Halle Berry on Jay Leno

Posted on October 23, 2012

We didn’t love this dress when we saw the pics of her walking out.

Halle Berry makes an appearance on ‘The Tonight Show with Jay Leno’ in an asymmetrical dress paired with Christian Louboutin shoes.

We thought it wasn’t doing much for her shape and the color wasn’t telegenic enough. A big ol’ missed opportunity, we sniffed dismissively. But Miss Berry’s been doing this for a good while, and sometimes a couple of queens need to recognize when a pro is being a pro, because …

…then she sat down.

Alrighty then. There you go. We still think the color’s not popping enough and she could’ve used some support, but there’s no question that this dress, on her, paired with those shoes, is a great sit-down choice. It’s riding pretty high, but the asymmetry in the skirt kind of helps maintain an illusion that she’s more covered than she is. She knows what she’s doing.

Don’t mind the color as it really puts the focus on her face, but I think it rides too high on the side for a the Leno crotch-cam.

    • AllisonAndStuff

This is totally unrelated, but I am about 75% of the way through Good Omens right now, and this tickled me pink. Way to go.

      • Anathema_Device

Thanks! And such a fun book. Love it to death.

  • Eva_baby

Sigh.  is it a bad thing that I have my magnifier glass out looking for any hint of cellulite on that thigh?  Or that I and wondering why her  46 year old tits are only sagging 1/3 of the distance that mine are?

    • http://twitter.com/stellaphone Stella Zawistowski

If that’s wrong, we can be wrong together.

    • http://twitter.com/janedonuts Jane Donuts

I’m only 36 and wondering the same thing.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100004380368415 Kelli Anderson Taylor

I see a little cellulite, without a magnifying glass.  She’s human!

      • kschwarting

I thought just the same thing!  A very genetically blessed and well-toned human, but human nonetheless.

  • Call me Bee

She always looks great, and this outfit is perfect for sitting on Jay’s couch.  Nailed it.

  • moppet

I respect your argument. But I…still don’t like it. And her eye makeup looks unusually harsh to me (may just be the pictures.)

She does look as good in that dress as anyone could, I’m sure.

    • Sobaika

She looks good, but I agree that there is a lot of eyeshadow happening.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Ginny-Ellsworth/534496198 Ginny Ellsworth

I thought her eye make up looked a little zombie to me too. But the skirt flap is long enough to cover the good china so there is that redeeming factor. What a beautiful woman.

      • dress_up_doll

I thought that her eyes looked a little weird to me. They look a bit sunken in. Not a good look.

      • ecallaw1977

I was trying to put my finger on it, but you nailed it–zombie!  I know what her makeup reminds me of–Michael Jackson in Thriller.  Crazy that it can remind me of that and I still think she looks stunning.

    • Le_Sigh

Agreed w/ too much eyeshadow – it makes her look tired.

      But damn, she looks good.

  • MoHub

Thanks for fixing the banner! You guys are right on top of things!

  • http://twitter.com/janedonuts Jane Donuts

It’s a little too Bam Bam and Pebbles for me, but yeah, she looks hot, as always.

    • Sobaika

Hah, wasn’t she in the Flinstones movie??

      • http://twitter.com/janedonuts Jane Donuts

Oh ha! I think she was!

      • MilaXX

yep. iirc the even worse sequel

      • NC_Meg

You beat me to it! I just posted that before I read all the comments.

        • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_2P2ANLRZ6YAVGONA36I2AQJYGI VicD

          Me too!

    • l_c_ann

When I saw this, my first thought was she should have worn her secretary dress from the Flintstones.

    • ballerinawithagun

That’s what my husband said right away. For a normal person she looked good, but Halle Barry is the most beautiful woman in the world. For her, it was horrible! She needs a bra. It was the expensive version of Monster’s Ball.

      • kimmeister

I think she’s wearing a bra, just not a sufficiently supportive one.

    • cyscokitty

My thought exactly! Add a few leopard spots and there you go. Flintstones Part Deux.

    • mountainFashionista

Halle Berry always elicits an “of course” from me.  She looks good enough (for being as amazingly gorgeous as she is), but her clothing choices tend to be so samey samey sexy sexy samey.

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/2LIE6ISFQUBIAO7OB6U5TAVXXQ Depot'er

Wow, I though the SAME thing- this looks looks right out of the Flintstones Movie…what IS that horrible fabric? and all that $$ and no bra? I agree with T’lo tho- this does ‘sit’ VERY nicely, but then you see the flopping boobs….sigh…

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_3JSTXMWWVZN2QNP2UEKJMTWD7U Isabel

She fades into the dress. Not good. Another color would have been better.

  • HomeOfficeGirl

Wow that is amazing how much better it looks “sitting”.

  • IMNAngryLiberal

Nope, still looks baggy when she is sittng down — the color makes her skin tone look muddy and her breasts need some support they ain’t getting in that outfit.

    • ballerinawithagun

Muddy! That was the descriptive adjective I needed. She needs a bra.

  • http://twitter.com/tangodiva Tanya Wade

Love the earrings, hair and stems. I would kill for legs that long. The dress? A little sackcloth.

Cloud Atlas is one of my favorite books. I hope they haven’t cocked it up TOO bad.

  • MilaXX

I don’t mind the color, but the boobs look awful. She does look better in the video though.

  • LLuL

Proof she could wear a potato sack and still look fantastic.

  • Mary229

I still don’t like it even when she’s sitting down.  It looks like a rumpled mess.  Beautiful woman.  But no.

  • http://www.facebook.com/bert.keeter Bert Keeter

Love dress n color. Could have worked w a little boob support n modern bling! Reminds me of Fabio’s amazing PR Finale!

  • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

LOVE THE SHOES!!!  Seriously, does this woman ever age?

  • l_c_ann

The shoes are really pretty, but the angle between her toes and the balls of her feet and her arch are approaching 90 degrees.  Le Ouch.

    • jabes

They do look too high–it looks in the still pix like she can’t walk properly.

  • http://profiles.google.com/scaponigro Sarah Caponigro

    HALLE BERRY

  • Susan Crawford

I would like to see the portrait up in Ms. Berry’s attic, wouldn’t you? She is GORGEOUS!

On the dress: well, I’m just so tired of asymmetrical hemlines, but I agree with T and Lo that when she sat down, the skirt exposed exactly the right amount of leg. Shoes? Major fabulosity! And if this dress were in, say, a glowing amber, or a deep rose – it would have been incredible. But Ms. Berry can pretty much do what she wants, because she is a Diva Suprema.

  • http://twitter.com/LianaBrooks Liana Brooks

It’s Halle Berry, she could wear a sack and look drop dead gorgeous.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_2P2ANLRZ6YAVGONA36I2AQJYGI VicD

      This IS a sack.

  • StellaZafella

This make-up, dress and hair looks a little like Ms B just – happily – rolled out of bed…I wish I could look this good in that situation.

And had that pair of shoes laying on the floor to put back on…!!!

  • nancylee61

I also think it comes up too high, and also, her boobs are saggy. I know, the world has tilted on its axis, but Halle Berry needs a bra – or a better bra.

Other than that, she is just gorgeous.

  • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

I’m sorry Ms. Berry, but immune though you are to the ravages of time, even you need a strapless bra with this dress. Everything else is fabulous though – you look like a cute little dust-pixie. And your earrings and shoes are SICK.
So despite poor a foundation (garment), you managed to stick the dismount. Kudos, lady.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_2CNDPMVO4W23R5TVC2QMTJ5BZE Heather

Like all of us over the age of, say, 14, girlfriend needs a bra. Not because anything is sagging, but because my mother taught me never to leave the house without the proper foundation garments. Plus, TV studios are freezing.

  • http://www.ellenciompi.com/ NurseEllen

Agree on the bra, agree on the unflattering color, agree that the shoes are KILLER and that Halle is gorgeous.  Don’t like the dress and I think if I can see what the yoga people call one’s “sitzbone” and the professionals call one’s “ischial process”, the dress is cut too high, even if you have flawless gams.  A little mystery never hurt anyone.

  • NC_Meg

It reminds me of her costume in The Flintstones movie. (Remember THAT?) Anyway, that’s not a compliment.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1476648069 Scott Cooper

Everything about this is wrong.  It looks like she threw a bathsheet around herself and slipped into her mother’s high heels.  And that make-up ages her a good ten years.  Horrifying.

  • Zippypie

This is a huge OUT, sitting, standing, however.  It’s an ugly color, her boobies need support and it rides WAAAAY too high into Lea Michele territory.  Halle, you’re gorgeous.  You don’t need to be selling yourself like this.

  • Cathy S

I still don’t like it. The bottom is better when she’s sitting down, sure. But the whole thing looks baggy and saggy and weird.

  • decormaven

The eye makeup is evocative of Kharis in “The Mummy’s Hand,” but this woman still looks great!

  • http://asskickingadviser.com/ Ass Kicking Adviser

No, no….I can’t. I hate the color, hate the way her boobs look in it, hate the shape – it looks cheap. And Halle Barry ain’t cheap so it pains me to say that.

  • librarygrrl64

    Sad boobs. :-(

  • afabulous50

Sorry – this just doesn’t do her any favors – I don’t care how much leg she flashes.

  • glennethph

Yay, she took time out from trying to destroy Gabriel Aubrey.  Cray cray and a half

  • julnyes

It looks better when she is seated, but not as good as she can look. Of course she has the genetic gift of that face and body, so even her slight missteps are minor.

  • EEKstl

Those shoes with that dress is genius.  And yes, that is the perfect “sit down for a chat in front of millions” choice.  I even like the color.

  • quiltrx

Something with a bit more color (I bet this would look great in a print) would be my preference, but she still looks great.

And those are IDEAL sit-down shoes!  You go girl.

  • http://twitter.com/carnivaltenten Ten Ten

    Luv hah!

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_2P2ANLRZ6YAVGONA36I2AQJYGI VicD

She was in The Flintstones, right?  I’m pretty sure she snuck this bedrock-colored sack out of costume.

  • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

sometimes your first impression is the best …i hate it.  looks like she is starring in some epic about a prehistoric tribe who live in mud pits.

  • Lisa Kramp

My first thought at the thumbnail was “Why is she wearing sackcloth?”

  • maggiemaybe

That dress has a kind of creepy Wilma Flintstone/bath towel vibe about it. Those shoes are to die for, though.

  • schadenfreudelicious

When the girls are closer to the elbows than the armpits it’s time to accept that the effects of gravity exist and support accordingly, even if your Halle Berry…

  • Teri Brinson

I like it less on second view. That makeup is awful, too-dark eyes cannot be pulled off after 35 no matter who you are, and the nude lip is just as tired as the nude hoof shoes T-Lo hate so much. Add in the lack of bust support and, ugh just no. She can look so much better!

  • S_Swift

You are so right. It looks way better when she is sitting. Standing- I’m getting a fashion-a-toga-out-of-the-drapes-for-a-frat-party kind of vibe.

  • Judy_J

Yes, it looks better sitting down, but I still don’t like it.  Something about the color, and it just seems sort of shapeless.  Even Wilma Flintstone’s one shoulder frock had more shape that this thing.

  • http://twitter.com/#!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

Again, Ms. Berry shows us she knows how it’s done.

  • Monabel

That taupe-y grey makes her skin look fabulous.

  • Trisha26

TLO, I’ve learned from you to say “Of course” when I see Lea Michele. But I’ve been saying it for years about HB.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_F73LIJ3SJGI5AJQMXMWXCKILHI Pamela

Her boobs look sad & it detracts from the whole look.

  • CassandraMortmain

I saw her on the show last night and she looked fierce. The stills don’t quite do her justice.  That said, a different color would have been more flattering and it’s definitely time to start wearing a good supportive bra.  Unless you’re sporting A cups, any 46 year old needs to wear a bra.

I’ve long thought that that the silly and entirely subjective “most beautiful woman in the world” designation is a toss-up between Halle and Angelina.  Are there any youngsters coming up that can challenge the queens?  I can’t think of any,

  • jw_ny

    Damn gravity!

I always thought Halle could wear a burlap sack and still look good.  Obviously not.  That dress is not her friend at all…color, fabric bunching all over, and mostly, the lack of support.

  • bitterk

The woman is fierce for 40+ but her boobs look a little low in this dress.  I don’t find it flattering on her at all.

  • formerlyAnon

You’re right, in that it’s better on the couch. I still don’t love. The loose wrinkliness (rippliness) in the top, bugs.

However, she is still the beautiful Ms. Halle Berry, & her in a dress I don’t love out shines most of us on our wildest-dreams-best day.

  • Lilak

I’m stunned . . . She looks almost every bit of her age here. A hot version of her age, but her age nonetheless.
    Never thought I’d see it.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_DJQMGJU7MZMBVLSD4GUTPJEPD4 murt

yes that’s what I thought too.

  • another_laura

Okay, so now we can see the magic of the photoshop because here she looks like an amazing 45-year old woman.

  • TieDye64

Yeah, I thought it was all fine EXCEPT the girls were needing some support. This made her boobs looks very, very sad.

  • Corsetmaker

She is in chronic need of a bra! They’re nearly at her waist!

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jessica-TallGirl-Freeman/1043623567 Jessica TallGirl Freeman

Look now, I have bigger boobs than Halle and my strapless never looks like that.  I guess it wouldn’t be so cute to yank it up on TV, but really girl, that is messing up this look big time. Sitting down, it definitely works, but standing up it is full on atrocious.

  • guest2visits

This was MUCH worse sitting down than walking; the edgy cut and drape was completely lost whan she sat. Just a Sad Sack.
And the color was not favoring her at all. It emphasized the heavily shaded, sunken and ashy quality that I feel her face has
had for quite some time; I have thought a new make-up style has been long overdue for Halle.
At least it wasn’t the usual short, tight, black dress.

  • oohsparkley!

It’s hard to make Halle look bad, but she tried and almost succeeded.

  • Rebecca Jay

I think the whole thing looks strained and pained, including her face and feet.  Just everything… dull and tired.

    Ugly dress, too.

  • http://vhanna26.typepad.com Vera

While the dress works way better as a sit down dress, and I love the shoes, I still think it’s unflattering.

  • B_C_J

It’s like looking at two different dresses. Walking out it is not very flattering and the hem line and length looks almost ugly.  Sitting, the dress gains a lot of pizzazz. However, some support at the bust line would have been a good thing and since the dress color is so low key, a brighter lip and maybe a beautiful gold cuff would have helped lift the look up.  The shoes are delicious.

  • ccm800

Sh e looks like an effing zombie.
