Girl, That’s Not Your Dress: Kristin Davis in Lanvin

Posted on October 15, 2012

Kristin, we love you, but once again we are forced to remind you…

Kristin Davis attends the amfAR’s Inspiration Gala in Hollywood, California in a Lanvin dress paired with Christian Louboutin sandals.

Christian Louboutin ‘Disconoeud Sandal

To be fair, it’s a gorgeous dress, but that full skirt she favors is not her friend anymore and the super-matchy shoes, while also gorgeous, just look silly to us. Look at that first picture and mentally erase the two wings on either side of her hands. Wouldn’t this look amazing if the skirt were more fitted? And she wasn’t wearing Barbie shoes?

  • Bridesmaid.

    • MzzPants

Doh!  You beat me to it.  Outdated bridesmaid at that.

    • e jerry powell

       You’re being kind.

    • Jessi03

Oh good, I thought it was just me!  Seriously bridesmaid.

  • It’s a pretty dress, but definitely UN-exciting and very bridesmaid-y.

  • How about also bringing up the hem a couple of inches?

    • Jessica Goldstein

My thought exactly. Either narrow the skirt or shorten it. If shorter, the fullness works.

  • What’s with that nail polish color and the cigarette burn on her foot?  Yikes!  At least she doesn’t have SJP’s hands.

  • For a woman who is beautiful and youthful, she sure does a lot of mutton-dressed-as-lamb. A lot of girls in my year wore something like this to their prom.

  • charlotte

I suggest a “Girl, That Could Be Your Dress” category.

  • Violina23

It’s not that exciting, but it doesn’t look bad at all. I wouldn’t mind looking like Charlotte York-Goldenblatt even in 2012. I don’t think simple/elegant/classy/feminine ever goes THAT our of style.

But yeah, even that being said, there is no excuse for the match shoes, unless she is in a bridal party

    • I ADORE the old style diamond bracelet.

      • Cathy S

I think the bracelet’s the best part.

  • She could pull it off with better styling- this kind of dress calls for an updo.

  • Ceur

Calling for a ‘if we were her gays’!

  • Judih1

She is in a style rut for sure. I guess since SATC were her best years, she wants to stay in that time warp. Even her hairstyle is the same. But not only is she is a style rut, but she is making hideous choices – those shoes are just awful, dress would look much better if it was fitted.

Maybe she should have Pat Field style her to give her a more current look

    • Pinup Ghoul

Agreed! She’s an incredibly beautiful woman who could probably work any other look. I’d actually love to see her try something really fierce and fitted. She needs some drama, no?

  • Patricia Gillett

    Total bridesmaid territory.

  • NCDFan

I’m not sure this is anybody’s dress. All those shiny bulky looking folds at the waist detract totally from the shape given by the full skirt.

  • I *SO* wanted this to be a floor-length sheath, preferably paired with an updo, and some killer earrings.  I like the shoes and the matchiness would not bother me if it were floor length.  But, as it is… are right again, that is NOT her dress.

  • Nope. You’re wrong.

  • OMG- I tried your suggestion to mentally erase the wings, and it was kind of stunning how fast it went from bridesmaid to vavoom in the mental image. Also, love the Shelly Obama shade of nail polish.

    • MissAmynae

it is a lovely pedicure in ugly shoes, haha!

  • demidaemon

I know TLo said this dress was beautiful, but I just can’t imagine it being anything but hideous.

  • RedRaven617

Lose the wings, shorten the dress, change the shoes and she’d look longer and leaner. Past the knee is not any woman’s friend.

    • PinkLemon

past the knee is my ONLY friend. for some of us it gives our legs shape where we need it.

  • Too shiny to look anything other than cheap and wrinkled under those lights. With that fabric, I think there is only so much you can do to class up this garment.

  • MintaHallWriter

Hate the dress. But I love the shoes–as long as they’re not so matchy-matchy that they look like bridesmaid’s shoes. And the bracelet is gorgeous.

    Really hate the dress.

  • Dot

I think I saw this dress at David’s Bridal, with a two-for deal on the dyed shoes to match.

  • Clueless_Jock

I’d love to see her in leather.

  • Laylalola

Entertainment Weekly recently had the original Melrose Place cast on its cover, which triggered a memory that she had been on it (she wasn’t on the cover) — as a … ghost or something. Evil. Evil evil evil. Coming up out of the swimming pool. And I had entirely forgotten how much she terrified me and I couldn’t even see her Charlotte character for the other character that I knew her as. And now she’s Charlotte, all the time, even in real life. I almost think I’m making this whole thing up.

  • For a Lanvin this dress looks oddly cheap.  The shape is terrible on her.  It seems as all the SATC girls are still dressing their characters.

    • PinkLemon

never would’ve guessed it was Lanvin. also, is she going to a wedding? SJP definitely still dresses a la Carrie, but i kind of love that..

  • hughman

If ever a dress could use a cardigan, this is the one.

  • RocknRollmom

I have come to the decision in my “old age” that the shiny material thing is just generally not good.  I don’t care if it is a Lanvin dress.  It looks cheap and poorly fitted.  And while I worship at the altar of Louboutin, those shoes are not helping her case.  And while I loved the greige color on Michelle at the convention, I have to say it looks hideous on her, particularly the hands.

  • My prom dress in 1987 looked a lot like that.

  • SapphoPoet

Has she done anything else since SATC? Guess I could look that up…

    • MilaXX

some bad made for tv movies.

  • What material is that dress made from? It’s ghastly.

And yes, that dress, in different fabric, with a fitted skirt, definitely would have put her into bombshell territory.

  • MilaXX

If that was a straight skirt I would be willing to forgive the  matchy shoes, however the other problem is the strapless top flattens her boobs. I don’t even think this is Charlotte’s dress, much less Kristin’s

  • She looks like a Bridesmaid.

  • crash1212

Only thing I like about this look is the bracelet. Everything else is a do-over. I don’t even like the dress much…with or without the two wings. Also…GET A HAIRCUT! OK…done.

  • The shiny material isn’t doing her any favors either.

  • PastryGoddess

I’ve got the flamethrower…now I just need those shoes

  • MichaelStrangeways

She shies away from fitted and short…girlfriend has a big booty and piano legs. I think Pat Field politely talks about Kristin’s “problem zones” in a DVD extra on one of the SATC dvds which helps explain why she’s always in full skirts.

  • The dress makes her look positively dumpy.

  • Always the bridesmaid…

  • mbelchic

I’m not crazy for the shoes, either-

  • quiltrx

I always feel so proud of myself when I come up with the same remark as T and Lo!  This time it was how pretty this would look without those extra hip-wings.

And those are DEFINITELY Barbie shoes!  That’s a great bracelet, though.

  • It’s just got “Minnie Mouse” written all over it!

  • Trisha26

So the dress is too young for her but it’s making her look old!

  • PeaceBang

Yes, the poor girl is in a terrible rut, and that’s a terrible dress (although with the “wings” blocked out, much better). The shoes are a crime. But worst of all is that Miss Davis is still giving total Charlotte poses on RC or whenever she’s photographed: that Charlotte York prissy, fluttery thing. I think that’s bizarre. SJP may still dress in Carrie-esque fashion, but her body language and carriage are her own, not her old character’s. Those shoes belong on Minnie Mouse.

  •  SO true…and she REALLY needs a hair intervention. If you’ve been wearing your hair exactly the same way for over 10 years, friends should step in.

  • Dagney

Good lord!   hemline hemline hemline! HEMLINE!  always with this one!  Please lord, give her a stylist who understands the concept of the hemline at or just above the knee!!!  And the shoes, I can’t even get started.  I mean, they are club shoes, and she is wearing them with an Audrey Hepburn-esque dress.  no.  just no.

  • alyce1213

She needs a damn haircut already.

  • Judy_S

At least you can pick out a few things that are wrong and imagine how it could look right. I think this is a huge improvement over some of her blushing- girlie looks in the past.  For her that IS a straight skirt.

  • EEKstl

    Yes and yes.

  • Yes and yes.

  • elemspbee

T’Lo, that’s a great trick–erase wings on either side of her hands. It would have been a terrific look.

  • She never dresses right for her body type.

  • ccm800

meh… Maybe she likes to take the stairs at less risk. I think she just goes for a come more comfort than the rest of the hollywood geisha
