Girl, That’s Not Your Dress: Christian Ricci

Posted on October 25, 2012

Oh, Christina, sweetie. No.

C’mere, you need a hug.

Christina Ricci attends the Harry Winston dinner for Jessica Chastain in New York City in head-to-toe Thakoon.

Thakoon Fall 2012 Collection/Model: Alex Yuryeva

Thakoon Fall 2012 Collection

You are just a tiny little slip of a thing and this dress requires more woman to fill it. You look like you got into mommy’s closet; the sluttier part of it. Box this up and send it off to some curvy gal who has a good collection of belts. You go find yourself something sassy and a little more form-fitting than this, mkay?

I don’t think that a turtleneck bathrobe dress looks good on anyone, curvy or not.

      • kimmeister

The materially really does look like terry cloth or fleece!

    • http://twitter.com/foodycatAlicia foodycatAlicia

I don’t want to see too much more of this bright pink! The only good thing about this dress is that it really draws attention to her lovely face.

      • Mary229

This color does seem to be everywhere right now, doesn’t it?   I like pink.  I think so many women (no matter your coloring) look lovely in pink.  But I legitimately can’t find one example where I think ::this:: shade of pink looks great on anyone.

        • theblondette

I was saying this the other day… This pink is really harsh and makes most women’s skin look like crap.

        • j_anson

As someone who just went shopping, that color IS everywhere. I love it when fashion decides to choose a really easy-to-wear, versatile color to put everywhere, don’t you?

        • Maddict

I wonder if women are wearing this color for Breast Cancer Awareness month of October?

      • DinaSews

I also thought her face looked beautiful here.

      • Sobaika

I love the pink, but just like every other trend, stylists seem to deploy it on every single celeb without acknowledging that the color won’t be flattering to everyone. The only one who looked really great in this color to me was Naya Rivera.

        • GSMSF

           Michele O.  swung it too.

    • http://twitter.com/Chucko78 Chuck Barthelme

I actually don’t hate it. If the waist were a tad higher I think it would work better, and if it were just a bit more well fitted…but then, I suppose that’s part of the point in the critique, it’s not either of those things. Nice that she didn’t go matchy with the shoes though.

    • VeryClaire

That color pink is no one’s friend. It’s always going to look cheap and Barbie.

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_3JSTXMWWVZN2QNP2UEKJMTWD7U Isabel

        Another Pepto Bismol Pink!

        Love the shoes!

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1405004314 Cindi Tracy Aune

This dress looks exactly like one I made in Home Ec 30 years ago. It was pretty bad then and it still is :O

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1147836750 Jessica Finkelberg Silver

Terrible choice. She’s unfortunate looking anyway, but this dress is for an Eva Mendes or something.

      • http://twitter.com/MajorBedhead MajorBedhead

Exactly what I was going to say. It looks like an 8th grade sewing project.

      • Mary229

I was under the impression (and perhaps I’m wrong) that insinuating that a woman is ugly was not the point of this forum.   Unfortunate looking?   Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.  I think she’s a lovely woman who chose the wrong dress.   Aren’t we supposed to talk about the styling and clothes here?   Maybe i’m incorrect but this comments crosses a line to me.

    • Patricia Gillett

Whoever said Pepto Pink was the new black was seriously disturbed.

    • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Poor thing looks lost in it; as though she was being slowly consumed. Great color for her, though.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1180174329 Elizabeth Phillips

      The color’s not bad.

    • jmorino08

I don’t think it would be that bad if it wasn’t 2 sizes too big!

      • 3boysful

That was exactly my thought, too.  I think the shoes were an inspired choice, even if they are almost exactly the same as on the runway.

    • Pants_are_a_must

I honestly don’t know if a curvier gal would make this dress work either. I do have to mention that everything above the neck is absolutely lovely.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jessica-TallGirl-Freeman/1043623567 Jessica TallGirl Freeman

I kinda like the color on her, but the dress is all wrong for her.

    • MarissaLG

I honestly don’t think the dress itself is that fantastic. The elastic-looking waist makes it look kinda cheap. For what it is, I think Christina looks pretty in it.

      • http://twitter.com/iJenmac Jennifer McClory

Yeah, the waist screams cheap to me too.

    • http://twitter.com/MaxineDance Maxine Horne

As Heidi would say “it looks a little home made no?”

    • Snailstsichr

She has killer legs. Someone get this lady a mini skirt! The shoes are fabulous; keep them!

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000905542323 Rhonda Shore

It looks like a beach cover-up.  Am sick of this color.

    • jilly_d

It prbably would have been fine if she’d gone a size down and lost the hideous neck brace.

    • Beardslee

Remember when she was a teenager in the movies? I think she is naturally curvy and if she lived and worked someplace that allowed her to eat, she would look great in this dress.

      • Mary229

Christina has been pretty honest over the years about her struggle with eating disorders which makes my heart go out to her. :(  I was actually thinking here that I miss the natural dark hair she used to sport when she was a teen.   I liked the dark hair/fair skin combo on her.  It was really lovely.   I hope she goes back to her natural hair down the road.

        • http://twitter.com/starrika Ali

Me too. Every time I see her, I think about how I miss her dark hair. The lighter hair just doesn’t suit her.

    • alyce1213

There’s too much hot pink around in general, and way too much on her.
      This is homemade fugly.

    • MaryanneGirl

      Oh…my…no.

    • http://www.ellenciompi.com/ NurseEllen

This would have been a little more passable if it had been shorter.  Why did she opt for knee length (unless that’s the only dress that Thakoon supplied)?  The proportions on the model look much better.  Plus I’d like to rip off that neck thingy and make it a sash that goes around the waist and hides the elastic.  On a good note, the shoes are wonderful, and the jewelry looks stunning.

      • ballerinawithagun

Agreed. Your suggestions are perfect. Elastic??? The sash at the waist would  be fabulous as she is one of those people who really needs to show that tiny waist and gorgeous gams.

Nurse Ellen, I love your tag!

        • http://www.ellenciompi.com/ NurseEllen

Got home at midnight after assisting on a big ol’ aneurysm repair surgery…..Frank Sinatra was cued up on my iPod.  Sure makes the night more bearable!

I bet there’s a story behind “ballerina with a gun”, too.

      • curiouserandcuriousest

I’d like to rip off the neck thing because it makes me strangely nervous – it’s like her dress is slowly strangling her. And yep, the elastic cheapens the whole look. Frankly, I’d pack up and start again. She’s gorgeous, and she can do better!

    • Mary229

You know, the tough part is that when a woman with curves wears a dress like this she immediately gets pegged as over the top or trying too hard.  Yet, I do agree that, in general, dresses that are cut like this belong on a more hourglass body.    Also, man…I am so over this Barbie pink.  I like pink.  I think pink is beautiful.   But this shade always looks so plastic on everyone.

    • lehen

      that is no one’s dress.

      • B_C_J

         Amen!!

    • eowyn_of_rohan

At least the shoes are pretty cute.

    • PastryGoddess

The sad part is that she does have bazoombas, but I don’t think anyone has enough to fill that outfit out

    • MilaXX

The dress looks to big for her as if it needs to be taken apart and  tailored down to her size. The color is great and she accessorized well, but the dress is just too baggy on her.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1476648069 Scott Cooper

It looks like a Butterick/home economics project.

    • mhleta

I agree this could have been taken down a size or two on her and the length brought up a bit, but I fear this dress on a busty woman would be a bit much. You’d get all kinds of side boob or worse, Xtina-bald-headed-hydrocephalic-twins boob.

    • nannypoo

That damn pink again. I hate it. The fabric looks like a knit, which is a big challenge for an 8th grader in home ec, so I salute her for that, but I can only give her a D+ based on fit and hideosity. And the hair? A big fat F.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_VZLU6YVO4BRTELTTH3GRAAMWZQ Dot

The hot pink paper bag is bad enough, but I never understand why she insists on styling her hair in such unflattering ways.

    • Noelle Haland

I like the color, but my god, that horrid elastic waist is dreadful, even on the model. YUCK.

    • ThaliaMenninger

It looks like an empty sack on the model, too. I don’t get what’s happening with all the hot pink/fuchsia on the red carpet lately. I hate that color. Sometimes it looks good on very pale brunettes of the Dita variety, but mostly it looks like Barbie.

Shoes are cool. Kinda Cruella de Ville.

    • http://www.facebook.com/bert.keeter Bert Keeter

She needs waist taken up..a little less fullnes over bust, and a tad shorter.Love color on her!

    • SignLadyB

Yeah, what’s up with the hot pink? I enjoy it in limited doses but it’s just been all over lately and often not flattering.

    • Janet B

Is an exposed elastic waist now fashionable?  I would think that it needs a belt.

Barbie Pink is best left to Barbie.

    • Anathema_Device

Way too big on her. Also, she needs a belt.

And one week of stars wearing hot pink, and I’m already over it. I keep getting a photo-negative image of this dress every time I look away from the screen.  Oooh, look, dark green Christina on my wall!

    • http://twitter.com/RockShrimp Willow

pretty sure if you took off that neck wrap, her head would fall off.

    • mmc2315

      Oh, I don’t think it’s THAT’S bad.  It’s fixable.

    • BigWhiteGrannyPanties

That material seems really heavy.  Can anyone tell what it is?

    • http://profiles.google.com/scaponigro Sarah Caponigro

The dress looks so cheap to me.

    • kschwarting

It may not be her dress, but that is her hair and makeup.  From the neck up, she looks lovely.

    • decormaven

I am more interested that Thakoon has a footwear line; he’s busy building his brand. Not to be insensitive to the plight, but I promise to make a donation to breast cancer research if someone will release stars from wearing Pepto pink on the RC.

    • http://www.facebook.com/vdunbarjones Valerie Dunbar Jones

      Her Thneed is strangling her.

    • forward_slash_PRS

I don’t hate the dress, kind of like the neck & bodice (or whatever it’s called — I don’t know much about clothes), but the hair, makeup, & shoes are excellent.

    • Trisha26

The fabric looks like a bath towel, and that neck collar makes it look as though her head were photoshopped on another body.

    • maggiemaybe

Is this anyone’s dress? That waistband is atrocious.

    • notanotherusernameforchrissake

to me, she is one of those folks who has to actively work to make her head look attached to her body (kelly rippa, nicole richie).  this totally accentuates her lollipop head syndrome.  eugh.

    • Imasewsure

How many versions of ugly pink dress are we going to see this year? Love the shoes

    • SapphoPoet

Wow, that’s three very pink outfits we’ve seen this week.

    • nankipoo

She’s gorgeous but she needs to be in a good movie soon.

    • http://twitter.com/lolacestmoi Veronika Kaufmann

I just wish she hadn’t had the stiff upper lip thing done. Sad. And yes. The dress is horrendous. On anybody. Somebody mentioned it looks like terry cloth: agree.

    • B_C_J

This is a beautiful young woman who is wearing a dress made out of pink burlap. It is the absolute worst choice of fabric for this silhouette. You need something softer and lighter weight-wise (think Marilyn Monroe in the iconic photograph where she is standing on the subway grate and her dress is blowing up). The fit is horrible too but then again the dress looks like a hideous sack on the model as well.  Throw it away.

    • snarkykitten

seems like if the body ain’t a size 0, 6′ amazon with no tits, stylists have no clue how to dress it

      • judybrowni

Looked like crap on the model, too.

But then again, she wasn’t curvy, either.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_VA5XLSF3QRELSC3MUFSXLP4EIE rebecca

It’s funny – when I saw this in the thumbnail I was thinking, “wait, she actually looks good in this!”  And then I clicked on the rest. Okay, the color isn’t the greatest on her but the rest of the dress is jus a saggy sad thing. And I hate the shoes with it.

    • jorinde

her head’s too large for that turtleneck.
her head’s too large for her body anyway.

    • Allison Woods

It’s not the runway model’s dress either.

    • Judy_J

That dress looks cheap, and the elasticized waistband just emphasizes the cheapness.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_F73LIJ3SJGI5AJQMXMWXCKILHI Pamela

      Looks like a beach coverup.

    • guest2visits

She’s pretty and the shoes are cute; the dress is kind of awful.

    • J. Preposterice

      i. want. those. shoes.

    • Judih1

This is what january jones should have had on the other day, instead of the horrid pink outfit she wore.

      Love the shoes

    • ccm800

this would be fine if it fit and didn’t have a waist line that looked like giant elasticized nonsense
