I really like this dress on the model, and would on Emily if I wasn’t seeing through the dress in her chest area.  That just makes it look cheap, and we know it isn’t.

    • ballerinawithagun

Agreed, makes it look very cheap.

  • MilaXX

i think this is a perfect comic con outfit. The only quibble is I wish there was a way the body could be more opaque. The part below the cut outs looks like she wore the wrong color underwear.

Nicely observed– that IS a perfect ComicCon dress! And I love her hair and makeup. I’d love to know what mascara that is!

      • Golfkat

I think she’s wearing false lashes.

        • MilaXX

           yeah those are lashes

  • kimmeister

I think that kind of shoulder treatment only works on those with very narrow shoulders.  Emmy is not one of those people.

    • Golfkat

Exactly what I’m thinking. It looks okay on the model, but too stretched out on Emmy. Would have looked better if it had just been on the bottom.

    The shoes are hideous.

    • TieDye64

      They are loathe-worthy.

Maybe a little bit Christmassy? And not a friend to flash photography. Aside from that I think she looks great.

    • MilaXX

I thought it was superhero red.

  • Lilithcat

It’s the perfect dress for a little girl to wear to a performance of “The Nutcracker”.

  • alyce1213

The model’s shoes are a riot!

  • theblondette

I think the dress is very pretty! It’s a shame the top seems so see-through – I’m assuming that’s the pale lining showing through? Design flaw!

  • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

It’s cute, and provides some visual interest, but I’m distracted at how transparent the dress seems to be (is it the lighting?). Otherwise, I think she looks great, though I would have suggested different shoes.

Yeah, the shoes are not good. I think the undergarment was wrong, and possibly the dress is stretched too thin on her, plus the lighting. It should not look so transparent. My problem is that it seems like a winter dress, and while I’m tired of people still dressing summer in the fall, this one looks like January or February, not October.

      • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

It is a touch “holiday” instead of “fall,” but that doesn’t bother me so much.

        • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_ZBFH32YG44LIIZYLSQPMBXMYCU Sarah

Didn’t mean holiday, just meant “cold weather” and not brisk. It’s a sweater dress in RED. That’s the kind of color you whip out when everything has been dead awhile, instead of now, when you’re still trying to celebrate the colors of the fall. And you put it with some nifty boots.

  • Sobaika

    Not her dress or look.

  • B_C_J

The bodice has a serious lining issue and that is a pretty basic design flaw.  Otherwise it’s a pretty dress on a pretty woman. I would also have like to have seen the curls in her hair less “done” however that is a minor quibble.

    • pop_top

I figured she was trying to echo the look of the model. The model looks pretty amazing in it.

  • Mike Owens

She looks like a gum drop.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Emily-Smith/12431153 Emily Smith

I think this must be one of those dresses that looks opaque until the flashbulbs hit it.  I have a sweater dress that’s black and kind of like that.  It’s opaque but in the wrong lighting you can see the outline of my bra.  needs a lining or a slip or something.

  • Zippypie

I agree with all the comments about the bodice of the dress but what’s really tragic to me are those SANDALS.  Beige sandals.  In October.  In New York City where it was about 40 degrees that day.  I was there at Comic Con.  Believe me, you didn’t want to have sandals on.  Especially beige ones.  Ew.

  • Deb_Lynn

hooray, so the whiteboard isn’t gone, just being posted in a different way. Cool! Glad you kept it, as i really enjoy ALL the content you provide. :D

  • LesYeuxHiboux

That is an outstanding dress for her, if a little Christmas-y, totally ruined by the way it looks to be stretching over a white foundation garment in the bodice. Hair looks good, face looks almost fine if not for the “lip stain on chapped lips” mouth. Earrings are simple but a good choice, the shoes are a disaster. Orthopedic open-toe ace bandages with a long-sleeved Christmas-y sweaterdress? What?

  • tereliz

I don’t really love this dress on her, it’s too stretched out across the chest.

And Beautiful Creatures? Wow, what a trainwreck. That trailer makes the movie look even worse than the book, despite Emma, Jeremy and Viola. Everyone’s accents are atrocious and distracting and the scene with the room spinning around looked like a cheap carnival effect. Not impressed.

  • kirkyo

    shame about the shoes choice.

Perfect for Comic-Con – has a Spider-Man-like flavor. However, as TLo did with their SDCC commentary, I must say – she should have gone all out – I’d have added a blue spider-shaped fascinator, a black spiderweb belt, and some sort of spidery stilettos (or she could have gone the other way and worn some Converse for the more practical superhero homage).
But yeah it works. That movie looks like a bad Twilight ripoff despite the excellent supporting cast. I am not sure how I feel about Emma Thompson’s attempt at a southern accent though.
And I know she likes her character roles (see also Nanny McPhee) but I want to see Emma Thompson as a lead in a witty, bantering romantic comedy like she did in Much Ado. Nobody throws shade like her.

  • l_c_ann

I just think of cats’ claws getting caught in the collar or skirt and pulling- with the best of intentions.
She does have a sweet look about her-which may not help her career.

  • http://TheDoseofReality.com/ The Dose of Reality

I think she looks almost WERQ worthy here. Red is beautiful on her and that dress is fantastic. Her hair and make up look fantastic and I don’t even mind the shoes. The only think keeping it from a true WERQ for me is the bodice. Is it shiny or am I seeing she shadow of her bra? Either way, it distracts.

  • LeifBallard

Cute dress but I think I would prefer the details of white cutouts either on the top or bottom not both.

  • PeaceBang

Thank you for explaining the white board!!

    • Jackie4g

Please advise – where is the White Board explained. I have always been curious as to what it is about. Thanks.

  • NCDFan

If they had lined the bodice with something other than white, I would really like this.

  • http://twitter.com/lenabena_ Elena

I think it’s cute. Red looks great on her.

  • Anathema_Device

That’s a damn cute dress. Don’t like the sheerness on the bodice, though. Makes it look cheap, which I know it isn’t.

  • butter nut

i want to like this, but theres something too clown-ish about the top.

  • Trisha26

Would have looked loads better without her undergarment showing under the lights. It looks “fun” on the model but on her a little drab – strange considering it’s RED!

  • formerlyAnon

It’s been said, but: cute dress on model. On her, it’s diminished mostly by the way it looks stretched too tight across the chest under the flash. Also, her less-long-legged proportions (or the stumpifying camera angle?) detract.

And she could have gone with a shoe in a color.

But all that sounds entirely negative and I don’t mean it to. It’s still a cute dress and it’s okay on her, just not great. I like the makeup.
