Demi Moore in Oscar de la Renta

Posted on October 19, 2012

Hi, Demi! Fantastic dress, girl!

Demi Moore attends the GEMS Girls Like Us Benefit Galain NYC in an Oscar de la Renta dress paired with a Judith Leiber bag, Neil Lane jewelry, and Jimmy Choo shoes.

Oscar de la Renta Fall 2012 Collection/Model: Melissa Tammerijn

Oscar de la Renta Embellished Tulle-overlay Silk Dress

It’s got just enough sparkle and interest to really pop in pictures! And it fits you fabulously! We think the shoes are kinda boring, but you did okay on the clutch. Sure, it looks like a makeup case, but you really don’t want anything fighting with that dress, so a simple pop of red works just fine for us.

Let’s see what else? Oh, yes.

YOUR HAIR LOOKS RIDICULOUS.

We’ve seen plenty of cocker spaniel hair in our time as red carpet commenters, but that is the cocker-spaniel-i-est cocker spaniel hair we’ve ever seen. That’s “Best In Breed at the Winchester dog show” cocker spaniel hair. Forget extensions; it looks like she clipped two entire wigs to the side of her head.

omg i saw this pic and the first thing i thought was HAIR. PLEASE THE HAIR.

      • DeborahJozayt

I just don’t get why gals need to showcase their hair like that. It hides your face and your outfit. It’s like she’s being smothered. It’s not like if it was behind her shoulders that we would forget it’s there.

        • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Besides making one look like some play doll a pre teen girl might pick up and hack the locks off of.

          • librarygrrl64

It’s like my Mia doll when I was a kid. The one where you pushed a button in her back and her hair “grew.”

        • A B

          I blame Kate Middleton!

          • mountainFashionista

             I blame Kim Kardashian!

            • http://CallMeJane.com/ CallMeJane

What I love about the Kim K hair is how she always places it framing her boobs.  In my house we call it “parenthesis hair”.

            • http://twitter.com/pointlesswords jayme

Ew, as if we young minions take our style cues from Kim Kardashian!

    • Janet B

The cocker spaniel could use a bit of grooming.

    • blogless

Yeah, the hair looks like an attempt to still look young and sexy but instead it takes away from the whole look. Gorgeous dress and the fit and color are so flattering to her.

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_3JSTXMWWVZN2QNP2UEKJMTWD7U Isabel

        Time to cut your hair.

        • http://www.facebook.com/people/Mary-Stone/100001328135240 Mary Stone

Gonna go postal on this. Every time I see the automatic knee-jerk “cut-your-hair” response to poorly styled long hair, I seriously want to get something sharp and use it, but not scissors, and not to cut hair.  All this needed was to be STYLED.  Perhaps she didn’t have a chance to check her look before doing the step-and-repeat?    It’s glossy, healthy long hair, this dress is so interesting, so focus pulling, it needed a NEAT, non-pinhead ‘do to balance it out.

I am north of 50, and I still have all of my hip-length auburn hair thankyouverymuch, and I do not need to be told that a ladystar north of 50 has to adopt a bog-standard ‘matron helmet hair’ shorter ‘do, when all she needs is a different style. That being said, Demi moore in short hair (like she wore in Ghost) would still be all kinds of fierce.

          • MilaXX

it’s a weave and that;s what makes it ridiculous. Much like when younger lady celeb have similar cocker spaniel weaves.

          • Onika K Morris-Alleyne

I’ll say I don’t just think women over 50 should cut their hair, I think pretty much everybody’s hair is too long and should be cut. But then, I think long hair tends to detract from, not add to, a woman’s look.

        • http://phantomminuet.blogspot.com/ MinAgain

I agree.  Cut your hair, Demi.

          • http://twitter.com/Alloyjane Alloy Jane

It isn’t her hair.  She’s borrowing it.

      • la_lala

Can you imagine how gorgeous she would look with a slightly-past-chin-length asymmetrical bob? It’d have to be done just right since she has a strong jawline, but I think it would make her look younger in an “I’m 50 and fucking fabulous” way rather than a “Can you believe this is my daughter? We totally look like sisters, right???” way.

    • Anathema_Device

Hell, it looks like the extensions are clipped to the shoulders of her dress!!

It is a gorgeous dress, and it looks amazing on her.

      • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

It really is an amazing looking garment, and suits her perfectly.  It just makes the misstep with the hair all the more egregious.

    • Rand Ortega

Did she just get out of a convertible?
Run a comb through– you’re getting your picture taken, fer Christ’s sake!

    • eowyn_of_rohan

That dress would have looked so much better if the horse tails weren’t obscuring the top half.  So much interesting beading and patterns, lost under a sea of synthetic tresses and never to be seen again.

      • Lilak

You’ve got it … That’s the point to make about the hair.

A bedraggled ‘do is never a good idea, of course, but the important thing here is that all that long hair obscures – even worse, fights with – a beautiful, flattering dress.  Had the hair been right, her look would’ve been a WERQ instead of something that, from the tone of a lot of the comments, makes us feel sorry for her.

    • HomeOfficeGirl

Oh guys, I don’t know…I can’t hate on Demi, even if just for her hair.  She looks too fantastic.  The dress is perfect.  (She’s had all that hair for a while, so it might be hers?)  Unfortunately, if what we read is true, all her ageless, endless beauty doesn’t seem to help her one bit.  I hope she finds some peace and hapiness.

      • GorgeousThings

She looks awfully sad here, doesn’t she?

      • MilaXX

she has long hair, but she’s got extensions added to that.

    • LadyCelia

Killer dress.  And one that could work on multiple body types.

    • alyce1213

The dress is so great on her, I don’t even mind the hair.  In spite of all the tsouris she’s going through, she looks pretty good and manages a smile.  I wish her well.

      • DCSheehan

I had the same reaction. That dress is stunning on her and she looks fab. Onwards and upwards, Demi.

    • Sobaika

Long hair really suits her, and she seems to want to play up how young she looks, so I get it. I’m a fellow long hair obsessed myself.

But this is a bit much. A whole lotta much actually. She could use some layers and needs to be told that hair doesn’t have to go past one’s nips. It just looks weighed down and weird.

      • alyce1213

I think she looks equally good in long and short hair — great facial bones and a long, elegant neck.  This particular hair screams “See, I look so young.”  She sure could use a great new cut and a revamp/update of her look.
        She’s turning 50 and facing a painful divorce — it’s a good time for a change.

        • MilaXX

Just my humble opinion but she needs to pull the gun on that marriage and be done with it. There is no reason as far as I can see why they haven’t finalized the divorce yet.

          • formerlyAnon

I think everything about that marriage, including the divorce, falls into the “from the outside you never really know what’s going on between two people” category in EXTREME SPADES.

I mean, I know we always speculate on celeb relationships based on extremely unreliable gossip, observation from a distance of heavily stage-manged events, and opinions about character that are similarly at least partially artificially constructed. But there’s been so much that’s atypical mixed in with the extremely stereotypical there, that I would believe almost anything.

    • DylanCurtis

Sadly my thought when looking at the pictures was “I can’t wait til my hair gets that long!” :(

    • http://profiles.google.com/gillianholroyd gillian holroyd

I hate the spaniel hair big time but it’s not bothering me here, something to do with the volume above her shoulders. But enough with the hair, that dress is STUNNING.

    • MilaXX

I can never hear “cocker spaniel hair” or “best in breed “without thinking of the movie Best in Show, which then makes me think of “2 left feet” and giggling like a school girl.
That said. she looks better than she has in months. Now settle the divorce and move on. Even better, I hope you find a middle aged hottie or silver fox like a Richard Gere type.

      • http://www.tomandlorenzo.com/ Tom and Lorenzo

She should go land herself a billionaire, Salma-style.

        • AnaRoW

You mean a dowdy-looking dude who got another woman pregnant while “on a break.”

I think she needs to learn to be alone for a while.  Unless I’m mistaken, this is the first time in a while she hasn’t been in a relationship. All the time I’ve known about her she’s either been married, in a long-term relationship, or engaged to be married. Or being a stay-at-home mom.

          • http://www.tomandlorenzo.com/ Tom and Lorenzo

No, we mean a dude with a billion dollars.

          • MilaXX

She was single for a bit after Bruce. Why does that not count because her children were younger?

            • formerlyAnon

Because her tabloid reputation is so skewed toward “needy & overly dependent on the appearance of youth & male attention” that combined with the real amount of energy younger kids at home can demand, everybody tends to discount that period as representing any real personal strength. [In my entirely uninformed by actual verifiable facts opinion, that is!]

      • mountainFashionista

I laugh until I cry EVERY TIME I watch that scene… and the camera pans down to his feet…

        :::wipes tears from eyes:::

      • ballerinawithagun

Great movie, one of my favorites!

    • BrooklynBomber

I can’t believe I’m gonna say this, but  I think she looks too scrawny for that dress.

    • jw_ny

haha…I knew the jab about her hair was coming!  Still funny when I finally got to that part…Ridiculous!   :D

    • pax540

For a second I thought she was Katie Holmes in the first picture, only with wide open eyes, not semi droopy eyes. Also, what is with the celebuneed to have mermaid length hair?? It’s not like you need hair that long to cover up your tatas, so what gives?

    • LauraWL

Love it head to toe. But I am in the camp that “mature” women look great with longer hair. Maybe its a West Coast/hippy-influence thing.

    • Imasewsure

“Best in Show”… hilarious… great dress though on both the model and “who’s-a-good-girl…you’re a good girl… now role over” Demi!!

    • TieDye64

      Fab dress. CUT YOUR HAIR.

    • http://twitter.com/#!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

What a waste of a gorgeous dress.  What’s the point of going out in a de la Renta if you’re going to hide half of it behind a wall of hair?  It makes me hot and itchy just looking at it.

Nice try, Demi but have your people drop the dress off at my place. I’ll make sure it gets the attention it deserves.

    • PrunellaV

      Her face looks good, though.

    • Trisha26

Fabulous. And she’s 49! Her hair looks effing amazing! (At least she doesn’t have bangs or booms.)

    • Contralto

the hair is desperate and tragic.  The dress is fantastic but would be more flattering just a bit shorter.

    • PeaceBang

Gosh, that’s a terrific dress for her. I’m going to pretend she’s wearing a chic updo, because Demi needs my love and compassion. And I need her shoes.

    • http://twitter.com/Blythington_III Blythe Irish

Isn’t about time she just did something new with her hair anyway?

    • tallgirl1204

I like the dress so much, and it is so both age-appropriate and stunning that I didn’t notice the hair.  I trust TLo’s judgment that it’s extensions;  I think perhaps it is time to back off the very very dark color and long-long length.  Long hair is long at any length past the shoulder, so it’s really unnecessary.  And the relentlessly dark color looks od, unless it’s natural, but that is a little hard to imagine.  (of course, having her body and face at her age is also hard to imagine, so I find myself confused by her anyway.)

      • PinkLemon

         yeah it’s waaaaaaay too long

    • Khaleesi1031

I think she would prefer cascading locks of glory

    • afabulous50

You know – I have two Cocker Spaniels that I love dearly.  There is nothing wrong with Cocker Spaniel hair….on a Cocker Spaniel, that is.  On celebs – no.

    • Zippypie

The hem should be just above the knee and the dress would be perfect.  While I appreciate the waves to her hair vs. the stick straight awful look she’s had for years, this is too much messy, not enough chic.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=603005248 Jeff Warhurst

I love the dress, but she’s too old for Pocahontas hair.

    • understateddiva

If your hair makes you look like a Real Housewife, it’s too long.

    • nannypoo

How old is this woman by now? She looks great except for the shitty hair, which she should have gotten rid of 20 years ago.

      • charlotte

Uhm, she did get rid of it at one point…

        • nannypoo

Oh, yeah. I guess shaved isn’t the look I would recommend for her.

          • http://twitter.com/Alloyjane Alloy Jane

Are you crazy?  She was HOT bald.  Just goes to show how beautiful her face was before she botox’d the crap out of it.  Plastic surgery ladies make me sad.

            • nannypoo

I guess we can have different opinions without one of us being crazy. We can also differ without being rude.

    • MissAmynae

She’s gone from Cocker Spaniel to Afghan Hound!

She looks lovely with hair of any length, and if this were her real locks, I’d be praising them. But…oh honey no, go up to your collarbone. Would be a great length for her, and still have a youthful “Gee your hair smells terrific” vibe.

    • Golfkat

Ooff. Nothing makes you look sad and old like trying to look young when you’re not. The dress is perfection but the rest is a mess!

    • decormaven

Gorgeous dress- wish it had been shot in a more well-lit area so the jeweled tones could sparkle. I’m not a fan of the clutch as a general rule- stars grip them so tightly in the photo (nerves?) that the hands look tortured. It must be a true art (or a lot of tranquilizers) to appear composed in the midst of photo flashes and general commotion, though.

    • ballerinawithagun

Ha ha! 2 wigs are better than one! Stunning dress though.

    • http://asskickingadviser.com/ Ass Kicking Adviser

Weeping….weeping…it’s covering her beautiful dress. Enough already with the hair sweety.

    • cleep1000

That’s the best she’s looked in a long time. She’s gained a little weight and it makes all the difference.

    • enchanted216

That dress is GORG!!!!!  I want!

    • formerlyAnon

The dress is brilliant.  *I* think her hair could be quite a bit shorter and look better. I also think she needs something sleeker & more elegant, here, whether it’s long or short.

But, she’s invested a ton of thought, planning, effort, money and skill into being able to look like this at 49, and if she’s convinced that hair is what she wants, it’s what she’s gonna wear. I liked her hair short, best.

    • littlemac8

      Westminster, boys!

    • oohsparkley!

She looks great. I seriously didn’t even notice the extra-long hair the first time through.  I thought her face looked great and the dress was classy and flattering.

    • kalisa

I am SO OVER cocker spaniel hair that I just went and gave myself Lena Dunham’s hair cut.
