Cover Girl: Jennifer Lawrence for Vogue UK

Posted on October 05, 2012

After that unfortunate (to our eyes) W Magazine editorial, Miss Jennifer has been sent back to the pretty-girl styling that suits her so well:

‘The Hunger Games’ star Jennifer Lawrence covers the November 2012 issue of Vogue UK magazine photographed by Alasdair McLellan and styled by Francesca Burns.

Dolce & Gabbana Fall 2012 Collection/Model: Katryn Kruger

She looks fabulous. And this cover provides another handy illustration that what walks down a runway might look totally unwearable, but once you put it in the hands of a stylist and on the body of the right woman, it looks gorgeous. Say what you will about Dolce & Gabbana, their pieces always wind up on magazine covers because they’re highly editorial while also being conventionally beautiful.

Also, I think you guys linked to the wrong editorial.

    • iheartbuffy

No… that’s just a really scary JL editorial in which she looks nothing like herself and fails to work the lens and the high fashion

      • Tadiana

It may be Jennifer in that W editorial, but it’s still just wrong.

  • alyce1213

Lovely. Was this shot before she drastically darkened her hair, or has she regained her senses and gone back to blonde?
So glad to see her this way. Dark blonde suits her eyes and coloring much better.

    • jennyv

I think the dark hair is for her role as Katniss. I like her better as a blonde too though. :)

      • MilaXX

Yep they are filming Catching Fire now.

“… Say what you will about Dolce & Gabbana, their pieces always wind up on magazine covers because they’re highly editorial while also being conventionally beautiful….”

Yes, once the granny panties are gone and the dress is lined.  😉

    • Tom and Lorenzo

That’s kind of the point we were trying to make. Runway styling has nothing to do with real-world or even editorial styling.

      • mmc2315

Oh yeah!  It’s evident when you post, for example, a RC look & include the original runway look.  It’s always interesting to see the translation.

      • foodycatAlicia

Absolutely – the dress is SO much better with a slip under it.

    • Celandine1

Other designers would have sent that model out without any underwear or maybe a thong so I appreciate that Dolce & Gabbana gave her something to wear under the dress. Lined or with an under dress this is stunning. We have seen many examples from other designers where the dresses don’t look good lined.

Really pretty. I’ve been kind of over Vogue lately and thinking of giving up my subscription, but now I can’t wait to get this one so I can find out what that lipstick is.

    • tereliz

Whatever it is, it’s Lancome! I love it too.

      • Heather

I love her eye makeup AND lipstick. Anyone know the colors? J and I have similar coloring and I’m tempted to splurge on some new fall colors!!

  • ghopping

    wrong link? but gorgeous face.

  • Sobaika

    Not loving her hair.

    • Purple Fish

Agreed. The ends look dry and I don’t like the way they parted her bangs. It ages her.

    • YAELS

I agree. I don’t know why she parts her hair in the middle like that. I think she would look so much better with a side part, or side swept bangs. Something about that hairstyle is making her look older and less pretty than she is.

      • Sobaika

For me it’s just the bangs. They’re too short to be parted while having them on her forehead (as bangs generally should be) is not suited to her face shape. Blech.

        • PinkLemon

They look a bit ‘high school’ or something…her hair rarely looks good.

  • lilibetp

The orange lipstick isn’t quite right…

  • Tracy Walker

I hate her winged bangs. Other than that, she’s quite smashing.

    • pax540

I second the winged bangs hate. TLo, can you come up with some clever witticism to describe them? They’re abhorrent. Also, I saw pictures/interviews of her from a few years ago where she had a side part and it looked lovely! She should go back to that.

        • Sobaika

I hear Wang and think of something completely different!

          …. Alexander Wang, of course.

  • DaringMiss

I have to giggle at the lower right headline about how to cut your own hair.

Like any Vogue reader would dream of cutting their own hair (even us poor ones!)

    • formerlyAnon

Even less likely: that anyone working for Vogue would believe one could cut one’s own hair satisfactorily.

  • pugluv

I agree about the bangs…but she really is a beautiful young lady and unlike her contemporary KStew, this girl can act!!!

  • Alisa Rivera

This shot makes her look a lot like Rosie Whatshername-Whatshername (the one TLo always gushes over).

    • littlemac8

I thought that is who it was at first glance – that Rosie lady!

  • korilian

Her face looks photoshopped into submission.

  • mjude

    she looks great

  • Andrea B

Love the makeup… that shade of lipstick is subtle and perfect on her :)

  • Bozhi

Who knew?  Christopher made a baby version of Dolce and Gabbana.  Just kidding, this is beautiful.

  • MilaXX

It appears that the version she is wearing on the cover is lined. I think this is a great cover, even the hair looks good & I often have problems with her hair.

  • AngelaGreen

Ugh.  Girlfriend is so pretty I can’t even.

  • PeaceBang

I actually don’t like the dress or her hair. Both look somehow dry and lifeless. But she’s a smashing kid and becoming my new favorite.

  • Vera

    My girl crush looking fabulous!

  • Pants_are_a_must

90s hair, but is she giving FACE or what.

  • Qitkat

Not that Sonjia’s came anywhere close, but here is the reason super sheer ultra-fine netting is so much better a choice than tan skating costume illusion. Most of the time.

  • Contralto

I think I just found my daughter’s wedding dress.  Only lined, of course.  Gawjuss.

    • Lisa

Yaay! Congrats to you and to your daughter!

  • holdmewhileimnaked

i cant believe i’m saying this but it looks so much better on that cover worn w/ proper undergarments.

then again, i am gonna add that the reason is that the line is no longer being crudely & stupidly broken up by the stretchy black business beneath.

  • Lisa

Oh, that is stunning.  She looks amazing, just really beautiful!

  • guest2visits

    A completely different look for this dress with a lining (it doesn’t look like a frawzy old curtain over a bathing suit);
       – beautiful on her.

  • mhleta

Her beauty is so mercurial! That lip color is incredible with her eye color. This dress does make a great cover. It looks like a pen and ink drawing.

  • quiltrx

That is a GREAT dress!  I’ve always disliked this “looking back around the corner” pose, but I’ll let that go for now.

  • n a

i think she looks better as a brunette.  random- but wanted to share.

  • librarygrrl64

Still loving this D&G collection. :-)
