Christina Hendricks in Hollywood

Posted on October 24, 2012

Christina seems very pleased with herself.

‘Mad Men’ star Christina Hendricks and her husband Geoffrey Arend at The Pikey in Hollywood, California.

Perhaps because she recycled a dress that we didn’t hate the first time she wore it. Oh, we had quibbles – and still do – but Miss Lady obviously feels like a million bucks right now, so who are we to criticize? You do it. And if you had an opinion on it when she wore it last February, anything about this current look get you to change your mind?

      … is … she pregnant?

      • http://twitter.com/Kathy_Marlow aka Darth Mommy

I don’t like to jump on the bump watch bandwagon..but she sure is doing a heckuva job hiding with that huge purse.

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jessica-TallGirl-Freeman/1043623567 Jessica TallGirl Freeman

I thought this in the last TLo post on her. I’m certainly not body snarking, but her mid section has changed. And now with the deployment of this excessively large clutch, one can only come to this conclusion.

      • Golfkat

Exactly my thoughts! And she looks super happy, which makes her look AMAZING, so maybe that’s what her smile is about! Aww, I hope it is :D I mean, if that’s not a strategically placed bag, I don’t know what is.

      • BazoDee

        I had the same thought!

      • BayTampaBay

        My thoughts exactly!

      • Sweetpea176

I had the same thought, too, but it was the expression on her face in the third picture down that made me think it.

    • Stefanos Mantyla

Celebrities are allowed to recycle clothes? Since when?

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jessica-TallGirl-Freeman/1043623567 Jessica TallGirl Freeman

Since Cathy Cambrige made it all the rage.

    • http://twitter.com/stellaphone Stella Zawistowski

Is it just me, or does the sleeve attach at a really odd place? It looks like her arm is attached to her breast, doesn’t it?

But yeah, she’s got that “we just did it in the car” face, which takes this look from “whatevs, it’s fine” to “HELL YEAH AWESOME.”

      • Jessi03

That was my exact thought!  “Sex in the limo?”

      • http://twitter.com/Chucko78 Chuck Barthelme

Thought the same thing. Especially in that shot.

    • http://profiles.google.com/rosatcollege Ros Clarke

If ‘wearing a dress more than once’ counts as ‘recycling’, I may be the greenest person on the planet.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1396777506 Christin Pardy-Nosenchuk

Alexis Carrington called, and wants her dress back.

      • akprincess72

        Word.

      • BigWhiteGrannyPanties

oh i didn’t see this and mentioned Dallas in my comment.  we are thinking alike.

    • http://heartprintandstyle.blogspot.com Vivi N

I’m am definitely here for celebrities recycling their clothes. They are human, afterall. What I’m not here for is for celebrities recycling their looks over…and over…and over again.

      • tereliz

Hair is the worst, i.e. SJP, GOOP. They have access to ridiculously talented hairdressers and yet so many stars stay in a hairstyle rut. But I guess they like to stick with what they think works.

    • Sobaika

It looks a bit better than last time, better hair and no necklace.

I’ll never be okay with whatever’s going on with those shoulders.

      • Jacqueline Wessel

Yeah, it looks like the sleeves are too tight in the upper arm area, causing the shoulder to bump up.

        • Sobaika

They might be too tight, but I think the shoulders are structured that way.

        • http://profile.yahoo.com/BJTY6KY7LOR7MDOD6QCZUC3VVI Donna Tabor

Her arms have gotten larger, it seems, and the armscye of the dress is too small to accommodate them.

She doesn’t need that kind of puffy sleeve cap; there’s enough going on with the print, and with her body, that she should stick to very simple styles, in my opinion, and just let that beautiful smile take center stage.

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Lucía-Gavello/1253586868 Lucía Gavello

All that coverage up top and the big shoulders, I don’t know, she looks… upholstered?

    • DaveUWSNYC

Maybe she’s excited about the arm candy?

      • YoungSally

Only if she has some fetish about Jerry Seinfeld as an accountant.

        • glennethph

Isn’t that her husband or longtime bf?

          • YoungSally

It’s her husband….still looks like Seinfeld as accountant.

    • Anathema_Device

Nope, still don’t like it on her. The high neck and puffy shoulders are not good on her.

      • raininmai

I have to agree. And as lovely as the dress color is, I don’t think it works for her at all.

    • charlotte

The top comment from the first time she wore it was “It’s like a roll of wrapping paper had sex with a tablecloth, and that dress was the result”, and I’m still totally with the person who wrote it.
Nevertheless this is better than January’s pink extravaganza.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jessica-TallGirl-Freeman/1043623567 Jessica TallGirl Freeman

You asked the bitter kittens if they have another opinion of the same dress?  You know us so well TLo. I hate the shoulders. But damn, she needs to get back to color instead of BLACK. It looks so much better on her.

    • twocee

Color good.  Puffy sleeves bad.  Designer trapper keeper purse even worse.

      • ShivaDiva

Ha!  Beat me by seconds!  Great minds…

    • ShivaDiva

Is she carrying a Trapper Keeper?

    • myristica_fragrans

i don’t like the little puff shoulders on the dress. the clutch needs to be smaller, and her shoes should’ve been open-toed and higher.

      • MilaXX

I think larger clutches are coming back in style. They’ve been getting increasingly larger on the RC.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_VZLU6YVO4BRTELTTH3GRAAMWZQ Dot

I think she looks happy and lovely.

    • StellaZafella

I get the impression that if the whole dress was YANKED down by the bottom hem, it would all drop into place (neckline lower and shoulder seams situated on the shoulder cap) instead of looking like it’s been but back on backwards and in the dark!

    • Tamara Hogan

Love her in a shot of color, but she looks uncomfortable about the neck and shoulder.

    • PinkLemon

i’ve decided she’s never been able to rock hair-down. srsly tho, it’s never looked good down, ever. but when it’s up? it’s always sooo much more impactful.

    • MilaXX

I like this. My only quibble is I wish it was a scoop neck instead of such a high neckline. Otherwise this is a good look. Even the hubs looks pretty decent and he usually looks schlumpy to me.

      • Mary229

Yes.  I hate high necklines periods on women with huge breasts.  As a large chested woman myself, I find them to be my worst enemy.  I always feel heavier and less proportioned in a high neckline.  A slight V or a Scoop neck is always more flattering.

    • therealkuri

I’m not a fan of that dress. I might like it better if the shoulders and armholes weren’t so awkward looking. Also, Mr. Arend’s trousers are too big for him, IMHO. Dragging at the bottom and sitting really strange at the waist.

    • http://twitter.com/Nancer Nancer

Ok, silly comment time – why is she holding the purse in front of her like that? Is she trying to hide behind it for some reason, or is she just making sure that the paps get a good photo for product placement purposes? Other than that, she looks nice.

    • http://twitter.com/MajorBedhead MajorBedhead

Yeah, there’s definitely something off with the fit thru the bust and those puffy shoulders are awful. The color looks great on her, but it’s a bit too shiny-poofy-80s for me.

She sure does look like the cat that ate the canary, doesn’t she?

    • mjude

is she really that busty or is it because i am so used to seeing flat chested models?

      • http://www.flickr.com/photos/21151157@N00/ rawrgrowlrawr

She’s really that busty. Each breast deserves its own zip code.

    • http://twitter.com/Alyssa_T_Robot Alyssa T. Robot

am i the only person that thinks she looks a wee bit sloshed…?

    • Judy_S

Hmm… I see there are maternal glow/bump speculations. I was noticing that there seems to be a little stress at the armhole that maybe wasn’t there in February? Or was it but just not visible from the pose?
It is a wonderful dress for her.

    • snarkykitten

maybe she’s smirking like that because she knows she looks better than her costars in their most recent appearances?

    • Violina23

More good than bad = win

    • Beardslee

I am distracted by that beautiful tweed her husband is wearing.

    • Judy_J

The way she’s holding her bag in front of her belly and the “I know something you don’t” smirk makes me think she’s hiding a baby bump.  In any case, I like the colors of this dress, and it’s fine on her.

    • BazoDee

Strategic placing of clutch + glowing = pregnancy wonderings.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Maya-KC/537771651 Maya KC

That color combo will never not look Barney to me.

    • Imasewsure

The colors are gorgeous… the dress is hiddy but she looks so happy… hubby looks nerdy-cute too

    • oatmealpie

The dress looks fine, but I prefer her with shorter hair.

    • tereliz

I think she looks cute in this dress, but (segway) I still can’t believe Joan effing Holloway married “College Boy Number 3″ from Super Trooper. He could win an Oscar for a biopic where he plays a young Netanyahu and I’d STILL think of him licking the safety window in the cruiser and saying “The snozzberries taste like snozzberries.” Ah, to be young and desperate in LA.

    • Mary229

I don’t love the dress but I find it hard to dislike Christina Hendricks in anything she wears.  I find her too endearing.  So I’m always more forgiving of anything she wears.

    • kimmeister

      Great colors, ugly print.

      • roadtrip1000

Agree and that giant flower on her bust doesn’t help any.

    • PrunellaV

Colors of the Eighties? Too soon for me.

    • msdamselfly

      She looks better than usual

    • j_anson

Those shoulders are NOT her friend.

    • HomeOfficeGirl

      UGH!

    • evahansman

I’m glad I’m not the only who thought the giant envelop was hiding a bump.  That dress is a terrible pattern and doesn’t look like it fits at ALL.  The dress looks bloated, which is odd because she doesn’t.  And ca I recommend a deep conditioning treatment for her hair which looks palm desert dry.

    • http://twitter.com/ajhan Angie J. Han

Proof that attitude is everything. The dress itself isn’t great (blah those shoulders) but she looks so happy and comfortable in it that I’m sold. Also, love Arend’s suit, though it looks a bit baggy on him. It’s sweet that she looks so thrilled to be with him!

    • NCDFan

Same as the first time, fix the shoulders! There are evidently shoulder pads and a fabric pouf at the top of the sleeve which narrows too quickly to fit the top of her arm giving it a distinctly odd look. She needs a touch more fullness in the top of the sleeve probably with a touch less fabric in the pouf.

    • alyce1213

Still no.  The neck, armholes and shoulders are a problem, and although the color is nice on her, it’s an ugly print and too shiny.
I don’t like her hair when it looks wiggy.

    • granddelusion

The puffy sleeves don’t work. That’s about the only comment I have. Oh, except that the shoes are ugly and boring, and her hair seems a little ragged

    • http://twitter.com/dollsaga Dollsaga

      the colors of Mardi Gras!

    • iCouture

Hair & Clutch from back in February.

Smile & Knocked up look from Now.

    • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

I am officially giving up on her.

    • Janet B

I had to go back and look, I gave her an OUT and I stand by it.

    • nannypoo

I don’t like the dress, but I love her beautiful face and its sly yet adorable expression.

    • DesertRodent

She looks like she just found out she’s expecting.

    • Lilithcat

The high neck is not her friend.  Those weird poufs at the shoulder are nobody’s friends.  The color is good, though.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_L6FKGKUXWF6QSWWYAHJZYKKI3E Adrian

This reminds me of the argument I had with my fruit-fly friend about why ladies with curves and big boobs shouldn’t wear turtlenecks. It makes it look like your boobs start at your neck and end at your belly button. There was blood.

      • roadtrip1000

         You have a fruit-fly friend?

    • kikisayshi

She looks frumpy here. Maybe it’s the terrible hair. The first-wear looks like a totally different dress, and it’s fabulous. This, not so much.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1208138556 Sara Munoz Munoz

If Bob Ross ever went to formal events, I think that’s the suit he would have worn.

      • http://profiles.google.com/awilsongirl Amy Wilson

When Bob Ross’ name is invoked on TLo, the day has officially been made. Brava!

      • Jackie4g

Bob Ross as in ” and a happy little tree lives rot about tcheer”?  I recently found out his son continued the TV painting lessons. Bob Ross did improve the world. Can’t imagine him in a suit, though!

    • decormaven

Her skin looks great! And I love that color on her, but just not that frock. Those little puffed sleeves do not need to come back. They were ugly the first time, and haven’t gotten any better. I’d like a closeup of that green ring- looks like a mah jongg tile.

    • MaryanneGirl

I think the dress is fabulous – the angle is better here, though.  Looking at the February post, a straight-on shot makes her look a bit bulky…I think it’s the big shoulders. Also, frizzy mc frizz frizz.

      P.s. I want that bag.

    • http://blue-again.myopenid.com/ blue

I would really like to know her bra size. I have huge boobs myself, and I’d really like to think I don’t look that awful. She’s lovely, of course, but the giant boobs end up making her look so huge. Especially when they’re covered in fabric up to her chin. If I knew for sure she was a few cup sizes bigger than me, I’d feel better. Yes, it’s all about me.

    • SewingSiren

I think she looks great in this dress. And the green clutch (big and empty as it is) is a great choice.

    • Corazon Nunez

Love the big clutch! And the dress is soooo much better, even if those sleeves need a little work.

    • greyhoundgirl

Hate the dress.  But she looks so happy–radiant–that I have to love how she looks.  If it were an In or Out post I’d give her an In for her face and her glow (hmm…) and maybe for how happy she seems to be with her partner.

    • mhleta

The dress does not fit her in the arms and chest at all. I LOVE that she has a nerdy husband, though. This is my new favorite couple. They’re really cute together.

    • Kirsten Henry

her hair looks a little fried

    • SapphoPoet

No comment about her midsection, but the top is not flattering. Makes her look super-inflated or something. Great color, though.

    • quiltrx

I still like the dress…I do wish the neckline wasn’t quite so windpipe-cutting.

And I so love it that her hubby is that crazy-ass guy from Super Troopers!  I just smile every time I see them together.

    • http://twitter.com/Alloyjane Alloy Jane

Her hair needs a conditioning treatment or something, it’s a bit haystack-looking from processing.

The first time I saw her interview, I had no idea who she was but I thought it was very sweet that she was so excited about her nerdy husband.  So I looked him up and saw that he was Upchuck in Daria.  Now I’m convinced that that is the first and third reason why she married him.

      • alyce1213

He’s not really nerdy, he’s actor-nerdy, which means he wears glasses in public to affect a look.

    • Judih1

Does she own a hairbrush? Her hair always looks terrible to me. Love the color though

    • Rebecca Jay

Nope, still a hideous grandma dress.  This time with a grandma purse and grandma wig hair.

But love the expressions on her face.

    • RzYoung

I don’t like it at all I’m afraid.

    • spooki C

That dress looks really uncomfortable in the arm pit area. WTF is going on there? Love the purple but that black splatter paint nonsense right over her boobs is distracting as hell.

    • formerlyAnon

She needs a tiny scoop or modest v neck & to lose the puffy sleeves (or have this, like EVERY ITEM IN HER WARDROBE professionally fitted/remade so it FITS.)  Then, even though I don’t love the fabric, she’d lose the hint of upholstered furniture & just look pretty. Like the shoes (in the pantheon of her shoes, which seem chosen for function over impact).

She is SO beautiful. I wish she’d just take her money and have her entire wardrobe made to order. If designers want her to wear their clothes, they’d have to let them be altered or remade for her, specifically.

And re: pregnancy speculation, I couldn’t help but sigh in pity over how difficult she’ll find dressing her chest through pregnancy & nursing. Though I suspect she’s just waving around her fashionably large clutch.

      • MarissaLG

        Yes yes yes. Completely agree.

    • Lisa Dugan

I like this version with the teal clutch and black shoes better than the black clutch and teal shoes she wore in February.  Minor change but it makes a difference.

    • Jackie4g

I like the color and I like the splatter print. I hope the silk is a blend with some spandex in it because there is visible stress at the armholes, and that can bind. The sudden explosion of additional boobage might indicate pregnancy, which would also justify the cat that ate the canary look. I likethe color of the purse, but not the size. Well, without the cleavage, other diners can concentrate on their meal. Can’t be bad.

    • neofashionista

it was better the first time she wore it
she looks like a fancy couch
only this time without the nicer hair and makeup she had last time
also i am not sure if she is wearing a belt this time because she is covering her midriff with her enormous matchy purse

    • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

i love these colors on her.  and i’ll take that purse if no one else wants it.

    • BigWhiteGrannyPanties

I am just not loving that dress.  Purple is great on redheads – it’s an old standby and it works almost as well as green. But the shiny fabric with the hint of swirly darker purple, and then with more colors of red and green AND blue, AND a really high neck, AND those puffed shoulder things – it all screams 1987/”Dallas” episode to me.  Like something you would wear to a bar but not a sleazy bar – a bar for an after work function.  And you work in Human Resources.  I am distracted by the whole thing.  The woman herself looks so happy.  Perhaps she is pregnant.  Her skin is gorgeous.  Her hair looks pretty lush, if dyed, and her expression, especially as someone else pointed out in the third photo down, looks secretive and Mona Lisa like.  And her date looks tense.  All of that adds up to pregnancy to me.   But that dress?  Nope.

    • librarygrrl64

The neckline is too high. Other than that, while I am not a fan of this color palette, it suits her.

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/55YPC3HCOPINXJVRKIQUO4VSFI Gordons

      Baby bump?

    • ojosazules

She loves her hubby, she is gorgeous, and the dress is very bad.

    • Trisha26

The fabric looks garish and cheap and I hate that purse (but I hate green so…). I’m convinced she needs to wear her hair up all the time.

    • altermyego

wow, Christina’s dress is good but not great but that adorable smile makes her overall look great! Now compare it to Solange who is wearing a good but not great dress with a sour puss and it gives the overall look an OUT.

    • PeaceBang

I presume she is With Child, but that doesn’t excuse the no-neck scariness she’s serving up here.

    • judybrowni

The stupid shoulder pads create a purple, extra tiny breast bump on each shoulder.

Really? This is the effect you’re going for, Ms. Christine?

Also that neckline is doing her no favors.

    • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

It’s straight out of Joan’s closet, which is probably why it almost works, though it needs some minor adjustments in the fit.

The bag is too matchy, though. and the fabric SCREAMS 1980’s.

    • Zippypie

Oooooo, nooooo.  The 80s had a lot of ugly.  We don’t need it recycled.  But she has that cat who just swallowed the canary look.  What mischief has Miss Christina been up to???

    • guest2visits

This would be ok if the sleeves had no poof at the shoulders and a less strangled neckline.
But a very cute cat-that-ate-the-canary smile.

    • butter nut

i just want to run a little argan oil through her hair & steal her purse when she’s not looking.

    • ccm800

Good lawd she looks like the technicolor peacock 80s edition. Plus – somehoe this makes her look quite …well fat this time around.
