Christa B. Allen in Donna Karan

Posted on October 17, 2012

Oh, sweetie! Your pretend gay uncles are so proud of you today! Your last couple attempts at public appearances had us quite concerned with your taste levels.

Christa Allen attends the celebration of Target’s 50th Anniversary in New York City in a Donna Karan dress paired with a Judith Leiber clutch, and Armani shoes.

Donna Karan Resort 2013 Collection/Model: Romee Strijd

But this is really cute. We question whether you should have wasted it on a Target party, but we’ll take what we can get from you. Since the dress is a little retro, and since you decided to go full-on formal for a trip to Target, we think the look would have been helped with the hair up or back (ponytail would’ve been perfect), and with a stronger lip. Also: metallic accessories; we would’ve accepted either gold or silver in the purse and shoes.

But still! Good for you, honey! Smile pretty for the cameras!

Yikes, her pose in the middle picture looks like she’d have to dislocate her hips to make that work!

    • Qitkat

And if a brisk breeze came along, she would tilt over on her face, or tush.

    • sekushinonyanko

It looks like her feet are on crooked.

      • http://twitter.com/MajorBedhead MajorBedhead

She looks like my 3 year-old used to when she was about to start doing the pee-pee dance.

  • TAGinMO

What a strange dress, and I don’t find it particularly flattering on her. The bodice makes her look wider than she is, the length and cut of the skirt aren’t really doing her any favors, and overall it seems like the dress is wearing her.

To sum up, this seems more like a “Girl, That’s Not Your Dress” entry to me. Pack that thing up and send it to Cate Blanchett or Gwyneth Paltrow, stat!

Really? I don’t think either of them do the romantic tutu silhouette much, do they?

This is nice, and a step in the right direction. Not amazing.

      • TAGinMO

I recommended Blanchett because it just seems like a lot of dress for an amateur, and she’s proven time and again she’s a pro who can wear a lot of dress.

As for Paltrow, I thought of her mostly because of her physical resemblance to the model in the picture. I think the skirt in particular would work best on someone tall and thin.

    • B_C_J

I agree wholeheartedly.  This dress is not fitting well in the bodice and the skirt looks messy and clumsy.  It DEFINITELY falls in the “Girl, that’s not your dress” category.

  • ballerinawithagun

Hummm, I don’t think so. The hem just looks messy on her. On the model it is very definitely longer on the sides and shorter in the middle.

    • mellorcr

I was wondering if the hem on the model had been distorted by the way they photoshopped her legs to be about 5 feet long.  Stretching that out could have over-emphasized what was a very shallow curve in reality.  In any case, if they have to do that much photshopping on a model, it’s a clear sign that the dress will never work on a human.

  • Miss_Led

I think it makes her look wide and stumpy. I don’t think black is her color, either. Is this grading on the curve?

  • MilaXX

Appreciate the effort, but not loving this. The dress is too long, the shoes are hiddy ad the bag is generic.

  • DylanCurtis

It’s a little too long. But much much better.

  • dawnboo

Target is 50 years old?  I had no idea it has been around that long.

  • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

It’s a gorgeous dress, but it’s too long on her. Still, big improvement over what she usually shows up in.

  • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

My only issue is that one shot where it looks like she was assembled with her legs on the wrong sides. Otherwise she looks terrific all the way round.

  • Sartorial_She

I agree the dress is tasteful and I will always applaud a step in that direction. Unfortunately, it’s just not that flattering on her.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Maya-KC/537771651 Maya KC

No, I don’t think so. The bodice looks so stiff! Like a toilet paper roll covered in black glitter. It’s turning her in to a cylinder.

  • Qitkat

I think her hair and makeup look outstanding. The dress is almost wearing her and a bit much A LOT MUCH for Tarzheé.

My question is why the initial B? It annoys me unreasonably.

    • MilaXX

Probably a SAG thing. There may already be a Christa Allen.

  • BazoDee

Man that dress is wearing her. Pack it up and send it to Charlotte York.

  • PastryGoddess

So either that model is eleventyseven feet tall or Christa is a wee muchkin.

  • Anathema_Device

I think this dress needs to be on a taller woman. The fun of the hemline is kind of lost on her.

  • LeifBallard

I would prefer the length a little shorter or a little longer…but other than that the best I’ve seen her look!

  • http://phantomminuet.blogspot.com/ MinAgain

Someone is really getting graded on the curve.  And what is going on with her feet in that third picture?!?

  • http://TheDoseofReality.com/ The Dose of Reality

I guess this is good for her, but the bust line looks awkwardly straight then pointy at her underarms. The length is a puzzler. It stumpifies her and make her look hippy—and she is not.

  • mightbewrong

Holy crap, third picture down is bring the need-to-pee pose to new heights.

And I think the dress is gorgeous, but you’d need to be extremely tall to pull it off.

  • PeaceBang

That was very kind and encouraging of you but I think this dress and this little lass do not go together.

  • charlotte

Black Swan is getting married. At Target.

  • jw_ny

I had to click on the tag for her…honestly couldn’t remember seeing her or recognized her name.  Low and behold, there were many postings of her…one just yesterday too.  lol.  I see why you are giving her encouragement…some truly bad outfits (Some were pretty good tho)  BUT, as for this black swan dress…I’m thinking you could’ve been a bit more critical.  The length, shoes, accessories, the fit at the bust, all that tulle…ugh.  All that aside, she looks very pretty; hair and makeup good…perhaps not right for that dress tho.

  • NC_Meg

Clearly Donna Karan is going to different resorts than I am. (You know, if I went to resorts.)

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_F73LIJ3SJGI5AJQMXMWXCKILHI Pamela

It’s the “I have to pee!” stance!

  • Trisha26

It’s pretty but it makes her look very wide at the top.

  • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

the shoes on the runway model are ghastly!  can’t believe DK approved that.

  • kschwarting

It is a definite improvement over her previous efforts though, as noted, a bit of overkill for a Target party.  I’m not convinced the shape of the dress is particularly flattering on her, though.
