Chloe Sevigny in Miu Miu

Posted on October 04, 2012

Chloe let one of her alters out to attend the Paris shows, darlings!

Chloe Sevigny attends the Miu Miu Spring/Summer 2013 show as part of Paris Fashion Week in head-to-toe Miu Miu.

Miu Miu Fall 2012 Collection

Meet Muffy.

Muffy is a New York socialite with a taste for the wild side. Muffy’s interests include couture, servants, Pussy Riot mixtapes, nipple piercings, attending fashion shows, and inappropriate public behavior. But Muffy’s favorite thing in the world to do is to brush her hair with a fork, pair her grandmother’s old clothes with something wildly inappropriate, like ugly shoes or hot pants, and get her picture taken at Paris Fashion Week. Muffy’s plan is to get granny to die from shock before she has a chance to change her will. Banging pots and pans together near her head while she was sleeping only resulted in a short hospital stay last time and a slashing of her monthly allowance, so Muffy’s trying to be a little more subtle this time around.

Is it bad that we think Muffy looks pretty good here? Except for the shoes, of course.

I think I have the same look on my face as the doorman.

      • http://twitter.com/fncmullin Nora M.

I love the look on his face. He’s clearly trying to control the immediate “WTF?!” response.

        • http://twitter.com/MajorBedhead MajorBedhead

Yeah, I have that same look, too. I just don’t get her appeal, unless it’s purely for the WTF-edness of it all. In the thumbnail, I thought it was Gabriel whotsit from Revenge.

But I do love the TLo stories, so I shall put up with Ms. Sevigny.

      • Call me Bee

Oh yes..  He is thinking, “the little woman will never believe this…”

      • Vaniljekjeks

         The doorman’s expression is priceless.

      • Maine1ac

He might just be checking out her legs?  I wouldn’t totally mind if I woke up one day and mine looked like that.

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_NFN2OXT4ZJJD4MEUTLUDLMNRIQ yahoo-NFN2OXT4ZJJD4MEUTLUDLMNRIQ

Makes me think of the old Cynthia Heimel essay where, in the throes of PMS, she gets dressed in “a symphony of reds” only to be stopped from leaving the building by her doorman.

        • Miss_Magpie

Yay for someone else reading (and remembering!) Cynthia Heimel! The “symphony of reds” is a line that has stayed with me for, well, a VERY long time. Once I made the mistake of loaning out all of her books to someone….maybe my next mission will be reaquiring all of her works. Thanks for the reminder!

    • Introspective

YAAAAASSS!!! Shes back bitches!!!! (and shes here with all her alter ego homegirls to boot!) I LIVE

    • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

BWAH HAH HAH HAH!!!!!! Muffy,….(snorting coffee)
Lord how I hate the bracelet length sleeve of that jacket.  Gotta say, though, she looks smashing in those colors. And I agree, the shoes are Ah Tro Shusss.

      • Lori

In addition to being sort of ridiculous, without socks those shoes pretty much have to be giving her blisters on her blisters. Even if she’s wearing footies the edges must be rubbing her raw with every step she takes. Both my feet and my eyes hurt just looking at that.

        • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

muffie has servants who carry her around, so that’s not a problem for her.

      • paginatrix

I am mortififed to admit that I had shoes very similar to those in the 4th grade (1974). Not as platform-y or high-heeled. But that color and style. I thought I was really bad-ass.

        • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

I still maintain, that the 70’s, (a decade I lived through,as well) was 10 years of design and styling that really never need repeating, or referencing.  I remember wearing boy versions of those shoes.  Sure, at the time I thought I was seriously fine.  In short order, though, I looked back on them with quiet horror.  Mercifully, all images of me in those days have been expunged. With the glaring exception of my hilarious school yearbook/graduation picture. Tumbling, wavy, shoulder length, center parted hair, burgundy turtleneck, and a brown, navy and off white PLAID jacket, with lapels that could have allowed me to take flight.

          • http://twitter.com/janedonuts Jane Donuts

            Quick! Someone tell Rachel Zoe!

          • Call me Bee

I am right there with you.  I am mortified that some of the worst ideas in clothing from my college days are now being replicated and gushed over, like these shoes.  They look just like the ones my ex wore in our wedding, albiet a more neutral color (camel!)  Horrible.
(I feel the same way about many of the 80s fashions as well;  i.e. velvet dress with huge puff sleeves, dropped waist and satin circle skirt with a HUGE bow on the ass.  *shudder*  I know that’s gonna show up on some future runway…)

            • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

You just described, in one go, every attrocious bridesmaid dress any of my female freinds had to suffer through in the 80’s and earlier 90’s

          • gabbilevy

            Oh, DO share that photo!!

            • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

THAT would cost you, plenty.  lol

            • formerlyAnon

The hair sounds drop dead gorgeous. The clothing was era-appropriate!

          • Warmheartedgirl Seattle

OMG post pictures!!  Having graduated myself in ’73, I know EXACTLY what you’re talking about, LOL!

          • http://www.facebook.com/people/Mary-Stone/100001328135240 Mary Stone

             Sounds Gaw-juss

My hubby’s favorite outfit from his mod days was …. drumroll please…. white wool turtleneck, over black-watch trews (bells o course),all o’er topped with a piper’s tunic.

STUNNING.  I STILL think it looked great on him.

          • formerlyAnon

Honestly, I’ll plaster my 70s ensembles on billboards before I’ll let a single snapshot of my 80s attempts at style see the light of day.

          • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_2CNDPMVO4W23R5TVC2QMTJ5BZE Heather

I still maintain that the early 90s were worse. Your photo sounds AWESOME, by the way.

        • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

did you sprain an ankle during recess? paramedics to the playground, STAT!

      • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

my mom used to try to get me to wear jackets with that sleeve length.  since i was already a foot taller than everyone else, i looked like a gangly mess.

        • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Its a style that must be proportioned to perfection, to work right.  This seems slightly off. The body of the jacket is fine, though short, but the sleeves need to either go up, or down, an inch or a skosh more to be right for Muffy here.

          • Snailstsichr

I’m glad they tailored the rest of the jacket, though, or it would have been too much for this look.

        • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_2CNDPMVO4W23R5TVC2QMTJ5BZE Heather

I have monkey arms, so a lot of jackets are that length on me naturally. I either have to pretend that they’re supposed to be 3/4 sleeve, or get them tailored.

Like capri pants, I think it can look nice on petite women, but the taller of us just look like we’ve outgrown our clothes.

    • RebeccaKW

I sort of love those shoes-not with this outfit, but in general.  The clothing…I kind of like.  On her.  Nicole Kidman would look crazy in this, but this says Chloe all over it.

    • pablo ushoda

Very much a personal best for her in a long time. she keep her aesthetics and pulled out a clean and not to wacky look

    • GorgeousThings

      The shoe/shorts combination is atrocious.

    • Susan Sontag

I think I had those shoes for the first day of school, 9th grade.  1970?

      • cebollinger

OMG so did I! 1969 — first day of 9th grade!

        • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

they let you wear shorts to school in 1969?  that’s incredible!  when i graduated from high school in 1966, we couldn’t wear pants of any kind.  we were still wearing hose and girdles with garters.  we had one day a year when we could wear shorts, called “bermuda shorts day”.  that was life in the public schools in burbank california. gateway to the san fernando valley.

          • NC_Meg

My mom went to school in FL in the 60s-70s and would always tell me how they had to wear skirts or dresses, no pants or shorts. Blew my mind!

          • YoungSally

Wow Burbank was not as cool as San Jose…we definitely wore shorts…my brother didn’t know that boys wore long pants until he got to school….but then I was in kindergarten in 69…..My mother was still rocking the girdle even in the mid-late 70s

    • http://profiles.google.com/gillianholroyd gillian holroyd

Love the colors and mix of prints. The shorts with the clumpy shoes make it look like she’s trying too hard and the sunglasses are just frightening.

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_3JSTXMWWVZN2QNP2UEKJMTWD7U Isabel

        Top half looks great!

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=555593309 Alexis Peñafuerte Wenceslao

      I like the shoes!

      • http://melaniesuzanne.blogspot.com/ Melanie Suzanne

I do, too! I would wear them with everything except hot pants. Not that I wear hot pants…

        • MissAmynae

me three! the curves and shape of them are so fun and pretty!

    • http://profiles.google.com/susanvmayer Susan Mayer

The jacket doesn’t go with the rest of the outfit.  It especially clashes with the shorts.  Almost, Muffy.

    • CheriCPat

She looks fabulous, all the way down to an including her shoes!  That is not an outfit many people could wear, but she is the leader of the club of those who can.  Love it, would never wear it.

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_2CNDPMVO4W23R5TVC2QMTJ5BZE Heather

Agreed. I’m OK with this, on her. It’s very “Clueless,” in a good way (sans over-the-knee socks).

      • ojosazules

        For me, a WERQ.

        • MissAmynae

Agreed. Our quirky Miss Chloe is BAck, Biznatches!!

      • http://profile.yahoo.com/KBNJ6GJTXYEE6BON3WGK6KEGT4 Elizabeth

Agreed! I love this look on her. She’s totally owning it. And, yes, most people would look like an asshat in this ensemble, but she can rock it. Mui Mui suits her perfectly. Even if it’s not your cup of tea, you gotta give her respect for those amazing legs! Damn!

    • ojosazules

The shoes are perfect. Not a big fan of shorts in general, but, I think she nails it here.

    • teensmom99

I wanted to hate the shorts but somehow I don’t.  You called it again, dear dear TLo.

    • http://asskickingadviser.com/ Ass Kicking Adviser

Of course it’s not bad – she look amazing! She’s the Miu-Miu gal and she has to dress the part. I love the whole ensemble – even the strange shoes.

      • MsBusy

Agree. There’s too much hating on her — she’s interesting and takes chances — always fun to see her!

    • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

“Muffy” looks like a guy in drag.

      • SewingSiren

That’s a good twist. Muffy’s given name was Michael, but has gone by “Muffy” since the age of 15.

        • alyce1213

          THAT’S what was missing!

          • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

that’s what i said to myself when i found out my longtime office companion was a transsexual.  suddenly, everything clicked.

      • alyce1213

        Some of the alters do.

    • Judy_S

I played the game of guessing the alter’s name while scrolling down. For some reason (the hair?) I came up with Graeme.
However, s/he looks good, in a ridiculous way.

    • In_Stitches

Objectively, it’s off.  My mind is telling me those shoes are ugly and that shirt and jacket just don’t work, but I really like it.  The styling was smart, from the thick gold watch to the hair and glasses.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100001637020912 Zula Khramov

It’s about looking good not because but in spite of the outfit – you’ve got to be Sevigny to do that

    • http://www.djplaw.com/ Tadiana

The shoes are a total scrolldown fug for me.  I keep looking back and forth between the shoes on her and the shoe in the collection picture.  I swear the shoes look more twee on her, like the toes are curled up.  Chloe’s aura has turned them into big elven shoes.

      • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

i don’t think those are the same shoes.  her heels look much higher.

        • http://www.djplaw.com/ Tadiana

You are so right; I didn’t even notice the heel difference because I was focusing on the curve in the front.  She should have stuck with the original version.

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/XAFAJ53QF3DLEFQB3WTLMRM75E MarinaB

She is going to be everywhere pushing American Horror Story.  I can’t wait to meet some more of her personalities!

      • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

is she in american horror story?  now i have to watch.

        • http://profile.yahoo.com/XAFAJ53QF3DLEFQB3WTLMRM75E MarinaB

Yes, she is a nympho in the psych hospital in the new season.  Starts Oct 17!  Look for some previews–freaky!

    • StellaZafella

Everything above the knee looks too short, like she outgrew it by the time she got to wear it.
And Grama is likely to have a heart attack when she see’s Muffy’s painted her best Sunday school ortho-loafers red.

    • Judy_J

Muffy does look pretty good in Granny’s jacket and blouse.  But those shoes are hiddy.

    • Janet B

I like Muffy’s style, except for the shoes.

    • l_c_ann

The guy in the background with his eyes closed?  yep.

    • sashaychante

I remember my mom wearing shoes like those in the’70s…elevator shoes.

    • iheartbuffy

      serving up Bowie.

    • http://twitter.com/cornekopia Shawn EH

Muffy sounds like one cool chick!

    • Kyle Crawford

I like it all, including the shoes…

      • Katebush

I love the shoes- nice to see something different!!

    • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

I think she looks good, but I agree the shoes don’t work with this look. HOWEVER, I think the shoes could work if paired with skinny pants. Just me?

    • Miss_Magpie

Lawd but I love Chloe posts!  Y’all just put me in a good mood for the rest of the day!  (And I DO like the whole ensemble, Shoes included.  *ducks*)

    • SewingSiren

I like the shoes. But I would wear them with a long narrow dress.

    • Rand Ortega

I had a pair of those shoes when I was 6. They were from Buster Brown’s.

      • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

BUSTER BROWNS!!!   Oh, wow, I remember that store; that’s where we went every year to get new school shoes, lol.

    • BeeBeauNYC

Muffy is a total whack job, but she does look good here in the kookiest of ways.

    • kolokOlchik

Here’s what I don’t get.  She’s actually a pretty good actress.  What is she doing with all of these crazy getups?

      • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

        For the attention, what else?

        • kolokOlchik

But it just makes her seem like a total wacko and who’d want to hire a total wacko?

    • NC_Meg

I like the shorts a lot, mostly because of the color. I’m having a plum moment. Everything else…nah.

    • MilaXX

      I think Muffy looks great.

    • tallgirl1204

Herbert Hoover Junior High School, Indiatlantic, Florida, circa 1972.  This outfit was EVERYWHERE.  Including the shoes, pretty much. And I have to say, we looked fabulous then, too.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000088447181 Sam Smith

She has great legs, wonder what she does as far as a work out.

    • imspinningaround

The shoes are terrible.  Everything else is divine, ESPECIALLY Chloe’s gams.  10.0 best legs ever.

      • Sartorial_She

I posted exactly the same thing before I saw your comment.

Sorry, BKs, for being repetitive (albeit inadvertently).

    • Alexandra Simons

This was truly a scroll-down fug. Muffy was looking good until the shorts and the hideous shoes. Why oh why????

    • Wendi126

This may be a first for me- I don’t like one item she is wearing especially the pinball wizard shoes and yet I love her in this and think she looks fab.

      • Elizabetta1022

Yes! I call this “Young Val Kilmer Syndrome” — when he was in a prime Jim Morrison Biopic days, he was so yummy, but actually each one of his features was not very attractive: small eyes, busted nose, weird mouth. But man, he used to make me swoon. Same goes for Chloe’s outfit–it works!

    • bittykitty

“brushing her hair with a fork!”  bwahahaha, hysterical!

    • Anathema_Device

I actually like this, too, even with those ugly shoes.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1129137319 Paula Pertile

I think the shoes are so bad they work. Or maybe they’re ironic or something. Somehow, I get it. I love the whole thing.

    • TomBord

hey …….do u know the way to the terry richardson shoot?

    • tereliz

I’m just glad Muffy picked an outfit from this collection before any of the other alters could get to it. Some of the wrinkly, shapeless sacks that walked the runway were much more Hansi the German tourist’s style. ;)

      Do love that jacket, Muffy!

    • Call me Bee

She looks as if she grew out of her clothes.  And is wearing her daddys shoes.

But I dig that handbag and want it a lot.

    • PastryGoddess

OMG The Sev is totally a Miu Miu girl.  Should Miuccia start adoption proceedings now or wait?

    • http://vhanna26.typepad.com Vera

      I love the stories!

    • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

CHLOE I LOVE YOU!  and muffie and all the others!  never change!

    • greyhoundgirl

Love, love.  And her little grin is the hottest thing about her.

    • Cathy S

I like Muffy’s look except for the shoes too. The shoes are horrible, but she looks cute otherwise.

    • Tatiana Luján

The fit of the jacket is kinda off

    • Sartorial_She

I think there might be something wrong with me. Beyond all reason, I love what she’s wearing (save those hideous shoes). How ’bout that? I actually LIKE something Chloe Sevigny is wearing. It’s a first! Now, I really must excuse myself and head off to see the neurologist.

Also: I think she might have the best legs in the business.

    • bitchybitchybitchy

Muffy, Priscilla Alden called-she wants her shoes back.

    • chelwi

Minus the shoes and sunglasses, this is a really cute look. Loving the print mixing!

    • petalfrog

I actually love the whole thing, including the shoes! I’m glad she got them in a higher heel rather than that awkward mid-heel on the model.

    • EEKstl

I’m with Muffy all the way on this one, including the shoes, shockingly.  And her legs are so good, it’s criminal for her NOT to show them off!

    • Elizabeth Silverstein

I actually love it – from her chin to her ankles.

    • MichaelStrangeways

      uh, those shoes are awesome.

And, only appropriate for club kid, fashionistas with the legs to pull them off, but fabulous nonetheless….

    • sanja_ramic

I have to agree, aside from the hideous shoes everything here is working for me. You know I think the Chloe Sevigny posts might be my favourite, I just can’t wait to read about her alters, am I the only one who thinks TLo and Miss Chloe should do a book together?

    • http://twitter.com/thesquizz Lauren

      Masterful pattern mixing!

    • PeaceBang

Well, I LOVE Muffy’s ensemble (ignoring the shorts, which I hate on principle) and the shoes. I want to have a big latte date with Muffy and plot how to spend Granny’s money.

    • Madeline

I actually really like the shoes, just not with that particular outfit

    • neofashionista

LOVE her, though I think muffy might be short for Mufford as ms muffy appears to have a package

    • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

There was a Muffy in my class in prep school (I know, I know), but she looked/dressed nothing like this.

    • BrightsideSusan

Muffy needs to ditch grandma’s shoes.

    • Warmheartedgirl Seattle

Personally I love the changes to the jacket.  It looks so much better on Chloe – tailored more closely to the body and much shorter.  I like the sleeve length – you can show off your bracelets and zhuzh the sleeves up a bit.  Love the print on both the jacket and the blouse, and admire anyone brave enough to mix them.  Only things I can’t stand are the shorts and the shoes.  My god those are awful shoes.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=18800610 Mando Kelly

AMAZING!!! Great mix of prints. :D

    • http://twitter.com/Alloyjane Alloy Jane

<3 to Muffy.  Those shoes make her look like a pink clydesdale.

    • Monabel

Does the doorman disapprove of the shoes?

    • carolynmo

I love you guys. This is brilliant.

    • kimmeister

I’d actually love this look if she had a solid colored top under the jacket, different shoes, and different shades.

    • holdmewhileimnaked

everything [down to & including shoes]=wonderful.
      but shorty shorts=ruinous.

    • frannyprof

Chloe should be Miuccia’s (sp?) muse. She IS Miu Miu.

    • http://twitter.com/watchinginkdry Krysta

the pose in the first picture is hilarious.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Mary-Stone/100001328135240 Mary Stone

Guys…she looks good here?  That hair is a faux-mullet, and I just can’t with any of it.  All the pieces are focus pulling, and yes the eye has to travel, but it’s gotta stop somewhere.  Florence Welch was a fail in a head-to-toe ensemble from this same collection, and I think in the very same blouse (?) Muffy joins Flo in fail.

    • guest2visits

Yes, I too am concerned – mr. doorman.  Geez; the hollywood types have really latched onto this look from Miu Miu.

    • http://twitter.com/#!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

The inseam on those shorts is hella pulling all over the place, and I’ve never wanted to set fire to a pair of shoes more.  But seriously:  the WTF face on the doorman is giving me life.

    • fiestyfashionfem

Fashion designers are just laughing to themselves now and trying to figure out how far they can push the ugly button and still get us to spend a fortune.

    • http://twitter.com/flo_whytingale Florence Whytingale

Muffy looks great, and the shoes are working for me in this instance (but never to be repeated).

    • boomchicabowwow

Oh for crying in the BEER!  I have SOOOO missed your Chloe “alters” posts!!  I hope she loves them as much as the rest of us BK’s!

    • mike__tv

I thought Buffy looked more like a chairwoman of cappa gamma phi. Her divorce was just finalized and she’s back on the market. She has multiple orgasims, many small pets, which she dies all pink. She has trichotillomania which is very hard for her, shop listing which is fun, and amphetamines. Did I do it right?

    • bellafigura1

And I am here to say, should you be tiring of the Sevigny alters theme, you’ll get no protest from me if it’s dropped.  It’s an awful lot to keep up with, and it’s hit and miss.  With love!

I love this look, including the shoes, although the color is wrong.  This takes a forest or teal shoe with that same burnished antiquey effect.

    • mayavaly

Oh no, I thought I spotted a camel toe in picture #2. I was trying to make up my mind about the shorts, which is now a pointless waste of time because no. I think the guy in the background knows what I’m talking about too.

David Bowie’s weird twin. I had those shoes in the 70s in high school minus the platforms and they were just as hideous then.

If anyone could pull off this look it’s Chloe. (I can’t imagine even her pulling off the full suit of printed jacket and long pants though!) The shoes are hein.

It’s either chic or the result of a frustrating day thrifting high end consignment.

      I’m going with chic.

(I like the shoes better than they deserve despite the fact that they look like part of an ensemble for a Disco Duck-themed costume party.  They aren’t perfect here but I can think of many, many worse choices.)

I actually really like the outfit on Sevigny.  Possibly not only anyone else.  I think the proportions are excellent on her, and color sufficiently unifies the disparate patterns.  Shoes are ugly with this, and probably ugly period, and I think that the bag veers into grandma territory, but the crazy glasses are seriously working on her face.  Much better than what I expected upon hearing the words “Sevigny” and “Miu Miu.”

I’m kind of worried about myself…from the ankles up, I actually think Muffy is kind of fierce…or at least one of the more fierce personalities.

i love this look on her. the color story and patterns are really working here. this is the first outfit i’ve seen that works with the shoes.

      MARVELOUS! Even the shoes.

I for a moment considered that this might just be Drew Droege punking us. No such luck.

I love it all–even the shoes.

Love the entire thing, Including the shoes.

Love these alter-egos. And I think Muffy looks fab too. I don’t even mind the shoes, mostly because I love that rich color.

I totally LOVE and want those shoes.

Thank God, lol! It’s not just me. Those shoes are fierce as hell!

    • bringbackbeatles

I love all these pieces individually. I also love the top and jacket together. I’m just not completely sold on the shorts with the other pieces. I think, proportionally, they might look better with a tiny bit more length, but the more I look, the more they grow on me. The shoes are amazing! I so want them!

The shoes are my favorite part of the outfit! I wouldn’t pair them with hot pants, but then I’m not Muffy.

      I LOVE those crazy shoes.

I actually like the shoes; they’ve be great in January with a pair of heavyweight trousers and a chunky-knit cardigan.
