Cathy Cambridge Feels a Nip in the Air

Posted on October 09, 2012

Kittens, let’s start the day off with some Mrs. Cathy. Like us, Mrs. Cathy is feeling the nip of fall in the air and, probably like us, she excitedly dove into her stash of sweaters and cute little hats, giddy over the prospect of layering, which always means you can have more carbs in your life. Just two of the many ways our lives and Mrs. Cathy’s life are eerily similar.

Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge and Prince William, Duke of Cambridge visit Middle Temple in London.

SUPER cute, Mrs. Cathy! We kinda wish you hadn’t worn black suede pumps with your tights, but that’s one of the rare instances where our opinions and Mrs. Cathy’s opinions diverge; we feel like we’ve been arguing with her about her shoes for years now.

And look at Mr. Cathy, in his slim-lapeled, single-breasted suit with the perfect hem! Oh, Mrs. Cathy, you worked some wifely magic there, didn’t you? It takes a lot to get a man out of his daddy’s suits.

This is really cute – a modern version of the female suit

I think black shoes were the way to go – otherwise we’d all be complaining that the shoes are standing out and distracting from her clothes

      • http://raistlinsama.livejournal.com/ Raistlinsama

YEs, another pair of shoues would hve detracted from the dress. The only other shoes I can imagine with that dress would mean matchy shoes… and that would be HERESY!!! ;-)

      • Tatiana Luján

Yes to black shoes, but no to suede, something with a little more shine – like patent leather -,  would have avoided the no-feet effect.

        • miagain

My thoughts exactly.  Of course, I worship at the altar of black patent leather shoes… must be the 6 year old in me!!

          • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_3JSTXMWWVZN2QNP2UEKJMTWD7U Isabel

It’s colder over there than here. Suede is warm.

    • Lisa Dugan

She looks really cute while still looking lovely, mature, and put together.  I love the hint of lace cami underneath.

    • http://twitter.com/FlaviaGPantoja Flavia Pantoja

She looks lovely. Even if her skirt is, to me at least, a tad too short. And her shoes are boring, as always.

      • BazoDee

I thought the same thing about the skirt -but she can get away with that stuff.

        • Warmheartedgirl Seattle

Girl’s got legs for miles – I don’t think it is too short, especially when paired with the tights.  Love the suit.

      • kimmeister

Agree on the skirt length.  However, it is somewhat mitigated by the tights.

    • http://twitter.com/PsychicMuppet Bitsey Carver

I’ve been in London for a few weeks now and the black shoes/black tights thing is everywhere. Also it’s FREEZING.

      • http://twitter.com/yellowhannah33 yellowhannah33

HONEY. You ain’t seen nothin’ yet. It’s positively balmy.

        • http://typicalgirlink.wordpress.com/ Dorothy Damage

This is still jumper without a coat weather (though I have been adding a scarf recently) ! Even the kids are still out in just t-shirts.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jessica-TallGirl-Freeman/1043623567 Jessica TallGirl Freeman

I love the suit.  Just short enough for her age, but appropriate.  I’m not so sure I love the black hose and shoes with the suit, but its tasteful, as usual.  I too, am excited for extra layers so I can indulge in a few more carbs.

      • Chantelle James

I think if she’d gone for navy tights and shoes it would have looked better. However, if black tights are all the rage, who are we to say otherwise?

I also love getting to eat more carbs with the advent of fall. I’m not looking forward to having to walk the dog in the cold, however.

    • SoThenISaid

Will looks FAB. T&L, you were so right about his suits. Burn all the double breasted, dude.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Cortney-Dean/100002491593625 Cortney Dean

They both look fantastic, and I cannot get over how much younger (and less stodgy) Wills looks in the new suits. Well played Cathy!

    • Funkykatt

Perfect and that HAIR of her….PERFECT again.

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100002396153672 Ann Martina

AND on a rainy day, no less

    • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

They both look almost too good to be true.

      • http://twitter.com/MajorBedhead MajorBedhead

         I know. It’s awesome.

      • bitchybitchybitchy

I think their genuine happiness adds that little extra.

    • http://korilian.livejournal.com/ korilian

Damn. Cathy Cambridge and Lady Di. Undoing centuries of inbreeding in just two generations.

    • CPK1

agree about the suede. And love that he is now Mr. Cathy! :)

    • MilaXX

Cathy looks great but i wish she had done this look with boots instead of the suede pumps. I do applaud her for helping Will get his sexy back. is it wrong that I secretly wish he would just shave hie head? I dig bald guys.

      • CPK1

He should totally shave his head!! Odds on it actually happening are unfortunately slim I fear.

      • Cathy S

Oooh, boots! I bet those would have been nice.

    • lamamu

Love her dress-suit, but I wish she would sweep her hair behind her shoulders so we could better see the neckline. Granted, it is gorgeous hair and if I had such a glorious head of it, I might always be swooshing it around too.

    • ChiliP

“a Nip in the Air”-was that a cheeky way to reference Cathy’s recent paparazzi troubles? She probably doesn’t want to be associated with the word “nip” right now.

I kid. She looks pretty and appropriate for her position/the venue. The longer they are married, the better Will looks.

      • alyce1213

My first thought.  “Too soon?” as they say?

      • littlemac8

        My first thought, second!

      • http://twitter.com/Goldielox73 Goldie

When I read it, I thought maybe the girls were poking through what she was wearing due to the chill in the air. I should have known better, lol.

    • http://6things.blogspot.com par3182

I like how his tie subtly connects him with her (see, I did learn something from all those Mad Men style posts).

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_543JWZNT6UC5FCKPTKDBC2XKTQ cheryl

“Feels a nip in the air” was a devilishly clever way to describe it, given her recent photo scandal. So cheeky, you boys!

    • NC_Meg

I think I’m in the minority here. I love Cathy but I think this is my least favorite look of hers. I love the color but hate the skirt and I’m not crazy about the jacket. I can’t put my finger on exactly what it is but something doesn’t look right to me.

      • http://twitter.com/FlaviaGPantoja Flavia Pantoja

I think the jacket might be too short for the skirt, proportion-wise… I don’t love it either, but the ensemble is nice.

      • CheriCPat

I’m with you.  She looks fine, but not really focus-worthy.  The whole look feels kind of dated.

        • NC_Meg

          Yes! It looks dated.

          • leftcoastpickle

I’m not crazy about her suit, it seems over designed. Either the skirt or jacket needs to be simpler, I think the skirt. I like them both, but not together.  And the shoe with the black tights is so awful. But I still love Cathy so, and boot season is coming. And Wills looks so much better.

      • B_C_J

I totally agree. The shape of the skirt combined with the length and then paired with a jacket seems awkward. It would have looked better if it was a pencil skirt.

    • http://twitter.com/Lily1129 Lily

Perfect! Ah she looks great. Also, I really want that suit.

    • Judy_S

      SO cute. Both of them.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Clydette-Wantland/673315286 Clydette Wantland

      Adorable!

    • ballerinawithagun

The suit is wonderful but with stockings in style and her fabulous legs, I wish she would have worn patterned stockings instead of solid black. Wolford always has great patterns. She can afford them and I spring for them because they last forever! My cats can’t destroy them and their elastic doesn’t go bad as with inexpensive stockings.

    • Little_Olive

Sometimes I want HIS closet more than hers.

    • http://profiles.google.com/dorothymichael Dorothy & Michael n/a

I just want to look at pictures of her and sigh, and sigh, and sigh!

    • Le_Sigh

Damn – you know, I never noticed how truly horrible the double-breasted suits made Mr. Cathy look until he started wearing the right clothes.  Now he looks closer to his age.

    • http://www.ellenciompi.com/ NurseEllen

Super cute, indeed.  I don’t mind the black tights & pumps so much, although a pair of high-heeled boots might have also been appropriate.  Kinda awkward, in a precious way, that they are both posed exactly the same in the first photo!

    • http://twitter.com/MajorBedhead MajorBedhead

She’s just so adorable. Which is not something I usually say about someone so tall and willowy, but she is. And he looks gorgeous in a single-breasted suit. He’s so much less awkward than his father was. Is. He obviously inherited some of Diana’s poise.

    • Patricia Gillett

Should be a Pairs Division post. They both look great and I, for one would have liked to see them scored.

    • BuffaloBarbara

I love this!  And I hope she keeps doing the wifely magic on Wills, too, because that’s a sharp suit.

    • Cathy S

That suit is really fabulous and I love the color. Plus, I clearly have been reading this blog for too long. The first thing I did after admiring Ms. Cathy’s suit was to check if Wills was wearing a double-breasted suit. I was relieved to see he was not.

    • TheDivineMissAnn

I love it!  I absolutely love it all.  The woman can do no wrong.

    • Clueless_Jock

Pure class, both of them. Where does Mr. Cathy get his suits nowadays?

    • mhleta

Dark grey tights with a little pattern would have been preferable. She looks fantastic, otherwise. Heels on cobblestones? Not for amateurs. This is why she’s queen. Or something.

    • mjude

      they both look so adorable!

    • hero21

Skirt is too short …and the suede shoes looks dingy. She is not a teenager to wear supershort flippy skirts to events!!!On the plus side- great color and cute jacket…if only the skirt was longer or a pencil.!!

    • sweetlilvoice

Damn…the prince looks good. The wonders of tailoring! Mrs. Cathy is lovely as always.

    • Judy_J

Love the Adam and Eve pose in the first picture!

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/DNWEFT2SVBX5T3NPMROQCT4U2U jennyv

      Mr. Cathy, love it!

    • Pennymac

They are both gorgeous, and can I say OMFG, her hair!!!!!!! LURVE.

    • megohd

She is a beautiful woman and seems like a delight and a class act.

That said, she looks like she’s going to topple over under the weight of her head and hair. Even with a skirt that has some volume, she looks lopsided.

    • formerlyAnon

I LOVE that suit. (hers, I mean)

    • formerlyAnon

He’s looking good, here. Inspires me to speculate that these two could throw the prettiest babies the Windsors have had in generations.

    • http://www.facebook.com/bert.keeter Bert Keeter

Love everything. Her hair is amazing. Texture, color, volume…so refreshing…and it’s all her’s…not an exstension in site!

    • SapphoPoet

I love the suit. I can see how some would think the skirt is a tad short, but it’s nice to see Catherine wearing a youthful length. I think patent leather shoes would have lightened the look a bit, but I’m okay with the suede. Wills looks great.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_2CNDPMVO4W23R5TVC2QMTJ5BZE Heather

      Gorgeous!

What is her last name now? Windsor? Like what does it say on her driver’s license?

      • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

Is she even allowed to drive by herself now?

      • ferngilly

Cambridge…those in line to the throne with a title take the name of the primary title, so she and her husband are William and Catherine Cambridge.  Before he was married, his name was William Wales as he is the son of the Prince of Wales.  Harry is Henry Wales, but in the event that he is designated with a title (if he wants one), he will change to that…so, for example, if he is the Duke of Birthday Suit, he might get the surname Henry Birthday Suit.  Those who don’t have titles but who are born from the male line of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip are Mountbatten-Windsor…not Edinburgh.  I don’t have a clue as to what the Queen and her husband’s last names are.   (It’s so confusing…why I know this, I know not).

    • Anathema_Device

Whew. I was worried what I was going to see when I read the word “Nip” in the headline. I thought there was another royal scandal brewing. I’m such a perv.

Love this suit on Mrs. Cathy. The color is to die for. Don’t mind the shoes one bit. And the hubby younger and slimmer the minute he puts on a single-breasted suit!

    • rab01

I can’t see his hem that well on my monitor but I can’t see any break at all.  Is that what TLo consider to be properly hemmed?
If so, I didn’t realize they were so against tradition in menswear.

    • librarygrrl64

He looks 20 pounds lighter and 20 years younger. Huzzah!

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_QYNAGYILEHAIYAZP2BEIPGJJIQ Cindy

T&L, what shoes would you have paired with her outfit?  I think they are the most adorable couple.

    • Giustina Pileggi

oh that awkward pun in the tittle.

    • maggiemaybe

He looks better than I’ve ever seen him look and she is perfection, as usual. What can I say, I like the black tights and suede pumps. The important question is how does she get her hair SO SHINY!?

    • Neverbuynewclothes

Erratum:  long ago when I was doing a bit of public speaking, I was taught not to stand with my hands in the position the first picture shows theirs.  It was known as “fig leaf.”  I can’t see this photo without thinking that.

    • Jenna621

I want her hair.  And her coat.  Both are gorgeous.

    • VeryClaire

Daringly short for the Princess, no?  But I like it. I agree the black tights & shoes are rather stark altogether but I guess that’s the look she’s going with. Very cute suit.

    • Allison Woods

The sleeves on the jacket are a whisker too short.

Anyone else want to see some slammin’ BOOTS with this little getup? I totally do!!

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_F73LIJ3SJGI5AJQMXMWXCKILHI Pamela

Hah!  Like she ever eats a carb.  ThankyoubabyJesus for the lovely suit on Wills!  And that’s a great color on her-as for her hair, product and people to DO your hair for appearances are the likely sources.

    • http://www.thirteen.org/insidethirteen Gotham Tomato

I LOVE this suit! Love the silhouette and it’s one of my two favorite colors. If I saw it anywhere on this side of the pond, and I could afford it, I’d buy it in a flash! I think I’d wear it with boots though.

      –GothamTomato

    • Hermione_Granger

I love this to death and would have loved it even more with boots.

    • Rebecca Jay

Ah man!  When I read “nip in the air…” But I guess she’s probably overly aware these days of how cool outdoor air can take one by surprise.

Anyway, “Love your suit.”  – H. Lecter

    • guest2visits

They both look pretty great; William has a nice healthy ‘flush’ or glow to match Cathy’s. And his suit and tie are perfect for him.

    • Sing4yursupper

      That suit is adorable! Stunning!

    • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

I love Cath’s look here!  And getting Billy Boy into a single breasted suit just took about 10 years off of him!

    • butterflysunita

I love Cathy’s outfit.  Beautiful color.

    • siriuslover

She’s so pretty and I adore that color on her!

    • SRQkitten

And the other positive thing about winter coming is that she may retire the nude pumps for a bit.

      srq

    • quiltrx

      They both look pretty fab!

    • ccm800

That color is magic on her.

    • PeaceBang

That’s a silly suit (hers). I hate the cut of the skirt a LOT, plus it’s too short and skimpy as usual.

    • RzYoung

Just how is her hair that shiny!?! Anyway, v cute indeed.

    • Carlos Abreu

yeah, she looks better with her clothes on… i dont know why… but when i see these two together i cant stop thinking about prom … maybe it’s me…

    • Truly_Outrageous

Oh my gosh she looks totally cute.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1208138556 Sara Munoz Munoz

That suit takes 10 years off. Not off his actual age, but off his double-breasted-suit age.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000905542323 Rhonda Shore

flawless.  and i like the black opaque hose with the black shoes.

    • http://twitter.com/AShinyOConnor A Shiny O’Connor

She needs to stop wearing black suede shoes. They photograph terribly unless they are new or in impeccable condition – in Kate’s case you know they’ve been around the block a few dozen times.

    • ferngilly

Navy shoes?  Grey tights?  I think this could have been worked on a bit more.  Also, she blends in with the mahogany surroundings.  So suuuuurious!

    • melanie0866

Super cute.  I would wear that to court.
