Brad Pitt for Interview Magazine

Posted on October 10, 2012

Y’know, we were never really on the Brad Pitt Love Train. Sure, he’s a very good-looking man, but he never really did it for us, in terms of pants-moving.

Still, even we were appalled at how bad he looks here.

Brad Pitt is featured in the October/November 2012 issue of Interview magazine photographed by Steven Klein.

On choosing new roles: “I think I’m at a point now where I feel like I can jump into anything and lay something down that’s quality. Someone may be better at it—or maybe not—but I know that if I have a feeling for it, then I can make it interesting. But even more as I get older, it’s about the company that I keep. That’s the most important thing to me—that if I’m gonna spend however long it takes to make a movie, give up 14 hours a day for however many weeks or months, then it’s very important for me to know that I’m working with people who I respect and enjoy and that we’re going for something together. That’s it, really.”

We suppose that was kind of the point; take the guy whose name is synonymous with “handsome” and ugly him up a bit. We don’t mind the dreads or the long hair or even the rockabilly look – they all suit him –  but the eyeliner is making him look like Liberace.

I’m really really not into in this guy.

And especially not when he’s wearing dreads. Good grief.

  • Joe J

Wow, now I know what it feels like to laugh and throw up at the same time.

    • HomeOfficeGirl

I don’t share your feeling – but damn, that is one funny line!  Joe J FTW today.

  • nomoreprinces

Dunno. I saw him in these earlier and thought to myself, I want to see a movie with each of those characters.   Though the dread look reminds me of 12 monkeys.

    • librarygrrl64

Looks like an exact replica of a Marley photo. I’m assuming that’s what they were going for.

    • mike__tv

      Especially the thin moustache movie!

      • nomoreprinces

YES!  Exactly. That’s the one I’d most want to see.  Would it be
comedic ala Raul Julia as Gomez Addams?  Or just a pretty-posh slapstick
drug lord?  Or something sinister?  I found myself all day yesterday thinking up characters around that look and the sparkly gangster one.

  • famousamy

Maybe Liberace is what he/they was going for there??… not sure.

    • MajorBedhead

I was getting more of a Freddy Mercury vibe from that picture.

      • MinAgain

I’m getting an Ed Wood vibe, myself.

        • leftcoastpickle

          Marlon Brando, the old one

      • kolokOlchik

        OMG, Freddie Mercury, yes!  Absolutely!

      • amariana

I was going to say that the one photo I Iike is the Freddy Mercury in ironic cabana boy suit – the one with the little moustache. But the rest, and on the whole, no.

        • mbelchic

I’m telling you, it’s Rudolph Valentino-

          • quiltrx

I was thinking John Gilbert, but we’re definitely on the same wavelength!

          • Mary Stone

Nope, not even close to Rudy.  Too douchetastic

    • Tara Melissa

With that stache, all I can see is John Waters.

      • quiltrx

You say that like it’s a bad thing. :)

        • MoHub

           Bad for John Waters.

    • Vitantonio D’Ambrosio

So I guess I’m the only one who immediately thought “Gomez Addams”…

  • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

Is anyone else getting a “Corky St. Clair” vibe in the first 3 pictures?

    • Alyssa T. Robot

       yes and yes!

    • Kiltdntiltd

Oh my gawd. You nailed it!

    • quiltrx

      Nah, not enough blush!

  • mmgk

Oh.  He looks like Mickey Rourke.  Scary.

  • Clueless_Jock

  • StellaZafella

I wouldn’t hit any of this, but it’s interesting to me how well he gets – and holds – the character in each pic.

    • Derek_anny

This.  Each picture is a character.  He can’t escape being Brad Pitt, but they all look like someone different.

  • clevRcat

    Liberace!  Snorting out loud!

  • WendyD

The eye patch picture looks NOTHING like him in anyway. I’m not entirely convinced it is even him.

  • YoungSally

    There’s a “studio” for eyepatches?

    • MajorBedhead

      Right? Jesus.

    • AthenaJ

Their only customers are pirates (of course), Elle from the Kill Bill movies, and now… Brad Pitt!

      • charlotte

Guybrush Threepwood of course. And that one-eyed woman from Twin Peaks.

        • ChiliP

Guybrush Threepwood! The actor who does the voice work (Dominic Armato) has an excellent food blog called Skillet Doux, just in case you have any interest in food/cooking. He used to write really thorough Top Chef recaps rankings, but I don’t see them on his blog anymore.

        • librarygrrl64

And Ellen Greene from Pushing Daisies.

      • Shannon Stewart

Or people with eye muscle problems who have to wear them to strength the weak side to prevent serious eye turn issues.

        • AthenaJ

Not telling me anything I don’t already know – I had to wear one when I was a kid due to lazy eye.

      • YoungSally

        Pirates are so 2008.

  • PinkLemon

the pic with the bow tie just screams to me ‘chyes, chyes dahlink. zis is goot.’……………..dunno why.

  • zelavie

Brad Pitt, you are no Johnny Depp.

(and even Johnny Depp is getting a bit old for that look…  but don’t tell him I said so)

    • Shannon Stewart

Johnny Depp will never be too old for that look, because it’s so authentically him.

      • formerlyAnon

Though it won’t always look as good on him as it did when he was young & pretty. ‘Tis the natural order.

        • Shannon Stewart

Yeah, but no matter how old he gets, there will always be something vaguely hot about someone who is willing to say, “fuck it, I like it.”

          • formerlyAnon

Absolutely true. Especially if they were hot to start with.

  • blogless

Yes, it’s the eyeliner that makes this actually disturbing.

Like an effeminate old outlaw biker.

    • VicksieDo

      Effeminate?  He’s extremely masculine IMO.

  • lisaepc

he looks like he needs a bath…I am way over him looking scruffy.

    • AthenaJ

It worked when he was younger, but now he’s bordering onto crazy old homeless man territory.

  • gabbilevy

Welp, you can’t say this is a boring actor-tries-to-model editorial. This is an actor being an actor. It’s not beautiful, in the conventional sense, but it is interesting. It is full of character. I like it.

    • call_me_schmeg

we could at least give snaps for showing his actual skin texture instead of photoshopping it all away.

      • dress_up_doll

Snaps for that for reals! They didn’t even bother to smooth out the carbuncles or zits or anything.

      • lbl

I’d be even more impressed if they’d done that for a woman.

  • Gabriella M

Did they accidentally use spackle instead of makeup for these pictures? Terrible.

    • Michelle Cunningham

Brad Pitt (according to a friend in the industry) has exceptionally bad skin.  To the point where in photo shoots they’ve actually had to use scar wax to fill in his acne scars.  So yes, if you count that, they might possibly have spackled him.  They have to.

  • ZnSD

lol he reminds me of “Heinz, the Baron Kraus von Espy” from Intolerable Cruelty. “She wanted a silly man!” Ridiculous.

  • Larkin21

Other than the gun, I like the picture with the gun.

    • tereliz

That one might be my favorite. LOVE that Armani jacket. But that’s the one that’s giving me the most “Franco” vibe, actually.

    • Apocalipstick Now Redux

That looks like a still from an “edgy” original recipe 90210 episode.

  • Janet B

This group of photos me laugh out loud.  Is that what they’re after here?

  • Kiltdntiltd

He’s giving off relentlessly douchey vibes, all OVER the place here. Not loving on this editorial at all.

    • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

I always get those vibes from him.  Never could understand his appeal.  And the only movie role I ever liked him in was “Inglorious Basterds”.

      • Shannon Stewart

He did a hell of a job as Billy Beane, though Beane was never that pretty. Enough to make me love the movie even though it was the A’s… god, I hate the A’s….

      • Kiltdntiltd

12 Monkeys, for me, but only cause boyo has one mighty fine ass.

        • Shannon Stewart

I always liked him as an actor far more than I liked him physically — just really not my type.  A little too moodily self-aware.  But a woman who has spent virtually her entire life in love with Robert Downey Jr. (not an exaggeration in the slightest on either count, trust me.) I never get to comment on others’ taste…

        • kimmeister

His abs are literally the only thing I remember about Thelma and Louise (well, besides that they drove off a cliff at the end).

    • rainwood1

      You’re right.  He shows a great range . . . of doucheyness.

  • marlie

He so does NOT do it for me. These are all just “meh,” plus, it looks like he’s wearing too much makeup, AND the short hair with the eye patch looks like a toupee.

  • Nicholas

    Dear Brad Pitt,

The only person who can pull this shit off is Mickey Rourke.

    You are not Mickey Rourke.

  • charlotte

Hilarious! And I’m so interested in the “Michelle Dockery by Elisabeth Moss” thing. Lady Mary and Peggy Olson- that’s quite a combo!

  • Denise Alden

Does Chanel No. 5 know about this?  Cause it looks like he stinks.

  • Kate4queen

I actually thought it was interesting to see how different he can look in each shot. But that might just be me. :)

  • Jennifer Peters-Ahnberg

I’ve just never gotten the love for him. And here, he’s scary. And not in a good, tingly way. In a serious WTF? way.

  • Rand Ortega

    Night light for me tonight.

  • NC_Meg

I literally burst out laughing at the picture with the dreads.

  • SpcilK

Such a character. He’s is always committed to the parts he plays.

  • Shannon Stewart

I hate the dreads, but I generally do — especially on a white guy whose pinkie finger earns more in a year than I do.  You’re not some hippie, man, you make way too much.

  • Eclectic Mayhem

That last shot looks like he’s being ‘The Dude’

“Hey, careful, man, there’s a beverage here!”

  • schadenfreudelicious

i don’t think this is what Coco had in mind for the new face of Chanel No5…

    • Erika Schultze

If this is the new face of Chanel No5 I’m happier than ever that I chose J’Adore. Brad Pitt as Bob Marley, angry gun-toting Liberace and a lesser form of The Dude or the fucking fierceness of Charlize Theron swathed in gold while interacting with stars of the past due to movie magic? No contest for me.

  • sleah_in_norcal

i’m curious about how they shot these pics.  did they start with him all scruffy facial hair and then shave/trim it in increments for various looks?  or is all the facial hair artificial (doesn’t look like it, and scruffy does seem to be his default look.)  if they took it all off for the clean shaven shots, they did him a favor.

  • tallgirl1204

This layout expresses what I’ve always thought about him:  he’s a character actor in a leading man’s body/face.  Gorgeous doesn’t do it for me– but every one of these photos shouts at me:  “I have a story to tell– and it is not going to be what you expect.”

    • Ali

He really is! I think he doesn’t get enough credit sometimes, because of his good looks (which I think have faded somewhat). Now that he’s older, people see it more. He’s always been a great character actor, I think.

    • VicksieDo

He’s really one of this generation’s best actors.  He and Robert Downey Jr. fill that role for me.

  • Aj/Melia

    He looks like Gomez Adams!

    • foodycatAlicia

I was thinking John Waters, but same thing really!

  • PaperPusher2

No one has ever rocked guyliner like Nick Rhodes of Duran Duran.  Or even lipstick.

  • nycfan

You guys must not have seen Kalifornia.

  • Kathryn

Love everything about him and the pics.

  • sashaychante

Old stoner homeless man…that’s all I see with BP

  • Presumptuous Insect

  • mhleta

I’ve always thought Pitt never really cared about being Mr. Handsome Man but has always been more interested in being a really great character actor. As far as the national obsession with his marriage–that I never got.

    • Snailstsichr

He does seem to go out of his way to not look attractive.

  • tereliz

Eh. He looks more like James Franco here than himself. Stoned, slacker James Franco, not hipster James Franco.

  • mhleta

Scratch this comment. It was supposed to go elsewhere and got bounced to the top of the page. I can’t seem to delete. Carry on.

  • Rebecca Jay

I never could stand this DB.  And he’s a bad, one-note actor.

Completely overrated in looks and “talent.”

  • korilian

Awesome! It’s so random and weird. I love it!

  • Anathema_Device

I actually like Brad Pitt as an actor, but not in a pants-moving way. I like that he has played a good range of characters over the years. (His character in Burn After Reading SLAYED me.) This editorial is beyond silly, though.

    • Shannon Stewart

I couldn’t get into that movie at all, but I agree with the sentiment.

    • MilaXX

I only found him pretty in one movie, but I liked him in a few; 12 Monkey’s The Mexican and the Ocean’s 11 movies.

  • NCDFan

  • formerlyAnon

I’m not a Brad Pitt fan, so take with a grain of salt:

He should SUE whoever advised him to do this shoot/reviewed the agreement or contract/reassured him that he looked great.

  • sherrietee

He never did it for me either, so you’re not alone.

  • Judy_J

Yuck.  But then I haven’t really liked him since Thelma and Louise.

  • Ali

I rarely find him attractive, but I love this editorial. (Not that I find him attractive in it). It’s not really even an editorial – more of a portrait gallery of characters. I would love to know the stories behind each photo. They intrigue me. I find them all really compelling.

  • GroovyKitty

Haha! These are the dumbest photos I’ve seen in a while. What’s with all the eye makeup? I’m not into this guy either but even I will admit he can look very handsome when done up right. Here he just looks like a clown.

  • msdamselfly

    Love the dreads pic

  • Maya KC

It looks like he’s doing some sort of weird Johnny Depp retrospective.

  • RocknRollmom

My impression is that Brad has never taken himself too seriously.  Hence this layout.  I agree with the character actor comments.  Yes, he looks douchey in these pics, but I think that is what he went for.  He was never my “type” but I respect the hell out of him.  I will give him this editorial and treat it as a joke/advertisement for future movie roles.

  • Myra C

Lucky Jennifer Aniston. She totally dodged a bullet.

  • Jeff Warhurst

I really like this spread.  Obviously, the eyeliner is meant to invoke Rudy Valentino, and it works.

  • MilaXX

Is this the Halloween issue? This looks bad, as in cheesy bad. Then again the only time I found hm beautiful was as Tristan in Legends of the Fall through It.

    • Pamela

He was Tristan in “Legends of the Fall”.  And GORgeous!

      • MilaXX

        woops. I’ll correct.

  • SapphoPoet

He never did it for me, either. And all these pictures just look sleazy.

  • l_c_ann

Angelina has much to answer for, and I’ll lay this on her.  What games HAS she been playing with his mind?

    • lesmaha

      my thought exactly!!

  • kimmeister

    What in the Sam hill?!?

His moustache on the cover doesn’t even look like hair, it looks like they randomly stuck moss on his lip.

    • PaulaBerman

       I thought it was intentional.

  • nannypoo

He’s icky even when he’s clean. These are disgusting.

  • minnye

I like it. At least he’s smizing and not hanging around a vintage gas station. He seems to have a sense of humor about himself and the business.

  • Amye

I have a suspicion he’s gonna be a Robert Redford.  Very masculine pretty younger, than ages worse than Joan Rivers after the surgeries.

    • Shannon Stewart

Where I think Redford looks much better now — he was so blandly WASP when he was younger.  Now he has character and interest in  his face.

  • mbelchic

I thought he was channelling Rudolph Valentino-He looks like a Vegas lounge singer-Or pimp-

  • Paige Boerman

What the fuck? I love me some Brad Pitt, but these are trying their best to kill my lady boner.

  • PaulaBerman

I have to respectfully disagree. I love it that Brad Pitt actually looks his age. He doesn’t look like he’s had a bunch of work. He is 48 and and he is wearing it well. He also has always been someone who is not afraid of looking ugly: Kalifornia, Twelve Monkeys, Fight Club. He’s a beautiful man who is not afraid to let his face take a beating. As you may have guessed, I still <3 him bigtime.

  • LittleKarnak

Never have liked him but he really looks haggard….

  • DesertRodent

That’s not haggard, my dear. That’s old.

  • Michelle Cunningham

Mad props to the hairstylist on this shoot.

  • Trisha26

Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous – and I LOVE the eyeliner.

  • DesertRodent

This might be the male equivalent of the effort Cameron Diaz was making with her Creeper Richardson shoot. They are both aging superstars, both have to be worried about losing their youthful mojo, and both seem to think that an edgy photo shoot might restore some of the street-cred luster that younger people have so much of that they can piss it away. The only difference is that, being a guy, he doesn’t have to venture as far as does a woman, into sleazy photoshoot territory, to make his point.

  • Heather

  • Lisa

Truly, I’ve always wanted to hit that, ever since “Thelma And Louise”, and these don’t change anything.  I like all the different looks, because one of the things I’ve always respected about him is that he’s not afraid to ugly himself up for a role. He’s always been okay with being a bit of a chameleon, which I love about him.

  • AnnPopovic

Really? Oh I love this! LOVE it! He’s still fundamentally beautiful, and if you…okay, maybe not. But if I saw any of these versions of this guy on the street, I would stare, and follow him for a few blocks, and I’d watch. The very top and very   bottom ones remind me of so many homeless men I’ve seen; if you stop to look for a minute you can see shades of the beauty that was warn away, and that always hits me in the heart. No, I think I would see this guy on the street and want to know his story.

  • rumcg66

I’ve never been a fan, never got the fuss at all, but man, any trace of hotness was sucked out of him soon after he hooked up with Angelina “the preying mantis” Jolie.

  • ccm800

LOVE Brad – rough and pretty in equal portions. Dreads are ridiculous but the eyepatch shot is swoon worthy

  • BigWhiteGrannyPanties

I really liked this spread.  I think he looks interesting and, like any good actor, like completely different people.  Sometimes I want to hate him but honestly, when I watch him act, he’s really quite wonderful.  In a weird way, it’s like he’s acting in these photos, not posing.

  • Glam Dixie

Classic case of Not Aging Well. This whole thing just looks gross.

  • sk8tfan

The eyeliner makes him look like Salvadore Dali. And he has spent years undermining his own looks. I don’t get the point-nature will eventually take care of the handsome problem for him; why rush it?

  • Louise Bryan

The Tom Ford getup made me think Gomez Addams.

  • guest2visits

    I can recognize that he is indeed a very handsome guy, and he is a very good actor;
but I never thought of him – that way – the way millions of his fans do.
I like that he can be whatever character he likes, so convincingly. And I like these pics. too.
He was awesome as an Irish gypsy for Guy Ritchie’s film, ‘Snatch’.

  • quiltrx

I guess I’m alone here, but I think he looks VERY hot in the shot with the gun.

And I actually kind of like the shot with the eyeliner…serving up a little John Gilbert!

  • librarygrrl64

Those pretty boys don’t age well, do they?

  • aristida_girl

I like it, but then I have always had a thing for the scruffy types… i like that he does scruffy so well… I loved him in snatch, and think he is a fun actor…

  • TSkot

We should all look so bad.

  • RzYoung

I’m not into him either, just does not do it for me either aesthetically or with his ‘acting’

  • Eva_baby

Circa Thelma & Louise/Legends of the Fall, i thought he was all kinds of hot.

Circa Oceans 11,  I thought he was charming and funny.

Circa Angelina Jolie I thought he was a bit of a douche.

Circa last year’s interview where he blamed Jen for his own wandering penis, I thought he was a major dick.

    Circa this…yeah don’t really care.

  • Krysta

It’s weirding me out that in the eyeliner picture, he has a really skinny mustache.  There’s a disturbing visual equivalency between the mustache and the eyeliner: it makes it look like he has mustaches under his eyes!!

  • PeggyOC

He’s never done it for me, looks-wise, but I was really shocked and disappointing (because it meant I couldn’t hate on him) to find the guy can really act.  If you look at this not as a fashion shoot, but rather as a set of character sketches, it’s fairly interesting work.

  • mozzer0906

    Horrific photos.  egads.

  • n a

I love it- I mean I’ve never been all a-swoon for Brad Pitt but I do think he’s naturally good looking and these photos show he doesn’t take himself too seriously. To me it’s funny how he could be any one of these guys.  I also love that he’s looking weather beaten and is NOT messing with his face. refreshing.

  • VicksieDo

Oh I beg to differ!  He’s FABULOUS in every way. Sigh

  • Dot

These are some of the stupidest looking photos I’ve ever seen. I’ve always been apathetic toward Brad Pitt, but these photos make me hate him.

  • AnnaleighBelle

I will always love and respect him even though his looks were never my taste, so nothing in this shoot horrifies me.  I just think he’s generally wonderful.

  • j_anson

I mind the dreads. I mind them a lot.

  • nancylee61

Ugh. Really. Looks like he has been hanging around with Angelina too long, whose name is synonymous with SKANKY in my book. Dreads? No. Filthy, dirty looking? No. Eyeliner. No.

Go away, Brad and Angie. Please.

  • Jean Albus

    Liberace schmiberace, he’s devastatingly gorgeous.

  • Beverly Nash

Beg to differ. Versatile and hot, in that order.

  • Sara Padilla

I have a bad feeling that that laddered sweater costs more than my monthly car payment.

  • iheartbuffy

    they get increasingly creepy/more hilarious

  • EEKstl

WTF?  FYI, Brad never moved my pants either; the fact that I’m female is only one of the reasons.

  • mike__tv

I love that john waters-esk picture. It made me crack up. I think these pictures are supposed to be funny and weird, and they are.

  • judybrowni

I was a young woman in the ’80s and the Brad humpiness was damn real.

Howsumever, scraggy beard Brad in recent years has been deeply discouraging, as is his gomez addams as cater waiter bartender, and blackface rasta brad.

The rest of the above might make for a particularly dirty but memorable shame-based one-night stand.

  • kikisayshi

    No. Just no.

  • PrunellaV

When did Brad Pitt turn into Willem Dafoe? Not that there’s anything wrong with that.

  • Zippypie

Ew.  I feel like I need a shower.  Just ew.

  • andreawey

is this a joke? he looks like an idiot…..

  • bitterk

I prefer this Brad Pitt to the uber blonde robot of the 90s.  He’s got some age, experience and weariness on him and I like it.  Makes for a far more interesting face.

  • NoFun Angie

Last pic is very Nick Cave
