Bella Heathcote in Gucci

Posted on October 26, 2012

Hypothesis: Once we plant “Lee Press-On Nails” in your head, you won’t be able to see anything else.

Bella Heathcote attends the 16th Annual Hollywood Film Awards Gala Presented by the Los Angeles Times in Gucci.

Results: ?

Conclusion: We’re sorry to do that, because it’s a pretty dress, but once you think of it as the fingernail dress, it’s all over.

Gosh, you’re not kidding. Or fish scales.

    •  Totally agree with fish scales

      • MoHub

Fish scales for me as well. Just wondering what kind of fish they come from.

        • MilaXX

something from Finding Nemo or The Little Mermaid.

          • j_anson

            Definitely the Little Mermaid.

        • Rainbow Fish’s friend Rosie. But I don’t expect anyone to get that unless they have young children. 🙂

          • MoHub

Sorry. My “kid” is 35 and hasn’t provided any grandchildren yet, so I’m totally out of touch with kid culture.

      • Yep, scales! Gross!

    • decormaven

      Not fish, snake scale.

  • DAMN IT.

It’s very Ariel having tea with King Triton.

  • TieDye64

You guys nailed it (sorry) and you’re right, I can’t unsee it.

  • HomeOfficeGirl

Bet it sounds fun with she walks tho… swoosh, swoosh, swoosh………

    •  I imagine it sounding like Dolly Parton playing “9 to 5” on her nails…

  • karena10

I had tried Lee Press-on Nails in the past and they always fell off.  Now I have a picture in my head of this dress shedding and looking half bald.

    • Full of lint, hair, crumbs and whatever other crap got stuck to that sticky shit that did not work. So gross.

  • Lattis

‘Your Jedi mind tricks will not work on me boy

  • actually, i was thinking: Chloe Dao Garden Party Challenge Dress

  • mjude

    damn you!

  • StellaZafella

    I get Lavender Budgerigar (Parakeet)

  • Janet B

    Thanks, a lot.

  • SewingSiren

The dress was made from  the hide of a princess fairy dragon. And you know it!

    • TLo & Everyone else – I appreciate your clever twists of words.

    • mjude

      even better 🙂

    • j_anson

      Yes, this.

  • I was thinking flower petals, or scale mail (that’s for all your history/ D&D nerds out there).

    • MoHub

      Pink Samurai armor?

  • Clueless_Jock

Yes but I like the dress anyway.

  • ringthing

you guys are on a roll today, every post has cracked me up including this one…helps that it’s finally Friday

  • mellbell

Despite your best efforts, to me the petals (or whatever the dressmaker would call them) most resemble madeleine cakes. That plus the very soft color makes me think of something rather sweet and delicate.

  • I hate her shoes. SO MUCH.

  • snarkykitten

  • MilaXX

I don’t like any of this. Hate the dress, hate the hair, hair the makeup and hate the shoes.
…….and now that you mention it, it does look like fake nails.

    • Yes to this, and also:  HATE the illusion netting.

  • How many purple dragonflies gave their lives for that dress?

  • Dang, looks like everyone’s sporting those fay bangs.

  • It also reminds me of those lamps on Pinterest made by gluing plastic spoons to a lantern. I still like the dress though.

  • BrooklynBomber

    Damn. It worked.

  • I was getting more of an Esther-William’s-bathing-cap vibe from it, but I can see the fake nails thing, too.

  • Bill Curtis

  • NCDFan

    dyed snakeskin

  • bookish

God now it’s giving me the heebie-jeebies just looking at it. At least her hair and makeup look really pretty.

  • Tatiana Luján

What I think of when I see this dress is “fish scales”. And I like it.

  • Set the fingernail dress free so it can go strangle Taylor Swift.  It’s twee enough for her.

  • Aw. And this was looking like a WERQ to me too.

  • Imasewsure

That’s the prettiest I’ve seen her look though… weird dress but I like it on her

  • another_laura

    BWAH!!  Thanks, guys.

  • Monabel

    I still like it…

  • Trisha26

Beautiful dress and she’s so fresh & pretty. Hate those shoes though.

  • nannypoo

Hate the scales and hate the color.

  • LOL. still like the dress. but her hair has looked better in the past (or is this another starlet im thinking of?) and i dont love the shoes.

    • Agreed! Her bedhead/Cocker Spaniel hair is really distracting me from how nice the dress could look on her, and the shoes seem a little too dark: if there was some bling or lighter colors interspersed with the grey beads, I would’ve liked it much more.

  • I’m thinking Big Bird’s cousing “Petite Parakeet”

  • kmk05

    Cannot… unsee…. press-on nails… THE HORROR.

  • formerlyAnon

Yes, but Sewing Siren’s princess fairy dragon trumps the nails & the fish scales.

It’s almost a pretty dress, but I don’t like either the illusion netting or the shoes, and they somehow reinforce the miasma of tawdry plasticity raised by the Lee press on nails reference.

  • margaret meyers

    Sugared petals?

  • I see fish scales or petrified feathers more than press-on-fingernails. But I love this – I think it’s adorable on her! And the shoes are just right, though the clutch is a tad too matchy.

  • quiltrx

I kind of love it.  And I also kind of hope it makes a “tsh, tsh” sound when she walks and all those paillettes (is that the right word, I think?) knock together.

And I definitely go with the “Esther Williams Bathing Cap” allusion.

  • I was thinking moulting bird but fingernails does the trick

  • MissAnnieRN

This would totally win the unconventional materials challenge, Duane Reade edition!  I can’t wait for someone to make a Lee Press on Nail dress.

  • It reminds me of molded soaps you see in old lady’s houses, usually on some sort of pedestal dish on top of a lace doily on top of a toilet-tank carpet on top of butterfly wallpaper on top of pink tile on top of chintz drapes.

  • Patricia Gillett

    Big Bird/Disney Princess mashup.

  • Roxanne Pedro

I was thinking it looks more like she skinned Falcor from the NeverEnding Story.  He was the best luck dragon around, he didn’t deserve that.

  • miagain

Wonder if it makes a clickity clack sound when she moves??

  • Dhammadina

    Lavendar elf skin flakes.

  • ellabob

thank you – made laugh out loud…press on nails indeed

  • ccm800

I dig it just the same

  • guest2visits

This dress should be prettier – but it kind of looks like a cheap plastic toy, something from years and years ago but I can’t quite
place, was it a pool toy… something from the bubblegum machine.. I can’t recall.
Both the color and the striations on the ‘scales’ look very cheapy.  It reminds me of a girl’s swim-cap from the 50s-60s, too.
Not liking the shoes with it either, sorry.

  • I was thinking Atrayu the dragon from neverending story

  • briecee

No, hypothesis disproven.  This is clearly that Pinterest thing, with the layers of plastic cutlery.

  • GorgeousThings

    Oh, you are evil! 🙂

  • RzYoung

    Ewe! Nails!
Aside from that though I consistently love her eye make up. Plus she looks so good with a fringe, great dollface

  • Nah, she still looks like an adorable flower fairy.

  • lizajane1776

Nope. Feathers! And I love the shoes.

  • Bwin51

    Swim away. Lol
