AnnaSophia Robb in Emilio Pucci

Posted on October 23, 2012

Be honest, now. Who’s going to watch that Sex and the City prequel, The Carrie Diaries on the CW? It’s the internet. No one will judge you.

AnnaSophia Robb attends the premiere of ‘The Carrie Diaries’ during the 2012 New York Television Film Festival in NYC in an Emilio Pucci metallic dress paired with with an Edie Parker clutch and Sergio Rossi shoes.

We’re so obviously not the demographic for the show but we think morbid curiosity will force us to check it out eventually.

Anyway, she looks cute enough. It’s a bit on the grownup side of things, but the gold keeps it sassy. Should’ve picked a more youthful shoe. Ironically, this whole getup looks like something Samantha Jones would have worn.

We saw her all over Fashion Week in New York last month, but couldn’t place who she was the first couple of times. It clicked after we both almost knocked her over in a crowded tent. “Oh, right. Baby Carrie.” You see, we have to run smack into celebrities before we can determine who they are. It’s why we don’t have any celebrity friends.

  • My what big eyes she has! (sorry, first thought that came to mind)  She looks cute, a little mature for her age, but still cute.

    • NC_Meg

Yes! I got to the end and realized I had no clue what she was wearing because I just stared at her eyes. (That sounds so creepy.)

      • I’m sorry AnnaSophia.  I kept thinking how much you remind me of Lindsay Lohan.  BTW, who forgot to put the space between your first two names on the birth certificate?

      •  I did the same thing, except with the pic of the clutch, that’s adorable.  She reminds me of the photoshopped models with the extra large eyes.

  • Judy_J

Very cute.  She’s got beautiful eyes.

  • All I can see is disco-era Samantha, now!

  • mountainFashionista

I wouldn’t have recognized her, either.

Prioritizing time over tact here: Has she had “work” done? Google images say maybe so.

    • tereliz

Or perhaps a growth spurt? Maybe she just lost her baby fat. She’s not even twenty and she looks just like she did as Violet Beauregard and Leslie from Bridge to Terabithia, so I’m disinclined to believe she got a nose job.

      • Imasewsure

I didn’t recognize her but I agree, same face, just different age

    • SignLadyB

Knowing her family (a little anyway) I would say no work based on several things (genetics, and just general beliefs). The family as a whole has made it very clear that they support her but also remain very much a part of her life decisions.

      • mountainFashionista

Wow, that’s lovely & refreshing to hear!

  • Sobaika

I’ll probably watch it one night accompanied by a tub of ice cream and/or cocktails, prepared to point and laugh. That is my ritual with most CW shows, but I just recently got into Teen Wolf so I’m in no position to get judgy.

    She looks cute, if boring.

    • RebeccaKW

I’m embarrassed to admit, I want to watch The Cult.

    • kschwarting

I kinda like to watch “Hart of Dixie” on Hulu while washing dishes.  (Cowers in shame).

  • MilaXX

I dunno about the movie. I may wait until it hits TV. She looks pretty cute here. Not ground breaking, but okay

  • I have no idea what’s appropriate for the kiddies anymore. She gets wins for not wearing anything sheer or crotch-revealing, but I think the clutch is more me – something a bit more playful would have been good.

  • She’s pretty, but she has enormous eyes. She kinda looks like a doll (as in a toy).

    • I’m not sure she looks much like a young Carrie to me, but whatever.  I love her eyebrows as well as her eyes.

Your “doll” comment reminded me of a personal story that still makes me smile.  I have a small face but a somewhat large nose – not big enough for me to ever want to do anything to make it smaller, but my mother used to bug me about getting a nose job (she had divorced my dad, whose genes were responsible for that nose).  But one day she repeated her comment in front of some friends, who were appalled and said, no, I would lose the personality in my face and just look like a little doll.  That was the last comment my mother ever made about my nose.   So, maybe I could have looked like a brunette AnnaSophia. 😀

      •  You would have been beautiful, though I’m certain that you are anyway!

  • Janet B

Peep-toe shoes don’t seem young to me, am I wrong?

  • Haha I’ll always think of her as Samantha in that American Girl TV movie.

    • LeBarron

Heh.  Me too.  Even if I’m way too old to have seen it.

    • librarygrrl64

That was her? Brunette wig, I guess?

  • Very pretty eyes….how does one get eyebrows like that?  (Other than being very young.)

Hope the show is successful; a family friend is a member of the cast.

    • hyperionic

Like that? I assume it involves an eyebrow comb and brush.

    • kimmeister

I take it you like that look in eyebrows?  They look overly brushed to me.

  • she has like….anime style gigantic eyes

  • rjeujune

No way am I watching this in any shape or form. I never could stand Carrie Bradshaw, I’m certainly not going to watch ‘The Young Years’. She behaved like a 19-year-old at 40. Can you imagine how she’ll behave at 25? Yesh!

  • Go!

At first glance, she reminded me of a younger Lindsey Lohan before the trout pout and drugs. Love AnnaSophia’s makeup here.

  • In_Stitches

My first instinct was to say the look is too mature for her, but were an older woman wearing it, I would have had other complaints.  Maybe it’s the somewhat business silhouette?  But for the gold, which can read old if not employed well, it is a fairly stuffy look. Not loving the thick black waist band either; it cheapens the look.

And her as Carrie?  Couldn’t they have gotten someone with a nose?  I mean, you always hope they cast the best actor who can best embody the role, but why does that always seem to be the most beautiful people?  I’d say I hope she does justice to the character, but as someone who won’t be watching, I can’t be bothered to care.

    • curiouserandcuriousest

I feel like the length of the skirt is contributing to the businessy silhouette. I’d like it as a pencil skirt, I think – it would have been more playful. Really, though, this is the premiere of her new tv show, and she should have gone for something with more wow-factor.

  • SignLadyB

I’ll probably watch at least the first but only ‘cuz I know her grandma and my grandson is nuts about her. I’ve followed her since Winn Dixie. Never ever watched Sex in the City.

  • kschwarting

That second photo is totally Kewpie doll.  Seriously.

  • kittenwithaquip

I’ve come to believe I’m the only woman on Earth who HATES “Sex in the City”, so there’s no way in Hell I’ll watch a baby Carrie SITC retread. For some reason this outfit makes me think of Jane Seymour, which is not a good comparison any young woman wants to hear when she’s in her 20s.

    •  Seriously, Carrie was despicable and selfish but she was meant to be seen as who we want to emulate

      • DTLAFamilies

When the show first started Carrie was portrayed as more of a cautionary tale and the storylines were more evenly balanced among the women. But when SJP became an executive producer of the show, it became the Carrie Show, with the other women shoved into the background and Carrie becoming the Ideal Woman. The first movie went even further with that scene of Samantha feeding Carrie (and given the animosity between those two actresses, I saw it as a complete fuck you to Kim Cattrall). So even though I loved the show for a few years, not going to tune in for the prequel, nope.

Not to be totally mean, but is it at all credible that this woman ages into SJP? Really?

        • michelle shields

Don’t feel bad. I have never had any desire to watch it.

    • AutumnInNY

I agree. Carrie Bradshaw was one of the most narcissistic female characters in televison history. Nothing to emulate there girls. The fact that any prequel or sequel is being done or will ever be done again is pretty nauseating.

  • shanna bowie

I’m still bitter she didn’t play Annabeth in the Percy Jackson movie so I’m holding some bitterness. But Baby Carrie is looking a bit Samantha-esque here.

  • dramamajor

Just curious, will you guys be recapping Drag Race? Curious to hear you TLO has to say about THAT

  • butterflysunita

She seems too conventionally pretty to be Carrie. But maybe this Carrie is completely different.

  • Ali

She looks more Amanda Seyfriend-ish than SJP-ish.

  • elirt

I just read “The Carrie Diaries” book and was pleasantly surprised by how decent it was – far better than the Terry McMillian book I just finished, who is given way too much credit as a writer (her book was terrible! I won’t name which it was…). You get a sense of what makes Carrie who she is, which I didn’t expect at all. I’m now curious to see how it works on a series.

  • onefifteen

    She looks like Cat Marnell

  • Is it just me or does the gold with the red bejeweled clutch look too “holiday party” for this time of year?

  • LesYeuxHiboux

I will absolutely be adding that show to my super-secret Hulu rotation, if only for the clothes (Gossip Girl has really been dropping the ball in that department lately).

Her outfit is a little 80s Christmas party, no?

  • miagain

She looks like Lindsey Lohan, if she hadn’t turned into Lindsey Lohan…

  • julnyes

Not a fan of SITC or CW shows so I’ll give this show a pass (I’m so far outside the target demographic I’m sure it won’t be an issue!)

  • formerlyAnon

She’s so young and pretty she could look good in (almost) anything. I’m not a huge fan of shiny gold garments, but she looks dressed up and lovely and not remotely trampy, so I think it’s all fantastic.

Will only watch the show if I stumble upon it channel flipping and get sucked in. Never was drawn into Sex and the City somehow, (have seen only a few episodes all the way through), so have no reason to seek it out.

    • MilaXX

Just found out Freema Agyeman is in it. I love her so I’m in.

  • I still need to see the original Sex and the City (as a 1990 baby, I was too young for it when it was on tv). I like cities. I like sex. I like fashion. So perhaps I’d enjoy it?

    • DeGuz

amazing show. you would love it.

    • twocee

I’ve wondered if SaTC would seem dated now, especially if you’d never seen it when it was on.  If you ever watch it, you should give TBKs a review 🙂

      • TBKs? What’s that?

        • AthenaJ

          The Bitter Kittens

          • Ah! Yes, I will give my opinion as a 90s child if/most likely when I watch SatC.

    • AthenaJ

I went from thinking I’d hate the show to owning every SATC episode, plus the movies. You have to suspend some disbelief, like a lowly article writer somehow living in a fabulous NYC apartment and owning designer clothes (though mention is made of Carrie’s credit card debt), and how 4 women can have tons of sex with strangers and somehow never get an STD, but other than that it really is an entertaining show and you do get invested in the characters and feel for them.  And considering the fact that styles from previous decades just keep on coming back, I don’t think the fashion will be too horribly outdated.

      • twocee

I would think that the age of the viewer would play a part too.  I was in my mid to late 20s when I watched them (and loved them).  Watching them on re-run as a late 30-something, I find it much harder to relate to alot of the stories and to suspend my disbelief about the lifestyles.

  • guest2visits

She’s very pretty, but the whole outfit from earrings to shoes is not very flattering. I swear my Barbie had this same dress
and shoes, maybe even the clutch some 40 years ago and Barbie’s dress didn’t look this cheapy.

    • PinkLemon

       gold lame’. GOLD LAME’.

  • Won’t watch. I’m not really a CW shows kind of girl but I could watch NBC sitcoms all day long.

  • glennethph

Will there be a mini-Big on that show?  Will she be as infuriating then as she was in the present?

  • As a huge SaTC fan, I feel I’d be betraying the show to watch this teeny-bopper as Carrie, nor is it believable that a girl with those California features could grow up to be Easter European looking Carrie.  Plus Carrie didn’t grow up in New York; she grew up in like Ohio.

    • AthenaJ

YES thank you! AnnaSophia is in no way shape or form Carrie Bradshaw. Carrie may not have been the best feminism had to offer as other BK’s have stated, but she was at least interesting and enertaining. I’m sorry, but this girl looks like every other generic young actress running around LA: an anime character with big eyes and lil’ button nose – completely forgettable… not even close to SJP.

  • Mary229

She is such a pretty girl with such a doll like quality. And that’s part of what bothers me with this casting.

Part of the point of the series and of Bradshaw was that she was not the beauty queen. She was striking and fashionable but she was “one of us.”. She was not the perfect featured blond with the perfect nose and hair.

It actively bothers me that the CW felt so threatened by who Carrie truly is that they seemingly went out of their way to change that message for their intended audience.

I wish this woman no ill-will and she’s adorable here. The outfit is a bit mature but I like it. But…yeah.

  • DeTrop

Yikes!  I thought this was an ‘early’ picture of Lindsey Lohan.  I remember how beautiful LL was and it makes me sad.
AnnaSofia is a very lovely looking young lady.

  • Susan Crawford

She is so pretty! Those eyes are amazing. I think the dress skews a tad mature for her, but she is working it. LOVE the red clutch – a wonderful little accessory for this look. Shoes – just meh, but OK. But pretty? Yes, indeed. The make-up is flawless and not layered on with a trowel – kudos to her team!

I never got into the whole “Sex and the City” thing first time out, so I doubt I’ll tune in for the prequel, or whatever this is. But no matter, because I’ll bet AnnaSophia will be around for a while.

  • tessasouthworth

She looks like the daughter of Lindsay Lohan & Carrie Underwood.

  • pop_top

LOL at “it’s the internet, no one will judge you,” because EVERYONE will judge you.
And I just kept staring at her eyes.

  • Cathy S

The only part of this outfit I like is the clutch, which is really cute. She also has amazing eyes. I won’t be watching this, but then, I didn’t watch the grown-up version either.

  • I just love how this tiny doll is supposed to grow up to SJP. Like. Who? Who did that casting?

  • sashaychante

Maybe I’m in a minority, but I can’t stand Carrie Bradshaw or Sex in the City.  So, no, I will not watch.

  • melanie0866

She makes me sad, because she reminds me of Lindsay Lohan, before she ruined herself.

  • LuluinLaLa

She looks like a mini Jane Krakowski.

  • Samantha Irene

You’re right, this is so much a Samantha look that I’m no curious to see who could be playing Samantha…

  • la_lala

“It’s the internet. No one will judge you.”

    I will.

  • pokokpuding

“It’s the Internet. No one will judge you.”

  • librarygrrl64

No interest. I loved the original SATC series, especially seasons 1-4, but was disappointed in the first movie and disappointed in myself for going to see the second one. Let the franchise die already.

  • B_C_J

Pretty young woman in a dress that reads “prom” and “cheap” and definitely boring.

  • ccm800

Better nice up Amanda Sigfried – turns out you are 100 percent replaceable.
