2012 LACMA Art + Film Gala Red Carpet

Posted on October 29, 2012

Darlings, Gucci sponsored the 2012 LACMA Art + Film Gala in Los Angeles, so pretty much everybody wore Prada! Okay, no. Almost everyone wore Gucci. Let’s do a Quick n’ Bitchy rundown.

As a reminder, “Quick n’ Bitchy” will be the name of our pancake mix brand, once we start accepting the big endorsements.

Hit it, Guccians!

Amber Heard

That is a whole hell of a lot of neckline. It almost works, because the dress is so simple. Almost.

Amber Valetta

 K-Mart bedspread.

Amy Adams

NOT YOUR COLOR. Still, it’s a sharp look.

Bella Heathcote

 Virgin, with an edge.

China Chow

 That’s pretty hot.

Chris Evans

 A disgrace to your genes.

Evan Rachel Wood

 Gorgeous. Don’t love the shoes.

Florence Welch

It’s a bit too Beverly Sills, but at least it’s striking and colorful.

Ginnifer Goodwin and Josh Dallas

She tries for edgy once again. And fails once again. She looks like some form of drag bird. He is, as always, bland as oatmeal.

Jane Fonda

Rocking the ladypants! The gloves are a step too far, but we kinda dig this. It’s nice to see her look stylish and comfortable rather than cinched into a skintight gown.

Jennifer Morrison in Reem Acra

Girl, those cutouts are not your friends.

Jeremy Renner

Credit for trying something different but he looks like he should be parking cars.

Kerry Washington

Girl, that’s not your color. Or collar, even.

Robert Pattinson

We can smell him from here. And it ain’t pretty.

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley

Gorgeous. Shutting it the fuck down.

Salma Hayek

The dress is pretty, but the hair is tragic.

  • Love Jane Fonda’s outfit, and that she wore flats!

  • ChaCha_70

Holy crap. Rosie Huntington-Whiteley is perfect. That color! Her face and body! Perfection.

    • kimmeister

How does that dress even stay in place?!  (Lots of tape, I guess.)

      • Yup, boob tape.

      • I’m a straight woman, and if I were that dress I would never want to let go. She is gorgeous.

  • Pattinson did some shaving! I feel like he saw me shaking my fist and yelling at him last week, and therefore though he still needs much improvement, I will give him a hard candy.

  • M_E_S

Once again, Robert Pattinson looks like a foot.  Never change, RPattz.  Never change.

  • homofascist

How RH-W’s dress isn’t a wrinkled mess is beyond me.  She must have been driven there standing up…

    • Introspective

You took the words right out of my thoughts. I assumed the bitch floated there she looks so fucking fierce…

      • homofascist

If I were dating that fine ass man I would probably float everywhere too…

  • Jessi03

Every time I see RPatz, I inwardly scream “YOU LOOK HOMELESS!”  I would start “Of Course”ing him, but it’s more upsetting than hilarious for some reason.

    • 3boysful

I find it so ironic that he so badly wants to rock that casual/I-am-above-all-this attitude with the year-round No-Shave-November, yet there clearly is a good amount of product in that hair, the artfully disheveled look of which clearly took some doing.

  • ERW hasn’t been out much lately.

I feel like lady fashion is getting a bit more interesting at the moment. A lot of stuff isn’t working but generally the stylists seem to be giving some different things a go. The very high Victorian/80s collars but done in weird pointy fabrics need to die a death though.

    • curiouserandcuriousest

I was so happy to see ERW. I’ve missed her!

  • Ceur

China Chow is a pretty hot mess. And Rosie’s face is so punchable.

    • Kristin McNamara

I’ll say. You can see through her skirt….. at least, I can see belly button and panties. Not classy.

      • It’s opaque enough that I don’t think it’s on purpose, so i feel bad for her.

  • pippitypup

China Chow looks like something from SlutProm 2012.

  • HomeOfficeGirl

Huh… not loving much here.  Even with Rosie – yes, she has the body to pull off wearing a column of cloth with the illusion that there are not even body parts under it.  But, that is a lot of sea green!!

  • Sobaika

    Evan. Rachel. Wood.

She is looks much perfect, I’ll even deal with the shoes.

    • I liked ERW’s dress, but thought there should have been a way to do it without the illusion netting.

  • Laura Nisi

Someone please get Rosie a sandwich.

  • Monday1900

I’m getting a distinct Planet of the Apes vibe from Jane Fonda. Not good.

  • It takes real talent to make Amber Valetta look that bad. This collection is striking but basically unwearable.

    • decormaven

Preach it! That fabric is hiddy.

    • kschwarting

And I feel like that hair is making her look like a pinhead.

  • *bows down to Rosie*
Amber Valetta should NEVER wear her hair back like that.

  • ChiliP

Good gracious, what is it with Robert Pattinson’s red carpet facial expressions? Why does he look like he just spotted someone egging his car? I think he’s a nice enough dresser for the most part, but I usually can’t concentrate on his clothes when he makes such distracting (if somewhat hilarious) faces.

    • When I was alone as a kid, I used to jut my lower jaw out so my lower teeth were in front of my upper teeth in a vain attempt to correct an overbite. He looks like I did with my forced underbite.

    • RebeccaKW

I was trying to figure out what he reminded me of…and I figured it out.  A Muppet.  Like one of the Two Headed Monsters.

  • pattyw

Take another look at China Chow’s torso and tell me you don’t see a face. Wearing sunglasses.

    • BrooklynBomber

What the fuck, China Chow????  I definitely see a face. And, also, I see London, I see France.

  • kimmeister

I guess Gucci must also have a line of triple-strap peeptoe Mary Janes.

Ewwww, China Chow’s dress is completely sheer too?  As if the top weren’t showing enough?

  • Amber Heard looks like a character out of the Stargate TV series…any of them..so do Bella Heathcoate and China Chow! Oh and Kerry Washington.

  • MilaXX

That highly detailed neckline works on Amber Heard and Bella Heathcote, but looks terrible in satin on Kerry Washington.
I actually like Florence Welsh’s look for a change.
Rose Huntington-Whiteley is shutting it down.
    China Chow looks slutty
Jennifer Morrison’s cut outs make her look wide
    Love Jane Fonda’s look
Amy Adams look would have worked if her hair was darker.
Salma is wearing old lady hair
Evan Rachel Wood looks too pale for all that particular shade of gold and the shoes are kinda of granny looking.
I hate that fabric on Amber Valetta’s dress
Ginnifer Godwin needs to learn to edit, she does indeed look like a drag version of black swan
None of the guys are even worth mentioning individually

    • Tatiana Luján

I agree with everything you said, specially with the comment about Amy Adams.

  • Trisha26

Amber Heard & Evan Rachel Wood get my vote. The rest…

  • Contralto

Amber sure is rockin’ the fivehead.

  • Jennifer Coleman

Well, this is quite the batch of looks!
Amber’s boob proscenium troubles me, lots of ill-conceived color choices and junked-up collars and shoulders. For once I like Flo’s old-lady outfit a lot, but Rosie is the undisputed winner in my book. China gets big props for making the fold-down, see-thu gown almost work. Salma should throw away all her nude lipstick and 3/4 of her hairpins. Why does Pattison always look like that?Oh, poor, poor, Jeremy.

    • neeva

Poor Jeremy indeed. He looks like he’s going to bust out the Gangam Style dance any second now.

    • Lori

Is it just me or does that outfit make Jeremy Renner look like Captain Von Trapp?

      Just me then?

  • snarkykitten

China Chow looks like her dress is falling apart. And her eye makeup makes her look like she’s got pink eye

  • Good lord, I’ve never wanted to slap RPatz’s face as much as I do right now.

China Chow looks like a hooker and Amber Valetta’s dress looks like it’s eating her. Or growing on her. It’s hideous.

  • mjude

bowing to jane. she just cant do no wrong for me.

  • Vera L-

Evan Rachel Wood – I can’t stand her but she looks wonderful here.
I get the feeling CHINA CHOW would fit in my pocket. Love her.

  • Tatiana Luján

    I loved Amber Heard’s look.

    • B_C_J

       I agree. I think it’s very sophisticated.

  • mmc2315

    Hilarious, boys!

  • decormaven

Ladystars, if you’re going to wear black, please get a mani/pedi with some color, please. Ginnifer’s look is so drab; her feet almost look like mannequin feet without polish. Creepy!

  • StellaZafella

Atta girl Jane Fuckin’ Fonda! In FLATS no less, hee, hee!

I’m convinced now, I wanna see Bella Heathcote and Amanda Seyfried as the girls of St. Trinian’s. Alan Cummings can play the traditional dual role of the School’s Head Mistress and her seedy brother.

  • B_C_J

Ms. Huntington-Whiteley is a vision.  Then again she is a model wearing a dress that only a model can wear. Nonetheless, perfection has to be acknowledged and here she looks perfect.

Ms. Valetta’s gown is simply tragic.  It is a ruffled sack that is adding weight and years to an otherwise lovely woman. This is most definitely NOT her dress.

Amy Adams’ dress is simple and beautiful. However, the color is not the best for her and I have a big issue with dresses whose hems are way too long. It looks absolutely ridiculous. I understand that most of these gowns are loaned but if a temporary hem is out of the question, then the dress is out of the question.

Ms. Goodwin’s outfit looks quite striking and beautiful to me. I wish I could see more of the top given that she is standing in a 3/4 pose.  The feathered skirt looks exquisite and she looks exotic and refined. Her simple, short hair is perfect for a visually complicated look.

Ms. Hayek has achieved a miracle. She is a petite, voluptuous woman and yet here she looks tall and column-like.  The dress fits beautifully.  The hair is not my favorite but it is not so terrible as to be a deal breaker.

Ms. Morrison should have returned that outfit and selected something else. The cutouts are not flattering and the silhouette is not great.  Her hair and makeup, however, look very pretty.

Ms. Chow is to be commended because she ALWAYS takes chances and therefore makes it interesting for the rest of us. However, I am not sure about this dress. The top reads a bit like a bathing suit and the draping on the side is unusual. However, she stands out without a doubt.

    •  I thought the same thing about Gennifer Goodwin’s skirt.  That is gorgeous.  The top seems a little busy, but it’s just so hard to tell from that angle.

    •  I forgot to add to my post that I loved Ginnifer Goodwin’s look as well. There’s something really beautiful about that skirt, and I think she’s pulling it off.

  • Pants_are_a_must

Oh, Gucci. Editing is not a bad word. Why isn’t it a bad word? THIS WHOLE RED CARPET. The only person who looks good also looks like she’s been puked on by a satin dragon.

    • random_poster

Exactly.  When everyone is wearing your designs and most of them are OUT doesn’t that tell you something?  It’s like an episode of Project Runway where the judges have to choose a winner out of a roomful of bad design.

  • kschwarting

Rosie may be the clear winner, but I am loving Jane Fonda’s confidence.  She’s comfortable and looks good–and she knows it.

  • newleaf1

Amber Heard is about to walk like an Egyptian…

  • JulieTy

Why does Amber Valetta have a Queen Elizabeth I hairline?? WHY???

  • There’s a shit ton of tragic hair on that carpet. And what happened to Amber Valetta’s forehead? It looks to be receding and the makeup is two different colors? Oh laws. It’s like Telly Savalas used the wrong Maybelline Fit Me color.

Rosie for the win. I do love Amy Adams’ hair, though. I always take a picture from this here web site to my colorist and say “give me that.”

  • Watts

Love you forever for the dead-on Beverly Sills reference.

  • kayleymaybe

Man, this is reminding me how much I don’t like Gucci.  If celebrities can’t make it work 9 times out of 10, what’s the point?

  • China’s dress is… er… showing off the good china.  So to speak.  A little too see-through, honey.

    • MilaXX

       a little?

  • BrooklynBomber

I really like the 3 collar dresses, though for some reason not one of the 3 wearing them (Kerry, Bella, Amber), looks quite right.

  • hughman

Florence Welch is teetering on Lea Michele/”of course” territory to me. She always has this Maid Marian vibe to her dresses which might be her thing but c’mon.

    • kcarb1025

Scrolling quickly, I thought she was Endora!

  • Who would have thought that Amber Valetta’s dress would make her look thick around the middle. SO unflattering.

I kind of like Amy Adams’ dress on her. I love the color, even though it’s not the best for her.

China Chow’s dress is completely see-through. I can see her underwear.

Evan Rachel Wood and Florence Welch both look great.

I saw Jennifer Morrison’s dress elsewhere, and it actually has some pretty interesting details on the back. I kind of like it.

    • cleverlady

China Chow:   AND HER NAVEL…. really….

  • glennethph

China Chow’s dress looks like a reject from Princess Aura’s wardrobe in Flash Gordon (the Sam J. Jones version).

    • editrixie

I was thinking it belonged more to the spoof Flesh Gordon.

  • another_laura

From my desk, it’s a metric ton of WTF on this red carpet.

  • theblondette

WHY on earth, as winter approaches and everyone’s skin becomes pastier, has that shade of yellow (and the gross pink we’ve seen on ladycelebs lately) become popular? Why????

  • Salma here is wearing $1 million dollar earrings with that…hair.  China Chow, I don’t feel like I should be able to see her belly button. RHW reminds us-I’m a model, bow down. Cus not even Ariel could pull that dress off as well.

  • filmcricket

Salma wins this round by a country mile. Pardon the mixed metaphor.

  • Mary Saucier

Jeremy Renner = Captain Von Trapp.   I suspect he’ll be belting out ‘Edelweiss’ any second now.

  • wisenhar

I’d like to see China Chow and Kerry Washington swap dresses.

  • Judy_S

What’s with the heavy, plastic-jeweled yokes and collars? Yuck.

  • Judy_J

Amy Adams: not only not your color, but also needs hemming.  China Chow: not just visible panty lines, but visible panties.  When are these people going to learn that sheer black becomes see-through in bright lights?

  • Andrew Schroeder

Didn’t Beyonce wear China Chow’s dress in the Countdown video?

  • Oh Ginnifer, why must you always try so hard!

  • oohsparkley!

I think Ginnifer looks good in this side shot. It might be a different story straight-on. Florence looks fab.

  • KuriousKat

Agree on all but Josh Dallas (he’s hot!) and China Chow: her dress is falling off and she’s standing there with her bra exposed – not classy. Rosie Huntington Whitely: styled to perfection.

  • Call me Bee

Jane Fonda and Rosie H-W tie for the win.  Disagree on China Chow–bra dress = tacky.

  • guest2visits

Amber and Rosie for the win, imo.  Also think Kerry’s coral pink looks very pretty – but alot of these pics are taken from a bad
angle, fuzzy too. Bella’s has such a beautifully worked neck and shoulder area, but the rest seems unfitted or too short.
Amy’s and Evan’s look ok, if out of focas. Salma looks dated in this (the hair did it); as does Jane.. the only think I like are her
gloves. And her attitude.    Florence’s dress is her – but the color is granny to me. I have a feeling Ginnifer’s top needed to be
edited; it all looks very busy. Hate Jennifer and China’s cutouts; Amber’s bedspread and China’s comic-con-frock are the worst.

  • Where has ERW been???

  • I think Chris Evans looks pretty sharp (despite the leather(?) lapels/tie). Not a neckbeard in sight!

  • m0r0

Love love love! the Beverly Sills reference. It’s been too long since I’ve heard the last one!

  • librarygrrl64

Re: China Chow, really? I think it’s very unflattering on her.

  • turtleemily

    Hey, no neck beard!

I can’t take China Chow seriously now that I know she was in Frankenfish.

Chris Evans beat all the other guys… I’m hugely biased, though. 🙂

  • RHW is gorgeous beyond anything even remotely imaginable. Chris Evans, step up your game, you’ve already lost my fandom by taking back an ex who (allegedly) really hurt you. Shame on you.

  • melanie0866

“China Chow” sounds like a horribly racist made-up name from an old movie, and that outfit is AWFUL.

  • RocknLox

Jane Fonda looks like the fourth musketeer.

  • Orange Girl

RHW SitFD!  She’s like a breath of fresh air.  Haven’t been enough WERQs and SitFDs lately!

  • quiltrx

Yay, an ERW sighting!  That dress looks great on her (I’m with you on the shoes, though).
And for Flo, I don’t think there’s such a thing as TOO Beverly Sills.  That color is awesome on her!
And I love Jane’s ladypants look.  She looks chic and sophisticated…which is how ladypants should look, not like they were a copout from dressing nice.  And I really like those shoes.

  • Caroline Harper

it’s time for ginnifer goodwin to start smiling, for pete’s sake! she reminds me of my friend who won’t smile because years of bulimia wrecked her teeth.

  • Two things: China Chow’s face is saying “Don’t even comment- we all know I look great.” Second, Jane Fonda’s gloves caused me to do a double take “WHERE ARE FONDA’S HANDS???”

  • valettas dress is shockingly bad.

chows bust made me lol, and while its nice of her to bring some laughter in my life, its really not good from a style perspective.

hated welchs look at first, but actually, this is kind of great.

dallas: jock-next-door cuteness. not acceptable for the red carpet, though.

i dont know why, but i cant stand fonda. and im usually pro-crazy-grandma.

    huntington-whitley: WERQ!

  • Anathema_Device

Can’t wait to make some of your BitchQuick biscuits!

I think Chow looks ridiculous. I surprised myself by liking Goodwin’s dress. Yes, it is slightly ridiculous but kind of in a fun way.

  • BPlease

China Chow! looks amazing.  The lady’s got taste.

Ginnifer Goodwin and the tool holding her hand make my slapping hand itch something fierce in every photo.  She has the snottiest resting face ever.

  • NCDFan

Man I really hate that the only outfit I actually liked was worn by Jane Fonda who has been on my list of stars who will keep me from watching a movie list for decades. Rosie Huntington-Whitely looked fabulous but that dress on anyone else would not have looked nearly so good. Amy Adams’ dress would have been good in a different color and Salma Hayek’s dress was good but the rest were enh.

  • Diana Martinez

Does Chow not own a full length mirror? You can see her underwear!

  • Jellybish

Salma’s hair is like Sarah Palin Goes to the Prom.

  • judybrowni

Robert Pattison (or whowever it’s spelled): Still sporting the deranged squirrel face.

  • alwaysanswerb

I LOVE Amber Heard’s look here. Call me contrary!
