WERQ: Keira Knightley in Elie Saab

Posted on September 09, 2012

Darlings, while we put our feet up in our hotel room and take a break from fashion shows (and work on posts about said fashion shows), why don’t you gaze at Keira, who is WERQing the shit out of an Elie Saab gown?

Keira Knightley attends the premiere of ‘Anna Karenina’ during the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival in a Elie Saab couture gown.

Elie Saab Fall 2012 Couture Collection

It was the hair flip that really did it for us. We’re suckers for a masterful hair flip.

Eeeehhhhh. I dunno. I don’t actually think it fits her all that well.

      • alyce1213

        ? Where ?

        • j_anson

The bodice and waist, I guess? It’s less a specific thing and more an overall impression. Kiera Knightly should look slim and elegant; to me this makes her look thin and boxy. It’s not that she looks terrible, just that to me it’s not a WERQ.

        • j_anson

To put it another way, it’s hard for me to call something a WERQ when the model just looks way better in it.

          • Lori

I don’t think the bodice fits Keira as well as it fits the model. However, the skirt situation seems to be working better for Keira and on balance the fit issues bothers me less than what’s going on with the model’s crotch. There’s something going on with the sheerness and whatever is under it that makes the model look like a Barbie doll, in the sense of being made of plastic and having no genitals. That’s just all kinds of wrong. (As is the fact that I actually typed that sentence.) I love Ellie Saab, but this sheer skirt crap has got to stop. How many times have we looked at otherwise lovely dresses and seen something horrific going on in the lady area because of some craziness with a sheer skirt? Enough already.

            • j_anson

I think I can see what you mean with the model, but it doesn’t really bother me. Different tastes, I suppose. :)

            • MikeVR

It’s only sheer on the model, though. Keira’s wearing something underneath.

            • Anne At Large

And that is why I prefer Keira’s, fit notwithstanding. Girl got a lining in there and it bothers me So Much Less that way.

            • Kristin McNamara

See, and here I was thinking that the female model’s crotch included something decidedly more male, anatomically-speaking. Funny you saw an absence, and I saw a distinct…….. non-absence. haha

            • Lori

Oh, man. Now I can’t unsee that, which makes the problem even worse. Lining is our friend people. Seriously.

    • HarperSmith

      Chills. She looks STUNNING.

    • alyce1213

Overall, only a werq (lower case), because I’m not crazy about this particular lace and sequins effect, which borders on cheesy. I’m so tired of see-through.Nonetheless, the dress suits her and she’s smiling pretty.

      • sk8tfan

Wait, didn’t Gunnar almost get auf’d for a black lace and sequin outfit? Obviously his big fail was in not having Keira model it for him. She’s selling it.

    • http://www.twitter.com/allforusophia AllForUSophia

Gorgeous! Nothing else to say really. :)

      • Beth Gardner

Obviously – look at the sour woman behind her wishing she looked that good!

      • Sobaika

It really is! Just the perfect combination of romantic and edgy, suits Keira to a T.

I can imagine her walking in slow motion while everyone stared at her. You WERQ that hairflip, lady!

    • Zippypie

It would be a complete WERQ if her hair wasn’t hanging over her eye in the first place.  That being said, love the dress and makeup and this hair color is perfect.

    • http://twitter.com/BookcaseHat Emily

I have my doubts about Keira as Anna Karenina, but this is definitely the dress to wear on the red carpet when you’re starring as a tragic Russian heroine. A+.

      • carolynmo

I was just thinking much the same thing! I’m not crazy about yet another Anna Karenina remake, but she does look gorgeous in the trailer.

      • Laylalola

I was at the movies just yesterday and saw the trailer. I have to say, I hadn’t been planning on seeing Anna Karenina at all — but she’s changed my mind, she runs the gamut of emotions here. Edited to add: As for the red carpet look, I personally can’t imagine picking an Elie Saab piece and going for black instead of one of the to-die-for fabulous colors.

    • Warmheartedgirl Seattle

      fabulous.  As usual.

    • NC_Meg

I have absolutely nowhere to wear that gown but I’d like it if it got in my closet right.now. She looks perfect.

    • TonyGo

Pretty, overall.  The sequin design on the bodice is a little wonky across the breasts…I see Mickey Mouse ears.  And can’t unsee them.

    • Trisha26

It seems a little baggy (big?) on her. Then again she makes me stabby, on screen or off, so ignore me.

    • Neverbuynewclothes

Now that I see it, I can’t get over the brass buckle on Keira’s little belt.  It is of the small details that an image is made.  to me the belt looks like something she usually wears with her J. Crew cords, not with a lace and sequin evening gown.

i noticed it too, but i think the contrast works, actually.

    • Vaniljekjeks

The redheaded woman behind her in the first photo appears to be in the middle of a “GUUUURRRRL” head to toe gaze.

Keira Knightley is a beautiful woman in the old school sense.  She can be edgy or elegant all without taking herself too seriously.  That said, I don’t love this dress- that mouse ears comment is all too true.  When Michael from S2 tried to make a cleavage chasm look sexy and failed, I hoped that all designers would take notice.  But Keira looks beautiful regardless.

    • aristida_girl

She looks great! Glad you guys are taking a wee break, but working hard for us kittens! hope you have a lovely Sunday…

    • http://twitter.com/Alloyjane Alloy Jane

      Utterly glorious.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Helio-Trope/100000175140677 Helio Trope

I get that lace with a high neckline and that lace-panty-crotch-bra thing is now in, but I still don’t consider it aesthetically pleasing.

    • Laylalola

Love Elie Saab, but this is kind of just droopy/hanging.

    • quiltrx

That really is an amazing gown.  J’adore Elie Saab!

(and my unreasoning hate leads me to point out that her hair is very half-ass.  At least she’s keeping the puckering and squinting to a minimum.)

    • http://kingderella.tumblr.com/ kingderella

this is not a werq for me. shes wearing the dress well, she looks good… just not spectacular. i guess i just dont particularly like this dress. the ‘gap’ between her boobs is odd.
hair & make up are lovely.

      • Carrieanno

        What boobs?

    • http://twitter.com/LianaBrooks Liana Brooks

Can I be her when I grow up?

    • http://twitter.com/m0llyharrington Molly Harrington ⚓

Jesus, it’s like she has NO pores.

      I’m incredibly jealous.

    • margaret meyers

Her makeup always looks great.  So fresh and finished, but never heavy looking.

    • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

I was gonna say, “The hair flip is awesome!”  Again, just like the other day, she looks AMAZING!

    • MilaXX

Just when I think I’m completely fed up with sheer dresses, someone like Ms. Knightly here reminds us of how pretty the look can be.

    • Pants_are_a_must

And she even wears a slip under the dress, instead of granny pants and a bra! IT’S A MIRACLE!

Now I’m waiting for ALL the other female stars right now to follow suit.

    • pepper76

Beautiful and she’s not doing the pout! WERQ just for that alone.

    • http://fray.slate.com/discuss/forums/3945/ShowForum.aspx nancykelley

      Her skin! Like porcelain!

    • Susan Crawford

Is it just me, or is there an uncanny resemblance between Miss Knightley and the Saab runway model? Separated at birth???

    • jmorino08

      Perfection. And she knows it!

    • Anathema_Device

She looks really amazing. Her makeup is really good, too. This is the kind of nude lip I like: soft but not freakishly flesh-toned.

    • TieDye64

Gorgeous! There’s not enough makeup in the world to make my skin look that good. *sigh*

    • http://twitter.com/katshimmers Kat Wright

I was there – she looked stunning! STUNNING!

    • http://twitter.com/BrienneCalmer Brienne Calmer

      She is class on toast.

    • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

Love it. Lover everything about it (and her)!

    • EEKstl

      Black lace done right.  Stunning.

    • http://twitter.com/kerrymccombs Kerry McCombs

      Fucking flawless face.

    • guest2visits

This is pretty and I imagine it moved beautifully when walking. Glad Keira didn’t need the transparent skirt of the model’s.
Liked the little floral dress in the background too!

    • Kate4queen

I’m not that keen on the dress. I keep seeing black veins-possibly because I was looking at Halloween costumes with my daughter over the weekend.

    • marilyn

Black lace with sheeer skirt over granny panties.  Boring.  Ugly.

    • luciaphile

She looks fab, but she’s still on my irrational celeb hate list…

    • http://asskickingadviser.com/ Ass Kicking Adviser

She looks great and all but I hate that dress. ick.

    • Blondage

The hair flip made me like it. :)

    • RzYoung

She looks excellent but I feel like I’ve seen this dress so many times before.
