WERQ: Kate Hudson in Alexander McQueen

Posted on September 10, 2012

We must be in a “washed out blondes” kinda mood, because we seem to be handing out the WERQs to them left and right.

Kate Hudson attends the premiere of ‘The Reluctant Fundamentalist’ during the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival a dress, shoes and clutch by Alexander McQueen paired with Tiffany & Co. jewelry.

And sure, the face is driving right up to the border of Drag Town and leaving the motor running, but the look overall is so stunning that we can’t quibble over things like under-eye concealer right now. Girl looks kickass and she knows it. If that’s not WERQing it, then what is, darlings?

Agree.  But sexy silver sandals would have been the icing on the cake, so to speak.

By the way, how do you guys race around from show to taxi to show to whatever… and still manage to assign werqs?? The mind boggles.

      • NC_Meg

I know, right?! I always expect a little slow down during fashion week but it seems like they’ve been posting more than usual! (Not complaining, just wondering how on earth you’re doing it!)

      • Sobaika

Ooooo yes, silver shoes – or at least different shoes – would have bumped it into a more emphatic WERQ.

        • mshesterp

I like that–a more EMPHATIC werq.  I agree.  The whites almost don’t match, and oddly enough pull focus for me. Something silvery and delicate would have been 100% WERQ–this is just at 92%.  But still an A!

    • ConnieBV

I don’t see it, sorry. The hair is greasy, the makeup is slapped on with a trowel and the sleeves are overlong. She needs a bra and for Christ sakes, she’s the size of my pinkie and the dress makes her look thick. As David Tutera would say, “Diamond white is NOT her color.”

    • understateddiva

I can’t deny that she looks stunning, but another part of me is saying, “Oh, Kate Hudson in a white dress.  What a surprise.”

    • http://twitter.com/janedonuts Jane Donuts

She looks amazing. I had my makeup “professionally” done by some idiot at the Bobbi Brown counter for the party I had when I turned 30, and though it looked right in person, it looked totally ridiculous in pictures – out of control concealer. I looked like I had white moons under my eyes instead of the dark ones I was trying to erase. Not that her people shouldn’t be aware of these concerns, just sayin’. I feel for a lady.

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_2CNDPMVO4W23R5TVC2QMTJ5BZE Heather

Sometimes if you use that ‘reflective’ concealer it looks really weird in photographs, esp taken with a flash.

      • MilaXX

its the makeup. In this high def society some makeup looks greats in person, but awful in stills or crappy on video. the light particles in many of the formulas will sometime reflect against camera flashes and make you look crazy. It’s also why some celebs look so shiny in pictures. Many bronzers or cosmetics designed to give you a dew-y glow make you look greasy in pictures.

        • sweetestsith

Ah, that awkward choice between looking dewy and lovely in person (vs. matte and contoured) and or fabulous in photographs. I find it irrationally infuriating!

In between usually works out well enough for plebeians, but it’s hard to find a concealer without shimmery shit in it.

      That hair is anti-WERQ.

    • Miss_Led

This is not a WERQ to me. I think it looks too mature on her.

    • http://twitter.com/TheRealSandraOh Sandra Oh

Charlize would have killed this look.  Kate, not so much.  Sorry.

      • Judih1

        Or Helen Mirren

      • littlemac8

        Or CATE!!!!!

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jessica-TallGirl-Freeman/1043623567 Jessica TallGirl Freeman

I will say her after baby bod is banging in this dress, but its overall too bright white and her make up and hair leave much to be desired.

    • Funkykatt

      How is she not tripping?

    • http://twitter.com/MajorBedhead MajorBedhead

Have they run out of carpeting in Toronto? The hem of that dress is going to be absolutely filthy. (god, I sound like my mother. Someone slap me.)

      It’s nice but I don’t know if it’s WERQ.

ETA: Her butt looks amazing in that dress, though.

      • Introspective

I was thinking the same!!! hating that she’s dressed for 5th ave, but looks like she’s walking down 8th ave. like just below port authority.

jesus be a kick ass dry cleaner for that hem. but the dress is totally fab.

    • Scarlet39

Not a WERQ for me.  The hair is stringy, makeup is overdone, and I think I’m having a visceral reaction to the shoes.

    • rawrgrowlrawr

I think this gets a werq, lowercase. On first look she looks stunning, but the dress gives the impression of a bedazzled autopsy and her hair needs help. I don’t think her makeup looks that bad, but I tend to have a poor eye when it comes to spotting drag level makeup.

    • IAmJ

She looks beautiful and the dress is killer. I think the shoes were a mistake but overall it’s a striking look.

    • jmorino08

You guys are getting pretty generous with your WERQs lately. Sure, the dress is good and it works for her body, but that hair is just sad and wrong and her makeup doesn’t do anything for her, other than keep her from being washed out by the white dress, and that’s the very least makeup should do for a person under these circumstances. She didn’t earn this WERQ boys… Maybe the tented aired is getting to you?

      • MilaXX

See I could argue for Kristin’s work. She has good hair & makeup going on to help the dress along. Here the only nice things are the dress/bag.

    • bellafigura1

HATE the shoe, ruins the look. Heavy mega-coverage dress plus that big shoe, NO.

      • MilaXX

THIS so hard. That shoe brings the look down so much. It’s a great dress & a great bag bookended by bad makeup and even worse footwear. Not even close to a WERQ in my book.

    • Kristin McNamara

Those shoulders are awesome. Love the whole look.

    • MilaXX

Not a WERQ for me. Hair – bad, makeup -bad. Dress – nice, bag  – nice, shoe – awful. So basically only 2 out of 5 elements are correct here.

      • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

Yup, I agree with you.  This is not a WERQ for me, gentlemen!  Dress is okay, but she really does look washed out.  Her hair looks like she just showered and combed it back, the makeup is tragic.  Just not good.

        • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1241487378 Lauren Lynch Fox

Agreed. Make up is tragic, aging. Dress, too covered up. Bag…NEED.

    • guest2visits

I like this very much on her, love the simple silver split in the front. I don’t see a problem in her make-up.
I don’t like the shoes for this, too bride-y; maybe silver heels/sandals.

    • VicksieDo

      Dayum!

    • quiltrx

I don’t think SHE looks that particularly fabulous.  That dress and clutch, however….well, they could stand there and cut a bitch all on their own!

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_2CNDPMVO4W23R5TVC2QMTJ5BZE Heather

She’s tiny, yet this thing is tight as a sausage casing on her, and is going to split up the back if she sits down. I can’t give an outfit a WERQ unless you can sit in it.

    • Clueless_Jock

      I think she looks great.

    • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

She looks great! I would have worn different shoes, but that’s a minor quibble.

    • MissMariRose

Either that makeup is really bad or she’s had some work done lately.

      • http://profiles.google.com/gillianholroyd gillian holroyd

Some work done was my first thought. Her face looks longer and narrower somehow.

I’ll bet this outfit looked stunning in person.

    • Anathema_Device

That cluuuuutch! I want it. My precious.

    • nannypoo

Pretty dress. Has she always looked so much like Ellen Barkin?

    • mbelchic

Don’t hate me but I usually reject McQueen-So call me surprised because I love this dress-

    • Lilithcat

She’s going to step on the hem if she’s not careful, and the sleeves are too long, as well.  The shoulders look like they escaped from an old sci-fi movie.

That brass knuckle clutch is just stupid.

      • 1964edithgrove

Saw the clutch in Saks the other day and it looks even more stupid in person…just corny.

    • mbelchic

Yeah, it soooo needs silver shoes-

    • Sweetvegan

What is that mountain of bling on her hand? Is that a bunch of rings? Or one of those giant multi-finger rings? Or is that part of the clutch?

    • Candigirl1968

Was it hot?  The hair and makeup seem to be wilting and melting, respectively.  Love the dress on her, but not feeling the white shoes.

    • Sara__B

The dress fits her beautifully  but the styling makes her look much older than she is. Not a WERQ for me.

    • Blondage

She sure has been looking hot lately.

    • http://www.twitter.com/allforusophia AllForUSophia

She looks good in the dress and the clutch is gorgeous and all, but she could’ve done something with the hair. Am I nitpicking? Probably, but she made the effort to put McQueen on…

    • Deedles

It’s the Eye of Sauron in dress form.

    • Aurumgirl

How sad those white shoes are.

    • m0r0

What the heck is on her hand?

    • http://www.facebook.com/sarchie14 Stephanie Archie

I think she looks fabulous.  I would love a close up of her jewelry though.

    • neofashionista

LOVE! but the clutch is a little mutch, she looks like she could go into battle with chuck norris

    • Judy_J

Gown is just a bit too long, in my opinion.  I bet the edge of that hem was black by the end of the evening.

    • TheOriginalLulu

I don’t know. This is so washed out it’s reminding me of those old polaroids when they started fading after a few years in the drawer and people’s faces disappeared in the picture. The dress is gorgeous and she’s got the bod for it, but the hair is flat, she’s wearing so much blush that her cheeks look dirty, plus it’s the wrong color for her and what’s with the Christmas tree tinsel on her hand?
Nah, I think she’s almost there but not quite.

    • jw_ny

I’m sure this looks so much better in person…flash and white at night just isn’t a good mix.  She looks great from what I can tell..seems to fit her perfectly.  I’m not digging the white pumps tho…metallic or sparkly strappy would have been my preference.

    • kimmeister

I’m just grateful not to see her buttcrack at this point.

    • margaret meyers

white hem meets city sidewalk. >le cringe<

    • EEKstl

“…the face is driving right up to the border of Drag Town and leaving the motor running.”  Thank you, boys.  I needed that.

    • marilyn

The combination of the hair, dress, makeup all make her look older than she is.  She is a gorgeous young woman and should enjoy that while she can.

    • ChelseaNH

I think she looks good, but I’d rather see that dress on SWINTON.  Probably in a color.

    • Tatiana Luján

I like the dress on her, even if she looks a bit like a country singer. This look called for an updo and a different pair of shoes.

    • librarygrrl64

She still does nothing for me. Nothing.

    • raininmai

Kate, pick up your lovely white dress from that filthy concrete!

There. Got it out of my system.   She looks gorgeous, btw.  :-)

    • oohsparkley!

I’m with Tlo and the werq.  Little quibble – looks like she needs a hair trim.

    • leftcoastpickle

I wish this dress were sleeveless.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_F73LIJ3SJGI5AJQMXMWXCKILHI Pamela

She looks great & I’m not seeing drag face.

    • sashaychante

IMO this is a slightly pageant look.  Not loving the dress, and those white platform pumps need to DIE.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Pix-Lee/653502929 Pix Lee

Do not agree! In fact this is a “Girl that’s not your dress”, instead of w a WERQ.   She needed bigger hair for the width of the shoulders, it’s too long or she is too short, take your pick.  It’s Blake Lively’s dress or Cate Blanchet’s dress or Charlize Theron’s dress  or any actress taller than 5’6’s dress.
