WERQ: Emma Watson in J. Mendel

Posted on September 17, 2012

Since we did a little gasp upon first viewing it, and since we can’t – try as we might – find a thing wrong with it, Miss Emma gets the snaps-up treatment for this one:

Emma Watson makes an appearance on the ‘Late Night with Jimmy Fallon’ show to promote her new movie ‘The Perks of Being a Wallflower’ in a J. Mendel dress.

J. Mendel Resort 2013 Collection

Some girls can sit down in a uterus skirt and never look like they’re showing too much skin. Those bitches.

What a fantastic dress for her, though.

  • Adorable!! LOVE!!!

  • jenuwefa

Hair’s a bit iffy, otherwise I love it!

  • A. W.

Her lipstick is mildly distracting but everything else is flawless! Much snaps.

  • My ONLY quibble, however slight, would be the shade of lipstick.  Otherwise she looks absolutely lovely!

  • Ozski

Perfection! So tasteful and colorful and youthful! I have to say though, I miss the Pixie.

    • Sobaika

It’s growing out well though! Girl can’t do awkward if she tried.

And boy did she try. She spent 8 movies trying.

    • Me too!  I’m glad that I’m not the only one.

    • Spicytomato1

Funny, I was thinking how I like seeing it longer for a change. I thought the pixie was a bit too harsh. She looks softer now. Although I don’t think she needs to grow it out too much longer.

      • Glammie

Yep, I’m with you.  Pixies are tough, that soft longer bang helps out a bit, but she’s still got her bit of edge.

      •  She said a lot of films requested she have it longer so unfortunately I think the pixie is kaput. It’s hilarious how awesome it looks now, when it’s mid grow-out.

    • out for a walk

Same here. If it’s any consolation I think she misses it too – something about how she’d keep it forever if she didn’t have to grow it out for roles.

    • NC_Meg

How weird…I totally forgot she ever had a pixie cut. That was ok but I do love her hair long.

  • lilibetp

I think it’s too short to sit in.

    • bookish

I agree with you. But it is an awfully cute dress, and she looks great standing up.

      • Vickiefantastico

It’s adorable, but she’s on a late night show where she’s going to be filmed sitting down, from a side angle. I think it is in poor taste to wear something that short, in this case.

        But she does look fantastic.

        • Love it standing, hate it sitting, love the shoes regardless.

  • PeggyOC

Fantastic dress, but the shoes and the lipstick are the wrong color, and conflicting wrong colors.  Really distracting.  One or the other.

    • Sobaika

Maybe it’s a computer screen thing, or just personal preferences, but I think the lip color and shoe color are amazeballs. I feel like a lot of people would go wrong with that dress’ styling.

      Werq Emma! Love it all.

      •  I love both, too. I think it looks great on her.

      • Sara LaBatt

I love the “word” amazeballs.  It’s an amazeballs word.

  • Perfect!!! Even the lip color is spot on.  I loves me some Emma.

  • GorgeousThings

It’s a perfect look for her age and the event.

  • charlotte

    Isn’t she pretty?

    • Spicytomato1

      So pretty.

  • HomeOfficeGirl

Gotta disagree on this one – a werq??  The entire dress seems small – the small sleeves, the small skirt.  It feels like it is missing the jacket or whatever those layers are on the model.  The color and print aren’t doing much for her skin tone.  The orange lips, the lame hair.  And the red shoes??  Not a werq for me – maybe even an Out the more I look.

    • agentilities

too bad I can’t like your comment twice

    • carpediva

    •  The dress does seem too small.

    • A. W.

I think the jacket would age her too much.

  • dress_up_doll

I love the textile. It makes for a nice transitional floral pattern. You know how you just feel flowery, but not spring/summer flowery? Snaps, girl! You look adorbs!

    • Kristin McNamara

      Like a wallflower? 😉

  • Kyle Crawford

She looks lovely, and her hair grows fast.

  • Oh my god. She is just ridiculously cute. Reee-dic-u-lous-leeeeee.

  • Anathema_Device

I think it is a itsy bit short for a tv interview couch, but overall, she looks amazing.

    • littlemac8

Amazingly, Emma danced with Jimmy Fallon in this dress, including a lift.  I was nervous the whole time but she always appeared covered.  There’s a clip on youtube, my bad for not posting.

      • Anathema_Device

I’ll have to check it out. Dancing, including a lift, in that dress without flashing everyone seems like a pretty impressive feat.

  • alyce1213

A lower case werq: it is a bit short for sitting and her hair is unkempt.
Nonetheless, love it all — the girl, the dress, the shoes, the lips.

  • Squarah

Are we really going to let that hair fly? That’s exactly what my hair looks like right now, but I’m sitting at work in an office. It’s so half assed, which I expect from myself but not from Hollywood stylists.

  • MilaXX

This was a homerun for me as well. Yes it’s short, but you never got the feeling that you were going to get flashes any minute. She was even able to dance and act goofy in that dress. BTW Butter kittens there are .gifs floating around on the internet of those dances that are worth the time it takes to google.

    • Butter Kittens! We love it!

      • MilaXX

I have *got* to learn how to type! 🙂

        • formerlyAnon

Butter Kittens appear at those rare moments when the Kittenry is content and purring, pleased by life’s offerings and themselves.

  • HobbitGirl

The skirt’s a skosh short, but she’s petite so it works. She’s growing up into quite a lovely woman.

  • BeeBeauNYC

She looks great, and I’m glad she’s growing her hair out again! I was over her pixie cut pretty quickly.

  • Did you see the clip of them dancing? HOW did that skirt not bunch up, especially when they did the lift? It must be made of awning material or something.

  • moppet

Man, she is cute. I just wish her hair were..maybe her shoes could be…eh, nah, she’s pretty much perfectly turned out for the venue. Big ups, Emma!

  • ChiKat67

She didn’t just sit down in this, she danced w/Jimmy as well (including a lift!).

  • Spicytomato1

Lovely, head to toe. I think I’d have a problem with the skirt length if the top wasn’t so modest (yet still stylish). It balances things out. It helps that she seems to know how to sit and move in a potentially awkward situation.

  • ChaquitaPhilly

    She’s lovely, absolutely lovely…

  • Also, she danced with him in this dress. Which makes her completely awesome. I just love her.

  • SapphoPoet

I dunno. I know most will love this, but it’s not working for me.The whole dress looks a little small proportionally–sleeves look too tight and the length looks too short. And I find the lip color and shoes very distracting, and wish her hair was smoother. Also, I really dislike the flower pattern, which is odd because usually I really go for those large flower patterns, but these flowers look diseased to me and kinda give me the creeps.

Sigh. But I still love her. She looks so lively and intelligent.

  • Good for her! And love the shoes!

  • Love the print but miss, stand up straight please.

  • LesYeuxHiboux

This is the way to do “all-grown-up” right (while promoting your teen movie).

  • Kayceed

If those are in fact slingbacks with a lowish heel (maybe two inches?) I love this look even more.

    • alyce1213

They look like sling backs (first shot). Such bright girly shoes, but still understated, love them.

  • fashionablylate

A bit short, and I do miss the pixie, but otherwise she looks amazing. LOVE HER.

  • mommyca

  • BazoDee

3 snaps in Z!!! Flawless! She really does have the ability to wear the super short skirt without it looking scandalous. I suspect because it is never overly tight -and her legs go on forever -so super short actually leaves her some room to spare.

  • siriuslover

    really cute!

  • Lilithcat

The dress is really cute, but it seems just a tad bit tight on her, particularly in the sleeves.  And it needs maybe 1″ more in length.

    • Judy_J

I thought the very same thing.

  • kelsita421

    SO pretty! love her.

  • Love it! And she was adorable in the interview, too!

  • Trisha26

    She’s showing too much skin…

  • tallgirl1204

I’m not fond of a lot of seaming with a large print.  Irritates my synapse that also hates un-matched stripes.  But the colors are gorgeous, and she looks confident and happy.  Also, she’s showing a lot of leg, but is quite modest on top so it doesn’t slide over into Lea Michele territory.

  • OMG she looks both lovely AND adorable.

  • Just looking at the dress on the model, I would never have guessed it could look so fun and youthful. Love!

  • PinkLemon

that lip color is hiddy tho

  • Call me Bee

Werq indeed!  Love the dress, but I especially love the shoes!  😉

  • mjude

love her & the look.  ADORABLE

  • ecallaw1977

I am so biased FOR her, that I can’t be objective at all.  I’m not an all-out superfan of the Harry Potter movies (although I did really enjoy them), but she and Daniel Radcliffe just epitomize how I wish every child actor would turn out.  They both seem to be very intelligent and to have such charming and gracious personalities. Plus she is just so dang cute.  Good on her.

  • marilyn

The skirt is too short.  It looks a little trashy on her when she is walking, and potentially obscene when she is sitting.  If the girl isn’t going to (faux) tan, she needs to wear softer colors.  She looks very pasty and sicky here (which is not a summer look).

My complaint with the dress:  Unmatched print at the seams.  Is this supposed to be an expensive dress?  Why didn’t the designer match the print at the seams?  This puts it on the discount rack, or makes it mediocre home sewing to me.

    • ojosazules

I felt the same way about the seams, but thought maybe it was old fashioned of me? There are quite a few seams, but maybe the one down the middle, at least?

    • l_c_ann

I can’t even figure out how many inches for the repeat on that pattern.  That leads me to think that matching at major seams was found to be impossible because the images in the print are so big, and the repeat so long.  So, IMO, they went with an intentional mismatch, cutting the pieces so that it would be dark blue next to massive pattern where it was visible, and then they used the very thin piping (Maybe from a white version of the same print) at every seam to up the “lux” factor.

I like the idea of the dress and the way they used a huge print without it coming off sofa-ish.

  • quiltrx

Really cute dress, and it’s just right for her.

  • Larkin21

Wow, she looks amazing! Don’t love the lip color but otherwise, perfection!

  • Lilak

    I desperately want to love this 100%, but . . . .

Though the dress (oh that fabric!) is a really terrific choice for her, it looks like it shrank in the wash:  I wish her sleeves weren’t quite so capped (see the depressions on her arms when she’s leaning slightly forward?) and I’d like the hem maybe 1.5 in. longer.

An inch here or there and this would’ve been in perfect proportion.

For all that (and others’ issues with lipstick/shoes and maybe hair), STILL she manages to look just darling!

  • CQAussie

Seriously I love her so therefore I love this look!  How earnest does she look?!!  Love.  Starbursts etc.  LOL

  • kikisayshi

Love her. LOVE the dress. She looks 10 times better than the model, but that could be partly attributed to the jacket in the model version. And the shoes are hot.

  • Zippypie

I so love her but not this dress.  This is the ugliest print, a real retro special that needed to stay lost in my great aunt’s parlor drapes.  The ones that were soaked in cigar smoke and dust for 40 years.

  • galcurly

I cannot take the mismatch seaming and I think purple shoes would have set off the look much better.

  • Not only did she sit in it, she danced! completely comfortable and confident.

  • guest2visits

She was adorable; and definitely a plus for his show.

  • turtleemily

    Shoulders back, chest out, Emma.

  • So pretty, and perfect for her!  She WERQ’d the hell out of this look – good for her!

Is she growing the pixie cut out?  As a fellow super-short hair lady, I wish she’d keep it – she can really rock that cut!

    • She said recently that she’s growing it out for a role (I guess wigs and extensions are a drag) and prefers it short, so fingers crossed that she’ll go back after filming is done. 😀

  • ccm800

This one has grown up to be quite a dish. You go hermione darling.

  • RzYoung

I preferred it with the wee jacket.

  • TieDye64

    How very pretty.

  • lrhoff

    HATE the shoes.  Otherwise cute.

  • Girl, that is your dress, your silhouette, your color and your hair! I love her serious expressions.

  • She looks AMAZING!

    (…but I miss the pixie cut…)

  • oohsparkley!

I have never seen her look cuter. The lipstick is fab too.

  • My boyfriend was utterly infatuated with her the entire show.   Though, we both thought the end of the show with her & fallon dancing was adorable.
