WERQ: Brenda Strong in Mark Bouwer

Posted on September 17, 2012

Wow. Not-Pam Ewing wants you to know she’s not all belted sweaters and shotguns.

Brenda Strong attends The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences 2012 Creative Arts Emmy Awards in a Mark Bouwer gown.

Marc Bouwer Fall 2012 Collection

And we’ve gotta say, Lady is WERQing the SHIT out of that look. We might’ve recommended fiercer shoes than those, but we really can’t hold them against her when she’s making such a strong overall impression. Dressing for impact’s what it’s all about when you’re a star on a red carpet. Otherwise, why show up? Texas-sized SNAPS.

That dress was made to be outside on the red carpet – shooting those sun rays.  Love it!

    • blogless

Now see, I think she looks like a baked potato.

      • poggi

But that is one statuesque baked potato.

  • Sobaika

DAMN. Isn’t she the disembodied voice from Desperate Housewives? WERQ!!!

    • MilaXX

That’s her. She died in the first episode.

    • drdirection

she also had a recurring part in Seinfeld

  • Smitty_Werbenjagermanjensen

Woah, I thought it said Brenda Song!

    • stardust462

      Haha, me too!

  • gabbilevy

Silver statuesque. I would say she looks lovely, and it’s not that she doesn’t, but FIERCE is a much better description.

  • A. W.

She’s wearing the dress, not the other way around. Amazing, considering what a powerful dress it is!

  • With that kind of dress, what kind of shoes could you really wear with it? You wouldn’t want to compete with it, since it’s so … THERE. Not sure on this one. Love the lip color.

  • Rand Ortega

WOW! The Schmemmys just took a major step up. She looks incredible! Definitely a WERQ. Can’t wait to see what she’s wearing to the actual ceremony.

  • tallgirl1204

Wow.  Wow-di-Wow.  I love dresses like this, that are all “look-at-me-look-at-me” but are also totally covered up and even (maybe) are o.k. to sit in.

  • Judy_S

This is what red carpets are for.

  • Patricia Gillett

Excellent choice for a woman with her height. Don’t downplay it  it, WERQ it. And she certainly did.

  • Kristy Evans

Who’s looking at her shoes?? She could be barefoot and this would still be a WERQ.

  • Araina23

On the model it looks just WRONG, on her it’s all RIGHT.

  • Kristy Evans

Also, you know RuPaul is FURIOUS she didn’t get to wear that first.

    • AudreysMom

Seriously. Those are some fierce Joan Crawford shoulders there.

  • call_me_schmeg

a ladystar WERQing her mid-forties without the batbrow frozen face. fierce!

    • pattyw

       She’s 52. Even fiercer.

  • Rebecca J.

A kickass dress to go with her even more kickass name.  Brenda Strong.  I love this woman!

    • BerlinerNYC

Seriously! Never thought of that. It’s like Brenda Starr meets Stretch Armstrong, which isn’t all that far off!

  • Pants_are_a_must

    Is that…snakeskin print….done in SEQUINS?

  • kschwarting

And she’s got the confidence that comes with knowing she looks great.  I love that it looks better on her real-world (OK, real world by Hollywood standards) figure than it does on the very thin model!

  • MilaXX

I guess folks turned it out for the schemmy’s

  • sk8tfan

Wow. Love. Great dress, great figure, great hair, great confidence. You show ’em how it’s done, lady.

  • Judy_J

oooooweee!  That is a stellar dress!  She should wear THAT to the Cattle Baron’s Ball!

  • Well, looks like someone realized she’s part of the cast of an 80s power soap! SNAP SNAP!

  • For once, I wish there was a backdrop. This looks stunning but my eyes are confused and need something blank behind her to more clearly see the silhouette. As it is, she looks a little blurred and I’m having trouble judging.

  • quiltrx

Daytime RC’s are always a little weird…in one shot it’s kind of like it’s made out of chewing gum wrappers LOL.  But it’s a fierce dress and she looks great in it!

  • drdirection

She looks better and better every year!  Healthy and happy looking

  • Zippypie

Yuck.  Sorry, she looks like a Christmas ornament.

  • Pterodactyl111

Hate the pattern, love the dress otherwise.

  • Amy

It’s Dallas meets Dynasty meets Delicious.

  • WHOOT!  Nice going, Sue Ellen Mischke!

  • FashionShowAtLunch

Why, Sue Ellen Mischke. You look like one million dollars, and you appear to be wearing a bra!

    • IAmJ

YES! She will never not be Sue Ellen Mischke to me!

  • ChelseaNH

I don’t love the shoulders, but I love her attitude.

  • teensmom99

Bitches, take note.  This is how it’s done.  Looks fantastic and not slutty (in fact she’s covered) and not matronly.  Beyond WERQ.

  • ccm800

the hair does not do the look justice at all.

  • CarolinLA

It was over 100 degrees this weekend in the San Fernando Valley.  Just looking at her is making me sweat.

  • DAYUM.

  • RzYoung

It seems v over the top for day time? When I saw the thumbnail I thought it was Annette Benning

  • mbelchic

    I hate the shoulders-

  • Somehow she managed to keep the sequins from making crazy reflections on her face. Well done.

  • TheOriginalLulu

  • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

    PERFECTION!!!  🙂

  • Le_Sigh

    Damn.  WERQ indeed.

  • snarkykitten

Very nice! But that model appears to have been photoshopped into a toothpick

  • MarissaLG

Mr. Bouwer can do some amazing things with tin foil…

  • CQAussie

  • kimmeister

Too bad Anna never got to wear this on V.

What’s with the pursed lip smile though?
