Kittens, we miss Fashion Week. It was exhausting, and in many ways infuriating, but goddamn if that isn’t quite the high to get over when it’s all said and done. On the other hand, we’ve had donuts, a pizza and burgers since we got home, so there’s that.

The Chandelier Bar at the Cosmopolitan, Las Vegas

But we’re still in the mood for some hardcore GLAMOUR, and what better place than that tack-o-rama known as Vegas, darlings? We’ll meet you there. Save us a comfy seat.

Tonight, Debra Messing visits her old friends on the judging panel.

But even better than THAT…

Holy Shit.

Here are your orders: This MUST be your holiday card this year. Oh, we don’t care what holiday it is. Stick a manger or a menorah in there if you have to, but THIS is the quintessential Bitter Kitten Christmas card and you are obligated to send one to all your friends and family.

But even better than THAT…

THEY MADE VEN DANCE IN PUBLIC. Oh, HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!

Delicious!

Look at Fabio making pretty feet! Work it, gurl!

This actually looks like a lot of fun.

    • Lilithcat

That lounge calls for a vintage 1930s ivory satin bias-cut gown.  Preferably a Vionnet.  And champagne.

      • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

I must ask, is there any time where champagne is not appropriate?

        • Lilithcat

          No.

          • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

            I am mightily relieved.

        • baxterbaby

I’m rinsing my hair with it as we speak.

        • tinyredlocks

          Nope-never!

        • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

As long as it’s not any kind of cheap stuff – that’ll give you a headache instead of a nice pleasant buzz.

      • baxterbaby

        Or Molyneux.

    • Sara__B

My question for the night is: Will Ven put a rose on it?

      • Spicytomato1

And where would you possibly get that idea?

      • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

I don’t know what makes you think that!  ;-)

      • watchmeboogie

Right there with you! You can see him planning where to put it.

      • dschubba

If he likes it, then he’s gonna put a rose on it.

    • Zippypie

AHAHAHA!  This looks like a hot mess that will actually be fun to watch.  When Tim says they all suck, they ALL SUCK!

I need something festive to drink – how about a Bellini with a drop of Chambord.

    • marilyn

This will be as interesting as the one with the girls from roller derby.

    • Spicytomato1

Love it, that image really is the perfect Bitter Kitten Holiday card. As for Heidi in Rockette garb, all I could think when I first saw the preview was OF COURSE. I’m surprised her costume isn’t shorter and tighter than the rest of the ensemble’s.

And Fabio jumped out at me, too, lol. You can see the flair he brings to the dance number by his hand alone! And is he wearing leg warmers? Scrunched really low?

    • IAmJ

Ohhhh, I can’t wait! I don’t know what I like better – Ven squirming and sweating in the back or Fabio GOING FOR IT.

      • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

I know!  Both are pretty great!

    • http://masquedbunny.tumblr.com masquedbunny

I know it’s the Chandelier Bar, and I should be drinking something classier, but no. Strongbow Cider all the way.

Tim high-stepping. I REALLY want that to be in the episode too, but I get the feeling it’s just a promo shot, huh? Also, I bet Tim could get his knee higher if he had a boosted heel; he has the disadvantage of flats. … Ven looks awkward. Elena–somehow–looks even more awkward.

It’ll be interesting to see how much they all screw up in the first go-round to actually make Tim drag them all back to Mood.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1469133250 Patricia McMahon

Rockette Tim is the best. Definitely champagne cocktails for everyone.

    • http://profiles.google.com/gillianholroyd gillian holroyd

I wish this challenge had happened earlier in the season = more train wreck

      • MoHub

Can you imagine what Andrea or Alicia would have come up with?

    • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Gentlemen, there will always be a bottle of bubbly open, with two glasses waiting, at my table, for you.

Dancing designers? Squee!!! They may have just bumped this mass of absurdity into a new and more entertaining galaxy.

      • Spicytomato1

Yes, dancing designers promise to be much more entertaining than running designers. Remember that challenge? Someone got hurt, was it Olivier? Although I guess dancing can also be hazardous.

        • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

It was one of the more completely wrong headed moments in PR history.

          • Winter_White

Remember Olivier intoning, in that somber way of his, “I fell, like a bitch.”

            • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

              I had forgotten that! Thanks!

            • Spicytomato1

I remember him saying that, however, I can’t remember which accent he was using that day.

          • carolclark12

That challenge was one of the worst, but not because of the race.  They had to design an outfit for Heidi’s “workout” line.  A.tro.cious.

            • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

That really was probably one of the worst challenges ever.

            • Call me Bee

Oh my gosh yes.  That was awful stuff, and they produced even worse stuff!  Ugh.

        • MilaXX

yes, but I suspect delicate Oliver get hurts walking across the room.

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Sierra-Delta/100003182924700 Sierra Delta

Please, sir, could you reserve a table big enough for all of us TLo devotees, and would you honor us with lashings of your lethal Bitter Kittens Macaroni and Cheese, washed down with whatever bubbly you and the uncles can spare?

        Gratefully,
        A Particularly Parched PUF

    • http://masquedbunny.tumblr.com masquedbunny

He probably will. He’ll just hide it. He’s basically made it his talisman at this point.

      • Winter_White

“He’ll just hide it.”  Haha!  Love the idea of this little tiny Ven rose on the inside of a pocket or something.

        • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

Haaaaa!  “It’s along the inside of the hem!  I COULDN”T HELP IT!!”

          • Winter_White

Nervously, at the last second, while shoving his model toward the runway:  “Here, put this rose in your mouth!!!”

            • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

              *Dying!!!*

“Why, Ven, is she a flamenco dancing Rockette?”

    • Winter_White

Ex-ballroom dancer Dmitry is going to dance for us!

      • baxterbaby

And yet it’s Fabio who’s all pointy toed and jazz handy!

    • http://press-for-attention.tumblr.com/ Miss Jen K

Now that you’ve shown me that picture, sirs, I will actually start sending out Christmas cards. Even grad students have to start sometime.

This looks like such a fun, fizzy episode! Something fizzy to go with it? I think yes.

Mind if I join you guys in the champagne corner?

    • MilaXX

Feeling a bit under the weather, but this looks worth staying up for.

      • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Mila, have some champagne, for medicinal reasons, you understand. I suspect you’ll need it for this episode.

        • MilaXX

yes of course, for medicinal purposes thank you.

          • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Us kittens must look out for each other, after all.

            • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

              Of course! PURELY medicinal!

        • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

MilaXX, champagne makes everything better. Trust me, I’m a doctor.

(Well, almost, and a PhD, not a MD, but you get my point.)

          • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

It out does chicken soup, by a mile.

            • tinyredlocks

Or have chicken soup and Champagne. Champagne goes with everything…

            • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

So does whiskey.  Should you ever find yourself with a sunburn and needing warmth from a fire, you do enough shots of whiskey and it no longer hurts to be near it.

Of course, you’ll probably be suffering from sun poisoning by morning, but you’ll go out with a bang:)

      • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

Feel better Mila – all our BKs are under the weather tonight it seems!

    • janierainie

Oh my!! If there is a God, Ven’s pants will fall down due to no waist or ass!! I wonder who sews his clothes anyway since he can’t sew for plus sizes?

    • rainwood1

I’m not getting my hopes up about the fun part.  And if Dimitry doesn’t win this one, I’ll be shocked.  Actually I won’t be.    PR doesn’t get me that worked up anymore.

I watched the Season 2 finale on Bravo for the first time a few days ago and it seems like such a different show.  Watching again really brought home how much the show has changed.

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_PBGUD7Y6KYRNL7PCKYNPD2UGSM Carol

I saw the rerun of Season 2, as well. The show’s changed and not for the better.  The designers seemed to be less stressed and definitely seemed to have more fun.  Can you imagine one of this season’s designers doing an impression of Tim?

    • Lisa Kramp

Tim looks like he’s having the time of his life!

      • Spicytomato1

Yeah, the powers that be have been holding him back, I think. He deserves the chance to express himself rather than repress himself for a change!

        • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

Yes!  I hope we DO get to see Tim have a little fun tonight.

    • Stubenville

FINALLY! A TLounge that I’ve been to! And it is much, much better inside peeking out at the hoi polloi  through the crystal strands on the mezzanine – believe me.

And since they squeeze the fruit fresh right at the bar, I’ll have a Cosmo. it is the Cosmopolitan Hotel after all.

      • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

I keep wondering if they’ll ever post one that I’ve been to. So far, not yet.

        • Spicytomato1

Unless TLo ever decides to slum it in a hole in the wall near an overpass, I’m not holding my breath that any of my old haunts will ever pop up.

          • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

I’ve been to like one nice place in NYC, London, and Hong Kong. All b/c I figure that on any trip – even when I’m roughing it – I should fancy it up at least once. And Philly, of course. There are a few swanky places in Philly. Otherwise, your usual haunts sound like mine. ;)

      • http://twitter.com/TorrinPaige Heather

I’ve been there too! The pictures do it no justice whatsoever. It is a beautiful, glittery, crystallized extravaganza. Much like the Rockettes. :o)

    • http://viridianpostcard.blogspot.com/ viridian61

After enough champagne, maybe the Bitter Kittens can dance an impromptu Busby Berkeley inspired number.  The bar seems to call for that.

    • BrooklynBomber

I has a sad, poodles: sick and on meds, so no alcohol for me. I’ll have to pretend to have the Rockettes’ Frrrozen White Chocolate Mocktail.

      • Eclectic Mayhem

Sending hugs and get-well-soon vibes over to you BB!

        • BrooklynBomber

Thanks. I really need to get over this fast, so I’ll take those get-well-soon vibes!

      • NDC_IPCentral

Oh, honey, feel better, girlfriend, eventually.  It all takes time, and when you’re ill, time can march (not high-kick) mighty slowly.

        • BrooklynBomber

          Thank you!

      • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

Feel better, BB!  We’ll have an extra special drink ready for you when you’re better!

        • BrooklynBomber

          Thank you!

      • ASK26

         Feel better!

        • BrooklynBomber

          That’s my plan!! ;)

        • BrooklynBomber

          thanks, honey!

    • Michael Telles

Reminds me of Season 2 Ice Skater challenge. A nice return to form, so I’m very interested to see what happens this episode.

    • aristida_girl

awesome! i can’t wait to get to vegas!

    • Funkykatt

I am photoshopping my friends in this (except Tim, he stays) and it’s going out to all at Xmas. Thanks for the tips, guys!

    • http://twitter.com/msaxelrod Maddie Axelrod

That photo is such a ridiculously perfect Hannukkah card – they’re already arranged like a menorah! Observe: http://imgur.com/cMSFr

    • http://www.facebook.com/izzzyy Dixie Murphy Ross

A> I cannot wait for another serving of what I just saw described as the “Dimitry/Elena hate borscht.”

B> In the promos I never noticed greenie was Heidi. Oops.

C> I need an entire bottle of champagne to myself after today.

      • Anathema_Device

Oh my god, I didn’t know it was her either, until the clip. Tim outshines Heidi and the Rockettes!!

        • http://www.facebook.com/izzzyy Dixie Murphy Ross

damn right he does – he’s TIM FUCKING GUNN, BITCHES! (and my favorite on the show, obvs.)

    • NDC_IPCentral

Well, I can virtually glam/tack myself up to be worthy of this venue.  Sunglasses definitely needed to ward off the chandelier’s rays.

I was thinking about the show tonight, realizing I wasn’t looking forward to it in the way of old, old seasons past, and the word INVENTIVENESS popped into my head.  I used to wait for creations that displayed imagination and problem-solving and cleverness way back when.  Christian Siriano, Judy Noodles, Laura Bennett, Seth Aaron, I’m thinking of you.

I haven’t seen anything remotely approaching that sort of output in PR Season 10.  Alas.

I’ll be hitting the virtual Champagne with the BKs to soak those sorrows.  Wouldn’t it be a fine surprise if The Rockettes force the designer-contestants genuinely to step up their game?

      • Winter_White

It seems that, more and more, the judges have gotten into critiquing the clothes in terms of marketability.  It’s changed the focus, no?  Maybe that’s just my imagination.

        • NDC_IPCentral

A very valid observation Ms. White – I think the judges are looking through the lens of commercialism rather than design for creativity’s and boundary-pushing’s sake.  The whole shebang has slud downhill, from the magazine that was Ms. Garcia’s home, to the Wretched Wall O’ Thoughtfully Used Accessories, to Mr. Gunn’s marginalization, to, of course, the seismic shift from Magical Elves and Bravo to Bunim-Murray and Lifetime.

It’s all of a piece, and the piece here is not fabric of the first water.  — yes, I’m mixing my diamond metaphors with cloth, but y’all get the idea.

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/6PQUNH7VYANAXMRMEEM763V3EU victor liu

I feel like Ven’s going home for replacing a Rockette’s head with a giant ass rose that has “FUCK YOU HEIDI” written on the petals.
That’ll show THEM for making him dance.

    • carolclark12

Maybe the “going back to Mood” is a trick and they’re going back to make a “normal” design based on the costume they apparently all f**ked up.  But, if it really is a costume challenge, shouldn’t this be Dmitry’s to lose?  He did design ballroom dancing costumes, didn’t he?

      • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

        This is what I’m sayin’!

    • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

Tonight my children are not home, I may finally know what’s wrong with me (in a SERIOUSLY?!? moment at the doctor’s office, I was diagnosed with “ice pick headaches”.  Because apparently describing them as “it feels like someone stabbing an ice pick into my skull” didn’t give them a clue.), and I get to watch Ven have to dress a Rockette.  I must send out the official card at once because clearly Christmas has come early this year!!!

      • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

Shannon, I hope you feel better and get some answers from the doc!

      • holdmewhileimnaked

i used to tell them a steel pole. i know just what yr talking about, painwise & doctors not listening wise. i do hope you feel better soon.

      • NDC_IPCentral

Sounds terrifically painful, but if you’re not nursing a glioblastoma or something equally as dire, we can all hope you both get a Dx and also receive an Rx for treating it.  Fingers crossed.

        • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

He says normally it isn’t dangerous at all, but this isn’t a normal case.  Generally they only last for 30 seconds and then it’s gone for months.  I have had that kind for years and always just assumed a pinched nerve or something because it was just for a few seconds.  But something has kicked into a much higher gear now, where instead of compromised blood flow to the brain for a few seconds, I’m having it happen daily and for hours on end, though not to the same point the whole time.

It hits EVERY single symptom and he said the reason everyone missed it was because it’s such an odd presentation and of a disorder that’s rare enough in its normal form.  He’s looking at combination therapies centering on anti-convulsants, and said that unless the damage being done (which is why the weird MRI) is progressing at some insane rate, we’ll have plenty of time to figure it out before it becomes too dangerous.

          • NDC_IPCentral

I’ll keep you in my thoughts, Shannon, and hope that the Dx comes soon and that the RX works….. whew, you have your plate full.

          • bringbackbeatles

Shannon, I just want you to know that you are not alone. I do not have your particular problem, but I do have to deal with severe pain everyday. My doctors are also unsure about exactly what my problems are. Bloodwork comes back positive and negative, always abnormal for something, but never definitive. They know I have arthritis in my shoulders, but that’s all they know. They think I have lupus and fibromyalgia. I feel like I’m in a never ending cycle of medical problem after medical problem. I’m only 27 and am a walking pharmacy. This started when I was 18 or 19. But, the point is, I feel your pain and if you ever need to vent or just talk or whatever, I am totally here. I don’t post much, but am a long time reader. Even, if you never need to, just know I am here to talk and would be happy to give you my e-mail or facebook, etc.

Also, I wrote T.Lo a fan letter about this, to which they wrote the sweetest reply that I still save months later, but I want to say again. T.Lo, your blog is one of the best medicines. The beautiful clothes, the intelligent commentary, and, most importantly, the best sense of humor and wit that I can think of all make the pain a bit easier to push through. I am so excited about your book and your continuing upswing in popularity. I am a true bitter kitten.

            Love,

            Jenn

          • formerlyAnon

Reading late, here   –  I will erupt in unrestrained rejoicing as soon as you can confirm that the diagnosis seems correct & the treatment effective. In the meantime, restrained rejoicing here that you have been given something that seems to fit and sounds hopeful.

      • Qitkat

oh, OUCH. Best wishes on treatment and feeling better soon.

      • alula_auburn

Ugh, headache diagnoses are the worst.  :(

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_PBGUD7Y6KYRNL7PCKYNPD2UGSM Carol

Shannon, I hope you feel better soon and that you’ll know what’s causing your pain.

I used to have migraines, but I don’t think I’ve had one since I had a hysterectomy.  They were bad, but not anywhere nearly as bad as what you’re going through.

    • StelledelMare

Definitely looks like a super fun challenge (and it’s about time too). Also I love that it’ll basically force them to use color for once, I hope.

    • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

Ven dancing? Now, that I can’t wait to see!  Actually, I wouldn’t be surprised if he runs screaming from the stage, leaving a gigantic Ven-shaped hole in one of the walls of Radio City!

I promise, promise, PROMISE to use that picture as my Christmas card…. provided Dmitry doesn’t get the auf tonight!  If he goes home for whatever reason, it’s back to “Elf Yourself” on the Office Max website!  Ideally, he should be safe.  Of course, the irony would be to have the guy with the background in designing dance costumes to choke on the dance costume challenge for whatever reason.  But that’s just me bein’ paranoid right up to the finals!

I do predict that tonight is Ven’s night to get the auf – there’s no way he can make an origami rose out of sequins!

      • Qitkat

I believe that kind of irony has happened more than once, though I can’t immediately give you examples. As far as a sequined origami rose, I wouldn’t write that off yet!

        • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

          Gaaaaahhhh….

    • Anathema_Device

Once again, I forgot about PR. Probably won’t watch the show until the weekend, as has been the case this season.

Can’t wait to see Dmitry shake it, as he was a dancer, correct?

We need a copyright-free, hi-res, downloadable form of that Tim pic, and I will totally use it as my holiday card!

Pour me something that is the alcohol equivalent of comfort food. I need it!

Hmmmm…what lovely drink goes with pain relievers?  Broken ankle is yelling at me for being on it too much today, so I’ll leave the dancing to the designers (which I am actually looking forward to seeing!)

what lovely drink goes with pain relievers?
        Dr. Pepper?  =)

Ooh!  Late to the party (JV game to attend).  Lovely bar, but I always think hoochie-mama clothes for Sin City.  If I may, I will join the drinkers of champagne.

    • Qitkat

The female wresting costume challenge was a lot of fun a few years back. Didn’t Sissy Bear win that one? Oh, for someone this year to come close to his kind of fun, and talent.

      • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

Yup, I do believe Sissy Bear did win that one, and we got rid of The Cryer as well.  That was a great challenge, I loved it.

    • Kayceed

I love that Tim is displaying excellent form – right down to the pointed toe!

    • GorgeousThings

Oh luvs, I’m here. Sorry to be so late. Don’t know if I care. It can NOT be as fun as the WWE challenge, but anything to see these designers do the “God I Hope I Get It” dance..

Can I please have a very large glass of water, followed shortly by a glass of Sancerre? It’s been a rough week.

    • Jasmaree

“They didn’t really understand where I’m coming from.”

Ven’s gonna make another flower, isn’t he?

      NY Daily News:

Cool Cocktail. An Icy Treat, On The Rockettes
BY ROSEMARY BLACKWednesday, December 07, 2005
The Rockettes, those world-famous, high-kicking dancers who draw thousands to Radio City each year for the Christmas Spectacular, now have their very own cocktail. You might also call it a Mocktail, as it is alcohol-free and already a favorite with kids of all ages at Serendipity 3, where it’s featured for the first time this holiday season. The cocktail is easy to make at home, though if you go sample it at Serendipity, you’ll get to see the new Rockette Window, where a life-size Rockette mannequin and a giant frozen white chocolate drink appear on a green velvet backdrop on a stage. The beverage, created by the restaurant’s owner, Stephen Bruce, has a hint of mint, plenty of rich creaminess due to the white chocolate and whipped cream, and a festive candy cane garnish. The 20-ounce drink costs $7.50 and it’s very shareable. The Christmas Spectacular Frrrozen White ChocolateServes 16 ounces white chocolate, broken into pieces3/4 cup milk6 fresh mint leaves, plus 1 or 2 sprigs for garnish2 cups iceWhipped creamMaraschino cherries, candy canes or sprinklesPlace the chocolate in a heavy saucepan over very low heat and stir until melted. Jesus, Mary & Joseph that sounds AWFUL!

Though considered as a Holiday Dessert rather than a beverage, it might prove palatable. And it certainly sounds as if it would be pretty.

        • BrooklynBomber

I didn’t read it that closely, but glancing at the ingredients, I didn’t think it’d be something I’d like.

      • another_laura

Is this still permitted in NYC? Or does the prohibition just apply to soda?

    • MilaXX

at least Heidi can kick as high as the Rockettes

    • Stubenville

      Oooh – Ven’s making a modern rose.

      • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

“They don’t have the crystals I want.  Because they don’t have any rose shaped crystals.”

    • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

      “Oh baby.” Oh Dmitry.

      • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

        I just… I know, you know?

    • http://eclectictsunami.blogspot.com/ Cassie

Something tells me that Heidi showing up onstage with the Rockettes is a fulfillment of a lifetime dream.

    • Kimbolina

Oooh, I’m actually really digging Christopher’s idea of the NYC skyline.  I hope he can pull it off well!

      • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

I know – that really does sound cool.

    • BuffaloBarbara

I love this challenge!  And I love them talking about… design!  Oh, my God, design!  On PR!

    • Stubenville

Is Elana getting the loser edit? Or the redemption edit?

    • ASK26

damn – why do I get stuck with work every Thursday lately… so far I have seen like 10 seconds of the show!

    • Kimbolina

So Elena…  Loser edit?  Or redemption edit??

I’m hoping loser cause I can’t stand listening to her talk anymore…

      • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

I hope so too – I”m over it.

      • Jasmaree

I’m thinking redemption. They pointed out that she was the only one without a win, she’s been talking about reforming and creating something outside of her comfort zone, and we saw from the preview that they’re getting a do-over at mood.

      • MilaXX

        I’m thinking redemption edit

    • alula_auburn

I was joking before, but I think maybe blue did steal Elena’s milk money.  (Maybe that’s why Dmitry has added his blue shirt to his rotation, hahaha.)

    • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

Oh no, this’ll be the challenge that trips up Dmitry, because I bet the judges will find his “too costumey.” Which will make no sense. Am I disillusioned or what?

    • Stubenville

Two day challenge?  Plot twists ahead…

    • Stubenville

Oh Elana, STFU. You could have picked  anything at Mood.

    • guest2visits

Elena’s crying already – she hasn’t even left Mood.  I see a drinking game.

    • http://eclectictsunami.blogspot.in/ Cassie

Did anyone else catch Christopher excitedly cuddling up to Sonjia, and Sonjia just…sidling away? Hilarious.

Also, mmm, Dmitry looks good in blue. /perving

      • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

I didn’t notice her doing that!  Haaah!

    • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

Christopher, my dear, that’s not your color.

    • MilaXX

They are taking them to dinner. Uh-oh I’m invoking Sebella’s rule. “It’s never just a muthafunkan party.” They’re going to pull a second part to the challenge on them at dinner and that’s why they will have to go to Mood again.

      • Kimbolina

I bet, SURPRISE!  They’re gonna have to make a real world outfit that goes with their costume or something like that.

      • alula_auburn

If I were on a reality show (hah!) I would FREAK OUT as soon as they offered something “nice.”  It’s like the scene in a horror movie when you think they caught the monster and then a claw comes out of the corner or something.

      • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

That was the first thing I thought of too – “It’s never just a fucking party.”

    • jilly_d

Sorry I’m late!  I’ll have three fingers of Templeton Rye, neat.  This looks like a fun challenge!  Also, Why can I not look like Sonjia?  She is fukking fabulous.

    • ChristinaRi

I have no idea who is going to do well this challenge — it seems a total crapshoot

And omg!  how do they have time to go out to eat???

    • MilaXX

Love how Sonjia wraps her scarves.

      • http://eclectictsunami.blogspot.in/ Cassie

        She’s so fabulous. HUGE GIRLCRUSH.

        • MilaXX

AGREED,  she had me at the blue hair.

      • CozyCat

If she ever decides not to be a designer (which would be tragic), she could definitely make a good living as a stylest.

    • ChristinaRi

      lol   “Wine is working.”

I can’t express how much I love him.

      • alula_auburn

Full time Dmitry commentary.  On ALL the shows.

        • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

A 24 hour Dmitry channel, please!

          • blondie65

Oh yes…where do I sign up?!

          • http://beautyforrealgirls.blogspot.com/ accidental housewife

I’d watch the hell out of a 24 hour Dmitry channel. Dmitry designs. Dmitry has lunch. Dmitry talks to his cat about his weird neighbors. Dmitry takes a nap.

    • Jasmaree

Yes! I love the “I’m being a dick” moments.

“I think it’s wine. Wine is working”

      I think you’re right Dmitry.

      • CozyCat

I’ve once worked on a very intense project with an highly international staff. One day we were having a meeting where people were arguing on the same point for the fifth time–going over and over and over the same points. Finally I walked out and a really sweet (and smart) Russian guy followed me out.

        Hime:

    • dschubba

I really respect Elena for apologizing.

Dying at “I think it’s wine. Wine is working.” ILU Dmitry.

      • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

That really *was* cool of her for apologizing to him.

Dmitry, Dmitry – you’re awesome.  Always keep saying stuff!

    • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

“Even Ven is opening up! I think it’s wine. Wine is working.” Dmitry why do you have the best soundbites?

    • ChristinaRi

So now with this edit — Sonjia for the win?

    • Stubenville

Actually I agree with Ven – Elana’s is looking like a third rate college band majorette…

      • CozyCat

In other words it is pretty typical for the rockettes!

    • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

Man, what kind of crazy cheerleaders has Ven seen?

    • Jasmaree

Elena’s really starting to let go, isn’t she?

    • BrooklynBomber

      Two day challenge!

      • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

They decided to stop torturing the designers for once – a two day challenge and FOOD!

    • ChristinaRi

So Elena has gone from being an attention sucking bitch to an attention sucking clown.    I just don’t get that girl, but as Ven says, “She’s talented.”

    • dschubba

That dinner scene almost reminded me of S1 when the designers went out every other episode.

    • alula_auburn

Can I just say that I hate those –crappy– Charmin bears?

      • dschubba

You definitely aren’t alone on this.

      • MilaXX

I think the thought of a bear wiping his butt is gross and that’s all I can think of whenever I see those commercials.

        • http://beautyforrealgirls.blogspot.com/ accidental housewife

They’re disgusting. I can’t fast forward through them fast enough.

      • barbiefish

Ha, I think that commercial is funny in a strange way — but that’s because my husband uses as much TP as baby bear does!

    • BuffaloBarbara

I’m thinking this may throw off Fabio–not really in his wheelhouse at all.  Worried about Sonjia, who’s either getting a loser’s edit or a “Wow, look how much she overcame!” winner’s edit.

    • Stubenville

Well it’s going to be hard for guest judge Deborah Messing to say “I’d wear that.”

      • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

        A-hee!

      • dschubba

She could wear it on Smash (if that show lasts another season).

    • ChristinaRi

Elena’s is awful — but it’s well constructed.

    • Stubenville

      Love Dimitri’s color!

    • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

hi guys!  just a little late.  tonight chez sleah we are serving homemade lemon-limeade garnished with mint and el presidente brandy.  line those virtual glasses up!

      • Call me Bee

Hmmmm….lemonade and brandy?  Sounds interesting–I may have to try that.  We generally mix ours with vodka, though we love our brandy here in Cheeseland.

    • alula_auburn

“It’s definitely a 360 degree experience.” Tim is the master of the polite insult.

LOL, all kinds of interesting Tim-isms. “Yikes!” Fake cutting! Bitchy sequins! The weirdness of Tim saying crotch!

    • ChristinaRi

I’m so afraid Dimtry is going home.

      • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

Nooo, no no, don’t think that!

      • dschubba

Me too. I keep flashing back to Emmett’s navy blue skating dress.

    • zelavie

“Think about this very thoughtfully.”  I think Tim needs a thesaurus.

    • baxterbaby

      My new mantra a

      “Put some gleeter on it”

    • Kimbolina

I love how Fabio raised his hand to ask his question.

      • http://eclectictsunami.blogspot.in/ Cassie

        I love Fabio.

      • MilaXX

         He’s so polite

    • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

      Huhhh.

    • ChristinaRi

Bad, bad, bad.    I hate it that they give the designers who are floundering another chance to shop.

      • zelavie

I call it “pulling an Anya”.  I hope Sonjia will benefit from this as much as baldie did.

        • ChristinaRi

          Oh, good one!

Tim walks in and says “Gather round Designers.  We’re going to have an Anya.”

          • VictoriaDiNardo

Or “we’re going to have an Anya-rism” ?

        • http://beautyforrealgirls.blogspot.com/ accidental housewife

I’m convinced they sent to designers to Mood for a second time because so many viewers said they did it to save Anya’s lame-assed collection last season. “See. We didn’t do it to save our precious Anya-Angel. We’d do that for any bunch of designers who are having trouble.”

    • http://eclectictsunami.blogspot.in/ Cassie

Okay, Christopher is pretty annoying sometimes, but his summing up of Tim’s last-minute twist was kind of awesome. “GET IN THE VAN!”

      • Call me Bee

And then he was so sweet to give Melissa some of his money.  He’s making me kinda like him…

    • Jasmaree

So…no one really profited off of an extra hundred dollars.

    • dschubba

Ven has the subtlest “loud” fabric in the world.

    • Stubenville

Yea, Ven – pale lavender is so loud…

      • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

Well, for his personality it is!

    • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

“It’s very loud.” Uh Ven in what world is baby pastel blue, sequined or not, loud?

    • Call me Bee

The lounge is awesome!!  Sorry I’m late–I was at a charity fund raiser spending funds for a good cause.  I’ve alreayd had a (real) martini and a few glasses of wine, so I better just have a large glass of seltzer with a twist and rehydrate a bit.
      So–the Rockettes, eh?
Love Ditmitry’s so far, and (surprizingly) Christopher’s.
So–I’m here just in time for the “you are all screwing up so let’s go back to Mood and re-think your entire outfits!!”  This oughtta be good…

    • dschubba

Nononono! Stop talking about your boyfriend, Sonjia!

    • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

Tootie’s reminds me of Lisa Frank for some reason. I dig it.

    • Stubenville

Damn, Laura Bennett would have knocked this challenge out of the park…

      • nosniveling

LB would knock ANY challenge out of the park :)

    • Jasmaree

Ooh, it’s looking like a winner’s edit for Sonjia now.

And did I just see Sonjia sewing something for Melissa? She’s getting a whole lot of help.

    • Girl_With_a_Pearl

So was that the phone call of death for Sonjia?  Or the the phone call of I’m going to go win this challenge now?  Or it it the p fake-out phone call?

    • ASK26

What is with. Sonjia and her choice of lipstick color?

    • alula_auburn

I guess we should be glad there hasn’t been a Yoplait challenge. . .YET.

    • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

I can’t really disagree with the designers who decided to stay behind and work.  If they don’t need the stuff, they’d be crazy to lose that time.

    • ChristinaRi

That Abby person is so grotesque.  How did she get a television show?

      • alula_auburn

I’m just appalled the Joffrey is being associated with her.  How disappointing.

    • MilaXX

      I hope Sonjia isn’t making a muppet

      • Call me Bee

Hahaha that made me laugh.  Me, too.

    • ChristinaRi

Ah Ven.   What a nice guy.   Glad we got to see that.

    • Call me Bee

I love Sonjia’s hair today.  A blue bob!!

    • NDC_IPCentral

“Buck-buck-buck-buck!”  Oh, Dimitry, you made me laugh.

    • BuffaloBarbara

I wonder if they notice how much better this show is when the designers are behaving well and the “drama” is about the challenge.

      • ChristinaRi

        I hope they do.

We’re helped out now that Elena decided to act at least partially sane.

      • blondie65

I know….this was the best PR in over 2 years. It was sooo much closer to episodes  from S1-4…  More of this please.

      • CarolinLA

One of the reasons the designs are better is because we’re now rid of the chattel.

    • MilaXX

Ven’s is pretty but like the top of an evening gown.

      • dschubba

It’s something Miss Maryland could wear during the Talent Portion.

    • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

Omg whose runway music is this during Tootie’s scene?
Dmitry’s looks sooo very ballroom dance competition.

      • dschubba

         I want to say Uli?

      • Call me Bee

It was first on S3–Uli’s runway show music.  THey pull it out now and again when they have a “light” scene.

        • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

I love that music. I don’t know why.

          • dschubba

I’m partial to this one tune you almost never hear except for in the very beginning of the season when they still have 15 or 16 designers and need lots and lots of runway music.

        • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

I have Uli’s runway song on my iPod!  I love it!

      • Stubenville

Most of the iconic PR music is by Harold Barefoot Saunders. Some of it is on iTunes.

        • Call me Bee

I bought an album of PR music on Amazon!  So fun to listen to!

    • Jasmaree

So….first Christopher gives Melissa 50 extra extra dollars, then Ven perfectly hand sews part of her garment, and then Fabio/Sonjia/Christopher helps with the zipper.

Usually I don’t mind designers helping each other out a little, but this is starting to be a bit much.

      • MilaXX

I don’t mind it. It’s  nice to see them being nice to each other for a chance. I’ll take this over fake drama any day.

        • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

Yeah, I kind of get all verklempt when they’re nice to each other.

          • AnneElliot

It was the first time I saw Ven be really helpful to another designer.  My jaw dropped, literally.

      • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

I like it.  It’s not every damn time, so I don’t mind — and Melissa’s cool, so I’d prefer she not go home.

    • dschubba

I wish Christopher’s had some OOMPH on the bottom.

      • MilaXX

Theonly thing I wish was he had outlined the skyline part in a darker color .Otherwise I like it.

    • NDC_IPCentral

Dimitry’s and Christopher’s iin the workroom as they dress the models – top notch.  Though I think Christopher was inspired by Jay McCarroll……

    • alula_auburn

Chris says “jazzy” and I hear Sheldon Cooper saying “zazzy.”

Yeah, Elena of ALL people needs not to have parts fall off on the runway!

    • MilaXX

This looks like  Christopher win so far. No real trainwrecks, but his is the only wow piece so far.

    • Stubenville

      Christopher FTW, Ven auf…

      • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

I think you might be right.

    • http://eclectictsunami.blogspot.in/ Cassie

Oooh, when they break out the glue in the workroom…that ain’t good.

    • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

I’m worried – Dmitry’s is really skimpy!  I’m scared that he’s going to get the “taste level” criticism which could mean big trouble!

But then again, I can’t really disagree with the designers who decided to stay behind and work. If they don’t need the stuff, they’d be crazy to lose that time.

    • Kimbolina

Christopher nailed it.  I’ll be surprised if he doesn’t win.  I can’t really see how any of the others could be a win.

      • MilaXX

I would have given Fabio a close second, but yeah this is Christopher’s.

    • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

Why are they doing All Stars AGAIN so soon? Sigh.

Also, these Lays commercials amuse me because in Colombia, they have Chicken (Pollo) Flavored Lays, which I have tasted, and which taste just like rotisserie chicken, oddly enough. Pretty decent with Colombian sour cream though. But so I just bet that they market those same chips in the US and pretend those are the ones that won the contest.

      • MilaXX

Eva Longoria and Muchael Symoen were promoting this and they mentioned the flavors they have in other countries and said that’s why the contest is so hard. Many of the flavors people would suggest are probably already in production in other places.

        • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

          Ahhh.

    • Call me Bee

I gotta say–I think all these will look good on stage.  I’m pretty impressed–all the designs are really different!  I say Christopher or Dimitry FTW and Ven auf just cuz it’s boring.  They always send boring home  (We can hope…)

    • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

Nice dress, Heidi, but you need some color on your face because you look suuuper washed out.

      • Stubenville

And it makes her “girls” look saggy…

        • emily mcginnis

seriously. Heidi and the saggy boobs AGAIN. :(

    • Stubenville

      Like Dimitri’s but too sexy,,,

      • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

        Yeah, that worries me too.

    • Stubenville

      Melissa – space waitress.

    • Jasmaree

      Melissa’s definitely in the bottom.

    • alula_auburn

LOL, Heidi is dazzled by all the skin and sparkles. It’s totally her dream challenge.

    • Kimbolina

Why is Debra Messing guest judging this challenge?  Shouldn’t they have the Rockettes woman judge it?

      • emily mcginnis

        i wondered the same thing.

      • CarolinLA

They should’ve chosen Ivy from Smashed instead.  She’s a veteran of musical theater.

    • Stubenville

      Ven – yawn.

    • Stubenville

      Elana’s… OMFG!

    • dschubba

      Ven’s bust is terrible.

    • Call me Bee

Where’d they get all those sparkly Capesio’s?

      • NDC_IPCentral

Well, Capezio’s, of course!  I remember that there was THE Capezio shop near Lincoln Center back years ago.  I assume the support team went to a dance supplier for a heap o’ sparkly tap shoes.

    • ChristinaRi

      Elena’s has funny boobs

    • Stubenville

      Love Christopher’s!

      • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

That one has to be the winner!  He really did an amazing look.

    • Stubenville

      Sonija – no, hon.

      • alula_auburn

Maybe if the challenge had been to dress a Muppet Rockette. . .

    • http://press-for-attention.tumblr.com/ Miss Jen K

Was it just me, or were some of the models walking and posing really awkwardly on the runway?

      • Call me Bee

No not just you.  There is not a dancer among them, I fear…Even Christopher had better moves than his model…

        • http://press-for-attention.tumblr.com/ Miss Jen K

It’s weird, though – I never noticed any stilted movements before. I can’t believe the fabrics here are that stiff…

      • lessax3

Yeah, not too many of those models will be joining the rockettes.

    • Stubenville

Fabio – cocktail waitress at Caesar’s palace.

      • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

        Yup.  But he’s safe, sooo…

    • Call me Bee

      Fabio’s looks a bit like armour–in a good way!

    • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

I have SEEN that dress on ballroom dancers, Dmitry. Modern? Ehhh.
      Melissa: Oh nooo.
Ven: Pffft. It’s a yawn in dress form.
      Elena: Fit issues.
Christopher’s is almost too chic? But I like it.
I loooove Tooties for being soooo Lisa Frank.

How is Fabio in the middle? His was my least favorite.

    • Jasmaree

I actually really liked Fabio’s. Should have been in the top.

Elena’s is worse than Ven’s. hate the top of Sonjia’slo

      • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

Elena’s is too drum majorette, but Ven’s is just a dress.

    • emily mcginnis

the only thing about Christopher’s is that it would not be visible from the cheap seats.

      • lessax3

It needs a bit more bling and movement on the bottom but its the best of the lot though.

      • alula_auburn

I thought that too.  I wonder how it would have worked with a darker background.

      • mom2ajs5

That was my thought too. Mose contrast would have been better, but may have veered on a literal NYC skyline at night if he has used navy or black. Maybe a dark silver. I do think he’s going to win. And I’m really hoping we didn’t see Sonjia’s boyfriend for the loser’s edit!

        • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

i think dark illusion netting would have been perfect, with scattered rhinestones.  i don’t see how they can call it too literal, when it’s a rockettes costume.

      • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

I thought the same thing.  Also, the skirt doesn’t move.  But he really did do a spectacular job, I have to admit.  I want Dmitry to win, but I think Christopher has this in the bag.

        • http://beautyforrealgirls.blogspot.com/ accidental housewife

I could not take my eyes of Dmitry’s. It was just stunning. So I also wanted him to win, but it’s no surprise that Christopher took it. And good for him. I adore Christopher, and I want only good things to happen to him.

          • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

Ditto.  Yes, Christopher is self-centered, but I think that’s just a lack of thought — some people just do not naturally think about other people’s feelings.  It’s not that they don’t care, it’s that they truly do not get it until someone else points it out to them.  He’s young enough that he hasn’t had enough time to really develop that ability yet.  He seems like a nice guy, just a clueless one.

      • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

Imagine how great it would be for press photos though.

    • http://eclectictsunami.blogspot.in/ Cassie

Oh my God, Elena’s dress is eye-searing. My eyes literally hurt now.

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1344922354 Eric Scheirer Stott

For a costume that can be a big plus.

        • CozyCat

That’s very true.  You could still see the details from the second balcony.  But the judges may not agree….

          • Stubenville

You could see that mess from BROOKLYN!

            • http://beautyforrealgirls.blogspot.com/ accidental housewife

You could see that mess from SPACE!

    • MilaXX

Runway – winner gets costume reproduced for future production. Guest judge Debra Messing

Dmitry – blue zig -zag – pretty reminds me of a skaters costume
‘Melissa – pink/black – not crazy looks like a cigarette girl
Ven – boring. Looks like the top half a an evening gown. pale lavender.blue
Elena – Bright blue and definite cheerleader like
Christopher – his skyline is a success
      Sonjia – purple feather shorts
      Fabio – silvery and pretty

I would have put Fabio & Christopher in the top, but gave Christopher the win

    • ASK26

      I like Dmitry’s

    • NDC_IPCentral

My predictions: Christopher FTW.  Dimitry a close second.  Sonjia in trouble, Ven in trouble, Melissa in trouble.

      Hunh – Fabio’s gladiatrix — safe.

I think Elena’s OTT bling would project well to the nose-bleed seats – this is glitzy dance costuming, after all.

      Fabio’s — I did not like!

      • Call me Bee

        Gladiatrix!  Love it!

    • Girl_With_a_Pearl

Glad Fabio is safe because I thought he might be in trouble.  However, if the challenge was to design an outfit for the musical Pippin, he would win.

    • Jasmaree

      I think it should be:

      Christopher FTW. Obviously.

And Melissa or Sonjia auf. No movement in either garment, and both look very cheap.

    • Kimbolina

I think Christopher and Dimitry in the top, Ven and Sonjia in the bottom.  Melissa’s and Elena’s are the wildcards, either one could go either way.

    • ThaliaMenninger

I can’t decide between Christopher’s, which is adorable, and Dmitri’s, which I think would read more dramatically in Radio City Music Hall. And then there’s a big gap before Melissa, and an even bigger gap before Sonjia and Fabio, whose garments are equally hideous, and then comes the Ven boring mess slightly edging out the Elena cheap circus outfit.

      1. Tie: Christopher and Dmitri
      3. Melissa
      4. Sonjia (grape birdie)
      5. Fabio (Spartan warrior woman)
      6. Ven (a sparkly tablecloth)
      7. Elena (Cirque du Tacquee)

      • AnneElliot

        Cirque du Taquee — LOL!!

    • MilaXX

Sonjia should have had the back out.

      yay Dmitry

    • Stubenville

      Love Dimitri’s facial expressions.

    • ChristinaRi

I was thinking one of the problem with Christopher’s design is that although beautiful, doesn’t have a lot of movement.

      • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

and the design won’t show past the third row.

    • http://eclectictsunami.blogspot.in/ Cassie

      Oh, Sonjia. That is…grapey.

Dmitry’s is even more gorgeous close up.

    • NDC_IPCentral

Yay! Dimitry is getting a load of well-deserved love, at last.  That dress of his looks fabulous in closeups.

    • Stubenville

      Vens sad sparkly sundress.

I’d love Ven’s design…for a MOB dress!  Love the color and the halter (but as a real halter–not a racer back). But for stage?  Nah…boring.
      Sounds like Melissa is safe.

    • NDC_IPCentral

Duchess to Heidi, “For you it’s long.”  PRICELESS.

    • Stubenville

When HEIDI says it’s too short, DAMN, it’s short!

    • http://eclectictsunami.blogspot.in/ Cassie

Ven’s dress is making me sad. So shapeless and awkward and…sad.

      • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

imagine 25 of them in a row.  zzzzzz

    • StelledelMare

Nina nailed it. Melissa’s is very cigarette girl

    • dschubba

Melissa’s neckline is so wrong for dancing, but a great Art Deco detail.

      • http://eclectictsunami.blogspot.in/ Cassie

Agreed. I like that neckline (and apparently Melissa does too), but it’s a really bad idea for this challenge.

      • Stubenville

I keep thinking there was a picture of Audrey Hepburn in a gown with that neckline.

    • Maria Rosenfire

Wow, I think Debra Messing’s not being allowed to say “I’d wear that” is really pushing her to say things that are actually useful.

      • Call me Bee

She did very well when she was the finale judge in season 2 when Chloe Dau won.  I remember she had really good things to say.

    • ChristinaRi

      Oh Michael.

No Las Vegas cheerleader would wear Elena’s outfit.

      • Stubenville

No, a Vegas hooker doing a cheerleader fantasy out-call would.

        • NCDFan

          Hmmmm

    • zelavie

Christopher’s is obviously pretty amazing, but I HATE that it’s in white.  I feel like it’s just the least dramatic/impactful color for what they’re doing.  I’m sure he’ll get the win, and it’s deserved, but I wish it was not white.  Maybe black is the only other option, but at least there would be some skin/dress contrast (since most of the Rockettes seem to be light-skinned).

      • StelledelMare

I wish the bottom of it was different. It really does have no movement.

      • cheesebomb

I think it would work in a navy with some silver trim.

      • alula_auburn

Yeah, Debra’s doing okay, but I REALLY wish they had a Rockette rep there as well.  For them to not even not the issue of white detailing on stage makes me side-eye them a bit.

    • alula_auburn

Heidi has some kind of weird reverse-crush on Chris, I think. Or possibly thinks he’d be a super-cute pet.

      • http://eclectictsunami.blogspot.in/ Cassie

He would be! A bit yippy, though.

        • kismet026

Hah! I downright cackled when I read that.

          • 3boysful

             Me, too!

        • alula_auburn

          LOL, he is rather high-strung.

        • alula_auburn

          LOL, he is rather high-strung.

      • cheesebomb

I just had an alarming mental image of Heidi dressed as Dr. Claw petting a cat with Chris’ head.

    • NDC_IPCentral

Stop with the weepies, Elena!  We know you’re tired, but suck it up – that becomes a sign of weakness.

    • dschubba

Damn. That “Is it getting to you?” probably came out a lot meaner than Heidi intended.

      • NDC_IPCentral

I’m not entirely sure that the intention wasn’t behind it.  Heidi can wield a pretty sharp elbow at times when she’s making the contestants sweat up there on the runway as they receive The Judgment.

    • Call me Bee

So who’s auf?  Elena?  Sonjia?  Elena has never won a challenge, nor has she done anything that was really her esthetic.  SHe may be not long for this show…

      • MilaXX

I think the auf is between Elan and Ven, with a nod to Ven cause he’s proven he can’t do anything besides the origami rose. When he tries it fails. That’s when the inevitable “do we want to see more of this person” thinking comes in. Since they agree he can’t do anything other than the rose, they are done with him.

        • barbiefish

          Very prophetic.

    • ChristinaRi

I don’t feel sorry for Elena.  She treated the challenge disrespectfully as she does many of the challenges.

She treated it like a joke and made a joke dress.

      • MilaXX

I don’t think she treated it like a joke. She was genuinely trying and just over did it. That can  happen when you try and stretch outside your comfort zone.

      • kismet026

There’s no way she treated it as a joke. She took it seriously, she just took her setbacks in stride instead of shrieking and swearing like she used to. I really think the visit with her mother opened her eyes, and she realized that she couldn’t go on with the negativity and stressing herself so much like she used to. There has been a distinct change in the past two episodes – in both her work (color! non-severe silhouettes!) and her outlook – and I think it’s refreshing.

        • ChristinaRi

I agree with you that Elena did realize that her attitude and behavior were getting in her way, but the way she laughed at the concept of the challenge and then laughed at her own design and sneered that she wouldn’t get eliminated because the others were so much worse, made me form the opinion that she designed a joke that just kept getting worse and worse.  At the end, she realized that others had designed good things and started to get worried.

I appreciate you different perspective although I don’t agree.   I do think she showed some insight at the beginning of this episode and hope that will carry over and make her a contender because as much as I do not like her, I think her final collection is one of the very best.

          • kismet026

I do see what you meant now. It is certainly not good to think you’re getting by because there’s a bigger train wreck than you, even if it’s true. The designers should strive to win by creating a great design, instead of not losing. I’m happy that you appreciate other perspectives, even ones you disagree with, and likewise, I appreciate and now understand yours. My opinion is that Elena truly was lost in this challenge and had no idea how to present a good garment in this case. But, of course, only Elena knows what really went on.

          • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

To be honest, I would be laughing through the whole challenge.  Not because I wasn’t taking it seriously, but because it’s so silly and awesome and outrageously fun.

          • asympt

I think it was just some overcompensation. Laughing to keep from the crying and complaining that she knows have been killing her. She’s very emotional, and I don’t think she could have really just laughed it off if she tried.

    • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

Well, looks like Christopher’s winning this one.  But I just wish he’d shut the hell up with the sucking up to Debra Messing.

SO glad to see Dmitry at least in the top two!

Gotta be Elena or Ven for the auf.

So mean, but I’m rolling around laughing.

    • alula_auburn

      ORIGAMI ROSE.

    • dschubba

I’m still chuckling at Ven parroting “Debra Messing’s second favorite” as if it were something more than the vaguest of compliments.

    • Stubenville

Origami Rose is Ven’s drag name. Priceless!

    • http://eclectictsunami.blogspot.in/ Cassie

Debra Messing’s affect/facial expression when she said “pigeon chest” cracked me the hell up.

    • zelavie

      pleasepleasepleasepleaseplease auf Origami Rose.

      • ASK26

         The other two are worse

        • zelavie

I know, but I just don’t like him.  I’d rather watch Sonjia or Elena next week than the cocky robot.

      • zelavie

        WHAT.  SO HAPPY!

    • Jasmaree

I don’t quite understand why Melissa was in the top.

“It’s very stiff and way too short. There’s a giant 1 on her chest, and it’s driving me crazy! Other than that, it’s perfect.”

      • zelavie

I’m guessing it’s because they couldn’t have 2 on the top and 5 on the bottom.  She got the 3rd highest score, which in this case is really just the 5th lowest.  They had to praise it in some way to call it “top”.

      • kismet026

If you look at the others, it makes sense she had the 3rd highest score. I imagine the gap between 2nd and 3rd was huge, though.

    • Call me Bee

In the past, when confronted with the bottom two–one being wacko crazy and the other boring, they’ve ALWAYS sent home boring.  I’m not so sure about that tonight…They may keep Ven for some odd reason.  Maybe because he’s won challenges, and Elena has not.

      • NDC_IPCentral

You called it – boring over eye-tearing color.  Had Ven blinged up his dress he probably would have stayed.  His skirt was a good one for stage dancers, I thought.  Ven just doesn’t have “theater” in him.

        • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

Honey, Ven just doesn’t have “mildly interesting” in him!

    • Maria Rosenfire

I do love Christopher’s concept, but it needed a darker color and a skirt with some kick to it.

Dmitry’s might have been a bit of a cliche, but it was absolutely perfectly executed (looked even better close-up) and he’s the only one who really thought about how it would move on stage. I’d give him the win.

      • 3boysful

I agree!  Dimitry was robbed.  I loved Costello-Lite’s concept,  but there was no movement in the skirt, it looks like it would be difficult to high-kick in, and from the cheap seats, the whole skyline effect is lost.  Dimitry’s was one of my favorite garments ever on the show.  Classy adn perfectly answers the challenge.

(And how about Kors’ “You like them shorter!” to Heidi?  I died.)

        • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

Well, this was the second time Dmitry was robbed by Costello-lite!  First time was the L&T challenge.

      • CozyCat

They picked the right top two.  I think Christopher’s won because he had a better (cultural) understanding of the Rockettes.  Dmitry’s was a very good dance costume, but it wasn’t uniquely “rocketees” so it came in second.  That sounds about right to me.  (but I wouldn’t have been upset had the order been switched.)

        • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

And with these judges, NY was going to get very positive feedback.  I mean, virtually every season they have a “get inspired by NY” challenge.

    • BuffaloBarbara

Christopher’s is the best concept, obviously, and beautifully executed–people coming to see the Rockettes want to be celebrating New York. But the point about the lack of movement is a good one.  Christopher’s is more New York, but Dmitry’s is a better dance outfit.  Too bad they can’t be combined!

      • Girl_With_a_Pearl

        Agreed!

      • http://eclectictsunami.blogspot.in/ Cassie

Yeah, Dmitry’s was really gorgeous, and impeccably made – it would have moved better, too. I get why Christopher won, but it’s just so stiff.

        • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

I loved Christopher’s — it was beautiful, it was elegant, it was such a great take on an American landmark.  However, when they showed the close-ups on Dmitry’s, it was spectacular too.

I am quite pleased by how often I’d be fine with the top two or three winning, and not because they were all equally bad.

    • ASK26

I like Dmitry’s better.  The top of Christopher’s is good but they bottom needs somethin g

    • alula_auburn

Even in that shot on the runway the detailing on Chris’s dress is getting lost and washed out!  Wonder if there’ll be some “tweaks” before it gets used.

      • emily mcginnis

i agree. i love his concept, but he did not meet the part of the challenge about it having impact in the cheap seats. and i also thought it was kind of odd the way the top and bottom were just put together.

        • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

You’d lose Christopher’s in the far away seats.  Dmitry’s would have been a show-stopper from near and far.

    • ChristinaRi

Christopher deserved it, but the wistful look on Dimtry’s face made me a little sad.

    • MilaXX

Christopher approaches these types of challenges well. He is able to reason on what they judges are looking for. He did the same thing for the Lord & Taylor’s challenge.

      • Kimbolina

He definitely knows how to play the game well.

    • NDC_IPCentral

Well, Christopher’s was quintessentially New York.  I would have liked Dimitry’s to win, though.

OK, down to V and E…..

    • Stubenville

Don’t bore Nina – Ven is toast.

      • cheesebomb

I doubted it right up until Heidi said it directly. I kept expecting some “Ven, we’re giving you one more chance.”

    • ChristinaRi

I don’t know. I used to love Sonjia, but now she’s irritating me a bit.

      • granddelusion

Theyre all irritating at this point. I can’t wait for Chris to shut the fuck up.

        • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

    • http://www.facebook.com/janet.selman Janet Selman

No. F’ing. Way.  I figured Ven for a finalist. Shut the door.

      • MilaXX

I didn’t. Anytime he had to make anything other than that origami rose pattern he floundered. It was a matter of time before that caught up with him.

        • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

          True that!

    • dschubba

Elena’s probably the only person on Earth crying about Ven’s auf.

      • Stubenville

        Tears of joy.

      • Call me Bee

I think Elena’s crying is more relief that she’s not going home than concern for Ven…

        • dschubba

          So do I.

    • EllenS

I never thought I’d be so thrilled to see Elena in, but right call

      • granddelusion

Wrong call. Ven’s dress was boring, but Elena’s sucked ass. She was the clear loser of this challenge. But since they dont judge on the basis of the challenge, it didn’t matter.

        • EllenS

yes, Elena’s sucked more, but she left her wheelhouse and tried something, but they have been dogging Ven to stop being so “one way monkey”.  Since he couldn’t put a rose on it, he did as little as possible.  He bored Nina!

        • CarolinLA

I think Sonjia should’ve gone home.

    • mom2ajs5

Ohh, can’t wait to see Tim’s goodbye to ven!

      • EllenS

        Um- what a nongoodbye….

        • mom2ajs5

I was hoping for a little more snark I guess ;)

          • EllenS

            Same here

    • ChristinaRi

Elena — black hole of attention.

    • Call me Bee

So they stayed true to form–kept crazy and sent home boring.  Whew!  Glad to see that consistancy.

    • http://twitter.com/MarissaRazz707 Marissa

Christopher did have an amazing concept and he did execute it well.  However, one of the criteria for this challenge was something appealing from far away.  From 15 feet away she looks like a washed out gray blob.  Dmitry should have won.  It looked beautiful from afar and the detail up close was great.

      • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

Totally agree that Dmitry should have won.

      • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

Well, I do think Christopher’s was spectacular up close, but Dmitry’s would have popped from near and far away.  Plus, his skirt moved, and Christopher’s didn’t.  But that design of Christopher’s – that cinched it for him, I’m sure.  But I would have loved seeing Dmitry have a second win for something they clearly loved, rather than listen to Christopher’s gushing over himself with his third win.  And I didn’t think he deserved the first two, frankly.

        • DonnaL

Dmitry’s was gorgeous.  I’m sorry he didn’t win.

          • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

            Yeah, I’m sorry too.

        • unbornfawn

Yeah, I’m really over Christopher at this point. They didn’t have a Rockette or anyone who really knew anything about costumes judging. Christopher had the best idea and I liked the NY skyline, but it would be lost by the 5th row. If these really do get made for all the Rockette’s you can count on changes such as the skyline being outlined in black and the cut of the skirt will being changed.

I thought Dmitry’s was beautiful and loved how it moved and liked the navy/black combo.

      • BrooklynBomber

I thought that, too. It was funny when Tim said something about putting stars on it, because it was a daytime skyline. If he’d used dark illusion netting it might have been too skatery, but it would have show from far away. It was great, though; I loved that he put the skyline all the way around. But Dmitry’s was great, too and I thought an equal contender for the win.

      • CarolinLA

Christopher’s would look great up against the red curtain.

    • alula_auburn

This explains his REVENGE OF THE ROSES show.

Ouch, Tim! (He’s definitely not a Ven fan.)

    • http://eclectictsunami.blogspot.in/ Cassie

Ven’s mumbling, irritated “please stop crying” to Elena might be the highlight of my entire life.

      • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

I know, it was about as “Oh, cut the shit!” as you were going to get from Ven.

    • ChristinaRi

Well, ciao Oragami Rose.   I’m glad they showed a nice, sweet side of him before he left.

      • http://twitter.com/LAMusing LAMusing

They did show him being kind a number of times – he actually helped Melissa sewing on her dress and did try to comfort Sonji and Eleni.

    • dschubba

      Oh, god. Baby dolls. No.

    • MilaXX

You can tell Ven doesn’t think he deserved to be auf’d. Since he is auf’d I will say this I took one look at the finale collections and I knew Ven wasn’t a finalist. His collection looks like a giant eff you to the show.

      • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

His finale show read like an already-done bridal/bridesmaid line. It was pretty, but nothing exciting.

    • Maria Rosenfire

Oh for fuck’s sake, way to jump the goddamn shark. Fake babies? I may vomit.

    • cheesebomb

      Just saw next week’s preview.

      Uhhhhhh….WTF?

    • Jasmaree

So next week, they’ll have to take care of fake babies. Can I say that PR has now officially jumped the shark?

    • http://www.facebook.com/xerapis David Louis Quick

Okay, I don’t know if I can watch next week. Baby crying? =shudder=

      • khh1138

I may just have to watch it on mute. Or skip it entirely.

        • http://twitter.com/LAMusing LAMusing

I’m scared and skipping it – I’ll come here to hear what those who are braver than I have to say :)

    • NDC_IPCentral

Heidi’s baby line as the hook for next week, with those faux babies that need attention.  That will be entertaining!

      • http://www.facebook.com/janet.selman Janet Selman

For a little while, maybe. But in what way will it demonstrate their design ability?

        • NDC_IPCentral

Indeed not, Janet, but Bunim-Murray wouldn’t understand “design” if those LA types looked it up in Webster’s AND American Heritage.

“Entertainment” and flummoxing the contestants is what they want to accomplish, especially with this rather low-key (little drama except for Emoting Elena of the Waterworks) episode.

    • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

Baby clothes for next week?  Fucking really?

      • unbornfawn

A new low for Project Runway.

      • MoHub

Likely for Heidi’s Babies R Us line, and the winner’s design will have Heidi’s name slapped on it.

    • Stubenville

Prom Queen another ultra classy Lifetime production. Not.

      • BrooklynBomber

        I know. it’s horrifying.

    • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

“I think the sad part is that I know I could put on an amazing show.”  No, Ven, really now… don’t lie to make yourself feel better.

Though I will miss my running Ven as Batman villain story for the rest of the season.  I was picturing a cross between the Penguin and Poison Ivy.

      • dschubba

He could be King Tut, from the 60s show.

        • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

We’ve been fleshing out a whole storyline for him over the last week — the rose thing was because during the finale show they’d start spinning and hypnotize all of America!  This is how you fill time together as a couple when you’re broke.

        • MoHub

That is an insult to the blessed memory of Victor Buono.

          • dschubba

I’ll withdraw that joke, because Victor Buono was pretty awesome.

            • MoHub

Yes. Yes he was. Have you ever heard his recitation of “The Fat Man’s Prayer”? It’s brilliant.

      • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

i still say he’s the love child of buddha and mr. clean.  unfortunately, he didn’t get the buddha’s disposition.

        • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

Or Mr. Clean’s!  That is one smiley housekeeper!

        • MoHub

           Or Mr. Clean’s slammin’ body.

    • zelavie

I wish they would show the Rockettes wearing the outfit.  Likewise when they have “design for a celebrity” challenges.  They used to have a shot of this at the end of the episode, but not for several seasons.

    • ChristinaRi

Look!   Next week there is a challenge Elena doesn’t like.   Shocker.

    • emily mcginnis

seriously? baby clothing? with babies, simple and comfortable is better. and frankly, that’s not all that exciting. what is there to design really?

      • alula_auburn

I was buying baby clothes for my niece and I found honest-to-God skinny jeans.  In 12 month size.  With no crotch snaps or anything for diaper changes.  WTF.

        • MilaXX

           I’ve seen those

        • dschubba

          Ugh.

        • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

Actually, I loved those when my daughter was younger.  They were the only thing that fit and stayed on her, because her legs have always been really long for her height and weight.

          • alula_auburn

Interesting! To me they just seemed like such a nightmare to take on and off a dozen times a day for nappy changes (my niece is tres European.)

        • http://twitter.com/LAMusing LAMusing

did they have platform shoes to go with them?

      • CarolinLA

I think it would be hilarious if they had to make model-sized baby clothes.

        • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

That’s so bizarre, I kind of love it!

      • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

Oh, it could be like the most insane gift I got once.  It was a sweater sleeper with matching booties, from Laura Ashley.  It was beautiful and soft.  It was also a 3 month size, with BUTTONS instead of snaps up the inseam.  Yes, that’s what I want to do at every diaper change, try to button a sweater on kicking baby legs.

3 boys later and I think it’s been worn twice.

    • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

NOOOOO!! Not another Heidi “design for my line” challenge!!

      • http://twitter.com/LAMusing LAMusing

I’m so completely uninterested in baby fashions and watching the poor designers stuck with doll babies that scream and cry and need changed and burped (all while they struggle to actually design and construct) that I’m planning on just catching the comments here and passing on watching next week.

      • MoHub

Sure looks that way! And I find the crying dolls frightening for some reason. How many actual baby-clothing designers work in a studio full of howling infants?

    • Pupioso

I liked Christophers design but honestly the color is terrible. It will not look that great from a distance. The design of the top part was great. The bottom, meh. Not the greatest.

It was time for Ven to go. That having been said Elena’s was simply terrible, but largely because the whole Rockette thing is flashy schtick she barely passed. Ven’s was drab and boring so I get it.

I also didn’t get that Fabio was in the middle. He should have been in the bottom as well.

      • MilaXX

I’m assuming they will adjust it like they did Austin”s dress for the last All Star season.  However on my screen Christopher’s costume read silver, not white.

        • Pupioso

That would make sense. If they adjust the color and maybe the bottom a bit, I think it will be great. Like I said I thought the design concept was great for the Rockettes. Even though it was a very literal design, he pulled it off and in the context of RCMH and the Rockettes it works. If they adjust the color a bit and the bottom that would make sense.

    • SewingSiren

Next week would totally be my challenge. I can do anything with a baby attached to me . I’m not lying.

      • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

Absolutely.  I find it funny that they did this in a season with no parents left (or so I assume since no one has mentioned a kid.)

        • MoHub

Heidi has enough kids for everybody!

        • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

I think you’re right, I don’t think any of them have kids, not of the ones left, anyway.

          • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

You know we’d have heard about it if they did — B/M would be getting them all on camera carrying on about missing them so much, and how “I have to do this for them, to make them proud”…

            • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

Exactly – B/M and Lifetime eat that “I miss my kid” shit up with a spoon.

      • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

i don’t know if i can even watch next week.  i can’t stand to hear a baby crying.

        • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

           You don’t fly much, huh?

        • SewingSiren

I can. And  irating noises that toys make don’t bother me a fig either.

      • NCDFan

I hear you. They need to whip up a couple of baby slings.

    • BobStPaul

Ven’s was worse than Sonija’s or Elena’s?  Hardly.  Just another example of producer manipulation.  Fortunately, having seen the finale collections, I don’t particularly care.

      • DonnaL

Or maybe (gasp!)  the judges actually disagreed with you?  I certainly did.  Ven’s was ridiculously dull.  A complete failure to meet the challenge.

        • BobStPaul

Did I say it wasn’t dull?  No.  It was and it didn’t really meet the challenge. Regardless, it moved well and it was less tacky than either of the other two bottom dwellers.

        • AnneElliot

Boring is the kiss of death with the judges.  It’s much better to be way over the top and take a chance than to be safe and boring.  And Heidi was right, without the origami technique, he had no range.  The only time he DIDN”T do some kind of folding or pleating technique was the real woman challenge, and that was even worse.  He just gave up.

          • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

If they had loved everything else he’d done, they’d have let him skate on the boring.  But he’s been in the bottom before, just last week for being boring!

            • 3boysful

I agree with his auf for boring and failure to meet the challenge terms.  It pains me to admit, however, I would buy a cocktail dress based on his design because I look good in that halter cut, and I LOVED his fabric.  Just wasn’t exciting enough for a costume.

            • MoHub

Eck-zack-ly! Here is a show in which designs are often criticized for being too costumey, and for once, a costume is called for, so Ven makes a dress. I can’t imagine his design having any impact whatsoever in a stage production.

    • ChristinaRi

I noticed that the big draped chandelier in the TLo Lounge this week looks kind of like Christopher’s fabric in this episode.

    • SewingSiren

As to this challenge. I thought Dmitry had the better outright dance dress for a Rockette. But Christopher had the better hook. It was the best dress that he designed all season. I haven’t agreed with any of his wins. The judges really love him for some reason that I can’t figure out.
Ven’s dress was boring. But Sonjia’s was worse. The judges were punishing Ven for his transgression from the real woman’s friend makeover (what ever the hell) challenge.

      • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

Do you get that, too?  I mean, it’s so obvious that Christopher is this season’s pet. I just don’t get it.

        • http://profile.yahoo.com/6PQUNH7VYANAXMRMEEM763V3EU victor liu

          I smell another Anya.

The worst part is that his collection is actually okay, and will most likely beat out Sonjia’s, Dmitry’s, and Melissa’s collections, since I’m sensing that Fabio and Elena aren’t much longer for this competition (YET THEY HAVE THE BEST COLLECTIONS. WHAT. THE. FUCK. JUDGES.).

          • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

Not anything new there.  See Daniel V’s collection in S2 vs. Kara’s decoy, or Laura Kathleen’s decoy last season, or Michael Knight’s final collection — there are some designers who really excel at the challenge format who flounder when left on their own and vice versa.

        • bitchybitchybitchy

Christopher will fit right in with designing cute little cocktail and business dresses for the Lord & Taylor clientele.

      • ChristinaRi

They were punishing him for that and for the repeated roses.

He also didn’t have a personality to charm the judges and didn’t have a schtick like some other designers who have been able to talk so much the judges just gave in.

I’m ok with Elena staying only because her final collection is so good.  But, she hasn’t shown much so far on the show, imo.  Also Sonjia’s was nearly offensively bad.   I think she was kept on the strength of her previous work.

        • http://profile.yahoo.com/6PQUNH7VYANAXMRMEEM763V3EU victor liu

To be perfectly honest, Elena’s aesthetic isn’t really fit for this show. She complains about that fact way too much, but it’s true.

          • ChristinaRi

I agree with you about Elena.  On the other hand she came on this show knowing what it was and wanting the boost the show could giver her.  She’s making the choice to be angry about the challenges and the judging and the other contestants.   I think that’s mainly out of fear of failure.  I’m hoping she can pull it together and find a way to compromise.  I believe she’s beginning to do that.

My point was that the judges don’t have a lot from her up to this point that would make them give her a break.

            • http://profile.yahoo.com/6PQUNH7VYANAXMRMEEM763V3EU victor liu

I thought her final collection showed a lot of growth and response to criticism by making everything marketable, so I expected her to have a win or at least a couple more highs under her belt by now.

Sadly she’s probably getting the auf next week unless she comes up with some crazy fabulous baby outfit.

            • ChristinaRi

I hope she doesn’t get the auf because her collection is really good and I’d like to see it on TV.    I’m sick of her in the show though.

            • http://profile.yahoo.com/6PQUNH7VYANAXMRMEEM763V3EU victor liu

              She’s getting better.

Clearly she got the redemption edit tonight, continuing her “I’m actually not a bitch” arc from last week. She was unbearable during her second team challenge, but her moodiness is more understandable in other episodes.

            • MoHub

But I still like her better bitchy than maudlin.

            • CozyCat

I will say for her that despite the fact that she bitched about this challenge, she really tried to get into the spririt of the thing.  I think that’s why she stayed over Ven–she let the show know that she will at least try to meet every challenge on its own terms.

        • BrooklynBomber

I agree; I think they were punishing him more for boring them than for anything else.  But I think Elena’s sob story on the runway influenced them, because they praised her for listening to their criticisms and trying to do something different, but they didn’t praise Ven for that, even though he did the same.  Neither did it successfully, but hers really did look like a band costume, whereas his looked like a decent-looking (if a bit blah, and super short) dress. That doesn’t mean I wanted her auf’ed more than him — I’d have been okay with either under the circumstances.

        • kismet026

Yes, I’m also hoping Elena continues because of her final collection, and I really want it to be eligible to win (and I want to watch it on my TV!). But I would hope that she’d start putting out pieces on the show more akin to the collection along the way, or else she won’t be a finalist.

        • SewingSiren

What Ven’s dress needed was white fur trim. And snowflakes…lots and lots of snow flakes. Then it would be perfect for the Rockettes.

      • MoHub

At least Sonjia and Elena attempted to incorporate the glitz even if they were uncomfortable with it. Ven, on the other hand, not only didn’t start with a glitz factor, he actually, adamantly refused to go in that direction. He’s a stubborn, narcissistic SOB and totally lacks awareness of and respect for anything outside himself.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_OQG2B3GDOIKSFYT6YDXFVOMEM4 A. Lure

Melissa’s was gross: pillow-like bodice, a sequined 1, and a bare ass. Yikes!
Sonjia’s was even worse. Anyone can stick feathers on tacky fabric.
Ven’s had little to no design, but at least the execution wasn’t atrocious.
Elena’s was badly designed and poorly fitted, but it had a sort of graphic impact.
I can’t recall Fabio’s. I knew he’d have a hard time working with glitter as he works with matte fabrics and muted tones.
Chris’ was good: not the best, but the second best. The approach was very literal, but he did put a lot of work into the execution.
      Dmitry’s was the clear winner.

    • guest2visits

Dimitry for the win, I think.   Great movement and sleek beauty; easily seen and appreciated from up close and far away.
Christopher’s idea was very good also (though there is something so retro about the design; I feel I’ve already seen it before) -
and he created so well; except the skirt portion didn’t work so well for me – I thought it was about high-kickability. I think it
would have been better if he had kept the original pleated or string skirt concept. I loved the way he finished off the neck.
I thought Sonjia’s was the auf. Very sad that it was just not a workable design at all for the challenge, not attractive, and not
made well.  I thought Ven’s was a better design, just not a winning one.

    • dharmabum8

I want Dmitry saying oh baby to be my ringtone. He is lord of the deadpan. I’m starting to feel like this season is Costello Lite’s to lose.

    • MoHub

Did anyone else look at Christopher’s dress and have a flashback to Jay McCarroll’s Banana Republic homage to the Chrysler Buioding?

      • dharmabum8

Totally, but Jay’s piece wasn’t as literal an interpretation.

      • BrooklynBomber

Well, sure. I don’t think you can do a building or skyline reference w/o causing people to think of Jay’s design, and wondering if Christopher was influenced by that. Fortunately for Christopher, he put his own spin on it.

        • MoHub

Jay’s Chrysler Building design remains my all-time favorite thing ever to appear on Project Runway, with Andrae’s “gutter-water” gown a close second. In fact most of my favorite designs come from the Bravo years.

          • BrooklynBomber

I don’t know if I have all time faves, but I agree those are two of the great ones.

            • bitchybitchybitchy

Those two dresses are among the most memorable PR designs-and if I remember correctly, neither won the challenge for which they were created..please correct me if I’m wrong.

            • BrooklynBomber

I know Jay’s didn’t win; Daniel whatsisname’s did (and I saw it in a Banana store and I hate to say it but it was awful); pretty sure Andrae’s didn’t win, but i don’t remember whose did.

            • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

I think it was Wendy who won the BR challenge in season 1.

    • CarolinLA

I get what they’re saying:  without the origami rose thing, Ven’s got nothing but blah.  How can a designer do just one thing?  At least Christopher hasn’t done his shredding technique lately.  Man, Ven’s collection is really passive-aggressive.

    • CarolinLA

Elena goes off the rails when she doesn’t create chaos in the workroom.  That is definitely a part of her process.

      • kismet026

I don’t think so, I thought her look last week was her best so far, and she was pretty mellow (for Elena) due to her mother’s visit. I think she just over-thought this one, and tried too hard to show she could do something different.

    • CarolinLA

Melissa’s was so stupid with that high collar.  I’m sick of seeing that.  And she was in the top!

      • unbornfawn

Agreed. I thought it was awful. The placement of the black bits didn’t make any sense either.

      • Judy_S

Yeah–I kept thinking towards the end of the “interview” part of the judging, so Dmitry and Christopher are in the top, but who else?

      • bitchybitchybitchy

For me Melissa’s design was bottom three-she wasn’t successful in creating a costume in which the Rockettes could perform-she seemed to be really out of her element, and it showed, especially with her adding her trademark wonky neckline treatment.  Ven was justifiably criticized for his overuse of the pleated rose technique, and Melissa ought to be held accountable for not meeting the requirements of this challenge.

    • http://twitter.com/angelestrails Natasha

I might need to watch next week’s episode on mute, except when Dmitry speaks des bons mots. I wanted my favorite Belarusian to win; exquisitely constructed, beautiful color, great movement, etc. I thought it was a great *dance* costume. As for Costello-lite, I concede, he had a great concept, design, and styling……even if it would’ve look bland from a distance…..  :)

Praise be, Ven is gone, but my satellite service died before his aufing. Hope I didn’t miss too much!!

      • ChristinaRi

You missed Elena crying like she was the one who was aufed and weeping in Ven’s arms.   He told her to stop crying.

    • Pupioso

I honestly had Elena, Fabio, Sonji and Ven in the bottom along with Melissa. Well I guess you can give Melissa a pass but I didn’t think it was that great. I get that it was snappy in color, maybe that’s the only reason they gave her a pass on it. That neckline thing she does needs to go. Seriously.

      • MoHub

Melissa’s had nothing in the way of the kind of lines needed for a dance costume. The lines would have distorted badly every time the wearer moved, and I’m not sure one could dance smoothly in it in the first place.

Picasso designed the original costumes for The Miraculous Mandarin, but like Melissa’s design, they worked only if the dancers were standing stock-still and facing the audience full front. The minute they moved, the designs went to pot, and the costumes had to be reworked to make them stage- and choreography-friendly.

    • CarolinLA

It’s amazing that Elena has gotten this far without winning a challenge.  How many times has she been on top?

      • http://profile.yahoo.com/6PQUNH7VYANAXMRMEEM763V3EU victor liu

        Only once.

If her final collection is any indication, Elena’s an excellent designer who’s terrible at playing the game.

    • CarolinLA

Dmitry’s was just a little too hard.  I think of the Rockettes as being more flirty.

      • MoHub

My reaction as well. I think Dmitry’s might have worked in a darker, edgier situation, but that’s not for the Rockettes’ family-oriented image. As you said, they’re flirty but not seductive.

    • http://profiles.google.com/bratling2 Laura Davies

Sonji was too good to go, Elena is the season drama queen, and despite the unfortunate number 1 on hers, Melissa has yet to bore them.  I was shocked that Christopher’s turned out as well as it did–just from the initial drawing, it had hot mess written all over it.  Personally, I thought that Dmitry had a leg up once he mentioned his past as a ballroom dancer. Frankly, that dress of his probably wouldn’t be out of place on Dancing with the Stars. Would’ve been great on the Rockettes.  The movement of that skirt!  Fabio’s, well, I was shocked it was safe.  That one was a train wreck!

All in all, I’m not surprised that Ven was AUF’ed.  You can scrape by on a bad design… as long as you don’t bore them over and over!

      • http://twitter.com/neeBarbero Debby Griffiths

I thought Fabio’s looked like a Roman armor.  I fully expected Heidi to say “you’re out” when she called his name…was wondering why the change in format as a matter of fact!  I’m casting Dmitry as Mondo for this season.  He has been robbed SO many times, and this was clearly one of them!  The skirt on Christopher’s was a disaster, the slit way too high, and no movement in it at all.  Yes, the top was inspired, and the stones for stars was gorgeous, but it was only 1/2 elegant, whereas Dmitry’s was 100%  WOW!

    • DeTrop

Dmitry’s outfit was perfectly beautiful.  It has show stopper written all over it.  He chose the perfect material for his design and it showed as elegant and edgy.  The judges thought it may have been too sophisticated for the average audience.  They may be right.  Too bad though, I loved it.  Chris did a great job and showed some serious creativity.  I thought it was a toss between Dmitry and Chris for the win.  Melissa’s wasn’t too horrible.  At least it had color and contrast.  Ven’s fabric was beautiful, but the design was blah. The rest of the designers came up with some ‘serious ugly’.
(Thank you Laura Bennett for that expression).  Fabio, Sonjia and Elena are very lucky they didn’t get auf’d.  I really enjoyed this episode.

    • kismet026

Okay, so be gentle, but I really am loving Elena. I think that the visit with her mother last week did her so much good, and she really changed her outlook. Yes, she’ll always be a drama queen, but I find her to be an endearing drama queen. I think seeing her so carefree now, along with her negativity before, wrapped together with her experience with her mom gives a fuller picture of Elena as a person. I’m sure in real life the dichotomy between the carefree and the negative isn’t as pronounced, and she’s probably a more well-rounded drama queen and a lot of fun to know.

I do think the deciding factor in her success on the show will be next week – she has to have learned from everything so far. She went from under-thinking and staying so firmly in her comfort zone to over-thinking and reaching too far unsuccessfully this week. To me, her most successful look was last week, when it seems she was mid-transition. If she can find a happy medium, I think there’s still hope for her on the show.

In other words, please don’t hate me because Elena is my favorite Eastern European on the show!

Please please producers.  Send the designers out drinking every week.  This way they can drunkenly kiss and make up and all the drama is about the challenge, instead of the snark.

I like, but it also was drama, explaining why Elena hugged Ven on the runway. It was just a rather sweet drama, instead of the snark. We ARE getting to see more of the workroom process, but I think that’s because there are so few designers that dang, they have to fill up that hour with something and it might as well be draping, pattern pieces, and ye olde glue gun.

all we need on top of the screaming, whining designers is a bunch of screaming and whining babies.  i may have to wear earplugs.  i guess i could just turn off the sound.

It wouldn’t be PR if Heidi didn’t demand a challenge to create a free design for another of her enterprises.  And no, Heidi, I will not buy anything “designed” by you for my adorable toddler niece-at 18 months her taste is so much better than Ms. Klum’s.

Dmitry’s outfit was gorgeous and ready to go on stage right now.  Fabulous!  Christopher’s concept of the skyline was spot on perfect for the Rockettes although the dress as is had issues – the skirt had no movement and from a distance the skyline will disappear (I ran a theatre company in a large theatre for 20 years and that dress would wash out completely on stage)  HOWEVER, with some tweaking Christopher’s would be so perfect for the image of the Rockettes that there was no way they could NOT use it!  I guarantee unless it’s a meet and greet they will make modifications to the skirt and change the colors or trim to make that skyline pop.  We all know the Rockettes management had input on the final choice and they just couldn’t pass that idea up!

Sonji’s dress was one of the most awful things I’ve seen walk down the PR runway.  Eleni’s was an elegant masterpiece and Ven’s was a riveting design compared to the unflattering bizarre big purple bird outfit.  But of course at this point the auf is based on more factors than what they actually sent down the runway.

Combine Chris’ skyline with Dmitry’s midnight blue, add a “river” of blues & silvers, and it’s perfect.

Also, his model was styled like a 30′s movie queen, which was spot on.

Yes!  During the runway I said to my friend – if it was in nighttime colors it would be stunning.

I should have read your post before I wrote my thoughts on Christopher…right above your very same and more expertly stated thoughts!

That’s what I though about Dmitry’s. It’s an actual dance costume, perhaps a little to sophisticated for the Rockattes (and the judges). Christopher’s was a Halloween costume representing a dancer. The skyline bodice was his best idea yet, though. This was his most deserved win. I’ll give them that.
Elena’s looked very much like a twirler. But a lot of the Rockette’s costumes do too. Including the ones that they are wearing in the above pic.
Ven’s just needed accessories. Snowflakes and white fur.
Sonjia’s I can’t see how to save. She’s a good designer. But got badly lost in this challenge.

But that would have negated the criterion that the costume be appropriate for year-round use.

No.  Dmitry’s outfit was way more chic and modern — and Christopher Palu’s barely moved.  They just wanted to give the win to the stupid schtick.

      • mhleta

I liked the idea of Christopher’s dress very much but it had zero contrast or color and washed out the wearer completely. I seriously doubt anyone more than ten rows back would be able to tell that was the skyline. It would just look like a shiny white-ish dress. On the other hand 30 of Dmitry’s dresses swishing around on the stage? Visually spectacular. It’s actually the perfect ballroom costume and I bet he’s made that exact thing before. He clearly knew what he was doing without question.

We were actually at that very lounge ! on this very night – the three SATC-type (in our minds, anyway) chicks at the end of the bar.  Love the whole Cosmo Resort!

      (but missed the show)

Anyone notice Dmitry’s appreciation of Heidi’s cleavage? He let his eyes linger there for a good little while, didn’t he?

      • MoHub

Well, she was practically falling out of that dress.

        • DonnaL

I guess I always assumed that he’s gay, but maybe not.

          • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_UCLO5V2YD36T7QMPKOC7YXPOFU Erica

I actually asked my husband last night, is Dimitry not gay?  I think it’s sometimes harder to tell, cross-culturely speaking.

            • mhleta

I would give someone’s left nut to see him do a tango with Anya from So You Think You Can Dance. I bet he’s fairly hot on the dance floor.

          • MoHub

I think Dmitry may be the season’s requisite straight guy. There’s pretty much one every year.

    • afabulous50

I have downloaded the Tim Gun photo and as God is my witness this WILL be my holiday card this year.  Now I just have to think of a witty caption!

Oh, and I forgot to add – how hilarious is it that mellow, laid-back Fabio and droll, dry-sense-of-humor Dmitry are now living in the same apartment with LIZA!!!  Yeah, the oxygen in THAT room is gonna get used up in a hurry!

    • Truly_Outrageous

The show is an hour and a half. Why the producers didnt show any scenes of the designers dancing on stage is a total “hey what the hell” moment for me. Im sure Magical Elves would’ve put in at least a couple minutes of this worthy moment (I just wanted to see Fabio dance. And Ven. Of course).
