Hello, kittens.

The Art Room, Paris

We are heading home from Fashion Week, to our real-world kittens and their no doubt lousy attitudes after 8 nights of us not serving as their personal mattresses. We are also heading home and practically jumping (if we can muster the energy) into shitty shorts, ratty t-shirts, and flip-flops. Also: 40 loads of laundry and a dry cleaning bill we don’t even want to contemplate.

Guest judges Anya Ayoung Chee and Mondo Guerra, Nina Garcia, Michael Kors and Heidi Klum from the ninth challenge of Project Runway season 10.

Our point is, we’re exhausted and there’s a power nap in our near future. A power nap positively covered in cats.

Talk amongst yourselves. Regular posting will commence on the morrow with a scathingly brilliant ripping of tonight’s episode.

Ah, relax, gentlemen. We will hold the candle of bitchery high, along with our crystal flutes of champagne! Paris! We’re back in Paris! I can truly enjoy myself. Garçon? Pâté si’l vous plait.

      • NDC_IPCentral

Oh, don’t you WISH you were in Paris, Kiltd?  Since pâté de fois gras is now illegal in your state-o’-residence.  The moral conundrum of extraordinary dining and the treatment of the geese.  Quelle dommage.

        • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Do NOT get me started on a rant about this subject, which could wax distressingly political. Instead, we will enjoy our gustatory delights in sybaritic Paris! Quelle sublime’!

          • Kristin McNamara

Damn, you have an EXTRAORDINARY vocabulary.

            • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Well, at nearly 3 million terms, English is the largest and most facile of languages, it does seem a waste not to avail yourself of it. I have my wonderful parents to thank for it all.

        • alyce1213

Please forgive me, I’d never do this ordinarily, but the French tutor in me is screaming out — it’s  foie gras! Quel dommage!
          L’orthographe, chatons amers.

I wish I were in Paris as well.

          • NDC_IPCentral

My four years of Latin and year and a half of Greek (40 years+ ago) are betraying my lack of familiarity with modern Romance languages!  Thanks, Alyce, I appreciate the correction.

            • alyce1213

Latin + Greek (ancient?)! Quite impressive.

            • NDC_IPCentral

Youthful aspirations to be a classics major for a brief time in the late 1960s.  Thucydides did me in with the classical Greek, though.  I did revel in Caesar’s Gallic Wars and the Aeneid during Latin in prep school.  Ah, those halcyon days of my second decade.  SO long ago.

            • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

Oh, I loved Latin!  I only got to take it for a semester before returning to a school populated by one very large family (everyone was someone else’s cousin — I was afraid to date in high school for fear of getting pregnant with three eared baby), but it was so nice.  There were no accents to learn and be told I was saying it wrong about.  I miss that…

            • NDC_IPCentral

Shannon, I really learned English grammar by taking Latin, since declensions and conjugations are governed by strict rules.  Not many folks, however, now know about the ablative case, hence the horror of, for example: “between you and I…”  ACK.

            • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

Oh, you’re preaching to the choir, honey.  I got absolutely incensed last year that they have not taught my son what punctuation marks actually mean — they are there to tell you the proper way of reading the sentence!  If there is a comma, there must be a pause!

They had him putting words into sentences that make sense but they never taught him sentence structures.  Oh, it’s so upsetting having a small child in school today.

            • formerlyAnon

Oh, fear not. My knowledge of grammar rules is spotty (I honestly think we un-learned grammar & usage in middle school) even though I lived in a nice suburb-ish neighborhood and attended school 40+ years ago, when some would have us believe schools were universally better. (HA!) And yet, when I try, I can write correctly because of extensive exposure to correct writing. If the kids read enough, they’ll do well. Even better if their family members speak more or less correctly.

(ETA: I will NOT make myself crazy editing the above to improve the writing just because I foolishly claim therein that I know how to write correctly. I will NOT.)

            • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

They also wanted him to write 3 sentence responses without having taught him paragraph structure.

This all sounds like nitpicky stuff, but he has true ADD — which means he physically can’t memorize something if he’s not tuned in.  He has to actually be TAUGHT a concept, not just indoctrinated.  Every math problem is figured rather than simply responding by rout, every spelling list has to be analyzed for what rules are in play.  He learned to recognize every letter and all of their sounds before being able to recite the alphabet.

When you then add in that he’s a born people pleaser and perfectionist, that kind of thing is simply nightmarish.  And if you really want to see true torment in a child with ADD, take away his meds and ask him to alphabetize a list of spelling words.

            • formerlyAnon

He’s fortunate to have an informed and caring parent. My brother had a variety of learning issues back when they were mostly undiagnosed (early 60s) and I can still get sick to my stomach thinking back over some of the psychological misery he went through. It contributed to life long issues I don’t think he will ever surmount.

            • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

I’m very lucky that I have a close friend with ADD, so I knew what to look for — like people think it’s a total lack of focus and it’s not; a lot of ADD patients have LASER FOCUS on one particular subject, on which they can pay attention to for hours on end and become borderline obsessive about.  That was one of the first signs for us.  By the age of 3, he couldn’t say his ABC’s, complete a simple ABABA pattern, or count past 6, but he could read any dinosaur name, tell you all about them and identify the slightest differences between species.

And I know what you mean about your parents.  I asked my mother once how she didn’t realize something was wrong with me, shortly after starting treatment for major depressive disorder and a boatload of associated problems.  Her response was “honestly, I knew there was something wrong, but I had no idea what to do about it.”

          • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_PVIY3NBCZJAJNFWDBCWG2DMKL4 Jen R

I’m glad you did it, as the French teacher in me was dying to do it. Sorry, but old habits die hard.

          • KathKo

             Thank you for the correction.
While I find Kiltdntiltd and NDC_IPCentral taste in food irrreprochable, I was cringing reading their french.
By the way, “paté de foie gras” does indeed exists. The term just means the preparation contains less than 50% of foie gras in it.
But a real foie gras is so much better, be it “mi-cuit” or “cuit”. Such a delight.
I understands animal protection’s concern, but I can’t help loving foie gras. So delicious.

      • muzan-e

To my regret, I am reminded that during our much-dreamed-off visit to Paris we fully intend to finally behold the Presse à Canard at the Tour d’Argent.  Regret, because we’re about to eat dinner, and nothing’ll turn you off dinner quite like the memories of that dish…

        I’m so sorry.  *g*

        • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Oh, don’t be sorry in the least!

    • Martha Deutsch

Oh look, Anya. The reason I don’t watch Project Runway  anymore!

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_3JSTXMWWVZN2QNP2UEKJMTWD7U Isabel

        Her hair, her head. Yikes

        • NDC_IPCentral

Y’ know, as I look at Anya’s self-conscious asymmetrical hairdo (with my having very little hair now, though it is beginning to grow), I wonder whether her head really feels unbalanced.  That’s a LOT of hair on one side and zippo on the other.  Her skull should be tipping over to the long-hair side….

I have no idea why she thinks this is a good look, but then again, she’s the “TV personality” now, not I……

          • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

“I look edgy, you guys, right?  RIght???”

            • bitchybitchybitchy

I know that this look is something of a signature for Anya, but it does look a tad extreme.

            • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

It looks silly.  An extreme hairstyle like that, when done for one’s own enjoyment, is quickly boring and switched to something new.  Keeping it as a branding devise just makes you look stupid — it’s like the kid who never figures out that doing what he’s told not to do as an act of rebellion still means someone else is dictating his path.

        • UsedtobeEP

          And her side boob.

        • EveEve

And she STILL can’t make sleeves. I was looking forward to tonight’s episode until I saw her punim up there.

          • Lisa_Cop

Really what kind of critique can she (who can’t make a sleeve or insert a zipper) provide. I’m pissed off already. No better than a clueless celebrity. But at least Mondo is there.

      • RebeccaKW

Anya’s criticism’s will be ”I don’t care for the styling, she doesn’t have a faux-hawk” and “Why are there sleeves on everything…and zippers…and all the stitching!  Everything is overworked!”

        • AthenaJ

          THIS!

        • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

Don’t be ridiculous — Anya doesn’t think her work is GOOD.  Remember her main requirement for the Lexus challenge?  “Don’t make it look like something I would do.”

      • SewingSiren

Well the judges seemed to think she was good at picking printed fabric out.

        • quiltrx

That was, indeed, her only talent.

    • mjude

i am exhausted so i think i need a comforting drink.  any suggestions?  safe travels tlo!

      • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Need you even ask? I saved a chair for you. The bubbly is already open.

        • Call me Bee

If it’s ok–I’ll join you as well.  I have another bottle open–we’ll need a few to get thru an episode with Anya…

          • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Plenty of room at the table! Yeah, with Anya part of the proceedings I will need to excessively smashed. Her? A judge?!!!!!!!

            • Call me Bee

              Yes.  I am depressed.

            • mjude

i hope we dont have to hear much from anya.

            • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

I hope we hear tons — imagine the mocking that will ensue… it’ll be an epic lounge night:P

            • formerlyAnon

Exactly why I am reading all the way through these comments, though the show aired a couple of hours ago and I missed both it and TLounge. (Sometimes the people in my life don’t remember to schedule around PR, or more importantly TLounge! I know. Hard to imagine.)

            • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

I never mind missing the show, but I always have to read the comments here!

            • EveEve

Maybe it’s a sarong challenge where the contestants have to drape everything, and not use sleeves or zippers.   What a waste of time to have her up there, when there are so many real designers in NY from whom to choose.

            • bitchybitchybitchy

I think we’re all going to need lots of alcohol to survive Anya’s appearance.

        • mjude

i am on my way my friend!

          • Call me Bee

If you were here in Cheeseland, the most comforting thing you can drink is brandy.  It’s warm and sweet and tasty on the rocks.  Major comfort.

            Or…beer!  :)

            • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

Of course, you’d also have to wear a ghastly color palette since football season has begun.

            • Call me Bee

Well–I never do.  Those are just not my colors.  I’m a Winter.  (Though I have been seen in the blue and gold of the baseball team…I am NOT a football fan at all.)

            • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

There is a reason that my beloved Bears tee is gray instead of team colors — they’re horrid.  I maintain that the start of the rivalry was an ugly color contest that they tied in, so they keep trying to settle it on the field.

            • Call me Bee

You are so right about that!  LOL…

            • Spicytomato1

At least blue and orange are (theoretically) complimentary. Green and gold? *Shudders*

            • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

My sister-in-law is a Packer fan (I’ve tried to convince her to develop a drug addiction or loose moral fiber instead, it’d be preferable;) and she insists on dressing my adorable nephew in Packer gear.  I told her to stop because he was too cute for that and she thought it was because of the team.  I had to explain that no, it was because it was ugly and there’s a reason why my children do not own Bears clothing.

        • RebeccaKW

Please save a chair for me and lovely glass of bubbly!

          • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

            Naturalment’

      • call_me_schmeg

vodka with a splash of vodka.

        • mjude

          LOL!

      • Sartorial_She

Is there anything other than a French 75 made with Hendrick’s gin and homemade lemon simple syrup? Careful: 1 is not enough, and 2 is too many!

    • Call me Bee

Ahhh Paris.  Would that I could really be here.
Anyway…go ahead and sleep, my friends.  You certainly deserve it.  Meanwhile, we’ll break out the bubbly to commemorate your fabulous week of fabulousness.   Veuve Cliqout for everyone!!
Happy to see Mondo again, and since my mum always told me to either say something nice or say nothing at all…I’m not sayin’ nuthin’ about that other person on the judging panel. (…shudder…)

    • Clueless_Jock

When are you moving to NYC?

      • AthenaJ

Shhh!! Philly will never give up its golden boys. Never!!!

    • http://twitter.com/democracydiva Democracy Diva

Welcome home, boys! You fucking deserve a night off, decked in decades-old sweatpants and Chinese takeout and mewing kittens (both of the feline and human variety) telling you how pretty you are. Mwah!

    • SteveKl

I love the awesome Kors reaction in the screenshot in the lifetime video window above.

      • Spicytomato1

I know. It almost begs for a caption contest, a la the New Yorker. Anyone?

    • OwnsHairlessCats

I’m in for the party! Best wishes on the homecoming TLO…hopefully the kitties don’t ignore you (as only cats can) to make you pay for being away!

    • ThaliaMenninger

I love Mondo, but it looks decidedly weird for Ms. No Sleeves to be sitting next to Mr. No Pants. Not that No Pants is his design aesthetic like No Sleeves is hers, but it still looks weird.

As for Ms. No Sleeves being there at all… At least they didn’t bring back Gretchen. I’m taking that as a bonus.

      • Call me Bee

Oh my gosh I would have fainted dead away if she were sitting on the panel.  Dead.  Away.

      • kimmeister

I saw Mondo and immediately starting thinking, “if you dare wear short shorts, Nair for short shorts.”

        • Call me Bee

I’m probably one of the few here who remember that…  LOL…

          • SapphoPoet

            I remember it!

          • NDC_IPCentral

Oh, I do, too, and man, that stuff STUNK with an acridity that should have taken out the nose hairs as a freebie.

            • SapphoPoet

Oh, I know. I used it once and couldn’t stand the smell.

            • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

I couldn’t stand the not-working part.  They’ve improved slightly but you better have some weak ass hair if you want Nair to get rid of it.  (I have tried everything known to man because I have very white skin and very black hair)

            • LesYeuxHiboux

It works for me (I have light, baby fine leg hair), but I won’t use it anymore because I am convinced that the horrible smell is it melting my skin along with my hair. Cannot be good for the skin.

            • Sweetbetty

What do all you who don’t use Nair use, especially for facial hair?

            • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

I use the Sally Hansen wax strips.  I have fair skin and dark hair, so I have to.  They work pretty well – I’ve been using them for so long, I’ve killed most of the follicles along my upper lip, so I barely have to wax my “lady-stache” anymore.

            • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

I use wax for everything.  I really like sugar wax, because it’s easier clean up.  I will say, though, that waxing your armpits is ridiculously painful.

            • muzan-e

Another pale and dark-haired person, and as a youngster there was only one – one – solution I tried which was worse than Nair. It was an abrasive mitt roughly equivalent to a fine-grade sandpaper; it fit over the hand, the general idea being to sand the hair off your legs.

Goes right down to the roots! they said.
              Swift yet gentle! they said.

              Those bastards.

            • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

See, I’ve used some of those recently that aren’t bad — I really like them for the few stray hairs that waxing leaves behind and makes my skin ridiculously smooth.

            • piperkitty

Tried that too. I might as well have used the sander with 60 grit sandpaper.

          • ThaliaMenninger

Oh, I remember it! I think I was in college then.

            • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

              I remember it too!

          • alyce1213

            I do, all too well.

          • Sweetbetty

             I’m one more!

          • piperkitty

Only too well, all that rockett high kicking.

      • janierainie

Good gawd! Bite your tongue with that Gretchen talk! (Love your name by the way)

      • AnneElliot

At least Mondo knows how to SEW pants.  He just chooses not to wear them.

    • greyhoundgirl

Look!  Anya still doesn’t know how to make sleeves!

      • Sara__B

I read an on-line article about a mini-collection she showed during Fashion Week, and the photos showed a few silky-looking “blazers” with sleeves.

    • AthenaJ

Check out Mondo serving up more leg than Heidi! You go girl :)

Let’s see how long it will take Anya to manipulate Mondo into sewing sleeves onto her dress…

    • Wellworn

Ah Anya.  The other day I was watching the marathon of Season 4.  I started my love of PR with Season 3, and Season 4 was just as good.  What great contestants, and such a high level of talent, culminating in a win for Princess Puffysleeves.  He has gone on to great success, and well deserved.  But I digress..back to Anya – Princess Nosleeves, the antithesis of the original Puffysleeves.

      • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

Season 4 was probably my favorite.  Siriano could be such an arrogant little twit, but every time you were ready to smother him, he’d pull out something brilliant.  My personal favorite moment was during the prom challenge.  That dress was repulsive and horrifying, but I loved how much he hated it too.  I would always rather see someone know their piece sucks and feel legitimately bad about it.

        • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

I really loved Siriano – he’s probably my favorite winner other than Jay and Seth Aaron.

          • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

It’s a big toss-up for me between Siriano and Seth Aaron.  Jay’s collection I could appreciate for its merits, but it didn’t really strike me.  It just didn’t speak to my style at all.

            • lalagigi

Ooh, Seth Aaron was my favorite. I love his structured aesthetic and would have worn anything and everything he made. Does anyone know what he is doing now?

    • MoHub

Word is out that Heidi has said a popular male designer will be surprisingly aufd this episode. Considering the current male field remaining, I’d think that would have to be Dmitry.

      • AthenaJ

        Or Gunnar…

        • SewingSiren

I kind of hope Gunnar. I don’t mind him, I’m just not interested in his work. Or Christopher. He’s popular with Heidi, but I don’t think he’ll get the ‘auf. But  his work bores me .

          • dress_up_doll

ITA: I commented weeks ago that Heidi seems to have a soft spot for Christopher. I wouldn’t mind seeing Gunnar go, but for some reason I feel in my gut it might be Fabio.

      • http://twitter.com/urban_gypsy Tess Danesi

Noooooo! But from the look of his Fashion Week collection, that may well be the case. Sigh.

        • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

Tess, girl, I need YOU to keep calm!  I’ve already started hyperventilating at the thought of it being Dmitry – you’ve gotta keep your shit together for the both of us!

      • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

I just hope it isn’t Fabio. I really liked his collection, and he seems like a sweet person.

        • TheOriginalLulu

This. I’m so happy for him that he got the chance to show a collection, but I really want him to at least be among the last standing.

          • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

Here’s a thought – what if it’s literally *the* most popular guy?  If you check the fan favorites contest at Lifetime, that would be Christopher.   Out of the male designers, he’s the furthest ahead for “likeability.”

            • formerlyAnon

              THAT is really perplexing.

      • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

Ven or Fabio.  She didn’t say popular with whom, and depending on when the comments were made by Heidi, Ven got a lot of love the first couple episodes.

        • alyce1213

Right. I don’t think Heidi necessarily meant popular on this blog, so I would include Chris and Gunnar in that mix. Chris is quite popular with Heidi (ahem) and Gunnar has made a name for himself in his own way, so why not either of them?

Please — not Fabio.  I’m hoping he’ll pull out all the stops and win the season.

          • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

I’m not really sure who’s popular elsewhere.  I stopped reading comments anywhere but here when I discovered that so many people loved Anya last time around.

          • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

Honestly, it could be any of them – the other guys are pretty popular, and Ven WAS popular, so there you go. Oh, please, I hope it’s not Dmitry.  I know I’m far from objective, but any of the guys except Dmitry (I suck, I know…).

      • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

        Nooooooooo!!!!!

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Maya-KC/537771651 Maya KC

Eventually those previews are going to be three straight minutes of shocked gasps.

How to get Heidi to cover up:  Anya’s breastbone to navel and Mondo’s legs.

      Who’da thunk it?

    • Lilithcat

Anya’s a guest judge?  I guess I won’t mind that I’m going to miss this episode tonight.

    • Amy Parikh

I’m not even motivated to make some time to watch PR tonight, after seeing the final collections. So sad because I have always looked forward to Thursday and PR!!! Way below average season. Even the seasons that had some pretty bad designers, had at least one shining light. I initially thought that would be Ven, then Sonjia, then Dmitry. But they have all proven me wrong, especially with their final collections!

      • l_c_ann

I’ve discovered Face Off on Tuesday nights on SciFy and there is creativity there and judges who look closely at what was made and DH has become hooked on it as well.  (He refuses to watch PR after the Anya years….so it seemed.)

        • http://twitter.com/camellily Carol Melichar

I’ve been watching Face Off also. I felt kind of bad the first time I watched the judges look at the edges and the paintwork etc. The attention to detail is very different from PR judging.

          • l_c_ann

I think the FO’s judges’ attention to details is what totally sold my husband on them.  What hooked me was the time lapses as the faces change.

And (with some embarassment) I report that my favorite design this season anywhere was the blue dress worn in the bar scene by the alien on Face Off.   (It was neither black nor form fitting.)

        • turtleemily

I love Face Off, but Glenn Hetrick needs to go away.

        • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

I LOVE Face Off!  Tuesday night’s “Alice in Zombieland” show was pretty cool!

    • Kimbolina

You know, at least Anya’s only the guest judge, limits her screen time to just the end and hopefully Kors and everyone else will have enough snark to keep her screen time down even more.  If she was the one introducing the challenge and actually showing up in the workroom, I would scream.  Good thing it looks like it’s just Mondo and Tim in the workroom.

Oh, kittens… no more kittens… Last night I realized that our cat was not trying to crawl into my mouth while I was eating, and then discovered that was because he was no longer in the house.  So today I got to explain to my EXTREMELY dramatic and intense 6 year old that her cat somehow got out and that I will do everything possible to find him.  It has resulted in crying jags coming and going for the last 2 hours.  She has pondered all of the things that would make him leave and would make him stay away and what could happen to him.  It’s been an ordeal.

      • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

On the plus side, today I demonstrated that I can still be scary as hell — in one hour at my doctor’s office, I got the drugs I wanted, a recommendation for the test I want, a call into a specialist moving up my appointment by four days, a reprimand for the doctor who has the manners of poorly raised wolf, and 6 apologies for causing me to have to throw a tantrum in the waiting room.

        • Call me Bee

Whew!  Sounds like you had a day!  About the cat–I’m sure he’ll be back–he knows where to get the goods.  Ours disappeared and my MIL sat outside every day for a month until he just…strolled up to her one day!  And he never left again, though he’s in and out all day.

And–look at you taking over your own healthcare decisions.  You GO!
I wish I could buy you a drink, but I can send you a lemonade, or non-alcoholic drink for your choice and I shall raise a glass of bubbly to you.

          • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

That seemed prudent after a new script damn near put me in a coma on Tuesday.  Apparently I can’t take barbiturates.  This was discovered because taking a half dose made me lose consciousness for the first time ever (well, ever as unintended — I’ve had surgeries where I’ve been put under deliberately).  Took 5 tries to get me to wake up from the ringing phone to ask me where I was to pick up my kids at school.  I then spent the next 22 hours in and out of consciousness.

But the part I threw the tantrum about was that the doctor who was responsible for this decided to not return phone calls for 3 days.  It’s simply rude at that point.

            • Eclectic Mayhem

Holy crap Shannon!  I’m glad you’re okay but… holy crap!

            • formerlyAnon

              Ditto.

            • aristida_girl

This is totally none of my business, but if your doctor sucks, get a new one…it has always been worth it for me, and sometimes it is nice to get a new perspective too…. I even switched once because the office staff totally sucked and treated me like crap..
Life is too short to put up with unnecessary bull crap, especially if you are sick… I hope you get better soon, or at least get better care, you deserve it..
also, good luck with kitty :)

            • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

He didn’t suck until now.  Yeah, he wasn’t really doing a whole lot but that’s because it’s so damn odd what’s happening that no one is really sure what to do.  And I was fine up until yesterday when he didn’t call me back during the 4 hours the office was open and he was in clinic.  That was crap, and frankly, the last 7 months have used up my patience — not something I have in abundance anyway.

But I firmly believe that if people don’t want your opinion they shouldn’t tell you something publicly, so never worry about that “none of my business” stuff with me!  :D

            • aristida_girl

Jesus! I can’t imagine how frustrating it must be for you after 7 months of trying to figure things out and not knowing! I truly hope you get better soon, and that they are able to at least find an answer for you..
              hang in there :)

            • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

What’s really aggravating is when a new doc, like in the ER or Urgent Care, tries to use migraine meds to treat it.  I was under the care of a neurologist for 5 months, and you think MIGRAINE never freaking occurred to her?!?  It’s always really fun to be the stay at home mom (and now soon to be business owner — I’m still kind of in shock that it’s actually happening!) who can cite medical journals and give a clinical history perfectly.

            • aristida_girl

Good for you for getting on with things and starting your own business while this health crap is going on… I have a bit of experience with health getting in the way of living, and know how hard it is to put pain aside (when you can!) and live like you want to anyway, even if it is harder than it would have been if you were healthy… You never know where life will take you, and I do believe everything happens for a reason…Also, i think headaches are some of the worst pain, I am sorry you are going though this (sucks!)
I think that is one of my fave things about this blog, it is like going to a really interesting party where everyone is cool and interested in being fabulous in their own way :).. I am still hoping for a bitter kitten convention some day…

Excellent wrangling of your healthcare list of things to do – in an hour, yet!  Sorry you have some providers who are lacking in the personal skills sector; I hope he/she is a crackerjack physician, nonetheless.

Oh god!  I forgot to mention the only good part of my week up till today, when scaring people made me so happy (I was really beginning to think that having children had mellowed me too much!  Thank god it’s not true!).  I have finished most of the sketches for the first collection!  They are sad and tragic but that is because I can make you anything you’d like out of frosting, but put a pencil in my hand and no good will come of it.  In fact, my husband is doing the fashion sketches for me to put in the sample books based on the finished pieces — I think it’ll be nice to have both just to make the graphic design prettier.

We also got a friend lined up to do the photos, and 6 of the 9 body types filled for models.  My partner is talking to some friends and contacts about cross-promoting, too.  We still have no name to promote, but we’re bound to come up with one at some point.

            • l_c_ann

Sounds like “Feisty enough” might fit.

Yeah, he’s handy.  He can play any musical instrument, draws wonderfully and is tri-lingual (English, Cantonese, and Spanish, plus a lot of others he’s not fluent in).  I can do precisely none of those things — in fact, I may very well be tone deaf when it comes to accents, and I am actually physically incapable of finding the beat of anything.  So far the only thing we’ve found that we were both truly, truly bad at was chem.  And that shit was just abysmally hard.

I marvel at how productive you can be whilst wrangling small persons and suffering from hard-to-resolve medical stuff. I was kind of hoping that by some miracle all the post-partum hormone shifts had improved things for you, but it sounds as if Not So Much.

            • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

No, but hopefully the new neuro will have some new ideas at least.  Part of the reason doctors keep firing me as a patient is that they can’t even come up with what to look for anymore.  And no one likes my “I’m being personally haunted by a very grumpy, very violent ghost” theory.

            • formerlyAnon

Ha ha! I was once married to a doctor, and we had the requisite bevy of doctor friends. Nothing they hate more than a problem they can’t fix except solutions that they can’t fit into the universe of cause & effect in which they’ve been trained.

Me too.  He’s a really nice cat, who doesn’t even object to all the holding done by the toddler, which is miraculous because toddlers are all tiny sadists when it comes to cats.  And he’s so pretty — Siamese coloring but with pointed fur so he’s super fluffy.

If anyone has any suggestions, I’d love the advice.

          • http://twitter.com/mirrormirrorxx Paola Thomas

I have indoor/outdoor cats who are trained to return when I rattle the cat treats. However on the rare occasions when they’re slow to come in at night, I find that microwaving tuna or fish-based cat food and standing with it outside helps.  And on the occasions when we roast a chicken with the doors open they’re immediately at the back door.

Hope your kitten comes home soon.

            • l_c_ann

Look under things, and then look up.
Cats can climb and then have a problem figuring out how “down” works, esp if they aren’t outdoorsy.

Is the kitty a fully functional male?

              Favorite treats sometimes work,

Also contact the local humane society and give them specifics.  Sometimes well meaning (and not so well meaning) neighbors will deposit a found cat there, even though the cat wasn’t lost.

          • DeTrop

Check all closets and drawers.  They’re curious and can find the darndest places.  Good luck.

Shannon, I’m so sorry!  I hope he comes home soon.  The other BKs have given great advice for you to try.

          • Spicytomato1

First, wow, the unconsciousness episode and subsequent unresponsive doctor…frightening and frustrating, how horrible. Glad you’ve pulled through to tell the tale.

As for your kitty, I agree with those who suggest double checking your own house. I lost one cat twice — and after plastering the neighborhood with posters ended up finding her at home eventually. Once inside the base of my pedestal sink! And once in between two walls of my enclosed porch. Amazing how they can squeeze into the tiniest of spaces.

          • Eclectic Mayhem

The one time our family cat didn’t come home for a few days it turned out he was shut in a neighbour’s garage.  We walked up the road calling him and eventually heard him mewing.  Hope the kitty shows up!

          • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_ZBFH32YG44LIIZYLSQPMBXMYCU Sarah

When my superfluffy Jasper went missing a couple of years ago, I put a post on Craigslist. A nice lady from an animal rescue league called me to give me this advice: The are never far. Just call for him, up and down the street, as much as you can. I live in the city, and thought for sure he’d be lost or caught but after four days, it turned out he was under the neighbor’s row house, filthy and about three pounds thinner. She did suggest if makes you fell better go ahead and get a small animal trap and place it outside yor house with some good bait in it. (tuna, etc.) We got one at Lowes and caught a few neighbor cats while we were waiting, but it made us feel better.

            • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

Oh, I don’t think that a trap would be such a good idea… we live next to a giant forest preserve:)  Tomorrow I’m going to call all the shelters and ask around the neighborhood.  If he hasn’t shown up by Monday, I’ll call the kids’ school; it’s just behind our place (we share a fence) and ask them to please have the teachers make a quick announcement with a picture of the cat.  Virtually everyone in the area has kids, so if someone took him in, they most likely will be found at the grade school.  If no one did, then he’ll probably wonder back home on his own.

I just feel bad for the kid — I told her I wanted him back as much as she did, and she disagreed until I pointed out that I knew just how awful she felt and that’s why I wanted him back.  It’s her first real pet.

          • formerlyAnon

My neighbor’s cat has been shut in my garage more than once (good hunting in there, apparently.)  They now have a key.

I keep swearing off cat sitting because at least one cat ALWAYS disappears in outrage that I am not his/her person. So far (multiple cats over 30 years, hiding both inside and outside) every single one came back in one degree of snit or another when their people returned. One I swear was considering staying with the family on the next block whose kids were convinced they had found a stray. (They were out hunting for their ‘lost’ cat & spotted him after he’d returned to his original people.)

Which is to say, they are not always as convinced they are lost as we are sure they are. I hope yours returns well after a small adventure.

            • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

We had a cat who went missing 3 times.  The first time a family took him in thinking he was a stray and saw a poster and called.  The next two he had returned to them, and they called again.  The final time, we told the kids they could keep him — he was obviously happy there.  We ended up with a sort of time-share cat (which has happened with a couple others and a couple dogs over the years as well, we’re a very drop-in, drop-out sort of family); he’d come visit occasionally, spend a couple weeks and then go back.

      • Judy_J

I was going to suggest what Paola posted…rattling cat treats usually gets mine to come back pretty quickly.  Also check small spaces and closets.  One of mine was trapped in a closet for several hours before we realized he was not around.  I do hope you find him soon.

I find myself watching PR now only out of boredom and to be able to make some sense out of the recap and comments the next day.  I really don’t care about any of the designers this season.  So, I’ll just open a bottle of pino noir and have a couple (or three) glasses.  At least Mondo is on this week.  And there’s always Tim.  But this crop of designers has really disappointed me.

      • AnneElliot

Started the bottle of Pinot with dinner, I’ll just keep pouring it through PR.  I’ll need several glasses to lessen my Anya-angst.

    • GorgeousThings

Ugh, Anya. I have a conference call tonight which will provide whatever excuse I need not to watch. She came clomping by me at the tents last week. Seriously – the woman walks like a Clydesdale.

      • janierainie

        that’s what I said ugh.

      • NDC_IPCentral

Hunh, you’d think that her beauty pageant training would have her walking with quite the glide.  Then again, if Anya’s wearing hoof-platform shoes, a Clydesdale stomp may be unavoidable.  Unless one were savvy enough to eschew those hideous shoes.

        • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_ZBFH32YG44LIIZYLSQPMBXMYCU Sarah

Eschew the Shoes! That’s a blog title right there…clodhoppers and beartraps, be warned!

Oddly enough, a girlfriend who was in pageants up through Miss Minnesota (she doesn’t even have big toenails anymore from wearing pageant shoes, it’s so odd) walks with a strange sound.  Not clomping, but a very distinctive clinking pattern.

My word, what a day. My beloved supervisor is retiring, and this is our last day at work together, and he’s been like family to me, and that sucks. In addition, my sister-from-another-mister Sommer is having a baby this evening at 8 mountain time. SO, in addition to the valium I’ve already taken to calm my nerves, I will need several stiff drinks to both ignore the sadness of my favorite boss’s impending absence and to celebrate the arrival of my new pseudo niece! And PR will be just the ticket to take my mind off the anxiety! Plus, I can’t wait to see what T and Lo have to say about Mondo’s legsly outfit!

      • Call me Bee

Thanks. I acted cool and then cried all the way home in my car. Some bosses are special, you know? Doesn’t help that I’ve heard the new one is a dragon lady. I’m going ghetto with Icehouse beer because I’m broke and I wanna get stupid drunk like I’m still 21 and have not a care in the world. Plus, fashion and new babies! Yay!

    • Scott Isaacs

For what it’s worth, a gaggle of gays and fashionistas of all orientations are gathering at Beauty Bar here in Denver tonight to watch PR. Mondo will be there. Special guest will be Fabio. Not sure how to take it, especially given the talk about a popular guy being auf’d tonight. Michael Costello was at Beauty Bar the night Mondo got 2nd to Gretchen. Rampant speculation in three…two…one…

Hey BEAUTY BAR! LUV u GUYS…Hey to Remi n dear Mondo!

        • Alwayscoco

Funny, I was just thinking, how great it would’ve been to have you as guest Judge tonite! You were one of my favs on your PR season.

        • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

Bert!!  We’d love to see you as a guest judge!  Glad to see you here!

I don’t know that Lifetime would allow it — based on Bert’s blog, I don’t think he’d fall in line with storylines very well.

      • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

Scott, have a great time!  And give Mondo our love!

    • TheOriginalLulu

Ah, there’s nothing quite like being purred to sleep. Sweet dreams, boys!

    • SapphoPoet

Ah, the City of Light. I can drink virtual champagne, non?

So glad to see you all. I’ll be out this evening, so will be watching online tomorrow. Five more chemo treatments to go. (But who’s counting?) My hemoglobin count is getting very low; if it gets much lower I will have to have a blood transfusion to get treatment. So I’m loading up on protein and iron this week to maintain my current level (and hopefully bump it up a little). Am feeling ok, but awfully tired–I could lie down and sleep just about anywhere at this point. All my other lab numbers look fine, so that’s good. And I’ve lost two more pounds. :) So–onward!

      • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

A friend of the family was told to go for chocolate malts — many decades ago, I’m sure — because the malt powder helped with putting on weight.

        • SapphoPoet

Ooo–I love beets. I’m actually glad to be losing weight–I’ve got plenty to lose. I don’t think my oncologist is happy, though–he wants people to maintain. But I’m eating well and exercising and drinking tons of water, so I guess it’s all working.

          • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

Seriously?  No one loves beets but me!  It’s so exciting to find someone who doesn’t wrinkle their nose at the thought.

      • Call me Bee

We could get your a liver martini with a brocolli chaser to boost that iron…

        • SapphoPoet

We could call it the “Chemo-tini”!

      • http://twitter.com/TMamBo Therese Bohn

         Good luck, and blessings.

      • NDC_IPCentral

Toots, I got a transfusion of two packed units of RBCs three days after my surgery, and that really pinked my ghostly face up and gave me more energy.  To be honest, I asked my oncologist about eating beef and protein to boost my RBCs in June-end of August, and he said diet would have no effect.  So, embrace the transfusion if it’s necessary.

I got at least 50 Neupogen injections over the course of my 6 cycles of chemo, and when I saw my oncologist this week he said that the WBCs still are low – it takes a lot of time to get over the effects of all those powerful, infused drugs.  Onward, indeed, SP, and courage!

        • SapphoPoet

At least I got to go out for a good steak dinner. :) The nurse said that transfusions are not at all uncommon, so if I need one, so-be-it. Would be nice to have more energy, I must say.

          Thanks for all the support!

      • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

        • SapphoPoet

          Thanks, Eclectic. :)

      • formerlyAnon

Don’t fight the idea of a transfusion if your doctor is recommending. My unscientific observation of friends & relatives says that “artificial” methods of pumping your blood numbers up so you can tolerate the chemo have a lot to recommend them.

And go ahead and sleep. This is when you call in favors. Make requests you think are maybe a little nervy. Most people are thrilled to be instructed how they can be useful.

        • SapphoPoet

I will definitely be doing whatever my doc recommends. I have a really good medical team, for which I am grateful. And I’m totally sleeping a lot. :)

    • SapphoPoet

And thank you for reminding me that I have to pick up my dry cleaning. :)

As I saw Anya (and I don’t recall her being shown at all in the preview last week, just Mondo), I realized how very grateful I am that I have a theatre audition tonight and won’t be watching.

A glass (or two) of Lillet on ice for me, with a twist and spritz of lemon.

I hope the quirky, sometimes cranky, and delightful Mondo is strong enough antidote for Anya.

I have to admit I’m a little curious to see what personal patterns this bunch of crazies comes up with.

Oh crap, Anya is back?  No doubt she’ll be confused by tailored clothing.

Anya during judging:  “What are those long tubes of material hanging from each shoulder?  What are they, you say, Michael?  Sleeves?   I’ve never heard of those – how do you make them?  Do most designers attach those?”

    • UsedtobeEP

Safe travels and good health to all of you (the many!) who need it, and here, kitty, to Shannon. I will be drinking to celebrate taking my first school test in about 20 years. Bizarre. I am officially too old to have homework.

I love how Anya’s trying to dress more formally yet she still looks like Tropical Island Drag Queen Happy Hour. Please grow the other half of your hair back.

Mondo looks like he got up this morning and forgot to put on pants.

      • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

Ugh.. I knew Mondo would be back, which makes me happy, but I didn’t know we’d be stuck seeing Anya again so soon.

        • http://profile.yahoo.com/6PQUNH7VYANAXMRMEEM763V3EU victor liu

I feel like Anya’s volunteering, like “Pick me!I can make up for my lack of talent by being EVEN MORE UNDESERVINGLY FAMOUS!”

Then B/M’s like “Sure Anya, who’s only been sewing for four months! You’ll be a great judge, even though you’ve only been sewing for four months! I can’t wait to hear your critiques, even though you’ve only been sewing for four months!

…Did we mention that you’ve only been sewing for four months?”

Then her critiques are gonna be all “I don’t like the print. It actually matches at the seams, you made it yourself, and there’s no overexposure of breastbone. Also, it has too much shape; I think you should add four feet of flowy shapeless fabric.”

And then she’ll say, “I silently pick Christopher for the winner because the guest judges have no say. Actually, the judges have no say either. Beep beep I am a soulless drone of the producers beep beep. Christopher has the most appeal to 12 year old girls on tumblr. Beep. Boop.”

Blech. I really want to like the rest of this season, but B/M is making this so hard.

And if neither Elena and Fabio is in the finals, I’m out. I’m not watching the judges roll a three-sided die to decide the winner from some half-assed collections that look oh-so-“editorial”.

          • CozyCat

I think there’s a chance she may be a reasonable judge.  Anya has great personal style and seemed to have good fashion sense.  So she may be pretty good at judging between good and bad.  The problem was that she didn’t have the design or sewing skills to create garments beyond a set of very rudimentary patterns.

    • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

PARIS?  For us?  We’re thrilled, and I’ll have a some champagne, please!  Kisses!

And Dmitry?  Please?  Win tonight, okay?  Stop making the judges mad, baby, hmmm?

    • GorgeousThings

Can I get a headstart on judging the judges? Here goes:
Heidi: tight, boring colors, severe hair. At least it’s not shiny. – 3.5/5
Nina: Nice colors, but not enough visual interest near her face. – 3.75/5
Mondo: Love the glasses, great color/print combination, and he had the great sense to wear shorts in summer in NY! 4.9/5
Anya: Ugh. Laughable hairstyle, black, boring top. At least she wore an interesting necklace. – 1.5/5

      Mondo takes it!!!!
      Now I want a drink.

      • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

That’s practically cheating!  Mondo always takes it!  ;-)

      • ASK26

must mark MONDO down for that ridic hairstyle

        • AnneElliot

I’ll take Mondo’s hairstyle over Anya’s any day.  His looks cheeky and whimsical; she just looks stupid.  Either shave your head or wear mermaid hair — PICK ONE AND STICK WITH IT.

          Was that too bitchy?

      • minnye

Nina’s got some serious volume in those pants.

      • Judy_S

Next question: who has better legs, Mondo or Heidi?

    • Pupioso

the best part of this is going to be T&L deliciously ripping it tomorrow.

UGH! Do they have to keep trying to make Anya a thing?  She can go far away as far as I’m concerned. She embodies just how fake this show has become.

    • MilaXX

What cracks me up is Michael switching thing ups this season. Chucks instead of shoes, blue jeans & white jeans instead of his usual black. I think he deserves an honorable mention of sorts.

        • NDC_IPCentral

SP — just thought I’d mention – for some strange and unwelcome reason I’ve developed chemo hands again.  I had them in March and April, which seemed at least seasonally justifiable.  I had cracking and sensitivity in the insides of my fingers, at the inside bends at the joints.  The skin was fragile and broke easily.  I resorted to petroleum jelly and gloves in bed at night.  I’m finding it has cropped up again in the past few days, dunno why, but I think it’s back to Vaseline and the gloves tonight.  SO, if it happens to you, it is chemo that’s wreaking havoc.

          • formerlyAnon

The number of weird side effects chemo can have are absolutely amazing.

          • SapphoPoet

Yikes–that sounds unpleasant. I have not had that problem, although am experience some mild numbness in my toes. Possibly early neuropathy. Today my hands are really shaky; my family has a genetic hand tremor and it seems to be kicking in with the chemo. Makes it really hard to type. Also, my nails are cracking really easily, which I’m chalking up to the chemo, too. Just have to stay one step ahead of all the side effects…it’s a full-time job.

    • ASK26

So should the pre-show conversation be what an homage to a menstrual cycle be?    Because if you are 18 single and worried that you might have been pregnant that is different than if you are crabby bloated and want ice cream!

    • JMansm

Not to be a huge ridiculous bitch, but just because she won that doesn’t mean Anya is qualified to be a judge on this show. Happy to see Mondo there but Anya doesn’t understand construction, taste, separates or fabrication. If they need a “print specialist” maybe she is okay but she never really understood prints or combining them she just picked pretty ones.

      • Stubenville

Anya isn’t qualified to be a winner on this show.

I assumed it was for medical reasons, like she’d had breast cancer and wanted reconstruction, or she lost a couple hundred pounds and they deflated and it depressed her, something like that.  Because I like to think people are nice.

        • Lisa_Cop

No, I think if you have a mastectomy for breast cancer, insurance always pays for the breast reconstruction (boob job).

          • formerlyAnon

            IF you have insurance.

If you’re what is called in these parts “on the county” I’m not so sure. What Medicaid pays for is variable from state to state & in my state you can be many tens of thousands of dollars too poor to afford decent insurance and still not be poor enough for Medicaid.

            • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

It would also depend on when she had it — now breast cancer research is funded and things like reconstruction are considered important.  But she has sons in their 20s, so she’s old enough that she may have had it done in the bad old days, at which point they maybe wouldn’t cover it as the it would be classed as pre-existing.

Also, until recently, insurance has a maximum lifetime benefit — generally a million.  If she had significant medical bills, she could have hit that limit before reconstruction.

    • dschubba

    • MilaXX

What nationality is Christopher that he doesn’t know his culture?

      • ChristinaRi

        Maybe he was adopted.

Some families are like that though.  They don’t know anything about their family origins.   It got lost somewhere along the way.

        • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

I brought up that same thing.  My nephew was adopted, he is half Korean and half white.  The white half was his birth father, so he doesn’t know anything about that side (his birth mother is around, she visits a couple times a year at least, and he has his own cell that he can talk to her on as well).  But both my sister-in-law and her ex-husband are white, and those are the cultural traditions he was raised in.  The closest he gets to Korean is the Chinese culture he’s exposed to through my husband and our kids.  So how would he choose what to use?  I mean, the kid has 5 parents!  (Birth mom, real mom, step-dad, real dad, step-mom)  And I know in our (his stepdad, my brother) case, we have about 7 distinct ethnic lines in the family tree, all of which are a bit silly to claim after 200+ years in the US.

I just think it’s sort of an odd way to go with a challenge considering just how many people have that kind of story.

          • AnneElliot

Originally I thought it was kind of interesting, since so many of the designers were international this year.

      • ASK26

I’ve mer a number of people who claim to not know. It seems unusual to me as well. With my family having all known roots to one place. In most cases they have Heinz 57 roots or have not had grandparents who passed down a lot of traditions.

      • BrooklynBomber

There are people who just think of themselves as American and don’t have much connection to geographic or cultural heritage.

      • alula_auburn

I know my heritage, but it’s not ever something that I’ve been really emerged in, that I would have an immediate aesthetic response.  In my experience, that’s not terribly uncommon, especially for people with kind of homogenized WASPy backgrounds.

        • MilaXX

It’s just odd to me. Most people I know in my personal life have some family history to draw on. You could have drawn on your Danish side at least. My family is big on family get together and reunions. My sister event did the family genealogy back to when birth record ere records in bibles.

          • formerlyAnon

It would be lovely to have that kind of heritage. I don’t know what the deal was with my family. It was only when my mom died that I discovered there we actually had pictures of my father’s parents. They’d been in a box for ?? 50 years? 60 years? (they were both dead by the time my dad was 19 or 20) and I never saw my father look at them – none of us kids ever saw them.

            • MilaXX

My family is pretty close and most live fairly long. My gramps was a month shy of 102 when he passed. When my grand was alive we had a big Sunday dinner at her house every week. And we pretty much use any excuse to get together. I have more aunts, uncles, 1st, 2nd & 3rd cousins than I can count.

      • formerlyAnon

All of my grandparents were dead before I was born, my parents were launched well away from their families of origin while in their teens. AND they were from the generation that was raised to think that becoming American meant you left most of the “old ways” behind. Including language.  I only know a bit about my heritage because two sets of immigrants (Irish & Polish) were so close – my grandparents or great grandparents. The part of my heritage that came here further back (Hessian? maybe.) played no part in my generation’s life.

And honestly, except for food, my kids know almost nothing of my family’s cultures of origin. On the other side, their dad is first generation American born & they visit his parents’ country of origin every few years, so it’s an entirely different thing from the “get on a boat and never go back again” my turn-of-the-last century immigrant relatives experienced.

        • MilaXX

My favorite bit about my sis doing the famiy tree was the bible entry that said my grandmother’s father “went into the fields on day and brought back a squaw” (my great-grandmother)
I forget that not everyone has that much family.

    • ChristinaRi

      Sonjia’s mom is lovely.

      And Fabio’s cutie boyfriend!

    • dschubba

I misheard Melissa right? She didn’t say “I am so attracted to you,” did she?

      • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

I think she said “attached” but yeah, it sounded like “attracted”!

      • ChristinaRi

        Nope.  That’s what she said.

        Maybe we lost the context.

    • http://eclectictsunami.blogspot.in/ Cassie

      OMG VEN HAS EMOTIONS?!?!?!?!

Also, Fabio and boyfriend are adorable.

    • Jasmaree

Nothing can break down a person’s cold, hard shell quite like the sight of their mother.

      • MilaXX

or dearest friend – like a relative.

    • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

Ugh they’re really pulling hard for “stories” tonight, huh?

      • http://eclectictsunami.blogspot.in/ Cassie

        Ughers.

      • http://profile.yahoo.com/6PQUNH7VYANAXMRMEEM763V3EU victor liu

I’m not watching right now, but did anyone pull the “dead family member” card out of their ass yet?

        • Kimbolina

They haven’t mentioned any yet but it’s early.

    • alyce1213

Dmitry’s background is so interesting.  Love.

    • Maria Rosenfire

All of this crying is making me uncomfortable. I’m to repressed for this! Everyone turn into a Vendroid!

    • Call me Bee

Elena’s mom looks so cool–and Elena looks just like her!  Ad how sweet about Dimitry’s dad and Grandpa?  So cool.

      • Spicytomato1

I know, they are both beautiful. Her mom is so teeny-tiny!

Damn B-M, you broke through my shell of cynicism and indifference with these sweet reunions.

        • Call me Bee

          Bastards.

          • Spicytomato1

Actually, my cynicism started seeping back in once I saw how Gunnar seems to determined to outdo Mondo for in the “personal history” department. I believe he was affected deeply by bullying but I’m unsettled by what seems to be a competitive exploitation of it.

    • amian3

Elena’s mom is gorgeous! And so petite.

      • Lisa_Cop

The picture of her when Elena was a child. Really a beautiful woman.

    • MilaXX

      Sonjia’a mommy s pretty!

      • Spicytomato1

So pretty. And young. Gunnar’s mom, too.

    • dschubba

I would have guessed Dmitry’s friend was actually a sibling. When they were standing side by side, their profiles looked so similar.

    • DinaSews

These designers really look like he11. I guess sleep deprivation is part of the challenge.

    • Call me Bee

It’s cold and rainy here tonight, and The Hubs just made a batch of his perfect four-cheese Mac n hCeese.  Just for me.  Awwww…

      • CozyCat

        He sounds like a keeper!

    • Jasmaree

“The background is black because I’m black.”

Probably moving in the wrong direction there.

    • dschubba

Dmitry and Sonjia, I love you, but I’m troubled by those rationales.

    • ChristinaRi

oh my god.   I hate Dimtry’s print.

Love his nose though.  I keep staring at it.

Good to know that the flower stuff comes from Ven’s religious background.

      • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

In re Ven: Yeah, that’s why. /sarcasm.

      • Call me Bee

And I like Dimitry’s a lot.  It is very reminiscent of many Easter European designs found in folk costumes (mine included) so for anyone from that part of the world…kinda familiar and comforting.  (Projecting much?  LOL..)

      • formerlyAnon

I join you in admiration of Dmitry’s nose.

    • Maria Rosenfire

For a gay man, Ven certainly designs a lot of things that sort of look like lady-bits.

      • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

Speaking of, who’s our straight guy for the season?  We didn’t have one who wore the straight badge, but there must be one.  There’s always one.  Or does Alicia as a lesbian in fashion count?  Maybe it doesn’t have to be a straight guy but just one person who wants to sleep with women?

    • ASK26

Melissa mo babushkaa. Hehe my familu is Polish as well

    • Stubenville

Surprise twist; Ven does gasp a flower print.

      /sarcasm

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_YAMNQMUGFM4NNSPAQLZRODSD5I Angela

         (all together now) OF COURSE!

    • EllenS

You guys – Ven’s thinking of including a flower!!!  So outside the box for him…

    • dress_up_doll

Melissa’s looks like the homage to the menstrual cycle.

      • http://profile.yahoo.com/6PQUNH7VYANAXMRMEEM763V3EU victor liu

Hmm. The preview keeps putting it in context of a “him” though.

      • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

        Might be Chris’s.

        • Spicytomato1

I thought that at first. Until Tim’s moment with Ven of course. Yikes.

    • Presumptuous Insect

I have seen some repeats of old seasons lately, which make this season really suffer in comparison, and I tell you what: If I don’t see something tonight that makes me erupt into a gay gasp, or at least something with some damn color, there is going to be some serious….   EYE ROLLING. Project Runway, I wish I could quit you!

    • alula_auburn

      hahaha Elena was literally skipping.

      • http://eclectictsunami.blogspot.in/ Cassie

Me too. Especially when it’s in an adorable accent.

        • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

Sing it, sisters.  I”m a pushover for that man.

    • Joe J

aaaaaand here’s your dead relative.  And it’s Christopher’s.  Excuse me while I go put on my big-SURPRISE face.

    • Jasmaree

“I’m gonna use print as an embellishment, and not in an expected way.”

NOT A GOOD IDEA. Flies in the face of the entire challenge. It’s unexpected for a reason.

    • BrooklynBomber

Did Ven say where he (or his family) is from?

      • Alina Badus

        Guyana, i believe…

        • Call me Bee

Indian–he was describing Hindu gods and their flowers.

          • BrooklynBomber

Thanks. I mean, I heard the Hindu part, but I didn’t hear him say what country. I just looked it up, and Alina’s right: he’s from Guyana.

            • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

and do i need to remind anyone that jim jones made guyana famous (infamous) in the u.s.  such an immense tragedy.

If he goes home, I will cry all the cries.

          • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

I will cry with you, and my cries will be more than your cries can cry.

    • dschubba

The family dinner is actually really nice.

    • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

I do think this is a nice way to give the designers a break in the middle of the competition. Yeah, it brings out the tears, but I bet it’s good for designer’s sanity to reduce the isolation factor a bit.

Christ, is that Dmitry’s mom? She looks his age.

      • http://eclectictsunami.blogspot.in/ Cassie

        No, his BFF.

        • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

Someone else mentioned they look like siblings, and they really do!  She’s blonde, but she looks like she could be his sister, they have the same face.

        • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

Oh good. I was worried she bathed in virgin blood for youth.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_YAMNQMUGFM4NNSPAQLZRODSD5I Angela

ROTFLMAO at Dimitry! “Separates people. Oooooohhhh” with spirit fingers!

      • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

Yeah, he better do them WELL!  I’m gonna be pissed if he botches them and goes home!  But he’s right – he’s in trouble if he does another dress, so I don’t see where he really has a choice.

    • ChristinaRi

So, how long will it take for Elena to turn back into the bitch she says she isn’t.

Homage to a menstrual cycle!!  Again!!

    • alula_auburn

I can kind of sympathize with compartmentalizing, but geez, Christopher, could you be more melodramatic about how this nice thing is such a burden for you?

    • dschubba

      They’re doing another All-Stars special?

      • MilaXX

I guess the show is going into heavy rotation now. Regular season, All Star season. I wish they wouldn’t. Usually I need a few months to recuperate after a season of PR.

        • dschubba

Yeah, this is definitely not the time.

    • dschubba

I’m dying at Christopher’s reaction to Fabio’s print.

      • alula_auburn

        He has the vapors!

    • http://eclectictsunami.blogspot.in/ Cassie

      Fabio is quietly, subtly hilarious.

    • ASK26

Omg I wasguessing Fabio but my phone keeps refreshing

    • Jasmaree

      So Ven actually drew roses?

      • http://eclectictsunami.blogspot.in/ Cassie

Roses! In the shape of roses! Pinned onto roses! INFINITE ROSES!

      • PastryGoddess

No dear, its a hibiscus.  Toooootallly different

        • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

See, and that is what bothers me.  There are so many fascinating and interesting ways to interpret a floral motif, he could at least branch out into a different flower regularly.

    • alula_auburn

Heh, the “wall is coming down.”  Sonjia TOTALLY told them to cowboy up and do it already last week.

      • http://eclectictsunami.blogspot.in/ Cassie

God, those two just need to get it on already.

        • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

          • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

You can practically hear the kissing sounds from here!`

    • MilaXX

Christopher’s fabric is fugly. I liked Fabio’ until he said it was peens & va-ja-jays. Ven – of course. Elena’s is colorful, but I like. I like Gunnar’s. I like Sonjia’s. Melissa’s is a little home ec looking.

      • CozyCat

I hope Fabio tells his explanation of his pattern on the runway so we can see Kors’ head explode.

        • http://eclectictsunami.blogspot.in/ Cassie

          Oh yes, please.

          • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

        • formerlyAnon

I would pay to see Ms. Garcia’s eyebrow raise at that one.

    • BrooklynBomber

Strrong Ukrrainian wohman’s print is problematic.

    • PastryGoddess

Dammit, I can’t be mean and bitchy if the designers are all nice and emotional and stuff

    • dress_up_doll

I dunno. I’m just not digging ANY of these textiles. Where’s Tim?

      • ASK26

ok Tim you so obviously don’t live with women along with being so clueless about the DDs

    • PastryGoddess

      Another All-Stars season?  Wha????

    • Clueless_Jock

      Maxipads!

    • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

I SEE IT NOW!!  Holy crap, as soon as Tim said it – BOOM!  Maxi pads!

      • EveEve

I sorta-kinda see it, but honestly it’s not the first thing that came to mind.  I would have loved it if Tim said “Roses AGAIN?” instead.

        • ASK26

I would buy a simple skirt in Ven’s fabric anytime

          • MilaXX

I think he’s made enough for all of us bitter kittens. That is the ones that are model thin.

        • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

That *would* have been better!  Imagine the Tim voice – “Holy shit, Ven – another flower and fan design?”

        • Spicytomato1

Agreed. I thought Dmitry’s assessment was right on. As for Tim, what a horrifying thing to actually say out loud.

          • MilaXX

I don’t blame him. He was trying to be subtle at first but Ven seemed to not get it.

            • Spicytomato1

Was her talking about the print? Or the way he folded the fabric? Because he wouldn’t be able to do anything about the print, no matter what it reminded Tim of.

      • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

i really don’t see it.  for one thing, it’s the wrong color for menstrual blood.  too pink and purple.  also, i don’t see the fan shape as related to feminine napkins.  has tim ever seen a used maxipad?  for that matter, i imagine ven hasn’t either.

        • formerlyAnon

          the mind boggles

    • alula_auburn

ahahaha I did not think it would be Ven, but that is AMAZING.

    • ASK26

first impression .sonjia’s seems like bad superhero

    • Pennymac

      Maxi pads! Shriek! OMFG!!!!

    • ChristinaRi

Dimtry —  Now that you mention it  —   and then the face!!  He makes me laugh.

      • http://eclectictsunami.blogspot.in/ Cassie

        His facial expressions are hysterical.

    • Maria Rosenfire

Tim, I know that the ladies are not your forte, but… not that color, honey.

    • ASK26

oh Tim you so obviously don’t live with women

      • ChristinaRi

I know because —      for sure he’d be grossed out.

    • MilaXX

For a change Christopher’s dramatic narration is right on point.  Ven honey, please learn less is more. making flowers out of flowers is stupid.

    • nosniveling

hahaha maxi pads- take THAT Ven!

    • VicksieDo

Ven had an EMOTION~~~~wow.  That was pretty mean of Tim.  Haven’t seen much fuschia blood in my time…

      • VicksieDo

        …and I don’t even like Ven.

        • annaplurabelle

           Apparently, neither does Tim.

          • VicksieDo

            HAHAHAHAHAAAA!  Apparently not!

    • CozyCat

      Wow Tim!

For the first time, I felt bad for Ven when he had to walk out of his TH session to avoid crying on camera…

      • http://eclectictsunami.blogspot.in/ Cassie

To be fair, I’m not sure he realized just how personal the design was to Ven. Still, yikes.

    • http://www.thirteen.org/downton-abbey/category/the-downton-dish/ Gotham Tomato

An homage to a menstrual cycle? Appropriate since most of these designers have acted like they’ve got major PMS all season.

Maxipads made of cheap Party City crepe paper, perhaps!

    • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

I have a strapless dress that looks just like Goth Olsen’s dress – except mine is flowers.

Tim: “I’m too old for you all!” Didn’t you realize that when no one knew what “verklempt” means?

      • alula_auburn

Aw, Tim will never be too old for me!

(But I am, admittedly, an enormous nerd.)

      • dschubba

I think it’s probably cultural. I’m in my 20s (for a few more days, at least!) and I got the That Girl reference.

      • ChristinaRi

It’s a problem when you age.  References slip out of your mouth and there are the perplexed faces in front of you before you  even know what you said.

Not that their references resonate with me either.  :D

      • http://eclectictsunami.blogspot.in/ Cassie

Yeah, I’m just-turned-23, and I knew exactly what he was talking about. And I say “verklempt” more often than is probably normal…

        • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

That one was more of a New York-ism for Tim since it’s yiddish, I suppose.

    • Jasmaree

I really don’t like Melissa’s “blood line” idea. It’s not personal at all. Everybody has blood lines. Anyone else could have that print and say the same thing. It’s a decent print though.

    • ASK26

Oh my sonjia. those pants look like the ones from the stilt Walker

      • http://eclectictsunami.blogspot.in/ Cassie

        You’re right. Oof.

    • notdorothygale

Prints death match. Is the fabric cotton? It looks so stiff.

      • ASK26

usually and it’s only printed on 1 side

    • Spicytomato1

I’m thinking Ven’s is the “Hawaiian airline hostess.”

    • notdorothygale

StayFree maxi pads “with pleats”. Oy.

      • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

I think it was more that they made the hourglassish shape of a pad? I dunno. I didn’t see it. I just hope Ven goes home for an excessively flowery outfit AGAIN.

    • VicksieDo

      I like Dmitri’s

    • Maria Rosenfire

Just when I thought that Dance Mom tripe couldn’t get any worse they make a spin-off that looks even more vile. HOW DO YOU DO THIS, LIFETIME? Every time I think you’ve reached bottom you slap together another sexist, nasty rung to bring it down again.

      • formerlyAnon

What perplexes is that if they were going to scrape the bottom of the male (vs. female) stereotype barrel it’d be ratings gold. Shooting things. Crashing things. Getting fucked up and doing stupid things and breaking shit. Getting sentimental about something and (sometimes) talking about their mamas. Sounds like a blockbuster action movie to me.

    • Stubenville

Trying to figure out who goes – Gunnar?

      • amian3

It’s tricky isn’t it? I thought Christopher was getting the edit until he started putting his own stuff down. That usually means top 3.

    • NDC_IPCentral

Memo to Frau Klum:  Look up the dictionary definition of the word “bizarre,” bitte.  You really don’t understand what it means, and you’ve relied on it far too frequently (and rarely correctly) in your attempts to “judge.”

Three eared babies (see Shannon Stewart’s comment to me early on in the Lounge thread) – now that’s bizarre.  The garments that S10 contestants are cranking out?  Nuh-unh.

      • BrooklynBomber

But ever since the first time she said it a few seasons back, I can’t even say the word w/o saying, “It’s BeezAAARHH!”

    • PastryGoddess

      Is Ven’s sister sprouting?

    • NDC_IPCentral

Heidi’s hair mimics/mirrors the design in her dress!  Oh, TLo….!!!

    • ASK26

Haha. Good point. I’d have to but the fabric and make it myself

    • notdorothygale

I’m reassured that Heidi is desgning scrumptuous garments for the consumers of tomorrow.

    • alula_auburn

lol, am I projecting, or were they distinctly unenthused by Anya?

      • Spicytomato1

I thought the same thing. Including thinking I was projecting.

    • ASK26

don’t the contestants looked thrilled to see her

    • cheesebomb

      • cheesebomb

Fabio and Christopher both managed to send baggy boring clothes that covered up their patterns down the runway.

The rose again in the skirt!!!!!!

    • cheesebomb

Hey, look, Ven added a rose.

    • alula_auburn

Oh, lulz, I didn’t even realize he did another damn skirt rose.

    • Joe J

Ven, the point was the print, not your damn origami.  AGAIN.

    • PastryGoddess

Why is it that every time I look at Anya, I have to stop myself from throwing things at the screen?

      • ChristinaRi

I always think it’s because of the “edgy” hair combined with the pageant girl smile.

        • Lisa_Cop

I think it’s the no talent that manipulated the win. I hated Gretchen but at least she could make sleeves, insert zippers and had some range.

      • l_c_ann

        Because screens do break.

    • Stubenville

Like Melissa’s print, but that’s a damn basic dress.

      • AnneElliot

I disagree, I think if she had done anything too complicated it would have fought with the print.  And it was beautifully tailored and fit the model perfectly.

    • http://eclectictsunami.blogspot.in/ Cassie

Oh my god Ven ENOUGH WITH THE FUCKING ROSES ALREADY PLEASE.

I’m surprised by how much I like Sonjia’s. I think it’s quite cute, actually.

…closing my eyes and crossing my fingers… Oh please oh please oh please…  Loved his jacket–the cut-out idea was pretty cool.

    • Jasmaree

Gunnar FTW. He’s been getting the winner’s edit all night anyway.

Dmitry’s jacket is really cool though. Doesn’t even look possible.

      • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

        I loooove Dmitry’s.

        • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

That jacket is amazing.  So he’s in the top or the bottom, because he’s still up on the runway.  Don’t know if he qualifies for a win, but I think he’s safe, at least.  I hope so anyway.

          • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

I think he could be in top for execution, or bottom for not using enough print.

    • notdorothygale

      Fall 2012 for Forever XXI.

    • NDC_IPCentral

      Dimitry’s jacket is really impressive.

    • alula_auburn

I’m meh on Dmitry’s print itself, but I really like the concept of the jacket.

    • ASK26

I do too Dmitry. Fabioq is a faIl for not using empty print….wth

    • ChristinaRi

Elena got lucky, imo.   That outfit was hideous.    So funny how she hypes herself saying it was the most modern of any of the looks.

      • Lisa_Cop

Elena was right originally. Looks like hospital scrubs.

    • MilaXX

Sonjia’s – print pants are really pretty.
Elena – Not loving that jacket. looks like a bowling shirt.
Chrsitophers – ugly, he hates it and it shows
Ven – Geriatric. Been there, done that – one way monkey
Fabio – I like his print, I wish he hadn’t added the overlay.
Melissa – my vote for stewardess remark. Looks like Hawaiian Air uniform.
Gunnar – Not bad, but I wish he had done pants with this jacket
Dmitry – There’s a lot of work in that look.
Top for me Sonjia, Gunnar and maybe Dmitry

      • ASK26

Hey that is what Melissa could have done… A bowling shirt :)

    • http://eclectictsunami.blogspot.in/ Cassie

If Ven is in the top 3, my cats will probably be frightened away by all the screaming.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_ZBFH32YG44LIIZYLSQPMBXMYCU Sarah

Thanks. I played it cool, but cried all the way home from work. Sometimes a boss is just more than a boss, you know? Doesn’t help that I’ve heard the new boss is a dragon lady…at least I’ve got fashion and new babies to think about! And plenty of drinks. I’m going ghetto and getting my Icehouse beer on tonight, because payday is tomorrow and I need it cheap & dirty for to pretend I’m still 21 without a care in the world…

      • ChristinaRi

I alway thought ice house beer was redneck.   :D

        • formerlyAnon

Where I’ve been they’re about 1/3 frat/sorority, 1/3 low-rider/cholo, 1/3 basic working class male & sometimes, their girlfriends/wives. [Not the same ice house, at the same time. Obviously.]

    • CozyCat

Awww.  I really liked the way Elena integrated her print and her design.

And Fabio isn’t going to explain his copulating print to the judges.  Sigh….

    • PastryGoddess

Is it just me or does Dimitry either go too long or too short?

That dress seemed a little high for me

    • hoez

I really hate Dmitry after watching the behind the scenes stuff. Blah. I hope he goes home… or Ven.

      • Jasmaree

        What behind the scenes stuff?

        • hoez

Mainly the videos on YouTube/myLifetime that show a bit more of what we see on the show. :/ He seems really hard to deal with… Like Elena is hard to deal with but jeez… I think he doesn’t know how to listen.

    • PastryGoddess

Steel Magnolias for black people…ummm thanks Lifetime, I’m …..honored…yeah…honored that’s it

      • http://eclectictsunami.blogspot.in/ Cassie

All those actresses deserve so much better than goddamn Lifetime-version Steel Magnolias. Jeebus.

        • CozyCat

It’s an ensemble movie providing lots of juicy female parts.  How many of those do they make these days?  (Well, there was that spectacularly awful remake of “The Women” a few years back….)

    • Maria Rosenfire

Damnit I kind of want to watch the Lifetime version of Steel Magnolias. I generally only watch Lifetime movies with a collection of really snarky friends and maybe a drinking game, but there is so much fierce in that cast that I’m not sure I can stop myself.

      • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

I love Alfre Woodard. She crackles with fierce in EVERYTHING.

      • MilaXX

I’m watching it for the cast alone.

      • Judy Raddue

I think it looks better than the original, less cartoony.  Jill Scott is at least as fine an actor as singer.  Phylicia Rashad, post-Cosby, as renowned as one of the great theater actors.  As for Alfre – truly underappreciated.

    • amian3

I thought Fabio had one of the best looking prints but I don’t think what he did with it is that exciting. Missed opportunity.

      • Spicytomato1

Yes. And his BF’s “Very nice,” was not exactly a ringing endorsement.

    • alula_auburn

Did Lifetime really just run a spot for “Judgement Time” as part of the “Your Time.  Life Time” campaign?  hahahahahahaha

    • ChristinaRi

Now we will hear Anya judging sleeves and jackets and pants.

      Should be instructive.

    • ASK26

Heidi… You are German right…wings with red and white are perfect for the polish flag

    • Stubenville

If Anya says anything about construction, I’m going to scream.

    • MilaXX

      Mondo’s critiques >>>>>>>>> Anya’s critiques

      • Beth Gardner

I keep screaming for the two of them to just shut the fuck up. Neither one of them has a damn good thing to say. Mondo is just repeating whatever he was told to say and Anya is too, too, too … okay, you fill in the word. She is unable to sew or design, ergo, she has nothing to contribute and should not be there. And, no, I haven’t read everone else’s comments – I just so pissed off right now I can’t see straight!!!

      • CozyCat

Yeah, I thought she might be an OK judge.  But she was useless.

      • http://twitter.com/snowgall Teresa Galloway

I thought Mondo was one of the best judges they’ve ever had. Everything he said was observant and knowledgeable and on point, but never bitchy just for the sake of being bitchy.

    • Kimbolina

Wow, Anya’s comment was just SO insightful.

    • dschubba

Anya should be banned from telling other designers they need to “push it.”

      • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

        I know!!!!

      • watchmeboogie

Agreed! My immediate response was, “Say what, Caftan?”

    • Call me Bee

Oh sorry.  I thought Ven was actually from India–not just Indian heritage.

      • Stubenville

I thought he was from an android factory.

      • MilaXX

But notice how snotty he was in making sure that it was clear that he was Indian.

    • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

hi kids! i’m just checking in here before i watch the episode on dvr.  i’m back to work on a textile commission after many and various summer diversions, and almost forgot this is runway night.  i wanted to let you know what i’m serving here:  tropical rum punch-  two shots of gold rum, juice of half a lime. fill the glass with orange, mango, and pineapple juices and float a shot or amaretto.  who’s ready?

    • BrooklynBomber

I really don’t like seeing former winners who don’t have much more experience themselves (and sometimes less experience) give critiques.

      • Call me Bee

Agreed.   If Jay or Christian came back–that would be something, as they have both been in the business for a while.

        • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

          Yeah, that’s true.

    • DinaSews

Ugh. Bringing Anya in to judge is really a slap in the face.

    • Maria Rosenfire

Mondo and Anya both seem to be criticizing designers about things that they’re guilty of.

      • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

        Interesting – you’re right.

      • SapphoPoet

        Agree.

    • http://eclectictsunami.blogspot.in/ Cassie

My blood pressure goes up a little bit every time Anya offers a critique.

      • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

“Oh, good… the chick with hooker makeup and half a hairdo loves my outfit…”

    • ChristinaRi

omg.  they are being really mean to Gunnar.

      • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

I know, this is harsh.  I feel bad for him.

      • http://eclectictsunami.blogspot.in/ Cassie

Poor Gunnar. I thought it was kind of sucky too, but it still felt kind of unnecessarily personal.

      • VicksieDo

He spoke up for himself though.

      • Spicytomato1

Agree. You could just see the light go out of his eyes. Sad.

        • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

And somehow, they never mentioned the thing that I disliked most.  Those buttons were awful.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t his original design call for a longer pencil skirt?  That would have worked much better.

    • dress_up_doll

Dmitry had BETTER win this challenge.

      • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

Honey, I think he’s gonna this time!

      • MilaXX

Dmitry did a lot of work, but I think Sonjia’s is more polished.

    • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

Oh, god, thank you.  The judges just orgasmed over Dmitry’s look, so I feel A LOT better!

    • VicksieDo

      Just shut up Anya…

    • Spicytomato1

Wow, Anya, STFU. And laughing at MK’s critique of Gunnar. Classy.

      • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

        She’s the worst.

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_PBGUD7Y6KYRNL7PCKYNPD2UGSM Carol

I want to snatch that damn no-talent bitch BALD!  How dare she laugh when Gunnar was sharing about the pain of being bullied!

    • DinaSews

      Someone make her shut up.

    • ASK26

heidi that is the 1 you are calling bizarre…. Anya okay B.
      now you’re criticizing TJ Maxx

    • Judy Raddue

Gunnar looks like he’s going to punch the judges.

    • MilaXX

Mondo is pretty good as a judge.

      • ASK26

I don’t like Sonjia’s pants it almost seems like he chose them because they’re too much like his

    • BrooklynBomber

Did Mondo say, “it looks crappy”?

      • alula_auburn

That’s what I heard, but my captions said “crafty.”

      • MilaXX

crafty. and I agree with him.

    • hoez

Oh dear. I think Elena is getting a winner edit like CRAZY in this episode.

    • dschubba

They really should have been clearer on whether the print was meant to represent the designer’s “cultural heritage” or just something “personal”.

      • cheesebomb

Yea, I thought the surprise with the tablets was going to be a dossier about their ethnic/cultural heritage and they would have to design around that.

        • dschubba

           I did, as well.

        • l_c_ann

It would have been more interesting.

Pictures as children?  great if you are kinfolk, otherwise………………

      • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

Well, they’ve been saying “cultural heritage”, but I’m still pretty uncomfy about them beating Gunnar up over something so personal.

    • Stubenville

Yea, Anya – she made SLEEVES.

    • Joe J

Holy shit, for the first time since I can’t remember when, I actually totally 100% agree with every designer’s placement. Not one designers’ feedback from the judges is making me scream at the TV. I even agree that Melissa’s was barely a top three design.

      • http://eclectictsunami.blogspot.in/ Cassie

I totally agree. Plus, my two favorites are getting the most praise. YAY!

    • berkeleygirl

      Me, too!  Even the jingle…

    • nosniveling

wow Mondo is a really good judge.

    • ASK26

Ugh Mondo they look like those ridiculously high waisted pants you always did

      • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

Hey, some of us like ridiculously high waisted pants (ie those of us with long torsos and short legs).

        • ASK26

If your torso is pong they would seem in proportion. His always seemed way out of proportion

        • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

I feel your pain — I discovered recently that my sister-in-law needs the same skirt length I do even though she is 4 inches shorter.

    • MilaXX

Why is Christopher such a Debbie downer? Did the family visit have the opposite effect on him?

      • alula_auburn

His eye-bugging in the green room is hilarious.  He’s like a cartoon character emoting.

    • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

I’m gonna be nice and say that Gunnar’s print has a Schiaparelli-esque feel in the way it’s drawn. I like that about it.

      • CozyCat

The problem is that the design of the jacket made it look like a calico.

    • berkeleygirl

I’d go with Ven since he started out so strong. That said, I hope it’s Gunnar – he truly needs to get over himself.

    • Call me Bee

I hate to say it–but Anya’s hair is just driving me nuts.  I just want to take a razor to the other side of her head and shave the whole thing.  SHe’s a beautiful girl–she could handle it…

      • BrooklynBomber

I  know — you’d think she’d be done with that look.

      • MilaXX

I see so many people, both men and women with the half shaved head or sides shaved that is doesn’t even register to me.

    • Girl_With_a_Pearl

Arghhh.  Everytime Anya says something I kept saying, “what would you know about sewing?”

    • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

      I desperately covet Dmitry’s suit.

    • alula_auburn

OMG TIM in the judges zone!

      • http://eclectictsunami.blogspot.in/ Cassie

        That was really odd.

        • Lisa_Cop

That’s a first – pulling Tim out on the runway to cross examine him about his workroom critiques. Yikes.

      • CozyCat

It felt like they knew after the “real woman” challenge that the viewers were going to hate Ven, so everyone on the show wanted to demonstrate that they hate him too.

    • Jasmaree

I’m not sure Tim knows what a maxi pad looks like.

      • cheesebomb

I was unsure until he explained it – I think he meant the splash of pink/red in the middle of a piece of white fabric that came in a bit in the middle. It’s not something I would have thought of, but I understand a bit better what he meant by it.

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_PBGUD7Y6KYRNL7PCKYNPD2UGSM Carol

Well, he does have a sister and a mom.

(Hey! Why is Disqus using my real name  tonight?)

    • Stubenville

Tim does a seagull; flies in and craps all over Ven,

      • blondie65

And it’s clear, Mondo was pulling for Gunnar over Ven.  Sigh.  I have a bad feeling how this will play out…

    • Girl_With_a_Pearl

Holy crap!  Tim’s on during the judging “discussion”.  Never in the history of project Runway…

    • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

Okay, wait, did Anya just say Gunnar’s look was in bad taste?  ANYA said something was in bad taste?   Anya, HON… the world’s first introduction to you was in a sex tape, so let’s not go there, okay?

      • blondie65

Yeah, I know.  Really?  Please. If Mondo wasn’t on the panel, this is the episode I would have turned off.  They must just hate us fans…putting Mondo & Anya together on the judging panel.

    • StelledelMare

Did Michael Kors say that the judges have told Ven about his overuse of the rose motif? Because I could be crazy but I don’t ever remember them saying (at least from what we’ve seen) anything about it.

      • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

I think they told him once when he was on the runway.  I forget the challenge, but I seem to remember it.

      • AnneElliot

I think they mentioned it in last week’s judging.  I can’t remember a single outfit he’s made WITHOUT a rose folding technique incorporated.  Even Christopher tried to get away from his signature shredding look.

    • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

Ven HAS to go home. The producers must realize he hasn’t produced interesting clothing OR drama.

    • ASK26

Wtf drugs are those people on . I don’t love Gunnar’s but it is far from hate . and Tim was basically an ahole

    • http://www.thirteen.org/downton-abbey/category/the-downton-dish/ Gotham Tomato

Anya is sitting there with half a shaved head and claiming someone else is in bad taste?

      Seriously?

      –GothamTomato

      • Stubenville

Uh yea. At least she managed to not criticize the way someone executed a sleeve

    • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

In 10 seasons, there have been a lot of things I loved, a lot of work that impressed me and a lot of finished pieces I went “wow, I could not have come up with that garment.”  But Dmitri’s jacket is the first that I had to really pour over the construction of it, wondering how it was done, because it was so interesting from concept to execution.

      • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

I know, it’s amazing – I can’t even figure out how he did that.  They have to give him the win for this, finally, don’t they?

      • EllenS

I think both Dmitry and Sonjia (but Dmitry squared) brought the architecture of the print into other “solid” garment elements, Dmitry in the ZOMG!Jacket and Sonjia’s top.  That wowed me.

        • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

I love Sonjia’s look and any other time I would have given her the win.  But that jacket was so incredible.  So gorgeous.  I never use anyone else’s patterns but that one I’d kill for.

      • EveEve

Elena’s jacket was really good too – but it barely got any air time. I hope TLo put up some good screen shots of it.  I thought the print was much more creative than most of the geometric repeats, and she did a good job of incorporating it into her design.

        • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

I hated that print of Elena’s.  Something about it just struck me as ugly on a visceral level — it’s not something I can analyze, really because its flaws are not what is inspiring the hatred.  And it’s not that I just dislike her, since I abhor Ven and his print merely bored me.

          • AnneElliot

I agree completely, it just reminded me of something a pediatric nurse would wear.  My daughter said it looked like spaceships landing on jellyfish.

And thanks for your usage of “visceral level.”  God bless Tim Gunn and his vocabulary!

    • BuffaloBarbara

I love Dmitry’s.  I recognize the great work that Sonjia did, but I have this thing about print pants, and I just can’t get behind them, no matter how tricky they are.

I’m not sure we needed to see Tim come out for the judging there, but I get why they wanted to know.  Still, they’re not supposed to be judging based on the workroom stuff (yeah, right).

    • BobStPaul

Major bullshit.   Christopher’s is flat out ugly, the worst look on the runway.  And I hate Anya being a judge and I’m less than thrilled with Mondo as well.

    • OhSayNow

I want to kick Anya in the shins every time she opens her big, sleeveless mouth.

      • http://eclectictsunami.blogspot.in/ Cassie

I don’t know why, but the phrase “sleeveless mouth” is just hilarious to me.

      • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

OMG!  Her big sleeveless mouth is probably one of the greatest things I’ve ever read on here!

    • ChristinaRi

I don’t like them calling on Tim.   I sort of thought that was not right.

    • alula_auburn

The runway shows from this week are even weirder in the wake of this week’s judging.

    • Stubenville

      Yay Dimitri! Finally!

    • ChristinaRi

OH Dimtry won!   I’m glad he finally got a win although Sonjia was also deserving.

    • blondie65

YES YES YES!!!! I told my husband, I would give anyone my c/c right now for that jacket!!!! YES!!!

    • http://eclectictsunami.blogspot.in/ Cassie

        • AthenaJ

           Woo-hoooo!!!!!

    • MilaXX

That won? Honestly feels like a reward for not making a dress. I just think Sonjia had a more complete look.

      • Spicytomato1

I thought so, too. Plus Dmitry hadn’t yet won a challenge and Sonjia had just won again last week. I love Dmitri but I call BS.

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_YAMNQMUGFM4NNSPAQLZRODSD5I Angela

No way! Sonjia’s pants were just okay, but Dmitri’s impeccably tailored suit had a MAGICAL FLOATING JACKET!!! Come on, ya gotta give it up for the guy!

        • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

Yep, exactly!  That craftsmanship was impeccable.  And not to take away from Sonjia, her outfit was adorable.  But it was a well tailored pair of pants, and a slim fitting top.  It was pretty but not earth shattering.  Dmitry’s was amazing!

      • AthenaJ

It was a close one, but I agree w/ the comment a few of the judges made about Dmitry taking it to the next level by making the jacket so architecturally inspired by the print. Plus, the way Sonjia’s pants were loose combined w/ the print really reminded me of pajamas…

    • NDC_IPCentral

FINALLY.  Dimitry – your confessional comment was brilliant.  Thank you for a measured, wry and adult reaction.

    • EllenS

“How about that” in the yummy accent.  Sigh!!!!

          • http://www.facebook.com/mary.nease Mary Nease

I’ve been sewing for less than three months and I’m quite certain my skills are more advanced than hers. While watching the show, I was working on sewing a dress that involved gathering, shirring, yokes, a collar, and SLEEVES (with a band, no less!). I couldn’t take her serious before I started learning, and now that I actually do know how to sew, she’s a complete joke to me. YES!  And it’s his, finally!

    • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

Oh, come on!!!  Gunnar’s out over Ven?  This just doesn’t sit right with me.

      • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

        Ditto.

      • AthenaJ

Agreed, Ven totally deserved to go home after all the harping they were doing about him and the flower thing. Gunnar at least put his heart out there, and I actually thought his print was one of the most interesting.

    • Stubenville

      And goodbye, shrieking howler monkey.

    • blondie65

      Damn.  I knew it.

    • dschubba

      Boooooo!

    • Maria Rosenfire

Aw, I was just starting to like Gunnar. But his collection makes me think that this was probably a good choice.

    • amian3

I’m with Mondo on this one. It’s a print challenge and while Dimitry did use the print he also didn’t use the print. On that basis Sonjia should have won.

      • ASK26

I think to Dmitry rocked it . The jacket not only highlighted the print it mimiced it with the shape of the cut outs

        • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

Exactly.  You could still see the print with her jacket opened, and you could see the print through the cut outs.  He nailed this one.

      • MilaXX

Much like the candy challenge he didn’t fully embrace the challenge. The jacket was the star, not the print. Sonjia’s look celebrated the print and then had a great top that accentuated it.

        • lilyofbp

The jacket and the print worked together.  I really liked the print, but it would have been too much for a whole outfit.  The jacket was brilliant, but partially because it showed off the print so cleverly.

        • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

Nope.  Sorry, I disagree completely.  That jacket over any plain top goes limp — the color and geometric nature of the print highlight and elevate the genius of the jacket.

And just last week they told him they didn’t want to just keep seeing the same thing and they wanted something other than a dress.  If he wasn’t going to make a dress, there weren’t a lot of ways to showcase that particular print.  By doing it in black, and with all those cutouts, he kept the focus up top, where the print was, and kept drawing your eye back to the print as she moved.

          • MilaXX

Ueah I know it’s an unpopular opinion, but the jacket is the star and from reading this blog and a few others all I see is “the jacket the jacket” You could have put any saturated color under that jacket and it’s going to pop because that jacket is awesome. But the point was the print and I think Sonjia did a better job showcasing it.
But that brings me back to one of my pet peeves with the show The judges always claim to adhere to the “one day you’re in, the next day you’re out”, but this is a clear case of judging based on body of work. All season Dmitry has delivered solid, well made garments.and gotten no wins. He knew he needed to step it up and make something besides a dress with a few design elements. He finally did that and got his win. I’m not made he won, it’s a good design, I still hate the bag he paired with it, but he won for that jacket, not his print.

            • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

I don’t think any color would have worked — you needed those strong lines and sharp contrasts too.  Just color would have simply read as piping.  As it was, with every movement you could see those lines moving on the pattern below and it drew the eye.  I think the print was absolutely integral to the design, which is the point of the challenge; it’s not about who can use the most print, but rather who can use the print most effectively.

            • zbkat

Also, the geometry of the cut-outs tied in with the geometry of the print. If you look at the negative space of the cutouts it mirrors the lines of the single design that was multiplied to make the print. Genius. I wish one of the judges would have commented on that.

          • khh1138

That totally stuck in my craw, too.  Yeah, I’m sure Andrea, at 58, is making her life decisions based on how they will affect Christopher, 24, whom she has known for 5 minutes.

          • dschubba

            We are TV twins.

    • BrooklynBomber

Poor Gunnar. you know, I think he tried to be strategic, thinking about Mondo’s “positive” print and wanting to have a Lifetime moment, but it was a calculated decision, not a creative one, and it backfired. With a name like Gunnar Deatherage, I wish he had gone with his heritage!

      • Spicytomato1

That was my take on his strategy, too. I had a feeling something so calculated would backfire, but not to the point of getting him auf’d.

        • Lisa_Cop

Both Ven and Dmitry commented on Gunnar’s lack of solid sewing skills. I think poor execution ( which is not always seen on tv) is what got him auf’d.

    • bitchybitchybitchy

and the subtitle is: “Sleeves are toooo hard!”

    • MissMariRose

I suppose that Heidi’s comment about seeing one more rose from Ven bodes well for fashion week.

      • SewingSiren

I think Ven is most definitely not in the finale (for judgement).

    • dress_up_doll

Yay, Dmitry!!! Finally! That jacket was stunning! Woo-hoo!

    • PastryGoddess

Lotta bitching going on next week

    • bitchybitchybitchy

But isn’t it always ALL about Costello-Lite, in his mind?

    • Call me Bee

I would have been ok with either Gunnar or Ven getting the auf, but in this case Ven’s execution saved him. Great skills can always save a poor design.

      • BrooklynBomber

I agree. Mondo’s critique was right: too much information, too much going on. But really, really well done.

        • blondie65

I know…Mondo was a fantastic judge!!  His comments were on point, but even better, his criticisms really were not personal or mean but gave the designer direction and feedback.  He was hands down (IMHO) the best judge up there tonight.  (and yes, I have a huge Mondo crush).

    • bitchybitchybitchy

I have to catch the re-run of this episode-I’ve been visiting with a friend and couldn’t get away to see this one…the things one does for friends….

      • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

I’m pissed that I can’t watch it again for now- “Dance Moms” is on instead of the repeat.

    • Pupioso

Although I can’t totally disagree with the auf, honestly Venn’s had far more issues both in styling and in design. Venn should have gone IMO but yeah Gunnar didn’t do himself any favors with the way the top of that jacket in particular was designed. And Christophers? Really? I didn’t think it was good at all.

    • VicksieDo

I would have sent Christopher home, that dress was SAD and BORING

      • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

Either him or Ven.  No way was Gunnar’s the worst look up there.

        • MilaXX

           Agreed

      • http://profile.yahoo.com/6PQUNH7VYANAXMRMEEM763V3EU victor liu

But he’s adorable enough that the producers just haaaaad to keep him. Ugh x 1000.

    • hoez

Oh my goodness…  Ven did a flower print. Duhhhrrrrp.

Will pull a T&L and say: “Of course.”

    • Pam Winters

OMG, Heidi’s wearing a treasure trail dress.

    • Meelah

Loved Dimitries Jacket and the effect with the top but that skirt looked like something they sold at G+G Rave in the 90s.  Sonjia’s was great top to bottom but I guess they decided to stop neglecting Demitri.

I laughed my ass off when Tim said Ven’s dress was an ode to a Menstrual Cycle.

    • SewingSiren

Well Dmitry finally gets his win, though I thought Melissa’s was a little better. I guess he took a chance by not showcasing the print. His print was one of the better ones and the suit jacket was stunning.
I thought Tim was over the top with his critique of Ven. Honestly. Tim with the maxi pads again. Maybe he has a weird about them.
I didn’t hate Gunnars nearly as much as the judges did. Christopher would have been my pick for the auf.

      • BrooklynBomber

Christopher’s was probably THE most-seen silhouette in the history of Project Runway. Completely unoriginal.

        • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_YAMNQMUGFM4NNSPAQLZRODSD5I Angela

It reminds me of The Real Costello’s Miss Piggy dress…

      • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

I really loved Melissa’s, too.  I thought it was beautiful.  But I think Dmitri’s showed a bit more design skill than Melissa’s, though they both had excellent construction.

        • 3boysful

Agreed, but if the focus of the challenge is print, Melissa showcased it better.  I would not only wear her dress, I would buy it.

      • BuffaloBarbara

I’d have picked that one for the auf, too–the shape was boring and not well executed, the print was nothing special (not terrible, but not great), and he was so afraid of said print that he covered it up… in an especially awkward way.  The dress would have still been “done” without the cover-up, but I think that it might have been salvageable if we could actually see the colors in it.

    • PaulaBerman

For a second there I thought Anya’s bitching might cost Dmitry the win, and I was all ready to go thermonuclear all over the place. The styling? Really? Sez the woman with the faux hawk and side boob. Guffaw. Fortunately, Heidi and Michael seemed to ignore her prattling and gave my fave the win. YAY DMITRY. It’s about time. That jacket was hot. I want it.

      • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

She didn’t really bitch — it was Mondo carrying on about how he didn’t showcase the print enough, and Anya disagreed.  And frankly, I thought Nina really had the best judgment of the night when she pointed out that Dmitri used the print brilliantly.  Yes, the jacket was the show stopper, but without that vibrant geometric under the jacket, it would have lost so much.  It needed that print to really shine.

    • http://twitter.com/otterbird otterbird

I knew from the moment Gunnar said he would buy his mom a boob job with the money that he was auf’ed.  These people aren’t actors, and a lot of the interviews are obviously filmed after they’ve been booted.  They give a lot away without meaning to.  Gunnar, you did a nice job trying to sound bright and hopeful, but, in the words of those great philosophers, the Eagles, you can’t hide your lyin’ eyes.

      • http://twitter.com/otterbird otterbird

Goddamnit.  Now I’ve given myself an earworm.

        • Pennymac

Gee thanks. Now I’ve got one too. But I do agree with everything you said about Gunnars auf. And your smile is a thin diguise….

    • http://twitter.com/angelestrails Natasha

Darniiiiit, I figured Ven was the menstrual fabric designer, but I was so so wrong about him being auf’d. Not only is that rose motif/pleating/origami business tired, but the dress was not well made, that skirt looked overworked, and was it Mondo who said it looked like 3 different dresses? Agreed. Poor Gunnar. His wasn’t the worst. :(

But…GO DMITRY!!!!!!!! Don’t agree with Mondo about the underuse of print. That jacket beautifully picked up on the pattern of the print.

      • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

I know – the cut outs in the jacket mimicked the shape of the print – it was genius, I don’t know how he did that!

      • Laylalola

Mondo is the king of mixing wild — and wildly different — prints, so it’s really not surprising to me that to his eye Dmitry’s approach might seemed overly subdued and the print underused. It’s possible to have a world where both flourish and are exceptional in their own way: I like that both Mondo and Dmitry won this challenge in their seasons.

    • alyce1213

Heidi’s little whistle when she gave Ven the warning was gold.  Really cute.

      • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

        I know, that was brilliant.

        • sisterb67

And I loved that the whistle came along with the threat of “we’d better not see that damn rose again”!

      • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

        *POSSIBLY SPOILERY*

He has to be out before finales, though. There’s no way he showed that entirely rose collection to the judges – surely it’s a decoy. He’d have to be pretty stubborn since I’m sure Tim’s entire visit would then be a giant fight.

        • ZnSD

That was EXACTLY my thought too. He’s totally a decoy, and a big ol’ FU! decoy at that! lol

    • Corazon Nunez

Who will Costello-lite fight with now??

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_OQG2B3GDOIKSFYT6YDXFVOMEM4 A. Lure

Story-lines abound: Chris/Gun– ostensibly disliking each other & questioning each others’ sincerity & engaging in a reaction-formation process– not-so-secretly wanting to fuck each inside tulle sacks… yeah, they “made up” because, according to the narrative, they found out they’d had parallel lives.. of course!. Parents/siblings/significant others are invited, ostensibly to support their sons/daughters/boyfriends (which they do), but in fact it is done to “fill up” the time it takes to transpose & manufacture the print into fabric with “this-is-how-I-was-raised/this-is-the-adversity-I-overcame” shticks befitting Lifetime. Look, I’m not trivializing anyone’s past hurts or past joys or whatnot, but such things should be left outside a design competition. Of course, this is no *design* competition; it is very much, if not mostly, about agent-interfered-with dynamics (producers/scripts), and that’s fine, but it’s hilarious when said producers *try* to pass such things as organic and circumstance-arisen.

      • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

I love the print challenge, though, and they do have to do something with that time.  I think it’s nice they get a visit from home to help break the stress, regardless of how contrived.

    • watchmeboogie

      Hooray Dmitry, finally!! Well-deserved.

      • BuffaloBarbara

It really was–that jacket was a-freakin’-mazing.  Good in execution, and a fabulously creative idea to boot.

    • nannypoo

OK, can I just say, Anya as a judge. Give me a break. She has that stupid hairdo and she criticizes someone’s styling? She designed the same dress with the same side boob week after week and we’re supposed to care what she thinks about someone else’s work? At least she had the good sense not to comment on anyone’s sleeves.

    • guest2visits

Anya was a lame judge (not surprised). Sorry to say I didn’t think Mondo’s critique was that good either (surprised).
Dimitry’s suit was truely unique and interesting, but why didn’t the judges ask to remove the jacket and reveal the all important
print?  Cuz; first of all it was a decent print that he thought up, and second; wasn’t everyone else’s print being scrutinized?
I guess I thought that the jacket’s design could have supported almost any contrasting color underneath; and it was a design that
depended on the jacket, and the skirt to make it work, not the print.  I thought Melissa’s depended on the print and the design
of the dress worked perfectly with it – I thought the dress was VERY pretty. Sonjia’s design also depended on the print she created,
and the pattern was very cool and the outfit was meticulously made.
Ven’s wasn’t wearable; even with the attractive skirt design – the top was a wreck. Gunnar’s wasn’t very trendy, but I felt he put
more work into his pieces and his print than Ven. Unfortunately; Christopher’s was also a wreck. And I didn’t think the judges would
have considered Fabio’s to be safe; the print was a fail to me – it was undiscernable in a nondescript kind of outfit.

      • pdquick

I was stunned. They had Tim come up and diss Ven, who really desperately deserved it, and then the auf’d Gunnar. I think they just did it for dramatic effect. Poor Gunnar. What’s his mom going to do down there in Florida with no boobs?

        • AnneElliot

I was sad to see Gunnar go, he really turned out to be a sweetheart.  But I think it ultimately came down to Ven’s two previous wins over a lot of mediocre stuff from Gunnar.  I know Gunnar was cut first a couple of seasons ago, I just wish he’d waited a couple more years before trying again.  I think he just needed more experience.

I do think the judges ultimately got it right, though I HATED Elena’s look.  I just hope this week’s top three make it to the finals, I really think they deserve it most.

        • guest2visits

Hee hee – totally!  What a shopping list he had!  How sad, back to Florida and the same old boobs.
Looking over the stills, I now think Fabio’s was as bad or worse then Vens. In fact. I think Gunnar’s was better
than Ven’, Fabio’s and Christophers; not by much. And his last two dresses were perfect for the team challenge.

    • Toto Maya

Whether or not you like Gunnar, you have to admit that there is no way Anya could have made a look like that. It felt so ridiculous to have her criticizing him or criticizing people for not being “Creative” enough when she spent her entire season with a glue gun making the same look over and over.

      • http://profile.yahoo.com/6PQUNH7VYANAXMRMEEM763V3EU victor liu

Well she’s only been sewing for four months, so anytime she sends a model down a runway vaguely clothed, the judges explode in a fountain of jizz.

        • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

Please.  When I’d been sewing for four months I could make you a whole hell of lot more than that.

          • SRQkitten

With every critical comment she made, I was like, “this from the bitch who can’t sew a sleeve. Really!”

She needs to disappear into the PR past, not to be reclaimed.

srq (who on this one really IS a bitter kitten)

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=26000228 Stephanie Semonite Bogatyr

Dude, if freaking ANYA told me that my look was “non-fashion,” or that I “should have pushed it a little further,” I’d be like “AT LEAST IT HAS SLEEVES, YOU HACK.” Missed opportunities, designers.

      • pdquick

LOL. Giggled for a full minute.

    • Presumptuous Insect

OK, so I finally saw a bit of color. A bit. But it was all ruined because I had to look at what’s-her-name’s hideous shaved head. Where the hell are the Daleks when you want to see some EXTERMINATING?

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_5KDTLDJA7ZBCPDP6HV4FZMJDII Indigo

Once again, everyone acts as if Anya ran over their Dog.
Or that she somehow awarded herself with the title of Winner of Project Runway instead of Heidi and Company.

Is anya a great designer? Heavens no. But everyone acts like she’s scum when she’s rarely shown herself to be anything but nice on the show.

      • dschubba

Anya does  seem like a very sweet person, but the show she won wasn’t a politeness pageant.

        • Lisa_Cop

She’s very manipulative. Josh McK helped her all season and when he asked her for something (I’ve forgotten what) she declined because “it’s a competition”. Well in my book she’s a b***h.

          • dschubba

That was a dick move, for sure. I guess what I meant was that, in the history of PR alumni, I can think of a bunch of personalities I’d like to encounter less than Anya. I don’t think she’s a bad person, but she’s a very weak designer and criticism of her win is usually pretty justified.

(I say “usually” because I don’t really care about her sex tape. PR isn’t a metric for awarding morality or tastefulness, or whatever you want to call it. The crime was giving the win to a designer who could only be called competent on her best day and who brought almost nothing to the table in terms of actual design.)

      • http://profile.yahoo.com/6PQUNH7VYANAXMRMEEM763V3EU victor liu

We’re just bitter. We’re the Bitter Kittens after all.

For all our jabs at Anya, yes she is a genuinely nice person. If Project Runway was a Miss Congeniality pageant, yes she should have won. But it’s not.

And the Anya jokes are just soooo easy, it’s too tempting not to. There’s so much you can work with. The sex tape, the Miss Universe, the no-sleeves, the caftans, the “only four months herp derp”, the half-shaved mermaid ‘do, the tragic outfit she’s wearing. So much material.

      • pdquick

No one was saying that Anya awarded the title to herself. We were saying she bought it.

I was really hoping that “heritage” wouldn’t boil down to “this is my personal angst story,” and make them examine culture and history.  Apparently, “This happened to me once” is now “heritage.”  I should have known.

When they first announced it, I was trying to think of how I’d answer it without being too literal.  I’m about half Anglo, the others being German and Pennsylvania Dutch.  Maybe the stark lines of Puritan architecture?  Some reference to a barn charm, or to the old handmade furniture that’s been kicking around the family–dovetail joints might make an interesting pattern.  But I guess, given PR’s interpretation, it would have had to be spatters of make-up from my high school drama club, the only place where I truly felt free in my horrific high school life.  (Okay, only sort of sarcastic.)  It felt like it should be about learning to get ideas from a concrete source and turn them into an abstract artwork, not like one that should have gone for the fuzzy feelings.

My bigger question is, why would I, as a buyer, want to wear someone else’s personal story to work, and explain it all to my friends while wearing some great new frock?  “Why yes, this is a great jacket, isn’t it?  It’s all about being bullied.  No, not me, some designer I haven’t met, but he promises that’s what it’s about.”  The actual challenge would have netted more interesting and usable prints, and did for those who used it–“Yes, the designer’s Belorussian, it’s based on traditional design elements there” or “It’s the colors of the Polish flag–I’m wearing it for Dyngus Day!”

…yeah, I have to say Gunnar whining “this is my heritage” about him being bullied made ME want to strangle him, and I have a similar story. It was truly a “bitch, please” moment. But Yay Dmitry finally won! :)

They tell them to use their cultural heritage, but then add “Don’t be to literal”. That hampers doing anything very ethnic or very pictorial.

Hope the kitty is ok and back home.

So many .gif worthy moments in the episode, particularly Insane in the Ukraine skipping through Mood. Also, a montage of Tim saying “menstrual”

      I WANT Nina’s shirt. WANT.

The judging — I give up. Gunnar’s piece in no way appeared to be the disaster they insisted it was, he probably shouldn’t have even been in the bottom three. And my God if they’re not kicking Ven off at this point he’ll be in the finale.

Is it just me, or is Ven’s perfect customer a wealthy 70-year-old woman in Palm Springs?

Taking a power nap covered in kitties sound marvelous! My cranky old kitty won’t do that.
