PR: Judging the Judges, Week 9

Posted on September 14, 2012

Hit it, attention hos.

Heidi Klum

There’s something wrong with a dress that makes Heidi Klum look hairy and flat-chested. Nothing else need be said

This Week’s Score: 2/5

Cumulative S10 Score: 3.329/5

Anya Ayoung-Chee

As Anya looks go, this is pretty chic and put together. That print is gorgeous. We don’t love the blousiness of the top, but everything else works really well. Love the ring, the necklace, and the shoes. We always felt that part of the reason the judges loved her so much is because she has such a definitive personal style.

This Week’s Score: 4.25/5

Mondo Guerra

That’s the most thigh this panel’s ever seen. And considering Heidi Klum has been sitting at the end of it for the last 8 years, that’s really saying something. We like everything north of the waist, but everything south of it is just a bit too much for our delicate eyes.

This Week’s Score: 3.5/5

Previous Guest Judge Scores:
Anna Sui: 4.5/5
Bonnie Brooks: 3/5
Alice Temperley: 5/5
Joanna Coles: 4.25/5
Rachel Roy: 4/5
Hayden Pannetiere: 4/5
Krysten Ritter: 4.25/5
Dylan Lauren: 4/5
Lauren Graham:4/5
Pat Field: 4/5

Nina Garcia in Stella McCartney

Stella McCartney Pre-Fall 2012 Collection

Oh shit, you guys. We just realized something. But first let’s get to Nina’s outfit. We no like. The top looks like one of those felt boards teachers use to spell things out for pre-schoolers. The pants need to stop. Because it’s clearly Hammertime. Worst of all, you guys… WORST OF ALL… we don’t like Nina Garcia’s shoes. Oh, what a cruel, cruel world! Nina honey, we loveya, but we cannot sign off on this one.

This Week’s Score: 3/5

Cumulative S10 Score: 4.222/5

And here’s what we just realized:

WINNER, WEEK FOUR: Anya Ayoung-Chee

You guys, please don’t kill us. We never meant for this to happen.

Hmmph. Well at least some things are still right in the world.

You are clearly giving Nina a 3 in recognition of past results, because there is no way in hell that getup is worth more than a 2. Maybe 1.5. Dreadful.

    • leave_Blake_alone

    • Thathoodwink

When I watched the show and saw what Nina was wearing, I immediately thought of T&L and how much they SHOULD hate her outfit. Giving her a 3 makes me think they might be a bit too chummy with her to be objective. That outfit rated about a 1.

  • Heidi is wearing a wookie dress.

    • Violina23

      Let the wookie win….

  • Elias Pineda

anything to say abpout the stupid coments anya  made !   gurl  was a bad judge   bad one

    • hoez

Anya made better comments that didn’t make it to the episode, sadly. 🙁 They’re in the extended judgings though.

      • Elias Pineda

i can not watch that on the website is restricted for my country 🙁 but i guess if u cant make sleeves u cant judge haha

  • Carolyn White

Disliked how Nina’s top could be mistaken for HP product placement.

    • Knightley

LOL! The only reason I was liking Nina’s top was because it had the initials “Harry Potter” on it.

      • kikisayshi

        Haha! My thoughts EXACTLY!!!

  • Well, Nina is wearing a Stella McCartney top. I’ll just leave it at that.

  • I really really really dislike Anya’s look from the bottom of my heart. It’s mostly the print that bugs though. And the fact that she won one of the previous seasons having no talent what so over other than picking prints.

    • bitchybitchybitchy

For me TLo nailed it when they opined that the judges really liked that Anya has a strong personal style-not that that should have gotten her the win last season, but it really seems to explain much of their liking for her.

      • Amy

I agree…it had to be her personal style. Though I know a lot of girls with equally if not better personal style that could probably sew something other than a caftan. Hope PR never makes that mistake again!

  • tallgirl1204

Poor Nina.  She is wearing an outfit my 60-something-year-old mother wore in the early 90s.  But the shoes are kind of the best part of the outfit.  Oh dear.

    • Paige Tschebykin

I thought the shoes were the best part of the outfit. I liked them.

  • holdmewhileimnaked

i dont know why, i cannot tell you why, i surely would not do it myself but i think the reason both HK + NG were dressed so poorly this week is cos, gag me w/ a pine tree, whoever is in charge wanted all of the focus to go to the detestable princess in the front. [so help me, i was gonna actually say on the left but i would have had to pack so many qualifiers into that sentence that at least i couldnt bring myself to do it in italics.] i think it’s you but, regardless, whoever it is that keeps importuning: producers of PR, please stop trying to make anya happen is correct. w/ both the sentiment & the assumption. in thrall to just this business, i think that–almost unbelievably!!–NG + HK at least semi-willingly shoved their respective lights beneath respective bushels. wow. what does the horrible one have on these people? or what do they think theyre gonna get?

    edited for grammar.

    • aeg66

Amen. Now if they want to go back & support Uli the original & far superior creator of the look then I’d be pleased as punch.

    • formerlyAnon

There’s a lot of appeal to that producer wardrobe manipulation idea while I’m looking at La Klum. She wears some ugly clothes but are they ever *drab* ugly?

But I can’t get there from Nina. I think she’s cute as a bug, if dressed FAR less formally than she normally does on the show. And when I saw her shoes with the shape of the heel showing, I fell in moderate love with them and I won’t let a bad photo here change my mind.

  • Judy_S

I generally agree. I really disliked Heidi’s dress and also Nina’s top. I think I would give the win to Mondo, though, because I don’t mind his hairy legs. Anya’s look was certainly her look, but I am tired of it, again, already.

  • Stefanos Mantyla

Well, we might have re-discovered a reason why the fashion (and television) world would love Anya, but that still does not justify her win as a designer.

    • Call me Bee

IDK…I can’t imagine that Heidi dresses herself by herself.  She’s surrounded by designers and stylists all day–could not one of them be a trusted confidant when she’s choosing her outfits for the show?  That seems odd…

      • Stefanos Mantyla

On the one hand, I think you should be right; on the other hand, Blake Lively supposedly does not employ a stylist, and she has lucked into more good looks than Heidi has on the show! How can that be?

Also, I can believe Nina attains results attributable to her own volition. Heidi, though, is a model, so combined with outside assistance that puts her model looks to good use, would we not be seeing something more 5/5-worthy?

From where I am sitting, our hostess would totally show her up if screen caps were as readily available as they are for the American version. The first week she starts off quite similarly to Heidi, actually, with a sexy shiny minidress à la Klum. She diverges from then on, and by week 5, we can tell she is not doing it herself based on the outfit. It was the kind of outfit that had to be imagined by an outside person who put it together for her.

  • Yikes. Nina’s top is awful. But Mondo… wow. On TV I didn’t notice the shorts. I thought he dressed fabulously, he just forgot pants. Yikes. Not a good showing this week.

    • l_c_ann

The edit last night didn’t show Mondo’s legs often, if at all.  It’s sort of better than some of the other getups he selected to be photographed wearing during this ‘real’ week.  (If you dare, check out his whatever-you-call-it for the PR ten year party.

      •  Yeah, I didn’t notice the shorts until the screencaps. Most of the edits had him looking fantastic in his leopard print shirt (not just anyone can wear that!).

    • FloridaLlamaLover

Definitely looks like he walked out without his pantolones on.  And, dear Mondo, if you’re gonna show that much leg, at least wax those puppies!

  • RroseSelavy

Maybe I have taste issues, because I liked Heidi’s dress, and I thought her bod was killa in it. Then again, I’m from the Pacific Northwest, where we thrive on Sasquatch sightings, so maybe I was projecting a bit of my own heritage into the proceedings.

  • MilaXX

I may stand alone of this one, but I ain’t mad at you on this on. I think Anya is pretty and I love her personal style. It would never work on me, but she looks good.
Nina’s look is just okay and I don’t like that her hair is covering so much of the top.
I don’t even mind Mondo’s look. I think if a guy is going to wear shorts they look better without socks. Plus it’s Mondo and this is practically sedate from him.
I can’t defend Heidi. That dress is fug and styled badly.

  • Trisha26

You are both dead to me. (jk)

  • I was so distracted by Nina’s outfit, I have no idea what she said. I was trying to figure out if it spelled something or was just random. I thought the same thing about Heidi, the dress did look hairy…

  • MoHub

I could not take my eyes off Mondo’s hairy thighs. If you’re going to wear shorts like that, buddy, you’ll have to consider shaving your legs.

  • MoHub

And Anya deserves an Of Course.

Neckline cut down to the waist? Check  Full, drapey pants in a colorful print? Check. Weird, partially shaved head? Check.

    Again, Of Course.

    • Glammie

I realized that while her personal dress style still works, I am really, really over Anya’s hairstyle.  She’s taken more off and it doesn’t work.  It was always weird, but she owned it.  But now it feels a bit over.  She needs to change it up.

Well, she would if I actually cared.

    • Yeah, not hard to look good in that outfit if you’re a beauty queen. Put it on one of the “real” women, though, and I think your opinion of it would nosedive real quick…

  • aumerle

I might be alone here, but I adore Nina’s top and I plan to DIY myself one. (And yes, I realize that its DIY look might be part of what’s irritating people about it!)

    • PastryGoddess

I think it’s the Stella and McCartney part of it that is so irritating, but that may be just me 🙂

      • 3boysful

Well, probably that, but it DOES look like the theme (holidays, ABCs, etc) sweaters that elementary teachers and young moms wear.  My own boys used tom love those! 😉

      • bitchybitchybitchy

At least Nina ditched that dreadful skirt-my eyes!!!!!!!!!!!

    • l_c_ann

For DIY, you might want to look into “felting” onto a sweater you already have.  There are some neat books in most libraries and the only hard to get part (at least here in the boondocks) is the felting needle and Amazon has them.

      • Glammie

That’s a great idea.  Time to get out the knitting waste yarn and some old sweaters.  I have the felting tools.  Thanks.

      • aumerle

Oh, I have plenty of needles and roving! That is a good idea…

  • Sara__B

Heidi’s dress is one of the ugliest dresses I’ve ever seen. Nina looks … frumpy? (Is this a sign of the Apocalypse?) Anya’s hair is so unflattering that I scarcely noticed her clothing. And Mondo’s short shorts are a bridge too far. I didn’t want to go there. Ever.

  • Bethany Fairbrother

Not only does Anya have no right to be on the panel, she has no right to criticize people.  You were generous in your judging.  Her outfit looks like it’s part of her collection, i.e. totally  un-tailored and poorly sewn.

  • Pupioso

    The shoes were the worst!

  • I love Nina’s shoes!

  • swissgirl

Anya’s so-called hairstyle is so horrible! She’s such a pretty woman and that half-shaved-head look is so distracting. Imagine how awesome she’d be if she’d let (half) her hair grow! Truly, it’s just such a stupid style IMO.

    • OmegaMu

Or, imagine how awesome she ‘d look if she just shaved it all off?  She’s gorgeous, but that half hair is ridiculous!

    • mightbewrong

Ha, I agree– she can do what she likes, but if you can actually pull off a shaved head, why not go all the way?

      • bitchybitchybitchy

I agree-Anya is one of those women who could do the shaved head and look stunning.

    • Yes, but if it’s distracting one from her unqualified opinionizing I’d consider that a plus.

  • jilly_d

Re: Nina’s top – oof. Just, no.

  • StellaZafella

I get it…its the HP digital challenge so, of course, Heidi’s wearing a close-up shot of Mondo’s right thigh.

    • aeg66

      Thunderous applause!!!!

    • Kim_W60

      Love it!

    • formerlyAnon

      StellaZafella wins the comment section.

  • MissMariRose

Looking at that outfit, I feel only sympathy for Nina. I usually dress like that when I feel cramped and bloated.

  • VRuss

Not killing you here… They all missed the mark this week.

Did anyone found it hard to take criticism from Anya? I soooo wanted to go inside my TV and bitch-slap her for her comments… Pot, meet kettle…

    • Derek_anny

At the very least, she could have given detailed critiques of the prints.

  • Nina, luv ya sweetie, but just say No to Stella.

  • You gotta work with what you’ve got, TLo.  Just go ahead and give the win to The Dutchess.

  • Artesian_Belle

All I could think of when I saw Heidi’s dress was St. John the Baptist in his hair shirt.

  • Let’s face it, though — Mondo’s got great legs.

    • Derek_anny

It seems most people disagree.  It was a big night for thighs, between Mondo and Gunnar.

  • Artesian_Belle

All I could think of when I saw Heidi’s dress is medieval paintings of St. John the Baptist in his hair shirt.

  • Miss_Led

No Tim? He was there for an instant.

I would have loved it if Nina had crossed her arms, done an “I Dream of Jeannie” head bob, and Tim had appeared.

    •  I tried saying “can we get Tim Gunn over here?” out loud, but alas it did not have the same results as it did for Heidi.

    • fashionablylate

Tim looked fabulous, I’m loving his color combos this season!   5/5   🙂

  • l_c_ann

Anya, of the mysterious expanding right busom, she scares me.  Not only has she discovered a Thai equivalent of brass nuckles, she has adopted a grin that belongs in a Tim Burton Cartoon.  That fabric she’s wearing …with sort of epaulettes at the shoulders…..makes no sense.

This week, our lovely uncles have earned a mulligan possibly because they are still tired.

  • Heidi looks like she is stood behind a motor bike that spun out in the mud. Clearly tire splatter ALL OVER that frock!

  •  that ring made me go “hey, she’s got a Mockingjay pin!”

    • 3boysful

EXACTLY!  I can’t believe I wasn’t the only one to see that!

  • OmegaMu

You have no comment on the first dress Heidi wore?  Yikes!

  • nannypoo

I hate Anya’s hair with a burning passion from hell. Mondo’s little costumes are alway pretty silly, but he’s so cute and lovable that I can always forgive him.

  • PastryGoddess

OMFG! NO NO NO.  Anya wins over Nina.  I demand a recount, there must have been a russian judge in there somewhere.

    • VRuss

      Or Hell has frozen over.

    • formerlyAnon

I LIKED what Nina wore (on her) and I still have to agree with the Anya win.

  • j_anson

It’s not that I hate any of the pieces individually (well, I do hate the ring) but that is too damn much jewelry for one outfit on Anya.

    • kimmeister

      That ring is friggin ENORMOUS.

      • dress_up_doll

By ENORMOUS do you mean a hideous monstrosity? I don’t mind her “personal style” but the ring is ridiculous.

    • formerlyAnon

I like her oyster shell(??) cuff best of all her jewelry but I didn’t think the ring & necklace worked well with it. Taken as a group, though, I thought the jewelry worked.

  • Nina bored me.

  • Girl_With_a_Pearl

Anya is not allowed to win any kind of contest ever again!

  • Violina23

I just find the half-shaven head thing to just be SOOO thoroughly unattractive. It doesn’t help that I involuntarily roll my eyes every time Anya says ANYTHING remotely critical of a competitor in the competition she essentially coasted through despite any technical skills. I have nothing against her personal style, but I can’t help but scrunch my nose up at her.

Nina’s outfit just looks lost and confused…

  • Let it never be said that you gentlemen are not fair and honest — to not edit those scores after seeing the winner?  That’s integrity.

And what would possess Nina to wear Stella McCartney?  It’s like she wanted to see who the bitter kittens truly hate more: Anya or SMC…

  • Call me Bee

I always thought Anya was a gorgeous woman with excellent personal style (save for that hairdo.  Ugh–I just want to take a razor to the long side….grrrrr….) She just has no talent for making clothes for others, that’s all….
Anyway–yes–Heidi’s dress is awful.  What happened to her boobs?  She was a Victoria’s Secret model, after all, and here, her chest is non-existant!  Weird.
I liked Nina’s shirt, but I like her shoes.  For once, they look as though she could actually walk in them!
Mondo’ little shorts are way too….they make my eyes twitch.

  • enchanted216

    Oh, I like Nina’s shoes:)

    • formerlyAnon

      Me too. A lot.

  • aeg66

I adore Mondo but those hairy thighs stood out like crazy on the screen. Its the first time my new HD tv with the new sensoring ( you can the lushness of fabrics…drool)  has been a con.

  • dorothea_brooke

Anya is beautiful woman.  Why would she do that to her head?  Why?
As for Nina, let us never speak of this again.  (Shudder.)

  • Have you guys ever thought about adding in Heidi’s first look from when she introduces the challenge on the runway at the beginning of each episode? I would have loved to hear your take on this one’s ridiculous leather bandeau dress!

  • Hot pants?  On Mondo?  Whilst sitting?  Damn my eyes, now I can’t un-see it!  Love you Mondo but short shorts on men?  Thanks but NO.

  • jw_ny

Anya deserves the win this time tho…lol!  I’m surprised at how her look all works so well seeing as how she’s got a wild print pant, big cuff, big ring, big necklace, dangly earrings, shaved side head, etc….it’s a lot going on, yet somehow it works imo. She looks great. (added pretty much zip to critiques but…)

I’m ok with Mondo wearing shorts with a suit…but those shorts are way too short.

wtf was Nina thinking…that top IS kindergarten teacher.  smh  & lol at Heidi’s Chewbacca dress.

  • I always feel Anya would look so much better with a full head of hair or just plain bald.

    • boweryboy

Bald.  If you cover up half of the 2nd photo you can see what she looks like bald and with hair.  She is much more striking bald.

      • formerlyAnon

Yup. And that’s why she wears that hairstyle. Because she’s not ready to go to the public persona that [many] people would expect were she bald. She wants to read more girly than edgy in the final accounting.

  • CPK1

Anya looks cute and like Anya (although her hair is kind of freaking me out with it’s imbalance). Heidi is horrendous. Worst ever. I didn’t care for the black dress with the leather bodice she wore at the top of the show either. And Nina, HOW COULD YOU??? Stella McCartney???!!  That’s a pretty scraggly looking judging panel. The Duchess reigns supreme!

  • LesYeuxHiboux

I actually liked Heidi’s hairy dress (though I didn’t love it). The soft color made her face look very pretty and soft, rather than harsh next to a black or busy animal-print. The length and neckline were demure while the silhouette was sexy. I also appreciate that she has a sense of humor about her clothes (though apparently not when it comes to how tight they are). She made me laugh.

I like Nina’s shoes, but I am a considerably younger woman who came up with the 20-pound clunkers of the late-nineties. I’d wear them, but I expect her to be more fab than I am. Agreed that Mondo is showing too much leg, but I like the tie/shirt combo with that pale blue blazer to tone it down a bit.

Anya is wearing too many accessories, and looks to be one A/C gust away from flashing the designers.

  • Anya’s hair looked fine all of season 9 but now it looks awkward because there is just too much volume on half of her head from the styling.

Go back to the ponytail pouf, girl. And dye your hair black again. With your skin tone and that hair color, you look like a tree trunk.

  • greyhoundgirl

Heidi:  Pubic hair.  Anya:  Love the sea shell bracelet.  Mondo:  I love you. I don’t want to see your hairy thighs.  Nina:  I taught 2 and 3 year olds for 30 years–yes, this top is something they would love.  I used to wear stuff like this (but much much less expensive).

  • mbelchic

Does no one but me see it?  Her hair is STUPID-

  • OMG, I couldn’t pinpoint what I didn’t like about Heidi’s dress, and now that you said “hairy,” I can’t get that image out of my head.

I know it’s her “thing,” but I’m really over Anya’s hair.

I love Mondo, and he looks adorable but… um, that’s a little too much leg hair for me.

And la Nina’s whole outfit is a big MISS. Hate the shirt, the pants, and the shoes – there’s nothing redeeming about it.

As much as I hate to admit it, Anya does win this round.

  • I do like Nina’s shoes, but they are so not pants shoes! Those are dress/skirt/maybe a chic little pair of shorts shoes!

  • Linderella

I was appalled by what Nina was wearing–head to toe disaster.  And in the immortal words of Herself:  it didn’t photograph well.

    • Susan Crawford

Yes, Linderella! Nina would definitely say it was “not editorial”. An intarsia sweater with cute little typeface letters? Big clunky wide pants? Orthopedic-looking sandals (although they DO look comfy)? I think I’ve seen this outfit on QVC!

  • guest2visits

Aww; I liked Heidi’s dress.. didn’t see hair until you said it.  And I didn’t mind Nina’s outfit either; the shoes worked with the pants.
Thought Mondo was typical Mondo.  And Anya was typical Anya; cheap tropical vacay.

  • I’d give Mondo the win – he’s got legs and he knows how to use them!

  • msdamselfly

When will Nina do something attractive to that hair of hers ?

  • Nina is worse than Anya? I don’t think so. Anya needs to stop with the hair. It used to look cute and funky and now it looks calculated and overthought. And bad. An entire half of her head is shaved. From the side she has a mullet.
And I also found Mondo’s legs jarring. I love him and all that he is but I do not want to see anyone’s unshaven thighs under those lights.
Nina might not be wearing my favorite look of hers – or my favorite shoes – but at least she isn’t making some kind of a statement with her body hair.

    • Girl_With_a_Pearl

Maybe hair was the secret theme for last night’s show:  half bald/half hair, hairy thighs, hairy dress.

  • blondie65

Well, Anya only won b/c the Duchess was not considered.  This is the one time he would have taken it!

  • SewingSiren

I like the hair dress on Heidi. It is actually one of my favorite looks for her. Form fitting yet modest. And a little edgy too.
I don’t particularly like Anya’s look. The jumpsuit looks JCP and the jewelry looks like it came from a Wave shop at Myrtle Beach.
    She’s still pretty though.
Mondo =- Cute. Much cuter than that look he wore to the Lord and Taylor party.
    Nina- Pre-school teacher.
    Winner. Heidi

  • mom2ab

Anya appears to be wearing one of her own designs, interesting fabric draped over her body and held together with a belt and some pins at the shoulder.

  • quiltrx

Oh Nina, who talked you into this SM shit???

And Anya..seriously, you guys?  No sleeves, no zippers…yup, it’s an Anya outfit alright.  Blech.

  • formerlyAnon

The right judge won. I felt exactly the same way about Anya’s outfit, right down to my quibble with the top.

BUT I have a TON of quibbles beyond that.

    1) Is picking an ugly print in an ugly color and making it the sole feature of your ensemble really worth a 3 point deduction? I’d have left Ms. Klum with 2.5/5

    2) I can’t see taking 1.5 off of an otherwise good ensemble just because we’re seeing hairy guy leg and not smooth German model leg. We *may* not have seen that much Klum thigh (I’m not so sure) but only because she’s never worn shorts. I’d have given him 3.75.

    3) Sorry, but I LOVE Nina’s shoes. Full stop. This is not a great shot of them because you can’t really see the shape of the heel, but I think they’re way cute chunky heeled platform sandals. I don’t mind her McCartney shirt and I *like* wide-legged pants so I might like those if I could see how they really look on her. She is a SOLID 4/5 in my book.

But, the right judge won.  I cannot lie.

  • formerlyAnon

Gotta add: It’s panels like this which really point up the wisdom of the Kors Uniform.

  • Lilithcat

I thought your only comment about Anya’s would be, “Of course.”

  • Citric

I like how Nina wore a shirt that says HP on it for the HP challenge inspired by HP and HP and Intel with HP touchsmart HPs inspired by Intel and HP notebooks that HP made inspired by HP. HP!

  • DeTrop

I cannot stand looking at Anya with that hair style.  She is a pretty woman and I just don’t get it.  Most of us give more attention to our hair than any other part of our anatomy.  Having a ‘bad hair day’ is not just an expression.  It can make or break an outfit.  I feel ill when I look at her head.  Mondo is a little too precious for me anymore.  Who wants to see much less sit next to someone showing hairy legs.  Phooey!  The Dutchess for the win.

    • Derek_anny

++Who wants to see much less sit next to someone showing hairy legs.++
If they’re nice legs, I would.  Mondo’s are inoffensive.  (As were Gunnar’s, tbh)

  • I think Nina’s decision to wear Stella McCartney was an obvious attempt to ensure Anya’s win on this week’s Judging the Judges post. I mean, this is clearly an attempt at self-sabotage, as is confirmed by those awful shoes.  I suggest you revise that score to something lower, as her general appearance is of one wearing pajamas.

  • elzatelzabelz

Mondo wins by default b/c we aren’t looking at the bottom half. Mostly b/c I still think Mondo is amazing and was ROBBED.

  • Sweetvegan

Anya did look fantastic. Wonder if she was wearing one of her own designs.

  • Susan Crawford

Heidi’s dress was probably the most unflattering thing she has ever worn, IMHO. Ooof-da – NOT even ONE point from me for that travesty. Tight shiny and short is looking good next to tight, hairy and long.

Anya? Well, of course she did.

Nina? Aside from the little homage to HP . . . what was she THINKING? She looked fine, because she is Nina, but this outfit is definitely a giant step down for the normally impeccable editorial looks she has rocked this season. (Stella McCartney strikes again. Gaaaah!)

Mondo? Someone, please: tell him that nobody is turned on in the least by the sight of little hairy legs emerging from what appears to be one of PeeWee Herman’s old suits with hot pants. In powder blue, no less. I mean NO. BODY. WANTS. TO. SEE. THAT.

OTOH, St. Tim of Gunn looked fabulous, especially when he was called in for a bit of clarification regarding Ven’s rose-o-gami vortex dress. He should be included in the weekly judging, but then again, how do we dare to judge this man?

Michael Kors looked all kinds of sane this week compared to the sheer cray-cray that surrounded him.

  • rainwood1

Nina wins because everyone else looked hideous, especially Anya. That hair just makes me wince every time.  And the dress ain’t nothing to write home about either.  Must be one of her designs.

  • EdgarAllenPwn

sorry, but nina’s shoes are definitely awesome, i want

  • lrhoff

What’s with the half-shaved head for Anya?  Please.  This show is going downhill so fast it’s breathtaking.  How uninspiring.  Heidi, go write a book or something and get out from in front of the camera.

  • lrhoff

BTW:  Nina looks absolutely wonderful in comparison to the others on the “panel”.  After all, why not wear a school shirt when sitting amongst children?

  • marilyn

Anya’s hair is meant to make people notice her.  This is unnecesary because she is a beautiful woman.  Why does she do the half-shaved-head thing?  Too bad.

  • girl crow

My partner speculated that Heidi must have had to wiggle through a sewer pipe in a white dress, for some unfathomable reason…

  • girl crow

Nina’s shoes are the only part of her outfit that I DO like!

  • EverybodysStarling

Anya’s blouse has to be one of the ugliest things ever. Her left boob looks like it got lost. Where is it, anyway?

  • Hammer pants were the other way, full on the top, tapered at the bottom. I actually don’t hate Nina’s outfit, but I would have given the win to Mondo. I kind of adore his tiny shorts outfit.
Anya’s outfit is stupid. How can Nina’s giant pants be bad, and Anya’s giant pants not be?

  • crash1212

Funny, the thing I loved most about Nina’s look (besides her beautiful hair – which is always a 5/5) was the shoes! I love them. Also, Mondo is quite hairy…who knew?

  • rorschach1992

Heidi’s dress is quite sad, 2/5

Nina wasn’t kidding when she told you guys her choice of judgewear would get worse later in the season. 3/5 is incredibly kind  I hate this, from top to toe, she looks so disheveled as opposed to normally she looks put together. 1/5

Anya looks great, the jewelry is terrific, the pants are nice, love that print. I sort of just wish the top was sleeker and more fitted to go with the loose flowy pants but overall great. She does have a nice personal style. 4.5/5

I never liked Mondo’s shorts in the past and still don’t. Every time I see him wearing a smart outfit “north of the waist” I then see he’s wearing shorts that are almost non-existent, which completely ruins whatever he’s wearing, just my own personal opinion. I do like the blazer though so a point for that. 2/5

  • ccm800

So when I saw Nina I thought OMG THAT is the worst she ever look WTH is she wearing? And now I know. Stella. Figures. Anya is going a little too high in the shaving there – she is starting to look like one o those girl on one side man on the other vaudeville acts.

  • Rebecca Jay

Even with that….. hair, Anya wins.  Everyone else is just ridiculous.  Except Mondo, who flew so far beyond ridick I don’t even know a word for it.

    • Derek_anny

Silly.  Of the old British fashion.  Carries connotations of mental inadequacies.

  • Bozhi

Sorry guys, I cannot agree with you.  I am so sick of Anya’s same old style and that horrible hair.  I do agree with you on Mondo, Heidi and Nina.  What happened to Nina?

Kors was this week’s winner, by far.

  • unbornfawn

I just don’t “see” Anya as having shaved half of her hair off, for some reason when I look at her I just see bald. Even Nina can’t make a Stella McCartney work.

  • Here’s one for the group: if guy’s start wearing short shorts, shouldn’t they also start shaving their legs?

    • Derek_anny

  • Anya’s print is awful, no like! Also she got almost no camera time, probably because she couldn’t give a decent critique. If you are not captivated by her “beauty” then you realize she’s a talentless hanger-on which devalues our beloved show and plays in to the prevailing notion that fashion is just for a bunch of air-headed beauty whores. Thanks for that Anya!

  • mhleta

I’ve read a full page of comments and not one person is shrieking about how EPICALLY AWFUL THAT DRESS OF HEIDI’S IS!! Is no one else as outraged as I? It’s beyond horrifying, not the least because it looks like pubic hair run amok up the front of her body. It’s beyond dreadful! Who is responsible for designing this travesty? I would take points away from past weeks for this dress. This is a deficit dress. A pubic-hair-run-amok-deficit-dress. I want to take a gigantic wax strip to it. Ugh. Really. Just…UGH!!!

    • Oh, no, definitely not just you.  That dress is terrible, and that’s *exactly* what it looks like!

  • oh oh wow that is a lot of skinny hairy man leg.  he looks like an elementary prep school student.

  • GorgeousThings

I won’t kill you for it, but I certainly won’t agree with it. I think Mondo wins.

  • DinaSews

TLo – How is Nina’s cumulative score a 3.34 when she has only been rated under a 4 once in 9 judging panels?

  • I think Kors wins!  For Anya, it goes beyond not liking her for me. I really truly don’t like what she has on – it just looks like all of her own boring designs.  Mondo looks like he decided to go dressy on the upper half, and then head to the beach on the bottom half.  Heidi’s dress looks like a giant “treasure trail”.  And Nina – oh, Garcia, Garcia – wha’ happened?  Far too baggy, the print is awful – I just can’t. And that’s a first.

So the winner this week?  The Braying Orange!  Michael Kors, step forward and claim your prize!

  • Catiline

I hated Anya’s win and hearing her “three dresses in one” critique of one of the designers made me want to throw holy water at the television screen.

… but she did look great.  Can’t argue with you on that.

  • I’ve read this website every day for at least five years, and this is the first time I’m commenting.  I felt like I had to give you guys big snaps up, because I think this is the funniest post you’ve ever made.  Bravo, you two.  You keep getting better.

  • ALL the judges’ outfits were bad. AWFUL. Anya’s outfit is typical Anya. And I’m sorry, the print on the pants is ugly, looks like a tribal table cloth. And I’m so tired of that hair.

  • bellesprit

Well, I’m certainly not going to divorce my favorite bloggers over this; but I so hate Anya’s look. Maybe it’s just that I can’t stand Anya. Yes. That could be clouding my judgement. Anyway, I agree that the print on the pants is wonderful. But. . .just shut up, Anya, and go away. I hate that she beat Nina but sadly agree that beloved Nina just didn’t bring it this week.

  • MaryAtRealityTea

Well, it’s nice to see Anya STILL CAN’T FIGURE OUT A SLEEVE. In other news – I think they made Nina dress badly on purpose not to upstage Anya and further reinforce that they weren’t on a crack binge when they voted her the winner. And Heidi needs help. That dress looks like a zoom-in of my cat’s fur.

    • l_c_ann

Not really cats’ fur.  More like South American Ground Sloth, the slow moving ones that have moss growing in their fur. That’s the color inspiration for wookie Heidi

  • tereliz

No wonder Nina said she didn’t think you’d like her upcoming looks. Stelllaaa!!! 😉

  • fringebenefit

If Mondo went naked but for a fig leaf, I would find his look more palatable than the hideous shorts he sports. Very few people on the planet can rock shorts and Mondo is definitely not one of them. They are wildly, painfully, dramatically unbecoming. Please don’t persist in this bizarre predilection, dear Mondo. You are so wonderful in every other way!

  • bitchybitchybitchy

It’s OK about Anya’s win this week-let’s just blame it all on Stella McCartney’s reps forcing Nina into that lamentable top.
We won’t speak about Heidi’s dress.

  • turtleemily

Hairy, flat-chested, and much thicker than she actually is. I’m wondering if a thick belt could save it somewhat. And a different color scheme.

    I really want Mondo’s shoes.

  • My faith in fashion is a little shaken, boys.

  • I really can’t believe you like Anya’s pants. I had a horse blanket made from that. She only won because you never saw it.

  • I don’t mind agreeing that she looked great last night, but I have to confess I have so little respect for her as a designer that every time she opened her mouth for a critique I wanted to yell “WHAT THE HELL DO YOU KNOW ABOUT DESIGN/CONSTRUCTION, ANYA?” I actually did yell once or twice, I think. Heh.

  • Beth G

Call me prissy, but if you’re going to show that much leg, you need those legs to be shaved.  I don’t care WHAT gender you are.

    • Shawn EH

You sound like my grandma, who always wanted me to shave under my arms. Dudes deserve SOME of our exemptions!

  • lilibetp

Oy, Mondo.  You just don’t have the legs, dear.

  • Anya is the least deserving PR winner ever, and that they let her be a judge just set my teeth on edge. As someone else commented above, the producers are trying so hard to make her “happen”, but it’s NOT happening. She even had a sex tape and she’s STILL not happening.

  • Shawn EH

Nina was handicapped by Miss McCartney, as so many strong ladies have been. Anya just rates an “of course” with me. I forgive you, but I give the win to Mondo, despite the crazy pants!

  • Olive Tree

You know, I wonder what they would have said if the designers had sent Heidi’s dress and Nina’s look (especially with the skirt) down the runway.

  • Mean Girls is appropriate here:

“Stop trying to make Anya happen! IT’S NOT GOING TO HAPPEN!”

UGH. Is all I have to say about ALL of these horrible looks.

  • malvernite

i like mondo’s hairy legs. hairless men are look weird to me. anya’s hairstyle is old fashioned now, she could do with something new. then again nina’s hair has been like that since genesis.

  • You nailed it with Heidi’s hairy unflattering dress.  What was that?! Mondo’s short shorts made him look like weird Cousin Fred who forgot to put pants on for Thanksgiving dinner. Anya looked okay, Nina was a little suburban.  If you just looked at the screen it felt strange that these folks were judging fashion.

  • librarygrrl64

Sorry, but Anya’s hair looks ridiculous. Too much contrast between shaved and extensions. It looks like a severe sideways mullet. No bueno.

  • altermyego

I would love to see a picture and critique of what Heidi was wearing at the beginning of the show. The black dress with a leather bodice. Any chance her opening of the show outfits will become a part of these Judging the Judges posts?

  • oohsparkley!

I also think Tlo over-scored Nina.  In my book that look only deserves a 1.5 for being boring, unflattering and unfashionable. Anya is stylish, but her hair bugs me. I mean the 1/2 shaved head, the other half looks like beautiful hair. It might be edgy/cool, I just don’t like it.  Shaved heads remind me of Concentration camps or cancer (unless you’re a hot dude).

  • boomchicabowwow

You guys have been scoring Heidi way to high.  I call it now.  If this show is still on the air 3 years from now, there WILL be a contestant who throws Heidi’s “taste level” back in her face.  I imagine something on the order of:
Heidi: “I would NEVER wear that!  It’s so sad!”
Contestant:”Well, I don’t design for over-the-hill models in denial, so the fact that you don’t like something that isn’t a sparkling bath towel (trademark-TLo) or the fact that you have no respect for a garment that can be worn both WITH undergarments and WITHOUT double sided tape is “criticism” that I choose to interperet as high praise indeed.”

  • sarah_m_g

haha, I have the Sam Edelman flats that Mondo is wearing.  I’m almost positive it’s the same shoe!

  • rjeujune

How someone who never did anything but ponchos and muumuus can sit there and DARE to criticize other people’s designs, I don’t know. Can’t stand her, can’t stand her, can’t stand her.

  • jaynor

I typed ‘Heidi’s hairy chest’ into the search engine because I felt that, as soon as I saw her dress on this show and I came up with this blog and comments.. lol.      It was a horrible fashion faux pas.   Not normal for Heidi to make such a huge mistake.  I would think she would tear a designer’s dress apart if she actually saw this coming down the runway, so it’s hard to understand her choice. Let’s hope we don’t see it again………
