  • Wow. I’m actually kind of impressed. The yellow lipstick is scaring me, though.

    • Exactly!  She’s got some really interesting pieces – far better than I anticipated, but I think all that is lost on her cracked out styling. 😛

      • She discovered color and went a little overboard. The styling on all three collections ranges from bad to hiddy.

      •  I don’t like the styling in any of them….Ick

        • siriuslover

I agree. It seems that there’s an incongruity between the styling and the clothes. Why heavy brows? What is the conceptual purpose? Why yellow and green lipstick? Again, what does it mean conceptually? I’m actually beginning to think that MK is on to something when he complains about styling to the contestants. Part of their job is to tell a story through their clothes, otherwise it looks weird and / or silly.

    • ChiliP

I can’t believe I’m about to say this, but looking at the collections thus far, Elena’s is my favorite. The lipstick was a mistake, and I’m not entirely sold on the tights in every shot, but overall hers looks the most like an actual collection. There are some really great pieces here.

      • I agree. Now that I’ve seen them all, Elena’s is the one that is the most memorable and cohesive. Ugh, I hate myself a little for liking her stuff.

        • annieanne

I have to grit my teeth every time I think it, but she really did an excellent job. It looks like a collection and – minus the lipstick — looks ‘editorial’ as well.

      • I LOVE the tights!!

      • CozyCat

After looking at all of them, Elena’s is by far the best.

      • Yup. Agreed. I haven’t been watching the show (except for 1/2 an episode that I caught while making dinner, in which the ‘older lady’ and ‘weird Japanese guy’ character types both fled the show), so perhaps I have a more objective take on the situation since I have no idea who any of these people are. But yes, this is the most cohesive and interesting of all of these.

        • notterriblybitter

I haven’t watched this season either. Now I realize how much my opinion of the designs was affected by my opinion of the designer’s personality. It’s nice to be able to like her collection without any “buts”.  I’m going to watch the final episode and will probably enjoy it more than I have for years because it’ll be all about the clothes.

        • holdmewhileimnaked

the older lady & weird japanese guy were the most interesting contestants they had this season. after they left there were only dmitry & sonjia, really, although melissa &, occasionally, elena could pull out some decent work. ven fizzled, i believe, during his fury, but he was pretty much both fat- & flower-fixated anyway. then again i havent watched or read anything about any of this in a couple of weeks, nor have i yet looked at the other finals so i dont know if any of them have a lot of, you know, whatever stuff used to have on this program which it lost over seasons eight & nine. still it’s fixed anyway so, you know, energy is often better allotted elsewhere.

      • SouthernGirlRena

This seems like a safe place to confess Elena’s was my favorite too.  And I kind of hate Dmitry’s collection.  I am very disappointed.  There may be group counseling in my future 🙁

        • leighne

Exactly.  I keep looking at Dmitry’s trying to find things that I love about it and looking at Elena’s trying to find reasons to not like it.  I can’t find anything.  I think Elena’s collection is surprisingly commercial, I would wear so many of these pieces.

        • Lisa_Cop

I have liked Dmitry’s challenge looks. But what I see here is non-descript and some looks very tacky. I liked alot of Elena’s looks but hate the lipstick and too much with the tights.

        • DCSheehan

I’ll need to join that group. Love Elena’s collection. Hate myself for loving it.

          • SouthernGirlRena

I’ll save you a seat and a nice cup of chamomile tea ~ or wine ~ your choice.

          • SouthernGirlRena

I’ll save you a seat and a nice cup of Chamomile tea – or wine – your choice.
PS: I posted this earlier and have no idea where Disqus decided to put it so sorry if this shows up twice at some point.

          • DCSheehan

It’s okay, I’ll need at least two wines to recover from loving something that Elena has done.

    • I had to scroll down and hide the models’ faces so I could focus on the clothing.  It looks like they kissed Tweety Bird with glue on their lips.

      • JulieTy

I did the same thing. Yikes.

    • Elena’s last look (and its white and gray counterpart) is surprisingly interesting.

    • Sing4yursupper

Elena’s lipstick choices were scary and distracted me so much, I couldn’t look at the collection.

  • Frank_821

ooh some of Christopher’s pieces look nice. No real surprises from Elena or Dmitry. Although nice to see pants and separates from.

Some of those models look very severe

    • YoungSally

Why do all of Dmitry’s models seem to have vulcan ears?  Did he and Elena make up?

    • CozyCat

Some of Dmitry’s looks definitely show his ballroom dance background.

  • The styling in each and every one of these collections is atrocious. Seriously, Dmitry, WTF is up with the eyebrows? And Elena, the neon lipstick is so bad it’s distracting.

    • I can’t get over how much Dmitri’s second model (yellow dress, black sleeves) looks like Elrond.

      •  Hahaha, you’re spot on!

    • BuffaloBarbara

Eyebrows, nothing–why do they have Vulcan ears?

    • Miranda Prince

*Thank you*. I was thinking the same thing.

  • Elaine Lang

That second look of Christophers?   The gown?

Also, as a rather heavily browed women, dare I hope that the plucked chicken look is finally easing off?   The yellow lips are hiddy, but I’m done with the hairlessness fad.

    •  I like Christopher’s gown, but I’ve seen it before. Lots of times. And for YEARS.

      •  Pretty sure Christian Siriano already made that dress 50 times, years ago. That’s the thing that bothers me about Christopher’s collection, every single look can be traced back to more memorable pieces by other PR contestants.

        • bitchybitchybitchy

Elena’s collection for me shows more thought and cohesion than most of the other collections, but I don’t see much real creativity from any of these people.

          • Verascity

Agreed — scrolling through Elena’s, I thought, “nice, but kind of dated and rehashed at this point.”

      • holdmewhileimnaked

thats what i thought too. nice dress, i wanted to say that, but so derivative that i couldnt. & it’s been echoed pretty most strenuously, not to mention continuously, over the last three, five years. it’s a recent rip-off, as the kids once said, long ago, in the pleistocene era, somewhere before even the tar pits existed. i think.

    • emily mcginnis

agree with the first part. at least from the picture, that dress is gorgeous!

    • Ha! Your comment about the “plucked chicken look” reminded me of a woman I used to work with who had had electrolysis done on her brows in the mid-90s, when what I called the “sperm shape” was in vogue – squarish towards the bridge of the nose, with a long thin tail towards the outer face.

  • alyce1213

Elena’s collection just blew my mind.

    • Spicytomato1

      I reluctantly concur.

      • leighne

Same. I’ve never been so disappointed to like a collection so much.

        • Aarjullor

That’s exactly my reaction! lol I can’t stand her, why oh why must her collection be the best!?! The rest are just awful, every one of them.

          • I know, this is killing me.

          • khh1138

Exactly, what is going on, how is this possible?  Maybe if Elena is locked up in the woods in a cabin somewhere and doesn’t have to talk to anyone, she can actually produce nice things.
Not exactly a viable business model – and she’s no Thoreau.

    • Celandine1

It’s like a TLo comment from the Lord & Taylor challenge episode, her collection ACTUALLY shows design.

  • I like Christopher’s second dress.

  • janierainie

Elena’s is really interesting, and much more feminine than I expected.

    • kimmeister

Not a single exaggeratedly huge jacket in sight!

    • kimmeister

Not a single exaggeratedly huge jacket in sight!

  • Frank_821

forgot to mention that chartreuse jacket and skirt combo of Elena’s is actually very cute and surprisingly commercial

    • Elaine Lang

I might be on board with this statement if the jacket got another 5-6 inches added to the bottom for retail.  (ETA: OK, on second look…3 or 4 inches would do. Just no bare midriffs, please.

    •  Agree! That jacket really caught my eye. It’s something you could do in lots of different color combinations too. I do think the makeup detracts but I’m otherwise impressed at how her outfits are fully realized from head to toe.

  • NDC_IPCentral

Hmmmmmm.  Some of Christopher is expected, but there is a lot of torso showing in that sheer top.  I agree with T & L’s tweet about Dimitry’s fabric choices (unfortunate).  Elena’s is unexpected, but I’m not resonating with it.  The gray on gray and white on gray seem vaguely skeleton-ish or anatomical, not in a pleasing way.

  • The only place Elena’s collection belongs is on Cirque de Soleil performers.

  • The only place Elena’s collection belongs is on Cirque de Soleil performers.

    • Kimbolina

The boxy jackets are also very elementary school art teacher.

Actually, in general her collection reminds me of stuff you’d find in an art museum gift shop.

  • pattyw

As someone who “watches” PR strictly via these recaps, I’d toss my vote to Elena. Cohesive collection and vision, and seemingly considerable design and execution skills. The other stuff looks poorly made and borderline tacky.

    • Spicytomato1

Yes. And as much as people are hating the yellow lipstick, it’s most certainly memorable. And therefore kind of genius.

  • JMansm

I LOVE ELENA’S SO MUCH. That lipstick is fierce.

  • A. W.

Elena’s garments are all kinds of crazy and cool, but that horrible yellow lipstick just distracts. I love wacky makeup as much as the next girl, but it makes it impossible to focus on the damn clothes.

    • TVKimmy

I’m surprisingly loving her collection, but I have to cover their heads to see it. That lipstick is horrid.

  • Abby Davis

I want all of Elena’s collection! I love the styling, minus the lipstick.

  • Elena’s are really interesting, I like that she got away from the HUGE SHOULDER thing that was like her only vision early on in the competition.  And I love Christophers’ gown, like LOVE LOVE.

    • Spicytomato1

Yes, I guess it proves that she is able to take criticism and evolve from one-way monkey status. Who’d a thunk it?

  • TSkot

All three of these look great, but Elena FTW

  • V V

Elena is serving up some updated Jay McCarroll realness.

    • bitchybitchybitchy

I don’t think I’d go that far, but she did send a cohesive and thoughtful collection down the runway.

  • Chris’ collection is surprising; the dress and shirt with the prints look like they’re pulled straight out of Helmut Lang’s handbook.  This was not the direction I expected from him.

  • I like Elena’s (Dammit) but man, the styling is sucktastic for both hers & Dimitry’s.

  • QuincyTKatz

    Christopher FTW

  • EverybodysStarling

I can’t believe I’m writing that, but I love the colors on Elena’s. Right up my alley – but except that one coat nothing looks anything like she produces on the show – which for me is a big plus.

  • lessax3

I like Elena’s. I wouldn’t have thought I would have. I can’t get past Dimitry styling his models as if they were walking onto a Star Trek film as Romulan extras.

    • Sara Leiste

       Elena provided the aliens.

  • Serious Duckface.

    • Agreed. That lipstick gives new meaning to “duckface.”

  • idk guys but i think that these 3 collections are the only ones that actually looks like “collections”

  • I dig Elena’s but that yellow and green lipstick is fuuug. Dmitry and Christopher both have really boring collections.
Sidenote: I half-pick who I’m rooting for in the end by a combination of their finale collection at this point and their personality/work through the season (Sometimes this doesn’t work, mostly because of judgecrack: Jay Sario, Mondo during his season, Viktor, etc). Elena may be a crazy bitch, but she’s gone quite up a few points in my esteem.
ETA: Elena’s reminds me a bit of Ben Chmura’s finale collection.

  • BigWhiteGrannyPanties

why are the models all so damn ugly?  is this a new fashion thing or something?  Giant eyebrows, giant ears, yellow lips… sheeesh.

  • piecesofconfetti

Very harsh styling. Are women not allowed to just look pretty anymore?

    • Spicytomato1

      Apparently not.

  • alyce1213

It’s astounding what they can do given enough time. Just proves how crummy B-M/Lifetime are to cut the regular competition time down to nothing — the work and thus, the show, really suffer.

    • I was watching Season 3 the other day and for a lot of their challenges, they were given 2 days. And you know what? They were making clothing that was not only more well made, but more interesting and fun to look at. The time constraints really hurt this season.

  • MilaXX

Christopher’s is okay.  Dmitry’s is bad. Elena’s has a nice color story and feels more fashion-y

  • imspinningaround

Pleasantly surprised by Elena’s looks, even if it does borrow very heavily from JPG’s work in The Fifth Element.  I would happily wear that geometric aqua and gray zip-front coat.

  • Stubenville

Well now we know why Boris Badanov hasn’t been making pants (but that first dress is gorgeous.)

  • Stubenville

  • Eva_baby

Why do all of Dmitry’s models look like Romulans?

  • StelledelMare

Out of all of the collections, I honestly think I like Elena’s best. I like her color story and it’s all very cohesive. The styling is super weird but I just find myself coming back to look at hers moreso than any of the others.

  • Mauricio González del Castillo

The Duckface lipstick is so distracting!

  • Laylalola

I didn’t realize Christopher is Costello-lite in terms of his runway designs, too. I hadn’t noticed it during the weekly shows.

  • Jasmaree

I actually really like all three of these. Especially Dmitry and Elena.

  • bluefish

Elena = Hat tip to Paco Rabanne and Courreges.  Am hoping that Dmitri’s stuff will look better in movement — dismaying.  The styling feels so so so — what’s the word I’m looking for?  Insecure!

  • Dmitry’s tribal print, black and white halter dress is TOTAL Dancing with the Stars.

    • It reminds me of his candy challenge dress unless I’m remembering that wrong and it IS totally DWTS!

  • SewingSiren

I wasn’t looking forward to seeing a “Christopher” collection. This is what I expected . Nothing new or exciting or even anything that distinctive enough to identify it as his.

I would have liked to seen a few sportswear pieces from Dmitry. That’s were his talents lie. I think I like the dresses that he did quickly better than most of these. Although the white one has promise (I can’t see the front).

Elena’s is the best by far. She has used some of her ideas from the season and refined them very skillfully. I see the first one is a remake of the L and T dress with chiffon fabric for the under dress, very pretty. And the two coats look a bit like the Taking Heads one, from day to evening, and the one she did for the Fall Collection challenge. Both cleaned up and presented as they should have been with more time to rework. My pick for the win.

  • Christopher’s first look is a perfectly cool city look, but it’s a bit simple and the rest is all kind of generic. Elena’s is the most interesting out of this bunch

    • In_Stitches

Apparently that wasn’t even Christopher’s.  It was my favorite of his as well which says a lot about what I think about his looks…

      • Oh wow. Well that does explain why it fit in so badly with the rest of the collection.

  • susan6

I’ve seen far too many 1970’s sci-fi movies to appreciate Elena’s.  Seriously, I expect to see really bad special effects and men in silly alien monster outfits right behind the models.  It is a cohesive collection, though, gotta give her that.  Hate the lipstick, but not as much as I hate the eyebrows on Dmitry’s models.  Fugly.

  • onyxkatze

One-Way Monkey proves that he is definitely not a one-trick pony, and there are some great pieces here, but I am not loving his collection quite as much as I want to.
Elena’s collection is like high-fashion Tron-inspired clothes… and I would totally wear them. Really fresh and graphic. Too bad about the styling.

  • fringebenefit

The goofy, matchy-matchy lipstick on Elena’s models is just a deal breaker for me. Dmitry–wow, what a disappointment. And Christopher’s shades of gray gown is stunning.

  • In_Stitches

Christopher’s is a bit…slutty, no?  Lot of thigh, nipple, leather booty shorts etc.

Dmitri’s doesn’t seem to have much cohesion.  You have drapery, tailored construction, sheers…the only thread that ties them all together is the color black.

Elena’s tribute to Tron is pretty cool.  Well styled, highly cohesive, if a bit repetitive.  My only real complaint is a lack of diversity: where’s the gown?  A suit?  Maybe those pictures will be uploaded shortly and if so…well, I’m wrong.

  • Terrie_S

Am I the only one who looks at Elena’s collection and goes “Hey, it’s Tron!”

    • StelledelMare

I thought that too and I kinda love it

  • EverybodysStarling

Did Dmitry and Gunnar make the same dress? With the graphic print, which looks like it could bite?

Edit: No, apparently it is just me going insane. I could’ve sworn Dmitry’s last dress was the first dress for Gunnar.

  • I hate myself for saying this but out of these three, I like Elena’s the best. That L&T harness dress idea refined is actually very interesting and she used COLOR! Bright yellow, blue, wow, I’m stunned. The lipstick is awful but if you don’t look above the necklines the clothes are really good.

Christopher is a snooze fest and I’m disappointed in Dmitry. He had so much more potential than this. Makes me think he didn’t make it to the finals and did a half-assed decoy collection. Sigh.

    • Hey girl! I’m off to toss some more “fan favorite” votes Dmitry’s way.  I guess that’s pretty much all we can do for him at this point!  I’m bummed.

      • I’m bummed too. Whoever commented that Dmitry will always have Vegas was right on the money and this makes me weep. He’s still my fan fave though.

  • Elena really needs to get a job as a costume designer on a scifi show.

  • I’m ashamed to admit how much I like Elena’s collection, considering how much I dislike her. If she makes it to the final (which I do not think she will) she could have a shot at winning. I love Dmitry’s collection, but I don’t think he makes it to the final. I think he has a career in fashion even if he doesn’t win. Christopher’s is nice. He is obviously talented. Nothing blows me away like Elena or Dmitry.

    • pookiesmom

      I love Elena’s too. Surprisingly.

  • VicksieDo

    Elena = TRON
Dmitry = the styling makes me question your taste level, but the dress with the sheer panel in the center is made for Zoe Saldana.
Christopher = most wearable, i like

  • marilyn

Christopher and Dmitri are just as  expected.  Just fine.  Elena?  What is wrong with her?  The clothes  were unattractive and drab.  Not to mention a little scary.

Of the 3, Christopher’s clothing is the most likely to make a woman look attractive. Dmitri’s clothing is drab, dark and rather weary looking.

  • Citric

I have no idea what Elena’s designs look like because of the crazypants lips. They’re all I see.

    • bitchybitchybitchy

Add the leggings/hose with the thick stripe-another problem for me.

  • Ugh, Dmitry did the eyebrow thing, and the yellow lipstick on Elena’s models is distracting. All three collections look pretty good though. I can’t wait to see them moving down the runway.

  • Dmitry’s freaky eyebrows and Elena’s freaky lipstick. I wish they wouldn’t have done that.

    • janierainie

      Times 100.

  • halo323

HATE the styling on Elena’s models, but I would wear the shit out of that last dress.

I love Christopher’s collection: it’s by far my favorite of all of them.  He’s definitely my pick to win it all.

Final 3 prediction, based on these collection photos: Christopher, Elena and Melissa.  (To be clear, those are the ones I’d pick if I were a judge.  But we’re talking about the same people who chose Gretchen and Anya to win it all…)

  • Pupioso

Okay elena’s? WTF? I get the point of view to a degree but totally boring and one note all the way. the designs on the dresses are virtually all the same. I say no way she is a finalist in my opinion.

I like Christophers and I also like Dimitry’s as a whole. Good job by those two. Christopher’s color palette is a little weird to me but overall i like the designs.

  • Sara Leiste

I was wondering if Dimitry was channeling the Star Trek Cast, but I am absolutely sure that Elena was channeling the aliens!

  • Elana + awesome! I hope she’s not a decoy!

  • PinkLemon

    Dimitry FTW

    • Really?  I mean, god! – I hope you’re right.  I don’t think so, though.  I adore him, but I don’t know what happened here.  Oh, don’t get me wrong, I still have the love, big time – I’m just not loving his collection.  Wouldn’t it be great if you were right, though?  🙂

      • PinkLemon

Yeah I’m talking in terms of these three. But honestly I’m really unimpressed across the board. I like Dimitry, but I think Christopher has my fave aesthetic. His collection was a snooze tho. We shall see!

  • tignor

These are the thoughts that I audibly said about the first two looks. And I’m at work.

    “oh, wow!”
    “OH, WOW!”
    “She’s naked!”

Then I got to the eyebrows and lips in the last 2 and I’m just…holy shit, what the HELL?

  • Kate4queen

I couldn’t wear a single piece of Elena’s collection but it is the most interesting visually. I can’t believe I’m saying that LOL
I like elements of the other two as well.

  • Okay.  I scrolled so that I couldn’t see the heads on Dmitry’s girls, and there are some pretty things in there.

  • I like Elena’s way more than any of the stuff she’s done for the show so far. Only even a little bit like the ombre mermaid dress of Chris’s. Can’t get past the Frida Kahlo brows on Dmitry’s models.

  • Jasmaree

Never thought I’d say this but…Elena FTW. By far the best collection here.

  • sockandaphone

wow all three collections are….nice? really loved dmitri’s and elena’s particularly. but my god the styling. i just cannot with those eyebrows and the yellow lipstick

  • barbarienne

Christopher has some nice pieces, though others are bland or derivative.

Dmitry has one or two bland pieces, but most are visually interesting. I wish he had fewer sheer fabrics, though, particularly over bellybuttons. Nothing says “tacky” like false modesty. Either go bare midriff or put that thing away. Sheesh.

Elena’s are visually powerful, but not original. “Costumey” is fine on the runway, but not when it says “I watched a lot of schlock SF in the late 70s and early 80s.”

  • guest2visits

It’s unfortunate that the designers chose to do that with the lips and the brows. It’s so distracting, and more importantly –
it removes the audience by a degree from seeing these designs as something relatable, wearable, and translatable to their own
needs and environment.  I also think it’s kind of ametuer-ish. Like the work is so weak it needs a gimmick to distract.
That said, I like alot of Elena’s, and I expected much harder (black) looks from her. And; there’s a tiny bit of Mondo in this I think.
And I love that first blue jacket of Christopher’s, and Dimitry’s shimmery first dress.

    • MilaXX

That’s not the point of fashion week. If they want to do they they could simply mail their look books out and everybody stay home. Part of Fashion Week is theater. We’ve had designer send models in in taxis, painting to look like aliens, etc… I don’t mind the lips and eyebrows, it’s just stupidness like Gunnar’s that irk.

      • guest2visits

There’s probably alot of theater in Fashion Week. I get the ‘show’ aspect. And I get making things that are art for
art’s sake alone.  But I can also see items that are editorial or dreamy being translated into something very
attainable and wearable.    I’m thinking that the PR contestants want to bring something that doesn’t bore the
judges, and still has a broad appeal. The choice of the neon lips and the unibrow was an added undesirable style
element to me; it distracted in a negative way, – and it didn’t add to the overall look.
But; what doesn’t work for me, might very well be the schiznit for someone else. Reading other people’s posts
has certainly expanded my own ideas about beauty and fashion. In fact, I’m in awe of the writing and expression
of the majority of the bloggers here.

  • barbarienne

All of you who are loving Elena’s must be under age 30, or never liked science fiction. There are some cool pieces, but the overall aesthetic could only be more “this is what people wear in the future!” if they were jumpsuits. It’s what happens when schlock TV and movies have no costume budget.

    • Agreed. Did you notice the coats that looked like the coat she made last night?….that they hated.

And what was with the eyebrows on Dimitry’s models?

    • meowing

I thought her clothes looked like jigsaw puzzles.  Somehow, don’t know who wants to wear a jigsaw puzzle.

    • MilaXX

Nope, 48 and a major sci fi geek. Sure I see the sci fi  influence, but I like the color blocking she employed here. I can also see these piece easily translating to real life. Those tights with a neutral skirt I would ear in a heartbeat. That plum shealth dress with the chartreuse straps? I would love to have in my closet. Sure the styling is sci fi, but that’s the theater of fashion week. It’s part show, part runway.

Critiques carry more weight when you break down what you like/dislike of collection as opposed to talking down other posters for liking/disliking them.

      • “Critiques carry more weight when you break down what you like/dislike of collection as opposed to talking down other posters for liking/disliking them.”

THANK YOU! One of my pet peeves about this blogsville world is when folks resort to petty digs at posters/commenters to get their point across. Everybody has an opinion. Everybody is not going to have the same views as yourself. Just state your argument and keep it moving.

        • Exactly!  We’re all Bitter Kittens here!  There’s no need for anyone to poke at each other if you don’t like the same style or clothes.

      • barbarienne

carry more weight when you break down what you like/dislike of
collection as opposed to talking down other posters for liking/disliking

You’re right, and I apologize for shortcutting way too much here. I didn’t mean my comments as a dig at other commenters, but I see how I didn’t say it very well.

I was startled by the overwhelming love for what looked derivative and cheap to me. My specific thoughts on Elena’s collection:

        1. There are many good uses for felt in clothing, but it does not read “high end” to me. For a couple of accent pieces, it would be great, but the overall feel of this collection was heavy.

        2. Not enough variation in the colorblocking patterns. Over the shoulders, across the boobs, around the ribs. Same, same, same. The gray/white dress (#3) and the mauve/gray dress (last) are nearly identical.

        3. An aesthetic that I associate with the worst aspects of otherwise good SF. Prior to the 21st century, SF shows couldn’t get a reasonable budget, and the costuming and sets often suffered for it. Cheap, mass-producible, easily repaired, easily modified to be something else as needed… Huzzah for the miracle workers who dressed those actors, but I expect better when the goal is “create new fashion” not “make humans look like different aliens each week for no money.”

If Elena had been inspired by low-budget SF and elevated the looks to something new and different, then I would be cheering. But her whole collection is too exact, too literal for me.

        • MilaXX

Thanks for clarifying. I see what you are saying but I think that’s why I like it. I think the saddest part of it all is that Except for 1 or 2 other collections, these really aren’t that great. I hope Melissa & Fabio are true finalist because others run from sad & safe to outright tacky.

    • CozyCat

I’m well over 30 and I love sci fi.  And I love Elena’s collection–there are several looks (particularly the coats and jackets) that I would love to own.

    • Sorry to disappoint you but I’m over 30 and science fiction doesn’t bother me. Elena’s collection is one of the better ones this season.

  • VRuss

    I want Dimitry’s silver dress… WOW!

I also want Crostopher’s 8th look from top to bottom, the black pants and that top… It is sooooo gorgeous!

I would like to know what drugs Elena wwas on when designing that collectionn. Yikes!

  • tahoetapper

Were Dmity’s models women or men?

    • miagain

I thought they all looked a little “shopworn”…

  • Bozhi

These three look like final collections, because they look like they cost more to make than the other collections, but I have been wrong every time for the last three years.

    • MilaXX

Everyone gets the same amount of money both decoy and finalist

  • Joshua

Well, if I was shocked how much I disliked Dmitry’s styling, I needed only wait till I scrolled to Elena’s collection. I have to admit how disappointed I am in every collection. I’m either terribly out of touch with fashion or these were all decoy collections and the producers are going to completely surprise us by bringing back three previously eliminated designers.

  • ThaliaMenninger

    I am underwhelmed.

  • kim i

wow.  i’m kind of amazed at how … off the page i am.  i guess i’m the only one who liked dimitry’s collection.  best.  out of all of them.  elena’s … looks like more shade of hipster finland/stella mccartney colorblocking to me.   it bores me, with the exception of the turquoise skirt and little chartreuse jacket.  maybe the pentultimate dress.  still, these pieces look to me like they’d be dated after a season or two.  christopher’s got some nice lines going on, as did melissa, but dimitry’s … just … look … wearable.  like they’d feel good and make your body look good.  i don’t get the styling, but … well.  i must be crazy.  i’ll go sit alone in that corner, over there.

    • I’ll hug you!

  • Stefanos Mantyla

Christopher – mostly department store scratching the surface of red carpet. I am reminded of the Chris from season 8.
Dmitry – with styling by last season’s Olivier. Really, now? Still no wow pieces except for maybe that last dress, which I am not sure I really like, to be honest.
Elena – points for point of view. Lips are definitely distracting and gimmicky. Not enough range.

  • kismet026

LOVE Elena’s collection – given what we’ve seen from her, I was not expecting anything near that strong. It’s very memorable and exciting, and it takes the “point of view” Elena has been struggling to express on the show and actually applies it in a way that is pleasant to look at. Perhaps Elena is one of those designers who is struggles in the Project Runway format, but can create strong work in the real world. Given her trajectory on the show right now though, I don’t see her making it far enough in the competition for this to be anything but a decoy. She’d have to have a huge improvement in the quality of her work. It’s a shame though if this is a decoy, since it’s my favorite of the bunch and I could see it winning if it were eligible.

  • Presumptuous Insect

    Dmitri. I am disappoint.

  • Omg, Elena’s models they look like they have beaks. SO DISTRACTING.

  • Jasmaree

Okay, changed my mind a little.

Top 3: Fabio, Elena, and Christopher
I hope Fabio wins. Elena’s a close second, but I think it’s a little too repetitive. The gray/white dress and purple/gray dress are exactly the same look with different colors.

    • Presumptuous Insect

I love Fabio’s too!  The colors make me happy for some reason. And his doesn’t look like the rest. The blah rest.

  • MilaXX

The more picture they add, the more I like Elena’ collection. I don’t mind the lips since it’s a fashion week collection and works with the theater of it all. Looking at the clothes there are lots of things to like. Sure some of the jackets are her usual Romulan style, but the dresses are really, really nice, and the shorter jackets are well balanced with more traditional cut pencil or short circle skirts. I even like the tight she has. She’s not my favorite, but she’s my choice for the win.

    Dmitry is a hot mess.

So far My final 3 are Elena, Fabio (I hope) and Christopher

  • SapphoPoet

So, I just looked through the pictures and can’t remember anything that Dimitry or Christopher made for their collection. Nothing stands out to me, and the collections don’t really hang together very well.

Elena’s, however, is very memorable. I don’t like any of it–totally not my style–but it is the most cohesive collection of the three. It shows vision and design chops. I wouldn’t have thought she could do that.

  • Were Elena and Dmitry having a ‘freakiest make-up’ competition?

I’m actually impressed with Elena’s collection. It’s sort of an updated Mod look. I love the shapes and the details, but not the color story.

Dmitry, not so much. Very hit or miss.

And Christopher’s best look was the first one (which doesn’t even look like it belongs i the same collection as the others).

    • VestigialMe

My thoughts exactly. I think using more color and tone on tone like Jay would’ve done wonders. Still, it’s intriguing which is more than I can say about most of the other collections.

      • I hate to say it (because of her behavior) but I actually like Elena’s the best.

But these are still pictures and my mind may change when I see everything move though.

She should be slapped for that yellow lipstick though.

  • Susan Crawford

Elena has obviously imbibed too many deuterium cocktails at Quark’s place on Deep Space 9. But I will say that there are some really intriguing items in her collection, and she has piqued my interest.

Christopher’s collection is all over the map withut discovering anywhere new. Sorry.

Dmitry’s collection is very uneven – I honestly have to study the pictures more, but my first (and second) feeling is disappointment. I see some great skill, and a need for an elevation of Nina’s old favorite: taste level.

  • Julie Fountain

I did not even see any of Dmitry’s clothes as I was too busy wincing at the Angry Birds eyebrows.

  • jmorino08

Ooooh! I really like Christopher’s looks, but are they too mainstream or too department store? Dmitri has taste issues and Elena’s collection looks really put together, but is rather one-note, no?

  • Based off this group –

ELENA FTW! Not a fan of hers, personality wise, but she definitely killed it with her collection.
Second up is Chris. I love a lot of his pieces. Dmitry comes in third.

  • Samuel Donovan

Continuing with the ‘stores people belong in that aren’t Lord and Taylor’:
Christopher: a cross between Carolina Herrera and Hot Topic
    Dmitry: Cache
    Elena: Abaete (now defunct)

  • PaulaBerman

I loved Elena’s audition collection and I love her finale collection. She is a crazy monster, though, so it’s hard for me to endorse. I also really liked Dmitry’s, but it wasn’t particularly notable or innovated. Christopher, meh, I think he’s the most overrated designer of the season.

  • katchwa

Elena’s is VERY current, and she has a aurprisingly great sense of colour. Why have we never seen this from her??

  • NCDFan

Amazing how different people’s reactions are to the collections. But I have to say the angry birds eyebrows and yellow/green lips are exceptionally distracting.

  • LesYeuxHiboux

Insane in the Ukraine, indeed. Is she doing the costumes for the Tron sequel? I kid. I love geometrics and futuristic fashion and I like a lot of what she has going on here. Notice that there aren’t many coats on display.

I like Dmitry’s white jacket with the sheer geometric detail, and I could see Gwen Stefani rocking that crazy-pant-fring-sleeve-jacket ensemble.

I like a few of Christopher’s pieces but none of it feels terribly fresh.

  • Like everybody else, I’ve looked at all the collections and find myself tres surprised to like Elena’s the best.

That said, at the end of the viewing found myself reminiscing about the ‘oooh’ thrill I got when I saw Jay’s collection. Nothing close to that level of creativity and joyfulness here.

  • tallgirl1204

Christophers is pretty.  Elena’s is incredibly interesting, but the styling with the lip color is so off-putting I have a hard time paying attention to the clothes or imagining them on “real” women.

  • Glammie

    Dimitri–overworked and dated
Elena–good items nearly ruined by styling.  Those lips, those distracting lines on the tights.  She needs to talk to Mila.  No styling would be better than what she did.

  • bitchybitchybitchy

Elena’s styling decision with the yellow lipstick is bizarre.

  • I think the yellow lipstick served its purpose, actually.  Against the backdrop of meh, eh, blah, and boring, the yellow lipstick is a signal: Pay attention, something decidedly different is coming at you.  There’s no way this could win the show that PR has come to be, but I’m thrilled to see Something Completely Different come out of PR again.

  • Elena’s is just way too repetitive for my taste. I am a bit surprised by all the colors since she seems like such a black and gray girl. But two have to iterations of the same dress in the same collection without any change in styling or adding a jacket or anything is just a total waste. It shows zero range. but some pieces are cool, but color blocking overload. Pretty impressed by Christopher classic, well made, and just enough interest without going over the top. the only sour note for me is the leather shorts and tank top just seems like a bit of a throw away

  • AnnPopovic

Lightbulbs have just gone off in my head. I now understand why plucking eyebrows is so important; all those women are what? 20ish? They look like 50-somethings that got vacuum-packed back down to 40. But I like some of the tron outfits. The yellow lipstick pops, but that green just says “disinfectant needed”. And I could see the batman/bondage little dress on Kristen Stewart. Oh, wait…I DID kinda’ see that dress on her. Oh, well.

  • janegray

LOL the angry eyebrows on Dimitry’s models. They all look like muppets.

    • Montavilla

I think they all look like Frida Kahlo.

      • True… maybe that’s what he was going for?  It didn’t work out well, but maybe.

      • janierainie

She would fit in better with a Mondo type collection. I have fought all my life for my eyebrows NOT to look like that!!

  • I love the first four of Christopher’s, save for that leather skirt.   That gown is gorgeous, but I’d like the brown shirred blouse better if it wasn’t so sheer.
Dimitri — I am so disappointed.  I like the 1st and 7th the best, but that manly eyebrow and slicked hair are downright scary — I thought the one model in the black trousers was a man at first!  And wow, he finally used a color — if a sickly yellow, but I was hoping for better.   I know the man can tailor, but these are all so hard!  The sheer top with the bandeau is hiddy.
Elena — The first thing I see is the lipstick -ugh!  But I do appreciate the color and structure of the garments.  They’re all cohesive to the unity of the collection,  although they all look like they’re off the back lot of the original Star Trek. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, and I’m glad she broke away somewhat from her original boxy tops with endless quilted rows of fabric.  And thank you Elena for the pretty COLORS!  I suspect she is a finalist with these. Her attitude may be nasty, but these are better than I expected.

  • I can’t believe I like Elena’s the best. That cropped yellow jacket with the grey is divine. At least hating the makeup and hose on her models makes me feel like myself again.

  • hoez

Elena’s in the final 3, isn’t she? And Dmitry’s styling… THE BROWS AGHHHHHH. Reminds me of Olivier.

  • It KILLS me to have to say this, but I really am not crazy about a lot of Dmitry’s collection, and I really hate the way he has his models styled.  I do love that first silver dress, don’t like the second yellow one, iffy on the one shouldered black one.  I do kind of like that little pants suit – it’s different. Hate the sheer black top and white pants. Hate the white jacket/black skirt.  LOVE that little tribal flapper fringed dress.  Hate the beige one right after it.  Hate the black top/yellow skirt.  LOVE the fancy gown!  So that’s four loves, six not-loves.  I’m so sorry for my disloyalty, my Imaginary Boyfriend!   Based on that collection, I think unless there’s a miracle, Dmitry ain’t winning this bitch, and that makes me even sadder that he’s designed so beautifully all season and hasn’t won a thing.

Elena’s collection is surprisingly good, so I’d peg her for one of the final three. I hate her styling, though – that neon lipstick ruins all the looks.

Christopher’s is very pretty. More traditionally pretty, which I’m sure appeals to the crackheads at Lifetime and BM.

So my money on the actual winner?  I’d guess Christopher.  Since Lifetime/BM took over, they’ve just been completely heavy handed in letting us know, from episode one, who’s winning.  We knew Gretchen and Anya were winning.  We knew Mondo was winning All Stars.  Why?  Because BM has all the subtlety of a sledge hammer.  Christopher has been the unofficial “narrator” of the season, the judges love him, he’s won two challenges, and he has the most traditionally “pretty” clothes out of the collections shown today.  I’m calling it now – Christopher looks like the real winner to me.

    •  I hear you! I was hoping for better from my favorite Dmitry too, but he stuck with his dark, dark palette and that manly, severe hair and makeup is awful!

I sort of agree with you on Christopher, but going with the logic of previous seasons, Elena has been the meanest, so she’ll probably win. (I hate the neon lipstick too)

      • Don’t worry, hon – I may not be nuts about Dmitry’s collection, but I still have the Dmitry love!

I’d much rather have Christopher win than Elena- he sucks just a bit less, and he’s not mean. I am betting they’re both in the top three, possibly with Gunnar.

      • i’m surprised by dimitry’s styling and his gender-fuck models.  i haven’t gotten this vibe from him during the challenges.

        • I know!  I mean, I’m stunned, it just doesn’t look like anything he’s done!

          • Take a look at some of his previous work on his website – this collection fits in with that a bit better than it does with what we’re seeing on PR.

          • That’s true, that’s very true – I’d forgotten about his website.  You’re right.

          • It makes sense to reuse the same pattern once it’s fitted to the model. Can easily churn out well-sewn yet intricately seamed dresses in insanely short times. The danger is getting dinged for churning out the same dress and I believe this is the first week that it has come up with the judges, so he’s been able to ride it for quite a while.

      • MilaXX

I just looked at some close up of Dmitry’s collection on Zimbio and it looks really cheap and slutty.

    • hoez

I don’t know… Elena has been getting a lot of camera time too. Just in the last episode, most of the narrations were done by Elena. (“WE HAVE TO SELL THEM? ON THE STREET? TO NEW YORKERS?”) but I wonder if she’s getting the Josh edit when it comes to placement….

    • khh1138

I had a lot of the same reactions, running hot and cold with Dmitry’s collection. I’m sad.  Ah, but I take solace in the giant eyebrows, as a girl who has to whip hers into submission daily. As Tim Gunn would say, “It’s a point of view.”

  • nannypoo

I looked at Elena’s entire collection and then realized that I hadn’t seen any of the clothes. The hideous lipstick is so distracting that I had to go back through the collection and cover the models’ heads so I could see what she had actually made. Christopher’s styling is the best and Elena’s clothes are the best so far IMHO.

  • Good Shot

Ugh, Elena’s cray-cray lipstick and those striped hose!  Pass.

  • I just remembered what  all those neon lips reminded me of — Big fat Halloween Wax Lips!

    • hoez

She made them into like.. yellow Sharon!?!! LOL.

  • jo

Where did Dimitry find Vulcan models for his collection?  I swear a couple of them have pointed ears to go with the brows…

Sadly do not love Dimitry’s collection.  Elena’s is too scifi/future work wear.  Christopher’s looks the most commercial (not editorial perhaps, but easy to sell).

  • Elena’s collection is the real surprise of the season.   Whether she makes it to the final or not, for me this group of clothes more than justifies my watching.   Her use of color is sharp and humorous, and she never loses sight of the human form with her color blocking.   There’s something about these outfits that brings to mind the costumes for Natalya Bondarchuk (by Nelli Fomina) in Tarkovsky’s Solaris.   They’re that beautiful.   It’s hard to choose any one that stands out because they work so well together, but I guess I like the purple and grey dress with the yellow straps best.

Dimitry’s collection is the biggest disappointment because he’s genuinely talented.   I expected nothing from Christopher and that’s what he delivered.

  • redgauntlet

Some very interesting pieces by all three designers. While I don’t like her as a personality, I think Elenya’s were most ‘fashion’.

  • MissMariRose

I never would have guessed that I would like anything Insane in the Ukraine created. But I do.

  • CarolinLA

Elena must’ve gone to her happy place.

    • hoez

She probably let her hair down when she made it since that’s when “good Elena” comes out.

  • hoez

Oh! Christopher has that one fierce model that always shows up in finale collections… I wonder if that’s a sign of who made it to the top. 😛

  • CarolinLA

I wish they would disallow so much black in one collection.  Christopher could skate by on a lot of flaws simply because so much of it is so dark.

    Dmitry clearly crashed and burned.

I liked Elena’s until the oversize boxy jackets came in.  But she has the most distinct POV.

  • i love elena’s color story!

  • My god, the styling. I like Elena’s but I wouldn’t be surprised if the styling is a deal-breaker.

  •  Frankly, Chris and Dimitri’s have taste issues. They are rather a mess. I can’t belive I like Elena’s as much as I do but perhaps it is the styling. On the second pass through I realized that a lot of the looks, especially the jackets, are ill fitting. But I sure like where she went with her color story.

  • Elena: These looks are static, undifferentiated, and heavily configured. It’s as if the dresses are maps of dresses, or as if, rather than design a blouse, she’s designed the anatomy of a blouse. It’s very welcome.

  • quiltrx

It looks like the judges preached whackadoodle styling before sending them off with their $$ this year.

  • quiltrx

It looks like the judges preached whackadoodle styling before sending them off with their $$ this year.

  • l_c_ann

Has anyone read what fabrics Eleana used?  Or how her fashions were constructed?

  • quiltrx

I haven’t been watching this season, only keeping up here.  So my opinions aren’t as “formed”.

Anyway, having seen them all…my personal preference is Dmitry’s collection.

Elena’s is definitely the most cohesive, though, and interesting, if not my taste exactly.

  • MzzPants

Um.  Dayum.  Christopher and Elena’s collections look really pulled together and polished.  Dimitry’s work looks well done, but not as cohesive.

  • As much as I can’t stand Elena, I love her collection.. minus the weird lipstick. I like the idea but it looks like they have duck bills

  • lrhoff

These suck, except the last series from Ms. Colored Lipstick.  Perhaps Heidi and Tyra should begin talking about a collaboration/merger.  It doesn’t look good.

  • Well bravo Elena. I would NEVER have believed that your collection would be my favorite. The colors are fantastic, pairing neutrals with brights, I love it. The only element I don’t like is the chiffony tunic in the first look, it looks sloppy.

Oh Dmitry… You’ll always have Vegas.

Christopher? Not a collection, just random outfits grabbed off the sales floor.

  • aristida_girl

I really like Christopher’s, so pretty! It bums me out when designers do crazy things to model’s faces to try to get attention, it really draws attention away from the clothes, and not in a good way. Elana’s is not my thing, but better than I expected… I did not like Dimitry’s as much as I thought I would….

  • ChristinaRi

Dimtry’s has taste issues with his collection.   I’m disappointed.

Christopher’s just looks sort of safe and disjointed.

Elena’s looks the most fashionable and cohesive, but there are some things I don’t like.   It’s quite aggressive, but that’s to be expected.

  • SewingSiren

I’m also wondering if Christopher wins the patterned fabric challenge next week. Looks like three of his garments are patterned. Or was he on the team that spray painted the t-shirts with an object on them? Because the prints look vaguely like that.

  • SewingSiren

And Elena, did she design those shoes? Because I love them and I want a pair.

  • I don’t get how Elena can be a finalist. She repeated so many of the outfits/design elements in the collection, just in different colors. I don’t think she is allowed enough models to limit herself like that. It’s like she only showed a third of a collection, or ran out of ideas. And those dissolving boobs are just offputting.

  • . I agree with everyone else about the styling. The cro-magnon brows and the neon frosting lips were both so bad, it made it hard to even see the clothing, which is s bummer, because Elena’s stuff was much better than anything she’s done on the show. That makes sense, though. She is clearly a person who works best alone, and she seems loke she works more slowly than what the pace of the show allowed for. Dmitri’s is obviously a decoy. Ugh. I’m a little surprised it’s so bad. At first, he seemedlike a real contender, but the further the show goes on, the more obvious it becomes that his chops are limited.

  • Scorpia_Mossmoon

It looks like Christopher designed his whole collection for Kristen Stewart. Lots of attitude, not so much sophistication. Dmitry needs to stick with the officewear sheaths because everything else screams “Belarussian Ballroom Dancer”. Elena did the unexpected, good for her.

  • With the exceeption of the #7 coat/dress(if it makes the model look fat…) Elena’s collection is not only the most cohesive, but the best designed, most wearable and inventive.

    The other two: meh.

Every piece: been there, done that.

Didn’t watch the season, so I have no reason to hate her…

But yeah, the Tweety lipstick is so hideous, that in relation to it, the green lipstick almost works.

  • Qitkat

Shrieks. Throws mouse at computer screen and runs from room.

  • lavi bookman

Am I the only one to dislike Elena’s collection?? :/
Yes, it’s cohesive, but it’s just incredibly repetitive. And as a graphic designer, I don’t find any of those bulgy graphic shapes interesting. The 2 strips on the legs are very distracting. Colors are boring too…

    • Clacey

No. Those looks are all ugly. The color-blocking is unflattering on the models, imagine how bad it would look on “real” women. And, as you say, unbelievably repetitive.

  • L.

What the???  Why are Dmitry’s models all made up to look like Leonid Brezhnev?  And Oh Lord, the Clown Mouths!  Can there even be an explanation?

  • fashionablylate

Christopher’s is hit & miss, love the first two looks. I expected more from Dmitry – not good. Elena’s, LOVE. After looking at all the collections, hers is by far my favorite.

  • Clacey

The styling of both Elena’s and Dmitry’s models is HORRIFIC. What is up with the heavy, masculine eyebrows on Dmitry’s girls? I don’t get how that is supposed to relate to his sleek, glam-with-a-bit-of-a-twist aesthetic. Maybe that’s his idea of a “twist”, but it looks really bad.

  • Vic

I could wear some of Christopher’s clothes, Dmitry’s outfits are totally boring, and Elena showed dash and originality. But please, girl, yellow lipstick? It looks like pollen got stuck on their lips.

  • HomeOfficeGirl

Palu – nothing innovative, but current.  I could see some of these on the red carpet with someone like Kristen Stewart.  (But maybe I’m just making associations between lots of leg and bad hair and make up).
Dimitry – hideous proportions on some of these.  Lots of unnessary crap tacked on.
Elena – gives PR a bad name. It looks like over-eager and clueless art school project. Fail.

  • moonaberry

Elena’s collection uses the same skirt three times in different colors.  Ditto with the pants. I’m not impressed.

    • alula_auburn

Maybe she hoped everyone would be too distracted by the idea that she’s been force-feeding her models paint to notice the repetition?  (I think she did the same dress twice, too–3 and 10?)

  • I hate Elena’s collection…I am disappointed in Dimitri’s styling…(ugly women??? with unibrows??) and Chris collection is bland.  I like Ven’s and Sonjias collection best.  The most artistic collection is Gunnars collection, but I just do not care for it.

  • the pants

While Elena’s collection is cohesive and a little interesting, all I could think when looking at it (especially the tights) was “Is this collection inspired by the movie Tron?”

  • THOSE EYEBROWS! Oh la lalalalalala! Are angry eyebrows Dmitry’s way of expressing his feelings about not making it to the top 3????! (Note: I don’t actually know the outcome – just a guess based on the lack of cohesion in the collection). There are a few beautifully done dresses in there, but the fringe accents…oh dear. (P.S. I still love you Dmitry)

Christopher. Meh. I see the broader appeal. For me, his work tends to ever-so-slightly miss the mark of creativity.

Take the makeup away, and I kinda really like Elena’s. Take her personality away, I might like to see her in the top 3.  And now, I must make amends for that past statement by voting for Dmitry….

    • Natasha said:  “(P.S. I still love you Dmitry)”LOL!  I still love him too!  And you know what?  I’m a little over my disappointment from yesterday, and at this point, I figure I may as well let my squeeing fangirl love carry me all the way through and just root for him.  I mean, there’s NO ONE who’s collection I really like a lot, so why not cheer on my favorite?   Besides, here’s the other thing – yes, we know his runway collection isn’t great.  But there’s, what, four or five more episodes to go till the finale, right?  (Did I count that correctly?)  He could very well pull out something to wow the judges, and maybe even win a challenge or two before the end of this whole thing.  Who knows, he could do well enough in these last handful of challenges that he legitimately makes the final three.  We only know that he shows badly in his *final collection* – what he does in these last few challenges before that could possibly be amazing.  So, I dunno – I know I sound naive, but I’m not ready to give up faith in him yet.

      • I hope he makes it to the finals too! That way we’ll at least get a backstory. 🙂 🙂 I don’t love any of the collections either. I will cheer for our favorite Belarusian alongside you!

        • It’s a date, sister!  😉  We’ll stand by our man! (Oh and I just followed you on Twitter – I’m on there too!)

Here are my comments on Christopher, Dmitry & Elena’s outfits:

    1.  Christopher — has some great outfits, but some of them are so-so.  Particularly the fourth, fifth and seventh looks are bad.

Dmitry — I don’t think he makes it to the Top 3.  Few of his outfits are great.

Elena — I like some of the outfits but that LIPSTICK?!  It’s got to go!

I guess I liked Christopher’s outfits most and Dmitry’s the least.

    • alula_auburn

The fourth one is one of those things where even the model’s hips look big!  How do they do that?  I guess he really likes that print, but it’s like you’d have to work to place it so badly.

  • DinahR

Are the designers with the whacky makeup/styling usually the ones actually showing?  I have always thought that schtick was spawned by the judges and their vague ‘be modern’ ‘be youthful’ or ‘your styling is boring’ comments.  Then again I think the whacky eyebrows last year were on the young male designer that didn’t like breasts.  So…

Anyway, I kinna like Chris, but it doesn’t wow me.  I’d like it in a store, but it’s not very exciting fashion wise.

Dmitry – I like what he’s done for the most part, but the lack of cohesion makes me think he did not make it and just ended up doing what he wanted instead.

Elena – I really like this, but mostly I’m reacting to the colors she chose.  I just like brights.  I’d never wear any of it, and really a lot of it is repetitive.  Just the same silhouette color blocked differently (dresses) or just in a different color entirely (pants, skirts)

  • paintedfish

what is with the stupid effing makeup?

  • alula_auburn

I’m way too creeped out by Elena’s lipstick to look at most of the outfits.  I think MAYBE some of the coats, especially when not paired with those stupid striped tights/leggings, might be kind of cute, and less aggressively square than some of her show offerings.

A couple of Christopher’s I quite like and a couple are just a mess.  But the ones I like are more like, “huh, pretty” and not “OMG that’s amazing.”

Not crazy about Dmitry’s, sorry to say.  Actually less elegant or tasteful than what he’s doing on the show.  And wtf with the eyebrows?

  • Elena’s looks too R2D2 for my taste. Gosh, the makeup is horrible on all of them! Like they were purposely trying to distort their models’ faces to look the same. Christopher’s is so on-trend it’s barfy. Dimitri is bad taste!

  • bitterk

Wow, surprises everywhere.  Where to begin.  Dmitry’s is sadly underwhelming.  I was rooting for him but he needed to show some versatility and unfortunately several of the attempts are tragic including the mc hammer pants and jacket.  Christopher threw everything in but the kitchen sink.  He’s showing range but overall the collection doesn’t feel cohesive.  Insane in the Ukraine Elena’s collection made me sit up and smile.  Tres original and I am thrilled she added color, lost a little volume and toned down the armor.  Great job.

    • hoez

      If Christopher’s doesn’t look cohesive to you… don’t look at Sonjia’s. 😛

  • FloridaLlamaLover

The last photo on Elena’s collection looks like the Otterbox for my iPhone.  Same colors.

  • Clacey

After reading many positive responses to the Shrieking Marmoset’s collection (here and on another site) I felt compelled to take a second and then a third look. Nope. Still not feeling it. I still think it’s as ugly as her personality. Comrade Snape really let us down here – judging by what he’s been turning out on the show, I was surprised that I like so few pieces here. I like Christopher’s gown, even though it’s not exactly innovative, and one or two other pieces, but overall I’m not impressed.

  • LambeeBaby

Elena’s collection was obviously inspired by Tron and Dimitri’s model’s eyebrows are so hideously distracting that it was difficult to look away from them.

  • Christopher’s definitely a finalist just for being the season’s pet. But his collection…. it’s just so underwhelming. You can tell he has a sophistication in his aesthetic, but it’s undermined by how slutty and juvenile most of these designs are. And the ones that ARE good are just pretty and nothing special. So over this collection. If he wins, he’s going down in history with Gretchen and Anya.

Dmitry’s is so so so disappointing. His signature jersey dresses are so chic and impeccably made, but once he amps up the drama for Fashion Week, he shows some real taste issues. Feathers everywhere. Fringe everywhere. And when it’s not tacky and overdesigned, it’s frumpy and underdesigned.

Elena’s is ah-MAZING. I knew that once she escaped the stress of team challenges and one-day looks she would truly shine. Still, looking at her portfolio, this collection is completely unexpected. Simple, adorable, chic, sellable and with a clear point of view. And who knew that Elena had an eye for color?! Wow! A lot of these designs remind me of her L&T dress. Obviously she’s learned that she’s able to tone things down and still have them look good. The lipstick only works when it doesn’t blend into their skin tone, but it’s a cool high-fashion touch.

    • amian3

I really like Elena’s colors–some are expected pairings and some are really unusual. That mauve looks fantastic. I her’s is by far the best collection of the bunch. And I mean collection not random assortment of garments, which some of the other seem to have achieved (Dimitri?).

      • And then SOME collections (coughMELISSAcoughVENcough) are just the same dresses over and over and over. One-way monkeys indeed.

Elena and Fabio for the finals. I feel like Christopher’s the third finalist just because he appeals so much to the “teenage girls who love adorable bitch gays” demographic. It’s the “tumblr appeal”. If he wins I think I’ll punch a 12 year old.

  • I hate to say it…..I really like Elena’s the best so far.  That lipstick is distracting though.  Christopher’s No.2 dress is pretty but kind of done.  And, where did Dmitry find all those Vulcan women?

  • NeedleMythology

Elena’s collection is reminscent of Ben Chmura’s finale decoy collection.

  • Thathoodwink

Please make these eyebrows go away. Why would  you take an attractive model and make her hideous with those eyebrows?

  • holdmewhileimnaked

every piece of this stuff is better than last seasons stuff. considerably more professional, down to whatever rings around the bottom. still, though. still, here:

elena’s work is okay but it’s not good enough to offset the lipstick–which brings it down by, i dunno, five thousand percent. she really shouldve left it out. cos her work is good. but not so good that something ruinous wouldnt ruin its reception. & the lipstick just throws it off, concentrates one’s focus badly. the second & the fourth outfits have enough charm & panache to work against whats working against her work but the rest of it, oh, it’s a battle.

christopher hairboy palu’s stuff is better than i’d expected. still, it’s mostly high end department store clothes–like the store brand somewhere between nordstrom & barneys–w/ a bit of pretension.

i am very very saddened by dmitry’s. his final dress here is, of course, totally smashing but all of the others are forgettable. the one a few pics up from the final that echos the final, eh, it’s just what i mean. it’s just not quite there. i’d say it was a misatch between the dress & the model if the whole rest of the collection werent giving off the same low level vibes. damn. he was my pick to win too.

actually i am pretty sad anyway. crazyspouse died. he really did. i didnt believe it would happen–he was so ridiculously sturdy–but, yeah. yeah.

    • l_c_ann

Hold yourself together, kid.  Drugs are a lot worse for some people that they will ever know.  But the people who love them will know it for the rest of their lives.

Go outdoors with a sketch pad and just concentrate on doing a pencil drawing.  Put your mind in a safe place and put the bad pars aside.  Make bread by hand, knead it till it bounces.  Do something for yourself.  Good luck and hugs.

    • SoAustentatious

So young.  So sad.  My heart goes out to you.

  • kosmoheadon

I think Dmitry just misses the Soviet Bloc. The styling is clearly a wistful recreation of the aesthetics of 1976 East German women’s swim team. Ostalgie for the win!!

  • mhleta

Christopher: Love the gown and the blue trench. The rest is pure shit.
Dmitry: Killed it! I LOATHE the heavy eyebrows, however.
Elena: I wanted to hate her collection because she’s SUCH a shrew, but man, she brought it. This is really cool. I’m thinking she’s got a brilliant future as a sportswear designer, which is weird because I initially thought of her as a designer for cyborgs.

  • kaycem

i’m kind of shocked that i like so much of elena’s considering how many of her pieces i hate on the show.  the lemon/cream circle skirt w/ the lime/grey jacket is too cute.  i also like the blue and grey jacket — she definitely toned down some of the “coffin” tendencies she has.  it’s just oversized and structured enough.  loving all the pegged pants too.  the body con dresses would be so much better if the color blocking weren’t so odd.

  • Not blown away with anyone’s designs.  Hopefully the actual show will be better.

Elana looks like she watched to much Lost in Space and is recreating the costumes from the TV show.

  • PhillipWilde

Christopher has some stunning pieces (the ombré gown) and some that should be burned immediately (the tank top paired with the leather shorts).

Dmitry’s looks range from matronly to skanktastic to just plain fugly.  I’m so confused.

Elena’s yellow jacket is beautiful, her dresses are decent, and the rest is a yawn.

  • CarolinLA

Christopher’s fourth look is LITERALLY a bandage dress.

  • Vodeeodoe

Dimitry and Elena surprised me the most. I thought D might win, but those outfits tell me it ain’t gonna happen. Elena’s stuff was more colorful than I imagined, and the pieces look well made. I think people might go for the pieces as separates. Several of Christopher’s were gorgeous. That tonal print is fantastic.

  • I don’t know what I find more terrifying, the lipstick on Elena’s models or the eyebrows on Dmitri’s!
I’m rather impressed with everything here, though. No train wrecks. I’m really rooting for Dmitri but I have to say, I think Elena nailed it here!

  • libraangel

And the winner is – Christopher! But hate to admit it – Elena’s was interesting! Dimitri – seen before.

  • Melissa for the win; the others collection are SO bad. Why?????

  • NCDFan

I liked more than half of Christopher’s looks. Dmitry had a few good looks but if you look at the models retreating down the runway at the side of the photos the backs are not particularly good. Elena’s …. my first thought was Halloween skeleton costumes, but there are a couple of looks which are interesting.

I love Elena’s collection, as much as it pains me to say. Say what you will in reference to styling, color scheme, the sci-fi feel, etc., but it is a runway show (emphasis on SHOW). There needs to be a sense of showmanship and artistic expression while still leaving room for the pieces to mentally scaled down or edited, and that is 100% accomplished.

  • The Duckfaces are sooo scary, eeek!

  • Elena’s collection looks just like her, bat shit crazy.

  • I can’t shake the feeling that perhaps the yellow lipstick is a brilliant editorial commentary on the “duckface” epidemic that facebook and twitter currently suffer from.

  • oohsparkley!

Christopher had a nice gown.  Nothing too original, but very nice. Elena’s seems one-trick pony to me.  What was the funny expression they used? Wierd shaped color blocking. Hideous styling with the yellow lips and Frida brows.

  • Buffy

Olivierieiriri wants his eyebrows back!  And that lipstick on Elena’s models just pulls all the focus from the clothes, some of which (not the jackets) aren’t bad…

  • boweryboy

Elina’s collection is the only one that looks cohesive with a definite POV.

  • Lattis

I love Elena’s collection. In fact, of all the 8 collections – hers is the only one I’ll remember regardless of who wins.

  • I love Dimitri’s work.  Elena’s is too similar, skeletal, whatever.   Christopher’s work is consistently nice.   Although one of those leather skirts is kinda not right.

  • OMG i love elena’s! i dont know y y’all are complaining so much abt the lipsticks. i agree it throws u off the first time. but the more i look at it, the more i love it. it goes well with the collection. i really hope she wins!

  • Are there clothes in this post? All I can see are LIPS and BROWS.

  • Clacey

In the last episode, Comrade Snape told the make-up artist that he wanted a “futuristic Joan Crawford look” for his model, so I guess that explains the eyebrows. Knowing that doesn’t make me like it any better, though.

  • Dmitry & Elena’s collections both make a lot of sense in light of the print challenge now. The colour scheme is really close to Elena’s print, while Dmitry has repeatedly used that laser cutout effect here. I’m so curious as to whether either of the made the finale…Dmitry may have based on the fact he stretched himself and showed more separates here than he has on the show to date.

Elena I’m torn on. That styling looks like it should have been previewed and torn apart by the judges, but we all can’t be that lucky I guess – perhaps she was one of the unfortunate ones to proceed to fashion week without judging critiques. Also a lot of her outfits look askew / imbalanced, upon a second viewing.  That kind of symmetry demands, well, symmetry.

  • Sherry Copeland

Elena’s collection is WILD! Love it!

  • Adrianna Grezak

I wouldn’t necessarily wear Elena’s clothing, but she certainly has a perspective and sees fashion in a specific way. I think she has potential to establish herself in the fashion industry, if only Project Runway didn’t show how difficult she can be to work with when she’s stressed

  • I love it and I love the lipstick.

  • I think that, for someone who is highly creative, passionate, and a bit insecure, Elena behaved incredibly well under the circumstances: 3-4 hours of sleep per night, 20 hours of work per day, no access to one’s personal inspirations such as music or gardening, cut off from all of one’s friends and family, everyone around you (except Tim) a threat, and too little time in each challenge (really, only 12 hours of actual design and execution) to perform quality work. I don’t think the industry should expect PR designers to behave the same way in real life that they did while being abused (and perhaps cheated) by the PR production team.

Elena was quite harsh in team challenges, but she wasn’t gratuitously insulting — she was often just being too blunt (under stress and exhaustion) about stating the truth.

As for her collection, I think it isn’t quite as cohesive as it is repetitive. It’s more daring and thematic than the other collections, but it repeats several tops with minor variations. And for old-timers like me, it is reminiscent of an old sci-fi TV show, Space:1999. Futuristic, yes — but futuristic from the perspective of 1975. The repetition of similar tops and sheer leg stripes creates the effect of a line of uniforms, not a high-fashion line. However, if in fact Elena was inspired by something like Space:1999, she did update the look; she made it newer, colorful and, at times, a bit sexy. But also flat: the silhouettes tend to be rather boxy.

I would have liked to have seen edgier silhouettes and colors, shapelier shoulders and hips, and a variety of different fabrics in the tops.

We all know Elena can be edgier than this collection suggests.

Still, I agree it’s one of the better presentations this season.

  • Darko Rosie

I love Christopher’s dreamy gown, the X-ray print is modern, chic and gives me the chill ,but the third look just looks like a prostitute;P

Dmitry’s work really stands out, like everything he made looks crazy expensive.
    BTW,where is Malissa?
