Pairs Division: Kruger and Jackson

Posted on September 12, 2012

Didi and Josh got themselves all gussied up:

Joshua Jackson and Diane Kruger attend the premiere of “Inescapable’ during the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival. Joshua is wearing a Louis Vuitton suit and Diane is wearing a Valentino couture dress.

SHE: Made us laugh, unintentionally. Not that there’s anything wrong with that top knot, but we just got finished saying how tired we are of seeing it on every editorial assistant and stylist at Fashion Week. All the young ladies have the top knot and the ten-pound shoes; all the boys at Fashion Week have the high-water pants and gingham shirt. Enough, fashionistas. Anyway, she looks really good. It’s a gorgeous dress and an appropriate pair of shoes. The makeup looks great and the top knot actually suits her. Score: 9.5/10.

HE: Is serving up Thurston Howell III realness and we kind of love it. That is a gorgeous jacket and those are fabulous pants. Unfortunately, his shirt collar’s all kinds of messed up and his pants look like they could’ve used a little tailoring. We salute the attempt, but he’s not quite as impeccable as she is. Score: 8.5/10.

Combined Score: 9/10. She’s in Valentino; he’s in LV. That seems about right.

    Pacey. *sigh*

  • MarissaLG

NOW I AM SELF CONSCIOUS BECAUSE I’M CURRENTLY ROCKING A TOP KNOT. Oh well, T-Lo- I still love y’all. You know who else I love? PACEY.

    •  Top knots are completely suitable for home, workdays when you’re a day away from needing to wash your hair, and at low-key social events like bowling and the cinema. But why the hell are they all over Fashion Week when Fashion Week is the time to stand out and make a statement? What whaaaat?

  • Clueless_Jock

    So chic.

  • My favourite couple, they never disappoint.

    •  Totally agree. Even though I objectively hate every single thing they are wearing and how they are wearing them, I just can’t stay angry.

I haven’t been this invested in a celebrity couple since Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins.

  • And what’s up with the tendrils of hair pulled out of the side? So silly on such an otherwise polished look.

  • Tracy_Flick

The sleep deprivation is getting to you, TLo. Get cool washcloths for your foreheads and lie down in a dark room.

That dress is pure Patsy Stone, her hair is severe and unflattering (and the wisps pulled out on the sides are just weird), and he looks like he picked up whatever was on the floor of the closet and put it on.

    • Right? Next thing they’ll be 2 distinct curly tendrils.  I shudder at the 90’s coming back in vogue.

      • janetjb

        90’s?  I’m thinking 60’s and 70’s!

    • Araina23

The my skirt’s stuck in my stockings is not a good look.

      • Kristin McNamara

RIGHT??! That skirt is SO. WEIRD. I see your “skirt’s stuck in my stockings” but I thought it looked more like there was a string attached to the hem of it… and some puppetmaster was having some fun lifting up her skirt like a theater’s curtain.

    • TheOriginalLulu

LMAO. Yeah, I give this a Girl That’s Not Your Dress.

    • call_me_schmeg

just noticed this but the styling, right down to the side wisps coming out of the top knot, is spot-on to the runway. hmmm….

    • DaringMiss

Agreed. She doesn’t have the thickest hair, so the top knot gives her a pin-headed look.

Love the shoes, hate the dress.

He is bypassing stylish into douchy…

    • G

I hate that dress… with fur???  it’s hideous.

    • Judih1

I SO agree with you. TLO’s sleep deprivation and celebrity sightings is impacting their normally right on accessments

  • I’m not loving the over sized black fuzzy strips around her chest. It looks like two huge pipe cleaners.  Also, not in love with his shiny pants.

    •  Agree.  I think they both look silly.

    • mshesterp

Yeah, this isn’t working for me either.  He looks a little sloppy and i don’t understand the pipe cleaners.  Or the weird skirt.

    • Yep. Diane is wearing a Barbie blouse, and Josh is wearing parachute pants.

  • teensmom99

I see how the dress is great but I think the top is not flattering.  It just looks like something one of my late great-aunts would have worn to a family wedding (they were Hungarian so they were FANCY and well-dressed but still seems too mature to me).

    • 3boysful

Agree.  I like the dress on the model, but somehow, Diane’s too short-waisted (I sympathize) for it, IMHO.  Hate the severe topknot–it’s like she’s trying to show off a newly-botoxed forehead.  Or else she feels she needs to botox and hasn’t had time, so she’s making do by pulling her hair back tight.

      Still love her, tho.

  • I love those two kids. WERQ IT, BITCHES!

  • Plus, he shaved and doesn’t look homeless…HUGE help!!

    They look GREAT

  • call_me_schmeg

i love me some didi, but does anyone else think the skirt on the dress looks like she might’ve accidentally tucked it in the front of her undies?

    also: PACEY. (just had to…)

    • PinkLemon

Yeah, it’s a bit clumsy. She’s got my fave bod in Hollywood. Her waist is enviable. Also her style.

      • call_me_schmeg

oh hunty, i have a whole pinterest board dedicated to our girl. yes, i am that kind of nerd.

        • charlotte

Her and I are from the same area. Okay, that’s about all we have in common, but still.

    • 3boysful

I think it’s just the weird left-side slit that’s making it bunch.

      • call_me_schmeg

looking closely at the runway image, it’s not as much of a slit as it is the skirt has been tacked up which makes it all bunchy and weird over that leg. granted, it’s obviously supposed to be that way, i just don’t get it.

    • My exact thought when I saw it.

  • janetjb

I thought he was accidently pulling her skirt up.

  • I love what she’s wearing. But more importantly than that — how are you guys finding the time to do all these posts in the midst of the whirlwind you’re in this last week??? Are you hooked up to a caffeine drip and sleeping in a hyperbaric chamber?

    • I want to sleep in a sensory deprivation chamber.

  • Introspective

these two always do something interesting on the RC, especially didi. never run of the mill. the skirt on the dress threw me for a loop, but then i realized it was a fab touch. im a fan.

they are worthy of their high score.

  • Judy_J

That dress makes her look short-waisted…the proportions are off.  And I’m sorry, but I really don’t like those shiny slacks.  Every wrinkle and fold is highlighted.  And they’re just too long.  I’m not feeling the love for either of these two outfits.

  • lizajane1776

The way they are standing in combination with that skirt makes it look like his hand is up the skirt. Oops! Or should I say w00t! ?

  • Shoelover1512

I just can’t. I like his outfit except his pants seem way too long.

    As for her:
Hate the hair, but it would probably be fine but for the wispys which make it look sloppy
The shirt is strange with the 2 things of fluffiness but other than that cute enough
Skirt looks like part of it is stuck in his pant pocket and thats why one side is riding up.

  • kolokOlchik

Pacey looks so good cleaned up!

  • charlotte

Pacey *squeals franctically*. So…I’m not into her look at all and the top knot is unflattering…but…Pacey!

  • ChelseaNH

Sorry, not loving them.  The black banding on the top strikes me as entirely too crafts project.  As for him, the pants are a wrinkled mess and he needs a tie (or, if he’s really going for Thurston Howell III, an ascot).

  • Her dress scrams “holiday” to me. And Joshua… Yes, please. He looks like he slept in those pants, but I love the jacket, and I’m so glad that he shaved. I <3 Pacey.

  • Love the Thurston Howell reference, but I can’t get behind the matte jacket with shiny pants. Admittedly I’m not a menswear expert but it just looks off to me.

  • Snailstsichr

I like his pocket square. It is kinda making up for the fact that he needs to hem his pants…if I squint.

  • leftcoastpickle

Meh. I agree with whomever said Patsy Stone inspired dress. Those black parallel stripes are not doing it for me.
But! For the Canadians in the crowd, you will recognize the fraction of the logo for the Bay on the carpet!

    • It takes so little to make our Canadian neighbors happy! We could learn something from these mysterious Canucks in our midst.

      • schadenfreudelicious

i dunno, it does take more than a HBC logo to sate this Canadian….though i am a cranky kitten today 🙂

  • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

Love her dress; hate the top knot – always have, always will.

  • Okay, now THAT? Is one fucking *stunning* couple. Head to toe gorgeous, both of them!

  • Trisha26

Hate her topknot & not crazy about the cut/drapey oddness of that skirt. Wish he’d worn a tie and hemmed his pants…

  • That is a dress that you see on pictures of your aunt from the late 1980s and laugh and laugh while she goes “I know, I know, but everybody wore them!!”

  • If he’s serving up Thurston Howell, she’s reminding me of Pebbles Flintstone with that hair.  I think he looks considerably better than she does, even if his pants are a little long and could have used a pressing.  Hooray for shaving, though, and hooray for pocket squares!

  • fungstyle

As cute as she looks, I muse say I am disappointed in her exact replication of the runway look (including the hair). I expect better from my style muse.

  • MilaXX

No issues with the scores but I hate those tendrils she had hanging on the sides. Otherwise everyone looks great

  • FashionShowAtLunch

Loving his tartan pocket square.  Oh, Pacey.

  • Lilak

    Hey, it’s Frau Blucher’s great-great-granddaughter!  I do like those non-blucher shoes, though.

  • Pants_are_a_must

Oh dear. If this is a 9/10, I hate to think what atrocities you guys are seeing at Fashion Week.

  • I hate her hair. Those wispy things by her ears (and on the model for that matter) are horrible. Her top knot would have been better without them. Other wise, so fucking chic.

    • poggi

Ew.  I did not see those at first until you pointed them out.  Its a little catfish-like, and catfish are not typically a good fashion reference.

    • MilaXX

YES! I want to get a pair of scissors and snip them off. I don’t hate top knots, but the wispy tendrils is too 5th grade for me.

  • jw_ny

His shiny, wrinkled pants, his messed up collar, and her librarian top knot…that’s all I can see!  Those missteps far outshine any positives that might be there…ugh.  I’ve just realized this pair is on my irrational dislike list.

  • kelsita421

i feel like a poor excuse for a bitter kitten, but i just don’t get this dress. not the “oops my skirt’s tucked into my undies” and not those fuzzy black strips around her shoulders and is her waist obscured a bit or is it just me? maybe it’s a case of the wednesdays, but i’m not feelin’ it. sad, cuz i so admire her style. and him. yes. pacey forever.

  • i’m not feeling as generous as you two, i’m afraid.  as others have pointed out, those tendrils that are supposed to be hanging down are going every which way, and the waistline of the dress is less than flattering.  would have liked it a little higher, so as to look intentional rather than just too short for her.  and the skirt looks a little random, as if it got tucked up in the restroom somehow.   could she have chosen any more boring shoes?  i’m starting to feel towards plain black pumps as i do towards silly putty patent platforms.  say that fast ten times.

and i’m not buying those shiny rumpled trousers on thurston.

  • Srsly?

His wrinkled shiny pants and her ridiculous hem, they make me cringe.

  • Her dress is mega-hids. I thought that was what you were laughing at. He looks fine, and not nearly as rough trade as he does in the  new EW.

  • Does anybody look good in that Hot Lips Hoolihan top knot?

    • poggi

No, I think it is somewhat unflattering on everyone.  But it think it’s competitively unattractive. “I can do this, and still look good.”

  • Kim

lol at least he’s not looking like a bum

  • Sara__B

She looks good because she’s a lovely lady and exudes “I look fabulous” attitude and energy, and her posing skills are super-model good. Her dress and hair would look ridiculous on anyone else.

  • I appreciate Valentino as much as the next girl…but that dress is hideous beyond belief. Let’s try to be objective, shall we?

  • bittykitty

i’m not loving how literally she took the runway version, down to the same hairstyle

  • EEKstl

    Thurston Howell III realness…too funny.

  • CarolinLA

I’m so sick of these two.

  • holdmewhileimnaked

eh, it’s not a valentino by valentino. & it shows.

  • kimmeister

Yikes, I think they look terrible.  Not the wearer’s fault, rather the garments are just ugly.  I’m shocked that his ensemble is even a suit, it’s just a mish mash of competing fabrics and blacks all thrown together.

  • kirkyo

I am totally OK with Mr. Jackson being slightly sloppy. It’s part of the appeal.

  • ojosazules

I’m fine with her face and hair, but the top of that dress looks like it got ran over by one of my grandson’s Tonka trucks. The fabric on both of them seems all shiny and cheap, and the pulled up hem of her dress looks like it got snagged on his suit, or something.

  • Zippypie

Valentino or not, that dress is butt ugly.  Am I seeing Pacey actually SMILE?  Wow.  That’s something new.

  • nannypoo

That topknot does not suit her at all. Her forehead is way too big and her hair way too pale for this to work. Very few women look good with their hair skinned back like this, and she is certainly not one of them.

  • lucasuk82

I have a really strong visceral hatred  for her dress; it’s difficult to analyze, but something about the strips of ribbon (?) and fur (?) really set off my fug alarm and skirt looks jacked up.  Love the colors, beading, and shoes, though.  I’d like the topknot more without the piecey bits in front.  He looks really lux and groomed, which isn’t always the case.  However, they always get high marks for looking like the care about their style and for each other.

  • That jacket and pants are a horrible combination, even on the model. The jacket is good – it’s also nothing new- but the pants look like cheap sleepwear.  It fits him poorly too.

  • quiltrx

I am not a fan of the top-knot with formal clothes.  Oh well.

And the skirt of that dress makes my eye twitch…like she caught the edge of it in her Spanx when she went potty.

  • libraangel

Her looks are fine, his looks are fine, clothes not so much!

  • filmcricket

    They both look ridiculous.

  • LilyPad

When I first saw this picture I thought her dress was caught on his suit or something. Just a head scratcher of a look if you ask me. Pacey looks delicious as always.

  • Verascity

Really? I’m not seeing this one even a little bit.

  • Patricia Gillett

I hate top knot outside of ballet class. His pants look like he slept in them.

  • piecesofconfetti

I love how they are the opposite of boring, even when some of their fashion “risks” don’t pay off. It pays off here, though.

  • Her hair looks like me when I get out of the shower.  No excuse for that (even for me).

  • BazoDee

I love love love these guys -they never make boring choices and she especially is almost always impeccably styled. The dress is not my favorite but it doesn’t mean she’s not WERQing the heck out of it. And I always appreciate Josh Jackson’s choices -he always finds ways to not wear the expected suit and/or tux unless he HAS to. The pants are too long though. And damn is it just me or does he have the sexiest feet?

  • lrhoff

Don’t like the top knot….have a little more respect for the outfit you’re in by at least trying to make your hair look nice.  I use this when I’m scrubbing the bathtub!

  • I hate the pick-up in the skirt: it looks like a beginning seamstress accidentally sewed the front of the skirt onto itself. And his shirt collar is distractingly skewed. I’d’ve given them 8/10.

  • alyce1213

Oh my, really?  There is absolutely nothing I like about this dress — I find it hideous, actually: way too much nonsense going on all the way from shoulders to hem.  Her topknot is the least of her problems. I give her 2.0 but only because the black pumps are not objectionable and her face is so happy and beautiful.

I like shiny pants on a man only as an exception, maybe on Alan Cumming, but awful here. Same for the velvet lapels.  He also gets a 2.0.

  • guest2visits

That suit looks good on the model; but I just don’t know why I don’t like it on him at all.
I’m not sure I like the dress either, she’s attached to him- so it’s hard to say. But I know I don’t like the pinned skirt.
And I really think the top knot is cute; I don’t mind seeing still.
