Naeem Khan Spring 2013 Collection

Posted on September 17, 2012

Taking his cues from the Duchess of Windsor and other jet-setting ladies, Naeem Khan offered up a world-traveler’s collection of florals, sequined dresses, beaded gowns, stunning prints and caftans. A classic, high-society form of elegance updated with a modern multicultural sensibility. Plus it’s all so damn pretty.

Wow.  My favorite collection so far.

      • rougeort

In total agreement. Nothing is trying too hard but everything is so beautiful and eyecatching.

      • Judih1

Me too! Beautiful clothes, unique vision and totall wearable. Love that his models have a range of skin tones!

    • frannyprof

I see FLOTUS in all of these. And Cathy Cambridge. Soooooo gorgeous.

      • jilly_d

Totally. I SO want Michelle in the yellow halter top gown in the last row

        • MilaXX

I think Michelle could wear that whit top/yellow skirt on the bottom row  & the navy/white center dress on the 3rd row.

        • Winter_White

I’m hoping for the rose-print gown with beaded bodice for Michelle.

        • 3boysful

She would look lovely in that–provided they give it a nice underlining!  Otherwise, national incident!  On my initial pass, I didn’t realize how sheer some of these were!

      • Jenna Chapman

Came here to say this. More FLOTUS than Duchess, though.

    • Catiline

That red-and-orange gown.  THAT GOWN.  I clutched.

      • Sobaika

Hats off to any celeb who wears it and pulls it off. It’s quite the gown!

        • Sartorial_She

          Maybe Cate Blanchett?

          • shirab

Or maybe that’s the one for FLOTUS?

            • you’renotmysupervisor!!

I saw FLOTUS in that immediately.  I would die if Christina Hendricks went for it (slightly modified).  Girl on Fire!!

      • Aurumgirl

I know!  That blood orange colour is fantastic.  And that retro rose print—reminds of something Grace Kelly would have worn.  A beautiful collection but we’ll probably see a lot of it edited for the sheer.  And yes:  far more like Michelle Obama than Cathy Cambridge.

    • lalahartma

      I like!

    • gabbilevy

Oooooh. Hard time picking favorites, but the left two with the b/w roses on the first row, the middle dress with the circles in the second, the one on the right with off the shoulder straps in the third, and the center dress (but without the cape) in the sixth–those ones would all look fabulous in my closet.

    • hughman

I love how everything is shown with fab flat sandals. It really makes some of them not so “girl at the clurb”.

    • granddelusion

      I’m looking at her THONG.

      • silaria

        You perv. XD

        • granddelusion

Ha, ha. Not because I’m a perv, but because it’s so obvious!

    • Sobaika

GORGEOUS. I’m loving the prints and color.

    • marlie

Very pretty. I like the florals a little less than the more geometric beaded shapes and patterns, but it’s all really lovely, and I wouldn’t turn anything down should someone offer to buy a piece for me.

    • MilaXX

Very pretty, very romantic collection, but could we PLEASE do away with the sheer clothing. No on make sheer pants & expects the male celebs to strap on a thong and walk the RC, can we stop asking lady celebs to put on a peep show every time they go out in public?

    • Verascity

Holy gorgeous. I hope FLOTUS wears one of the whites.

    • Liana Brooks

I want that first row of dresses, several others are RC material.

      • AudreysMom

mmm…yep, except for the art class smock/beach cover-up that is that blue thing in row 3. WTF?

    • In_Stitches

Unnervingly beautiful.  The lighting and styling makes the girls look…unhuman.   I do love it though.

    • Kerry McCombs

    • Winter_White

      Everything is so beautiful.
But…re the white gowns in the first row:  if Naeem Khan watches Project Runway, he too is hoping Ven will stop with the stylized roses.  (Yes, I am horrified that I looked at those and thought of Ven.  Need a long break from roses in dress design!)

    • ralish

These are absolutely gorgeous– and they’d be even lovelier with some lining. Still, I covet nearly all of these… and the lifestyle that would allow me to wear (and afford!) them.

    • msdamselfly

      very beautiful

    • mjude

    • Sara L.

I want someone to wear that silver art deco-y one at the end, so lovely.  I can’t think of who, though.

      • BrooklynBomber

        Charlize Theron?

        • Tatiana Luján

          Keira Knightley?

    • BrooklynBomber

I really want the red dress, far left, second row from bottom. I mean, really, really, seriously, achingly, really truly.

      • 3boysful

It’s yours, dear!  So long as I can have the b&w number, row 1, far right.

        • BrooklynBomber

Fair enough — it’ll look gorgeous on you!

    • marilyn

      Beautiful but not innovative.

    • BrooklynBomber

This is interesting b/c when I first saw the Marchesa line, I begrudgingly had to admit I liked several pieces, but the whole show lost luster when I looked a second, third, and fourth time. I still like some, but not nearly as many as I’d thought at first glance. This show, it’s the opposite: I liked quite a few on first look, but having looked twice more, I see more I like that I didn’t notice the first time.

    • tallgirl1204

So, first row, far left:  would this be a black-and-white print that our Miss Hendricks could rock properly?

      • LesYeuxHiboux

That might be a great nod to her love of feminine frippery without making her look frumpy. I wonder if she could handle the white or if she would look completely washed out.

      • Snailstsichr

         That’s exactly what I thought!

    • Judy_J

Love all of it, especially the first 3 black and white numbers.

    • ChiKat67

I love everything…however ENOUGH WITH THE SEE THROUGH GARMENTS!  This isn’t a PR challenge where you don’t have time to properly finish a garment (hence all the exposed zippers) so why can’t everything be fully lined?

    • Kathleen

      Gorgeous. Love, love, love.

    • Kate4queen

I love that row of reds and pinks particularly!

    • LesYeuxHiboux

I love all of the prints, but the black-and-white roses and water prints especially. That white gown with the art deco detail? Imma go full Rachel Zoe and just die over that one. Whoever wears it must keep the turban. I want to see a badass full-grown woman in that dress. Someone like Viola Davis or Zoe Saldana.

    • Tatiana Luján

Around the World in 80 Dresses.

    • quiltrx

WOW!  I generally like Naeem Khan anyway, but this is REALLY fabulous.  I think I love every piece.  I’m tired of the sheer thing, but that’s a quibble–it’s everywhere, and expected in collections.  This is gorge.

    • Zippypie

Some gorgeous red carpet wannabes right there!  The circles were the least successful for me, but that red print dress in the second to last row?  Drool!!!

    • sleepycat

love the print on the first row

    • butterflysunita

I love this collection.  My favorite so far.

    • guest2visits

Just beautiful.   Favorites; 3rd gown, first and 6th row.   2nd row, 2nd dress; love that shade of blue.

    • Trisha26

That black rose print – to die! I’ll take one of everything. Wrap them up, please!

    • aristida_girl

      sooo pretty…

    • Lisa

OMG OMG OMG!!  SO much pretty!  LOVE it all!

    • gillian holroyd

So no one objects to the rose vortex print? interesting.

      • 3boysful

Love, it, notwithstanding Ven.  Partly because it’s not in every dress, and partly because it’s not tortured origami.

    • mmc2315

Ah, my favorite collection so far.

    • Lisa Kramp

Stunning, and real-world wearable. I could see my current size 16 self in a couple of those, and that doesn’t happen often.

    • Beth G

The blues in there are scrumptious.

    • MissAnnieRN

He’s already dressed Kate, Michelle, and Angie. Looks like he’d like to continue to. Although the navy frock withe the sash and gold embellishment is a Katie Holmes number.

    • holdmewhileimnaked

i’m sick today again [of course], so my judgement may be a little off. but at least today i think this is the second best collection you’ve posted this season, right below chado ralph rucci. me, i love the brilliant blue lace + cape thing. the rest i remember not as well but that one jumped out at me as much as if i’d startled a kangaroo hidden behind a bush.

      • 3boysful

You’re judgment is unimpaired–it is a gorgeous dress.

        Feel better soon.

    • Claudia

    • Cathy S

    • EEKstl

Absolutely stunning.  I’m already playing the “which ladystar is going to wear which” on the RC come awards season.

    • bitterk

      It left me breathless.

    • LocMama

I’m breathing a little hard looking at this gorgeous runway.  Khan has quickly become a favorite designer of mine & I can’t say I ever had a “favorite designer” before.  So, thank you TLo & thank you Naeem Khan.  I think I’ll wear that sunset strapless gown to Costco & go check my blood pressure.

    • foodycatAlicia

3rd row centre looks like an ultrasound. Aside from that this is all lovely!

    • lrober03

Really loving the multicultural influence here.  I can see Princess Kate and FLOTUS wearing this collection when travel abroad as a nod to the cultures that they are visiting

    • LinXGUA

      Gor-ge-ous. That’s how princesses dress.
