Lea Michele in Lanvin

Posted on September 27, 2012

We’re really not going to “Of course” her this time because this is cute and slightly unexpected.

Lea Michele attends event where she is formally introduced as the new L’Oréal Paris spokesperson in NYC in head-to-toe Lanvin.

Lanvin Été 2012 Platform Sandal

We love a good ladies trench (which sounds horribly dirty when we put it that way) and we love a good coat dress. We supposed this had to be shiny in order to make it look like a dress and not like she’s a flasher, but it might be just a skosh too shiny for us. Still, it’s kind of a cute look for her. Love the shoes.

Also, we can’t help it, but we think the following pictures are hilarious:

Because sure, Lea totally applies her own makeup and styles her own hair when she’s making public appearances. In fact, she does it in front of cameras during the public appearance. That’s totally not staged at all, you guys.

  • Gimme a break.  We have to be turnips to believe this was a natural happening.

    • Of course it’s natural, just like the way she naturally displays the labels of her cosmetics as she applies them.  Who doesn’t do that? 🙂

      • Reminds me of that moment in Wayne’s World where they start selling the shit out of product placements (including drinking from a Pepsi with the label out).

        • HK4Seven

           Nuprin!  LIttle.  Yellow. Different.

      • hellomissmadeline

Uh, actually she doesn’t, well at least not here. Her hand is totally obscuring the label of the hairspray and the writing on the other products is so tiny it’s not even legible (at least not to me). Do I believe these pictures were staged? Without a doubt. Do I believe she would do such a thing? Yes. She’s just not doing it here.

    • MinkaL

Isn’t she the new face of L’Oreal? I was under the impression this was a press event introducing her as the new face of the label. So of course these are “staged.”

    • Kristin McNamara

Plus, nobody can apply mascara without opening their mouth and making the mascara-face! Come on L’oreal, let’s get real.

  • VicksieDo

She is one strange character, but the coat dress is great.

  • eowyn_of_rohan

I would kill puppies for that coat.

  • Ruth Preston

It’s all fun and games until you get mascara on a frillion-dollar shiny trench coat.

  • “We’re really not going to “Of course” her this time”

I’ll do it for you then… OF FRAEKING COURSE!

    • Deb_Lynn

agreed – it’s still her typical wheelhouse, as it’s a dress that looks like a jacket that’s loosely worn, ready to reveal her SEXY NAKEDNESS OMG

  • jilly_d

Personal best for her. Love the sandals. 2 point deduction for duck face in the lip gloss photo.

  • Sobaika

Cute dress – now if I could just get my hands on her tragic hair, we’d be in business.

  • Call me Bee

I don’t know. I love me a nice coatdress, but this is way too much like an actual coat I had years ago in the same shiny fabric (it was the 80s…) Maybe it’s the color. Not liking it at all.
    Killa shoes, though.

    • AudreysMom

Me neither. In fact, it looks a little (dare I say?) cheap. They wouldn’t use coat fabric for a dress, and the choice of something shiny is interesting, but somehow it doesn’t do it for me. And none of this brings LM any closer to my heart.

      • Call me Bee

        Dare, dare!

      • Introspective

yep. cheap’s what i thought when i saw this number. good shoes for sure. but the coat’s a pass for me.

      • Pinup Ghoul

Is it, as La Nina would say “chip in a chip way”?

    • schadenfreudelicious

i have to get on your bandwagon…i had a similar shiny one in the 80’s…my problem with the look is the satin has no weight or stiffness to it, makes it look less like a coat/dress and more like a dressing gown…

    • NC_Meg

I am also not on board with this look. It’s a *gold trench coat.* Also, she totally looks like a flasher to me.

  • janetjb

The dress is unexpected, but the ‘behind the scenes’ stuff isn’t.

  • afabulous50

She’s getting PAID – what is she supposed to do – say no?

  • nannypoo

Great dress. I don’t even mind the shininess. I’d like to see it on someone I can tolerate.

  • AlinaValero

    obsessed with those shoes!!!

  • Anathema_Device

Yes, the way the labels on the L’Oreal lip gloss and mascara are pointed at the camera at this L’Oreal-sponsored event makes it so not staged. So funny.

Yes, she looks cute. Yes, the trench is too shiny. But I like that she looks approachable and isn’t forcing the sexy face.

ETA: Re-read and realized she is being announced as a L’Oreal spokesperson here, so I’ll cut her a little slack for the staged photos.

  • Wow, she actually is managing to not look like she’s trying to hard, for once.  More of this, please, Lea.  Please. I’m begging you, here.
Oh, and naturally, you put your makeup on, and style your hair AFTER you put on the gazillion dollar trench dress, right? Of COURSE you do.

    • deltabronze

I especially like the spray can of hair product. She could probably avoid getting lip gloss and mascara on the dress, but there’s no way the spray would miss it.

      • Then again, she is quite clearly not spraying anything out of it, so its a moot point.  lol

    • littlemac8

OMG  She has so much makeup on she looks sort of like a Mme Tussaud figure of herself.  And aren’t her brows a lot heavier than usual.  I think she looks like a drag queen in the makeup application pictures.  LUV the shoes – Gorgeous!

  • Kayceed

Where have I seen that dress before? Anyhoo, I have an irrational(?) fear that she will open it and flash us at any moment.

  • lehen

  • Scimommy

I’m sorry, but it does scream flasher/stripper at me. She looks like someone you hire for a bachelor’s party or something. Probably because it opens so low on her chest. Makes it into another “of course” moment.

  • Best she’s looked ever, very young and fresh. It’s a little shiny, but that color translates beautifully.

  • In the photo of her totally candidly applying her lipstick, she looks Persian to me. Which is a huge compliment. Some of the most stunning women I know are Persian.  Also she isn’t making her usual kissy face which, oddly, would be kind of appropriate here.

  • TomBord

She doesn’t look at day over 36.

  • MilaXX

Especially since she’s hiding everything a good half mile away from even touching her body.  The trench is cute, but looks a little wrinkled.

  • lalahartma

Nice shoes. I think it is too shiny and too literally like a coat for me.  Not bad though.

  • charlotte

That’s a nice coat. But I mean coat, not dress. It looks like she forgot to wear clothes underneath it.

    • l_c_ann

No one PAID her to wear a dress, so, no dress was worn.

  • annie_wonder

I think she’s finally  learning to smile more naturally instead of showing every tooth in her head like she used to.

Re: the staged shots – is the lip gloss in the tube even the same colour as the one on her lip?  *nitpicky*

  • mjude

    i think she looks adorable.

  • Putting on makeup while she’s already made up. Not cheesy, no not at all.

    • Also holding the lip gloss and mascara tubes just so we can see the name on it.  This is exactly how I do my make up every morning.

      • formerlyAnon

Oh, now, be fair. If the photographer and several assistants and the lighting guy and THAT equipment were all trying to cram themselves into your bathroom to catch you applying (what is obviously the 6th layer of) your makeup, you might have a lot of time to stand around and make sure that the label was showing. Just for something to do besides laugh at the poor gal trying to hang out of the shower holding some sort of screen or reflector.

  • mmc2315

Not bad!  Yes, the fabric is a little too shiny, the belt is too long, and I’m not loving the minimalist necklace, but overall?  Not bad at all.  Cute.

  • Wish she had put something under the trenchcoat, though. The boobage makes it seem expected. And I hate how it matches her skin color.

  • ralish

Ugh. Too shiny, too colorless, too sloppy.

  • mhleta

I like this very much, too! I’m okay with the shiny because it’s not clingy or tugging at the body in any way. The shoes are fantastic. A simple but splendid look on her. “We love a good ladies trench…” Gem of the day. Thank you.

  • Kyle Crawford

didnt someone JUST wear this?? who was it??…..

  • Lindsay McCarthy

I wish she was doing the open mouthed “O” face that everyone does while applying their mascara, that would have been perfect.

  • Too shiny. Eyes burn.

  • I don’t like it, and not because of the wearer, I just think the shiny makes it look trashy, and still like a coat.

  • Jacqueline Wessel

Oh Girl, don’t you know you’re supposed to do your hair and makeup BEFORE you put on the really cute trench dress that I wish I could wear.

  • MaryMitch

I’ve used that hair spray she’s “using” – I got it in that same sample bottle, as a freebie when I bought another L’Oreal product. It stinks; smells like BO. It does work, though.

  • PinkLemon

Personal best. I wonder if L’Oreal forced her to wear it to match their logo. If so, good on them.

  • Little_Olive

It’s too… monochromatic for me. Between her hair, makeup, skin color and dress, it’s all golden earth tones. I need more contrast.

Also,  duckface and pinky-lifting is too much for one picture.

Also also, her eyebrows in the last picture scare me.

  • She still looks like a flasher to me. In fact, I’d go so far as to say that’s what she was going for. Which leads me to conclude….Of Course.

  • It such a departure from her norm that my eyes are in shock and I’m in love. I can overlook the shiny just to encourage more like this.

  • alyce1213

Still trying too hard, still disingenuous, so I’ll join the others who say Of Course.

  • Squarah

I’m just here for the shoes. Gimme!! Not sure if want on the trench.

  • Not staged at all. She’s the first woman I’ve ever seen apply mascara without an open gob.

  • LesYeuxHiboux

She does look really cute. I like the shiny gold trench because it actually seems to fit her “Baby-Broadway-diva-channeling-the-70s” vibe. No one is currently working a look like this. She should see if Rachel Zoe will work with her, because her brand of 70s glam might be just right for Ms. Michele.

  • Joyce VG

Oh come on this trench dress golden thing has wackadoo proportions.  She’s swimming in it.  The shoes are killa tho. And her make-up skills are amazing (sarcasm.)

  • Everything is just. so. and then she has a crooked part.

  • nancylee61

Boobs? Check. Legs? Check. Pee stance? Check.
    Of course!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Sartorial_She

I just don’t get wearing a coat as a dress–or a dress designed to look like a coat. Just weird IMO.
But I love, love, LOVE her necklace.

  • j_anson

I do like it, shiny and all. Though I still wish she’d tone down her posing.

Also, someone needs to tell her that if she wants to convince people she’s doing her own make-up, she needs to not already be fully made up when she starts.

  • JMansm

She looks really good and that coat dress is super cute but I can’t deal with the vampy styling. I know she’s in her mid-late twenties but I just want to see her styled classic and demure.

  • prettybigkitty

LOVE the shoes.   Want the shoes.   Need the shoes.

  • I still see flasher, but a pretty cute flasher.

  • Dhammadina

Did she do her own eyebrows? Because they look like caterpillars.

  • Zippypie

Too shiny.  I can’t get over that.  It makes her look like a Frederick’s of Hollywood flasher.

I just can’t stand her and it’s showing.

  • Rand Ortega

HAHAHAHAHA! Yeah, it’s stupid. But she looks ADORABLE! The dress makes her look tall, sleek & utterly chic. BISH! (Best I’ve Seen Her)

    • RocknRollmom

With your permission, I will be adopting BISH!  Excellent.

      • Rand Ortega

Of course. My pleasure! Feel free to change any of the letters to suit the sitch, like FISH (Frumpiest I’ve Seen Her/Him) or TISH (Tackiest I’ve Seen Her/Him), etc.

  • Larkin21

    Love this look on her.

  • SapphoPoet

    And not staged at all.

  • RocknRollmom

THIS!  She should wear this all the time!  I want the shoes!!!

  • Trisha26

The first thing I thought when I saw it was “Flasher” because you know she’s wearing nothing underneath. Just can’t with her at all.

  • I wish there were slightly less sternum on display, but credit where it’s due:  she looks pretty chic* here.

*Graded on a curve – of COURSE.

  • kikisayshi

I love those sandals, but they must kill the feet. Well, maybe just my feet because they are squishy.

  • Myra C

Of course!!  Sorry I couldn’t resist.  She does look good and not her usual “look at me” clother.

  • I appreciate her changing her looks and applying her makeup

  • Lilak

Looks like this might’ve started out OK but then took too many little wrong turns:  way shiny garment, enough slap for at least two ladies, toes hanging over the edges of the shoes, and a variation on the need-to-pee pose.   A decent idea dismantled in short order.

  • snarkykitten

she looks like a high class flasher

  • Ugh. The lip gloss picture is just an excuse for duck face.

  • Bree The Vole

Gotta say I love this, especially the make-up part. If she wants to be all LOOK AT ME DAMN IT this is how she should go on about it.

  • I don’t love the coatdress, but I can appreciate it for not being too tight and/or too revealing.

  • neofashionista

whenever you can see her sternum she deserves an “Of Course”
so if you lovely gentlemen wont do it I will….

  • neofashionista

also if you have to use boob glue for a coat dress it qualifies as an OF Course! as well

  • glennethph

If there was an of course garment, this would be it.  It’s not even a dress, it’s a trenchcoat.  Of course, the illusion is she’s naked underneath. It’s so her.

  • NCDFan

Wow she doesn’t look like a hooker wannabe. The makeup pictures showing she just one of the girls are a hoot.

  • It’s definitely an “of course” sort of outfit, but it is cute and she looks good.

  • Hm. I still think she looks like a flasher.

  • kmk05

I don’t know, TLo, Kirsten Dunst wore that blue trench coat dress a few weeks (months?) ago and that wasn’t shiny. This is striking but really nightgown-y after a few seconds. She does look really good, though, if a little bit like a flasher.

  • MarinaCat

So much better without the bangs.

  • DylanCurtis

Someone got a hold of her eyebrows and did horrible things to them.

  • I’m remembering a long-ago TLo post of Uma Thurman wearing a metallic trench coat….I think she did it better.  But this is cute, too.

  • carolie_king

The putting on makeup pics COMPLETELY remind me of the old 10-page Maybelline spreads they used to have in the back-to-school issue of Seventeen.  Teen girls in far, far too much makeup posing as if they’re still putting on more.

  • holdmewhileimnaked

it’s pretty but how can it possibly still need to be ironed?

  • lamamu

I agree about the fabric: too shiny. I think a soft material with metallic threading would look way more fab. On a side note, why can’t I stand this girl?

  • lilazander

ef”er… Please, Louise. Why even mention?

  • formerlyAnon

I think this was a good looking dress on her. Except for being a tad too shiny and having either too many things drooping off of it or having the correct number of things drooping off of it, but some of them were a tad over-sized.

The makeup & hair scenes are a little cutesy but seem to have worked as a way of getting a decent photograph of her. As has been discussed, she’s not the worlds most interesting model.

  • MzzPants

She could whip that thing open and reveal her spectacular body at the drop of a hat.  Of course.
