Lady Gaga in Amsterdam

Posted on September 20, 2012

Steffi’s been getting on our nerves lately and we’ve been detecting a whiff of desperation in her recent attempts to get people to keep talking about her. And as the Kittens know, when a celeb gets on our nerves, that’s when we unsheath the claws.

But dammit, Steffi.

Lady Gaga leaving her hotel in Amsterdam.

You still know how to make a fashion impact when the stiletto hits the street. We can’t stay mad at you when you leave your hotel looking like some sort of Victorian S&M Geisha. We just can’t.

We CAN stay mad at you for letting Hot Ginger Handler go, however. Steroid Picard has his charms, but we preferred that bite-sized morsel of intensity you used to have in the background.

      Stuh Ning.

    • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

Dare I say it… I *LOVE* this! And I got tired of her YEARS ago.

    • Violina23

Noooooooooooo, not HGH! Surely you jest, TLo…

    • 3boysful

I still cannot fathom how one descends those stairs in those shoes.

      Love the dress tho.

      • j_anson

Lotta thigh strength. You’re basically doing one-legged squats or chair-sits.

      • http://korilian.livejournal.com/ korilian

Maybe she used the handicap elevator ;)

    • http://twitter.com/iraki86 IraKi

Maybe she let him go because he was so hot that he was pulling focus from her! In any case, I am no fan of LG but she looks amazing here

      • RebeccaKW

I prefer to believe he left-he threw his champagne glass against the fireplace and stormed out.

        • formerlyAnon

Ahh, in my sky-blue-pink reality, he’s tired of the travel & being on call or on deck day after day and an endless procession of airports, performance venues, hotels and hot clubs, found a gig that pays well & lets him sleep at home most nights, and is settling in for a spell of domesticity. Or what passes for domesticity in his existence.

Also, submitted his resignation with dignity and left much-regretted with a standing invitation to return should the charms of home pall.

          • http://twitter.com/iraki86 IraKi

I prefer to think that the were star-crossed lovers who had to fight against LG’s publicist, who is a malevolent son-of-a-gun
(insert mean gay stereotype here) , always plotting against them,  to stay together. In the end, they decided that the whole thing was talking a toll on them and they chose to put an end to their relationship (insert a Casablanca inspired scene here).

        • lovelyivy

I like this one. And can I just mention that if I continue to imagine this scene (and possibly that afterwards they had a slap fight with Gaga being pushed in a pool) AND we decide to continue calling the new guy Steroid Picard that I will be ok with the change?

    • MissAnnieRN

“Leaving her hotel!” Only in Gaga’s world would we all accept this on face value.

    • schadenfreudelicious

i get that it’s part of her schtick, but i just can’t with the shoes…

      • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

The shoes do pain me took look at, the more I see them. I would be happier, overall, with more skill, and less schtick

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=610791985 Aniela Marie Perry

         Me too.

      • http://profile.yahoo.com/XAFAJ53QF3DLEFQB3WTLMRM75E MarinaB

I can’t with her in general.  She is such a joke.

        • schadenfreudelicious

i find everything about her exhausting…she has talent no doubt, but her persona(s) are just too much…

          • http://profile.yahoo.com/XAFAJ53QF3DLEFQB3WTLMRM75E MarinaB

Exactly my thoughts.  It’s no longer innovative or interesting.  It’s just overdone schtick.  Bonus:  there was a Hills marathon on MTV the other weekend and I sadly got sucked in.  She is in one episode being styled by Whitney and People’s Revolution for a gig at a club in LA. She actually seemed nervous and nice.  I wish she went back to her roots.

    • kimmeister

I can’t quite make out the print on the shoes . . . is it floral?

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1401197785 Jennifer Peters-Ahnberg

Wow. So not a fan of hers, but that is an amazing look. That hat is gorgeous!

    • Sobaika

I just can’t with her (or those SHOES). I know this will probably give a lot of BKs fashion-gasms but I find her both batshit insane and totally uninteresting. I think the turning point for me came when she dressed as a male alter ego at the VMAs and used it as an opportunity to convince the world she was a method actor.

      • http://twitter.com/TheRedZavodnik Ginger

        Bless you!

      • JaneDC

        Bless you times two.

      • http://twitter.com/Anthagiox Anthony

That wasn’t what she was doing at all, though. She used Jo as a way to express her opinions of herself. She doesn’t open up as “Gaga”, but she opened up as “Jo”.

    • http://twitter.com/MajorBedhead MajorBedhead

The shoes are ridiculous but the rest of it is pretty damned cool.

    • http://twitter.com/1carmelita 1carmelita

From the neck up, I love it. The rest—no.

    • http://twitter.com/karolcooks karol collymore

      LIVING for “Steroid Picard.”

    • MarissaLG

The shoes kill it for me. Everything else is cool and weird and 70s and everything works and then the shoes are there and BAM- uggo.

    • j_anson

      Mourning.

Anyway, am I wrong in thinking those giant clunky platforms and the floral motif are all cheeky references to Dutch cliches?

    • MilaXX

cute look, but agree on the  desperation. Not sure who’s working my nerves more, her or Madonna with her one sided beef.

    • http://www.ericabunker.com Erica Bunker

She looks like Minnie Pearl in Haute Couture.

    • http://twitter.com/TheRedZavodnik Ginger

      Dear Lady Gaga,
Please, for the love of God, close your damn mouth!
      Sincerely,
      Me

    • NDC_IPCentral

And trotting out on a brick pavement, which may have some irregularities, thereby increasing the potential for a header.  Steffi, you are fearless.  (Me, known, serial tripper – totally trepidatious.)

      • cheesebomb

Yea, the distance she walked in these pictures? I would have tripped and broken my face like 3 times already.

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Eveline-de-Lange/100002254790952 Eveline de Lange

In Amsterdam? I trip over the irregular old brick pavement all the time, wearing normal shoes, let alone wearing shoes like these! Girl has some skills.

    • http://phantomminuet.blogspot.com/ MinAgain

I like the dress and hat combo, but those shoes are an abomination to fashion.  I feel like crossing myself and throwing a little eau de toilette at my computer screen.

    • SayWTH

The hat looks as though it was created at a wedding shower out of a paper plate and the ribbons and bows from the gifts. The “dress” is from my MIL’s guest room sheets (ca: 1972 – which is when they were purchased) and those shoes, well, words fail me.

      • Judy_J

        You described it perfectly.

      • http://twitter.com/Alloyjane Alloy Jane

I totally agree with the paper plate decor hat.  But it could also be a cake top.  As for her shoes, well, club kids everywhere are either really mad at her or really happy, depending on what side of the fence they sit on.

    • charlotte

      Those. Shoes.

    • http://twitter.com/TheRealSandraOh Sandra Oh

That’s one hell of an outfit.

    • joe_tey83

Um… you are only realising NOW that she’s desperate to keep people talking about her?

    • NICHOLAS PASQUALE

I hate the way she holds her lips. This slightly puckered but still open so that part of my teeth show kind of thing. I mean I understand that some people’s lips ARE shaped like that but, clearly not her’s. The look, though? I can’t even try to lie and say that she looks bad. It’s beautiful and interesting as usual.

    • marilyn

Take away the shoes and my 75 year old grandmother would have worn that.  She bought her clothes at Penneys, and did a lot of home sewing.  In fact, she had dresses just like this. Is this really the direction Lady Gaga wants to take?

    • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

You say Steroid Picard, I say tattoo-less Nero. Still Star Trek though.

    • http://kittysdrawings.com Esz

She looks like a tripped out acid version of a 50’s wife in a house-coat …odd but cool

    • http://essays.tumblr.com/ Nicholas

Steroid Picard needs to hem his trousers.

    • Lisa Kramp

I’m always amazed at how well she wears things. I mean,  she’s so damn tiny and there’s not much of a figure there. If she’d worn normal size white stillettos, I would be standing and applauding.

    • AmeliaEve

I love the silhouette. With the hat it’s like a Dior New Look quote, but the delicate floral fabric takes it somewhere else. It’s unusual to see her in something so explicitly femmy. I think she’s channeling Marie Antoinette with a very broad wink.

    • ojosazules

Damn. Love it. That full length side shot is ravishing.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=746098172 Leigh Anne Statton

I always think she looks like she’s trying too hard.  PS –
I wanna know why she’s been on TLo’s nerves!

    • aristida_girl

hot ginger handler is gone?! I am heartbroken…

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Sierra-Delta/100003182924700 Sierra Delta

        HGH is gone?

*collapses in agony, rummages for a spare Methuselah of Champagne, and commences to mourn her great personal loss*

    • margaret meyers

I cannot stand The Big Valley sleeves with the big cuffs.  NOT graceful.

    • mbelchic

She looks stupid and you both know it-

      • http://www.tomandlorenzo.com/ Tom and Lorenzo

Sweetie, this is going to come as a terrible shock to you, but sometimes, people have opinions that are different than your own, and guess what? They’re NOT lying when they state them! I KNOW, right? God! It would be so much easier if we all just had the same opinion as you, mbelchic! But we don’t, and when you lash out like a petulant 5 year old when faced with opinions different than your own, it really kinda makes you look like a smacked ass.

        • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

Would you mind if I memorized this speech and used it someday?  It is so beautiful.

    • swissgirl

She is just so FABULOUS. I worship.

    • http://www.facebook.com/izzzyy Dixie Murphy Ross

I’d be more impressed/surprised/shocked if she wore flats. The platform shoes are boring, now.

      • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

Could you imagine the mass hysteria if one day she just showed up in a pair of Crocs?

        • http://www.facebook.com/izzzyy Dixie Murphy Ross

I would respect the shit out of her and then collapse in a fit of giggles!

    • guest2visits

I like what she did here too; I just wish she switched up the platforms abit.
She’s so pretty in this crazy little collection –  Is that vintage or some kind of couture dress?

    • jilly_d

I prefer Steroid Picard. *she said, under her breath*

      • alyce1213

Me too, much. And I’ll say it out loud.

    • AnneElliot

I don’t care about Gaga — WHAT HAPPENED TO HOT GINGER?????

I only read the Gaga posts to see him.  I’m crushed.

    • ChelseaNH

At this point, the most shocking thing she could do is step out in jeans and a T-shirt.  Which, as long as she doesn’t pair them with giant platform shoes, is okay by me.

    • kikisayshi

I kind of love her glasses.

    • quiltrx

The shoes are too much for me (but very her, so I can’t complain), but otherwise this is a really killer look!

And I would pretend to be really clumsy in said shoes, so Steroid Picard would have to catch me frequently.  You know, with his hands all over my upper body. :)

      • minnye

I wouldn’t need to pretend to be clumsy in those shoes!

        • quiltrx

          Honestly, I wouldn’t either! :)

    • uprightcitizen

Except for the shoes, are we really sure this isn’t a photo of Princess Anne, circa 1972?

      • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

        ROFL.  :)

    • LesYeuxHiboux

Um, I want that hat. I shall wear it while I engrave, and Zumba, and cook dinner, and wash the car…

This is a great look, and she actually managed something unexpected with it.

    • formerlyAnon

Not as slick and polished as she can be, but I like looking at it. Love from the neck up.

    • Call me Bee

Steroid Picard!  Ha!  Anyway–again I say it must be exhaursting to be her.  This look is so odd–made odder still by those butt-ugly white platforms.  Just silly.

    • glennethph

      But the shoes!

    • frankystein123

If nothing else, this is utterly original, but it’s also damn AWESOME.

    • nannypoo

This new guy is pretty intense and very hot. While I mourn the loss of HGH, this is an acceptable replacement.

    • http://twitter.com/dollsaga Dollsaga

wow, her hat looks just like my last year’s birthday cake. creamy white & pink roses!

    • another_laura

Well, I like this a lot and i also kind of like Steroid Picard (thank you for that, T!), even though I miss Hot Ginger Handler.

    • Patrick Shaner

she totally looks like Glenn Close in Dangerous Liaisons when she gets out of the carriage in her yellow traveling coat/dress and hat

    • http://www.facebook.com/bert.keeter Bert Keeter

      EVITA on Crack!

    • http://korilian.livejournal.com/ korilian

I’m imagining her trying to hobble across dam Square in those shoes or tragically getting her heel stuck in a tram track.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jessica-TallGirl-Freeman/1043623567 Jessica TallGirl Freeman

I don’t hate this. I do hate those shoes.

    • afabulous50

Love the looks – but she’s no Madonna.  Don’t go for second-best baby…

    • PeggyOC

Is HGH looking for a job?  I need someone to carry my bags and help me walk on impossibly high shoes.  Maybe to catch me when I stumble and then make intense eye contact and… (sorry, was I talking out loud?  I thought that was all internal daydream.  Whoops.)

    • BeeBeauNYC

Lordy that handler is HAWT, but bring back Hot Ginger Handler! Props to Steffi – she looks amazing.

    • Elias Pineda

      clown

    • janierainie

Just out of curiosity, where is she going?

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100002954344294 Inger Svensson

She looks fantastic and I love the shoes, but they’re not made for walking in Amsterdam.

    • DinahR

She went down the stairs in those shoes?   Wow.

    • http://twitter.com/cornekopia Shawn EH

When she and Madge kiss and makeup, it’ll spark both their careers.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Mary-Stone/100001328135240 Mary Stone

No word on who designed that 70’s era gunne sax throwback she has on?  I’m not feeling this one, sorry to say.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_F73LIJ3SJGI5AJQMXMWXCKILHI Pamela

      Maybe HGH is on holiday?

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_RHLSUVX3NCPB4OSS5BM7GZIXUE P. Capet

very royal family of the netherlands, very house of orange, beatrix-y.   love the thought and effort.  and the great close-up shot reminds me of that italian porn star who went to congress.  love it.   what i like about gaga when she does this sort of thing instead of the out-and-out costumes is that it’s so committed to the idea of character and place, like those early cindy sherman photos.

    • aeg66

a whiff??? More liking a freaking hurricane of desperation.

    • aeg66

& right now Queen Elizabeth is wondering where the hell her housecout is.

    • http://cheekypinky.wordpress.com/ Rebecca

      Fully awesome.
