Gwen Stefani in London

Posted on September 26, 2012

Except for the occasional bag, we swear we’ve never looked at any womenswear and wished we could wear it. No, really.

But Miss Gwen is lucky we’re not in London right now…

Gwen Stefani arrives in London via the Eurostar from Paris.

Kelly Wearstler Noir Batik-Twill Trenchcoat

Because we just might risk arrest to get that coat away from her.

One of the best things about Gwen’s personal style is that she’s somehow managed to remain true to her rocker chick aesthetic, even as she’s gotten older, and somehow managed to transition it into chic. Does that make any sense? In other words, we never look at her and think “Okay, Gwen. Time to start dressing your age.”  She manages to find these killer pieces, like this coat, and figures out a way to keep them looking chic while pairing them with Doc Martens and tights.

  •  Love it! and her!

  • Where is her bag, and who carries it for her? She looks amazing.  I recognized the batik white fabric, sort of, because I’m a quilter.  Nothing beats batiks for making an amazing quilt! Or a coat…

    • l_c_ann

Have you seen that particular batik anywhere?

  • fashionablylate

Still not a fan of the tights/leggings look, but she’s killing it.

  • If I could be anyone…

  • Shut the hell up!  Dayum, is that a great look.

  • It helps that she hasn’t aged a day since the late ninties.

    • PinkLemon

f’real. her skin looks ridiculously good here, too.

    • imspinningaround

Seriously.  Whatever work she’s had done in the face area has been exceptionally subtle and tasteful.

    • j_anson

Yeah, wow. I had to look up her age to see – would never have guessed she’s 42. And those are candid shots. Man.

      • I know, I mean she easily looks to be in her mid thirties, tops.

    • Ugh this so much. I’m 24 and I feel like I look older than her.

  • RocknRollmom

She is stunning.  And TLo has it exactly right. She has found the balance. Yes, the obvious answer is with money, stylists, trainers, etc. it isn’t hard.  But clearly that is not the case because this page exists and we all live for/and relish in the major fails.  My dreams of being a rock and roll singer generally focus on the voice and rocking of women like Chrissy Hynde or even the Queen herself, Aretha, but if I could “grow up” to look like one, Gwen would be it.  She is the only blonde I ever wish I could be.

  • RocknRollmom

And ok, maybe Charlize Theron or Cate Blanchett on the theatrical side.

  • Victoria Sharoyan

Well said. I was thinking the exact same thing this morning reading about her in the Metro and watching the No Doubt special that aired on E! the other night. She’s created such a defined personal style without ever seeming like she’s in a rut. Hell, No Doubt just released an album based on getting older and settling down with their families and it’s STILL crazy fun and badass. Gwen is hands down my style icon, in every sense of the word “style.” I hope I’m fortunate enough to age half as gracefully.

    • MilaXX

I’m impressed that No Doubt has been together for over 20 years and still appear to like each other and are still making good music. I think doing the solo projects was good for them.

  • Kayceed

I really like it when she gets a bit mod.

  • Apropos of nothing, I get so confused that the fuggirls next button points right and T.Lo’s points left. I love Gwen. I don’t particularly love this jacket but I love how she is wearing it and how she carries herself as a proper grownup woman.

  • Zippypie

Love this!  The Mod edge really works here.

  • mjude

    love the look!

  • MilaXX

Want the entire outfit.  This reminds me I need get to the Doc Marten store.  I found a pair of wing tip Docs I had back in college and sadly they are too tight for my 40 something feet to wear comfortably. I want a new pair for the winter.

    • littlemac8

I was just in Portland OR where Doc Martens originate and they have a new store front downtown with a big boot on the corner of the building.  I’m sad I didn’t get a picture!

      • MilaXX

I thought they originated in the UK? Why are they cheaper there?

      • xmixiex

        they’re german…

        • oops edit to say you’re right – they are German. Didn’t know that!

  • mmc2315

I want a (much less expensive) knock off version of that jacket!

  • Oh, how I do covet this look. Even if I could afford it, I couldn’t rock it like she’s doing. Brava, chica.

  • Judy_J

Fabulous trench.  Love, love, love it!

  • Susan Collier

So nice to see her wearing designers that are not her own brand. Love the coat. And I guess I’ve come to accept her as someone I respect—only because we’re the same age—because I find her music unlistenable.

  • VeryClaire

Love that coat. Makes me a little sad about the new trench I just bought which is cute, but no where near this killer.

  • I want the coat AND the cherry red doc martens.

  • If I had the nearly a grand that that coat costs it would be mine, mine, mine. I love Gwen’s personal style; she looks hip and fun, and like she doesn’t take herself too seriously while still managing to be chic.

  • Love it! Gwen has always been one of my favorite celebs, and I love her crazy sense of style – it really works for her.

  • She looks better the older she gets. Rockin’ coat.

  • I love her style, because she makes me think that I, with a little bit of money, could look like a cool rocker chick, too.

  • I find it strangely comforting that Gwen still wears Doc Martens. I still have my old high school era three hole green Docs in my closet. I’ve never been able to bring myself to get rid of them.

    • You are lucky. In a fit of “I am a grown up now” insanity, I got rid of my high school Docs. I am still kicking my own ass over that to this day. And she is wearing the very pair of Docs that once coveted.

    • mountainFashionista

In honor of this post, I’m going to dig out my 3-hole oxblood Docs.

  • kimmeister

Love that her big ol’ honkin’ sunglasses do not obscure her lovely eyebrows.

  • Joyce VG

    She’s so perfect.

  • CatherineRhodes

The reason she can keep her rocker chick look without veering into age-inappropriate territory is because she does not bare too much skin. The 40-somethings who haven’t figured this out just look desperate in their teeny skirts and plunging necklines. (Think the Jennifers: A and L.)

    • Kayceed

Yes – She always looks youthful, but not young, if that makes sense.

  • Lily-Rygh

  • Sara__B

Two of my never-boring favorites, Solange and Gwen, in one day!

  • quiltrx

That coat needs me, and I need it.  A number of sizes larger, of course.

It’s just not fair…she has all this AND Gavin.

  • Anathema_Device

She looks great. I adore that coat and her burgundy Docs.

  • joe_tey83

It helps that she doesn’t seem to age.

  • marilyn

This trenchcoat is made from twill.  That does not sound waterproof.

    • l_c_ann

“Stretchy cotton twill”  will only repel stretchy rain drops.

    • formerlyAnon

Whomever carries her purse will carry an umbrella.

  • She gets a WERQ from me.

  • That’s some pretty amazing street style.  She really is ageless.

  • Oh damn, she has my coat on.

  • Tamara Hogan

I finally figured out who she reminds me of – Catherine Deneuve in “The Hunger”…a gorgeous, ageless vampire, and I mean that as a supreme  compliment.

  • norseofcourse

Let’s hear it for crazy/cool Kelly Wearstler!
(My vision of Heaven is a Bravo reality competition featuring Kelly W. and China Chow!)

  • Looks great, love all of it. Love a girl that can still rock her Dr. Martens!

  • Also not aging helps a lot. Girlfriend has some vampire blood.

  • TieDye64

Dayum. THIS is how I want to look. Always.

  • sk8tfan

I don’t know what It is, but she’s got It. And I am not referring to Pennywise the Clown.

  • How can she walk in those shoes? 😉

  • God, I just love her!  There’s practically no look of hers that I haven’t been in love with, and this is just awesome!

  • MarissaLG

I DIE for Gwen Stefani (and in docs, no less?!)

  • Bozhi

I I ever “arrive in London,” that is how I would dream of doing it.

  • I think I prefer the jacket with the black paint spatters on it rather than the version the model’s wearing, but I’d take it either way.

  • Truly_Outrageous

Fuckin love this look from head to toe. I agree with you guys. She still has her personal style but manages to look chic. I can learn a thing or two from her cause Im getting older (well, as with all of us too :-p).

  • tsid2012

I have always had a ridiculus mad crush on her.  Not just because she is gorgeous and uber stylish in her own way but she does seem to have found the magic to be a super successful musician, celebrity and mom.  You NEVER read anything anywhere about her being inappropriate, drunk, assholey or fighting with anyone.  A real class act.  And if you ever get a chance to see her live, GO!  One of the absolute best shows I have ever seen.  I love that coat, BTW.  A little disappointed it’s a Kelly Wearstler look, she just annoys me.

  • aristida_girl

go gwinnie! rockin it, providing a reference point to ways to wear those things from my youth I just can’t give up…. still a rocker at heart, hanging out at the back wall of the high school, listening to no doubt….

  • elemspbee

did anyone else see No Doubt in Ellen’s show? the matching suit ensemble for the band was hot! Her suit was totally rocker chic. I want it.

  • guest2visits

She looks stunning, again.  I hate docs but she makes them work; along with all the other larger than life rocker gear
that she wears so very well.

  • xmixiex

sweet jesus i will never stop wanting to be her.

  • lilazander

Nothinhg new or different on her. Hate her as well–fake as hell–she has always been.
