Gant by Michael Bastian Spring 2013 Collection

Posted on September 18, 2012

Inspired by the Galapagos Islands, the Gant by Michael Bastian Spring 2013 collection is typically youthful, sexy, upbeat, colorful and casual. Let’s go shopping. But first, we need to answer the sudden need for a big, fruity cocktail.

    Cute, but hardly groundbreaking.

    • Rand Ortega

My thoughts exactly. The YSL safari homage (look 4) was nice, & the boy sweaters are cute; nice styling overall. Just fun active wear you can get at Urban Outfitters, American Eagle, Gap or Banana Republic.

      • j_anson

Exactly my thought. I could find all of this in my local mall.

  • call_me_schmeg

    abercrombie realness.

god, after today, you can leave the fruit part and give me some vodka straight from the bottle.

  • another_laura

Okay, I’m going to get my insufferable b***h pants on here.

Having actually traveled to the Galapagos Islands, I can say that these clothes have absolutely nothing to do with those islands other than being suitable for being on the equator.

    •  No, they wouldn’t work on the equator. Who would wear that many layers when the temperature is over 90 and the humidity is hitting 100 percent?

      • Meg0GayGuys6

Speaking of humidity… I love that the models’ hair looks like it is reacting to it like whoa.  Quite the attention to detail there haha

        • you’renotmysupervisor!!

snaps up for the “like whoa”

      • another_laura

FWIW Galapagos is not like Singapore and mostly pretty dry so layers just. might. work.  But you get what I mean.

    • j_anson

Yeah, it’s pretty clear that “Galapagos” is just code for, “We can’t just call it ‘safari,’ that’s been done too much. What’ll sound fresher?”

    • Cathy S

I was just thinking this. We went this summer and I’m not getting Galapagos at all.

  • hughman

Yikes. It’s like they took a frat-douche, a hipster and a big queen and blended them together like Jeff Goldblum in “The Fly”.

    “help me!”

  • VicksieDo

Too casual for me. I wear casual of course, but am not impressed by it in a fashion layout~~~

  • MilaXX

nah, I could look for less this entire collection at Target

  • snarkykitten

the chic homeless look for the rich & famous

  • Where are pants appropriate spring wear?

  • SapphoPoet

I dunno. These just look like clothes.

  • joolyz

the boy birkenstocks are making me feel pukey.

  • J D

    Cargo pants?  Really, Gant?

  • I actually like some of this: the ombre jeans in the center, the woman’s look 2nd from the bottom, and the woman’s camou tank with red cargo pants. I enjoy prep clothes!

  • ojosazules

Some of the men’s shorts are downright scary: the red ones in the first row with the dirty colored birkenstocks; the olive green ones in the 7th row with the hiking boots with no socks and the headband I could have lived my entire life without ever seeing. The only outfit that I actually like is the grey pants and jacket with the white shirt and red stacks. The rest is basic trustafarian.

i cant believe those things of high school are actually back–meaning: sweater thing w/ hood fourth row down, right. took almost an entire millennium but here they are. exactly as were, btw. although maybe they were blue.

    edited to add:
also i think they added the pretention stripes. this time meaning: the south or central americans who created the originals, proud of their handweaving, made sure the stripes all went the same way.

    •  Ugh, the drug rug!  Can’t you just smell the patchouli, cloves, stinky beater cars and cheap beer now?

  • LesYeuxHiboux

Wearable! I love the ladies shorts and cropped trousers, and the blazers for both genders. Some nice separates despite the grubby rich-hippie styling (my university was right up there with Reed and UC Berkeley for rich hippies).

  • marilyn

    Boring.  Next stop:  The Gap

  •   Did I see a pair of water buffalo sandals?!  LOVE them!  Also love the other flat sandals worn here.

  • save_the_hobbit

    ugh, the shoes…

  • random_poster

This is a collection? Really? The clothes are cute, but everything here can be picked up at any Macy’s, Gap, American Eagle, etc.

  • bitterk

decent enough but nothing special here

  • Not loving this at all.  It’s just so much beachy J Crew wear.

  • Zippypie

    Basic department store.

  • buddy100

Galapagos Islands my pasty Northwestern derriere. The title should be “Portland hipsters stylishly frozen in the headlights.”

  • quiltrx

Sorry, but most of this looks like it comes from the “clothes for douchebags of both genders” collection.

  • Fun for the younger set, I suppose, but it all looks very interchangeable.  I do like the sandals with the big “x” at the ankles.

  • everest19

All of this could be found at your local Old Navy.

    • Melvis Velour

      For a hell of a lot less….NEXT!

  • Christine Marie

It seems sort of Eurotrash goes to Jamaica. Not my favorite.

  • I likes the menswear more than the womenswear

  • Melvis Velour

Look #21 was kinda cute – the white norwegianesque sweater…probably would only work on that model who I’d also take…

  • Mall Clothes, Abercrombie and Fitch to be exact.

  • Coralie Legister

I can only see 2 models here that don’t look like they were stopped for a photo at the mall.

  • oohsparkley!

I was thinking Frat boy then …the Birkenstocks made me LOL. The coolest kids in school.

  • BigWhiteGrannyPanties

This collection looks sort of Ho Hum to me.  People in the Rockies have done some version of  dressing like this since the 90’s… perhaps it’s a new discovery for a designer to hit the chukka boots, peru/cotton sweater, cargo thing – but it’s pretty de rigeur here.

  • ccm800

I want about  75  percent of all the dudewear
