Emmys WERQ: Tina Fey in Vivienne Westwood

Posted on September 24, 2012

Miss Tina really has come into her own on the red carpet. It was only a couple years back that she had us screaming at our TV, “TINA FEY! What is WRONG with you?!?”

But those days seem to be gone forever:

Tina Fey attends the 64th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards in a Vivienne Westwood dress paired with Fred Leighton jewelry and a Roger Vivier clutch.

That is a fabulous color on her, the neckline is gorgeous, her hair looks fantastic and her accessories are fierce. There. We’ve run out of our favorite adjectives. That must make it a WERQ. Style snaps, girl. You finally made it.

And major kudos to her stylist, because who would think to put Tina Fey in Vivienne Westwood? A genius, that’s who.

  • I LOVE her ring with that dress. Love it. Jump through the screen and wrestle her ass to ground love. I’m still not sold on the boob horns, but she looks amazing so I can’t care too much.

    • Anne At Large

YES. It was “Very Nice …scroll scroll scroll.. I NEED THAT RING WOW.”

    • twocee

Boob horns just made me spit my coffee out.  Oh, and I agree, she looked amazing.

    • Le_Sigh

Boob horns!  I second the spit take – though mine was with soup.

I wonder if we can make a glossary for all the mamary-related satorial terms we have going on here.  Between tit-screpancy and boob horns I know we’re missing quite a few.

      • Spicytomato1

Side boob? Babyheads? Do those count?

        • Sara LaBatt

OT, but my 5 year old says babyhead all the time.  I think it’s an insult, like you are such a babyhead, but I think of you all every time!

        • Le_Sigh

YES!  Also tit-banners, boob-curtains, and anything that makes your boobs have eyes – which I can’t really think of a clever moniker for yet.

          • Whever

“The eyes are the nipples of the face!”

  • Gorgeous. Glad she’s given up on the tea-length full-skirted jobs. They didn’t do her any favours at all.

    • Amen to that! This dress is perfect for her in every way.

  • She does look great! I was thinking that she needed a necklace, but realized that even a delicate one would be too much with this neckline and earrings. Perfect as is!!

Also, she’s clearly wearing some serious heels, because she was about a foot taller than her wee hubby.

  • One of my favorite looks for sure. She just looks so polished!

    • S_Swift

I completely agree. This was a favorite of mine as well. So she didn’t win the Emmy; she looks fab!

    • Spicytomato1

Agree. Especially the hair. That is one perfect updo.

  • Rc

Every time I see this picture I think I’m seeing Wynona Ryder instead.

    • dschubba

Just the other week, I saw a pic of Winona at some event and mistook her for Tina.

    • boomchicabowwow

If I were Tina and saw your comment, I’d be SQUEEing all over my breakfast!

  • xmixiex

i was SO excited to see her looking so fierce!!  she finally figured it out!

  • FINALLY Tina Fey not standing in a hole in the ground covered in navy taffeta.  BRAVA!

  • LuxuryLime

This may be the only Westwood that I’ve ever loved. She looks like a million bucks.

  • halleygee

Wow, agree, she looks amazing! Love the color of the gown.

  • I’m shocked in the most amazing way possible.

  • I squealed when I saw Tina on the RC last night.  I adore this color and shape on her.  Also, everything else is freaking fabulous.  Personal best for her, and definitely WERQ worthy.

  • Nancy Williams

I think Vivienne Westwood plays well on women who have a naturally hourglass-y shape, and this is the perfect example.  My favorite of last night.  That color is IT.

    • Chickadeep

Westwood doesn’t cut patterns, she drapes fabric and cuts right on a dress form. Since she tends to love that hourglass-ey silhouette anyway (it’s been a staple of her work forever), her stuff looks better on hourglass (rather than stick-straight) women and it drapes in all the right ways on them.

      • Nancy Williams

That really explains a lot–thanks so much for the information!

        • Chickadeep

She also does a lot of corseting, which emphasizes the hourglass. For years, she also did exaggerated bustles (still does, for some clients; see Helena Bonham-Carter). 🙂

          • boomchicabowwow

Too many people identify Westwood as “that crazy 60’s/70’s designer” without understanding that she was a visionary not just because of her design esthetic, but because she was designing for a metric SHIT-TON of different female body types.  As evidenced by Ms. Fey’s impeccable gown.

  • HOT DAMN. I think my favorite part of this dress is the FIT – it’s perfection!

  • janetjb

  • filmcricket

The only thing I’m not sold on is the earrings, and her make-up looks a bit unblended under her right eye, but otherwise this is fabulous. I love that she’s one of the few actresses over 40 who hasn’t succumbed to the need to outline her whole eye in black kohl – other ladies of Hollywood, take note! So much more flattering!

  • OH 2 The Em of Geez!
    Brava Tina!!

    • She looks perfect! So perfect that she’s making brown eyes look covet-worthy – is it the dress color or the makeup or both? And that silhouette? Overall, to borrow a phrase from The Dan Patrick Show (which does not get quoted enough on this site), “Bang Biscuit”!!! (It’s jock for werq)

      • And the built in corest of the dress is giving her some serious va va voom.

        •  Oh yes indeedy it is!

        • filmcricket

I think she’s naturally got some va va voom, although I agree the dress is helping. She’s said in previous interviews that it’s her German self-discipline that keeps her Greek hips from getting too … Greek, I guess.

        • boomchicabowwow

And that’s the kind of VA-VOOM these celebs should expect from these pricey designer pieces!  Sometimes I think the average starlette doesn’t know how awesome a piece this expensive should be…so they go along with whatever excuse the design house proffers.

  • crackineggs

Don’t usually like that colour, but it is beautiful on her.  Love the draping of the bodice.  Love her!

  • Catiline

LOVE IT.  Everything is flawless and man, her figure is killer.

  • crash1212

You know, most of the dresses I LOVED were Vivienne Westwood last night. Of all of them, this was the one I loved the best. Miss Tina and her stylist were perfection. WERQ indeed.

  • I almost want to say its not that she looks so fantastic (and she does) but how far she has come! I am not a fashion-guy but gods…some of the crap she used to wear made *ME* cringe…way to go Tina (‘s stylist/minions/handler/gays/whatever)

  • Anathema_Device

Yes! I love this so much. Simple but the color, fit, and detailing make fr a big impact. She looks stunning but still looks like herself.

  • I’ve always thought the distinctive Vivienne Westwood silhouette would look better on the very slender, rather than Hendricks, Dennings et al on whom it always seemed slightly too much, and this proves it.

  • I DIED when I saw this last night, she looks SO gorgeous. Actually, sort -of makes me believe that commercial she’s in where she’s flipping her hair and acting like an ingenue.

  • Pants_are_a_must

Here’s the truth about Vivienne Westwood: People always say she is curves-friendly, but who’s the best Vivienne Westwood-wearing star out there? Impossibly tiny Helena Bonham-Carter. I’m not surprised that equally-tiny Tina Fey looks great in her designs.

And yes, it’s a WERQ simply because it’s a personal best for Fey.

    • Nigella Lawson rocks Vivienne Westwood and she is certainly curvy.

      • Pants_are_a_must

        • MilaXX

Brit lady chef and very curvy gal

          • Pants_are_a_must

            …..great for her?

          • TAGinMO

Oh,[email protected]_are_a_must:disqus , you wound me. But by the same token, I’m excited for you because you get to experience the joy of discovering my girl Nigella for the first time. She’s this wonderful, greedy, hedonistic creature who loves to cook, loves to eat, and talks about food like she’s talking about sex. The original “food porn,” if you will.

Her shows Nigella FeastsNigella Express, and Nigella Kitchen air weekdays, mid-afternoon on the Cooking Channel. I don’t think her original show, Nigella Bites, airs anymore. But in any event, search for “Nigella” on your cable/DirecTV and DVR everything you find.

          • Pants_are_a_must

Sorry, I’m not one for the cooking shows. Between the fangirl vomit over Anthony Bourdain around me and Mario Batali actually spitting chewed food into Jon Stewart’s mouth, I’m really not very attracted to this world. The closest I get to it is when I read the “Gordon Ramsey poetry” tumblr because it’s just that funny.

          • TAGinMO

Seriously, if you find Bourdain and Batali (or really virtually any other food/cooking show) off-putting, Nigella is perfect for you. Give her a shot.

          • theblondette

Nigella is actually way smaller than she appears on tv – she’s a UK 8-10 (US 6-8).

          • MilaXX

I could see that, still her proportions are quite curvy and in a world of size 0’s she looks larger on tv. I love Nigella and how much she seems to enjoy food.

          • TAGinMO

I say this as one of her biggest fans, but no WAY is Nigella a US 6-8 below the waist anymore. I went to her reading here in town when she released her Christmas cookbook a couple of years ago. She’s still as beautiful and sexy as ever, but baby’s got substantial back these days, and takes great pride in it.

  • I just loved this, so looks so beautiful.

  • TAGinMO

It makes me absurdly happy to see her looking so good on an RC…after so, so many WTF moments.

    Remember the sanitation-worker jumpsuit?

You’ve come a long way, baby.

  • dress_up_doll

This was my absolute favorite of the whole evening. Tina looks pretty satisfied with the results as well as confident and sexy.
    Go, Tina!!!

  • One of my favorites of the evening!

  • snarkykitten

I hate the bodice. I hate that bodice on anyone. Pointy tit cups.

  • Little_Olive

That is the best I have seen her look. I felt for her having so much trouble walking in it (alongside John Hamm, no less, who simply glides), but I gay-gasped when I saw her -and I’m straight. That is HER dress.

  • afabulous50

She looks great – but she always seems to be smiling apologetically on the RC – like she’s not certain she should be there.

  • sweetestsith

She looks GORGEOUS, and I want to steal her dress.  Beautiful color, and I love the neckline.

  • ChaquitaPhilly

    Upper Darby Rules! Go TINA!

  • raeb23

    she looks gorgeous.
love that dress. alas, i wish i could afford it!

  • “T Lo rule: If your outfit is revealing your tanline, then your outfit is tacky.”  Beautiful dress but the top is a smidge low.

  • She looks amazing! I love everything about the dress- the color, the shape, the fabric- so gorgeous!

  • msdamselfly

WOW I think the bustline is really unflattering

  • Full-on spectacular. I hope she was able to breathe, but if not…it was a sacrifice worth making on the altar of awesome.

  • MilaXX

This is a WERQ I completely agree with. Every detail is spot on perfect.

  • Sobaika

I think there should be a new category on TLo – Personal Best as opposed to WERQ. I mean sometimes they overlap, but if I’d never seen Tina Fey before I would think she looks really good, and knowing what Tina Fey has worn in the past bumps it up to THANK YOU HIGH HEAVENS

  • Wow, that is a gorgeous dress. I love the colour – it looks like the most decadent raspberry sorbet ever. I want to lick my screen. And damn, girl has some creamy skin. Beautiful, top to toe.

  • Megan Patterson

    That riiiiinnnng!

  • BazoDee

  • PeggyOC

When she’s done with that dress, it can come to my closet.  I promise to take it out and show it a good time.

  • Damn. That is a REALLY hard neckline to pull off. So much could have gone wrong. But it looks perfect on her.

  • SapphoPoet

She looks wonderful. I LOVE the jewelery–strong without being overpowering.

  • Perfection. So far we’re on exactly the same wavelength with the outfits from last night.

  • Sharyn McHenry

    Must have that ring.

  • The bf was baffled at how much I kept saying “I’m shocked – Tina Fey looks AMAZING!” This is pretty much the best thing I’ve ever seen her in – just gorgeous, head to toe.

  • pookiesmom

  • mjude

she looks great but she always  seems like she doesnt like to play dress up

  • withbreaththatisbaited

Yay! A well-deserved WERQ for my favorite funny lady! I was a little afraid when I heard she was wearing Vivienne Westwood and audibly let out a sigh of relief when I caught a glimpse of her when she arrived.

Also, the bit she and Jon Hamm when they presented was one of the few highlights of the night, so she deserves a WERQ all around!

  • Scimommy

I keep thinking of that line from Bossypants where she describes her boobs as “not so big” but that they can be hoisted up “for parades”. Well done, Tina!

  • jw_ny

I agree that Tina looks fab…just thought the bust line was an inch too low, although I do love the shape, band, and folds.  Her accessories, hair, makeup are perfect.

  • She did look amazing and even comfortable!  I have a quibble with her makeup, which I thought was too understated, but not enough to be really distracting.  WERQ indeed!

  • Candigirl1968

    Oh so right. WERQ!!!!

  • gabbilevy

One hell of a gorgeous dress on woman equal to it. Gasped a little when I saw her in this last night.

  • juliamargaret

  • slightlybitterkitten

  • PinkLemon

she srsly looks SLAMMIN. that BOD. geez.

  • luluransom

My favorite look of the evening. Agree re putting her in Vivenne Westwood, boys. Genius.

  • ChristinaRi

Fabulous!   The jewel tone is so great for her.

The dress is beautiful and her body looks insanely great.

  • kschwarting

Aw, she’s my girl crush.  Don’t love the hair, but she looks amazing.

  • Judy_J

Oh, Tina! You’ve come so far….and we’re so proud!

  • Zippypie

This was the WERQ of the night!  I actually shouted “About time!” at my tv.  She werqed the shit out of everything – dress, accessories, hair.  You go, gf!!!

  • She looks fabulous, from head to toe. Confident, comfortable, beautiful, and well-groomed. I love that color. What a great shape she has, too! this gown makes the most of her lovely body.

  • mmc2315

Perfect for her curves.  Agreed about the color.  Nice!

  • Araina23

Just love the color on her.

  • unbornfawn

Girl looks fierce. I agree wholeheartedly with the WERQ!

  • MzzPants

  • Trisha26

Totally agree, TLo. One of my faves of the evening, if not the best.

  • Dhammadina

She looks great. But isn’t that kind of a single ribbon breast banner?

  • thewitofthestaircase

I’m so happy to see Miss Tina FINALLY look so spectacular on the RC. I think she’s been Liz Lemon-ing herself for a long time… it’s nice to see her serving HOT BITCH.

  • AnnPopovic

This was my favorite of the night.

  • EEKstl

    Yay, Tina!

  • Judy_S

WERQ was my thought exactly when I saw her.

  • elirt

  • Call me Bee

Absolutley (I had to hit the thesaurus to find more adjectives…) exquisite and resplendent.  Just beauitful.

  • e jerry powell

In the battle of the Palins, this battle goes to Palin #1.  Beats the shit out of Electric Urine Yellow, no?

  • Oh goodie. Totally agree on this one. Stunning!

  • Victoria Sharoyan

I was ready to question this WERQ until I saw the pictures. This color reads SO much more vibrantly in photos than it did on screen. Beautiful.

  • Larkin21

Wow! Just perfection! I love every last bit of this look. Almost as much as I love Tina Fey.

  • I love love love her. She is smart, elegant and pretty. I ADORE HER in this dress.

  • I’m ready for my Oscar-winning dramatic role, Mr. DeMille.

  • VRuss

I hate the neckline… But I hate it in general. Tina looks great!

  • Lilak

Trophy, schmophy!  Your Emmy night is just about perfect if you win the WERQ stakes + execute the best presenting bit (Fey and Hamm need to do this more often).

  • neofashionista

Fabulous but I wondered if it was just a bit too small

  • carpediva

Her figure looks UH-MAZING as well. So pleased for Ms. Tina!

  • Come to think of it, I could totally see her in a bustle.

  • Nonmercisansfacon

Gorgeous. Couldn’t be more proud of her and Amy.

  • Qitkat

Now THIS I agree on. Spectacular.

  • frannyprof

Agree. My absolute FAVE of the night. Julianna Margulies (sp?) came in a close second with her gorgeous brocade dress.

  • But but but… there is clearly an enormous cat hiding in her dress, to judge from that neckline.  Everything else is lovely, but I really can’t get behind the cat ears.

  • j_anson

  • Sara__B

  • emcat8

Wow, I am so thrilled to see one of my favorite people in the world wearing such an amazing outfit and looking so, just, shut it down fabulous.

  • librarygrrl64

Gorgeous!!! Coveting that ring and those bracelets!!!

  • kimmeister

Would’ve loved a slightly strong lip color, but everything else is fantastic.

  • “No, I don’t have anything to put on my fancy new boob shelf, but I do love it!”

  • guest2visits

I thought she looked really great in this; the dress has such an elegant style.

  • Hail to the T! Knocked it out of the park!

  • formerlyAnon

She’s always been the lovely woman in the Not Quite Right dress (or the lovely woman in the stultifyingly dull dress) and now she is the lovely woman in the lovely dress.

Or maybe – “that beauty over there.”  It’s why we try to get it right.

Her jewelry works very well with that band at the top of the bodice. Great color, great fit.

  • ccm800

a WERQ for FEY! Are piggies flying? she does look great.  A personal best maybe?

  • Corsetmaker

  • Lisa Kramp

She looked faaaaaaabulous. And yes, I would knock her down for that ring, too!

  • I. DIE.

  • OMG!  This is so amazing on her, just perfect!

  • bellafigura1

WOW, and yeah, Viv and Tina are an inspired match.

  • betorah

Tina’s waist looks so tiny in this dress that I think she’s channeling the 19th century.

  • Alyson Lamble

The dress is great.  Her visible tan lines are not.

  • siriuslover

It is a gorgeous color on her. I’m of two minds on the neckline, though. But overall, I love it.

  • LambeeBaby

Love Tina Fey and she looks OUTSTANDING! Beautiful color and silhouette.

  • Loudoun Family

Vivienne Westwood is a classy designer, hands down.  This is the best I’ve seen Tina, so something clicked here.

  • MaryAtRealityTea

    AMAZING! She looks beautiful.
