Emmys WERQ: Jessica Pare in Jason Wu

Posted on September 24, 2012

Miss Jessica is serving something up; something we see on the red carpet all too rarely:

Jessica Pare attends the 64th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards in a Jason Wu dress paired with Bulgari jewelry and a Christian Louboutin clutch.

It’s a simple look (in comparison to the many “LOOK AT ME!” looks found on the average awards show red carpet), but it quietly demands your attention. Maybe not head-turning like some of the more outrageous dresses of the night, but definitely beautiful.

You WERQ that Grace Kelly shit, girl. Eleganza snaps!

Y’know, I could get nitpicky with the dress–there are things about the bodice and strap I don’t love–but the overall effect is so lovely that I don’t care to. If that’s not a WERQ, I don’t know what is.

    • LondonMarriott

Totally agree – the dress itself is not my favorite and that strap is… weird.  But the overall effect is (to reuse your word because it’s so fitting) absolutely lovely.  The styling is spot on too, her makeup, hair and jewelry are so minimal, but work together to create major elegance.  Sigh… glamour.

      • Her hair and make up seal the look for me, the dress is blah (I’m not mad at it though) but her posture and that profile picture are amazing!

  • MilaXX

It’s not giving mr Grace Kelly. Just looks like a nice dress with good makeup

    • hero21

      More Ava Gardener..

      • Lori

And Ava Gardener was gorgeous, so I’d call that a win for Ms Pare.

      • MilaXX

        I could see that

      • That’s what I just posted, too!

        • I immediately thought young Elizabeth Taylor, myself.. but she’s definitely more Ava than Grace, I agree. Either way, it’s hard to disagree with this WERQ..

  • My first reaction to these pictures was to say out loud ‘WOW’. She looks untouchable and gorgeous.

  • Sobaika

A cool tall drink of water. WERQ!

    • Sobaika

And also, THIS is the type of look the former Mrs. Draper (January Jones) should shoot for. I get that she likes to do edgy, but she would look sublime in an icy and elegant look such as this.

    • Yup! She looks amazing, especially in that torso-profile shot (3rd down) that is some “classic beauty” stuff right there. Aside directly to Jessica: can I, pretty please, have that ring? :O

      • That’s my favourite picture too, I actually said “Hello Grace Kelly!” out loud while I was scrolling down.

  • Damn her and her fantastically long neck…

    • EEKstl

RIGHT???? First thing I noticed.  Sooooooo jealous.

  • eowyn_of_rohan

Lovely.  I wish I could get a better look at that ring.

    • YES – from what I can see I want it!

    • filmcricket

Agreed, if anyone sees a close-up photo, please link!

  • lizzybef

Her eyebrows deserve an award of some sort. They are magnificent.

    • I was just about to say something similar. The overall look is great, and her eyebrows are spectacular!

  • piecesofconfetti

    Simple Hollywood glamor. Love it.

  • theblondette

    She looks phenomenal.

  • Vanja

She looks amazing. Less is more done right always works. I covet her ring, it’s gorgeous.

  • jenno1013

Best hairstyle of the night and the earrings are perfect.  The black belt keeps it firmly out of bridal.

  • Pants_are_a_must

Beautiful and elegant, but lacking charisma. Just like her character in Mad Men.

  • jackie cohen

She looks gorgeous but her mouth still bothers me ….

    • The red lipstick doesn’t help matters any.

  • teensmom99

Now we know why she had to wear that other Jason Wu dress–he made her take  both dresses and she was willing to do anything to get this one.  Perfection.

  • ChristinaRi

I loved this dress on the red carpet.  It moved beautifully.    I’m sorry we didn’t see more of it.

I think she and Tina Fey may have been my favorites.

    • PinkLemon

tina fey might be the most memorable. she looked PERFECTION.

  • LeSourire

LOVE the hair and makeup – the dress is rather standard and not really note-worthy. All of the heavy lifting is being done from the neck up, but I do agree she looks fabulous.

  • colleenjanel

The dress itself is nothing spectacular. But the sum of all parts is impeccable. The dress, the hair, the makeup, the jewelry, the accessories … all together it just SINGS!!!

    • littlemac8

Can I just say the JEWELRY!!!  I wish I had a neck long enough to wear those diamonds!!  Spectacular!  And the ring must have a pretty price tag, too!

  • Her head is stunning. Her dress is boring.

  • Monabel

True. And you cannot be elegant when your clothes are too tight.

  • ChaCha_70

    She personifies “modelesque” here. Gorgeous!

  • Dhammadina

Thank you for all these great Emmy posts. You must be working your fingers to the bone.

  • This is very pretty and classically elegant, but there’s something about Jessica Pare that slightly irritates me, and I can’t quite put my finger on it.

    • hero21

      Could it be ….no personailty??

  • MzzPants

    She’s such a beauty.

  • janetjb

Everything is quite flattering and understated.

  • Mirakel9

  • When I saw this photo coming off the wire, my first thought was, surely TLO will give this a WERQ? Snaps, indeed.

  • Elizabeth Weems

This was my favorite look of the night. Just stunning.

  • Classic. I can hear January Jones gnashing her teeth from here.

  • mhleta

This woman could be rather average looking if she didn’t have such incredible grace. She knows just how to make the most of that cool gaze and sculpted jawline. And that Neck! Somewhere Rita Hayworth is smiling.

    • In_Stitches

She was WORKING that neck, posing like a champ in front of those cameras.  It looked like she summoned an extra inch and a half of grace on command.

    • roadtrip1000

Average?! She has fantastic bone structure, and beautiful skin and hair. Where I live she would have to gain 50 lbs to look anywhere near average (and I say that as an average looking person).

  • DaveUWSNYC

    Style, taste, quality…Tim would approve.

  • Sarah Thomas

    Audreybot 2: Electric Boogaloo

  • kaycem

i just really, really don’t like her so every time i see her, i just roll my eyes.  i can’t even pay attention to the blah-ness she’s serving up b/c i’m too busy throwing shade.

    • BelladonnaRising

I can’t stand here either. What is it about her that’s so irritating? I can’t put my finger on it…

      • kaycem

her face maybe?  lol i’m kidding, but for me, i get the sense that her casting as megan was done b/c she is so much like that character.  and that character is fucking annoying so.

  • EEKstl

Tasteful, elegant perfection.  LOVE her hair.

  • Fordzo

Bitch arrived on the red carpet at the PERFECT time.  Look at the light, and how the red of the carpet reflects up onto her face.  Gorgeous.

  • Breathtaking.

  • Myra C

What TLO said.  She looks gorgeous.

  • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

    JP for the win!!!  WERQ!!!

  • Dot

Her features and bone structure so remind me of Jane Birken.

  • mjude

she looks vintage fab.  but i have no idea who she is.

  • janierainie

Agree agree agree! She should be on a pedestal somewhere.

  • msdamselfly

I agree  However, I wish the lip color was a little  less orange

  • Kim_W60

She looks beautiful.   Sometimes simplicity is best.

  • elirt

In the side shot you *know* it’s a star, not just someone in a pretty dress – classic and elegant. Wow! Well done!

  • Amy

She goes with that dress like pb goes with jelly. It makes for a beautiful treat!

  • TheDivineMissAnn

Yep.  Old school red carpet there.

  • snarkmeister

Maybe it’s just that I’m completely OVER the one-shoulder bodice thing, but this dress is a yawn and a half.  Miss Jessica herself looks stunning (hair, makeup, jewelry), but the dress is a throwaway.

  • Snailstsichr

Hair and makeup are just stunning. Dress and jewelry are lovely on her.

  • ThaliaMenninger

I’m saying Ava Gardner instead of Grace Kelly, but it’s definitely working for her.

    • Dagney

It’s kind of….if Ava Gardner was teaching Grace Kelly a lesson.  Like, Ava was saying to Grace, “Oh please, you twee princess!  THIS is how you do it!”

      • I”m in with the Ava Gardner crowd!

  • efishfan

Gorgeous! I wish more actresses went for this kind of look.

(Waiting with baited breath (anchovies on my lunch salad, lol) for the TLo discussion of Heidi’s Emmys gown.)

  • nancylee61

I saw this elsewhere, and I couldn’t get over that Old Time  Hollywood Glamor feel about her in this dress! Gorgeous!!

  • Call me Bee

An elegant woman does not let her dress puddle on the floor.

  • Old Hollywood awesomeness. Wow.

  • Elizabetta1022

I love the idea of “Eleganza Snaps.” It actually caused me to do flamenco dancer snaps in front of the computer. Also sounds like a drag queen name. She would so have bested Origami Rose during a “lip synch for your lives” dance off on RuPaul’s Drag Race.

  • Daniel Hoerner

That third picture of her is STUNNING.

  • I swear I yelled ELEGANZA! before I even scrolled down. Gentlemen, you have me well schooled.

  • Ryan Williamson

I think the lipstick’s too orange.

  • Lilak

A lesson in how establishing an aura can sell a look — indeed, in this case to overcome an elegant-but-unremarkable dress.  Mr. Wu seems not to have put much effort into the ‘custom’ design: This looks for all the world like the rough outline version of FLOTUS’s inaugural gown.

But her carriage and presentation elevate the whole deal.  Love the profile and semi-profile especially!

P.S. That lip color is generally fine in person — it just photographs appallingly.

  • you’renotmysupervisor!!

I’d prefer a blue-based red lip, this one makes her teeth look really yellow. BUT, I still gasped and did a happy dance at first and last sight. Simply elegant and glamourous.

  • Larkin21

Gorgeous. That 3rd shot is particularly amazing. Perfect light, perfect face, perfect everything.

  • Daniel Hoerner

The third picture down is giving me LIFE.

  • neofashionista

Love love love! Absolute perfection! And she sure does give good face

  • L.

I think she looks beautiful.  I also liked Julianne Hough’s hair.  How come the retro hair is okay for Jessica but not Julianne?

  • She’s very model-esque: she can really transform from look to look amazingly.

  • Am I the only one who wants to see Michelle Obama in this dress. I know Jason Wu is one of her go-to designers so it’s not like this would be a stretch for her. But I think she would rock this in a completely different, yet equal, way.

  • crash1212

Next to Tina Fey, this was my favorite look of the evening.

  • carpediva

    STUNNING, full stop.  WERQ-worthy!

  • Sara__B

F lawless. I usually don’t like one shouldered gowns, but this woman looks stunning.

  • fringebenefit

    Hands-on favorite of the night.

  • librarygrrl64

She’s not my favorite, but she looks stunning here.

  • fwooper

Are you kidding me? This was the most boring generic safe look of the night. She has no attitude no personality. Just blah.

  • If you combined Grace Kelly, with a young Coco Chanel, you’d get her. I liiiiiiiiive

  • Zippypie

    Gorgeous!  Love the simplicity.

  • Where you said “Elegance”, I said “Class”.  She looks quietly stunning.  Nice job!

  • I was utterly speechless when I saw she was on TIME’s Worst Dressed List. I almost threw my computer in rage. They said it was too simple. LOOK AT HER. She looks freaking fantastic!

  • GTrain

If she had just kept her mouth closed it would have been perfect for me.

  • ccm800

ladylike really stands out in a sea of dragadogio fame sucks

  • My only quibble, and this has nothing to do with the woman or the dress, is the positioning of the celebs. Can’t they be moved over a skosh so they don’t all look like they have a giant yellow bird coming out of their heads? Please?

  • quiltrx

I REALLY love her hair, and those earrings are perfect.  Some minor quibbles with the dress, but overall very stunning.

  • guest2visits

Such a graceful silhouette; she’s really adding the beauty to the dress.

  • kcarb1025

I have learned not to expect much from all Mad Men girls because they ALWAYS disappoint, so my jaw literally fell open when I saw that this was Jessica when E! put the camera on her. WERQ indeed!!! Absolute grand slam, Miss Pare!

  • warontara

Try as I might, I just can’t get worked up about this look one way or another. She looks great, but that isn’t hard for her. It’s an overall meh.

  • bitterk

    Understated elegance.  I love it.

  • Ava Gardner just sat up in her grave and said, “DAAAAMN, girl!”  Glamour girl perfection!

  • bellafigura1

Stunning, although her lip color is a bit too day-glo for me.  Everything else is perfection.

  • lesmaha

    that’s amazing!!

  • Indeed! Eleganza, can that be her new nick-name?

  • Jessica Goldstein

This is the gown Morena Baccarin (?)  should have worn. When you are blessed of face, hair, and figure as those two are, simple elegance will work every time.

  • carlareno

She looks majestic and amazing. Picture no. 4 is perfection.

  • horrible skin.

  • Boring.

  • Kaye Evans

Nobody has commented on the similarity of this Jason Wu sillouette and the famous Michelle Obama inaguration gown…..

    • No, she doesn’t. That’s what normal, healthy teeth used to look like before people started bleaching them to unnatural and enamel-destroying shades of white.

  • h2olovngrl

She doesn’t look like she is posing on the red carpet.  She looks like she is modeling.  Her skin is beautiful, her hair and make-up are flawless.  She looks like a finished photograph, where no retouches were neccessary

  • laurenoodle

There is something about her I don’t like, not sure what it is. Also I wish she would close her mouth, it really bugs me when people have their lips slightly parted with teeth hanging out.

  • Warmheartedgirl Seattle

Old school glamour – what a gorgeous woman in a gorgeous dress!  Snaps is right!  Love the hair and makeup, jewelry is beautiful.
