Emmys IN or OUT: Nicole Kidman in Antonio Berardi

Posted on September 24, 2012

We unreservedly loved this the second we saw it, but many, many twitter-peeps vehemently disagreed.

Nicole Kidman attends the 64th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards in an Antonio Berardi dress paired with Fred Leighton jewelry.

Antonio Berardi Fall 2012 Collection/Model: Irina Nikolaeva

Those twitter-peeps are crazy. We actually love it more with the jacket, but we understand it was literally something like 120 degrees on the red carpet and we may be bitches, but we’re not cruel, inhumane bitches, so we understand why she opted to leave the jacket at home.

Wow. Keith Urban is wearing ladyheels and she still towers over him.

Anyway, we could see having some quibbles; like with the shape the sequins make and how she now has glittery vagina wings, or her somewhat depressing strappy sandals. Or you might note that her hair is back to looking fried. We wouldn’t dream of arguing with you on any of those points, but the overall effect is stunning and yes, we gay-gasped when we first saw her. To us, this is a WERQ with some reservations, but it seems people other an us are going to ruin things by having different opinions, so fine. Let’s hear them.

Vote Now!

IN! She is an ice goddess!

OUT! She looks like she’d shatter if she bumped into something.

Like Raymond, everyone loves Hailee Steinfeld, and pretty much everyone loved her cute little t-shirt-and-cocktail-dress getup (although some thought her way too young for the look), voting it IN.

IN, IN, IN. That ice blue/white combo is stunning.

  • SuzBald

I like it better with the jacket, too – but from a distance, all you could see was Nicole in the audience.  It was a standout, and a beautiful one at that.

    • Sobaika

I’m not sure a jacket would translate well on a red carpet (although it’s to die and if anyone can, Nicole can). The overall look is most certainly an IN.

      • EveEve

Plus it was a bazillion degrees in LA yesterday.  Big IN from me.  They were in the front row and the white of her dress just shone against the sea of tuxedos and dark dresses.

  • Definitely an IN. I loved it from the moment I saw it. When I saw it up close, I wished that maybe the beading wasn’t so heavy on the bodice, but altogether I think she looked stunning.

  • It’s not something I’d pick, but it isn’t horrific. It’s eye-catching, and that’s the point of a dress on the RC. IN

  • What I’m more disturbed by, is when looking at the shape defined by the sequins, the negative space shape between her legs is rather, um, piston-like. (ahem)  I can’t un-see it.
That said, I’m going with IN. Even though her pursed lipped, “I think you’re a douche, but I’m too ladylike to say so” smile is starting to annoy me.
I do, at the end, love the color of the sequin decoration on her. Perfect.

    • Oh no.  She does have a, um, piston.  Her sequinned vagina-wings are cradling a negative-space piston.

    • Just say it. Phallic skyscraper.

    • Winter_White

      Masterful deployment of a euphemism.

    •  See, I got all crass. All I can see is an “Insert dick here” sign.

    • Call me Bee

Yeah–it’s there.  The sequin design below the waist may have been good on paper, but looks awkward on the body.  If they’d been all filled in it would have looked like an apron.  Not good, either.  And no embellisment below the waist would made for a boring skirt.  IDK–mabe a scattering on the skirt…?  I say OUT, still.

  • **IN**

I love it – gorgeous dress!

  • I’m having a tough time with this one because that blue thing looks like one of those iron-on rhinestone patterns you find at the craft store.  However, I did gasp when I saw it, so that counts for something. Bitch can work a vagina wing like no other. IN.

  • Patricia Gillett

IN. This is very much her wheelhouse. The color and cut suits her very well. The jacket would have been overkill UNLESS she was nominated for an award herself, then it would have been diva-tastic and spot on.  And props to Keith Urban. I can’t even wear heels that high! Hope he was sitting for most of the night. T

    • LadyJazzmine

She was nominated, but didn’t win.

  • MoHub

Love it, except that the skirt makes it look as if she has no hips. Love it with the jacket even better, and I’m sure the AC in the theater was running.

So who’s shorter: Keith Urban or Tom Cruise?

    • megohd

Good Question! I see Tom Cruise listed as 5’7″. Seeing multiple heights for Keith—5’8.5″ and 5’10”. I actually would have thought TC was taller, because KU looks truly wee to me.

      • It’s probably because of KU’s hair – it just looks so heavy on him.

  • She looks regal, valkyrie-like..IN

  • It’s fine. More IN than OUT, but I’m not crazy about it.

  • Judy_S

IN! how smart Tom and Lorenzo are to know a goddess when they see one. And where else would a goddess wear he wings?

  • I love it, HOWEVER I think that is because it reminds me of Agnetha’s cat dress (Abba reference, for those of you who don’t remember the 70s).

  • She needs to be a redhead or brunette, and she needs BANGS.  Why she insists on doing the pin straight blonde thing is beyond me.  So unflattering.

    • ceceliadid

Totally agree.  What would have taken this look to a WERQ for me is a mass of curls in a color that contrasts more with her skin.

    • christinewithanx

She starts filming in Paris this week as Princess Grace. Kelly. Yeah, that one. It’s so upsetting.

      • nancylee61

January Jones would have been much better for that role than Nicole Kidman!! Ridiculous!!

        • syrupandsugar

But, Nicole Kidman can act and January Jones…

          • christinewithanx

Agreed. Kidman’s playing Grace at age 32, as well, so good thing she’s had all that work done!

  • SO IN. But she is my woman crush, so I might be a little biased. Look at her body in it! I would have loved it with the jacket, but like youse, I totally understand why she doesn’t have it on.

  • GorgeousThings

IN! She looks sleek and modern, and it’s a nice change from all the retro-styling.

And as far as Keith – give the boy props for not being intimidated by her height, unlike the loser she was married to before.

  • newleaf1

    In.  That is all.

  • teensmom99

IN–this is dress has her name all over it.  She looks fab (though agree re why the fried hair . . .)

  • Laylalola

In. And the hair to me looks pretty good for a mid-40something.

  • IN. I miss her red hair, but this is Nicole at her best – an interesting dress that’s NOT like everyone else’s! I think this is the best I’ve seen her look in months.

  • Elizabeth Denton

She looks SO good in this cool dress! It’s her full-of-filler face thats out.

  • In. Not a fan of the ensemble, but it works on her better than it would on anyone else, and it’s better than she’s looked for awhile.

  • Knee jerk reaction says out, but that’s just because Ms. Kidman is NOT my favorite.  But she’s looking pretty stellar here so have to give props where due – In.  This is a tough dress to pull off, and she’s doing it.

  • I like it better with the jacket, but it’s still an IN.

The shoes, hair, and makeup are all sad and prevent this from being a WERQ.

  • jmorino08

IN! The dress is interesting and fits her beautifully. She really stood out from the crowd and that’s all that matters right?

  • Emily Giovanni

She looks like an angel! In.

  • Jessi03

    In!  Lovely!

  • In with the dress, out with the makeup that looks post-heroin-hooker bingeish.

  • IN, she looks like the Ice Queen, and rightfully so.

  • Looks great, but that jacket would have made her a total Tron ice princess, which, you know, would have been awesome.

  • Catiline

IN.  It does slightly weird things to her proportions up top, but the overall effect is awesome and unforgettable.

  • fringebenefit

  • Billie_Dawn

In! She resorts to wearing all-white or other colors that wash her out way too often, so this is a nice combination of comfort zone + risk taking. Although she really, really needs to go back to the red hair.

  • In.  Love, love the color on her.

  • Zeeshan Ali

  • IN. This dress is gorgeous, but not everyone could wear it. She looks wonderful.

  • kalisa

I thought they were wings. And she was wearing it backwards.

  • In_Stitches

There’s some warrior-goddess, Norse queen-of-battle fierceness in that dress and the styling completely let it down.   That center part, tucked behind the ears, hair that she goes to time after time is just not right for this.   Stepford hair doesn’t work on Xena’s wedding gown.  Plus, it looks like she did her makeup herself.  It’s the Emmy’s Nicole, step it up.  OUT.

  • Michael_Jones

    In.  No question.

  • fiestyfashionfem

The dress is an “in” but her overall look is an “out” – can we do that?  And it is an “out” because of her hair and her pained, puffed face.  Please stop, Nicole.  You are so very very beautiful without all that stuff in your face.

  • I’m completely distracted by how red her eyes are!  Shouldn’t Visine be available backstage?

  • Gives her a Pigeon Breast look…nyeh!

  • Love the dress, not crazy about her makeup.

And Keith Urban’s ladyheels are hilarious. He should take pointers from Nicolas Sarkozy and go with lifts instead – less visible.

  • In, from the neck down. I think she should have worn the jacket, it’s beautifully retro.  Her hair and makeup are tragic.

  • llou56

yes, but her hair and makeup, no.

  • call_me_schmeg

IN! and her face isn’t looking as harsh as it has in the past. girl looks HAPPY.

  • CPK1

i love it. Stunning dress, perfect for her.

  • AtticWife

    IN! Bonkers.

  • mjude

    IN. love her

  • In. Love this dress. Further reasons I pretty much am never on twitter (unless TLo is livetweeting something, pretty much). But I quibble with TLo in that the jacket, while fabulous, might take this look into Grand Dame territory, of which Ms. Kidman is still a few decades shy.

  • I liked – it was a refreshing palette on her if nothing else, and I liked the wing effect. IN.

  • piecesofconfetti

IN! What’s not to like? I can’t see the shoes, and they do look a bit sad, but everything else is working.

  • Apocalipstick Now Redux

Out.  She looks like she’s wearing a vagina space dock.

  • Reneesance

IN, gorgeous dress, just lovely on her but I hate when she goes blonde.

  • No matter what I think of her or her creepy face, it´s an IN. The hair could be better, sure, but it´s not Connie Britton bad either.

  • that close-up to her face is scary bro

  • siena Mystic

It’s gorgeous, I love it. Definitely an In.

  • e jerry powell

Bitch still can’t move her face.  And this marrying short men has got to stop.

  • janierainie

I say in! If you can’t wear vagina wings to the Emmys, where can you wear them?!

  • What’s not to love? Take away the mom shoes and I’d go as far as a WERQ. This dress loves her.

  • MilaXX

I liked it and thought the look suited her. Not WERQ worthy, but a good showing nonetheless

  • Jeremiah Capacillo

IN! Great color! Those shoes are sad though.

  • IN. She really stood out in the crowd and the sequin detail totally distracted me from the fact that her face is beginning to look immobile again. She’s gonna fly those vagina wings to the Promised Land …

  • of cos it’s IN, what vagina wing? you guys are just having way too many nasty thoughts.

  • Wait, there are people who don’t like this dress?

The hair looks good from far away – I think a really sleek look is what the dress requires – but up close it looks awful.

  • Cathy S

I liked it, but then I saw it with the jacket and I really wished she’d worn that. Hell, her husband’s wearing a jacket, she could have worn in for the pictures at least. It’s a nice gown but so much better with the jacket.

  • janetjb

    Modern, unusual and beautiful.  In.

  • In. Love this. I’m you your team, TLo!

  • sanja_ramic

IN. I tuned into the Emmy broadcast about half-way through and Nicole immediately caught my attention, I too love it more with the jacket and wish I could see how the whole look translates into ‘real life’, but it’s a pretty stunning look.

  • PeggyOC

In. It’s elegant, classy and looks awesome on her.  I do wish she’d go back to red hair, as the blonde washes her out, but that’s minor.

  • Ice Goddess! No question!  I think the jacket would have been too much.

  • I hate to say it because she bugs me, but it’s a pretty stunning dress. In, I guess. Sigh.

  • pattyw

To be fair to Keith, she’s like 6’5″ in those heels.

  • Lilithcat

It really needs the jacket to pull the look together.

  • Judy_J

I say IN!  Love the dress, and it fits like a dream.  Not so crazy about her hair, but we all have bad hair days, don’t we?

  • VioletFem

IN. She looks stunning. Not crazy about the hair, but the dress is gorgeous and the overall affect is beautiful.

  • OUT. It reminds me of a bedazzled version of one of those novelty aprons with an exaggerated woman’s shape (usually in underwear) on it.

  • in that’s amazing

  • Mary229

I like it better with the jacket too but honestly….this works for me.   She has been looking great lately.

  • bringbackbeatles

When I first saw her, I did not love this dress. It wasn’t horrible or anything, but it just seemed like it made her look bigger on top because of the metallic and was a little like armor. And, of course, the shoes suck. But, when I saw the runway photo with the jacket, that’s when I gasped. I would have loved to see her with the jacket, at least in photos. So, OUT.

  • LadyJazzmine

In, but I hate the hair and I wish she actually still looked like Nicole Kidman and not Joan Rivers playing Nicole Kidman. :/

  • l_c_ann

Husband came in, looked over my shoulder and asked if that was a NYC skyscraper dress from PR.  First thing he saw was the sequined outlined skyscraper pointing to her belly button.
If it had the jacket, it would be in.  It didn’t, and that (to me) makes it out.

  • In.

  • IN!

  • whatireallymeant

Out. Looks like e project runway challenge where the designer ran out of time.

  • ConnieBV

She has like two inches worth of roots, but IN. The dress is stunning and she has just the coloring and height to pull it off. IN

  • Can’t deny she looks great. Her hair, makeup, facial expression… much softer than usual, and that alone merits an IN.
Add a striking dress (although slightly disturbing nether regions), and we have a winner.

  • filmcricket

I *should* like it, because there’s blue & sparkles & it’s vaguely Deco in the pattern, but… no. It looks home-ec cheap to me and appears to be pulling around her hips which is ridiculous because she’s a twig.

I fully admit I may be biased, though: she was sitting in the front row and every shot I saw of her she was fixing her hair or talking to hubby or doing ANYTHING other than applauding the winners, and I’m just like “If you don’t want to be there, don’t. No one thought you were going to win anyway.” Tom Hanks has twice as many Oscars as she does and he clapped for everything.

    TL;DR: Out.

  • Tatiana Luján

Absolut IN. I wish she had wore different shoes, tough.

  • crackineggs

I logged in to vote IN in case the vote was needed, but I see we mostly all agree.  (that sentence was overly prepositioned)

  • SapphoPoet

IN! A stunning dress. Lots of visual interest and her face looks softer than it has done. Agree about the hair.

  • hmariec19

    Love it. She looks fab.

  • nannypoo

She often shows up at red carpet events with spectacular dresses, and this is no exception. Her hair is awful. She should leave her face alone. She has begun to look like a Nicole Kidman impersonator.

  • ert4osu

Besides the fact that it looks like she has the outline of the empire state building on her crotch and her hair looks like it has been applied to her hair with a hot glue gun and the shoes are a to boring and matchy… I love the colors together and they work very well on her. IN.

  • MissAnnieRN

IN.  Although why did it give the illusion of a belly pooch from front on?  Nicole Kidman is THIN.

    • formerlyAnon

But she’s also mid-40s. Depending on what her genes want her body to do, she’s old enough to develop a tiny bit of a belly even if she’s thin.

  • In, the dress looks fab, but her hair looks like shit

  • tylka5

In.  She looks beautiful and happy.

  • twocee

In.  I agree with the quibbles, especially the hair, but the dress really is beautiful.

  • bhl_1123

Absolutely IN–though it seems like she is over-Botoxing again.

  • kolokOlchik

    Absolutely IN

  • nancymae

In. I squeed with delight when I saw this.

  • I was too distracted by the plumped lips and botoxed face to focuse on the dress

  • In. So interesting. I hate her hair though.

  • schadenfreudelicious

she looks lovely and i like the dress, i do wish she would stay with a deeper shade of red hair however, that washed out strawberry blonde does little for her…

  • miagain

    IN… stunning

  • LuxuryLime

    IN. She looks amazing.

  • IN!

  • In. Her hair is a little disheveled, but that dress is so spectacular I can’t ding her for it. IN!

  • Carlos Abreu

i just think it has an awkward shape from waist down accentuating the ” sparkling vagina wings”… maybe 2 or 3 inches long… would’ve been nice… i dont like white on her… cause she’s already too pale… and the shoes are ugly enough to not be seen… the sparkling is too literal on white… i9’ll give it a  2/5

  • NCDFan

Definitely In!  Great color for her, eye catching, and she’s standing next to a great accessory!

  • belfebe

I think it’s a beautiful dress on her.  However, I am not sure about the fit across her lower torso, and that’s why I would give it an OUT.  But she’s working the shit out of if, I will give her that.

  • barbarienne

IN. your twitter peeps need a drink or something.

I think it looks better at a distance than up close, where the pattern of different sizes and shapes of sequins gets too busy for my eyes.

Not sure about the jacket. It just amps up the whole “angel wings” effect, but it sure is striking. I would need to see the back of the jacket.

  • xmixiex

    IN.  love.

  • j_anson

IN. This is clearly awesome and even unusual.

  • Carlos Abreu

i just dont see what’s the point having a ton of stylists when u do choices that u know will be ridicularized by pretty much everyone… even if some might like… it’s pathetic… and it shows that a lot of these girls doesnt have good a personal good taste or they are just fucked up… just go to london or paris during a fashion week and pretty much anyone unknown hanging around the street dresses so much better with so less than nikole and a bunch of celebrities…

  • HeatherMcIlrath

IN IN IN IN IN. i think the overall affect is absolutely gorgeous

  • OUT, looks like some kind of hand crafted project to me…hey kids! lets put shinies on a pair of old white pants!

  • 909girl601world

  • Sally3000

My immediate reaction was that the sequins were shaped like some sort of gynecological tongs. It’s really hard for me not to see that due to the shape and the color. I tried really hard and the best I could do was to instead see a giant robot spider or a giant tooth with long roots.

  • Striking. In.

  • Jenna621

I loved this on her.  Definite IN.

  • tereliz

    IN! Stunning dress on her.

  • Anathema_Device

In! She looks like a fancy resort swimming pool, in good way.

Don’t care for the matchy shoes. Should have gone with silver.

  • Anne At Large

I don’t love the hair/makeup/accessory choices but she looks more like she is genuinely smiling than she has in a while on the RC to me and if anyone can work a robot Ice queen dress, she’s the one for me.

  • ChaquitaPhilly

IN! When you’re right, you’re right, boys.

  • Allison Evans

In! I loved it when I saw it!

  • snarkykitten

  • julnyes

I agree with TLo – IN.

  • sweetestsith

IN. She looks striking as hell, I dig the color on her and the sequin work is very pretty.

  • IN! Gorgeous.

  • Neverbuynewclothes

If anyone can rock a shiny, Joan of Arc breastplate, it’s she. Thanks, Nicole, for an interesting dress.  IN.

  • meowing

While I’m not a fan of hers, I do like this dress for her–long column of white with the bright blue designs (even wings).  However, I continue to be creeped out by her eyebrows.  She perpetually looks angry, even when smiling.

  • ThaliaMenninger

Fabulous. She looks SO much better since she ditched the Cruise, got over the whole depression break-up thing, and got some sense of self back.

  • IN. I like that it’s different, and I love the colors. The hair, as you said, isn’t great, but the dress stands on its own.

  • quiltrx

    IN.  Ice goddess indeed.

  • I love it. She’s really making the glittery vag-wings work for her.

  • Mirandom

IN! This was my favorite Red Carpet look.

  •  IN IN IN. It is one of my fav looks of the whole night!

  • leftcoastpickle

out, yuck. Ms. Kidman is looking healthy, though.

  • LOVE it. IN

  • amf0001

she’s getting too vampirish, ancient eyes peering out of a forever frozen face… I wish she would let herself line a little… she would look so much prettier!

  • Wellworn

IN – it’s sleek, it’s not boring or vulgar, as some of those patterns have been lately.  And, those sequins are in my favorite color.

  • She is managing to bring off a dress with a white, stylized inset of either a) the empire state building, b) the tip of a fountain pen, or c) a penis.  That alone makes this an IN.  (My first thought was it looks much better with the jacket, too.)  Anyone else think Alexis Carrington wore this in a previous lifetime?

  • lizajane1776

    In. Ice Queen dressing appropriately.

  • IN even though the severe centre-split makes the look Rain Man’s symmetrical dream. Side parting would have been better.

  • gabbilevy

IN. I love it, and I think her makeup looks pretty. Shoes look hideous though.

  • Fisher&SonsFuneralHome

It almost looks like someone appliqued the ass of a pair of jeans on a white gown until you look closer.

    • That’s all I can see, too! It’s really the only thing preventing me from loving this dress.

  • Candigirl1968

IN. But when did Nicole start morphing into Rebecca Romijn?

  • kaycem

idk who disagreed, but they’re as wrong as wrong can be.  (i was surprised this was even getting the ol’ in/out treatment [sounds dirty] to be honest.)

    absolutely IN.

  • IN. Definitely ice goddess-y and stunning overall, but I’m not a fan of the giant arrow pointing at her crotch…

  • Zaftiguana

IN. Twitter bitches don’t know shit.

  • guest2visits

Half like this dress. I think the blue sequin design is gorgeous, but ends too soon. It literally looks like a PR contestant ran out of
money at Mood and this was all the pretty embellishment that they could afford. It has a way of making this look like 2 different
dresses; top and bottom.  The shoes look so much like casual beach sandals from the front, that it adds to the split-presentation
    of the dress.

  • jw_ny

IN – stunning, as per usual.

I’d give her a WERQ except for the blue on her shoes…ew.

  • understateddiva

    classy – IN

  • It’s an overly embellished dress, but it’s not a bad one. I like the aquatic tones, and there’s something artful and harmonious about the embellishments that mitigates their excess. I prefer this dress with its jacket. I think it’s almost inextricable from the jacket, really. The accentuated shoulders of the jacket work to draw attention to the neck and up, and the non-embellished collar and borders of the jacket work to delineate the torso. Subtract the jacket from this look, and the torso looks clunky because of all that white, non-embellished, “canvas” space. That’s my main problem with this dress: the disproportion (embellished space vs. unoccupied, white space). I don’t like that I’m seeing a tower shooting up to her crotch, either.

  • Wow, major IN! That is uber fab! Looks like she’ back to the botox and lip fillers though, unfortunately.

  • IN. Want.

  • BrooklynBomber

It’s great, what’s not to love?  And I agree: even better w/ the jacket, but w/o it’s still IN.

  • stagmania

I LOVE THIS. That color is beautiful on her. IN.

  • nancylee61

Gorgeous dress and the jacket somehow takes away from the vagina wings. Still, it is pretty stunning. She is so incredibly tall, now I know that people mean when they say a tall glass of water!

  • prettybigkitty

IN!   Best she has looked on the RC in some time.

  • I guess I’m in between. Love the color and the impact, but the way the top is shaped makes her look HUGE on top, and we all know she isn’t. Either the white needed to be larger or the sequins needed to wrap around. And the bottom is shapeless.

So I guess that’s an overall OUT for me. Did anyone else notice that she had red shoes on later during the show?

  • ashkeyana

Even if I’m not a fan of her hair, the dress is gorgeous (and even more with the jacket), I love the sequins. And what is wrong with glittery vagina wings ?

  • Call me Bee

The dress is stunning, but it was tailored way too small for her.   The fabric was pulling unmercifully as she walked down the steps after her E! interview.  Awful.  OUT!

  • ChristinaRi

This dress looks like something from the unconventional materials challenge on Project Runway.

They got a bunch of shiny stuff and started gluing it on muslin, but then ran out and were stuck sending out the rest of the dress blank.

I like the color of  the glittery stuff and don’t mind the design, but I don’t like that color of blue with white and I don’t like the blank look of the dress   — It’s better with the jacket.

I just keep thinking how you all would rip this if someone did it on PR.

  • Zippypie

This was seriously one the UGLIEST dresses on the carpet.  When I saw your tweet, boys, I thought you had gotten ahold of the PR judges’ crack pipe.  First off, it is so unflattering on her body, making her look like a big wide rectangle.  And that waist detail?  Makes her look more like a box and she has a straight, boyish figure.  The neckline is too high, her boobs look droopy, even though they’re not and it’s like 70s Azteca.  Ugly.

But the thing I hate most?  The fact that the design on the front of the dress is ONLY on the front of the dress.  Even the waist detail doesn’t go around to the back.  It’s like a cheap Chinese-made 70s polyester maxi-dress from Wal-Mart.

Paired with the lame shoes and the limp hair and it looks like another lip job (Nicole, please, honey, STOP!), she’s back to looking like a Nicole clone again.  At least she seems to have laid off the botox.  God, she is so beautiful, I just don’t get it!!

  • Rachel Ward

I love it. Definite show-stopper. Her face looks like she’s back on the Botox, though, and it looks a bit generic and sad.

  • lalahartma

I have to say out.  I just don’t like that dress.

  • granddelusion

Keith urban is the spawn of trolls.

  • holdmewhileimnaked

the only thing i dislike about it is the disconnect between the texture of the white fabric vs the blue gunk. the blue gunk is nice & admittedly striking, i think the dress is made of too thick, too stiff a fabric to set it off as well as it might. other than that it’s very pretty. i dont mind the shoes.

  • Something in me wants to pull those two wings together and close up the gap. Its like the continents divided and left a sea of white.
And I hate her hair and make up. And she needs Visine. And I hate the shoes.

  • ojosazules

In. She is wearing that dress. It deserved better shoes.

  • AlexisPayne

A reserved In, it’s a gorgeous dress and she has the figure and stature to show it off but all the details are so so.

  • Aly Light

Jeez, I hate Nicole Kidman with a fiery passion, and even I have to admit she looks killah here. IN.

  • Julie Fountain

I think it’s a great dress – and she’s wearing it well.  I vote IN!

  • msdamselfly

What is there not to like?

  • I’ll give it an “IN.” The dress is beautiful, and who better to wear an “ice queen” gown than Nicole. Hate her hair a lot, though.

  • marilyn

Barely in.  This dress is more of a costume than dress.  The color is good for her and the design is clean.   The cut flatters her.

  • galcurly

I honestly don’t like her, and I prefer her as a red-head, but she looks STUNNING in that dress.  Though there are no good shots of the shoes, I have a feeling I don’t like them as you just get little peeps of the toes and the bits you do see look like it’s a matchy matchy blue.  But, over all, In.

  • Trisha26

In. She looks pretty – and that’s not a bad thing. Do love it more with the jacket, though.

  • Araina23

    In, she looks great.

  • 14a

In. She looks gorgeous and not bright yellow.

  • Jangle57

I like it better with the jacket but I still think it looks good on her.  IN

  • fashionablylate

  • Striking! In!

  • beebee10

IN–i really like her as an actress, but sadly, I think it’s her face that is throwing off the look, not the dress. I’m so sorry these fabulous actresses experience so much pressure.

  • MzzPants

IN. IN. IN!   But, Dear Lord, girl, buy Keith a stylist of his own.

  • caitlincactus

    chic & interesting. in.

  • RoxieRider

    In. She looks arresting.

  • dreadful.  she is a botoxrobot.

  • Ooooouuut! The colors are amazing and the beading (sequins?) should be beautiful, but their placement is just not good. Others have mentioned the wings, the “phallic skyscraper,” etc. The first thing I saw was a tromp l’oeil backside of blue jeans right on the bodice, and now I cannot UNsee it. I think a beaded/sequined illusory blue-jeans gown could be funny and ironic at the CMAs, but at the Emmys it’s just weird.

  • IN!!

  • Srw27

She lost me at “vagina wings”.  Now that’s all I see when I look at the dress, so I just can’t.  OUT

  • IN! She’s an angel with her wings in the front! 100% her colors.

  • surfergirl70

The dress is pretty, but her face makes me sad.  She was a gorgeous woman, and now she’s so botoxed and collagen-ed and plastic looking that I don’t even notice what she’s wearing because I’m so distracted by the way she’s ruined her face.

  • I love this look on her. She is so IN!!!

  • elirt

I think she looks amazing – IN!

  • I want to like this dress a lot but I think it would have looked even better with a shorter skirt. Or maybe over a softer skirt, instead of the white column. I don’t know. I think I have to give it an IN, but it’s borderline. Her hair is all wrong, of course, but she usually flunks hairstyling so what can you do.

  • Snailstsichr

IN. she looks like an Aegean sea goddess.

  • The angels have the phone box!

  • sashaychante

IN…only slightly though, because, I DO NOT LIKE her straight hair.  Someone introduce Ms. Nicole to a curling iron…PLEASE!

  • leave_Blake_alone

  • I love this dress on her!  Even though she is fair skinned she can pull off white like no body’s business!  Agreed on the tragic shoes, fried hair, and her eye makeup is kinda scary, but hands down an IN on that dress!!

  • demidaemon

    IN. Awesome.

  • Victoria Sharoyan

I feel weirdly manipulated by this look. I can practically hear her stylist whispering in my ear that I’m supposed to be stunned by it, but I’m just not. I share the distaste for the placement of that sequin design and I feel like she looks much more human when her hair isn’t straightened.

  • IN!

  • Emily Scott

    IN! Just gorgeous!

  • IN. Totally and completely IN. Even sitting down this dress was fab.

  • Larkin21

Stunning dress on her. I prefer it without the jacket. Her make-up looks a bit messy but I like her hair. Definitely IN!

  • In, even without the gorgeous jacket.

  • Not flattering to her figure, cannot overlook the terrible, not found in nature, hair. Out.

  • In!!!

  • you’renotmysupervisor!!

INteresting, but I still prefer her natural strawberry-blonde

  • IIINNNN all the way! She looked amazing!

  • mozzer0906

In, I gasped as well when I saw her.  Definitely room for improvement, but the gasp puts it into win column.

  • Imasewsure

I like it but loved it with the sweater IN

  • alwaysanswerc

People disliked this? Whaa? So IN.

  • cleep1000

    Definitely IN.

  • Tuana Neves

In! Really liked this one. Well done, girl.

  • pookiesmom

The white space in her crotch area looks pretty, um, suggestive to me. Or like the Empire State Building. Either way, OUT.

  • VRuss

I don’t like the dress, but this is the prettiest I have seen Nicole look in a long time (hair and makeup). Could be that she gained the pounds she was missing?

  • DCSheehan

Out. Penis dress. Ugly penis dress.

  • SatelliteAlice

In.  I agree about the fact that the jacket makes it better but honestly who would wear a jacket in that weather.  Yes the shoes are kind of depressed looking but I think the dress makes up for it.

  • Lilak

Liked it when she was sitting down, rather less when vertical.  Design seems unfinished, not to say half-assed, without the jacket.

(And may I join the chorus?  Red tresses, come back to us!)

  • Nonmercisansfacon

    Out for me.

  • Emily Giovanni

Before, I said “She looks like an angel!” Upon further review, she looks like an angel from far away. The closer you get to her face, the more she looks like she could unhinge her jaw and swallow her enemies (everyone) whole. Still “in” though. Just a weird “devil in disguise” in.

  • zelavie

The first thing I thought when I saw this was “Ed Hardy does Red Carpet!”.  In spite of that, I do think this is pretty gorgeous.  She’s trying to force an OUT with those shoes, but I’m gonna go with a slight IN.

  • annieanne

IN, but only because I really like it with the jacket.
For some reason taking the jacket off makes it look like the neckline of the dress is strangling her.

  • warontara

  • newtonGOTbeaned

I love the dress and the earrings. I don’t mind the shoes. I don’t understand why she does that to her hair and face. For a little while she went back to redder hair and (seemingly) less botox and that was so much better.

I get where people are coming from in regards to the vagina wings, but I don’t find it offensive.

  • frannyprof

Out! The fit, TLo, the fit. All wrong. And the shoes. I was sooooooo disappointed in this.

  • neofashionista

Love this !!! IN! A perfect dress for her.

  • KathKo

I like the runway version better, but she looks like ice wings are about to sprout from her boobs.
Just for that, it’s an IN

  • rainwood1

In.  Agree it would have looked even better with the jacket.

  • …It’s a dress with bits on that makes her look like she’s wearing the breastplate from a coat of armor.  I like the colors, but that is all.  Nicole is OUT to lunch with the Knights of the Round.

  • You say “glittery vagina wings” like it’s a bad thing!  😉  Some reservations, as you said, but I’m gonna go with IN.

  • UsedtobeEP

Someone may have already said this, but a lot of early shots of this dress (if you weren’t watching on TV, as I wasn’t) were hips-up, and the white cutout looked phallic. I like this a lot better seeing the full length.

  • kimmeister

    In for sure.

  • lundibleu

    In, definitely.

  • Sara__B

The gown is IN. The hairstyle is OUT.

  • girliecue

In, but although I love seeing the details up close on finely handcrafted dresses, this is one that actually looks better the further away that it is. She still bugs, though.

  • librarygrrl64

Reluctant IN. Cool gown, meh styling.

  • The blue portion reminds me of a superhero breast plate. The white space that is in the middle of the wings is giving me the finger. OUT!!!!

  • Samantha Irene

    Ice Goddess!!! IN.

(though I do wish she’d go back to a red or strawberry hair color)

  • In, I think she looks amazing!

  • Michelle_Be

Her vagina has wings …nuff said.

  • Danette Greenwood Brockett

    In, stunning!

  • mznormann

Love it better with the jacket!!

  • Adore. IN.

  • formerlyAnon

In, are those people crazy? That skirt hangs exactly as a simple long skirt should hang and I really don’t see that often.

(Though I agree that the whiz bang part of the ensemble is the jacket.)

  • altalinda

Not my cup of tea.  Out.

  • GTrain

Better with the jacket, but IN

  • LOVE it.  Big IN!

  • OUT.  The dress is wearing her.

  • ccm800

    In for sure.

  • In. Ice goddess.

  • ChelseaNH

    Definitely IN.  Shut up, twitter-peeps.

  • Absolutely beautiful.

    She is OWNING this gown.

  • bitterk

IN.  That dress is divine and she has the height to pull it off.  Her botox on the other hand…

  • Pterodactyl111

  • reddhouston

    IN..love it

  • lucasuk82

In – the pattern of the of sequins is gorgeous, the color combo suits her and is fresh, and the shape plays up her tall and slimt figure perfectly.  Add a little Mrs. Coulter hair, and she could have dinner on the Normandie.

  • IN!  She looks beautiful, and it’s a great dress.

As far as her still towering over Keith, it always reminds me of one of my favorite quotes from her.  After she and Tom Cruise divorced, an interviewer asked her about her thoughts on the split, and she said, “Well, I can wear heels again now.”  Haaah!

  • the dress is IN, the face is OUT. girl needs to lay off the botox, fillers, restalyne, her face is starting to look Carrottop.

  • bellafigura1

ICK ICK ICK. It’s gotta be tough to make Nicole Kidman look zaftig and like she’s bursting out of her clothes, but here ya go.  The hair is terrible.

  • LinXGUA

It’s like Megatron barfed on her impeccable dress; she looks as some sort of divine angel of electronics.
But she still looks Gorgeous, so

  • IN. the shoes suck but the dress more than make up for it.

  • blondie65

In…I’m almost in WERQ territory…very few could pull this dress off, and Ms. Kidman is one of those few.  But yes, the shoes are disappointing.

  • boomchicabowwow

OUT.  It needed the jacket.  And puleeze.  If Lucy Lui is willing to LITERALLY bake in a METAL dress, our girl Nicole could have worn the jacket for the photo op.

  • nelybel

  • Matthew Dinda

In, for sure. Girl is werking it.

  • LambeeBaby

In. Love. Icy cool, just like Nicole

  • BigWhiteGrannyPanties

Oh NO!  It was a total “In” until I saw the Empire State Building covering her crotch/abdomen.  Now I can’t look at anything else.

  • another_laura

    IN!!! Great look!!

  • phrenk

That dress is working for her, IN.

  • Markatha

IN.  Don’t love the flat hair.  But the dress is fab.

  • Judih1

LOVE THE DRESS, not sure if I like the coloring on her. I mean I like the blue, but not sure if I like the white with her coloring. But love the look and she has the stature to carry it off. This is much more dignified than the sex kitten look she did for that magazine recently

  • Loudoun Family

OUTIE and it should be surgically cut down to make a bathing suit.
I am convinced LA does not have hair conditioner.

  • Alexis Keller

In so stunning, and i don’t normally like her

  • In.

  • Ice goddess! Serve up that queen of the north shit, Nic! IN!!!

  • Emmyllou

In. Most definitely (though the excessive Botox is a tad upsetting).

  • LesYeuxHiboux

IN, I was thinking ice queen, but I will take goddess. The color of the embellishment is gorgeous on her and the pin-straight hair was a great choice to go with such a slim dress. She looks a million feet tall. Powerful.

  • IN – loving it!

  • Beardslee

in.  interesting dress and she always looks lovely in a column.

  • In! She looks fantastic!!

  • Buffy

I give it an IN.  I agree about the jacket though 😀

  • MaryAtRealityTea

IN! This reminds me of old Nicole before she became Chanel’s robotic-faced bitch. I’m gonna chalk it up to a post-divorce identity crisis that took a decade to recover from, but now by jove – she’s back!

  • In, and I like it better without the jacket!

  • Jessica O’Connell

Major ice goddess. You rock those vagina wings, girl! IN!

  • HobbitGirl

LOVE. The shape is flattering and that color combo looks GREAT with her coloring.

  • instantkarmalr

Completely agree. How is this even a question? IN.

  • Liz

Why won’t she just let her hair be red and pretty????

  • TieDye64

    Easy IN.

    Oh, no question. IN.

  •  IN! LOVE IT!

  • Warmheartedgirl Seattle

IN.  I loved the dress on first sight, too.

  • oohsparkley!

  • In like Flynn.

  • Ice goddess!

  • Mona_Visa

very late to the party but I could not resist clicking on this. IN. completely
