Emmys IN or OUT: Julianne Moore in Dior Couture

Posted on September 24, 2012

We need a ruling, darlings.

Julianne Moore attends the 64th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards in a Christian Dior couture gown paired with Jimmy Choo shoes and Fred Leighton jewelry.

Christian Dior Fall 2012 Couture Collection/Model: Nicole Pollard (OUI)

Tom is a (slightly former) redhead with roughly the same coloring as Julianne, and like all redheads, he kind of hates how many rules there are as to what colors redheads should wear. But even he initially recoiled at the sight of this dress and blurted out, “GIRL, THAT’S NOT YOUR COLOR!”

On the other hand, she looks oddly radiant in these pictures. If nothing else, it’s a head-turner of a look. And certainly, it’s a hell of sight better than some of the disasters she’s worn on the red carpet in the past. But the pink, freckled skin paired with that lemon yellow dress is mostly not working for us. And that utterly bizarre bodice, that seems to go out of its way to obscure her shape, is giving us agita. There are things here to like, though. The full skirt looks amazing on her and her hair looks great. Her makeup is good, but her lips clearly need touching up. She wore just the right amount of jewelry. And dammit, that’s a beautiful color.

We don’t know, kittens. It’s up to you.

Vote Now!

IN! Bright, sunny, and GORGEOUS!

OUT! Sallow is NOT chic!

Voting on Nicole Kidman’s ice princess gown is still open and awaiting your opinion breathlessly.

  • Hell Yes, I Would!

I actually dig it. And I dig it even more because I can’t see her nipples as I can with the model.

    • GorgeousThings

I like the color, but I’m not crazy about the line where the bodice meets the skirt. But it is a nice contrast to the slit up to there (cough cough Heidi cough!) and the cut down to there (half the actresses on the RC). So I’ll give it an IN.

      • NCDFan

        What GorgeousThings said! In

      • Bodice is weirdly clunky and thick.  And thickening.

      • snarkmeister

Agreed.  I like the dress in general, but hate the super high corset-like waistline.  I do think this is the best deployment of the bright yellow dress at the Emmy’s though – all those blondes with banana yellow dresses looked horrendous to me.

    • Either nipples or better foundation garments.  I’m on a rant today about it, but I don’t want to see foundation garments.

      • makeityourself

This is a couture dress, so the foundation you see was most probably built into the garment itself. That being said, I don’t like the choice that was made. It’s distracting. A better solution was needed.

    •  Agreed, totally in! I did the math and it’s a net-gorgeous.

  • I wish I could split my vote between neck up and neck down, because her hair and makeup are FABULOUS, and everything else is godawful. She is an OUT for me.

    • AtticWife

My thoughts exactly. “Yerk” to the dress, “Mm, child” to her skin and hair and soft eyes and general gaspy gorgeousness.

      •  Agreed, OUT. (but hair/makeup look fantastic)

        • I’m jumping on this bandwagon. The gorgeous is coming from really stellar hair and makeup, not the dress.

          •  Yeah, this. Gorgeous hair and makeup. Horrible dress. OUT.

  • kschwarting

It’s the bust/waist line that is bugging me about this dress.  However, you’re right that she is radiant and I can’t help but think she’s gorgeous even though she’s often a fashion disaster.

  • tignor

She could be seen through the panning of the room from a distance. You knew where Julianne was sitting at any given moment, your eyes instantly went to her. For this, at least for a Hollywood actress, she gets an “IN” from me.

  • Anathema_Device

My thoughts when I saw ths last night mirrored yours exactly. I don’t love the dress, but I can’t get over how pretty she looks. So I guess I have to vote In.

  • Out. I’m in agreement with Tom.  Not Your Color, Julianne.  Love the shape of the dress, though.

  • out!

  • A. W.

I really liked it on tv, but in the pictures you can see that the structure of the dress creates a… boob shelf? It cuts her body and makes her look blocky. Still an IN.

  • IN- Was completely obsessed with it during the show. I thought she looked

  • I don’t mind the color on her. What drove me BANANAS was that it was so tight you could see every seam of her foundation garments through it. Yes, it needs to be form-fitting to work. But there’s form-fitting and then there’s the Emmy gown version of cameltoe.

    • Meredith_P

But at least you can’t see her nipples. 🙂

      • s’true. But really. Shouldn’t we be going for more than “able to appear on tv without pixellation” on the red carpet?

  • GoAwayKardash

You need to be super tall to pull this off and she is not super tall.

  • LOVE IT.  I think color looks amazing with her hair and skin tone.  Two Thumbs up

  • jjfg

The dress is a bit Snow White for my taste, but the color is gorgeous.  She looks gorgeous, too – from the neck up.  The dress + her = out.

  • Sobaika

IN. Striking and beautiful. Maybe not the very best of fits, but she’s still an In.

    • SassieCassy

yeah, overall impact cannot be denied.

  • lemon Pledge in dress form.

  • eowyn_of_rohan

AMAZING and a definite IN.  She looks extraordinary.  Best I’ve seen her since that emerald YSL she wore to the ’03 Oscars.

  • OUT – I’m glad she put in a bra/liner thing, but I hate that you can see the shape of it. And the colour of it doesn’t look as terrible on her as it rightly should, but it’s just too much.

  • belfebe

On anyone else, I’d probably give it an out.  However, I think that this is a personal best for her, and a far cry from the usual trainwrecks she brings to the red carpet.   She’s never looked better on the red carpet.  Let’s hope that she keeps working herself up.  So IN.

  • The torso of this dress is so odd.  She’s able to pull off that color even though every fashion rule tells us she shouldn’t.  She looks positively joyous and I think that’s what’s making the difference.  In.

    • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

In.  Completely agree.  Her attitude is what makes the dress.

  • I don’t mind the color. I just wish you weren’t able to see her bra.

  • In_Stitches

The design is just…off.  Had it been made as one piece that showed off the curves of her torso instead of a high waisted, flared floor length skirt with a matching t-shirt, it would have been a slam dunk, but as is it isn’t doing anything for her shape.  I love the color and while it’s not *perfect* for her, it’s not offensive.  It’s a tough call, but she’s squeaking by with an IN for the great hair and accessories.

  • It’s the color. Love the dress but the color is not doing any favors for her skin nor hair.

I think either emerald green (predictable, I know) or royal purple would have looked phenomenal on her!

  • I think she looks fucking fabulous.

  • OUT – although I am glad she bought both sleeves and a bra.

  • In! LOVE the color on her and in general and she looks radiant.

  • OUT. I hated this every time they showed her on camera.

Look, it moved beautifully and it was a striking color, but it DOESN’T SUIT HER. And the long sleeves look totally wrong, plus the fact that you could see her bra all through the show, and the weird bodice that shows the boning and it just looks like a body suit. No, no, no.

  • IN – I keep attempting to find something I hate about it, but I just can’t. She looks radiant and classy. AND she’s JULIANNE F-CKING MOORE.

  • VioletFem

IN. This dress works surprisingly well on her. I would have never guessed that she would look so good in this shade of yellow.

  • She’s a flowy marshmallow peep. Or runny egg yolk, take your pick.

  • schadenfreudelicious

i have such a girl crush on her its difficult for me to be objective…ultimately i feel it’s not her color, and that mid section panel makes her look thick through the middle which she is not…alas it’s an OUT

  • msdamselfly

Looks good from far away but not in the closeup

  • Shiloh Oleander

In. Strictly on it’s merits, this color is problematic. But actresses should be graded on a scale drawn from their own histories, and based on her history of dressing, this is a knock-out look. It’s interesting, bold, and different from the other lame taffeta prom dresses that all the other actresses insisted on wearing. Plus, she looks radiant.

  • alyce1213

I faulted this dress on her in close shots at first — mostly the bustline and color. Then, they cut to a wide shot showing the entire silhouette, and then an even wider shot of the stage, and it was WOW! That dress is fabulous and she looks amazing.

  • IN IN IN

  • EverybodysStarling

Not crazy about the bodice, but she and the skirt are pretty awesome. IN!

  • IN. I think the combo of the red lip and yellow dress against pale skin is fab. She should never show her teeth though.

    • Dot

What’s wrong with her teeth? That seems like a bizarrely arbitrary smile rule.

      • She has permanent ‘red wine’ teeth. Don’t get me wrong, I adore her.

  • Hell no. That dress is an abomination and should be burned.

  • LadyJazzmine

Out out ugly ugly dress. But props for giving it a shot.

  • BrooklynBomber

A conundrum.  Because I have pretty much the same coloring, and would never drape my entire body in that color. The dress is kind of awful, and it’s too tight. And yet. . . she looks gorgeous. The dress and hair color look surprisingly great together.  She looks very pretty; as TLo said, radiant. AND let’s face it: this is a break from a string of crazy lady looks we’ve been seeing her in. To my surprise, it all adds up to IN.

  • jw_ny

It wouldn’t be my 1st choice for her…color or style…but I do think she looks rather good in this dress, overall…pretty and radiant.  It’s a real head-turner…and not in a bad way.  I dislike the seam under her bust and the lack of any definition between her waist and the skirt…strongly.  Her hair is perfectly styled for this look.

  • Hate the color but giving her an IN because this is the least disastrous look she’s shown in FOREVAH.

  • LLuL

If it were lilac, it would be a bridesmaid dress. And ugly bridesmaid dress.

I like the color on her, but not when it’s covering every square inch of her and then some.  out.

  • holdmewhileimnaked

i think she really looks good from the top waist seam up. from the top waist seam to the mid-hips, i think the dress is a little too big. were it not so it would be great. as is, it’s kind of in between. but i dont see a real problem between herself & the color. i think, maybe in this case alone, the color works. & it surely looks better on her than on the model.

  • Even though the color is slightly off, to my eyes, with her coloring, I can’t deny that she looks radiant and commanded that drab and ugly stage when she did her award presentation. She is one of those people whose force of personality is always more than the clothing.

  • It reminded me of something and it just hit me: She’s Belle from Beauty and the Beast!

  • curiouserandcuriousest

IN. She’s just a natural beauty, but she really does go wrong so often. Not this time. Colour rules be damned!

  • Mary Catherine Roberts

  • I liked it better last night when it was reading as a very yellow chartreuse (say underripe lemon vs this fully-ripe food stylist enhanced color) but looking at her now the only thing wrong with it is she needs to be wearing a better bra. Seriously: everything that’s wrong with the top is that she’s wearing a white, formed, strapless bra. It distorts the shape of the bodice and gives her uniboob; better to wear a boned tricot bra with invisible straps.

    • meowing

See, I ruled out bra problems and came to the conclusion that it was a design flaw for a woman with any bustline at all.  Made hers look like they were sitting on a too small shelf.  Not sold on the color, altho’ she does look deliriously happy.  Kept thinking the poor girl must be melting in the heat with those sleeves.

      • MilaXX

I think it’s because they lined/inserted a bra for Julianne. On the model it’s slightly sheer

  • BazoDee

OUT – the color is too much -distracting although not unflattering. And sooo much of it – maybe sleeveless? If you are going to wear that much of a color you better be 100% sure it is a color that works for you.

  • There was a lot of debate about this dress over at the Fug Girls. I’m gonna go with IN just because she’s owning it. And because her nipples (thank God) are covered.

  • kanewatkins

This color is NOT lemon yellow. It is chartreuse, almost the exact same shade as Claire Danes’ dress, but a hair softer and less acidic.

I’m sure some televisions & computer screens show this as pure yellow, but those devices need their color settings adjusted, because this is a vivid citron/chartreuse.

  • She looks good in some of the pics but I hated it onscreen last night… Makes her look boxy and that’s a bad color for us freckled ladies. Trust me.

  • I’m sorry, but it’s an OUT. And not for the color (which rules aside, looks good in a “radiant” way here), but for the bodice and how it makes her bust seem oddly positioned.

  • DaveUWSNYC

She looks so happy…and thankfully put her nipples to bed early…IN

  • Her face and hair look gorgeous, but I just don’t think that color is her friend. Then there’s all the weirdness around her boobs and waist. Love her, but for me it’s an OUT.

  • MK03

    OUT. Unequivocally awful.

  • Kyle Crawford

Chop off the sleeves and go one size up on the bust and it would be a werq.

  • I’m giving it an “IN” only because she does indeed look radiant and the skirt is supremely flattering. A less-than-perfect dress can look okay when worn with confidence and when the dress isn’t wearing the wearing. In both those cases, I’d say she qualifies.

  • In. But strangely, I feel like it would work if it were even MORE saturated. BRIGHTER YELLOW.

  • as a ginger, do.  not.  like.  that’s a color i usually wholeheartedly avoid myself, but it’s not even the color i can’t stand but the shape.  she looks like a big shapeless block of yellow.  if she had a defined waist in it i’d be all about the full skirt, but as is, eesh.  out.

  • SistaT

My initial reaction was “weird” but the more I thought about it, the more I scrolled up to look at it and the more I looked at it, the more I liked it.  It is a dress that won’t fail to garner attention and will leave you thinking about it days later.  Not to mention, I love going against the grain of the colors redheads “should” wear.  I think she looks radiant and confident and even though she’s not a young ingenue, she wasn’t content to fade into the background.  For those reasons, she is definitely IN.  Way to go, Julianne!

  • IN.  She is radiant in the color, her hair and makeup are beautiful, I love the shape and the long sleeves.  Yeah, there are some foundation issues but this was my favorite of the night.

  • mmc2315

OUT.  I can’t get on board with the color, and the fit is not. good.

  • 14a

Oh Out. I was cringing when I saw her up on that stage. I’m still cringing looking at the photos. The color is just too severe and the bodice is weird.

  • twocee

My first reaction to it last night was “that’s hideous,” so I have to go with Out.  Ugly dress in general, ugly color for her, and it makes her look about 20 pounds heavier than she is.

  • Noshmek

  • kaycem

three women tried similar shades: julianne, claire (more golden yellow), and julie (more green w yellowish undertones)… julianne’s the only one that pulled it off imo.  i think it’s mainly b/c the dress is definitively yellow, but with a slight green undertone and no warm, gold/golden to be found.  with her skin’s pink undertones, the dress’ green undertones are a perfect complimentary color for her, hence the obvious radiance.

i also like the overall simplicity of the dress (another misstep on the part of her contemporaries) and the pared-down accessories and hair.  the bright lip was a nice counterpoint, but it was done as a stain so it didn’t look too dominant or heavy.  the rest of her makeup was pretty low-key, too.  masterful use of balance and moderation here, letting the dress shine / do the work.

  • Judy_J

I love the skirt; hate the bodice and sleeves. Her hair & makeup are good. IN , just barely.

  • Zippypie

Neck up, gorgeous.  Neck down, OUT, OUT, OUT!!!!

What is with all the high intensity egg yolk yellow on the carpet? It is probably the hardest color to wear, the least flattering on most women, and yet all the lemming celebs jumped for this color this year.  Just ugly.  The long sleeves, weird bodice and high neckline are just awful.

  • maggiemaybe

I think she looks fantastic, but then I’ve got a huge girl-crush on her so I’m totally biased. IN!

  • ConnieBV

She looked radiant, and the color came across more chartreuse than lemon yellow. Both Claire Danes and the lady from Modern Family tried to wear this color, and it looked odd on a blonde. It was fantastic on her. She hasn’t looked that great in years. IN.

  • It’s an IN just for the way she is clearly LOVING how she looks. I do wish it were about 3 shades closer to butter yellow and it would have worked.

  • TAGinMO

I’ll go with IN. I actually like the color on her. OK, there are colors that could look better, but the bright, lemon yellow makes her pink skin look healthy. A little more mustard-y, and it would have been an abject disaster.

I agree with TLo that the bodice is bad, but my verdict is based on overall effect, and she looks beautiful, radiant, and happy here.

  • kmc1138

I love redheads in canary yellow. Maybe it’s just me? I think it’s the lip color that’s throwing me off, but I still love the look.

  • She herself is gorgeous, but that dress is so far OUT, it’s in another time zone.  Weird bulginess in the torso and the color does nothing for her beautiful porcelain skin.

  • AlexisPayne

I loved this the minute I saw it on her, the color is amazing and such a breath of fresh air after all the beige and black on the red carpet. I think snaps up. IN!

  • caitlincactus

i think she looks fabulous! IN.

  • Zaftiguana

IN. If you’d asked me ahead of time if someone with her coloring, or really 90% of white people, should wear that color, I’d have said absolutely not. But somehow, she looks great. I like the unique drama of the dress, and goddamn did she ever nail the details. The hair, make-up, and accessories are perfect (though yes, she needs a little lip touch-up).

  • beebee10

I’m afraid it’s an OUT. The bodice doesn’t flatter her, looks downright uncomfortable, and the heavy visible boneing of the corset transitioning to the light bust doesn’t work. SHe looks like she has a large rib cage and no bust in this dress. I’m either way about the color.

  • Jangle57

I tried, I really tried but it was just too much yellow, and I’m not that fond of the color to begin with.  It was also too much dress; it was supposed to be really hot out there yesterday and she’s wearing long sleeves?????  OUT

  • In. I love redheads in yellow. And she looks radiant in this color. I’m just not 100% sold on the style of the dress. 3/4 sleeves and a more defined waistline would have made it a winner.

  • mhleta

I really hate this color, especially in such a broad, unbroken canvas. Visually, it presents as an obstacle: you have to squint past the glare of it to see her. It detracts from her beauty rather than enhances it and that’s not what we’re after, is it?

    • Aside from the fact that I like the color (de gustibus and all that), I agree. It’s too much dress for such an eye-searing shade. Take off the sleeves, or give it a square neckline, or make the skirt a slim one — just, less fabric, please! Sort of like Heidi chopping off the sleeves of Mondo’s polka dot dress to take it down a notch.

      Anyway, that’s an out.

  • I can’t with the boob shelf. OUT.

  • She looks gorgeous but I hate the dress, since MEH isn’t an option, this is a very grudging IN.

  • MilaXX

Small IN for me. I think it mostly works, but for some reason I think it would look better with a skinny belt

  • VeryClaire

IN. The color isn’t the best on her but she looks so great overall that’s it’s an IN.

  • Barbara Koski

As a redhead with very similar coloring, I LOVE it! I really like the greenish/yellowish hues and even though in the pic it looks more yellow, I thought it looked green on the screen. She’s gorgeous!

  • sashaychante

IN…but only because she’s really outshining the dress.  I do not like the color yellow on anyone in general, so I am biased on that account.  She seemed genuinely happy last night, so IN for me.

  • As it is, an OUT. I think if the top was a different color than the skirt, I would have liked it better.

  • fashionablylate

Well I seem to have the opposite opinion of most everyone – I love the dress and hate the hair. It’s flat and stringy. Not crazy about the makeup either. Out.

  • therealkuri

Her skin looks healthy and radiant, at least on my screen. If the colour was bad for her, her skin would look sallow or strange, which it doesn’t. I think this is an IN.

  • i think the top in one color and the skirt in another it would have been striking – maybe blue and silver.  The yellow just doesnt do anything for her.

  • padma sallah

IN. She looks bright and vibrant and gorgeous. The bodice is a bit odd but it is a head turner of a dress and to me, she’s making it work. A

  • unbornfawn

OUT. OUT. OUT. And not because of the color. I watched this on TV last night and she had the wonkiest boobs ever. They were flying in every direction. There is a under corset or a lot of structure under the boobs to below the waist. That structure needed to go all the way up and secure her girls like a full corset. The dress screamed for a statement necklace. Can’t argue that she was carrying herself magnificently last night and does indeed look radiant in the photos this morning.

  • I gotta call it an IN.  She looks greater than the sum of all the parts of her outfit.

  • *She* looks amazing. The dress on her? Not so much. So the ruling tips toward OUT.

  • marilyn

Barely out.  The color is too loud and school bus-y for an evening gown.  The cut on the dress is common this fall, and it shows NO designing skills on the part of the designer at all.  This is the form for a 60’s western television show for the pioneer woman.  (I know because my husband sometimes makes me watch Gunsmoke).  Round neck, long sleeves, tight bodice, full skirt.  Where is her sunbonnet?

  • IN

  • Kate4queen

IN I have no idea why it works, but it just does for me. 🙂

  • teensmom99

OUT.  I was sure this was a Girl That’s Not Your Dress & another example of a dress that doesn’t work even on people with perfect figures. That has to be the least flattering bodice ever.  So the horror of this yellow (with no relief from accessories or jewelry) was the least of it.  She is a beautiful woman; this dress is a stinker.

  • Stubenville

Unfortunately, the dress is wearing her.  Out.

  • G

Definitely an “IN”.  Maybe not for another celeb, but she usually looks dreadful, and last night she looked pretty dang good… for her.

  • WTF is up with her hands….

  • IN. The top is a bit weird, but it ends up working somehow. Barely

  • EliseC

    IN! Bright, sunny, and GORGEOUS!

  • IN. It shouldn’t work but it does.

  • Dhammadina

In In In. She looks radiant and the dress brings out her exuberance.
    Congratulations to this excellent actor.

  • MzzPants

    Unique.  In.

  • Aly Light

It was a thing a few years ago for all redheads to start wearing yellow just like this. She’s a little bit behind the street wear trend, but I think she looks kind of amazing– and remember that she’s prone to showing up looking like ass. IN.

  • jahphotogal

Dislike, overall. Maybe if it had a lower neck or short sleeves – it was just too much yellow. The high tight empire thing was distracting – I worried that she couldn’t breathe.

    • Tatiana Luján

agree about the need of shorter sleeves and/or different neckline.

  • suz72350

IN, even though she’s really covered up.  She looks gorgeous.

  • Scimommy

  • janetjb

I really want to like this, but it’s an out for me.

  • surfergirl70

I don’t mind the color, but there’s too much of it — I feel like my eye wants something to break up that monolithic vision of YELLOW!

  • imperfectlaura

As a fellow redhead with similar coloring, that color is one of my absolute no nos. Oddly that doesn’t bother me too much. The boobs do though. OUT

  • Srw27

I think it makes her look like a Sister Wife.  OUT

  • in! I saw 2 seconds of the Emmys, it was the only dress I saw, and I thought she looked gorgeous, maybe its a case of her inner radiance just spilling out to make it all work

  • Amish hoedown dress with a boob shelf. out

  • Pants_are_a_must

It’s not the color, it’s the bodice. A slightly less corset-y bodice would’ve streamlined the whole thing like the ray of sunshine she is in this color. I’m giving her an OUT, but it’s not her fault. It truly is the dress design.

  • Tatiana Luján

I love the color and I love it on her, but I don’t like the shape of the bodice of that dress, all the t-shirt part of that dress seems wrong.

  • slightlybitterkitten

Torn!  It’s certainly better than her one-armed, fluorescent trash bags.

  • Trisha26

IN. I loved her entire look & thought the color was great on her. Every once in a while her boobs looked a little “obvious” – but now that I see it without a bra on the model I can live with “concealed obvious” boobs!

  • RoxieRider

In. The bodice was weirdly fitted and made weirder by her refusal to stand up straight, but it’s a showstopper and unusual and interesting, the skirt is breathtaking, and she looked gloriously unapolagetic about it.

  • Win!

  • It’s a tough call, but more because it’s not just the right combination of “pretty girl + pretty dress.” Julianne is always going to go “edgy,” and never “pretty and feminine.” In this, I think she succeed because this isn’t too fussy or complicated, but it’s still different enough for her. And I shouldn’t like the color on her, but I do. So, that’s my longwinded way of saying IN!

  • Pam Winters

Not her color. Style, meh. Color, no.

  • Monabel

Not many white girls could wear that yellow, and she is not one.

  • deathandthestrawberry

    I like it! IN.

  • i say IN. she took a risk and she still looks better than most starlets and i might also have a girl crush on her.

  • hated it on sight – then loved it.  IN

  • In!

  • Jennifer Coleman

I’m guessing if she were standing against a darker background (like the model) some of the color clash would retreat. I like it. IN.

  • I’m surprising myself by actually liking it. I sort of hate yellow, but I kind of love how it’s working with her hair and making her eyes pop. And I like the silhouette on her. In!

  • holzfaellen

IN! She looks radiant indeed and I like the color combination of her hair and the yellow dress.

  • pattyw

The skirt needs to sit lower (see the fit on the model). And the top looks so much heavier. If her boobs are covered, why not leave the rest of the top, particularly the sleeves, sheer? Basically what I’m saying is that the dress is fine as originally conceived but didn’t translate the way she needed to have it altered in order to make it wearable. This is why designers need to stop with the sheer already. It doesn’t work anywhere but the runway.

On another note: I’m pretty sure the scorching temperatures were referenced once every second last night on the red carpet. How is she not dripping with perspiration? I rate the dress OUT but her super human sweat glands IN.

  • Robyn Garrett

I think the color is beautiful. The shape of it just isn’t fitted for her body at all. Look at the placement of that horizontal boob seam on the model and then on Julianne – it needs real work. It’s out for me.

  • Aside from Claire Danes’ sack, everyone has looked amazing and I HATE yellow. On this one, I like the concept but the torso needs the Viv Westwood treatment. Yet she looks so incredibly joyous (hair! makeup!!) that it overrides my pusillanimous dislike. IN.

But lets not get carried away with the neon. Don’t need the red carpet to look like a Nike convention.

  • Stephanie Labbe

Remember that song, “I’m being eaten by a boa constrictor”?  To me, the bodice looks like it’s coming to get her.  Don’t care for the color or shape. I think the whole dress takes away from the woman wearing it.

  • Mirakel9

The color is…..BRIGHT!!!….but she looks beautiful and happy!

  • love it. but it was 125 degrees on that red carpet she must have been near DEATH.

  • BlondettaChick

I’m glad she’s wearing a bra, but that doesn’t mean I want to see it. And that color really doesn’t do a thing for her. OUT.

  • It’s the right kind of crazy for her, IN! She’s a risk-taker.

  • OUT….the color is fine, it’s that bodice that’s just wonky!

  • dschubba

I like it. I just wish the undergarments were less visible.

  • amian3

In. Not the most flattering shape but I love the color on her. And she Loves the dress and it shows. That makes it an in.

  • A. Valera

That model’s nipple just winked at us.  Like this:  😉

  • OUT – but mostly because of how much I hate her hair, so completely unstyled. It looks like she ran out the door without visiting hair & makeup. I don’t really like the dress itself, either. It looks like it weighs a ton and it’s all so unfinished and unrelieved.

  • IN. I love it.

  • IN. Beautiful color, a real show-stopper.

  • ojosazules

For her this is great. Some chunky gold, as on the model, would’ve zinged it up. The bracelet isn’t working.

  • Tracy_Flick

I think it’s great! I love that it’s not puddling on the floor, and nothing’s hanging out. The color’s not perfect on her, but it’s not as bad as you’d expect. IN.

  • sterlingrose

It is an out for me. It is too heavy for her and it makes her boobs look weird.   A different neckline maybe. I don’t mind the color but it is just so much fabric and it does no favors to her waist and bust. Sorry, I love her but this dress bugged me last night

  • Michael_Jones

Out.  When I saw her on the red carpet, I screamed out “What the hell is that bodice doing to your chest?”  It was a completely visceral response, but it leaves me with no other choice than out.

  • jilly_d

Hair and makeup look great and I actually think this color works for her, but for whatever reason, I gasped when I saw this- and not in a good way. I hate this dress. OUT.

  • Out.  Sorry, but clashing is clashing.  If I can’t wear candy apple red, she simply can’t wear yellow.  She can take solace in her great body, gorgeous hair and amazing job.  I think she’ll pull through.

  • EEKstl

IN with one big reservation: The bodice is bizzare and makes her look chunky.  I mean, just look at the diameter of the model: You’d have to be built like Olive Oyl not to look thick through the middle in this design.  HOwever, I loved the color on her, love the sleeves and the full skirt, hair and makeup look stunning, so it compensated sufficiently for me.

  • I’m giving her an IN for her sheer moxie at wearing that dress.

  • In. I actually like the color on her. I’m not thrilled with the bodice but she looks so pretty.

  • Catharine Senior

out. I did not like anything about this dress – the yellow was wrong for her coloring, the neckline was teeshirt like, the line under the bust and the corset-like nature of the bodice truncated her trunk, and the there seemed to be a train, which was totally unnecessary.  I did like the fullness of the skirt, however.

  • egl48

She is 52 and looks amazing.  Good for her!!!

  • mjude

i have to say IN.  i didnt see her last night as i got bored with the show, but she is one of my faves.

  • Kim_W60

Out.   She is a beautiful woman and the color does not do her justice.

  • janierainie

Out! I don’t like the color, and she looks upholstered. She looks really good make-up wise in spite of the dress.

    Watch out for that agita!

  • e jerry powell

How can you say the things you said about Claire Danes and then even try to waver about this color on Julianne Moore?

The shape exists, which is better than the pool wrap that Danes had on, but that’s faint praise under the circumstances.

  • Laylalola

    • Laylalola

Oops, fingers in wrong place on keyboard — I meant IN

  • elirt

OUT! She make just about anything werq, except this!

  • MintaHallWriter

Actually, I love it. I LIKE the color on her, and love the movement on the skirt. Even better, she looks happy wearing it.  IN-IN-IN.

  • She looks good.  In.

  • This is an IN for me. She went in a totally different direction, and SHE looks happy with herself. This dress is gorgeous on her!

  • stagmania

IN. She looked gorgeous in this, and clearly felt it.

  • In for me. The picture doesn’t look so great but I dug how it looked on TV, including the coloring with her hair. It was very dramatic.

  • The lines remind me of a long version of a 1960s skating costume. Hate the color but am glad that the top is lined.

  • megohd

IN for me. Close-up, not so much. But the overall effect was striking, in a positive way.

She doesn’t want to look like everyone else. Often, she has looked different and frumpy or weird. Last night she looked different and radiant.

  • greyhoundgirl

t like the top and what it does to her breasts but I actually liked the color on her–at least on TV–and love the full skirt and the boldness.  IN.

  • Judy_S

Lower-case and doubtful in.  I don’t like the dress much, and I thought it made her upper half look odd. It’s that T-shirt + fancy skirt idea again, but the T-shirt was just too tight/sheer (not that looser or more opaque would have helped much). On the other hand, she really glowed in it and I thought the color did its job: you knew who you were looking at even if all you saw was a shoulder or bit of skirt. She looked like a winner.

  • TheDivineMissAnn

IN.  I can’t tell you why, but for some reason it is an IN.  Maybe because she just looks so radiant and fresh.

  • SewingSiren

I actually love this. And I am ever so glad that she , unlike the model(who is fabulous in ever other way) , wore a bra.

  • Wendi126

I could break it down and quibble but I won’t. Love her, love the dress…she looks happy and gorgeous and I remembered her more than most after the show. A big full long sleeved sunny IN

  • Snailstsichr

I think she looks so much better than the model. IN because of how she is wearing it – she is glowing and elevates the dress.

  • Elizabetta1022

She looks beautiful from the neck up, but the color is just not working for her. (In fact, I don’t think that color worked for anyone last night.) If it was in a jewel tone I would have given her an “in” but I just can’t with the color. OUT.

  • I think she looks pretty great. Very striking, and that color looks better on her than should be logically possible. IN.

  • Sharon Jessup Joyce

The colour is working for me, as is everything about the dress except the under-bodice seam, which is too harsh. Everything else looks wonderful!

  • leave_Blake_alone

    IN, somehow.

I like the dress…dramatic in a covered up kind of way.  But that color….oooooh-weeeee, not on her!  I agree with the redheads cant wear yellow standard.  BUT…she looks like she LOVES how she feels in that dress so that makes it an IN! for me!

  • llou56

  • Call me Bee

It was a show-stopper on the RC the minute Ms Moore got out of her limo.  And yes–it’s funny that this odd greeny-yellow would work on a redhead, but her face and hair are stunning.  IN!

  • ThaliaMenninger

I thought it looked great on her. Head-turning indeed. If you’d asked me if lemon meringue was her color, I would’ve said NO NO NO. But when I saw her last once, I went WOW.

  • perfect! Lovely! In!

  • Jessi03

In.  She usually looks like such a trainwreck that this is a huge improvement.

  • nancylee61

I don’t like the tightness of the bodice. I love the color, but not on her. Padma or Selma Hayek would look great in that, someone darker to pull it off. Love the skirt.

  • RocknRollmom

If it were anyone else, I would say out.  I do not like the color generally but love the dress shape and even fit, but she looks awesome and yes, TLo nailed it—radiant.  And her acceptance speech was just joyful class.  Unlike Uber dirtbag–Kevin Costner.  I have to give her an IN on overall presentation and attitude.  And why are the model’s breasts uneven?  At that age, thinness and overall surgical enhancement, one would think they would at least be even.

  • galcurly

I love the color on her.  I think it is simply too easy to say any one person can’t wear yellow.  The truth is most people can’t wear all yellows.   However, most people can find at least one shade of yellow they can wear.  The trick is finding that shade.  Ms. Moore may well have found hers.   However, I can’t get behind how thick the bodice looks on her.  Just slightly out.

  • IN. I like it and applaud her for not doing her usual cracktastic route and crazy Frankenstein dresses.

  • Because she manages to look incredible in spite of all the issues with the gown, I’m giving her an IN.

  • prettybigkitty

I think she looked stunning.  IN in my book.

  • dorothea_brooke

In.  The color works against all reason and I adore the silhouette.  It’s sort of New Look meets punk and she’s just the woman to do it.  If someone younger wore that it would be “oh, whatever, Kelly Osbourne” but she brings the gravitas the dress needs.

  • Out…what is going on with this yellow this year…Claire, Julianne, and that other one who dresses like crap all the time…not a good color.

  • alula_auburn

I like it better than Julie Bowen’s or Claire Danes’s takes on yellow, for sure.

I’m a redhead with a Moore-esque complexion, and I think the color is not quite perfect, but somehow the whole package is striking. (helped, I think, by her being a redhead and STAYING red, not constantly switching back and forth to blonde.  Somehow the red is I think actually warming the color up a totch.)

eta: I think she looks hella better than the runway model! That weird bodice is even weirder on her. Like some attempt at Tudor minimalism or something.

  • Victoria Sharoyan

I’m glad I’m not the only one who’s still trying to decide if I like this.

  • roadtrip1000

Out. She’s so beautiful but she looks like she’s going to an audition for Oklahoma.

  • StrandedFashionista

I tossed this back and forth in my mind for a while when I first saw it. But, ultimately I like it. IN.

    • Lilak

I was voting differently on this each time she was on camera, almost with every move she made.  And though her boobs seemed a little ‘heightened’ (let’s say) in profile,  I, too, ended up liking the gown and her look in general.

  • sk8tfan

I actually like the color on her. It’s the rest of the dress I find horrendous.

  • DylanCurtis

I actually like it for the color, but hate what it does to her body. Her torso looks thick and her shoulders look hunched. Out.

  • AnneElliot

I have to give it an OUT.  The fit and silhouette are great on JM, but the color is so glaring and the fabric looks really stiff.  She must have been roasting in that dress.

It just makes me think of Big Bird — it is SO YELLOW.

But at least I can’t see her nipples, like the model.  What is this obsession with nipples at runway shows?  Don’t they have time to give these girls any coverage?  Are they all rushing around like on Project Runway?   I like to think professional designers have more than 10 weeks to put their collections together and organize their models!

  • Lisa Dugan

Ehhh, it’s borderline for me.  I’m giving it an In only because it was a different choice.

  • demidaemon

IN. This is a vast improvement for her, and there is somthing gaspworthy about it, even though it may not be perfect.

  • JimMcC

  • MissMariRose

I feel like it’s my patriotic duty to encourage more women to dress like a lady and not a Vegas showgirl who married rich, so I vote IN.

  • Y’all keep claiming these redheads and blondes look sallow in bright yellow when, to me, it makes their pale skin glow beautifully. In.

  • She does look radiant – if a tad straightwaisted.  It breaks all the rules but works anyway. Definition of IN

  • Larkin21

Pretty silhouette but … I don’t know. Between the color and the fabric looking a little cheap (I’m sure it’s not), this just isn’t working for me. A different color and I’d give it an in. But as is, slightly OUT.

  • I love it!  My favorite look of the night!  This is coming from a redhead.

  • Imasewsure

I’m giving her an IN because it’s not a Frankendress (and I was predisposed to give her an auto-OUT because … well because her fashion choices are generally nuts). I say IN but just barely

  • Out, very unflattering shape and color

  • I think the fact that she does indeed look “oddly radiant” shows that it’s the right color for her, even as the pink and yellow seem like they should be fighting. Sometimes colors do unexpected things.  As a pink and red girl, I’m pretty sure I’d be afraid to wear this color, but she looked amazing.  And as someone who has spent my life getting rid of freckles and covering up the ones I have, I’m in awe of her freckles!

  • pookiesmom

  • IN!  I think the combination of that beautiful yellow with her auburn hair is a knockout.

  • Sabrina Stern

You can see the outline of her strapless bra!–that is an automatic OUT for me!

  • in

  • IN IN IN. Ok it’s not her best colour but it really isn’t that bad. She looks radiant and happy and this is a grand improvement.

  • VRuss

As much as I think Julianne is possibly the most stunnigly beautiful woman there is (just love her!), I have mixed feelings about the dress. I think it is too severe, and while the color could be great, it is too much dress for that color. Maybe do that color with a low neckline and no sleeves, or do that dress in a less garish color…

I have seen Julianne wear emerald greens and purples and look absolutely stunning in them!

  • SatelliteAlice

I’ll give it a reserved in.  As a fellow red head I understand how horrid it is to find things that work that aren’t either green or boring and even though that weird seam is kind of irking me and yellow wouldn’t be my first choice I say more power to her.

  • ringthing

I don’t have time to wade through the comments but I’m probably in the minority for voting this an IN. It looks better when she’s moving, and seeing her last night I was struck by the sheer joy she was radiating. She looked great.

  • RL McGruder

I thought the color was spectacular on her!  The dress did it’s job – I couldn’t take my eyes of her, and she wore it with joy.  That’s all I need!

  • She’s making it work, despite the color. Big IN.

  • neofashionista

She should have an in just for her excellent use of nipples guards as compared to model but I loathe the skirt so OUT though she is radiant

  • zelavie

I’m going with OUT.  Not overwhelmingly, but it just doesn’t quite work for me.

  • nannypoo

I think this is one of the ugliest dresses I have ever seen in my entire life. The color is ghastly on her, the boob and midriff treatment looks uncomfortable, the skirt is stiff and the fabric is too heavy for the weather they had yesterday. I hate it.

  • frannyprof

Out. Love her, but no. Out.

  • annieanne

OUT. I can’t get past the bodice. Hate the neckline, the obvious bra cups and the cummerbund effect of the skirt. LOVE the colour on her and the skirt itself.

  • j_anson

IN. It’s not her BEST color, but she does look really happy and appealing. The bodice is a bit odd, but a) let’s all give thanks that it’s been modified from the terrible, awful thing that’s been done to the model, and b) the more I look at it, the more I’m fine with it in every picture but the very first one.

  • I applaud the concept, but everything is just a little off.  The yellow is just a little too intense, the top is just a little too small, the waist hits just a little too high.  The long sleeves aren’t a little anything; they’re just wrong.  OUT, but revise and resubmit for a higher grade.

  • crash1212

IN. And I truly hate any shade of yellow except maybe the palest of pale on an obscure wall I don’t have to look at very often. However, I thought she looked great in this. I love the dress – SO unusual – and I love that she didn’t wear a lot of jewelry as it lets the dress speak for itself. Love the hair…totally an IN for me…although, that bodice is a little odd – however when seen on the model, I’m ever so grateful that Julianne had the good sense to line it. (Do you suppose people were too embarrassed to tell the model that she had major nipple/titscrepancy?)

  • carpediva

Lots to like here: the hair (until the ends), the makeup (though yes on touching up the lips), the brave use of bold color on the RC.  But the material looks so heavy and wrinkled, the bust is wack, and the bold color might not be HER bold color…

…but given her history I’m going to grade on a curve and say IN…ish.

  • out out out out out

  • thecitysleeps

That dress is horrendous,  with or without a bra, and redheads should not wear yellow.  So many other colours that would look better.  Her hair is flawless though.

  • Peri7473

    out.  too danskin-like

  • Dagney

Part of success with that dress would rest squarely on a pair of square, broad shoulders, which Julianne does not have.  That silhouette belongs to someone else.  Maybe Jessica Biel?  and put the hair up too.

  • UsedtobeEP

In, although if I have a quibble, it’s the shape it gives her torso, not the color. I think removing the sleeves might have helped, somehow. She wears that color much better than most.

  • eruannalle

I think she looks fabulous, and striking as hell. IN.

  • Sara__B

IN. That’s a whole lot of yellow gown, but she looks lovely. Best she’s looked in ages.

  • lchopalong

I love it. In. (As a redhead, too.)

  • OUT. The color doesn’t bother me, it’s actually really pretty and cheerful, but the top… looks like the long underwear/sweater you wear under your ski jacket. Gross.

  • This is an IN for me. Maybe I’m grading on a curve–she’s done some FUGLY shit. But she looks bright and I like her figure in this.

  • DCSheehan

In. The good parts outweigh the bad. Plus she looks so pretty here.

  • Michelle_Be

It’s hard to focus on how it even looks on her! THIS DRESS IS KILLER.

  • artsykelly

In!  I’m a redhead who LOVES wearing a bright, saturated, yellow.

  • librarygrrl64

OUT. I hate this color, and the sleeves are distracting.

  • Absolutely IN!!!  She looks breathtaking and bright despite the weird bust. This is a giant leap in the right direction for her.

  • BeeBeauNYC

So OUT – wrong color. Julianne, call me – you need clothing advice from another ginge. We cannot wear lemon yellow!!!

  • TSkot

Quite possibly the best of the night: WAY IN

  • IN.  She looks awesome in defiance of all the reasons this shouldn’t work.

  • Samantha Irene

I’m giving her an IN. It’s unique, and lovely dress, and a fun color, and a nice change of pace from what she’s been wearing. That being said… I feel like they could have picked  a better shade of lipstick to compliment the look and her coloring with the look.

  • Danette Greenwood Brockett

She made it work and I love the color, IN!

  • AngelaGreen

     Oddly perfect on her.  IN.

  • m0r0

  • blue_hedonist

OUT! It’s too bad for the gingers, but this is a sickly color on her. It doesn’t even look good on the model. Oh, when will neon be over?

  • baxterbaby

IN.  I thought see looked spectacular on the broadcast from all angles and under that lighting, the color looked terrific on her.

  • mznormann

Out, mostly because of the boob shelf…

  • formerlyAnon

I say IN –  ENTIRELY on the skirt and the fact that she seems to feel fabulous in it. That is one oddly overwhelming bodice on her and the color is not doing good things to her skin.

  • guest2visits

She looked amazing in this, maybe the best look of the evening. And I don’t even like this color.

  • I can’t believe you are putting this up for a vote!  I watched last night and when I saw Julianne I groaned and said, “Girl, that is NOT your dress!”  She looks like a neon cupcake.  (OK, a happy neon cupcake.)  There’s not a thing about this that is flattering on her, and frankly I don’t even like the dress on the model.  OUT, definitively.

  • Oh, Julianne, never, ever change.

  • JaneAnne Peterson

Sometimes I think you guys are on drugs when it comes to assessing colors and what looks right with which skin tones. Ms Moore here looks amazing and radiant and not at all sallow, because she is the kind of redhead with a lot of pink undertones in her skin. There were two other bright yellow gowns last night, and one of them worked with the wearer’s skin tone and one didn’t–Claire Danes’ did, and Julie Bowen’s didn’t.

And Padma Lakshmi’s dress was beautiful and fit her great, but was wayyyyy too matchy with her skin tone in my book. That orange would have been another good pick for Ms Moore here. (I write, as a very fair-with-pink-undertones blonde, who wears yellow, orange and chartreuse ALL THE TIME.)

  • dancinfool

  • altalinda

It looked pretty good when I first saw it on tv.  In.

  • Hate it! OUT
Looks like a long sleeve teeshirt with a dress attached at the bottom.

  • In. This is pretty much the best she’s ever looked. Also, her skin and the yellow actually look good together…

  • GTrain

    Hated it. OUT

  • maria alcantara

IN.  I loved the color on TV last night and it made such an impact when she got up on stage to accept.

  • Tamara Hogan

She looks beautiful. The dress, not so much.

  • I…didn’t like this dress on her when I watched the show.  It doesn’t look quite as bad in these pictures, although the color is not the best choice for her.  I’m so glad her nipples were not visible.

Best I can do is a MEH.

  • ccm800

    In!  She looks lovely

  • ChelseaNH

Sadly, out.  The color and the bodice are overcoming her innate ferocity.

  • CurbGirl

    In. Looks great on her.

  • quiltrx

I’m sorry to say OUT.  From the neck up, and the hips down, totally IN (though it does need to be a different color).  The bodice is just BIZARRE, though.

  • carolie_king

I would give an in for Julianne, because she’s amazing and gorgeous and everything.  But this is about the dress, and I have to say yuck on the color (for her), mostly yuck on the line under the boobs, and OUT.

  • If any Dior Couture piece is doing THAT to your waist, you are NOT werqing it. OUT

  • Pterodactyl111

  • bitterk

I don’t love the color on her but compared to her Lanvin frocks this is so very much IN

  • It’s weird, and it works.

  • snarkykitten

I don’t think it’s the color that’s not working. The dress is hideous over all

  • lucasuk82

Out.  I actually like the color on her, the make up  is flawless, and the jewelry is gorgeous.  That silhouette is just broken, though.  It’s like the nicest trailer in the park that is beautifully landscaped and painted…but is still a trailer in a trailer park.  Vast improvement over some of those Lanvin horrors.

  • reddhouston

IN..I think she looked great and stood out as the super star she is!

  • merciblahblah

It seemed like the color shouldn’t work to me either, but nevertheless, I thought she looked gorgeous. Her hair and makeup were perfection.

  • I’m going to say IN because with as often as she looks terrible, she really does look lovely here.  I’m not sold on the color for her, and she needed more jewelry, but the rest of the look outweighs that.

  • OUT. It looks like it’s got a spanx panel sewn in and it still makes her look wide.

  • allj

OUT! Mostly because of the seam directly under the bust.

  • betorah

As Herman Caine’s Teutonic doppelganger would say: “Nein, nein, nein.” Makes her look thick through the middle and the color is wrong, wrong, wrong.

  • lesmaha

Out. I’m relieved that I can’t see her nipples, but I still hate the dress.

  • Jess5628

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Ok, the silhouette isn’t so bad, but no.

  • Release her from the banana!!

  • Matthew Dinda

I have to give her an IN! As much as I am recoiling at the color, I am totally mesmerized by how different it is, and she looks radiant.

  • LittleKarnak

It looked more like a neon-ish yellow-green color on my TV, which I liked. This…not so much…Out!

  • BigWhiteGrannyPanties

IN!  Because she is wearing a dress of one color and of sleeves that are the same length!  And I can’t see her nipples!  Or too much leg!  IN!

  • IN!!! You guys, that IS her color. That’s why she looks so radiant. Loved this on her and thought she looked more pulled together than usual. When you’re a pale, redhead like me and Juli M., well let’s just say that your sunburn is our radiant.

  • LambeeBaby

In, although I can’t articulate why, she just looks lovely.

  • i loved this! make-up could be better but it’s chic as shit. IN!

  • nancymae

At first glance, my eyes hurt but upon closer inspection, I have got yo give her an IN. She looks so radiant, how could she not be IN?!

  • Judih1

This is a couture dress????? I’d expect something that cost so much – and from Dior-no less- to look better than this. But I give her an IN for the bold color and this is a big improvement over her other big name designer looks.

Everything that is shiny is not gold – and certainly everytyhing that comes from a couture house is NOT pretty

  • An in from me!

  • Loudoun Family

No, ketchup and mustard should not be mixed unless it’s on your hamburger.  Which, her hair does remind me of Ronald McDonald’s.  Does LA not have conditioner?

  • Damien W

OUT. It’s an 80s art piece meant to be worn by twigs like the runway model above. Pinch the shoulders a little so that they’re slightly more pointy, and it’s vintage Grace Jones. Totally wrong for Julianne.

  • travelingcat

Out. That bodice is so poorly fitted and unflattering. The color is gorgeous and she’s gorgeous, but there’s no saving that poorly fitted shape.

  • Although the top looks a bit like UnderArmour, I have to admit I like this–mostly because she seems to be carrying it off well rather than because it is good on merits. I’m voting IN.

  • Hair, makeup, and dress shape IN. Unflattering neckline and color OUT.

  • out. tailoring trumps all.

  • I think she looks fabulous.  Her skin just glows.  Somehow that odd lemon meringue shade suits her coloring to a ‘T’.  And I actually like the cut, material and neckline.  Frankly I think it looks way better on her than the model.  IN.

  • Is voting still open?  I think she’s got something against looking pretty, honestly.  I mean really, consciously — she wants to make statements or something, and thinks pretty won’t do it.  Given that, I like this look. It’s a little jarring, but it’s meant to be, but in her way she looks great (and totally head-turning).  Also, fabulous hair.  IN.

  • Carlos Abreu

it always looks better on the model… why do u insist posting the models photo… those girls are a size 0 and pretty much any shit rack they put on looks good on them… they are paid for that… i love this look… it’s a statement… a high waisted skirt and a simple long sleeve top…. who would wear that??? u go julianne…

  • Gorengirl

In… she looks beautiful. She is usually a hot damn mess on the rc…..

  • Aurumgirl

I think she is the only woman in yellow at this event who actually can wear the colour.  And yes, I know it’s a rule about redheads and colours–but I agree that the rules stick for a reason.  Redheads can wear yellows, greens, blues, and browns better than anyone else, and Julianne Moore looks radiant in this colour where everyone else in yellow just looks sallow.

I do agree that the dress itself isn’t as pretty as it could be.

I love the shape, but it only works on willowy, 9 feet tall gazelles aka 16-year-old models. And the color, while beautiful, just doesn’t work for her in such abundance. If it weren’t so covered up from neck to ankle (and arms!) it could be ok, but that sheer amount of BRIGHT yellow over-powers her. OUT because I am looking at the dress, but I forgot Julianne was even there!

  • Buffy

I think she looks great!  I love the color on here.  And thank god she wore a bra 😀

  • Allyson Wells

IN! I think it’s a great color on her, and somewhat unexpected from a red head. That dress is beautiful and she looks gorgeous!

  • IN IN IN.  Looks amazing.

  • Jessica O’Connell

I’m going to say out…  The bodice is just a little too off for me.

  • LesYeuxHiboux

I hate the dress when I can see her face, but when I cover the dress her head looks lovely (fading lipstick not withstanding). When I cover her head I, like the dress. So I guess that’s an OUT.

She looks so pink. This could have been a real stunner (in a good way) if that yellow were just a touch less saturated.

  • instantkarmalr

The bra is a bit too noticeable, but I give her an in. She looks beautiful!

  • In, if I’m not too late.

  • lalahartma

    I liked it!

  • joe_tey83

I really like her as an actress even though she dressed like shit most of the time. So, I am gonna grade on a curve and give her a small “in”.

  • IN!  I absolutely love this!

  • margaret meyers

I’m missing the nipples.  Is it just me?

  • KathKo

    She looks fresh and lovely.
I don’t find that yellow clashing with her complexion and hair color.
I get the construction of the dress, the whole purpose of the stiff bodice is to be in opposition with the sheerness and softness of the top, but that’s completely unpractical out of the runway.
No actress would flash her nipples to paparazzi, even in a Dior dress… OK, maybe some of them but they don’t have Julianne Moore’s class.

  • OUT. If only it had been a different color, because the cut is flattering, I bet it moves beautifully (I didn’t watch the red carpets or the show itself), and you can tell she feels beautiful in it. Hell, her hair and makeup are beautiful… But the dress’s color is intensely unflattering to her coloring. I wish she would have gone with turquoise, aqua, or peacock green instead.

  • So f’ing OUT.  At least she wore the right underpinnings for that bodice.

  • TieDye64

I cannot stand this color on her. It makes her look so pink she’s veering into lobster territory, which is exactly what it would do on me (a fellow redhead). OUT!

  • MichaelStrangeways

IN! But, it looked better on TV than in these stills.

  • She looks happy, maybe because her new life as a whirling dirvish is much more gratifying than her life in hollywood?  It’s in-ish about as much as it’s out-ish.  I’d say baby ‘in’ because I like to be encouraging to someone with so many horror stories.  Rememeber those shoes?  Ugh.

  • I loved it. Best look of the night.

  • Presumptuous Insect

GAH!  Nevermind the color. The dress makes it look like the top of her body was plopped down onto the bottom part of the dress, kind of like the Borg Queen. But the Borg Queen’s outfit was better. OUT OUT OUT.

  • I commend her for taking a risk.  That’s a lot of yellow, and from some angles, the dress makes her look a little thick-waisted.  But you can tell she loves wearing it, and that counts for a lot.

  • Warmheartedgirl Seattle

I didn’t like it, mostly because of the color.  OUT.

  • oohsparkley!

  • Even though I think it was entirely inappropriate for the weather, I say In.  It’s striking.
