Emma Stone in Calvin Klein

Posted on September 18, 2012

We dig this super-hard. In fact, we’re thinking Miss Emma does so much better with her clothes when she’s not poledancing for a movie release.

Emma Stone attends a private dinner to celebrate Calvin Klein Collection in New York City.

Calvin Klein Resort 2013 Collection/Model: Ava Smith

That’s sleek and retro-modern; a perfect look for her. Love that color, which isn’t going to work for everyone but works perfectly for Emma.  The hair and makeup are pretty much perfect for the look. She looks adorable and chic.

Those shoes are an abomination unto the Lord. They make us weep. They’re clunky and heavy and they clash with the brilliant green of the outfit. A pair of gold strappies, honey. Was that so hard to figure out? Also, are you allergic to jewelry? Because this look is calling out for one big statement piece.

I don’t even care about the shoes because she looks SO AMAZING.

      • EveEve

Take note Elle Fanning – this is how to do the retro-modern without looking like a fashion victim. Emma’s smile alone is a wonderful accessory, even though I’d like to see her add a killer cuff and earrings.

    • Frank_821

The outfit has a chic Emma Peel vibe to it

    • mom2ajs5

I would take Emma’s over the runway model’s, but they are both awful!

      • http://www.ellenciompi.com/ NurseEllen

My sentiments exactly.  Her look, minus that middle-level rectangular cutout, is also better than the model’s.  But where is the big gold cocktail ring she should by all rights be sporting?

    • call_me_schmeg

      fresh! pretty! youth!

    • Judy_J

Now THAT’S how you wear pants! That is a beautiful outfit, except for those awful shoes.

    • BazoDee

Oh that color is perfection on her!! She is just stunning until you see her feet. And a cocktail ring or cuff would have been spot on. Sigh -now I’m dreaming of cocktail rings…well maybe just cocktails…

      • Sobaika

Starlets don’t wear enough jewelry these days. Accessorizing is a good thing!

        • 3boysful

And they get it–at least to borrow–for free!  Send it my way, li’l starlets.

        • TheOriginalLulu

Honestly! Call me old-fashioned but I prefer my movie stars dripping with jewels. I would even go so far as to say that the clothes are secondary.  A movie star in jeans, a t-shirt and a big honking pair of diamond earrings still looks like a movie star.

    • StelledelMare

This, Naya Rivera, is how your pants are supposed to look

    • annie_wonder

The shoes almost take it to Riddler level, but still she looks amazing. especially from the side.

      • AudreysMom

actually to me, although I adore this outfit and Emma in general, she stopped looking amazing at the side shot. Then she just looked too skinny. Maybe Emma is anyway, but she has one of those bodies that somehow continues to look slender and healthy. This view with the cut out? Plain old too skinny.

        • Meg0GayGuys6

I agree! When I scrolled to the side shot I thought “dang has she always been that skinny?”  She looks totally different in the two shots.

    • Verascity

I laugh, because I spent the entire post waiting for you to get to the shoes.

    • m0r0

Love the shoes and glad she’s not wearing any jewelry. She looks FANTASTIC.

      • Lizzyisi

I also love the shoes. She looks amazing, right down to those shoes.

        • http://phantomminuet.blogspot.com/ MinAgain

Oh, good.  I thought I was the only one.

        • oohsparkley!

Not alone. I like the shoes and especially with the outfit.

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_DJQMGJU7MZMBVLSD4GUTPJEPD4 murt

I like the shoes and lack of jewelry too – gives the whole look a more ’90s minimalist vibe. And the darker slightly clashing shoes ground the outfit a bit, make it a bit more casual in a good way.

    • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

For me, this is a WERQ, even the shoes are doing it for me.

    • MissAnnieRN

This is gorgeous!  Fullstop.  I am too distracted by how sexy, yet put-the-hell-together she looks.  Hair, make-up = perfection! to notice the shoes.

So glad she didn’t put that Game of Thrones inspired skirt thingamabob.  Reminds me of what the men wear as armor.  Don’t know what the hell they’re called.

    • Kayceed

She looks beautiful – love the color, love the neckline and bare back. Would like to see an inch or two more on the pants length, but that’s just me. (I’m ignoring the shoes, as they are awful.)

    • jw_ny

I completely agree with TLo comments on Emma’s outfit here, and she does seem to get it right off the RC more than on.  So glad she ditched the extra flaps that the model is wearing too…wtf are those?!

Reading through though, I kept saying  to myself ‘what about those awful shoes?’…you didn’t disappoint by eventually blasting them.  :)

    • schadenfreudelicious

Emma looks amazing, and thank goodness she ditched that thing the model is wearing around her hips..it reminds me of something one would wear to make change at a yard sale…

      • Kayceed

What is that thing? Some mod peplum-esque fanny pack?

    • Call me Bee

      She is just adorbs, no?
But, while one can never go wrong with CK, those are the worst shoes ever.  Yes–something strappy, and add a big gold cuff of some kind.

    • TheOriginalLulu

Agreed, TLo. A pair of gold strappy shoes and a big gold bracelet or big gold earrings and this would have been a WERQ. Actually, I still want to give it a WERQ, because she looks so fabulous. I’m really glad her version doesn’t include that weird holster that they put on the poor model.

      • meowing

“Holster”–perfect.  I was gonna complain about that “thing” but couldn’t find a word.  She looks lovely, and isn’t she a skinny little column of green, but in a nice way.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1013443339 Hannah Prutton

      LOVE IT.

    • CPK1

gorgeous. But for sure, some gorgeous strappy gold shoes and a fab cuff or cocktail ring and earrings would have added that finishing touch. Her shoes are hiddy but at least they are not quite as fug as the ones on the model.

    • http://twitter.com/MajorBedhead MajorBedhead

I don’t know if it’s the lighting or how it’s supposed to look, but the material reminds me of the color blindness test.

I think I kind of hate green.

    • holdstillnow

The shoes are pretty gross, but I didn’t think they were THAT bad.  Everything else is perfection.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_3JSTXMWWVZN2QNP2UEKJMTWD7U Isabel

“Those shoes are an abomination unto the Lord. They make us weep. ”
TLo, Who is the Judeo-Christian raised guy in the family? Your religious phrasing – I don’t see it much today and I love it!

    • ballerinawithagun

Great look for her body type, skin tone and hair. Great sixties vibe. So glad she didn’t wear the unflattering, low, ugly, hip peplum. You are so right about the shoes.

      • Anathema_Device

You are so right about her body type being perfect for this. Just as I come to terms with my middle-age hips, along comes an outfit that makes me sad I’ll never be able to wear such a thing…

    • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

Purple shos, while a little matchy, would work as well.

    • Kristy Evans

I actually don’t hate the shoes, I just think they’re wrong for that outfit. I think some gold flats would have been divine. That and a bangle.

    • afabulous50

Why can’t I afford nice things????

    • Anathema_Device

Love this on her so much that I’m willing to forgive the shoes. I don’t like them, but I get that she was going for a more retro feel with those. A bangle and some small but noticeable earrings really would have pushed this into WERQ territory for me.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Ginny-Ellsworth/534496198 Ginny Ellsworth

Ahhhhhhhhhhh, I’m just not seeing the love. The fabric looks thick and mottled like iguana skin even though the green is good. The belt (restraint, tie down, velcro strap) thickens her middle, hides her delicate curves and pokes out above the pants. And thank goodness she didn’t wear her Iguana Girl Emergency Peplum Belt with this. While the shoes might not be the best, the definitely win over the ones on the runway.

But she looks cute, fresh and happy not to be pole dancing. As pretty as she is as a blonde, I love her so much more as a ginger.

    • MarissaLG

Very pretty, very chic. I kind of miss when she looked like a normal human female and not a 6ft tall stick-thin robotron, though.

    • MarissaLG

    • snarkykitten

the fabric is making my skin crawl. D: All I could think is how terrible that texture must feel

      • alyce1213

It’s silk, no? I think the print gives the illusion of bad texture, but I’d hope they wouldn’t fabricate it in anything that feels awful.

    • Tatiana Luján

I hope she is keeping the clothes, so she can wear them in another ocassion, with a pair of shoes that actually go with the clothes.
From the ankles up she is looking gorgeous.

    • gabbilevy

She doesn’t always get it right, but moments like this make me think that Ems has the potential to become a Ph.D.-level dresser. She’s young, gorgeous, adventurous, and shows some unique instincts. Excited to see what she does going forward.

This, I LOVE. She looks fab.

    • janetjb

      She looks radiant.

    • Coralie Legister

I love it but a statement necklace would have kicked it up a notch. I don’t mind the ugly shoes.

    • EEKstl

She looks fab and… I don’t hate the shoes.  Even the model was wearing green shoes and Emma’s green trumps the model’s green (and yes, I can hear TLo saying two wrongs don’t make a right…).  It shouldn’t work and yet for me…it does.  Agree about the jewelry, tho.

    • http://www.facebook.com/bert.keeter Bert Keeter

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=518485090 Jesse Rabbits

The shoes could have been worse. I don’t mind it. Also, SHE IS SO THIN.

    • alyce1213

She’s made to wear Calvin Klein.

    • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

The shoes don’t bother me too much. I like them, though I think I might like a strappy gold heel better. And I’m SO glad she didn’t wear that apron thingy the model has on. She looks great – would have been a WERQ from me!

    • ojosazules

Besides the sasquatch-has-fun-with-moss shoes she looks damn good. But I’m not entirely on board with the upholstery fabric trend. It’s everywhere- people dressed up like very fashionable, elegant little sofas.

    • Snailstsichr

This color + her eyes = made to go together

    • marilyn

This outfit kills her shape.  She has no waist or boobs.  If that was what she was going for…..well then, great.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Julie-Chase/731391326 Julie Chase

      Check out that sexy back!

    • http://twitter.com/Elizabethann1 Elizabeth Denton

I actually kind of love the shoes. And this is one of my fav outfits she’s ever worn! But when did she get so crazy skinny?

    • http://www.facebook.com/aboutelle Ashleigh Boutelle

you are SO RIGHT about everything. I wish there was a way to edit the photo to show what you suggest…

    • Lilak

Yeah, a wee dash of jewelry + another shoe altogether would’ve locked this up tight . . . . Nevertheless, Miss Stone is a lesson in  kicky-chic right here!
And I’m glad to see This Year’s Green done with pizzazz for a change — not to mention, the two tones in the fabric are just right for her eye color.

    • MilaXX

LOVE the look. Glad she left off that weird skirt thingy. I don’t mind the shoes, but agree a gold pump would have worked, but I think she wanted it to be a bit low key in which case i think this is one occasion where a nude, but not platform pump may have worked. Hair & makeup work well. All she needed was a big cocktail ring or cuff bracelet.

    • Zippypie

I like the shoes.  They’re casual and retro, like the outfit.  Gold strappies would have been too glam.

Love the look the way she’s wearing it.  Like it much better on her than the model.  That being said, she needs to gain 5 pounds.  She’s scary skinny.

    • Mary229

She is always adorable but—and please don’t stone me for saying this—but she’s just too thin for me.  It’s painful looking.

Yes, I know she’s naturally slim.  But i’ve also seen Superbad and some of her earlier movies where wasn’t quite :this:: thin.

    • Lisa Dugan

A gold cuff and gold shoes and this would have been perfection.  Great though.

    • http://blue-again.myopenid.com/ blue

      I love the shoes!

    • Monabel

I like the shoes, too. And, color!!

    • HomeOfficeGirl

      You nailed it, TLO!

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_F73LIJ3SJGI5AJQMXMWXCKILHI Pamela

Sorry, I cannot abide the high-water pants which are so in vogue now.  It looks silly to me.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Inês-Martins/100000345906318 Inês Martins

      WOW… Love it!!

    • http://twitter.com/aidanboleyn Aidan B

I actually said “day-um!” aloud when I saw this. She looks fantastic! Agree with the hell-shoes, though.

    • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

LOVE this, head to ankles!  Because it’s all perfect till you get to those shoes, baby!

    • http://www.facebook.com/tom.r.markiewicz Tom Markiewicz

i think you guys have a metallic sandal fetish… sometimes, a clean monochromatic look can be awesome! like here, where i think she couldn’t have done a necklace, but a cuff or ring would have thrown off the balance of the look, and i think earrings would have taken focus off the outfit. i think she was smart, she’s attending a calvin klein function so she goes for striking minimalism. clever girl.

The shoes kill me more than anything. A cuff or a bangle would’ve helped, but it certainly wasn’t 100% necessary but MY GOD. The SHOES. Such sadness because this is a really great look, otherwise.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_DJQMGJU7MZMBVLSD4GUTPJEPD4 murt

       kind of ’90s meets ’60s.

    • neofashionista

LOVe this. in terms of jewlery sometimes i wonder if stars are afraid of it because it is just one more thing they could and potentially might fuck up!?!

    • ccm800

I dig the lack of jewelry with this. I too hate the shoes.
