Christian Siriano Spring 2013 Collection

Posted on September 10, 2012

Inspired by a recent performance of the American Ballet Theatre’s “The Dream,” Christian Siriano offered up an ethereal collection of pale pastels and ultra-femininity; lots of pearl encrusted details, white feathers, and tulle. Part princess, part ballerina; with a modern feel to it. Love the polka dot pieces and the separates especially. But as always, it’s the signature Siriano gowns that take your breath away.

Love, love, LOVE those top three dresses.  I’m sure we’ll be seeing them during awards season, maybe on some of the younger actresses.

      • kikisayshi

Me too! As soon as I saw them I had to stop scrolling and admire for a minute.

        • JosephLamour

It’s the shirtmaxi (i hope im coining something here) second row middle and the very last dress for me. Shows Costello-lite how to make a dress like that, right?

          • Wendi126

The shirtmaxi seems very Lauren Hutten in the 70’s.

      • http://profile.yahoo.com/JQHYJOCQ3ZGU7V4C6HXMMX4XYE Meghan Hoffman

I completely agree.  They are so lovely and floaty.

    • Meg0GayGuys6

I would have loved to see this show in person- Looks like a lot of details in those white pieces would have been easier to appreciate in person.  I love just about everything in this collection!

      • phoenix4

agreed.  these are some colours that do not photograph well.

        • Weaseltease

Seconded.  On my scroll-through, I kept adjusting my monitor settings, sure that there were details I was missing.  I’d love to see this in person.  Go puffysleeves!

    • VicksieDo

This is my favorite collection of NYFW so far, I absolutely, without reservation, LOVE IT.  So feminine and fierce at the same time.

    • RoxieRider

I feel like I can’t really make out the details very well. But I love all the shoes.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Ailsa-Martin/644946901 Ailsa Martin

Very cute. Some of it’s bordering on too pretty-pretty-princess, but I would certainly wear a lot of it.

    • Roosevelt 85

I dunno…I mean, it’s great but I saw WAY too many influences here like Givenchy, Marchesa, and Jil Sander

      • Glammie

Yep.  It’s pretty.  I think it will sell like crazy, but it doesn’t have that unexpected zing that just kind of blows you away.  But there’s always room for pretty, wearable dresses, even if we’ve seen stuff like them before.

      • lovelyivy

Agreed. Pretty, but not htat exciting or fresh. Plus the color story is kinda blah- a few people upthread have already mentioned they couldn’t make out the details on the dresses. That will be a problem.

    • Joyce VG

      LOVE IT!  It’s all Fierce.

    • http://www.twitter.com/allforusophia AllForUSophia

The last 3 gowns are divine! Very elegant and ethereal, both in colour and fabric. Christian did it again!

    • newleaf1

These are so lovely and ladylike – even the non girly girl pieces still say lady.

    • Elizabeth Neumann

Oof…I’m not a fan of the print used in the 2nd and 3rd rows.  It looks like blood spots.

The first dress in the 3rd row makes me want to loan her a long cardigan to cover up a that-time-of-the-month accident.  Not a great look!

      • Tatiana Luján

I, on the other hand, love that print. it looks like a winter sunset.

      • mbelchic

        I didn’t see it before-You may have a point-Pretty just the same-

    • Aurumgirl

It’s really beautiful, all of it.  Shoes too.

    • VicksieDo

      Watch them move, it’s divine

    • http://twitter.com/kbshee kbshee

What I like is that some of the dresses look like they could be worn by the ‘every day woman’.

    • VicksieDo

He posted the video on his FB if anyone wants to see them move, it’s awesome.

    • janierainie

      Very pretty.

    • fringebenefit

The little fellow has not put a foot wrong with this collection. Ethereal, memorable, and infinitely wearable.

    • Araina23

Just kind of looks washed out.

      • kimmeister

It is, but Nina Garcia did declare pastels to be all the rage this season . . .

    • Sally3000

      WOW. Beautiful!

    • ASK26

Where does he sell his work. (Other than his payless line). His work really does seem very good. I assume that he might be the moat successful price alum?

    • LesYeuxHiboux

Lovely. Every lady will want these pieces. He did ballerina without going costume: delicate and graceful. This would be a fun collection to play pretend stylist with. I appreciate the range of shapes, there are garments here for many different body types. Love that suit in the middle of the first row and the dress third row middle, if I were shopping for myself.

    • Judy_J

Really nice collection.  The clothes look wearable, beautiful, feminine without being too girly.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jessica-TallGirl-Freeman/1043623567 Jessica TallGirl Freeman

Bravo Christian, not that I expected any less.  It’s been fantastic to watch him grow.

      • Kristin McNamara

Wait… do we not call him Princess Puffysleeves anymore?

        • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jessica-TallGirl-Freeman/1043623567 Jessica TallGirl Freeman

Right? That first collection on PR was really puffy…..

          • hoez

He had to get the puffs out of his system. :P

    • Ceur

It’s quite rare one of my first impressions are ‘wearable’, but here it is. And that’s a good thing.

    • DinaSews

I LOVE this.  These pieces are figure flattering and could imagine a plus size version.  I especially love the fresh face and top knot bun.  I also think it is very cool to have seen him grow from his beginning until now.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1396777506 Christin Pardy-Nosenchuk

wow! Not a black garment to be seen!  I love this collection.  Is it me, or is he the only designer that really has done anything since PR win?

      • MilaXX

He’s the only one playing the big designer field. I think several of the others are doing quieter things. Korto showed at fashion week, Jay continues to designer (T & o have been tweeting pics of themselves wearing his socks). Emilio is still working as a costume designer. We all know what Chris march has been up to. I even saw Diana Eng on some tech website. Those are all I could think of off the top of my head.

      • sleepycat

Leanne Marshall is in New York and I think she shows during the week, but not at the tents. She is also a bridal designer.

    • http://www.facebook.com/WendyLKaufman Wendy Kaufman

      I am in awe. Wow.

    • http://twitter.com/flatjean Emma Jean

No puffy sleeves? No black? I think the reason Siriano has been successful is because while he certainly always HAS a viewpoint (overtly feminine but with a sense of humor about it, maybe is a good way to describe it?) he’s able to adapt to trends.

    • hughman

      It’s all very Barbie.

    • Griffinqueen

I don’t know–I guess I’m in the minority here, but I’m a little underwhelmed. It feels too …obvious.

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Linda-Harris/1358701372 Linda Harris

I agree with you. It seems very simple and I’m not fond of the colors

      • charlotte

I agree. Nothing takes my breath away here.

      • Alisa Rivera

Very pretty but I think it’s derivative of a lot of other designers. Then again, Victoria Beckham is building an empire on being derivative, so…

      • http://profiles.google.com/marteani Barbara Guttman

I’m in your boat.  I feel a little more underwhelmed with each collection and none of these gowns wow me.  The most interesting this for me is that print in the second and third rows, and even then…

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_NUZ2RGIDRXKK6ADHFPPCR6S3WI MariaM

To me, it’s like Marchesa and Calvin Klein had a dull child.  There’s nothing ugly, but I don’t love it either.

    • http://twitter.com/MajorBedhead MajorBedhead

I’ll have one of each, please.

    • PinkLemon

personal best!! those separates are TO DIE.

    • Judy_S

I like the daytime looks best here. Not what I would expect from him but very attractive clothes. The tutus just look like tutus, to my eye.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_LI35AZLWSZEYRDZ4PUCBHUCZUI Jonathan

I am kind of amazed by how much he has grown as a designer since his project runway days. from FIERCE FIERCE FIERCE to something that is unabashedly pretty without being boring or expected is just awesome. Well done :)

    • Snailstsichr

Bottom row, the gown in the middle would be fantastic for a winter wedding. It has sleeves!

    • kikisayshi

Now THIS is why I love love LOVE me some Christian Siriano. Fierce.

    • SophiaPehawkins

His growth as a designer has been incredible to watch. The collection is so light and refreshing.

    • alyce1213

He’s come a long way.  I’ve been a sometime fan of his work, thought it was occasionally derivative and overrated, but I do love these.  Still a bit derivative (top row Marchesa/Saab), but they are totally pretty and wearable.  Women will want these.

    • http://twitter.com/starrika Ali

Love the whole collection, but the top three gowns look like Elie Saab knockoffs. Still, there are worse things! I love how he keeps growing as a designer.

    • http://twitter.com/LianaBrooks Liana Brooks

Gray seems to be a popular color for spring. I was hoping for something a little more vibrant.

      • MilaXX

I’m seeing lots of greys with pink/blue pastels and then on the other side of the spectrum I see a lot of that really vibrant yellow.

    • Rand Ortega

His. Best. Collection. Ever! 2nd dress, 2nd row made me gasp AND put my hand to my chest like I had the Scarlett O’Hara vapors. Dreamy, modern, feminine & delicate all at the same time. 3 snaps & a swirl, PPS! Well Done!

    • BuffaloBarbara

I love all of these, especially the middle dress in the third row, and the first gown in the last row.  Hope it sells well!

    • http://twitter.com/shinobi42 Shinobi

I literally sighed aloud when I saw those first 3 dresses.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_PRM766RS56X25A5742XLACK2LM Sam

I like how the shoes on his models look like shoes and not Medieval torture devices.

      • alyce1213

Thanks for pointing that out.  I went back to look again, beautiful shoes.

    • sleepycat

Best collection so far from him, at least in my book

    • MilaXX

Really pretty! I like pretty much this entire collection. The only exception is the middle one in the second row from the bottom. Still this is gorgeous as a whole.

    • Tatiana Luján

      Gorgeous.
Don’t you see Elie Saab in this collection?

    • Zippypie

OMG – These are FABULOUS!  Go, PPS!  Romantic and etherial without slamming it over your head with a sledgehammer.

And that polka-dot dress with the pink jacket…it’s MINE!

    • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

I really love this collection. Christian is constantly maturing as a designer, and this collection is indicative of that. Everything is really classy and elegant.

    • Sepianne

The polka separates – sigh. Just love ‘em. But what’s wrong with the model in the last pic? It’s like her forehead makes her glum.

    • CarolinLA

Practically the same color palette as Fabio’s collection.  Maybe he has a better shot than we think.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Louise-Bryan/1177213326 Louise Bryan

Very nice collection, if just a tad overly pastel.  Twenty years younger and 60 # lighter, and I’d like some of ‘em.

    • IMNAngryLiberal

I always find CS’s collections to be pretty, but not very memorable — and about as far from fierce and edgy as you can get.

    • e jerry powell

Very, very girly.  Cute.  My 9-year-old niece would serve it in some cut-down versions.

    • ChelseaNH

Go, Princess Puffysleeves!  Very nice collection.

    • marilyn

The top 3 dresses are beautiful, but look a little too 1960’s-lingerie-ish for me.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Erin-Hines/620149309 Erin Hines

is it me..or do some of those prints look like the models were stabbed right before walking the runway?

    • EEKstl

He just gets better and better.  Really good work.

    • http://asskickingadviser.com/ Ass Kicking Adviser

I am still waiting to be able to easily identify a collection of Christian’s as being Christian’s. Do you know what I mean? I think of him as having a very defined look but in the last few collections – though there have been pieces that I liked – I find that I am not getting his vibe. There certainly isn’t a lot of fierce in this collection. In fact there are some pieces that are downright matronly.

    • Kate4queen

I really like it. The long one in the middle of the second row down? Mine. :) (oh and while I’m pushing my luck, I’ll take the one directly underneath it too)

    • http://twitter.com/TMamBo Therese Bohn

Oh, if I have the money and was at my ideal weight (and probably 15 years younger)  I’d definitely any of these in the third row from the bottom!   Beautiful.

    • ccm800

Heh!  I  kind of love it all!

    • Call me Bee

Wow–this is all so beautiful, even the more tailored pieces.  Also love the absence (well, almost) of goofy platform shoes.  All the clothes are styled perfectly.  Feminine, ladylike and wearable.  Well done, Christian!

    • jmorino08

A lot of those pieces are very Audrey Hepburn, which makes sense since she was a dancer and always carried that sensibility about her. The sneakers with the little white dress were an odd styling choice, but good on him for having the guts to stick those in there. The entire collection is amazing and I especially love that print that looks like a painting of the sea.

    • http://cheekypinky.wordpress.com/ Rebecca

He just really keeps getting better as a designer, doesn’t he?

    • tallgirl1204

Not loving the boxy jackets or the late-seventies prints.  But the gowns are lovely.

    • GenieinTX

I love it.  So girly girl.  I really want that pink leather jacket.

    • http://profiles.google.com/rosatcollege Ros Clarke

Oooh, pretty!  I feel like he’s really growing up as a designer and each collection is getting better and better.

    • guest2visits

Many, many pretty things – more than I can list.  Pretty shoes too; I wonder if they are Christian’s also.

    • http://profiles.google.com/saramichelef Sarah Michele Ford

Gorgeous. His work has matured SO WELL since PR.

    • Susan Crawford

Gorgeous, chic and ultra-feminine. Each season, Siriano gets better and better! And he’s learned a thing or two about editing while remaining true to his original point of view. SOOO glamorous.

    • ballerinawithagun

Very impressive! He as matured into a great designer.

    • http://twitter.com/thesquizz Lauren

Every time I see his name associated with a store or a runway shoe or mentioned on the Red Carpet, I fill with a sense pride in our little boy done good. Good on you, Christian!

    • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

I love Christian so MUCH!  All of this is so completely and totally gorgeous – I love it all!  Good for you, you little imp!

    • quiltrx

I pretty much love all of these.  Well done, Princess!

    • jahphotogal

The word that immediately comes to mind is confident.  the second word is proportion. He’s confident in his shapes, fabric choices, colors – he can keep it simple without being boring. And the proportions are very pleasing. well done.

    • boweryboy

I’m strangely underwhelmed.  I miss his explosions of tulle dresses.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_2CNDPMVO4W23R5TVC2QMTJ5BZE Heather

      Wow. Nice work, Princess.

    • another_laura

Some of the shoulders look like they are inspired by the FLOTUS “guns” – room for very well-developed shoulders ?

    • Pennymac

I love it all! The gowns are true “MOMENTS!”

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_RHLSUVX3NCPB4OSS5BM7GZIXUE P. Capet

what a nice surprise!  chic and sharply edited.  so many looks people will actually want to wear.

    • LambeeBaby

I LOVE everything. Project Runway absolutely got it right that season. He is incredibly talented.

    • miagain

      He’s grown up!!

    • toriadoria

He sure loves his pale white models.

    • cz_vee

Middle maxi dress, second row. Mine. Minemineminemine.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jackie-Crowley/100002173366874 Jackie Crowley

Real wearable yet pretty shoes – I swoon

    • mozzer0906

      Gorgeous.

    • libraangel

Gorgeous gowns!!! other stuff (pants, etc) not so much

    • libraangel

Gorgeous gowns!!! but not so much other stuff (pants, etc)

    • nancylee61

Dull as dishwater. Is he even around long enough to have “signature” gowns? He needs to go back to school.
