Britney Spears in Stella McCartney

Posted on September 14, 2012

We’re not even going to bother submitting this one to an IN or OUT vote because the Bitter Kittens have made it very clear that they hate anything with the name Stella McCartney on it.

Britney Spears attends the premiere of ‘The X Factor’ Season 2 in an Stella McCartney dress.

Stella McCartney Pre-Fall 2012 Collection/Model: Marique Schimmel

But this is not at all a bad dress. And part of what makes it appealing to us is that it represents a step forward for Brit. Let’s face it: the gal’s dressing skills tend towards the tacky and the slightly slutty. To see her in something like this; something with a tiny bit of sophistication; something with a message to it other than “look at my tits and legs,” well… that’s a good thing, as far as we’re concerned.

Unfortunately, Brit still has a tendency to wear things far too tight and this dress, while very tailored, is not meant to be squeezed into. What it’s doing across her midsection is just tragic. And we don’t love reverse darts in most cases, but the effect is ruined here because the dress is so tight on her. Kind of a shame. Had she gone up a size, she could have managed a trick she’s never been able to before; she could have looked chic.

In other news, she needs a new hairstyle and her eye makeup is a little scary.

The expression on her face says she’s five seconds away from bolting out of an emergency exit and setting off all the alarms.

It’s a fine dress (especially for Brit) , but the darts and the fit are annoying. But still. Things are looking up.

    • e m

LOL. That’s what I wanted to say ^^ It’s not the eye make-up that is scary….it’s the expression on her face.

      (Hate the shoes btw)

      • LambeeBaby

Whoa! She does look like she is going to run out of there screaming.
The dress would have been passable if it was one size larger.

    • TheDivineMissAnn

Things are looking up!   She had the good sense to not wear those ridiculous pants the model is wearing.

ETA – it seems like she’s ready to bolt in most of the pictures taken of her lately. Maybe her heart’s not in it anymore and she just wants to spend more time with her kids and family.

      • Warmheartedgirl Seattle

Amen!  Those pants are one of the few things that could have made this look worse!

  • VicksieDo

I agree.  And her ankle looks all infected or something.

    • sarahjane1912

Ick. Looks like vermin have had a nibble on it.

      • anotherkate

It’s funny, I actually have a similar wound on my ankle from sliding into second base…maybe Brit’s a softball player? If so, that’s pretty badass.

  • At least her hair is clean.  That makeup is tragic.

    • BerlinerNYC

Of course it’s clean. They took it out of its package and glued it onto her head 10 minutes before these pictures were taken.

  • lbl

This is what happens when you force people to smile for the camera.

On topic: ugh, Stella McCartney. *eyeroll*

  • imperfectlaura

I actually like this.  It has sophistication, but also some edge with that print.  I’m definitely with you on the fit, but had this been an in or out post, my vote would definitely be IN because Britney’s definitely moving in the right direction.

  • DinaSews

What’s with the inverted darts?  While I don’t agree with them as a design element (detest actually), to put them on a dress with an attention gathering print is just distracting.

    • Lori

That’s our Stella. AFAICT she just has no clue. She takes design elements and throws them together as if she has no concept what they’re meant to do. I guess maybe she thinks she’s being edgey or something, but it always comes off as a C- effort in the first semester of design school.

On the plus side, at least this dress doesn’t look as if she designed it without ever having seen a human body, so props for that.

    • Kayceed

Bad design decisions are her trademark.

    • CT14

      They’re like boob wings here.

  • I wanted to like this so much.  The color is good and the dress is — like you boys said — a step forward for Brit Brit.  However, yeah, that fit is SO tragic.  Also, can we all agree to ditch the hair extensions?  Pretty please?  They look terrible.

    •  I agree on every point. That blue is gorgeous! I am not convinced about the psychedelic crotch explosion though.

  • Anna Tree

Can I make a firecrotch joke? Because I have several.

    • Introspective

exactly. I was just thinking about the horror of what its like to have paisley attack your vagina as I gazed at brit-brit in this mess. stella + britney= clusterfuck. and you all know it.

      • Anna Tree

Yes! It looks like she is giving birth to that print like it is the shadow baby from GOT

    • LesYeuxHiboux

       I recommend a list.

  • One size up for sure and thank GOD she is not wearing the pants with it.

    • TheDivineMissAnn

OH YES!!! Those pants are a nightmare.

  • Well at least she’s covered for once. That’s about all I can say about it. Oh and too tight. Yikes.

  • Smitty_Werbenjagermanjensen

She’s so pretty when she isn’t forced to smile
Brit-Brit, get your ankle looked at

    • leftcoastpickle

Is she in the midst of tattoo removal?

  • G

And she needs to learn how to unclench her teeth.

  • ojosazules

Too bad she didn’t wear the matching hideous pants.

  • janetjb

Good news!  She’s covered and wearing an okay dress.

  • So sad her people let her squeeze into that dress and go out in public. Don’t look at the number, lady, focus on the fit.

  • kcliff

Did anyone see her on Ellen the other day? She looked amazing, in a red dress with a similar silhouette. It was a skosh too tight as well, but her hair looked good.

    • charlotte

Right? I just thought of that, too.

  • Those Best Buy signs are distracting and funny.

  • Eclectic Mayhem

Yes… a wee bit ticht and her eye make-up looks like two burnt holes in a blanket

  • Jessi03

Poor thing looks so very uncomfortable.

  • schadenfreudelicious

can we have a new feature called “Girl, go up a size”?

    • Pants_are_a_must

“Girl, That Is Not Your Size”!

      • schadenfreudelicious

      • MilaXX

Yes! that would take into account both the too small and too big dresses.

  • Squarah

It’s so depressing to see pictures of her. She looks so damn miserable, lost, confused, and uncomfortable. Girlfriend needs a hug and a break.

  • 3boysful

Cute dress, but needs the size up.

And, Brit–Tammy Faye wants her eye makeup back.

  • I can hear the fabric of the dress weep.

  • Judy_S

She looks like a normal person. In a dress that’s too small. Not chic but not ridiculous or completely unaware.
I note the external darts, which are a major reason not to wear the dress too tight.

  • TheLaurenJean

Poor thing, she looks terrified! But for Britney, she looks FANTASTIC! So, ya know, good for her!

  • teensmom99

Of course you gentlemen are 100% correct but then I noticed that the always perfect & chic Kerry Washington had worn this dress in the correct size  Surprisingly (unless you’re a kitten who hates Stella) the dress did not look as good as I thought it would even on Ms. W.  So I guess some of the problem is Stella’s–it’s an almost good dress but not there.

  • She looks so much better here than she does on the show. I really don’t understand why they don’t force some TV show-funded stylists on her.

    • Snailstsichr

That would be a kindness to everyone.

    • I understand that she requires the Herve Ledger dresses…you know that diva is not being told what to wear.

  • ohayayay

She looks like my Aunt Shelly from East Tennessee. That’s not necessarily a bad thing but, woah, it’s weird. PS Shelly is a 45 y/o compulsive gambler…

  • I don’t hate Stella McCartney. A friend has a friend who works for her and says she treats her employees very well. And my friend had lunch with her, when she was in town and she took all her employees out to lunch and he joined them, and said she was very nice.

    • Her clothes are something else though.

  • she looks very uncomfortable, like she has no idea how to pose other than “look at my tits and legs” …

  • the dress is nice though

  • Valdri8

I want to hire myself out in Hollywood as a professional best friend, because a friend would say, “Britt, honey, that dress is too fuckining tight and your hair is too fucking long, and as your friend I cannot let you go out looking like that.” Haven’t we all done that for a bestie on a big night? Actually, I am going to send Wynonna Judd and Christina Hendricks resumes first.

  • Doesn’t this girl have any gay friends to advise her on how to dress?

  • Pants_are_a_must

What’s happening above the neck is mildly frightening, to be honest. Between that make up and that weave, she looks like she’s wearing a Britney Spears Halloween costume.

Those are BAD SHOES. This is a dress that, swimming suit material aside, CALLS for a black pump. Wtf.

  • Even though I feel pain by looking how tight it is, I can’t deny that it’s a step in the right direction.

But, THAT HAIR! Ugh, those hair extensions look positively plastic.

  • ecallaw1977

Her style is tragic, but can I just say that I have been shocked at how entertaining she has been on The X Factor?  I really thought she would be boring and stupid, but so far she’s been a really great addition.

    • paginatrix

Yes. I’m no fan of hers, but I kind of love her on the show. She looks better than usual there, too.

  • Vickiefantastico

The reverse darts are unfortunate, but otherwise, I really like this. And I know I’m in the minority, but I actually think it looks better tight. This might be one of the first times I like a Stella dress. Or a Stella anything.

  • I can’t get past her eyes, which look hunted and haunted and on the verge of a complete breakdown. I don’t have any particular fondness for Britney, but man, she makes me want to wrap her up in an eiderdown and force her to sleep for, like, a month. She just looks so, so sad and lost all the time.

    • formerlyAnon

I’d say she looks “deeply anxious” all the time.

  • LadyCelia

Half of an ill-fitting salwar kameez.  And exposed darts are an instrument of the debil.

  • One size up! One size up!

  • LesYeuxHiboux

I actually like this dress. It’s a lovely color for her and orange-blue is my favorite complementary color pair. It’s such a shame that it is so tight, because the reverse-dart torso gills are not an easy element to work and the way that dress is straining ensured that they wouldn’t flatter. I love the patterned elements, thought I am not crazy about their placement. Looks like a graffiti-monster is eating her crotch. STELLLLLAAAAA!

Had a long Facebook discussion last night about how rough she’s looking from the neck up.

    • MilaXX

Her weaves are always so obviously bad. I shudder to think what her real hair looks like at this point.

      • LesYeuxHiboux

I have been wondering if her hair did not grow back with the same color/texture after she shaved it. It was already so chemically damaged at the time.

        • BerlinerNYC

When exactly have we seen “her” “hair”?

          • LesYeuxHiboux

Mickey Mouse Club? I think circa “Baby One More Time” and her first album cover she only had highlights. She started the downward spiral to platinum blonde in the “Sometimes” video. It seems like whoever does her hair has just said “Forget it, we’re covering this shit with a hair carpet.” since the head shave.

  • holdmewhileimnaked

i think it’s only really a good dress on the very narrow–by which i dont mean thin, BS is thin these days–but narrow, like the model. it’s a different thing entirely & the reason it looks best on these types is the placement, widthwise, of the pattern.

but it isnt too bad even here, other than its tightness. which isnt even that bad–i’m gonna be charitable & say she may have been in a position where, were it not tight where it was tight, it wouldve been way too loose elsewhere. probably not, in this case [sighing] but it happens. elsewise, though, she looks like a weary, young middle aged southern woman. very typical.

    • formerlyAnon

“she looks like a weary, young middle aged southern woman”

Yes. Though more anxious than average, IMO.

  • Pretty sure we’ve seen this on someone else this year already.  Its the print in relation to her lady bits that is odd.  I quite like the dress overall, and after watching her X Factor dresses for the last 2 days, I’m just glad I’m not seeing her boobs.

    • mshesterp

Thank YOU.  I was wondering where I’d seen it before, but i knew TLo showed it.  I like it better on Kerry, but still not a lot.  It’s not on my irrational Stella M hate list of looks, but it’s not great.

  • sarahjane1912

Sorry. Epic fail. I appreciate that Brits is going for a mature look but quite apart from it looking like sausage casing, I’m one BK for whom Stella McCartney is NOT bathed in a light that never was. Moreover, while I heart a strong blue, the orange/black appliqued embroidery just grates with me. All I could think when I saw it was ‘chicken tikka for me’. Bad Indian restaurant vibe, I’m afraid.

  • I disagree about the hair! That is the best her weave has looked in YEARS.

And not that anyone’s asking me, but I would have voted IN, all the way. This is the best she’s looked in forever.

  • lehen

agree on all counts – good dress, too small.  eye makeup that’s stuck in the 90’s.

  • Judy_J

She looks uncomfortable and her frozen smile says it all.

  • nannypoo

I like the dress. I would like it even better if it weren’t so tight. I’ve been watching her show because I assumed people would be talking about how bad she is as a judge on a talent show and I wanted to view the wreckage for myself. I am here to say she is a great judge for a talent show. Who knew?  Anyway, her makeup is just awful. She needs more, not less. Her eyes aren’t bad for a young woman in her role, but she needs foundation and lip liner. She looks unfinished. She also looks sad. When she smiles her eyes don’t smile too. I’ve also noticed that in some shots she has manicured nails and then a few minutes later half of them are gone. She appears to be very tightly wound. And the stalkers, OMG, it is alarming.

  • BrooklynBomber

I don’t hate the outfit w/ the pants, but it’s not quite what it should be. And li’l Brit is growing up, which is good, but she needs to stop stuffing herself into clothes that are a size too small.

  • suzq

She looks like Jessica Simpson in that last shot.

The dress is way better than the weird, Ode to Pakistan ensemble that Stella came up with.

  • lalagigi

She looks like she’s clenching her teeth in an attempt to keep from breathing. I hear seams popping.

  • alyce1213

This IS a bad dress.  Bad color combination, bad print, bad seams, bad fit.
Wearing a slightly longer dress is not enough — I know it’s a baby step, but at least wear a nice dress in a longer length, not this ugly POS.

  • joancarol

She should have played Marilyn. She has the same lost tragic look in her eyes.

    • formerlyAnon

But, no doubt, that is why nobody’d consider gambling all that money on her in the role.

  • I am so tired of her fake-ass smiles. Duchenne’s smile! Real eye creases! Makes you look 1000x times better! GAAAAAA.

Also, that blonde isn’t doing her any favors.

    •  Also, PhiPhi O’Hara called and she wants her eye makeup back.

  • Kate4queen

Actually I liked the kit she designed for Team GB at the Olympics, does that count?
Otherwise Brit should’ve gone up a size, as the Fug Girls always say, no one can see the label once the dress is on. 🙂

  • KathKo

The woman should really stay away from fashion.
    And I obviously don’t mean Britney…

  • MilaXX

She pretty much has been defaulting to this silhouette since being on X Factor. Didn’t someone wear this dress already?  Fergie maybe? Completely agree that the design is kinda of ruined because the dress is too tight.

    • teensmom99

Kerry Washington wore it in the right size (my comment hasn’t been posted for some reason) and I was surprised to see that it didn’t look great.  Not sure why I was surprised–you can count on Stella to almost make it and then miss.

      • MilaXX

Ah thanks, I remember almost liking this one on somebody. IIRC on Kerry the design kind of pointed to the vagina but otherwise looked okay

      • formerlyAnon

You probably already figured this out, but posts with links are reviewed by a live person (our ever hard working hosts, unless they’ve trained a kitty, I presume) before posting to prevent spamming.

Yet another reason why this blog is so pleasant.

  • teensmom99

Tried to post a version of this earlier but it seems not have posted–so apologizing in advance if this is a double.  I thought TLo got it 100% right and then I saw the perfect and chic Kerry Washington wearing this dress in the right size( and it didn’t look good.  So I’m thinking Stella strikes again.  It’s a dress that you would see on a hanger and think “maybe” and then you’d try it on and say nopepass).

  • AmeliaEve

I like it on Brit better than I do on the model. This dress looks better on a woman with a few curves. And yeah, it’s way too tight, which is a shame.

  • elirt

    She looks so uncomfortable. 🙁

  • PeggyOC

Agreed.  This could have been so chic if she’d gotten it to fit properly.

  • prettybigkitty

Too bad she can’t be photoshopped in public appearances.   I’m always amazed at how good she can clean up, like in the recent Elle spread.

  • gabbilevy

Hmm. Kerry Washington wore it better. It’s always weird when dresses put paisley or roses right on top of the lady bits, but other than the slightly unfortunate visual metaphor. I don’t hate this dress, and I rather like the colors.

  • kittenwithaquip

Brit-Brit is just tragic. Look at her face, and that forced smile. I almost feel bad for her. She’s a dead-eyed dancer working the pole years after she checked out mentally. The dress isn’t bad, but it’s so tight it’s like a glorified sausage casing.

  • i love brit forever, but is it just me or does she look perpetually confused lately? i watched a clip from x factor last night and she never really seemed to have a grasp on where she was/what she was doing there.

  • sorry, but there’s only one word for that heavy dark paisley thing at the bottom of the hem…

The tightness is totally not helping matters, neither is the raccoon eyes eyeliner.

  • Miss_Led

    So unfortunate.

  • TheOriginalLulu

Yeah, chic is definitely not in the proverbial wheelhouse for this one. Look at her face (and try not to let the hideous makeup scare you); she’s got an apologetic smile that says, sorry guys. No can do. Even if you hand me a perfectly lovely dress like this one, there’s just no way I’m going to wear it without tackifying the hell out of it. Otherwise I wouldn’t be Britney. Apologies.

  • Actually, I don’t hate this. She looks relatively put together.

  • tallgirl1204

I don’t get reverse darts either.  What part of dress-inside-out is classy?  (An aside:  a friend of mine recently arrived home and stumbled into her teenaged son and his girlfriend emerging hastily from his room.  The girlfriend chatted long enough for my friend to think that perhaps less had been going on than she initially suspected– and then as the girlfriend made her excuses and headed for her car, my friend saw that the girlfriend’s dress was on inside out.  Time for yet another talk with her son about responsible choices…  and yes, this is what inside-out darts call to mind for me.)

    • formerlyAnon

It makes me SO HAPPY that my kids are all away from home, in college.

      (Yup, that’s my takeaway.)

  • GorgeousThings

Looking at the dress, the word “Tortured” comes immediately to mind. But yes, for her it’s a big improvement.

  •  I like this a lot! She definitely needs to go up a side; the dress looks like the seams are actually about to split open. The hair is an improvement, so I can’t complain, though she does need some work with the makeup. But, it’s progress, so “Go Brit!”

  • I’m thinking she needs to go up 2 sizes! But I do like the dress, and love the color!

  • The best word to describe that dress is “gangrenous”.

  • 3boysful

Who started this stupid external darts movement?  It’s kind of like 1950’s car tail fins, but with no purpose and in a weird and unflattering place.

  • It’s not a bad dress?!?  You two obviously need to get more sleep.   It’s a terrible dress.  Made worse, because it fits Britney like a sausage casing.

  • VeryClaire

The dress is hideous, you forgot to mention that.

  • PastryGoddess

Hated those darts on the model and they are still hideous here.

Dear Brit Brit, it is not shameful to wear clothes that fit mkay.

  • How about a T.Lo feature entitled, “Girl, That’s Not Your Size”?

  • MissMariRose

     Good catch.

It’s obvious now that the fit isn’t the problem, it’s just a hideous dress.

  • Le_Sigh

I think her “Just one more picture and I can go home” anxious and rigid face/posture also make her eye makeup a bit scarier.  Its like she’s pleading for help from every photog that lets off a flashbulb.

    Good dress on her though.

  • her weave is a sad sad thing.

  • I’m not a fan of McCartney, but I actually like this, especially on the model with the pants. It would be even better without the reverse darts.

  • EEKstl

I’ve always liked this dress, and poor Brit was thisclose to actually scoring some grudging respect from me, but is just wrong how tight that dress is on her.   I will say that the shoe choice isn’t bad, tho…

  • another_laura

There’s a big difference between “this is not a bad dress” and “this is a good dress.”. I still say this is not a good dress: I dislike the blue color and that print on it, the inverted darts. And then yes, it’s a size too small on Ms Britney.

However, I’m happy she didn’t have it shortened and I like those shoes with it.

  • frannyprof

She will never not be tacky to me. That’s kind of what I love about her.

  • poggi

Yes, yes and yes.  But as you say it is a step forward, and she looks reasonably coherent and alert so for her, it’s a win.

  • Joyce VG

Blech – for the dress. Britney looks very nervous to me in all her X Factor pics. I’m worried for her.

  • marilyn

Is that a print, or did her tampon leak? Anpother Stella McCartney clunker. Moving on, the color is good for her. The overall shape is good too, just too tight.

  • Alisa Rivera

her eye makeup is eyes are a little LOT scary

    Fixed that for you.

  • snarkykitten

I heard an ad on the radio for the X Factor, and I swear, this is how it went. “the desperation… and…BRITNEY!”

  • A bit too tight, but it’s nice to see her looking this good. I don’t know why that girl went back to the celeb life after everything, but I hope it goes better this time around.

  • She looks terrified.

  • leftcoastpickle

Does she have no people to tell her that her dress is a size too small? And her eye makeup is too thick? And her hair is too fake and too yellow and too long? Because she needs those people.

  • Eve High

    Is she constipated?

  • leftcoastpickle

It looks tons better on Kerry than it does on Britney. I actually like this dress and think it would look good on Britney in the right size, and if she agreed to let Christina Hendriks new stylist work with her.

  • margaret meyers

I’m glad you guys found something positive to say because what I see is an uncomfortable woman in an unattractive, too-small dress with racoon makeup.  Nothing here is working for me.  Including that nasty wound on her left ankle.

  • I don’t know, I’d take “look at my boobs/legs” over “stare at my cooch”.

  • jmorino08

That poor girl. She always has such a tortured looking smile on her face. She looks super cute in that dress though!

  • formerlyAnon

This would have been an “in” for me, but for the fit.

And THANK GOODNESS we did In or Out on Kerry Washington in this dress several months ago. (I voted “in.”)

Because otherwise this would be the third or fourth look in your campaign of finding decent McCartneys with which to perplex we BKs – and it would have been the tipping point at which I would have to call Stella McCartney an uneven designer with a lot of “almosts” rather than an entirely inexplicable designer who makes awful clothing.

Thank god my prejudices can remain intact for a while longer.

And thanks for a nice clear photo in which I can conclude her foot is bruised, I saw her in another photo and spent an inordinate amount of time (a minute, even two!) debating whether it was a bruise or an indecipherable tattoo.

Man, those heels must hurt in new and different places with an injury like that.

  • PinkLemon

this is good stella. i don’t hate stella?! just….mostly dislike.

  • Candigirl1968

I don’t mind this dress.   It’s just too bad that it’s so tight.   ITA on hair and makeup.   Britney needs to embrace whatever size she really is and dress accordingly.  There is still a long way to go to take the tacky out of Britney.  Baby steps I guess.

  • Coralie Legister

    I like Stella. Just sayin’.

  • Now that I think about it, I realize that Britney Spears emergence into public consciousness was the first sign of the apocalypse.

  • Agreed. Not a bad dress at all, but too tight. It’s so weird that celebs do that; don’t they realize it actually makes them look heavier than they are?

  • turtleemily

I still don’t like how it looks like the wearer is birthing a garden.

But Kerry Washington wins in regard to fit, but I like Britney’s shoe more.

  • Beardslee

I continue to be baffled why designers – at least, I assume it is they – supply one one size or the wrong size clothing or shoes to the celebrities they want to shill for them.  Why why why??  Fit is all.  And if the vanity of the famous person gets in the way, where is the stylist saying, go up a size or let’s choose a different dress?? Where where where??

  • I actually really like the dress, and I kind of can’t help salute her for wearing it since it’s so outside of her wheelhouse, but since the fit is bad and so are her shoes, makeup and hair, I couldn’t have given it an IN anyway.

  • Crotch rose scarred me the first time I saw this dress and I don’t feel any nicer about it now, especially since as already mentioned, way too tight.

  • guest2visits

This was a surprisingly good choice for Brit; but it was indeed ruined being too tight.
She needed some tasteful black, strappy heels too.

    • Yes, I think black strappy heels would have been a big improvement.

  • Lisa Kramp

As far as SM dresses go, this one is lovely. But you’re right, way too tight. And her makeup and hair put 15 years on her. Sad.

  • mayavaly

I dunno, I’ve always really wanted to like Stella McCartney, but she never fails to disappoint. Even this number, with it’s vibrancy, looks like something I might find in the arse-end of Marshals. And poor, poor Brit Brit. I wish all the people who are trying to make still more money off of her would just let her be. I feel awkward just watching her and her mentors’ gross attempts to camouflage her mental illness with crappy extensions and excessive botox (see right eye for details).

  • ChristinaRi

I also have always wanted to like Stella McCartney, and I keep hoping there will be a design I like.   But there isn’t.   Not only do I not like her designs, I don’t like her color choices.   They are always just a little off for some reason.

  • CatherineRhodes

It only works the way the model is wearing it with those pants, or at least, those shoes. Brittney’s shoes ruin the look.

  • Truthfully, I don’t think she’ll ever pull off chic even if she wore the correct size. It’s just not in her wheelhouse.

Now what’s the deal with her left eye, nerve damage? or has it always been like that?

She and Simon both appear to have gotten some poorly placed Botox injections. It’s making the forehead collapse into the eyes.

      • mayavaly

         Yep. My thoughts exactly.

God, I never thought about this before, but … in a few decades, Brit-brit will probably have become Ginger Rogers.

  • Thank god she didn’t wear the pyjama pants with it.

    • Oh, that would NOT have been good!

The title of this post alone made me cringe.  As a graphic designer and illustrator I gotta say Stella – were she a student – I would think OMG HONEY Find another occupation. She does these COMPLETELY pedestrian things with her patterns. She is the amalgamation of mediocre design principles paired with  no sense of aesthetic. This is just hideous. “OH! Orange and blue are color compliments” Not all hues darling. Her sense of proportion on construction and “layout” for lack of a better term are dunce like. Its as if she sees something she likes elsewhere- knows she has to change it to own it and fucks it up. She is to fashion design what desktop publishing is to graphic design. Just because you have the best equipment money can buy – doesn’t mean you have talent.

poor britney, i don’t know how she managed to squeeze into this dress. the result is a little tragic. as is the scary look on her face. still, baby steps.

I’ve never been a fan of Britney, but my kids are requiring me to watch X Factor with them and I’m getting a little better understanding of her, which is to say rather than my usual disdain I’m starting to develop a bit of sympathy for the way in which we feed off of her trials and triumphs so relentlessly. She’s not terribly smart, which probably accounts for some of the bad decisions she’s made. (Simon is clearly protective of her.) Crazy people are obsessed with her, which must be awful and scary. And, of course, her fashion sense is not good. But I’m not going to kick the poor girl any more. Just, please, Britney, promise me you’ll never go braless again the way you did in that gold dress on XFactor this week. When your nipples are pointing at your feet–that’s bad, okay?

  • I do love the dress itself, but she should have gone up one size, and then had it tailored down, because this poor dress is just *screaming* for mercy.  The hair doesn’t look terrible, but the makeup is tortured.  She needs a pro doing her makeup, because it’s way too much black around the eyes.

  • It is awful, and so is her makeup…. She is such a beautiful woman, and the dress and makeup make her look so much older than she actually looks.

This take on the Shalwar Chemise thing isn’t that bad.  BUT the placement of the design, starting at Uterus Level, is just horrible.  And wtf is going on INSIDE the design?  Are you telling me that there are literal White Roses between her legs and at her crotch?  Hello!  Literal!  What if the design had been more elegant and non-representational?   And in a different color that shiny black/red and white?  (Silver, for example) and what if it had been rendered more elegantly and subtly, beginning nearer the top of the outfit?  Would that be better?   Hmm.  Probably not.  It’s still Stella McCartney and that means it’s still shit.  SHIT I say.

  • She needs less eye liner, and more eyebrow. Also, oi vey, that dress is too tight. Damn, Brit-brit, you have a slammin’ bod. Why can’t you find clothes that fit?!

  • I think I actually like it better on Britney. Crotchflowers seem to suit her better than Kerry.

  • DCSheehan

That’s the worst yeast infection I’ve ever seen.

  • bitterk

Dear Britney, eyebrows are not the enemy

  • Shawn EH

The blue is really great on her, and she was wise to ditch the pants. I like that she’s at least trying for a more mature look now that she’s a TV judge.

  • that dress is so tight it is pulling to the side, making the deign off center.  and what has happened to her hair?  is she wearing a wig, or just full extensions?  it seems like her hair never recovered from the head shaving incident.  also, she’s wearing so much eye makeup that she doesn’t even look like herself.

  • BritBrit looks very pretty (albeit a bit squooshed as you said), but man, Stella makes poor design choices.

  • God, she’s so dead in the eyes now. Poor thing.

  • Cathy S

It’s too tight, but I think she looks cute otherwise. Don’t be afraid to size up Brit!

  • that poor thing looks so nervous!

  • LinXGUA

    Ambassador Britney.
