Anna Kendrick in ASOS

Posted on September 19, 2012

It’s a tossup which internet-ism we hate the most: “totes,” or “adorbs.”

So you better recognize when we say …

Anna Kendrick making an appearance on ‘Extra’ at The Grove in Los Angeles in an ASOS dress.

ASOS Skater Dress In Daisy Print. $36.22

Anna Kendrick, your whole look here is totes adorbs.

That hurt.

We have an issue with the yoke portion, simply because it matches her skin tone too much and makes her look like her shoulders are peeling, but it really is a cute little day dress and those shoes pretty much tie the whole look together. It’s a pretty look without looking unattainable or like she’s trying too hard.

Totes adorbs…Love those shoes, agree about the yoke.

    • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Sweet as fresh creamery butter.  I even rather like the yoke.

      • alyce1213

        Perfect description.

    • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

I don’t know why, but I looked at this and thought of Sally, Charlie Brown’s sister.

    • http://heartprintandstyle.blogspot.com Vivi N

      She looks great!

Meanwhile, what’s with celebs and their fear of jewelry?

    • Carla_Charlton

This looks really, really good on her!  She looks comfortable, the dress is flattering and age-appropriate, and her hair and make-up are also appropriate for the dress and occasion.  I’m surprised because I think she usually looks awful, like she has no sense of style and has no one helping her.

    • shirab

That look actually *is* attainable! Less than $40! Assuming there are any left. Sadly, I have about the same skin tone as she does, so the peeling effect would be worse on me. I guess it’s just Not My Dress.

    • Cathy S

Their skater dresses are adorable. I love those shoes too.

    • Jill_3

I am buying this immediately. It needs to be on my body. NOW.

EDIT: NO! DAMN YOU ANNA KENDRICK! It’s sold out in everything but size 12 and 14. Much sadness.

    • http://twitter.com/delysia_lafosse Delysia LaFosse

Very cute. And may I just say how refreshing it is to see the naturally pale ladystars rocking their naturally pale skin these days?

    • Spicytomato1

Yes! I love this despite — or actually maybe because of — its twee provenance. She looks like the should be frolicking along a windswept coastline somewhere, perfectly captured in an Anthropologie catalog spread. And man do I wish I did, too!

FWIW, I think “totes” is worse.

    • http://twitter.com/ILikeShiny Cindi Williams

Add “vacay”, “pony”, and “maje” to that list. I know: I’m one fleecy shawl away from old lady crankiness.

      • Spicytomato1

I’m right with you, maybe worse actually because “pony” doesn’t ring a bell.

        • http://twitter.com/ILikeShiny Cindi Williams

“Pony” = ponytail. As in: “Jessica Biel’s hair looked totes adorbs rocking a pony on a maje vacay with Justin Timberlake.”

          • Spicytomato1

Ah, got, it, lol. Thanks for the morning laugh. (Says I while rocking my decidedly un-adorbs post-workout pony.)

          • charlotte

That sounds like a quote from “Girls”!

      • H3ff

And “amaze”, “gorge”, and “fab”. Ugh

    • Meg0GayGuys6

And it looks so much cuter knowing that it’s only 36 bucks!

    • Sobaika

I don’t love the dress on its own (if I saw it on a hanger I’d call it dowdy) but it’s working on her. Perfect match of style and starlet. It doesn’t look forced or try-hard because it looks like something she would wear on her own and its just right for the occasion.

      • MissAnnieRN

hey – Dowdy is the word I just used to describe it before I scrolled down.  I even referenced a hanger.  Sobaika, the psychic internet connection continues.  It must be a BK thang….

    • Judy_J

It’s a cute dress, and looks good on her.  I love her shoes more, though.

    • kathryn_dc

I thought I learned “adorbs” from you!! Well, maybe in the comments section. ;)

    • Mary_Shelley

      Really. everyone?  It’s pretty eh…

      • Rebecca J.

Worse then eh.  Ugly color, ugly print, looks home-ecy right down to the actual sewing and that wtf sheer chest thing.  The shoes look bargain-bin cheap and like they are actually falling apart.

This outfit is totes something, but adorbs ain’t it.  (not even going to bother with the crap-hair).

I do love pale skin, though.

        • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_BMEASIKJSVE6YP3DE2VLJA5CUU JulieJ

I am with you!  I saw the thumbnail and assumed the post would eviscerate the outfit.

      • you’renotmysupervisor!!

i think its a rule that every outfit she wears has to include a nude or beige.

Shoes are cute. the rest is Twee Twee Twee.

    • 3boysful

You can see how she played a high school-er in Twilight.  With little to no makeup, she really appears younger than she is.

    • holdmewhileimnaked

oh but the proportions are not working on this woman.

even still, it’s nice to see her wear something that, as they say on PR, real women can afford.

    • http://twitter.com/catherineeileen Catherine H.

College girl here. We’ve moved passed “totes” and “adorbs”. I introduce our newest phrase: PRESH.

      • http://profiles.google.com/ameliaheartsu Amelia Logan

        ughhhhhh

    • kschwarting

Ahh!!  (flapping hands uncontrollably)  I knew that I HATED the word totes, but didn’t know there was an equally annoying abbreviation of “adorable.”  With that said, Anna looks cute even though I’m not loving the dress.

    • Tatiana Luján

She looks so young here! And I’m not sure that’s a good thing. She looks more like a girl than like a woman.

    • http://twitter.com/MajorBedhead MajorBedhead

That dress costs $36?? Seriously? She’s making it look like it’s at least one decimal place more than that. Very, very cute.

    • Sarah Hansen

Love the look on her, but I can’t see ASOS without thinking A Storm of Swords and then wondering why on earth they would cast Anna Kendrick in that.

    • BrooklynBomber

Its better on her than on the model.

    • SorayaS

Oh no, completely disagree- I think the colours are dull (not bright, not pastel just blah), it definitely needs a belt, and the shoes are veering into orthopedic.

Her fresh hair and face are adorable I agree (cannot do “adorbs” arrgh) but everything from the neck down is yuck.

    • kimmeister

“Adorbs” is worse to me, although I rarely see/her “totes” without “adorbs” right after. I’m taking to you, Stacey London!

    • http://TheDoseofReality.com/ The Dose of Reality

Ew. I think the dress is drab and the bodice doesn’t fit her well. I can’t see the shoes very well but what I can see looks orthopedic. Anna deserves better.

    • MilaXX

      Agreed totes adorb

    • kolokOlchik

I don’t know.  I like it on the model, but I don’t like it on Anna at all.  Not her color, not her shape.  It looks drab.  Perhaps a belt could have helped, but still

    • MarissaLG

I LOVE Asos. I also love seeing celebrities in clothing that I could actually buy.

    • nannypoo

Seems like the bodice doesn’t fit. Stand up straight, Sweetie, you look really cute.

    • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

I have an irrational hatred of this dress. I don’t know why, but I really, really think it’s ugly and unflattering.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_2CNDPMVO4W23R5TVC2QMTJ5BZE Heather

I like that it cost $36.

    • Myra C

Wow. A dress I can actually afford. Cute. Me like

    • rawrgrowlrawr

I have this dress! I guess I am a celebrity now. Because that’s how logic works in my brain.

    • pookiesmom

I am not a fan. But I love that she’s wearing something that I could actually afford!

    • berkeleygirl

Especially considering that she’s a seriously tiny young woman, Ms. Kendrick knows how to dress for her proportions.  She always looks tasteful, if not edgy, and never, ever slutty, always approachable.  I get a sense that it’s more important to her to be comfortable than editorial.  Of course, when you have talent like hers, who cares?
      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W8y9pNqjtb0

    • Judih1

Looks too young for her – put it on the younger Fanning sister, or someone like that.

    • margaret meyers

If we could just get her to smile without doing that thing with her cheeks.

    • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

Well, I don’t love “totes” at all, but I confess – I do love “adorbs”.  But that’s my hang-up.

But I don’t think this outfit is either!  I agree with those who said it’s far too young for her.

    • MemHey

Anyone else get confused by the model’s likeness to Meg Ryan?

    • Zippypie

I don’t like this dress.  The top makes her look slouchy and frankly, she looks uncomfortable.  The cut of the bodice does not flatter her boobage.  This is, to quote my favorite hated Twitterism, a FAIL.

    • http://twitter.com/BrienneCalmer Brienne Calmer

It looks like she made it herself in home ec.

Also, *why* are her legs blue?

      • galcurly

My first thought — this doesn’t work because her legs look completely awful coming out of it.   It’s horrifying.  The shoes actually make that part worse.

    • RzYoung

      omg i totes agree ;)

    • MissAnnieRN

TLo, I don’t want it to affect our friendship, so please don’t take it personally, but I cannot co-sign.  This looks dowdy as hell.  The only good thing is the green-blue of the color in the fabric but otherwise I would never look twice at this dress – on the hanger or on the wearer.

    • imspinningaround

It’s darling, but it needs a belt.  A slim one in saddle tan, to pick up on the tan in the shoes.

    • ccm800

I think it looks CUTE (nothing more) on the model but I loathe this palette on her complexion – I think it makes her look terribly sallow
