Amy Adams in Roksanda Ilincic

Posted on September 21, 2012

Oh, Miss Amy! You’ve made Uncles T & Lo so happy!

Amy Adams attends the Los Angeles premiere of ‘Trouble With The Curve’ held at the Mann’s Village Theatre in a Roksanda Ilincic dress paired with Casadei pumps and Fred Leighton jewelry and bag.

We’ve been pretty hard on her lately for choosing pieces that looked dowdy or aging on her. And in the interests of full disclosure, we watched the Style Awards the other night and this dress looked much, much better on TV. Still, her other choices haven’t left us thrilled. But this? This is fabulous. We hate the shoes with the burning fire of the bottomless pits of hell (and thus, she gets no snaps from us today), but the rest of this is free and sexy, with a looseness and playfulness her looks have been sorely lacking lately. Plus the color looks great on her. The hair looks fab and the bag is cute (if a little pointless). Not quite a WERQ, but definitely a step in the right direction.

Love that dress! Extra points for no shudder-inducing side-boob.

    • MoHub

       Precisely my reaction!

    • AnneElliot

EXACTLY what I was going to say!! This is how it’s done.

And I agree about the shoes, but the dress is so pretty I’ll ignore them.

    • Ari_nz

I wouldn’t have complained about shudder-inducing side-boob along with thousands of others.

  • Kayceed

Holy smokes that’s a good-looking dress on her! I suppose the hooves were deployed because there is an aversion to hemming loaned designer gowns.

    • megohd

That’s actually a great explanation for the shoes. God they are hiddy, and weighing down such an otherwise amazing look.

      • http://kittysdrawings.com Esz

I think she should have gone with a more elegant pointed shoe with a super slender metallic spike heel.

  • A. W.

That dress makes her boobs look… weird? Not even sure what the right adjective is. But something’s off. I love her little smelling-salts pouch though! Delightfully useless.

  • BrooklynBomber

A good dress, good make up and hair — and not one hand-on-hip pose! Yay!

    • Winter_White

The hand-on-hip pose:  are those going to go away?  Oh, I hope so.  Only the slimmest, tallest professional models can pull that off.  Everyone else looks rather like your mom when she’s supremely annoyed that you’ve tracked mud into her house.

      • BrooklynBomber

I always feel like she looks like she just graduated from posing school. This is the first time I’ve seen her looking at all natural and comfortable. Progress!

        • Winter_White

BB, I actually meant that in more general terms…In the last few years I’ve seen so many images of women — on red-carpets, on TV, on Facebook, etc.;  mature women on down to wee grade-school girls — in that awkward h-o-h pose.  Just a little pet peeve.
But I agree with you about Amy:  she has a new presence here.  (I’d attributed it to the RED dress!)

        • kschwarting

I dunno, I feel like she either looks faintly pissed off (a la the first and third photos) or resorts to the cutesy smile (the fifth photo).  She’s lovely and talented, but I just don’t think she’s good on the red carpet.

          • Mary229

I sort of love that about her though. She isn’t some girl that grew up privileged with famous parents. She was an army brat who once worked at hooters and has had 3 Oscar nods in like 7 years.

I love that she’s not totally comfortable posing. It makes her real.

    • Ari_nz

Second pic is a hand on hip pose. Doesn’t look good on her but she has something wrong with the left inside forearm so perhaps its to hide that away from the cameras.

  • HomeOfficeGirl

Gotta be a personal best for her – love love love the dress and her hair and make up.

    • Ari_nz

Ha ha, you left out the shoes :-)

  • http://twitter.com/cornekopia Shawn EH

I think it’s a Phone-carrying bag, period. This is one of the jewel tones that works for her (the others being navy blue and forest green). The hair looks sassy!

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Lucía-Gavello/1253586868 Lucía Gavello

I think the only phone you could carry in that is currently owned by Derek Zoolander. A tampon carrying bag is what it is.

      • NC_Meg

I was thinking a Chiclet is about the only thing that’s gonna fit in there.

        • Little_Olive

Agree. Both the phone and the tampon would make the bag look wonky. Chiclets, lipstick and a $20 just in case.

      • RebeccaKW

I haven’t even made up my mind that it is a bag.  Sometimes it just looks like a piece of glittery something hanging on a chain.  Like a long dangly ring.

      • Ari_nz

        LMFAO

  • http://twitter.com/stellaphone Stella Zawistowski

The hooves have got to go. PLEASE MAKE THE HOOVES GO.

    Otherwise, nice work, Miss Amy!

    • Little_Olive

It’s not just that they don’t go and are awful on their own; it’s that they are so 3 years ago! Like, did she borrow them from Heidi Montag?

  • j_anson

    Wow, yeah. Go Amy Adams.

  • another_laura

LOVE this on her!  Great look all around until you get to the floor….

  • kimmeister

That’s a bag?  I thought it was a weird ring with a gigantic pointless tassel.  (Laughs at self.)

  • Winter_White

Redheads in red…So glad that old no-no rule has been proven wrong.

  • CQAussie

Dude.  That dress is one tiny strap away from being a Playboy spread plus it’s too long.  The poor strap is working HARD clinging on.  The bag is not just pointless but annoying.  The shoes are awful.  The only thing I like about this is the colour.

    • Ari_nz

I bet lots of fingers were crossed for the functional strap to become not functional. Poor girl I think she would have realised this as well it all hangs on one “fine” thread.

  • http://twitter.com/MandySCG MandyJane

She gets a werq from the ankles up!

  • Zippypie

Hate this dress with a passion.  I hate watching something where I’m in fear of side boob or full boob or nip slip.  If I’m that uncomfortable, I can’t imagine how the woman wearing it feels.  And the Satan hooves need to be banished forever!!

  • msdamselfly

    Lovely

  • filmcricket

The colour is great on her and she’s pulling off the Halston disco-ness of it better than I’d have thought she could, but I really dislike dresses that are *that* unstructured – usually only real models can make them look fab.

She is apparently an enormous bitch in real life, so maybe her recent spate of severe looks have been to counter her sweet & cute image. Perhaps she’s suffering from Hugh Grant syndrome: tired of being mistaken for the nice people she always plays?

    • mayavaly

Oh no, really? Now that’s all I can see — smouldering bitch just under the surface. Well, at least I don’t feel so bad about slagging off her usually awful dress sense. Agree with your point about the unstructured dress issue. They give me this uneasy sense that something could go dreadfully wrong at any point, and the silk is only adding to that precariousness.

    • Mary229

I have never heard anything but lovely things about her.

I also met her this summer after a performance of Into the Woods and she couldn’t have been more gracious to the fans that were crowding her at the stage door.

Why spread rumors about an actress like that? She is known for being a lovely person.

      • filmcricket

I’m not spreading rumours, I’m just reporting what I’ve been told from people who’ve had to deal with her on a professional level. I’m glad she’s nice to fans.

        • Mary229

You are repeating hearsay which is rarely fair or true.

I imagine there are nasty stories out there about every working actor or actress.

But unless you know someone personally it just always feel weird and un-necessary to repeat things that you don’t experience hand.

I’m a professional performer myself. That kind of hearsay gets old for everyone.

          Just my opinion. ::shrugs::

          • filmcricket

You must find the internet a very disturbing place.

        • Ari_nz

She can be a bitch, this is not secondhand. She can also be graciously accommodating, like with all of us, it really depends on the day. For example if you bang into her on set, and don’t have the manners to apologise, she will let you know about it as one poor guy found out. No excuse for rudeness so he deserved it. She is far from a demanding Diva that throws her weight around, even though shes only 115 pounds, and thats even on a bad day. So I’d rather work alongside Miss Adams than………no I won’t start naming them.

  • Lilithcat

    Bedsheet.  Red satin bedsheet.  Nooooooo.

    • Mary229

I love the dress. But I did say that I thought it looked like she was wearing the Superman cape ala Teri Hatcher naked in the cape.

  • MilaXX

The dress is fab, but that shoe ruins the look.

  • jw_ny

good color on her and she looks pretty.  :)

  • http://www.facebook.com/renate.yerkes Renate Yerkes

t lo, you CRAZY! She looks drop dead gorgeous!

  • jmorino08

Take note starlets: no visible side boob can be done!!!

  • janierainie

seriously? She couldn’t find shoes better than those? Maybe those are emergency shoes she keeps in her purse when her real shoes get hopelessly ruined on the way to the event…

  • Sara__B

Free and sexy? Loose and playful? Beautiful? You bet! But my only hints that she’s not at a resort — covering up her sexy bikini and heading for a casual dinner — are the bag and the shoes. Hair, makeup, and unstructured gown all read “expensive exotic beach vacation” to me.

  • ojosazules

Beautiful color, beautiful dress. She looks fabulous.
I have come to accept that there is something wonderful about beige platform pumps that I do not understand but famous women really do.

  • http://TheDoseofReality.com/ The Dose of Reality

The moment I saw the photo before I even scrolled down, I thought, “Oooof. I’d bet she was on the cusp of a WERQ but for those shoes!” That color is fantastic for her!

  • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

I’m not really in love. I think the color is great, but the dress itself is kind of baggy and shapeless. Hair and makeup are pretty, if a bit casual. And at risk of sounding like a broken record, those shoes need to be burned.

  • BigWhiteGrannyPanties

I just keep worrying that some enterprising paparazzo is going to snip that wee little string that holds her dignity together…

  • siriuslover

The the dress. But is it me, or does something look wrong with her nose here?

  • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

Gaaah, still hate her.  But she *does* look a lot better (*kicks the ground begrudgingly*).

  • Mary229

This totally works for me. Yes, it’s unstructured but I like it. Hair is beautiful and sexy. Skin looks beautiful.

I sort of think she should have saved this for the Man of Steel premiere though since it literally looks like she’s naked in the Superman cape. And that’s a Lois Lane tradition that I love.

  • RebeccaKW

She looks good.  I wonder-is that just some sort of annoying danly ring and not a bag?

  • http://twitter.com/#!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

    That dress is KILLA.

  • kikisayshi

    Work that sexy shit, gurl!

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_F73LIJ3SJGI5AJQMXMWXCKILHI Pamela

Yeah, the hair looks thick & lovely but I don’t think it approaches “fab”.  Too casual-I think it would’ve lifted the look if she’d done something more interesting with it.

  • nannypoo

Beautiful dress and it’s a great color for her. I like the little bag. All she needs for an event like this are lipstick and maybe a few other touch-up items, so it’s got plenty of room. And it’s adorable.

  • zbkat

Of all the shoes in the universe, why, oh why, would she settle for these? Seriously. Was some shoe cartel holding her family hostage unless she wore these? Or did she look in the mirror and think, “Perfect dress. Perfect hair. Now I better not piss off the vain and jealous gods and throw something ugly into the mix.”

  • holdmewhileimnaked

i usually dont get why people ever find this woman to be attractive. but she looks pretty here. me, who doesnt ordinarily appreciate whatever it is people find so admirable, i think it’s the best i’ve ever seen her look. otoh, flash as it is, i just dont get the mini chatelaine pocket. i mean, it’s not even a chatelaine, it’s more like a little baggie that fell off of one.

  • LambeeBaby

Beautiful dress. Spectacular color. Shoes awful. Hair bad, bad, bad. She needs something shoulder length or shorter. The bag(?) is non functionally cute.

  • http://vhanna26.typepad.com Vera

    Great color on the dress!

  • SewingSiren

Beautiful head to toe. I especially enjoy the finger ring bag. I think they are called reticules.

    • Ari_nz

or testicles, theyre about the same size lol

  • jahphotogal

Gone are the days that redheads were told they couldn’t wear red – nobody would ever say that after seeing htis.

  • quiltrx

She looks great!  I’ve always thought she had a “comfortable beauty”–not the kind that you expect to be formal and bound-up (like so many of her RC choices in the past).  I think this look really brings out what makes her so appealing (to men and women alike) in her films.  Kudos, Amy!

  • guest2visits

A really great look for her; the hair and make-up are so flattering, the dress works beautifully.

  • aristida_girl

she looks great! i want her hair…

  • Call me Bee

She looks really good and this dress is pretty cool.  But how disappointing are those shoes?  Ugh.  Some cute sandals, even in the silly-putty color, would have been so much better.  Love the cute teeny bag.

  • fringebenefit

Has any human being on planet Earth ever looked better in red? And this is a particularly stunning red.

  • MaryAtRealityTea

Dress is beautiful, but the sucking in my stomach, pursed-lips pose she defaults too EVERY TIME is eternally distracting. For a split-second I thought she had Lohan’d her face and was pumping it full of unneeded fillers.

  • ccm800

Her best showing maybe ever. I am not a fan of her red carpet style at all – she so often wears things she JUST cannot pull off – simple and deconstructed things that open her face are definitely her best bet IMO

  • truthoid

I wonder what she can have room enough to carry in that little bag. A tiny, tiny phone and a single Polo mint.

  • Larkin21

Great dress but the cute purse is so beyond pointless that it’s annoying. Still, an overall very good look.
