2012 Emmy Awards Red Carpet – Part 1

Posted on September 24, 2012

Let’s crack our knuckles and DO THIS.

Amy Poehler in Stella McCartney

Very much a personal best for her. We think that bustline is both too wide and too low for her, but otherwise, this is a fantastic post-breakup look.

Betsy Brandt in David Meister Signature

A little basic, but pretty. We’d like it more if it wasn’t so shiny.

Christine Baranski in Rubin Singer

What an odd choice. Generally speaking, it’s all gowns, all the time at the Emmys. We don’t want to be dogmatic about it, but she really sticks out like a sore thumb.

Connie Britton in Andrew Gn

The dress is pretty and the color looks great on her, but her hair was really weird.

Elisabeth Moss in Dolce&Gabbana

Y’know, on anyone else we might have hated this, but Lizzie’s been in a style rut for so long, foisting an endless string of colorless bandage dresses on us, that we can’t help but applaud the boldness and sassy-ness of this look. You go, Peggy.

Hayden Panettiere in Marchesa Spring 2013

To paraphrase one of our patron saints, the great Ur-Bitch Addison DeWitt, “You’re too short for that dress.” It’s a stunning dress, but it belongs to Stacy Keibler.

Heather Hemmens in Terani Couture

Basic. Great color, though.

Jane Krakowski in Kaufmanfranco

Also basic, but no complaints.

January Jones in Zac Posen Resort 2013

That’s a pretty amazing dress, but why is she sporting Halloween makeup?

Joanne Froggatt in Vivienne Westwood

Colorless, but very pretty. Her hairstyle looks great and really suits her, but the extremely obvious, bright yellow extensions are killing us.

Julianna Margulies in Giambattista Valli Fall 2012

A lot of people said this looked like a bedspread or shower curtains, and we suppose they’re right, but we still think it’s a gorgeous dress.

Julianne Hough in Georges Hobeika Fall 2012 Couture

A beautiful dress, but her hair is awful. Her totally heterosexual boyfriend Ryan Seacrest actually bitched her out on the red carpet for not choosing the hairstyle he preferred, which was a gloriously off-script moment that left everyone involved a little uncomfortable.

Kate Mara in Badgley Mischka Spring 2013

Very pretty. Not loving the hair and the bangles are just a little heavy for the look.

Kiernan Shipka in custom Zac Posen

But honey, don’t do the “gotta pee” pose.

Lena Headey in Armani Privé

That is a stunning, Bride of Dracula kind of dress. Our only issue is that she really needed to go all the way on the makeup with a goth look like this.

Leslie Mann in Naeem Khan Spring 2013

This looked prettier on camera. We still like it, but the jewelry is terribly distracting.

Lindsay Pulsipher in Bibhu Mohapatra

Mare Winningham

It’s an interesting dress, we’ll give her that. We think her hair should’ve been worn up, though.

Michelle Fairley

Wow. She looks so formidable as Catelyn Stark. We had no idea she was so tiny. Love the dress, but that tit-banner would drive us nuts (if we wore tit-banners).

Morena Baccarin in Basil Soda

Too complicated, the bustline is not flattering, and the color does nothing for her.

Sarah Paulson in Reem Acra Resort 2013

Beautiful color, but we’re not sure we agree with the black accents. Pewter accents would have lifted this up a little.

  • Does Christine Baranski have new boobs? Is that what this dress is designed to show off? Elisabeth Moss needs to look into coloured lippy.

    • Can’t quite pin down why Baranski’s dress doesn’t work. Heaven knows she’s got great gams, but – and I hesitate to say this – I wonder if she’s too old for that dress.

    • YoungSally

I was thinking at least new lingerie.  Her boobs have that teardrop shape that is considered “best” in custom brassieres.  Alas, with the sequins it’s as if she has special nipple bling.

    • They are pointing… upward. How odd.

    • Christine’s dress would have really been amazing as a floor length gown. I’m not so sure what she’s doing in that short dress.

    • TheDivineMissAnn

Not sure about the boobs, but if I had gams like that I would show them off too.

    • eandh99

At a certain point, one’s arms often give away the effects of aging more than one’s legs – Christine wisely chose to cover up the arms, show off the great legs, and not turn up in a big poufy prom dress, I congratulate her.  You’re sitting down for the evening, who needs a lot of skirt to wrangle.

  • I keep wondering what it is that stops Morena Baccarin from stopping traffic every time she steps on the RC.  She is so stunning.  This was another nearly tragic fail, on a woman who should be leading the pack.

    •  “Taste issues”?

      •  Okay, fine, then  she needs to hire someone.

        •  Agreed. Or at least get some honest girlfriends around when she is getting ready for these things.

          • Or a gay godfather who will take her aside and talk some sense into her, because apparently she can’t hear the message Tlo is sending. Because that illusion insert doesn’t look sexy – it makes her look like her dress doesn’t fit.

          • I think it’s hard for very pretty gals to find good friends.

    • Pants_are_a_must

I always thought she suffered from the Shannyn Sossamon syndroom: a brunette so stunning no one can think around her and she has no idea about fashion either.

      •  I would more than happy to offer my services,….She needs a loving, but stern gay uncle.

    • ert4osu

Agreed! She is gorgeous and really hasnt been doing herself justice very often lately

    • gabbilevy

The hair is a definite improvement though, so we can give her that.

    • librarygrrl64

Agreed. This hetero gal drooled over her every appearance in Firefly/Serenity, but she needs a stylist. I actually don’t mind the color (dark brunettes can look stunning in gray/pewter/silver), but she always seems to get the silhouettes and styling wrong.

  • teensmom99

All the strapless dresses are way too low (worst offender Juliane Hough–couldn’t even look at the hair).  As to Hayden Pannetiere–I figured out last night that Marchesa works best on teens or teen types.  Last but not least, re Kiernan Shipka–no actual teen has worn a dress like that since Hayley Mills’s heyday in the Parent Trap.  Too costumey.

  • VicksieDo

There were a LOT of unfortunate hair-dos at the event!  Julianne Hough’s dress was TO DIE on camera.  Also Leslie Mann and Julianna Margulies stood out for me.

  • Jeremiah Capacillo

Elisabeth Moss looks really really good! I’m impressed!

    •  I agree! I actually don’t think the picture does her justice, when I saw her on camera she looked STUNNING.

  • Pants_are_a_must

Lena Headey is always one for the gothic red carpet looks. Remember last big award show when she dressed like Jane freaking Eyre? Love that crazy bitch.

    The rest is just okay.

(Ryan Seacrest is the most heterosexual Hollywood mogul since Simon Cowell)

  • This was the night of terrible hair, for sure.  Jan Jones, Julianne Hough, Ashley Judd, and Tami Taylor (among others too numerous to name), I’m looking at YOU.  I loved Lesley Mann’s dress, as well as Julianna Margulies (shower curtains or not, I love it).  Am I alone in thinking that Julianna Hough’s dress was incredibly unflattering, especially around the hip area? The whole look was a major miss for me.

    • Sobaika

      Re: Hair

I think that’s January Jones’ biggest issue. The makeup is awful, but such flat hair makes it stand out and look all the more garish.

      • Catiline

The flat hair also really emphasizes Ms. Jones’ ears in a way that I’m not loving.

        • I really hate the hair and makeup equally on Jan Jones.  It’s just…awful.  Do you think her team hates her?  That’s the only excuse I can muster for this.

      • MK03

Honest to god, my first thought on seeing January Jones was “Why is Kimmy Gibbler at the Emmys?”

      • AutumnInNY

Love the dress and she pulls it off, but yes the make-up and hair ruined. She is such a beautiful girl. I wish
she’d stop insisting on the edgy thing and just go with softer hair/make-up.

      • She looked like she was balding….

  • TheDivineMissAnn

Quoting Addison DeWitt!!!  THIS is why I love you guys!

    • lovelyivy

That is possibly my favorite movie of all time. Quotes like that (in addition to the love for the nerd set) are why I love T and Lo.

    • rh33

Agreed!! The best movie ever. (Especially Bette Davis’s dress in The Party scene.)

  • Okay guys….enough with the “sweet pills” ….”nice” and “pretty”‘ is not what the EMMYS red carpet should be about! MEOW!

    • boomchicabowwow

Hmmmm……unless your image is either “nice” or “pretty”, and you’d like to keep your fan base?

  • Spicytomato1

    Kiernan Shipka FTW.

I had no idea Mare Winningham was still around. She looks great.

    • 3boysful

Re Mare:  Except that she needs to purchase a hairbrush.

    • boomchicabowwow

That seeems….kind of an insult?  But that dress does need a steamer, badly.

  • Sarah Paulson looks gorgeous! I love the hair color. And the makeup is perfect.

Leslie Mann looks like a kook, but that’s her thing, right? I would love to have her over for margaritas or something.

  • Jecca2244

I saw Julianna’s dress in a different way. It reminded me of a Monet, which I found both calming and beautiful. But I’m weird like that : )

    • boomchicabowwow

LMFAO!  Coffee out the nose!  “She’s a total Monet…from far away it looks nice, but close in?  It’s ALL messed up!”

  • Betsey’s dress is straight out of the freaking 80’s.  January could have worked that dress, but that hair and make up is Gwenyth Paltrow at the 2002 Oscars.

    •  Less titscrepancy, fortunately, but that was my immediate thought too.

  • Catiline

I kinda love Leslie Mann’s look, jewelry and all.  It’s happy colors without being garish.

    • megohd

I liked the earrings, not the bracelet. Otherwise I loved her look!

  • Stephanie Ryan

i LOVE LOVE LOVE the bedspread dress

    • call_me_schmeg

me too! do you think it’s because of my fondness for napping? or just because that dress is FANTASTIC. i love it when ladystars take a risk.

    •  Me too! Like, a lot!

  • Monica Baccarin apparently altered an old lizard costume form V.

  • sanja_ramic

The shape of Joanne Froggat’s Vivienne Westwood is so perfect but I was so distracted by trying to imagine it in another colour that I couldn’t pay attention to the rest of the gowns, until I got to Sarah Paulson, who looks absolutely lovely, that is such a wonderful colour on her.

  • amandafg

I feel like Morena Baccarin always chooses ugly or at least not very pretty dresses just so we can concentrate on how flawless her face is and how it really doesn’t matter what’s she’s wearing. Bitch.*

*well, except when she’s all sweet and polite on interviews. damn her.

    • sanja_ramic

It all makes sense now, I’m constantly perplexed by how underwhelming or outright bad her red carpet choices have been, so I’m going to go with this explanation.

    • sweetestsith

I saw her in person once (at a sci-fi convention) and she’s traffic stopping/ship launching stunning & crazy sexy. I sympathize with anyone trying to dress her – I wouldn’t be able to focus enough to criticize her apparent bad taste either.

She was super sweet to all her crazy firefly fans too. Nobody should be that attractive and good with people. It isn’t fair to the rest of the world.

  • Judy_J

I thought Kiernan Shipka looked adorable!  I loved her little bag!  I also loved Julianna Margulies dress.  That floral gown was a stand out.  Christine Baranski must have really wanted to show off her gorgeous gams….that’s the only reason I can think of for wearing a short dress like that to the Emmys.

    • kimmeister

That little bag was adorable.  I half wish it contained a tiny hat!

  • pattyw

Julianna was one of my favorites, as was Hayden–I don’t get the “she’s too short for that dress” thing. Joanne Froggat looks tragic. Kiernan Shipka nails it again and I have to say, I’ve come to expect the unexpected from January Jones and she didn’t disappoint. Fantastic dress.

    • sweetestsith

I don’t either – I think Hayden looks awesome! She is short, but I don’t think the dress is overwhelming, just pretty and different. And nicely fitted imho.

  • Jennifer Coleman

January Jones’ dress is the best thing I’ve seen her in, but the makeup and shoes  are doing her no favors.
Julianna Margulies always stays true to her severe style, which suits her. Very few can carry that dress like she does.
Kiernan Shipka is cuter that cute. Zac Posen rose a few points in my book.
Lena Headley is rocking the Mortica-chic. I’m hoping the black hair is for a role.
Michelle Fairley is tiny – that dress is screaming for a bigger rack to display.
Yeah, that low cut bodice is just too much and the dress color gives her jaundice, but I kind of dig Morena Baccarin’s frock.

  • call_me_schmeg

how proud would you be if kiernan shipka was your daughter!?

  • janetjb

Julianna Margulies looked beautiful last night. Her dress was gorgeous on TV.

  • Sharon Jessup Joyce

Agree with all your comments except the one about Morena Baccarin’s dress – the neckline isn’t great, but the style and colour are great on her.

  • Re January Jones: admittedly I don’t ‘get’ Zac Posen, but if that is resort wear, at what resort is one meant to wear that thing?

  • Kittens, it’s been 30 comments and no one has said anything particularly rude about Stella McCartney’s design yet. Have we matured as a community or has she improved as a designer?

    • No, the other dresses are just that bad.

    • TAGinMO

Perhaps we all just love Amy Poehler and are still devastated by the breakup, so we’re grading on a bit of a curve. (Or maybe that’s just me.)

But irrespective of who’s wearing it, that’s one of the more tasteful, flattering, normal-looking Stella McCartney gowns I’ve seen.

      • twocee

When did they break up???   That depresses me (and yes, that’s ridiculous as I don’t know either of them).

        • TAGinMO

Couple weeks ago, maybe a month? But it sounds like there’s been trouble for a while. The rumor is that he had an affair with his costar, Christina Applegate, and there were blind items about Amy crying on the SNL set, which is just one of the saddest things I can imagine.

  • Also, I know Joanne Froggert is tiny, but was she always that scary-skinny?

  • I always thought Ryan Seacrest was gay.

    • MilaXX

      So does everyone except Ryan

  • TomBord

Clearly Stellaaaaaaaah was channeling Bobby Mackie!

  • siriuslover

I cannot even tell that is January Jones.

  • Elaine Lang

Kiernan Shipka needs to play Emma Watson’s little sister in something soon.   The resemblance is so uncanny!

    • megohd

Connie Britton’s hair is so odd, which is puzzling to me because I’ve been DYING for her to take several inches off her mane. I appreciate that she went for something a little more refined, but this doesn’t work at all.

      • schadenfreudelicious

her previous hairstyle was far too long, but this is not the look for her either, she appears to have a bit of a widow’s peak going on, and that high half up do only makes her hairline look really odd, i was also so distracted by how shiny (even greasy), her chest and cleavage looked on camera last night, a lighter hand with the body oil was needed…

  • afabulous50

There is actually a designer named Basil Soda???  Seriously?

    • kimmeister

Now I am imagining such a beverage.  Yuck!

  • filmcricket

Christine Baranski, congratulations on your everything. I want to be you when I grow up.

I don’t know who Betsy Brandt is, but she’s wearing Dynasty pajamas. Amy Poehler’s dress looked better on TV and yeah, that’s a totally “I’m back on the market, bitches!” outfit. January Jones really needs to stop with the overly-complicated gowns. Kiernan Shipka looks adorable, poised, cool. I’d also like to be her when I grow up.

I didn’t notice the middle seam on Julianna’s dress last night and I like it less because of that; I also think her head is a little “undone” for such a voluminous gown, but it’s still a stunning dress. Love her.

  • nannypoo

Something needs to be done about Elizabeth Moss’ horrible fried blonde hair. It has nothing to do with her coloring. There seems to be an alarming trend toward that scary acid yellow which flatters exactly no one. Leslie Mann is the only one who wore it well, and that’s because it’s nowhere near her face. Christine Baranski’s dress would be beautiful for some other event. If it were long it would be fabulous.

  • I wish Morena Baccarin would cut her hair super short again. Such a fierce look. And then maybe we wouldn’t notice the terrible fashion choices…nah, we would still notice them.

If Lena Headey had turned around and shown the incredible amount of ink she sports IRL, that would’ve been way goth. She is so bad ass. Loved the dress on her.

  • twocee

Juliana M.’s dress looked much better on TV last night than in the still photo.
Gray does not look good on most people (even those as gorgeous as Morena Baccarin).
I thought Connie Britton just looked tragic last night, and the combination of her and Hayden P as presenters was horrible.
Did all of the hairstylists in Hollywood go on strike 3 hours before the show?  Because there was a serious bad hair going on.

  • Judy_S

During the show, I was impressed by Juliana Margulies’ dress. It seemed perfect–grand, sophisticated, perfectly fitted and fitting. I saw Elizabeth Moss being interviewed and the camera raked her dress… it really has too many ruffles, here, there, everywhere; I suppose the cleverness of the design is that you can still actually see her figure in amongst the frills.  I thought Hayden Panettiere looked pretty good, too. Most of the rest of these I missed.
I can’t tell whether or not I like Joanna Frogget’s dress–her hair is in the way. What’s the point of wearing a dress with a heavily designed bustline if you obscure it with your tresses, real or added?

  • crash1212

I thought Christine Baranski looked fab. All gowns all the time = boring. Plus, if I had her legs, I’d never wear long dresses or pants.

  • Aaron Blair

I really love how pretty Michelle Fairley looks here.  She was looking very (understandably) haggard on the last season of Game of Thrones, and so this is a nice contrast.

Morena Baccarin, I think, does what Tyra Banks refers to on America’s Next Top Model as “resting on pretty.”  She’s a gorgeous woman with a great body, she probably thinks that anything will look good on her.  Unfortunately, this is not true.  She probably would have looked great in one of those Bollywood-inspired Marchesa dresses, because a lot of the courtesan clothing she sported as Inara on Firefly was clearly supposed to remind you of a sari, and Morena Baccarin as Inara always looked beautiful, since it was part of her job.

    • twocee

Ooo…agree.  She would kill in a Bollywood inspired dress.  Maybe she doesn’t want to make people think about Inara too much now?

      • Aaron Blair

I think it’s safe to say at this point that aside from to sci-fi nerds and Whedonites, she’s probably not associated with that character in people’s minds enough to where it would be much of a sticking point.  Homeland and V have been more widely successful and they’re not as far in the past.  I could be wrong, though.  A lot of actors live in fear of typecasting and go out of their way to avoid it.

  • fwooper

I love January’s eye makeup, I think it suits her dress perfectly. I adore
Julianna’s dress. and I thought Morena looked great.

  • fwooper

And Elisabeth looks like she’s wearing grandma’s bed spread.

  • schadenfreudelicious

what is with the star ladies and the soot eye?..(it’s too far gone to call it smokey eye )., step away from the kohl pencil….i am looking at you January Jones..

  • Billie_Dawn

Kate Mara is a very pretty woman, but there’s something about the way she looks when she’s being photographed that really freaks me out. Like she’s looking into the camera and trying to kill me with her mind.

  • Anathema_Device

First of all thank you, Emmys and T Lo, for giving me a reason to delay starting my week.

Brandt’s dress is way to bridesmaid-y. Moss’s hair is an awful shade of blonde, but yay for wearing a pretty floral dress (even though I think it is a wee bit too much dress for her).

I love all the color and floral on the red carpet. Not all the floral and color worked in every instance, but I like the variety of looks.

  • Guys, are you planning on covering Kenley’s dress from the Emmy’s at all?  I know normally you don’t go for PR comments on other subjects, but since it was the subject of a challenge…

  • MilaXX

    Amy Poehler – personal best
    Betsy Brandt – pretty
Christine Baranski – Too short & a bit too young
Connie Britton – bad hair and makeup
Elizabeth Moss – okay, but I really just like the sassy attitude that seems to come with the new hair.
Hayden Panetierre – I liked this. She appears to be dressing better since she got the new show.
    Heather Hemmens – generic
Jane Krakowski – Looks okay, but the hair is a little fried
January Jones – Dress is okay but been there, done that. The smokey eye veered into drag queen terratory.
Joanne Fogget – All I see is those awful, yellow extensions
Julianna Margolis – I loved it, my sister thought it looked like a couch
Julianne Hough – pretty dress, wrong hair. Every time I see her and Ryan interact. I am amazed that people still beard in this day and age.
Kate Mara – hate the hair, hate the makeup, and hate the stupid pose
    Kiernan Sherpka – adorable!
Lena Hedley – Very kiss of the spider woman
Leslie Mann – love the color. I think the jewelry would have looked better with the earrings
    Lindsay Pulsipher – pretty
Mare Willingham – okay dress, needs better hair
Michelle Fairley – weird top, but it works on her
Morena Baccarin – the illusion netting is distracting
Sarah Paulson – the black accessories are all wrong for this

    • Call me Bee

“Every time I see her and Ryan interact. I am amazed that people still beard in this day and age.”

I’m sorry–I don’t know what that means.  Typo?  Or cool hip lingo that I don’t get?

(BTW–I agree with your post totally…well, except for that sentance that I don’t know what it means…)

      • When a gay man dates a woman in order to pretend he is straight to the public eye, she is referred to as a “beard.”

      • MilaXX

Beard as in when a gal pretends to date a gay guy so that he can pretend to be straight.

  • snarkykitten

holy shit, January Jones’ face!! I think she & Lena Headey need to swap heads

  • SneakyKitty

I don’t know if it’s bad camera angles or the way they’re posing, but Hayden Panatierre, Jane Krakowski, and Kate Mara all look way too short, like they have no feet.

  • Neverbuynewclothes

I watch so little TV that many of these women are only familiar from TLo’s postings, but, that said, they look mostly wonderful.  Pretty dresses.  The move to ladylike looks from hooker looks in fashion is kind to most women, and this proves it.

  • SneakyKitty

I don’t know if it’s a bad camera angle, the way they’re posing, or what, but Hayden Panatierre, Jane Krakowsky, and Kate Mara all look way too short.  Like their feet got cut off.

  • ChaquitaPhilly

Christine Baranski looks Fabulous, even in the short skirt!

  • 1. Who is Joanne Frogatt, and,
    2. What is going on with her bustline?

    • Lisa_Cop

Joanne Frogatt is an actress on Downton Abbey.

  • It must KILL January Jones that Kiernan Shipka is *always* much better dressed than she.

Maybe Christine Baranski went short in solidarity with Kenley… wasn’t this the event that Ven won on PR and everyone said tea length was too short for an awards show?

  • Was everyone told to go semi-topless?  It was crazy how much boob was trotted out early in the show.

    • unbornfawn

That always drives me semi-crazy. They have these huge gorgeous dresses and in close up they look naked.

  • Stubenville

Is my monitor going wonky, or does the red carpet look really orange-y?

  • Julianas ‘shower curtains’ look wasn’t helped by her scraped back hair, shiny face and obvious bikini lines (more visible on other photos) and the fact that the dress is much too long. It DOES look like she’s just stepped out of the shower and got into a bit of a pickle on the way…

  • The first thing that I thought when I saw Julianna Margulies was “it looks like a Monet painting.” And Monet is my favorite, so that’s a very, very good thing. I love everything about her look!(Total non sequitur… my bf is a saint b/c he skipped his favorite shows in lieu of watching the Emmys with me b/c he knew I wanted to see the gowns. <3 )

  • Stubenville

Out of all of them, Kiernan Shipka is the most put together with
Betsy Brandt  as runner up.  Pretty much everyone else failed to some extent.

And dear God, that Zac Posen gown is giving me motion sickness!

  • Kiernan looks PERFECT! So pretty.

  • Tatiana Luján

first thing I thought when I saw Julianne Hough was “little mermaid”. Even her hair resembles waves.

  • gabbilevy

No clear winner for me in this bunch. Lots of pretty, but nothing that we’re going to remember in ten years.

  • Dot

Oh January. You are so beautiful — why would you do that to your hair and face?

  • Eva_baby

Janaury Jones’ dress is stunning.  Too bad everything from the neck up is just tragic.

I gasped when i saw Kiernan Shipka.  So pretty, everything about this dress is spot on perfect.

Man, I hope this means Heather Hemmens is actually getting work.  She was hands down the best thing about the surprisingly not awful tv show Hellcats.

  • BrooklynBomber

    Best comment evah!

  • BrooklynBomber

Christine Baransky looks like she should be wearing sneakers with that dress.

  • MissMariRose

” Her totally heterosexual boyfriend Ryan Seacrest actually bitched her out on the red carpet….”

Is there video of this? Where can I see it?

  • nannypoo

Kiernan Shipka is the only child celebrity who I think has been dressing too young for her age, but here she has chosen the perfect dress. Everything about it is just right.

  • kschwarting

Amy looks great from the neck up, but that dress does nothing for her figure…she looks lumpy when I’m pretty sure she isn’t.
Loving the oranges and yellows on the red carpet!  And while Julianna’s dress does look a little like a shower curtain, she looks confident and happy in it.

  • nancylee61

Was Heather Hemmens gown by Rami?? It is gorgeous on her, I think she is a WERQ, whoever she is!! And I adore Leslie Mann’s Naeem Khan!! I love the uniqueness of it, the pockets and the color!!

  • nancylee61

Oh, and I am sorry, many may disagree, but Christine Baranski is way too old for such a short dress. I am 50, and would never wear anything that short, even though I could.

  • EEKstl

I did not think it was possible to love you more, and then you go and paraphrase Addison DeWitt.  Love it, boys.

  • Zippypie

I like Lindsay Pulsipher’s dress the best but I think it’s the fab color.  Otherwise, okay fare, but no one knocked it out of the park.  And yes, Juliana Margulies stole my grandmother’s bedspread.  That dress is completely wearing her.

  • Julianna needs a throw pillow or bolster clutch. Kiernan is so sweet!

  • Trisha26

The only real “win” for me on the entire page is Kiernan Shipka (and I despise her on Mad Men) – age-appropriate and glamorous. I love the gowns on Connie, Hayden, Kate, and Sarah. Styling is another matter.

  • cedric21

i think Morena looks stunning :c

  • The Good Wife is giving great dress; love Leslie’s jewelry (it works because of the solid color blocking); and Lena is my favorite vampire of all time now, she should really guest on True Blood or something. Deadly hot.

  • Call me Bee

Julianne Hough–Dress was too small on the boobage area to balance out that huge mermaid skirt.  She looked like she was wearing a blue triangle on stage.  And–it’s too long.
Julianna Morgolis FTW!  Stunning.  Yep–it looked kinda like a bedspread, but was reminiscent of an old Hollywood brocade gown.
Even The Hubs mentioned how unflattering Ms Jan Jones’ makeup was.  Startlingly unflattering.

The rest are pretty.  Except poor Morena.  Such a beauitful woman and such an ugly dress.  She should have the Firely costumers do her wardrobe for every RC.  They always made he look dreamy and gorgeous.

  • Tit-banner.  Love it!  Agree, agree, agree.

  • Larkin21

Completely love Julianna Margulies’ and Sarah Paulson’s dresses. Agree about Sarah’s accessories, though.

The only substantive criticism I have for La Baranski has to do with that really severe nude shoe.

If that dress is actually Stacy Kieblers, why the hell hasn’t she worn it?  It’s a damn sight more impressive than that Amazon’s worn in many an awards season.

Krakowski looks like a gloriously understated waterfall.

Lena Headey?  I thought that was Lara Flynn Boyle, and that’s not a compliment.

Am I the only one disturbed by the name Basil Soda?

That stuff on the skirt of Mare Winningham’s dress is making her look as if her vajayjay is spewing out unfortunate things, and they’re all falling at her feet.

This Reem Acra thing confirms what Claire Danes started: pieces from resort collections have no business on the red carpet.

Connie Briton looks like she has aged like 30 years since AHS.  WTF happened to her.  I gasped, and not in a good way.

  • I hate the trend of strapless dresses with no necklace. I guess it’s just a personal thing, but it really, really hate it.

  • VRuss

Christine Baranski is major fierce!!!! Yes, dress would have been better long, but she still rules. All the other dresses were ok, I guess.

  • Sarah Paulson looks the prettiest ever (if kind of weirdly demurely 1950s), and I kind of love that January can always be relied upon to go out on a fashion limb, not noticing whether she falls off or not.

  • bitchybitchybitchy

OMG-Bride of Dracula immediately popped into my brain as soon as I saw Lena Headley yesterday. And a thousand thanks for quoting Addison DeWitt for Hayden Panettiere!

  • neofashionista

Connie looks like good old Texas cheerleader from waist up
Morena’s dress looked much better on camera than in this photo; to me she looked gorgeous
And I thought julianna’s dress was an enormous improvement over last years lamp shade and one of her personal bests
I loathe hayden’s dress which was just so wrong for her I do not understand why she is trying to be something she is not

  • Let’s all give Joanne Froggatt a hand for finding a soupcon of class this time around.  That’s how it’s done, dear.  Now go home and give the rest of your wardrobe to Britney.

  • librarygrrl64

My #1 out of all of these was Juliana Margulies. Sarah Paulson would have been if she had listened to you re: pewter accents.

  • kimmeister

I love the jewelry color that Betsy Brandt paired with her dress, even if all of the jewelry is matchy.

I hate the seaming on Lindsay P’s dress.  She looks like she has a frowny face on her abdomen.

  • guest2visits

Kiernan Shipka and Leslie Mann both had some cute looks.  I was looking for some prints on the RC; but I didn’t like the ones I saw.
January Jones’ dress looked like a Halloween costume. Several pretty dresses here too; Kate, Lena, Julianne, Jane, Heather…
even Hayden’s combination worked for her, I thought.

  • Kiernan earned a WERQ.  She looks adorable.  My first view of Julianna Margulies dress was when she went on stage, and I was blown away with how beautiful it was.

  • ccm800

“…in custom Zac Posen” the little lamb! So damn chic!!!!!

  • bitterk

With so many beautiful looks donning the runway last week, everyone should have looked spectacular.  Love the Zac Posen, Andrew Gn, Naeem Khan and Armani Prive.  Even the Stella McCartney dress is beautiful.

  • I absolutely freaking LOVE what January Jones has on (even the makeup!), and I almost never say that about her!

Morena Baccarin’s dress is so weird, and that color is just nothing…

  • bellafigura1

Whomever Lindsey Pulsipher is, she wins.

  • boomchicabowwow

Kiernan Shipka is all kinds of adorable and January Jones needs to accept that she is NOT Rooney Mara, no matter how much she wishes to the contrary.

  • patticake1601

You can see Juliana Marguiles bikini top tan lines….major tacky!

  • holdmewhileimnaked

christine baranski is a sixty year old woman in a mini dress. & she is, indeed, how you say, working it. i think thats fabulous.
    january jones is unrecognizable.
most of the rest of these dresses are also decent, i would like the basil soda if it had a different neckline &, of course, if it were becoming to its wearer. it’s conceptually interesting, something most of the rest of these arent. still, a lof of the people in the dresses do look nice [which is, i suppose, what actually matters].

  • From the neck up, Morena Baccarin looks *amazing*.  She looks more meltingly glamorous than I’ve seen her look since Inara.

    • It moved really nice at the Emmys broadcast, too. She looked hot when Homeland won for best drama and she ran onstage.

  • mhleta

Joanne Froggatt in Vivienne Westwood–Ew, no. Baggy flesh-tone fabric around the boobs is never good. It looks like someone let the air out of her cans. Leslie Mann: I agree about the accents, (the standard for turquoise accents set by Eva Mendes shall never fall) but THIS is how to do that incredibly blazing yellow–not head to toe, but with a bit of a break somewhere. Sarah Paulson wins for “Dress I’d Most Like to Snatch off her Body and Wear Myself.”

  • Hayden Pannattieres dress would have been stunning on January Jones.
