WERQ: Viola Davis in Vivienne Westwood

Posted on August 15, 2012

Sure, maybe putting Viola Davis in a white dress is a no-brainer…

Viola Davis attends CBS’ Teacher’s Rock Special Live Concert Press Room in Los Angeles ina white dress by Vivienne Westwood accessorized with coral drop earrings, a green cocktail ring, and gold sandals.

But picking the perfect shoes, earrings, and kickass cocktail ring to go with it? Girl, you betta WERQ. Snaps for excellent accessorizing!

    BAM! That’s a WERQ
Luv huh and love the look.

    • Vanja

It’s getting in ‘BOW DOWN’ territory.

      • mjude

        im already there :)

  • EEKstl

Gawd those shoes are gawgeous.  Spot on, Viola!  Nicely done!

  • Catiline

Every time Viola WERQs it, an angel gets its wings…

I love those shoes and totally gasped at the close-up of the ring.

  • BazoDee

    Flawless!!

  • ChiliP

She looks beautiful. LOVE that ring. The draping seems a bit wonky around the bust, especially on her right side.

    • http://twitter.com/sebwfu Shannon Beamer

Yeah, I’m not sure if this would be a WERQ for me — simply because of the “wonky” draping — but it’s pretty damn good.  Mostly because she is frigging fabulous and the accessorizing is phenomenal.   I would hurt someone for those shoes, for example.  And that ring.

      • ballerinawithagun

I agree, the draping is “wonky” and it appears to be uncomfortably tight in the armhole and the darts aren’t functioning correctly.

  • http://twitter.com/The_Bugler Anna Daugherty

    omg she looks fantaaaaaaastic

  • filmcricket

The accessories are great, and she, as usual, is flawless, but is it me or does the dress not actually fit her that well? She seems to make unerring choices with regards to colour and silhouette, but the fit almost always seems a bit off.

    • http://twitter.com/stellaphone Stella Zawistowski

      That’s why I can’t give this a WERQ.

    • formerlyAnon

It’s odd. I looked at her and was blown away. Then I tried to describe the dress to someone who couldn’t see the photo, and it *sounded* like a rumply mess. But that sure isn’t what I see when I look.

  • Sobaika

I neeeeed her jewelry! Werq, Viola!

  • Judy_J

She looks great.  Glad to see the dress is not fitting too tight.

  • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

**THIS** is the perfect summer look!

  • Jessi03

The shoes!  The jewelry!  The whole look is KILLA!

  • Judih1

Killa look from the neck down. But I would prefer her without the wig, less shine on the face and a bolder lipstick color

  • newleaf1

This woman is so pretty, she could wear a sack and kill it.  Here, she’s amazing.

  • hillmad

    Wow, just wow!

  • rissa42210

yes, nice accessories… but that dress looks like it doesn’t fit right.  I don’t think the dress is werq-worthy.

Tip for the Stars: Always make sure a WALMART logo does not appear right above your head.  See photos 1 and 2. That may be one expensive dress but that logo makes it seem  like a knockoff in VISA polyester.

  • http://twitter.com/cornekopia Shawn EH

    She’s beautiful. And so talented!

  • jilly_d

I would cap a bitch ass for that cocktail ring. WERQ, indeed!

    • NDC_IPCentral

Or you could go straight and buy it…. ;-)

      • jilly_d

ha!  I don’t know what that ring costs, but I’d bet a good chunk of my “straight” teacher’s salary that I can’t afford it.

        • NDC_IPCentral

All kidding aside, there is lovely semi-precious stone jewelry, including chunky rings, on offer at East Wind Silver Company in Chatham, MA, on Cape Cod.  The place carries really interesting jewelry at very affordable prices, and I bet they have a ring that would be similar to the one that Ms. Davis is sporting, for a fraction of the price.  Settings are gold and silver, more silver, with semi-precious stones.  I’ve gotten a lot of pendants, bracelets and rings there and invariably get compliments when I wear them.  http://www.eastwindsilver.com/  Check it out.

      • Amy Ellinger

Where’s the fun in that?  ;-)

  • YourBaloneyDontGotNoSecondName

    she is so pretty.

  • gsk241

    WERQ!

And when you’re finished, I have dibs on that ring!

  • Rand Ortega

    O. Ma. Gahd.
Ms. Davis, I love you like a sister, but hand over the ring & the shoes & nobody gets hurt (‘specially me!)

  • TheLaurenJean

The fit is HORRENDOUS!!!!!!!!! I mean, EVERYTHING else looks fantastic, but the fit! It’s enough for me to call it an out, and I’m not that picky on fit.

    • unbornfawn

Agreed. The fit is driving me crazy. And her poor toes are holding on for dear life.

  • alyce1213

Ouch. I want to love her in a perfect white dress, but this just doesn’t fit properly. The draping, particularly at the bust, is very sloppy.
Had this dress really fit, and had she worn her hair natural, I”d be over the moon with snaps — but not for this.

    • formerlyAnon

I am so with you about her hair. She should never have let herself be photographed with the natural hair because I now hold it up as her “standard” and every other style just has a faint whiff of “third grade teacher fixed up for big occasion back in the day when I was IN third grade.”

Which is patently unfair, I know. Can’t help it.

      (edited, for typos)

      • alyce1213

It’s not unfair.  We love her and want the best for her.

        • julnyes

she has lovely natural hair, but it is a TWA and so that does limit its versatility. Viola obviously likes to change up her hairstyles and wigs are the way to go for that.

          • MaryMitch

            What’s “TWA”?

          • julnyes

Teenie Weenie Afro :) when mine was at that lenth the most variety I could get out of it was different headbands.

  • janetjb

The accessories are nice, but the dress doesn’t fit. I can’t even say she’s “In”.

  • StellaZafella

Viola Davis is a werq of art, but “something” about Westwood I never get is that the finish always looks somehow slap dash…I don’t think the dress photographs nearly as beautifully as it moves…

But then there’s the jewelry…OOOOHHHH yes!

  • VioletFem

Love her in this outfit! She hit every note perfectly.

  • formerlyAnon

    She’s good.

I am very impressed by that ring, and by the brilliance that it took to find a non-tacky way to wear it.

ETA: I just tried to describe her dress without reference to the photo, and I am even more impressed, because it *sounds* as if she ought to look like a rumpled mess and she so entirely does NOT.

  • paultoes

It always makes me pleased to see someone demonstrating that dark skin is beautiful.

  • DaveUWSNYC

    Gorge.

  • PeggyOC

I think she may lead the list of WERQs per person.  TLo, have you done a tally of this?

  • http://twitter.com/#!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

Don’t love her lipstick, but those earrings were inspired.  Perfect accessories FTW!

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1241487378 Lauren Lynch Fox

    She looks great.

  • butter nut

    perfection.

  • luciaphile

Wow, that is one stunning look. Love it all.

  • marilyn

Fantastic!  Cool and well put-together summer look.

  • Anathema_Device

Can’t agree with the WERQ here. That dress isn’t fitting her all that well, plus it is a bit rumpled looking. I’m thinking it needs to be on a woman with a smaller chest. Otherwise, she looks pretty fab.

  • http://viridianpostcard.blogspot.com/ viridian61

My inner nerd wants to get a closer look at that ring, to identify that mineral – not many many minerals are blue-green and they are all interesting.  End of academic nerdfest now.

    • SewingSiren

Is there such thing as a amazonite druzy? Or chrysocolla? Maybe a dyed agate druzy if nether of the former. It’s a beautiful ring at any rate, I agree.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_6PUVFQ7YCZZFZRIER6BEJ4HVYE Amye

Sorry, this is not a work.  The dress is boring and the rucching looks like it’s either twisted on her, or doesn’t fit.  Boring shoes and shiny face do not make this a WERQ IMO.

  • Susan Crawford

This is a FABULOUS look for Madame Viola! The dress is gorgeous, and that druzy ring is making me dizzy with desire. It definitely belongs on my finger! The coral (or pink chalcedony? or whatever?) earrings were a top-notch styling choice. I’m not as enamored of the shoes, but at least she didn’t default to big black platforms or putty-colored stilettoes.

All in all, this is one stylish star.

  • Thathoodwink

She looks gorgeous…but that is the most random kind of ruching that I have seen all month.

  • http://hopelesslysarcastic.blogspot.com illmami

WERQ on the accessories & the dress. But she gets points deducted for that pedicure or lack thereof. Oof.

  • http://vhanna26.typepad.com Vera

    Cute.

  • Call me Bee

Miss Viola looks fantastic.  This is totally HER dress!  I am also very excited–I have the same kick-ass cocktail ring (or one very similar.)  Squeeeee…!

    • SewingSiren

      Could you name the stone?

  • LesYeuxHiboux

Her skin looks incredible with that white. What a gorgeous woman, I could eat her up…and then wear her shoes all around town.

  • lrhoff

Not working for me.  I know you two love her, but this is bordering on favoritism.  Come one, those seams on anyone else would’ve been picked apart shamelessly.  Let’s play fair, boys.

  • quiltrx

Only thing I *might* change is the lip color…you WERQ, girl!

  • ThaliaMenninger

Happy birthday, Viola! (A few days ago. And she’s looking fabulous for 47.)

  • nannypoo

She looks pretty in white and I love the accessories, but this dress does not seem to fit her very well. It seems to have a lot of odd gaps and wrinkles. She always looks good, but she usually looks better than this.

  • pdquick

    Aw, hell yeah.

  • ccm800

tragic hair and her lips disappear under that shade. no.

  • bellafigura1

Stunning, WERQ. She is so obviously enjoying her “moment” it’s actually inspiring.

  • SewingSiren

Love everything. Westwood was a bold choice and bumps the little white cocktail dress up a notch. Shoes, earrings, and ring are fabulous.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_3JSTXMWWVZN2QNP2UEKJMTWD7U Isabel

    Bold, very Bold.

White Girls, take lessons from her and Kelly’s WERQ

  • PrunellaV

    Spectacular. Much better wig, too.

  • TieDye64

    Gorgeous!

  • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

she has the most amazingly beautiful skin color.  deep dark mahogany.  yum.

  • BigWhiteGrannyPanties

I like the look except those earrings.  On my computer screen they read as plastic and tacky.

  • boweryboy

It’s definitely a WERQ but can we talk about the elephant in the room?  Girlfriend is in serious need of a pedi stat.  The dirt under her big toenail and her crusty heels are giving me the heebee jeebees.

  • maggiemaybe

Good God she is FABULOUS! Also I covet that ring.

  • http://profiles.google.com/phyllis.craine Phyllis Craine

Oh but is that a stretch band on that ring?  Ugh

  • bitterk

    She looks amazing
