WERQ: Tyra Banks in Alexander McQueen

Posted on August 01, 2012

Say what you will about Miss Tyra (God knows we have), but the lady can still pull herself together and look pretty amazing, even in a simple little black dress.

Tyra Banks attends the 2012 TCA Summer Tour – CBS, Showtime and The CW Party in a little black dress paired with Alexander McQueen pumps.

Alexander McQueen Skull-embellished Suede Pump

See, lady stars who are not in these pictures? See what Miss Tyra has done here? She took a very simple dress that looks fantastic on her, chose some absolutely perfect accessories to bring the look together, and made sure that there were one or two touches (the print on the clutch, the skulls on the shoes) that elevate the look by bringing some texture, pattern and edge to it. And finally, Miss Tyra made sure a chunk of her prep time was spent in a chair getting her hair and makeup done by people who know how to do her hair and makeup. Result? Just about perfect. No yoga hair, no bland beige shoes, nothing that doesn’t fit correctly, nothing that clashes or seems like it belongs with another outfit. Sure, black and gold isn’t exactly revolutionary or tough to pull off, but the point is she made sure the look was integrated, cohesive, and polished. And really, lady stars (and boy stars too) that’s all we’ve ever asked of you.

You WERQ those two decades of experience, girl. SNAPS.

The irony has not escaped us that her mouth is open in every picture, though.

      I. Want. Those. Shoes.

      • Vaniljekjeks

Me too!  And I don’t like peeptoes.  I want those.  My toes would totally peep for those shoes.

        • carolynmo

Me three! Those shoes are incredible.

        • fursa_saida

EXACTLY. My toes are suddenly peep-curious.

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Lucía-Gavello/1253586868 Lucía Gavello

They are heavenly. They even look COMFORTABLE, how is that possible?

        • kimmeister

Because they actually fit her feet?

    • Paigealicious

I mean, sure, she looks nice…but that dress just seems boring and, dare I say, department store-esque? Lovin’ the skull shoes, though.

      • http://www.tomandlorenzo.com/ Tom and Lorenzo

That’s kind of the point. She took a simple dress and styled it perfectly.

        • Paigealicious

Oh, whoops. Reading comprehension fail :)

    • Sobaika

WERQ. She looks great. I would have like a better lipstick but if anyone can pull off a nude lip it’s a woman of color.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jessica-TallGirl-Freeman/1043623567 Jessica TallGirl Freeman

She may annoy the shit out of me, but I will not deny that she is a Goddess.  WERQ.

    • http://twitter.com/stellaphone Stella Zawistowski

Girlfriend is smizing to beat the band!

      She looks great.

    • hmariec19

      Did girlfriend lose some weight?

      • MilaXX

yeah she has, but then again she’s got that new boy toy

    • http://twitter.com/FlaviaGPantoja Flavia Pantoja

I dunno… She is definitely not rocking my world. Although I wouldn’ mind the shoes…

    • annie_wonder

As much as it pains me to say it…. FIERCE.

    • Judy_J

Miss Tyra shows how it’s done.  Those shoes are KILLER!

    • joancarol

Is that Jeff from Craig Ferguson on her shoes?

      • MilaXX

    • Alisa Rivera

Mostly love it, esp. the shoes, but the clutch looks a bit like a makeup bag to me, not sure why.

    • MoHub

This absolutely defines WERQ. The shoes look like fun, and I bet they’d work just as well in a flat for my heel-less wardrobe.

    • http://twitter.com/Nancer Nancer

Love the look, very classy. This is how you do sexy with style! That said, I am worried about Tyra – she is looking very thin these days.

    • VanessaDK

Maybe she’s a muppet. Kevin Clash (elmo) says keeping their mouths open makes them look happy.

      • YoungSally

Oh Snap!  She could totally be a muppet.

      • PinkLemon

         EXCELLENT film!

    • kcaza

While I salute her WERQing it, I have to note that she’ll still probably show up to ANTM looking like hot buttered ass.

    • call_me_schmeg

how many flies has miss tyra eaten in her lifetime. gurl, close your mouth.

      love the shoes.

    • holdmewhileimnaked

i love those accessories to everlovin death. oh how i wish i had a sugar daddy.

    • MissAnnieRN

I also love the fact that she is sporting some of her own hair attached to her head, as evidenced by her roots.  Sure she may still have some kind of a weave in there for volume, but no wig, and I like it.

    • MilaXX

Gaping mouth aside she looks good. Another point for fit is perfect for the occasion, not too casual and not overly dressy

    • theblondette

She looks great! Those shoes are fun. But now I’m tempted to go on a search for TLo’s views on Tyra… What do the kittens think? She seems to be quite divisive. Her persona often comes off as kinda fake to me, and then now and again she’ll do something funny and real. Hmm…

    • sweetlilvoice

I prefer Tyra’s open mouth and happy expression to the standard sullen starlet. And damn she looks younger than ever. Those shoes are cracking me up. The skulls remind me of day of the dead.

    • http://aldonsusi.blogspot.com/ Susi R

I need those shoes! She looks great!

    • Little_Olive

Good look for her, although the dress is a wee bit short.

The hair inside her left shoe is triggering my OCD like crazy.

      • TheOriginalLulu

Haha, at first I thought that hair was on my monitor, so I sat here like an idiot trying to wipe it away.

    • http://www.ellenciompi.com/ NurseEllen

Great LBD look, perfectly done, totally WERQ-worthy.  I’m wondering if she’s ever been a Project Runway guest judge?  Some of this know-how might create good feedback for the contestants.  Of course, I’m also remembering one time that she was on the red carpet at the Oscars, doing fashion commentary, and while she looked stunning, it seemed she could not muster any intelligent remarks.

    • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

They’re still suede shoes in July/August. I’m starting to sound like a broken record.

    • BazoDee

      She is indeed rocking it!

    • EEKstl

      Gorge.  LOVE the shoes.

    • Pants_are_a_must

But is she smizing enough? IS SHE?

    • Kayceed

You know, I have my share of vintage shoe clips, but the skulls are something else. A very clever person would get these on etsy soonish.

    • RebeccaKW

Blinged out mohawk skull shoes?!  I need!

She’s crazy, but she’s looking pretty fantastic here.

    • Dan_In_NYC

A wise friend once told me that drag queens should have their mouths open when smiling for photos.  It does a certain something to add energy (and an element of ridiculous).   I have employed this sage advice at many a drag party to great effect, and happy to see Tyra carry on the torch.  Werq that drag smile, Tyty!

    • http://www.facebook.com/bert.keeter Bert Keeter

Totally agree with your take on the importance and NEED of doing it ALL right! X

      • Kayceed

Hello Bert! Glad to see you around these parts!

      • nannypoo

We miss you, Bert. Have you seen the nitwits they have this season? I hope you are doing well.

    • alyce1213

A major achievement in good taste for Tyra.  I’m not loving her hair so much, and the dress could be longer for an even more sophisticated vibe, but this is SO MUCH BETTER than usual.  The shoes are beautiful and fun.
      She has pretty toenails, no?

    • Introspective

Say what you want about her nutty ass, bitch TURNED it here.

Id cut her for the shoes and for the bod to rock that dress.

      Werq for sure.

    • l_c_ann

One quibble:  her hair definitely needs a retouching because several inches of roots are showing.  For a comparable root exposure on a natural brunette gone blond, there would be a definite dinging.

    • TheOriginalLulu

I kind of think that black and gold is very hard to pull off, because it can easily look tacky, especially if you throw an animal print into the mix. Or skulls. With rhinestone eyes.

But no, Tyra looks amazingly chic and effortless. What a bod, girl. Congrats! She’s still crazy as an outhouse rat, though. Bless.

    • SewingSiren

Very nice dress and shoes, the bag looks a little big and casual. It also looks empty, so she could have definitely used a smaller clutch.

    • janetjb

      I love.

Overdone dresses with underdone styling is always bad form.

    • marilyn

I think the purse is much too light.  Tyra is a 95 out of 100 here, though.

    • quiltrx

    • MrsKrause

The shoes are great.  And she’s not smizing.

    • Rebecca Jay

      Nice ass TyTy!

    • kimmeister

She looks great, although I wish her brows were a smidge darker.  They practically disappear next to her super smokey eyes.

    • tereliz

I love everything about this outfit, don’t get me wrong, but I feel like summer is such a great time to add a pop of color to an lbd. Of course, with the scent of the September issue of Vogue cloying the air, who doesn’t want to dress like it’s already fall?

I would do anything for those shoes (except pay $1805, Alexander McQueen.com. Not even with free shipping)

    • PinkLemon

This is a look of fierceness that I don’t think would translate so well on any other lady. WERRRRQ IT BITCH.

    • http://www.facebook.com/evie.michael Evie Michael

You guys are right that she looks very put together and chose the right accessories but…I find her so obnoxious that she just never looks good to me!

    • KathKo

mouth open and it’s her classic one shoulder outfit.
Well, we’re not going to change her, are we ?

    • ChaquitaPhilly

WOW, I never even wear heels and I WANT THOSE SHOES! Who knew that gold and diamond skulls could be so compelling?

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/FEP56YB4DUIXBWSLIMSSSGQHWY jimmack

That open mouth look is very popular with every drag queen from the beginning of time. When I see a celeb doing the open mouth “grrrrrrrrrrrr” thing, I think DRAG SHOW!

    • littlemac8

I think she looks great and love that cuff as well as her other accessories.  She looks fabulous and it would be more figure flattering to add a couple of inches to that skirt.

    • http://blue-again.myopenid.com/ blue

She looks divine. And those shoes are awesome.

    • SapphoPoet

      LOVE the shoes.

    • Warmheartedgirl Seattle

Love the shoes AND the bag.  Who did the bag, TLo?  Love it.  Tyra looks amazing.

    • http://twitter.com/cornekopia Shawn EH

And the shoes fit her! She looks great, in fact, almost sane! Unlike on her show, ever.

    • nancylee61

I was just going to say the same thing about her shoes! They must be her own!

      Tyra looks good.

    • lumia8888

Any hints on how to work this kind of dress without killer heels..? if you cant wear them?

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Patrick-Cleary/1201575213 Patrick Cleary

Tyra is crazy as a batshit bat, but she sure does know how to work the garments!

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=688150598 Elizabeth Siegel

      I reeeeeeeeally like that bag.

    • formerlyAnon

I didn’t realize I had any particular feelings about Ms. Tyra until I realized that those are vastly entertaining shoes and I’d have liked them on many, many people but on her I think they’re stupid.

    • aristida_girl

I LUV HUH, and so very much LOVE those shoes!

    • guest2visits

She looks very good; but I really love that clutch more than the dress. I want to love the shoes, but they scare me.

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/Y3OY6COEVBS2STNCUNIRZ3COUE Claudia

It may just be me, but she’s looking all Iman here.

    • frankystein123

I don’t care much for the woman’s uninformed opinions, but for where fashion is concerned, she does consistently make it WERQ.
