WERQ: Bella Heathcote in Jonathan Saunders

Posted on August 27, 2012

We were going to make this one an “In or Out” post, but we stared at these pics for a good ten minutes…

Bella Heathcote attends the premiere of ‘Lawless’ at ArcLight Cinemas in Hollywood in a Jonathan Saunders dress.

… and we can’t come up with one criticism; not even in a devil’s advocate kind of way. That dress is gorgeous and it’s styled to perfection. If that ain’t a WERQ then we don’t know what is. SNAPS up, girl.

But check your lipstick before you walk out on the step-and repeat next time, mkay?

  • Yup. Pretty much perfect.

I kind of love that it looks like she chews her fingernails.

    • MilaXX

She may not be a nail biter. I have nubby nails too. I take water aerobics almost daily and my nails just won’t grow. They split and I cut them down whenever I see a ragged edge. Like Bella, I will polish them  with any color that grabs my attention.

      • My nails rebelled around Christmas time.  I think they were fed up with a manic polish binge that I started a year ago.  Well, either that or they were bummed when I brought them back home to the Upper Midwest from a vacation in Hawaii.

Anyway, they peeled and split and began to look pretty shredded and disreputable, so I made a pilgrimage to Target and stocked up on whatever nail salvation the health and beauty aisles promised me.  Nothing brought discernible improvement until I took the advice of All Lacquered Up and ordered CND Calcium Gel Fortifier, which helped but was a strange pinky-gray color after more than two coats.

Recently my sister-in-law suggested OPI Nail Envy (which stays clear even after the recommended every-other-day applications), and FINALLY my nails are showing growth, while the splitting seems to have bored itself into extinction.  I don’t know if this is of any use to you, Mila, but maybe your nails would reward you for your good intentions.

        • MilaXX

worth a try.. Thanks for the tip.

        • MilaXX

          yep meela

          • Um…  I have no idea what that means.  Will caffeine help me to decode it?

          • MilaXX

sorry, that reply should have gone to someone else. They asked about the pronunciation of my username.

    • maggiemaybe

I had the exact same thought. Stars! They’re just like me!

  • Patricia Gillett

Pretty close to perfect, except for that darn “I gotta pee” pose.

    •  Yeah, I was surprised there was no TLo comment on the pose either.

I’m such a fan of grays and silvers, and also of this silhouette.

  • sweetlilvoice

Love it and love her. She has such a charming old fashioned beauty and she was good in Dark Shadows too.

  • Sobaika

I think I was one of the few people who saw Dark Shadows, and Bella Heathcote is beautiful. As in, congratulations your face is work of art type of beautiful. I like this outfit, but  I don’t think it’s servicing her looks as well as something more ethereal and romantic could have.

    •  I thought it was hilarious (especially the rough sex scene!), but the rest of the audience seemed to be scratching their heads. I don’t think they were old enough to remember the original Dark Shadows…and I’m sure they had no idea who the hell Alice Cooper was, but I thought the movie stood on it’s own as a campy vampire flick.
As for the dress, I think it looks even more beautiful on her than on the model!

  • teensmom99

I like it but am not sure if it has the wow factor of a WERQ.  I think it’s an IN, though.

  • i kept scrolling up and down to see if you really didn’t miss anything and now i’m stunned. dizzy too. it’s so perfect!

  • I bet the designers are going to be falling all over themselves to dress her after these photos get out. The only thing that’s making me tilt my head is the hairstyle. I think it does work, but I think it’s on the verge of not looking put together. I think because I recognize the danger of bad flyaways as I’ve got similar hair texture. Which makes me wonder what kind of product she’s using to control them.

  • Liz

If you REALLY want to find a flaw… looks like you can see major bra in that last photo

    • Yes. She needs to have the armholes tailored a bit. Also, I kind of wish the belt weren’t in the same fabric – solid black maybe? But a really pretty and TASTEFUL (YES!! celebrate it when you see it) dress.

    • MoHub

But ya know—I’m just thrilled she’s wearing a bra, so I’ll give her a pass on it showing.

  • One TINY quibble. Really, its so beensy,…I hesitate to mention it.  Then again we ARE here to be critical, non’?   The fit of the shoulder is off. The arm opening should not gap above the arm, as it does, whenever her arms are at rest at her sides. Its clearly not a posture issue, but a fitting one.

    • T

Excellent eye! That tiny fit issue makes a considerable difference.

  • HomeOfficeGirl

Oooo… I especially like how the dress is making her eyes look gray too!

    •  Me too! I thought the dress offset her eyes beautifully!

  • I LOVE that she chose gold jewellery with a silver dress!

    • 3boysful

I can’t bring myself to do that.  Makes my eye twitch.

  • I kind of love that ‘ladylike’ is having a moment, but I’m afraid it’ll skew mature if I try it.  Still… gorgeous.

  • TheOriginalLulu

That’s a gorgeous dress. She looks fantastic. IN!!

  • CQAussie

Snaps up is right!  This is a great look – but I don’t like the matchy nails.

  • elirt

The only nit pick I have is you can see her bra. I love to wear sleeveless and that’s always the problem I have too.

    • MilaXX

I really think that’s just the dress pattern. It’s just the darker swirl is right under her arm.

  • It looks like there’s a little bit of peek-a-boo bra action going on under her right arm, but it’s so insignificant to me…

I have no idea who this girl is, but she looks fantastic! Love the sexy pointy-toe heel, too!

    • MilaXX

I don’t think that’s her bra. It looks like a bit of the darker pattern in the dress.

      •  In that case, it’s a great look, full stop.

      • l_c_ann

Nope, it’s not pattern, because it goes straight from the bodice front to bodice back.  Now you might want to interpret it as a black function-less gussett.

        • Either way, I think the look is so great overall that what may be a minor fit issue is somewhat negligible in my book.

  • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

Head to toe – awesome.  🙂

  • MilaXX

Another member of the nubby nails club! Love it. She looks really pretty. I like the entire look, especially her eyes, which are made up but not overly done. many a makeup artist would have been tempted to line the ye or go for the retro cat liner. This is just a good use of shadow and mascara. Well played.

  • mjude

    i adore that dress.

  • Vickiefantastico

I don’t know this actress, but yes, that look is darn near perfect. However, what on earth is going on with the model’s unearthly pink legs?!?

  • ASK26

I don’t like the print – it seems…cheap? or something.  She does wear it well, though.

Agree about the lipstick.    and not sure I love the gold bracelet as much as maybe silver or pewter?    so an IN not a WERQ from me.

Nails – reminds me a little of my younger sister and her friends – they all seem to have concave rounded finger nails.

    • PinkLemon

hahaha poignant. methinks a silver/pewter bracelet would be a bit too matchy. agree with the nails/print comments. that print is a bit too cheapy looking for me.

  • Side-view shot: is that a foundation garment showing under her arm?  If so, not WERQ-worthy.

    • l_c_ann

Yes!  Her bra is showing because the top doesn’t fit her, the sleeve hole is too large, etc. etc.

She’s a smaller person than the show model; there should have been a smaller size available for her.

  • SapphoPoet

    Beautiful. Also, she has The.Best.Name.Ever.

  • Is it me or does she look like Heather Graham with dark hair?

  • Judy_J

Cute dress, cute hair.  Shoes appear to be half a size too big.  But overall, very nice.

  • miagain

  • rissa42210

The shoes bore me.  So does the dress, really.  I love a good WERQ, but I don’t think this one is worthy.

  • MarissaLG

Very pretty but GET YOUR NAIL GAME RIGHT, HONEY.

  • TSkot

She would have gained a lot with a less-heavy looking shoe.  And the fingernails do look tacky.

  • Lilak

So, if Leighton Meester and Keira Knightley had a baby . . . ??

    • schadenfreudelicious

with a dose of Heather Graham…..

      • Lilak

        Hah! Too right!!

        • EEKstl

Totally – I’m thinking a Leighton Meester/Heather Graham love child.

  • Amy Ellinger

    faaaaaace!!!!!!!!!!  j’adore this girl.

Please can we continue this gray/silver moment? And how about some extra snaps for a simple, non-platform stiletto?

  • alyce1213

99.8% perfect, love the dress, pretty feminine shoes, everything but — the fingernails. If nails look that bitten, wear fakes or go lighter or neutral to skin. There’s a wee bit of black bra, but I hate to quibble.  I love that she’s wearing gold jewelry with a silver grey dress.

  • Especially with lips like those! She was just as pretty in Dark Shadows, and this dress actually has weird Goth subtext, complete with matching eyes and nails! I love it!

  • Trisha26

  • what’s wrong with the lips?

  • charlotte

She looks (and is named) as if she had stepped right out of a novel. Except for the bra thing. I have that same problem with dresses though. Just had it yesterday. But then again, I don’t walk red carpets.

  • unbornfawn

    She looks lovely.

  • ccm800

Serving up some  Fembot Stepford Wifey realness there. AGREE!  I love agreeing! Believe it or not 🙂

  • I love the shape of the dress.  It’s so classic and so flattering for a variety of figure types.  Great shoes, too.

  • mhleta

The length is perfect on her. The shape of the dress is universally flattering. (Take note real women designers.)

  • guest2visits

Love the dress, she looks adorable.

  • quiltrx

That dress is GORGEOUS!  Definitely a WERQ.

  • Lisa

Oh, that’s a total WERQ!  No way this could have been an In or an Out – it’s total head to toe perfection!

  • ojosazules

    Head to toe lovely.

  • Qitkat

There’s something odd going on with the fit of the belt to me.
While I love the print, I’d like to see it as wallpaper! It would be stunning as a feature wall.

  • Hmm, I don’t know. The silver brings out her eyes, but it makes her look a bit washed out.

  • Rocking the Audrey Hepburn no-fussiness.

  • oohsparkley!

    I agree. Werq!

  • Tamara Hogan

WERQ, Young Actress I Don’t Know, But Whom I’d Strip For THAT DRESS.

  • frankystein123

The doll-like eyes are freaking me out, but yeah, she nailed this outfit.

  • loverungay

Don’t like the silver polish on the nails and think a color shoe would have been nice.  Why do celebs always wear shoes that look too big for their feet?  Does someone hand them a pair just before photo time (like bridal salons keep in the showroom)?
