Taylor Swift in Vintage Prada

Posted on August 31, 2012

Taylor took time off from stalking Kennedy grandchildren to do a little poledancing for MTV.

Taylor Swift on her way to the MTV Studios in New York City in vintage Prada.

She looks really pretty and we have no doubt this looked great on camera (not having tuned into MTV for at least a decade), but those shoes are way too matchy and clunky for such a cute little ladylike dress.

The shoes are expected from her. I covet that dress.

    • http://twitter.com/LigiaRWhitefiel Ligia R. Whitefield

Sometimes she is mildly tolerable,..ExcitementStarts.blogspot.com        but this whole RED GET IT MY ALBUM IS CALLED RED thing is just awful.

  • Sobaika

This look is as girly as it comes, but she has transitioned out of he FLUFFY-TULLE-SPARKLE phase really well.

  • Call me Bee

She looks darling!  Awesome dress, and I disagree about the shoes.  I think they give this look a bit of an edge.

On a side note–I saw a bit of TS’s new video just this morning.  This is country music?  (Granted–I was never a country/western fan, but this is straight up teeny-pop to me…)

    • RebeccaKW

Yes, I agree, there is a lot that is classified as country, but really isn’t.  I think what happens is the group is more country-sounding at first, and I think it’s easier to break into that genre, but then the label tries to cash in on both sides, and they start singing more pop-style songs.  A random cross-over hit is one thing, but to try to be both things at the same time all the time is ridiculous.

    • DeborahJozayt

I don’t  even think the current generation knows what country music truly is unless they scrounge through their grandparent’s vinyls.

    • http://twitter.com/HeckYeahHeckNo KC

I’m pretty sure she’s been slowly transitioning into more pop over the years. Personally I think it is a cute fun song to listen too really loudly while driving your car. I do hope she sticks with mostly country, because I like her country music.

    • http://skshim.tumblr.com SKS

The main version of the song (the one released to mainstream radio and iTunes) is the pop version.  YouTube has the country version, which is (obviously) more country.

She co-wrote the song with Max Martin and Shellback, who have done a lot of singles for Britney, Katy Perry, and Pink.  Hence the poppiness.  :P

  • halleygee

The whole time I was scrolling down I was wondering what you would say about the shoes. I actually like them, kind of adds to the vintage vibe for me.

    • ballerinawithagun

      I love the shoes too!

    • TieDye64

Surprisingly, I like them too and think they look cute with the dress. Somehow she’s pulling off the super matchy matchy.

  • greyhoundgirl

She looks great.  And as far as the stalking etc. behavior?  I always try to remember that these celebs are very young–frontal cortex hasn’t developed yet!

    • Sobaika

She is the same age as Adele and the boy is still in high school.

      • greyhoundgirl

I know but he is over 18 and kids make stupid mistakes all the time–not usually in front of a national audience.  She’s 22 but seems a little stunted while at the same time thinking she’s very mature.  As for Adele (and other balanced celebs in their early 20′s)–I think it’s an age that has great disparities in how mature people are (that frontal cortex again).  And great disparities within the same person.  I can forgive a lot in under 25s–as long as they aren’t hurting people or engaging in discrimination.  I see these disparities in my very mature 24 year old–once in a while I just have to say–”What were you thinking?  Oh, you weren’t!”  while most of the time he’s very together. Sorry–I guess I have my Mom hat on today!

      • SassieCassy

She is NOT the same age as adele OMG

        • jmw1122

Adele is only a year and a half older than Taylor, so there’s not much of a difference in age there. They’re basically peers.

      • Imasewsure

Gotta stick up for Tay vs. Adele this time because personally I’d rather see a 22 yr with an 18 yr old than a 24yr old with a guy in his late 30′s…it seems to be working out for Adele of course but I say play Tay!! Just stop crashing family weddings when you are not invited…

      • MilaXX

THIS! In my 20′s I wouldn’t have looked twice at a high school boy. Hell, in high school I didn’t look twice at high school guys.

    • RebeccaKW

They have been dating approximately 2 months and she bought a house across the street from where he lives with his parents.  At 2 months, I am still unsure about leaving a toothbrush in his bathroom.

      • http://www.GiftedCollector.com Nancy Abrams

Especially if his bathroom is in his parents’ house ’cause he’s still in high school.

    • Jillaine13

I think her fascination with the Kennedy’s for years then dating one is what puts this in the stalking category.  Then to buy a house across the street ’cause the kid still lives at home tips the scales.  What?  Is he the only K male in her general dating age range so she had to go to the younger end of the pool?  If he had a cousin 2 or 3 years older and available she would have pursued him first.  I like the dress and the shoes but don’t care for the nylon looking hair.

  • sariebee

I love the shoes. I think T-Lo are just grumpy and hungover from last night’s PR. xo

    • Vickiefantastico

I was thinking the same thing! :-) The shoes are adorable.

    • http://twitter.com/foodycatAlicia foodycatAlicia

I love the shoes, but that is from the “I’m a normal woman living normal life” position, which TLo have made it pretty clear they don’t comment on. And from the “this woman gets given stuff by major labels and has a stylist” position, I totally see their point.

  • newleaf1

I love the look.  The shoes are really cute.  Sorry TLo – can I get you a little hair o’the dog?

  • Squarah

Ugh, she’s the worst. It seems like we’ve all got a celebrity or too that just irritates the shit out of us and she’s definitely it for me. Sometimes she is mildly tolerable, but this whole RED GET IT MY ALBUM IS CALLED RED thing is just awful.

    • AthenaJ

Agreed, she is waaaaay too precious for my taste.

    • call_me_schmeg

i was thinking “that a whole lotta red” and then i saw your comment and put it in the google and oh hell no she is not wearing all red because that’s the title of her new album OH FOR THE LOVE OF GAWD.

      i give up.

    • http://twitter.com/foodycatAlicia foodycatAlicia

Her album is called red? Christ. I just take back every nice thing I thought about her. Theming your frock to your album title is beyond the pale.

    • piecesofconfetti

Her whole “wounded little kitten” act is just too much for me. She irks me like no other!

Which is why it pains me that she looks cute here.

  • mhleta

She looks lovely. I’m okay with the matchy because, damn, those are some shoes!

  • KELLEYKAT

LOOK!!!  The shoes actually fit!!! Yay!

  • http://www.facebook.com/kristinbrennan Kristin Brennan

the shoes are ADORABLE and compliment the softness of the dress really well :)

  • mhleta

Let me just say also that part of the reason that I’m so hard on Mylie Cyrus is because of the standards set by Miss Taylor Swift. Sure, TS may drag her former lovers out and publicly flay them a bit more often than perhaps she should, but stylistically and artistically she knows who she is, and always stays true to herself. She’s mostly above adolescent public displays of the “Why isn’t anyone paying attention to meeeee??” sort. She also cherishes and is respectful to her young fans, and as a mother, that carries a lot of currency with me.

    • MilaXX

eh, I find her style boring and a bit Stepford wife like. As much as I personally rag on Miley, she makes the mistakes that our teen years are for and honestly lately she is dressing more her age than Taylor who looks like she dresses from Barbie’s look book and is currently going through the section entitled “Cape Cod Barbie”.

  • Allyson Wells

Matchy yes, but I don’t think they’re too clunky at all. I looove those shoes!

  • homespunner

Beautiful, but please, Taylor, for the love of God – shoulders back, head up.

  • http://twitter.com/#!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

Only Twee Swift could turn Vintage Prada into a ‘going to Grandma’s house’ ensemble.  All that’s missing is a cardigan and Aunt Betty’s straw purse.

    • BarbaraNovak

I love straw purses.  But yes.

  • mshesterp

LOVE the dress, wish she would’ve gone with a black heel (or maybe gold).  Who does matchy matchy shoes anymore?

  • http://twitter.com/stellaphone Stella Zawistowski

She matched her shoes, her lipstick, AND the dress? Does that mean that if you date a Kennedy you have to start dressing like an old-school political wife?

    • Spicytomato1

Yes. You’d think between this and the glam-prepster look she unveiled recently aboard a Kennedy sailboat her new mantra is What Would Jackie Do (WWJD)?

    • http://profiles.google.com/thehilariest The Hilariest

AND her mani/pedi. All the same color. Meh.

  • http://twitter.com/dollsaga Dollsaga

she is really pretty. I Like both the dress & shoes. I have no problem with “matchy-matchy” –that’s the way it’s supposed to be.

  • Spicytomato1

I like each of the elements separately but it’s all way too matchy together, including the lips. Even less becoming is the stalker vibe I now automatically get, regardless of what she’s wearing.

  • http://twitter.com/LianaBrooks Liana Brooks

Why is Aqua’s BARBIE GIRL running through my head right now?

  • tallgirl1204

I think it’s super cute.  I think the matchy is “unexpected” and is o.k. to do occasionally to change things up.  It’s flirty in a non-Lea-Michele way (a good thing) and I like it all.  But then, I’m probably older than her mom, so what do I know?

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/J2VE4NE2FY2BP4QD2XOYKJGLPI Laura

The shoes work for me. Overall I think she looks great

    • Clueless_Jock

      Same here. Perfection.

  • ojosazules

She looks lovely, but I do not like those shoes at all.

  • imspinningaround

I don’t know what season this dress is from, but I’m hoping it goes back to the ’90s–the shoes add to the late-’90s vibe of the dress.

More importantly, is that a wig?

  • another_laura

The shoes, the shoes….  It’s the straight cut of the heel and the color.  Same shoe, kitten heel, maybe in a brown or something? = lovely.

  • http://twitter.com/watchinginkdry Krysta

That’s a lot of makeup.  And a lot of red all over everything.

  • katiemckinnie

Is it just me, or does her hair look wig-ish? And definite no on the shoes. Love the dress.

    • Spicytomato1

It’s not just you. The color looks straight out of the same bottle Cheryl Tiegs and friends used in the 70s. And the texture, combined with that harsh color, makes it look like doll hair to me.

  • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

    Stepford Barbie.

  • bookish

I LOVE that dress. Also, that is what I wish my bangs looked like.

  • formerlyAnon

Her handler makes me pine for a glimpse of Gaga’s HGH.

  • mjude

the  dress is adorable on her.  shoes for sure to matchy.

  • Anathema_Device

I like the whole look, including the shoes.

  • FashionShowAtLunch

God I love those shoes. Can you imagine them with a different outfit? They would be killer if they were paired something a little edgier.

  • teensmom99

LOVE the dress but I find that the shoes take away the focus in a really distracting way.  unfortunate.

  • MilaXX

    she’s so boooooring!

  • http://profiles.google.com/ameliaheartsu Amelia Logan

She never changes up her make up. Ever.

  • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

I’m surprised to admit it, but the shoes work with the dress. She looks cute and sweet without being too saccharine.

  • Judy_J

Pretty dress, unfortunate choice of shoes.

  • https://twitter.com/LisaF1163 Lisa

Dull.  I mean, she looks cute, but she never ever changes that “Flawless Painted 1950s Barbie” look.

  • GorgeousThings

With the hair, the bangs, and the red lips, for some reason she reminds me of Traci Lords.

And she should definitely stop stalking the Kennedy kids. Ew!

  • RoxieRider

What does “vintage” mean here? And how far back does something need to go to be vintage?

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Beth-Rang/1362051737 Beth Rang

I like the shoes too. They remind me of Barbie shoes, which I find oddly appropriate for MTV.

  • guest2visits

Omg; this looks great on her; love it all.

  • LesYeuxHiboux

I actually like the chunky shoe because she is young. This dress with a pump would skew older to me, since the dress is a very classic shape with a longer hem and modest coverage up top. Maybe too matchy, but…she’s Taylor Swift. Girl’s all about matchy. She looks good, growing up and leaving behind some of that saccharine twee.

  • unbornfawn

I think it all works. She looks lovely.

  • Laylalola

Look at me, I’m Sandra Dee.

    • Introspective

Elvis! Elvis! Let me be… Keep that pelvis far from me…

      Stockard Channing is amazing.

Oh as for Tay- double yawn even when shes in bright red. The Sandra Dee reference is pitch perfect cause shes sickeningly twee here.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/Q6P4CM5OIVTBUTMTOMDKHZXY3U Carli Maree

TS – meh, whatever, BUT (slightly OT, sorry) – it really makes me MAD to see the people around the celebs dressed down so much! I hate seeing it at RC events – celebs all dressed up surrounded by ultra-casual, no-effort-whoever-they-ares…

Too much visual dissonance… I just want everyone to look elegant all the time, is that too much to ask?

  • alyce1213

The shoes are fucking fabulous, with that dress and on their own.

  • ccm800

This chick is just frikkin gross. I think she looks like queen of the mean girls DESPITE her PR. Full class power psycho.

  • quiltrx

That’s a really pretty dress, and she looks great in it!  I actually think the shoes are okay–if they were showing them from the back, they do look clunky, but from the front they’re fine to me.

  • glennethph

One of these days, it’ll be revealed that she’s cray cray.  That whole kerfuffle about her exes and writing songs about them are really lies she perpetuates for the money. ugh, I dislike her so much.

  • http://twitter.com/backinstylecom Back-In-Style.com

Love the dress!  Although it doesn’t look that vintage, and reminds me of Prada’s recent collections for a few years ago.  How old do you think it is?

  • bukker

Is Prada old enough to have pieces considered vintage?

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_DJQMGJU7MZMBVLSD4GUTPJEPD4 murt

way too matchy for me – especially with the makeup.

  • PeaceBang

I could do without the head-to-toe splotches of EXACTLY the same color.

  • Rebecca J.

I gotta stop clicking on posts of celebs I can’t stand.  I get annoyed just looking at them.

I did it with shelly-o .. I can do it with swifty.  I can.

  • http://blue-again.myopenid.com/ blue

    I want those shoes!

  • loverungay

I think the shoes are great, maybe too matchy for this dress but they look fab on her feet and imagine them with a dark dress or suit!

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/2LIE6ISFQUBIAO7OB6U5TAVXXQ Depot'er

Wow, I actually agreed with T”lo completely. The more I look at it the more I can’t stop looking at the bug-stompery shoes… the dress is very ‘her’ (cute, well put together, apropriate) but something about the shoes…not working (but what would you have done instead folks?)

  • enchanted216

    Clunky shoes are back:)
