T LOunge

Leave your passports at home, darlings! We’re dashing off to exotic ASTORIA tonight!

Cienna Ultralounge, Astoria, Queens, NY

International intrigue, Queens-style, bitches!

Guest judges Rachael Roy and Hayden Panettiere, Nina Garcia, Michael Kors and Heidi Klum from the fourth challenge of Project Runway season 10.

Oh please. Hayden has proven over and over again that she can’t even dress herself. Like anyone’s going to care what she has to say tonight. In fact, we propose that if she says “I would totally wear that!” about anyone’s outfit, that person should be immediately eliminated without so much as an Auf Wiedersehen.

DRAMA! TEARS! PUSSIES WHO NEVER SHOULD HAVE TRIED OUT FOR THE SHOW!

Please.

We’re far more excited that we got a new PR Toon from old T Lo friend, Alex! Out of the blue, he emailed us yesterday with the following strip and the words, “I haven’t watched a season in 3 years. Did I come close?”

Actually, yes. You did come close, Alex. You’d only need to change a gender or race here and there and you pretty much have this year’s cast. And last year’s. And the year before that.

On the other hand, Tom clearly needs to make a trip to Brooklyn to visit Alex, because he seems to think that Tom is much more chiseled and gaunt than he actually is. Lorenzo drawn like a Peanuts character? That’s just fucking genius. We want a strip of him screaming at Lucy and calling her a bitch. She’ll never even think of trying that football trick on anyone again.

In other news, we won’t be watching along with you tonight, kittens because we’ll be on the Derek and Romaine show on Sirius OutQ 108 starting at 7p eastern (which is why this post is going up a little early). All Precious Unborn Fawns are invited, nay, directed, to call in (866-305-6887) and chat all things Project Runway or T Lo-related.

Sighing heavily over my employee schedules, I will join y’all for an early round or three. Set me up with a Lemon Drop. Uncle Kiltd is feeling fruity today.

      • Nelliebelle1197

I LOVE it when you are fruity! My favorite flavor….

        • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

And always a little tart. (smirking)

    • mjude

OMG..Alex its so good to see your work again!  as always right on the money.

bitter kittens please join me for some champagne or an adult beverage of your choice. 1st round on me!

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Lucía-Gavello/1253586868 Lucía Gavello

Ditto here! I missed Alex :) I never watch this live (being Argentinian and all) but I’ll join you guys for a drink, I’ll take a Mojito please!  And anyone knows why Rachel looks like an unusually polished librarian here?

      • http://www.facebook.com/cue5c Conner Emery

No matter what happens tonight, I’m happy purely because of Alex. I missed his comics and constant crushes.

    • Hermione_Granger

Yes, please to the comic strip of Lorenzo and Lucy. I’ll be counting on him to tell her that blue dress is twee as fuck and that she should send it to Michelle Williams.

      • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

He also has to rant on her hairstyle, complete lack of make up, and attrocious shoes that look like orthopedic oxfords.

        • Hermione_Granger

I will cosign on this. Lucy THOUGHT she was bitchy, but she never went toe-to-orthopedic toe with our Lorenzo.

          • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Or any of us Extremely Bitter Kittens when we have our righteous sartorial ire up.

        • tonibaloney

           Auntie Mame reference?

          • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Very good! The shoes worn by Agnes Gooch.

            • rh33

And don’t forgot how decorative books are!

            • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

“Oh my, what a stunning apartment. I think books are so decorative, don’t you?”
              Gloria Upson

            • http://www.GiftedCollector.com Nancy Abrams

My proudly stupid (ex) brother- and sister-in-law built a library loft over their living room and bought books by the yard to fill the shelves. Chose them for their bindings, not their content.

            • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

I, uh, I’m. I have no words. I’m so sorry.

            • tonibaloney

All said with apparent lockjaw. Oh, I love “Little Glorie”!

            • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

“And I STEPPED on the ping pong ball. Just squashed it to bits. So we had to go to the closet to get another one, and the door was locked! Can you imagine?”
Is it sad that I know so much of this?

            • GorgeousThings

And do you know what they were serving? Daiquiries… made with honey!

            • baxterbaby

Not at all.  I live for the moment Mame, in her widow’s weeds, turns to reveal that deep deep back with the lilac ribbon bow!

            • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

“Vera, they’ve given me a ghost!”

            • tonibaloney

               Never!

“We had to call the whole thing off! Well, it was ghastly! It was JUUUUUST ghastly.”

“But it was amusing! *titter titter*”

            • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

“Hah hah ha ha ha. It HILARIOUS.”
              “What is Auntie Vera?”
              “Your story.”

            • Munchkn

Larchmont Lockjaw, I believe, even though Gloria was a Aryan from Darien

            • Susan Crawford

“Why Agnes! You DO have a bust!” (Auntie Mame – my lifetime girl-crush, style icon and all-around guru.)

            • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Undeniable that she could wear clothes that normal mortals dare not attempt. Her all blue.
Outfit that she wears shopping with Lindsay, with the miles of dyed blue fox trim, for example.

        • muzan-e

For one strange, delicious moment I misread and thought you were talking about Hayden.

    • SapphoPoet

Love the comic. Spot on. I will be watching tomorrow or whenever Lifetime uploads the episode to its website; looking forward to all the drama; hopefully there will be some clothes. :)

    • Sobaika

      “Sassy Gay! Hausfrau!”

      DEAD.

    • Call me Bee

Oooh a gorgeous blue lounge.  Very blue.  I will drown my sorrows in a Stoli martini straight up two olives (aka “the usual”) because it’s been sunny and (way too) hot for three frickin’ months, and the day The Hubs and I want to go to the state fair– it rains.  And rains and rains.  *sigh*  I love the fair–it’s about the only place I know where I feel truly skinny.  (God bless the Wiscosnin farmers!)

Loved the cartoon!  Tell Alex. “well done!” from me.   He got it perfect, save for the expression:  “…in the history of Project Runway!”  Perfect.

      • alyce1213

        The lounge changes color, frequently.

        • formerlyAnon

Cool. Best drink fast so the drinks can coordinate? Or stick with something pale & reflective?

    • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

Is there a reason for them to have both the cheerleader and Roy on tonight?  I’m always confused when they have two guests for no apparent reason.

      • NCDFan

I think they’ve learned that when they have a guest judge who is clueless they need a real guest judge to give a meaningful opinion.

    • http://twitter.com/MajorBedhead MajorBedhead

I see Heidi is sporting the Wilma Flintstone line this evening.

It’s hot as balls here (again. Still.) so I’ll have something icy. Chambord, vodka & a dash of sour mix, please. In a BIG glass.

      • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Oh, MB, you are So right. Wilma Flintsone Cougar Realness.

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_BMEASIKJSVE6YP3DE2VLJA5CUU JulieJ

I may also need that drink.

      • alyce1213

Jesus H Christ, she’s really wearing a one-shoulder animal print!  You can’t make this stuff up.

        • 3boysful

Just went back up to check it out, and . . . WHAT ON EARTH is the cheerleader wearing on her feet???

        • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Honestagawd. All that’s missing is the bone in her hair.

        • bitchybitchybitchy

Honestly, The Kluminator is really on the young side to be going cougar on us!

          • alyce1213

More a state of mind than age maybe.

        • Little_Olive

One-shoulder AUGMENTED PRINT animal print. Give her Hayden’s shoes and she’s got herself her next Haloween costume.

      • 3boysful

I’ll have the same!  Sounds delish.

      • tereliz

Flintstone fabulous! That’s exactly what I thought when I saw the dress on last week’s promo!

      • sockandaphone

definitely needing that drink. day 3 of heatwave and the weekend has never looked so dreadful (work has AC, but my house doesnt!)

      • Call me Bee

I also watched the re-runs of season 5 this morning–and Heidi was dressed so nice and demurely–cute dresses with not a hint of cougar in them.  Some short, some tight, some shiny, but never together.  That was 2007.  It’s a strange new world in 2012.  *sigh*

      • Little_Olive

Oh my, I think I’ma change my negroni sbagliatto (1 part champaigne, 1 part campari, 1 part martini, one orange slice) for that sexy mix.

Wilma’s gonna look a helluvalot better.

    • formerlyAnon

So great that Alex turns his attention to TLo & PR, however briefly.

      Young Gay’s Bambi eyes!

      • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

I think I’d have to shoot for either the crazy person slot or the hausfrau slot — I’m not doing my make-up and hair every day to hit the hot girl slot, and I definitely don’t qualify for one of the gay slots.  Unless… I wonder if I could convince them that I have a gay male alter who is a drag queen and does all the sewing.  “I couldn’t finish my dress because my alter got pissed at me and wouldn’t come out to work”  That’s like 4 character slots filled right there!  I wouldn’t have to sew a damn thing and they’d keep me around for the drama factor!  :P

        • formerlyAnon

I think your only difficulty will be choosing the dramatic twist with the most staying power!

          • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

I’m thinking I’ll throw in a different one for each challenge — maybe two per challenge.  I could really use 100K and I’m not really sure that I have anywhere near the talent needed to win on merit, but I’m quite certain I could out-crazy anyone else on the cast.

Though I did come up with better designs for everyone last week except April. Hers was good enough I couldn’t top it quickly.

    • drjennyd

Thank you for opening the Lounge up early TLo!!!  I need relief now!  BTW–Sonjia’s model, Alex–I’m friends with her mom!!!  We are cheering for Sonjia to do well.  But of course the producers will screw with the designers and make them give up their models!

    • Eclectic Mayhem

I like Dimitri’s socks, I’m very happy to see a cartoon from Alex, have fun on the radio show TLo!

      *settles into comfy chair*

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=816120314 Chason Dailey

” Lorenzo drawn like a Peanuts character? That’s just fucking genius.”
Completely lost my shit over this one. Also, this Alex character is some kind or sorcerer (and an excellent cartoonist, clearly!).

      • Maggie Muellner

Ah. Alex goes back to the early seasons of Project Runway before tomandlorenzo dot com, when TLo presided over Project Rungay. We used to see an Alex cartoon almost every week!

        • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=816120314 Chason Dailey

This makes sense. I came to PRgay for RPDR, have only ever seen a handful of PR episodes, and only recently started reading recaps with any consistency.

    • formerlyAnon

I’m thinking that this might be the bellwether episode for me.

So far, despite silly nonsense from contestants and an increasing drift toward openly gerrymandered judging I’ve been enjoying this season – some real skill, a little creativity, even a tiny risk taken here & there and nobody who’s yet been kept in the game over someone who didn’t deserve to go home.

But eventually (soon) they’re going to run out of people who deserve to go home that they are also willing to send home.

I hope I’m wrong.  And I hope Kooan has a great episode and no one makes him sad. ‘Cause I think that he’s going to last just past the midway point and I want to see something fun and inspired from him first – and see him praised for it. Because he’s likable.

      • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

I agree, and his aesthetic is a real and widely spread one, just less so in the USA. He deserves better than he will get. But ultimately, he will be used as brightly colored cannon fodder. Sigh.

      • http://viridianpostcard.blogspot.com/ viridian61

If Kooan can last to the midway point, I hope he can get to show a decoy collection at Fashion Week.  THAT would be interesting!

    • Lilithcat

I’ll be missing tonight, as well, as I’m off to a play (well, two, actually – two one-person shows).  So I’ll have to wait for the On Demand rerun.

Style Network has been rerunning old seasons, and today I watched a couple from season 4 – the prom challenge and the avant-garde challenge. It really struck me how much more workroom time we got in one hour than we do in 90 minutes.  A lot less of the judges’ comments, and a lot less drama.

I’m thrilled to see Alex’s strip again.  Please, do whatever it takes to get him to do more!

      You’d only need to change a gender .  .  .  here and there .  .  .

Speaking of which, did y’all see that Andy South is transitioning?  http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-2164937/Transgender-Project-Runway-finalist-Andy-South-debuts-identity-woman-named-Nong.html

      • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

I had heard that but the link I had for it was broken.  Thanks for a working one!

      • Eclectic Mayhem

Take anything and everything you read in The Daily Mail with a hefty dose of salt – it’s a nasty, right-wing, piece of crap rag.  Whoever put that “article” together didn’t even have the wit to identify Mondo and Casanova; way to do your research Daily Mail!

If Andy really is transitioning then very best wishes to her.

        • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

Seems fairly legit, I’ve heard it mentioned elsewhere as well.

        • Lilithcat

It’s in quite a few other places as well; I posted the link to the Mail because it had more information, and the images.

      • Call me Bee

Well good for her.  She’s beautiful!  And how fun to see Cazzzzannnooooohvah again!

    • kat89

Love the strip! Can’t wait for the show tonight! And, Happy Birthday to the Duchess!

    • Little_Olive

Is the Duchess wearing WHITE PANTS? Before Labor Day yes, but with a black turtleneck? Ew.

      • l_c_ann

He and Heidi are having an Ugly-Off, who can out uglify the other, and for that, Heidi pulled out her dress with the oversized leopardskin print.

      • formerlyAnon

Now, now. You’ll drive him back to the black slacks and dark wash jeans.

        • Little_Olive

I think I prefer that! (as in a “lesser of two evils” kind of way).

I mean, pairing heavy black garments at the top with wishy-washy-style-white-pants at the bottom? what is that, the Sopranos on vacay?

      • Sweetbetty

He had those pants on last week, a big change from his all black look.

    • alyce1213

      Bravo Alex.  Brilliant.

      • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

Your endocrinologist should get together with my neurologist, because I was just thinking that about her.

        • Call me Bee

She kinda looks like my internest as well.  Huh.

    • http://viridianpostcard.blogspot.com/ viridian61

New bottle of tequila in the house!  And the smell is taking me back to…. shots in grad school? Margaritas at happy hour when I had my first professional job?  Whatever, it’s margaritas tonight to get me through the tears of this episode.

    • SewingSiren

I’d call and fawn over you boys, even tho I don’t have Sirius. But I’ve lost my voice (some summer bug), so I cant’t .Aren’t you releaved?
Alex is remarkably accurate, especially Elena. If anyone ever draws a cartoon of me, I hope they make me more gaunt than I actually am. Strike that my son actually drew a cartoon of me mowing the grass wearing a sequin skirt. It was awesome. My kids think I’m fierce.

      • BrooklynBomber

my son actually drew a cartoon of me mowing the grass wearing a sequin skirt.
I think it’s time for a new avatar, baby!

        • formerlyAnon

           Oh YEAH!

      • GorgeousThings

        My kids think I’m fierce.
        And they are right!!!

    • sockandaphone

gonna be alternating between this and the olympics. Ill have anything to cool me down from this dreadful weather.

    • muzan-e

Four hours deciphering .json files to sate glitter-hungry Brazilian tweens.

Frankly, I’ll drink anything you set in front of me.

      • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

        (shuddering in sympathy)

        • muzan-e

I hope you don’t mind me mentioning, but your blog was a beautifully refreshing read at the end of a long day.

          • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

I am deeply flattered. And very glad it was meaningful.

            • Susan Crawford

Your blog is more than meaningful to me – it is a revelation that came at just the right moment. Thank you.

            • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

I makes me smile to know this. Thanks for sharing back.

            • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

I didn’t know you had a blog!  Cool, I’m adding it to my reading list:)

            • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Been a LONG time since I posted there. i guess its time to update. (ahem)

      • BrooklynBomber

I don’t even know what that means!  (The first sentence, that is. The second one I understand completely.)

        • Sara__B

I just “read” a Wikipedia article on .json files and I STILL don’t know what that means!

        • muzan-e

This .json’s just a long page filled with many, many numerical values; if I don’t miss a comma or anything, it will cause a young girl’s virtual avatar to jump out of a gift box in an explosion of confetti and glittery hearts. And that’d be fantastic if I actually had a head for numbers, but since I don’t, my eyes are bleeding.

So I’d love to buy the first round for all of you. *g*

          • Call me Bee

            Well I’m impressed.  :)

    • BrooklynBomber

      Alex!!

    • http://CallMeJane.com/ CallMeJane

Oh Alex where have you been??  I can’t believe it’s been three seasons. How long have I been tracking this blog?  Brilliant comic and I’m embarrassed that as formulaic as it’s become, I’m still attached.  There really should be a recovery group somewhere.

    • Tawreos

I’ll have a Stoli Raz and Cran please and keep them coming till the fashion is good and the judging makes sense.

      • Call me Bee

I’d join you, but I’m a-feared we’d both be way under the table before that happens!!  And I just can’t take the headache tomorrow…

    • NDC_IPCentral

Thank you, Alex!  You made my afternoon!  (Pretty quiet life…).  Enjoy your time discoursing on the Sirius airwaves, gentlemen.

As for tonight’s show, let’s have some design, and ash-can the drama?  Purty puh-leeze?  Well, a gal can hope, but that hope is surely one to be dashed on the Bunim-Murray rocks ‘o rachet-it-up.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1241487378 Lauren Lynch Fox

      Love the strip!

    • formerlyAnon

O.k., guys & gals – be at your scintillating best as I must leave you & will have to rely on these comments early in the a.m. before the show’s online. (Staying with a friend this week to do a bit of care-taking – nothing serious, just a messy broken leg with plates & screws & idiosyncratic reactions to meds & lions & tigers & bears, oh my!)

Next round’s on me. If anyone gets silly, no video! We are all friends here.

      • Call me Bee

Sending good thoughts for your friend’s recovery.  Broke bones are a total bitch.  She’s lucky to have a nice friend to care for her.

      • SapphoPoet

Good for you to help your friend. Project Runway and the Bitter Kittens will be here upon your return. Sending fast healing karma to your friend’s broken leg.

    • Miranda Prince

Cartoon Lorenzo is so cute! I want a little plush doll of him!

    • siriuslover

Alex!!! And a bar that looks like icicles are hanging from the lamps! coolness is complete!

    • http://twitter.com/thedogsmother thedogsmother

rats! My theory about the visit to M.Kors shop is all shot to hell! Everyone is there in the picture. Now I’ll have to wait!!

      • SapphoPoet

So presumably two others designers bail AFTER the trip to Kors’ shop?

        • MilaXX

           isn’t one asked to leave?

          • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

I don’t think so… I think the remaining one had a breakdown and they brought in a shrink and it was decided that it was best for his/her mental health.

    • http://twitter.com/thedogsmother thedogsmother

      PS — ALEX!!! xoxoxoxo

    • BobStPaul

Rachel Roy has always been a terrible judge – yet they continue to invite her back.  Yet another mystery of the universe.

      • BobStPaul

She was actually quite good this evening, causing me to retract the above comment.

    • GorgeousThings

Oh darn – No TLo with us tonight? Hmmm…. if it weren’t for Andrea packing up in the middle of the night, I’d totally listen to your show instead. But I do want to see what went on.

      And ALEX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This show would be so improved by more Alex cartoons.

    • GorgeousThings

PS, I’m bored with this season already so I’ll just have a sauvignon blanc. This season does not merit champagne.

      • Call me Bee

Ahhh but a visit to the TLounge DOES merit champagne, so let me buy.  A lovely Veuve Cliquot for my friend here, Bartend!

        • GorgeousThings

Oooo, thanks Bee! Pull up a glass and let’s split a bottle. :)

          • Call me Bee

I had a little trouble with “diqus” so my reply to you has shown up at the end of the comments.  Twice.  I tried to delete, but they are still there.  *sigh*  I hate it when things don’t work the way they should…which is, like, every day.  LOL….  Yes–let’s have some bubbly!

    • suzq

Yay!  Something to listen to on my way home!

    • Laylalola

For some reason this particular group of designers is really taking me back to early 1990s pre-grunge pre-goth unwashed styles worn by me and all my friends in our 20s. That includes hairstyles. I can almost smell the group from here.

Hurray, an Alex! comic strip! I have sorely missed those.

    • Pam Winters

Well well. What goes with spaghetti bolognese? Aw, bump it; in DC in August, gin and tonic goes with everything.

How I wish they’d have to dress Chloe Sevigny one of these days.

Welcome, Alex! I hope we get more ‘toons.

      • 3boysful

What a great challenge!  From your keyboard to producers’ ears . . . .

    • http://twitter.com/jahnapeloquin jahnapeloquin

Any Minneapolitans in the house, free free to swing by moto-i for l’etoile’s weekly viewing party. We’ve got drink specials, the show projected on a screen, and Raul Osorio in the house. 8pm!

    • Tatiana Luján

I want Dimitri and Melissa to become best friends, they’re my favorite contestants this season.

      • SapphoPoet

        Yes, me too.

      • Logo Girl

I do think Melissa is going to win the whole thing. It was my first impression/wild guess and I’m sticking by it :-)

She sort of irks me as this kind of suburbanite who moves to San Francisco to be “dark” and “cool”, but last week’s effort with Dmitri was impressive.

    • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

Added wine to the pasta sauce and my hand slipped – OH WELL. Also have a glass of wine. I’m ready for this shit.
Also, last day of summer associateship tomorrow. CELEBRATION.

      • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

In the future, just cook it longer and then taste it to see what it needs.

        • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

I would have if it hadn’t been reheated pasta sauce in the microwave. /lazy law student.

    • http://www.facebook.com/xerapis David Louis Quick

Ugh. Ven is just so smug. I can’t stand his face. =drinks more screwdrivers=

      • MilaXX

I have a feeling he’ll be this years Emilio.

        • Stubenville

I think he’s actually a secret HP made android. That explains the complete lack of emotion.

          • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1344922354 Eric Scheirer Stott

I think he’s turning into a one trick pony. Kenley’s dress was just some tricky pleating on an otherwise basic (if nice) dress- and it was very stiff.

            • Sweetbetty

It looks like Dimitry stole his thunder tonight.

      • Sweetbetty

I actually caught a flicker of what appeared to be a sincere smile from him tonight.

    • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

Also, I live right off of the bridge from Queens – I should go there. Is it super expensive? /studentbudget

    • MilaXX

Late to the party. Olympic fever has got me good. I gave a deep love for the obscure sports so to day was filled with rhythmic gymnastics, open water swimming and group synchronized swimming. Nonetheless I’ll be in the lounge, drinks in hand.
      Alex’s toon is genius!

    • ThaliaMenninger

We went out for Crazy Noodle. I usually base my predictions of who’s going home based on what I had for dinner, so… Crazy Noodle. Frokemon, right?

    • Daenyx

Just watched the trailer… sooo… what’s this episode about, then?  >.<

More beer.  That's what it's about.

    • Call me Bee

Ah I almost agree.  I still have hope for the season (though it’s fading fast.)   But–being in the TLounge with virtual friends DOEs merit champage, so it’ll me on me.   A lovley Veuve Cliquot for my firend here.

    • Guest

Ahhhh I almost agree.  I still have hope for the season, andwith designers running off, tonihgt’s episode may be pretty entertaining.  Anyway–being in the TLounge DOES merit champagne, so let me buy.  Bartend–a lovely Veuve Cliquot for my friend here.

    • NDC_IPCentral

Oh man, I want to watch the 800 meter finals on NBC… well, that’s a lot more genuine than what tonight’s PR episode will be.  Go, David Rudisha of Kenya!!

      • MilaXX

I watched before I came over. Won’t tell you the outcome.

        • NDC_IPCentral

           Thrilling race – what mastery!

      • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

I had that problem last week — I’m not missing swim finals for anything.

    • NDC_IPCentral

Hooray!  A world record!  Hurray for Kenya (I’m a 6x visitor)

      • MilaXX

         awesome race!

      • http://twitter.com/ms_smartiepants Beth Mellone

Ooooh, I’d love some tips/ideas of places to visit and specific things to see. I’m supposed to be going next year! (It’s for work, but I’ll probably stay for a bit beyond the work part. It seems crazy not to do so).

        • NDC_IPCentral

Beth, I had family living in Nairobi from 2002-2008, and I visited each year from ’03 on until they returned to the States.  I’d be happy to give you some suggestions from my experiences.  Nairobi (heaps of stuff to see), Lamu on the coast, Amboseli, Galdessa, the Mara.  If you really want more information, contact Tom and Lorenzo and ask them to be intermediaries so that we can correspond directly.

          • http://twitter.com/ms_smartiepants Beth Mellone

Lovely! I will do exactly that. Thanks so much!

            • NDC_IPCentral

It’ll be my pleasure, and I’ll consult with bro & sis-in-law for their input, too.

When is Fashion’s Night Out? I want to see this store. Also, we should organize a TLo reader FNO group because my regular FNO crew has mostly moved away.

    • MilaXX

I want Sonjia’s hair (well a shade or 2 darker) so bad. Alas I am a bit too old for that.

      • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

Doooo iiiiit! If your job won’t fire you for it (or give you too much grief), why not?

        • MilaXX

I dunno I think 48 a bit too old for the crazy hair color.

          • CozyCat

No no no!  Some people can pull it off at 18 and some can’t.  Some can pull it off at 48 and some can’t.  If you can (and as Gabriella said, it won’t get you fired), go for it.

And Sonjia’s hair isn’t really that far out anyway.  It’s well within the range of funky that you can pull off in real life.

          • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

Psssh it’ll just cover up the premature greys. 48 seems to me to be a good age to start with crazy hair colors because c’mon, who’s gonna give you shit? I worry about it now at 24 because I’m just starting in the job market. /imawimp

      • http://twitter.com/urban_gypsy Tess Danesi

It looks fantastic on her.  But if it fades as fast as the hot pink streaks in my hair, maintenance is going to be a bitch on wheels.

        • MilaXX

yeah well my hair is red and I have to touch up roots & grey hair every 4 – 6 weeks anyway. If I wasn’t worried about looking like the old lady trying to be young, I’d go for it.

          • http://twitter.com/urban_gypsy Tess Danesi

I’m 54 and it doesn’t stop me from doing the hot pink. Maybe you can do it in a subtler way than a full head of blue. I’m also touching up those damn grey roots every 4-5 weeks.

          • CozyCat

OK.  Maybe blue isn’t your color.   And red hair at any age is wonderful!   :-)

Yeah, most of us don’t have the legs to pull off a mini skirt after a certain age.  But rules like “you can’t have long hair after a certain age” are silly.  But I think the cut and color of your hair is an area where you can still have a little fun–especially since unlike those young kids you know how to use it to accent your look, rather than just slapping something funky on your head.

            • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

There’s a woman who works with my mother at a bank, in a fairly high-up position who has fire-engine red hair.  Not even kinda like something occurring in nature.  And she looks fabulous that way, even though she’s past 50.

    • Call me Bee

Oooh that Christopher.  “is this a joke on me?”    It’s not about you, douche bag!

      • http://eclectictsunami.blogspot.in/ Cassie

        I know, right?

      • NDC_IPCentral

One wonders if this was vicious editing, but, boy, that was a tone-deaf remark.  Frankly, the pillorying of Andrea went on too long, and I bet it was egged on by the producers.

        • bitchybitchybitchy

You just know that the producers were squeeing in ecstacy over the possibilities of having the remaining designers diss Andrea….yechh.

      • lessax3

Poor little Christopher. Please validate me and tell me I’m a good person.

    • Stubenville

But you are a sissy Michael!

    • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

Is this the challenge they did on a plane on an earlier season? I guess not because they’re pretending it’s totally new.

      • Sweetbetty

I thought the same thing, it was during Laura Bennett’s season, but they took the designers to Paris then.

        • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

it’s too early to take the designers anywhere and they wouldn’t spring for that many tickets to paris.  plus, it’s the models who’ll be wearing the dresses.  maybe they’ll make them ride on the subway all day and then hit the runway!

      • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

No, that was a “jet set” challenge.  Which is a ludicrous term, but there’s a different level of glamour there.

    • NDC_IPCentral

      “EsTHEtic,” Mr. Kors!

“Way to be immature, Andrea.” Shut up, Gunnar.

      • bitchybitchybitchy

I’m sorry, even if Gunnar is putting on the bitchiness for the camera, he still needs to be bitchslapped.

    • Stubenville

I don’t recall ever seeing the owners of Mood. Have they ever had a cameo?

      • Susan Crawford

Wait – you mean Swatch isn’t the owner?

    • Call me Bee

FROKEMAN is the one to leave??!?!?  I has a sad!

        ME TOO

      • Kimbolina

        Why even watch anymore?!

    • MilaXX

where on earth did they get this oh so delicate bunch? Sheesh!

      • NDC_IPCentral

Is this a bit of an indictment of the show?  HHHMMMMMMMMmmmmmm.

Poor selection of competitors and a bad atmosphere that encourages defections.

      • Stubenville

Supposedly the pressure is intense and they get very little sleep, but still. Special snowflakes indeed.

        • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

I think the issue here is that the show isn’t taken terribly seriously in fashion circles.  The people who believe that this is going to be a miracle for their careers are those who are at least semi-delusional.  None of them come in expecting to be criticized and certainly not expecting an auf.  Statistically you are not likely to win, and even less likely to build a great career out of it.  Most stable people don’t go for something like this — they really do ask people to let a camera into everything they do for weeks on end, so that they can be critiqued and mocked (depending on the week) for their efforts for wildly inconsistent judges in return for a prize that isn’t all that helpful.  100K is a lot to most of us, but it’s taxed, as well as all the non-cash prizes, so you aren’t getting the package they claim, and even if you did 100K isn’t that much for a designer line.

People like Christian Siriano generally don’t do the show because they know that there’s simply no substitute for real fashion experience.  I think the only reason Siriano did it was because he was very young, so he didn’t have anything to lose.

          • Sweetbetty

Tim addressed this with Jon Stewart on his show citing Chloe Dao and her desire to not leave Houston but how being on the show did wonders for the business she already had and Christian, who has worked very hard to make a real name for himself.  He never mentioned the others who we’ve barely heard from since winning the show.

    • Stubenville

      Frokemon has a sad.

      • http://twitter.com/urban_gypsy Tess Danesi

I haz a sad too. He was such a fun, sweet little guy.

        • BuffaloBarbara

I was really hoping that the ads were misdirection.  Damn Lifetime, telling the truth for once.

On the other hand, his designs weren’t PR designs.  I think he probably realized that.

    • MrsKrause

      Bait and switch.

    • MilaXX

Nathan is that guy that every time I see him I’m like, “who’ that?’

      • http://eclectictsunami.blogspot.in/ Cassie

        LOL, me too.

      • Violina23

I had ZERO memory of him before this episode

    • dschubba

I’m gonna need a gif of shocked Tim slowly emerging from behind sad Kooan.

      • jilly_d

I would watch that gif….over and over.

    • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

Tim couldn’t understand a word Kooan was saying. You can just see the gears grinding into overtime.

    • Kimbolina

Raul comes back.  Does that mean Lantie comes back too?!  Jesus.

      • http://eclectictsunami.blogspot.in/ Cassie

        Oh please no.

      • Sweetbetty

Not that I want her back, but yeah, why don’t they replace both designers that left on their own?

    • baxterbaby

OH PLEASE DO NOT BRING ANYONE BA…. too late.

    • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

Oh hey look Fabio has Anya’s fabric from her runway show. 10 bucks says he makes something more impressive – ok ok I know no one will take that bet because c’mon.

    • Stubenville

So two leave and they bring back one?

      • Kimbolina

Just go with it.  If they bring back Lantie, I’ll scream.

        • Stubenville

          I can live with one.

    • dress_up_doll

And Raol just happens to be waiting in the hallway.

      • Call me Bee

Well–in all the seasons the aufed designers have to stay together and be available for this sort of thing.  And to come back and help the three finalists…so yeah–they’re just waiting around, probably on a different floor of the the Atlas.

      • Sweetbetty

And has already been to Mood.

    • NDC_IPCentral

      Yup, Eddie Munster dragged back.

Oooh, Ven dissing Raul big time.

    • Call me Bee

Oh great.  Raul is back.  More mediocracy.

    • bitchybitchybitchy

      Nooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not Frokemon, too!!!!

    • Stubenville

Raoul looks like they found him having a beer at a Christopher Street bar…

    • Kimbolina

Ven’s talented and I like his stuff but man is he getting on my nerves every time he opens his mouth.

      • bitchybitchybitchy

Ven needs to have some lovable quirk discovered or invented for him.

        • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

maybe he has a dead relative he could trot out.  on second thought, he looks more like he was made in a test tube.

      • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

I wonder if he’s really that bland or if he’s just giving them the least amount of reason to use his camera time — like when Penn Gilette said he used to sing “Hey Jude” to keep them from using footage of him when he did some reality show (because they wouldn’t want to pay to use the song).

        • Kimbolina

But it’s not even that he’s bland. What bugs me is the fact that every time he opens his mouth, he turns into such a condescending little snot.

    • Susan Crawford

Alex! Great summation of the PR tropes we love to discuss with Uncles Tom and Lorenzo. More, please!

I’m going to indulge in Veuve Clicquot this evening – not because of PR so much as because I’m determined to pull out of a truly hellish bout of depression, sadness and general crappiness. I am going to launch myself into joy, and it may be a bumpy ride, but it’s definitely time. Anyone want to join me? There’s room for all.

Meantime, I admire Hayden P. for her dedication to the environment, but what her fashion-judging creds are I cannot begin to understand. And the entire judging panel looks a bit whack-a-doo this week.

      • Call me Bee

Come and join me and Gorgeous Things.  We’ve already cracked a bottle of VC and are ready for another…

        • Susan Crawford

Here’s to us, Bee and Gorgeous. *clinking Champagne flutes*

      • MilaXX

She can manage to dress herself, but she’s got a show to pimp. I wonder if she’ll wear a Michael Kors dress or a Rachell Roy dress.

    • dschubba

Is Fabio using the same fabric that Anya stapled together for one of her finale pieces?

    • Excellence_and_Elegance

I’m not watching at the moment. Reading these comments, I don’t think I want to watch it later, either. What a sad, sad turd of a show this has become.

    • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

Alicia weirds me out because she looks like she could be the twin sister of this raver guy I briefly dated. Same speech patterns and everything. Weeeiiiird.

    • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

NOOOOO!!!!!!!  I will miss the crazy Frokemon… and now I’ll never find out what his evolved form is… :(

      • http://eclectictsunami.blogspot.in/ Cassie

I miss him already. :( I guess he had to go recharge himself with his cartoon family.

      • 3boysful

If you couldn’t tell, I have 3 boys, and we went thru all that years ago, but your comment just made me laugh!!

    • dschubba

Cheetah? Gunnar needs to review his animal flash cards.

      • Stubenville

        Perhaps he meant “cheater”?

    • Stubenville

No, Ven; you need to STFU.

    • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

I want Ven to make a dress that looks like a Venn diagram. Because.

      • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

That would be awesome.  But I don’t think he has enough humor for that.

    • Joe J

Good Lord, whoever did the psych evals for this season’s contestants needs six headknocks and a boot in the ass.  Too many featherweights and sociopaths.

      • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

My brother – a psychiatrist – knew someone who did the psych evals for a reality tv show, and the person quit once they realized the producers weren’t interested in people’s wellbeing so much as creating as much conflict and drama as possible. I know it’s a no-brainer for us, but it’s sad when you realize they only bring in psychiatrists to weed out those who may legitimately cause harm to themselves or others and not much more than that.

        • Joe J

That is thoroughly depressing, revolting, and yet not at all surprising.   Kind of like finding out what goes into Chicken McNuggets again.

    • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

“I have never been more excited” Shutup and stop lying, Tim.

      • NDC_IPCentral

I can’t get “like” to work, but I SO agree with your remark!

        • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

He didn’t even sound enthused. I loled.

          • Susan Crawford

God, I miss the REAL Tim, don’t you? He seems so subdued and scripted these days, but at  he occasionally manages to refrain from phony excitement when he doesn’t actually feel it.

            • Violina23

I think they have a set of designer suits backstage and threaten to cut it to pieces if he doesn’t express the proper amount of enthusiasm to impress the Bunim/Murray overlords…

    • bitchybitchybitchy

So sorry that I missed my chance to call in and chat with my favorite uncles! I was swilling white wine at the Shakespeare Theatre and chatting up random actors!

      • Eclectic Mayhem

That does sound like an evening well spent though!

        • bitchybitchybitchy

It was fun-the Shakespeare Theater Company in D.C. has these “meet the cast” receptions for member whenever a new production goes into rehearsals-it’s a nice little perk, and I’ve seen enough productions in recent years that I’m slowly getting to know some of the actors.

    • MilaXX

lord I really don’t get the fashion industry sometimes. That an ass? He’s talking like she’s got a Jlo or Kim Kardashian booty.

      • Stubenville

The ideal model for the fashion industry would be a 12 year old boy… with breasts.

        • MilaXX

I know, but sometime I still just shake my head at the ridiculousness of it all.

        • Susan Crawford

Yes, this is the industry that tells us a size 8 is a “plus size”, after all. Remember Oliviereierie from a season or so ago, who had to ask Tim to explain women’s breasts, and was horrified to confront hips? It boggles the mind.

    • Call me Bee

Oh my Lord.  “I can see her fish whistle from here!”

      • Stubenville

        Classy,huh?

      • Stubenville

Not quite Peach and the “good china.”

    • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

NEW COMPARISON FOR RAUL: Squiggy from Laverne and Shirley. GOOGLE IT. Don’t thank me, thank my mom.

      • http://twitter.com/urban_gypsy Tess Danesi

He is Squiggy! No google needed for me, I was there when.

        • Call me Bee

Yeah me too and you are so right.

    • dschubba

Go have a snack, Mr. Unsolicited Advice.

    • lessax3

Christopher, just shut up, she doesn’t want your ‘help’.

    • 3boysful

Why does Costello-Lite have to make everything about him?!  He may turn out to be worse than the real thing . . . .

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1344922354 Eric Scheirer Stott

Sorry, but I am NOT loving Tim’s combination of gingham check shirts with formal striped suits- the colors and patterns just look glaring and fussy to me. The combination is so strong it overpowers his pale coloring.

    • MilaXX

My money is on Nathan being the mental heath ask to eave guy. These folks were easy to spot from episode one, even though I kept hoping I was wrong.

    • JasmineAM

I am super pissed and disappointed by Frokemon. He was my favorite designer this season, and becoming a favorite of all PR. One of few designers that didn’t do black/greyscale/neutral clothes.

      • bitchybitchybitchy

I’m really sorry that Frokemon chose to leave-there was a joy about him that I will miss. I do think, though, that he’s right that there may be another route for him to achieve his fashion goals.

    • MilaXX

He can’t possibly not see how self righteous he sounds. Christopher calm down, that’s Tim’s job.

      • http://eclectictsunami.blogspot.in/ Cassie

Seriously. “Why doesn’t she want my constructive criticism?!?!” BECAUSE IT’S ENTIRELY UNSOLICITED.

He had a point, but it wasn’t his point to make. I can’t tell if he honestly thinks he’s being kind and helpful and just delusional to how it’s coming off or a totally insincere jackass.

        • Kimbolina

I feel like he really does mean well and wants to help but he just doesn’t know when to keep his mouth shut.

        • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

I really think he was trying to be helpful.  And I felt kind of bad for him with her reaction because he WAS trying to give her a way to course correct.  I get why she turned it down, I just think she maybe could have done it nicer.

        • Violina23

I think it’s pretty simple — He wants everyone to love him.  He gives himself FAR too much credit for influencing others (e.g. genuinely thinking his [tame] jabs at Andrea pushed her to leave), and obsesses constantly about what people think about him. I think he genuinely believed his advice for Buffi would be welcomed, and that he could “redeem” himself. But there was nothing to redeem himself from, and the overcompensation managed to piss off Buffi, who seems the most laid-back of all the people in the room.

I totally relate to this, I’ve always cared too much what people think, and the overcompensation almost always backfires. I hope Chris grows a thicker skin and gains some confidence.  Because that’s something I struggle with every day and wish for myself too!

I want to give Chris a hug :)

          • http://twitter.com/urban_gypsy Tess Danesi

He does have this little lost boy look in his eyes. I agree with your assessment, it’s very insightful.

Let’s all give him a nice group hug (distract him so I can steal that dress and jacket!).

    • Joe J

Man, I think I may actually be starting to prefer Gunnar to Christopher.  I’ve never seen someone so aggressively needy.

    • Stubenville

Why is Nathan dressed as a fortuneteller with a schmatta on his head?

      • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

i love it! they should have an all stars for designers like him where they dress themselves for the runway.  of course, austin scarlett would leave them in the dust, with jerrell trailing behind.

    • NDC_IPCentral

      Oh. mad skillz, Raul.

      Not.

      • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

Watch, they’ll love it. “That panel – SO INNOVATIVE.” I’m kidding, but if that happens, it’ll be a new low.

        • http://twitter.com/urban_gypsy Tess Danesi

Oh my god, please, no, not that! But on this show, it could happen.

    • Kimbolina

      Buffi=loser edit?

      • unbornfawn

        Totally.

    • Stubenville

I would be happy if I never saw or heard of Abby from Dance Moms ever again.

      • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

ever since you hung the moniker “odious swine” on her, i can’t see her without thinking of you.

    • Maria Rosenfire

Really? “The Week the Women Left”? If your husband is so fucking lame that he can’t manage without you for a week he probably doesn’t deserve you.

      • Kimbolina

The sexism of that show is ridiculous.

-Men can’t handle managing the home.
-Women are only useful when they’re home being a housewife.

        • http://twitter.com/drnels Nels P. Highberg

“The Week the Women Left.”  Otherwise known as “Bear Week in Provincetown.”

          • http://eclectictsunami.blogspot.in/ Cassie

I’ve vacationed in Provincetown during Bear Week twice…and it was stupendous.

      • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

Maybe it’s a version of the Lysistrata? HAHAHAHA like Lifetime could be that interesting.

      • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

My husband is sitting next to me ranting the whole time about that commercial.  “This is why people think women are crazy!”

    • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

Martin Scorsese looks just like my grandfather in these commercials. I wish he were in NYC with me and not Colombia.

      • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

Also – ha ha ha like Salma Hayek buys her own milk.

        • Call me Bee

I love the commentary on the lame commercials.  THe Hubs and I do the same thing.

    • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

ME HEIDI. YOU DESIGNERS. MAKE DRAMA DRESSES FOR ME.

    • Kyle Crawford

WHY ON EARTH IS HEIDI DRESSED IN FULL WILMA FLINTSTONE ??!?

      • Kyle Crawford

did they not have cable in Germany growing up?

      • Stubenville

All she’s missing is the bone in her hair. LOL.

        • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

it would have to be a gold bone.

          • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

No, that’s too subtle.  I’m gonna say… Swarovski crystal bone.

    • http://www.facebook.com/xerapis David Louis Quick

oh. em. freakin. gee. what is heidi wearing?!?!?!

    • Stubenville

Sonjia – nice but bland. Mall clothes.

      • CozyCat

Nothing like that in my local mall.  Sigh….

        • Sweetbetty

Mine neither.  That draping can’t be churned out in a third-world sweatshop.

    • Stubenville

      Alicia – Macy’s.

    • Stubenville

      Melissa – copy Donna Karen?

    • Stubenville

Buffi – you should taken the help.

    • Stubenville

      Fabio – yawn.

    • Stubenville

Gunnar – interesting. Still loathe you.

    • Stubenville

      Nathan – safe

    • Stubenville

Dimitry – will the judges like it?

    • http://twitter.com/drnels Nels P. Highberg

I think I’m officially over just about everyone on this show.

    • Stubenville

Ven – looks puckery and uncomfortable, but the judges will ove it.

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1344922354 Eric Scheirer Stott

Yet more diagonal pleating on the bodice.

    • http://www.facebook.com/xerapis David Louis Quick

Okay, Ven. Time to NOT do that fantail effect.

    • Stubenville

      Goodbye AGAIN Rauel

    • Stubenville

      Elaina – FTW.

    • http://eclectictsunami.blogspot.in/ Cassie

      Ven’s is just…ugly. I tried, but…no, that’s just fucking ugly.

    • Stubenville

      Christopher – safe

    • Stubenville

      WTF? Elaina should have won.

    • snich11

Buffi needs to go, Raul too…

      • MilaXX

Just a matter of who goes first, but I think it may be Buffy’s time.

    • MilaXX

My quick look impressions, which will likely change once I see stills.
       Sonjia nice!
      Dreadlock – fug!
      Melissa – interesting
Buffy- eh pink needs to be draped better
Fabio – boring dept store dress
      Gunnar – eh not bad
      Nathan – I like
      Dmitri – pretty,
Ven – It’s okay but I’m not sure I like it
Raul – The vest is a no
      Elena – I like the pant/jacket
Costello lite’s drape is too long

      • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

I thought Ven’s was too puckery.

        • Sweetbetty

That’s putting it mildly!  The neck/underarm-line looked like it was gathered with elastic to lie flat to the chest.  He was so focused on putting that zipper in on a curve (no mean task) he ignored all the other construction details.

          • Kimbolina

It looked like a kid trying to get dressed and all the fabric got stuck in the zipper.

        • Violina23

I agree about the puckering, but I liked the overall design. It was unique and I could see it fitting in for both office-wear & night-wear. Glad Ven got to experience NOT Being in the top three

          • Sweetbetty

A one-shouldered dress in the office?  Not in any office I’ve ever worked in.

      • NDC_IPCentral

Mila, I think you have digested the designs well.  I think Dimitry’s is lovely, though I’m not a fan of the big open back.  There are a few good dresses in there — SLEEVES — but Buffi and Raul are lookin’ mighty sorry.

      • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

HATED Elena’s — it’s just way too boxy.

    • dschubba

I’m surprised Alicia got through with that blouse. I doubt the proportion was meant to be that wonky.

      • http://eclectictsunami.blogspot.in/ Cassie

        That was really awful.

    • Call me Bee

That was a lotta schmatta!  Though I loved Dimitry’s dress.  And Sonja’s, as they are very similar.

      • NDC_IPCentral

Yes, the models kept trundling out.  And these models aren’t a very peppy bunch – they don’t seel those outfits.

Geeze. they’re melding over Christopher.  If he wins….

      • Sweetbetty

Agree; they should have been awarded a double win.

    • BuffaloBarbara

I wonder–they lost two and brought one back.  They still had a contracted number of shows.  Are they going to not send someone home today, or hold back that option for another episode?

      • dschubba

Maybe they’ll “treat” us to a 4.5 hour finale.

      • Stubenville

Or they had a double elimination in there for a future team challenge…

        • BuffaloBarbara

That makes sense–oops, no double elimination drama this year!

    • bohemiandrama

I have to admit that I have a little crush on Dmitri, plus I love his designs.  But, alas, when I find a man like him attractive, my gaydar just glitches and it doesn’t matter at the time.  I wish they would stop ignoring him!

      • Sweetbetty

Another Dimitry crusher here.  I love his designs too and think he may be being ignored so they can bring him out as the big winner in the end.  Or not.

        • bohemiandrama

I hope so. I just find him so attractive and interesting. He is so serious and intense. His designs are elegant and so opposite of my own personal flowy print “Uli” style, but still so appealing. Of course I love his accent and that he doesn’t seem to be putting on a show. We shall see. I actually also really like Elena’s portfolio work because it is so different.

    • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

For some reason I am very upset by 3D Charmin Bears. MUST EVERYTHING BE 3D?!

      • MilaXX

         I think they are gross

        • dschubba

As do I. Those bears have always rubbed me the wrong way.

I remember seeing one specific commercial with the bears shifting their asses  to position a tree trunk right between their buttcheeks and being shocked/saddened that somebody who went to art school ended up animating that.

          • Kimbolina

Imagine having to put that in your portfolio?

          • Pennymac

Makes me chuckle a little to visualize the Mad Men esque pitch for that commercial!

    • Stubenville

The Braying Tangerine’s “hair salon smock” comment is probably aimed at Buffi.

      • Call me Bee

        Agreed.

    • http://eclectictsunami.blogspot.in/ Cassie

I love Sonjia’s runway outfit. My girlcrush on her increases from week to week.

      • MilaXX

         Mine too!

    • dschubba

What’s happening under Sonjia’s model’s right boob, though? That dress has some unflattering wrinkles when it’s stationary.

      • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

I thought it was gonna end up being convertible but they never showed that.

      • Sweetbetty

That jumped out at me, too.  She needed to put a dart in there somewhere to take out that extra fullness.

    • MilaXX

OMG! Christopher’s story is as bad as Angela’s craziness

      • Stubenville

        Needs more fleurchons!  =)

    • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

      I loooooove Christopher’s.

    • MrsKrause

“That is crazy.  You hear that Michael Kors?  You can’t buy a wallet for $150 at your store.”

    • Stubenville

Buffi’s looks like something a little girl would make for her Barbie out of scraps.

      • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

I think once upon a time I *DID* make that for my Barbie out of scraps.

    • http://eclectictsunami.blogspot.in/ Cassie

Christopher’s jacket IS super sharp, but the dress looks kinda 90s to me.

      Buffi’s model looks amusingly humiliated.

      • lessax3

I thought the dress was a bit shiny/dressy for daytime, though I liked the jacket too.

    • dress_up_doll

Christopher’s look blows me away. Very chic, modern and sophisticated.

    • NDC_IPCentral

Nina takes Buffi to the woodshed.  I smell an auf.  However, Raul’s model looks clownish.  Oh, they are eviscerating Raul, and that crotch for the pants – we know the adjective that isn’t being spoken.

      • dschubba

Maybe they’re cutting him some slack for his shittily fit slacks? I haven’t really been paying attention, but I assume he’s working with Kooan’s old model?

        • 3boysful

It WAS clownish, but I think they were giving him ambition points for trying to construct so many pieces.

      • Sweetbetty

“Insane” has been replaced with “cuckoo”.

    • Kimbolina

Why is Hayden talking about “I could never wear this” etc.  Did I miss something?  Is she supposed to wear the winning look?  Why is it about her?!

      • bitchybitchybitchy

Having her as a guest judge is pointless. She has nothing to contribute.

        • http://twitter.com/urban_gypsy Tess Danesi

Someone must have been paid off to get her as a judge. She’s worth than useless which is probably why they had Rachel Roy as a second guest judge. They needed someone with a clue. Hayden is fixated on shoulders and even those comments were useless.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_2VBWWGHZEBKTVQMXE5SO5NCU2I Mich

omg, did nina just say buffi used the shape of the fabric to hide her lack of technical skills? i guess you can only get away with that if you’re  a beauty queen and sex tape star.

      • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

No, then you use your magnificent ability to pick out textiles to hide your lack of technical skills.

    • Stubenville

Dear Lord – Nina is feeding the Braying tangerine his lines. “Those pants are… cookoo”

    • MilaXX

I think top is Dmitry, Christopher, winner Christopher. can’t pick a 3rd

    • NDC_IPCentral

Are the judges, except for Nina and Rachel, condescending to Dimitry?

      • bitchybitchybitchy

        I.Want.Dmitri’s.Dress.

      • bitchybitchybitchy

Yes, they are condescending to my beloved Comrade Snape-and Heidi-it’s not sexy enough;I suppose she wanted a transparent patch so that she could show off the “good china”

        • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

If it doesn’t fit Heidi’s triumvirate it’s not her favorite.

          • NDC_IPCentral

As we used to say back in school days, “consider the source.”  Heidi’s dressing taste is, as my mother would have put it, “all in her mouth.”

        • 3boysful

           No, the “fish whistle!”

          • BradWatson

THANK YOU! I was starting to think I hadn’t heard that. This year’s “good china”.

        • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

“I always want something a bit more sexy.  Something that makes me go ‘That’s HOT!’”  That’s because you’re kinda a ho, Heidi.  That’s fine and all, do whatever makes you happy, but anything that is going to make you really happy, Nina will instantly despise.  So may you could be a bit more flexible?

          • granddelusion

            Yes! Totally a ho!

          • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

not every woman goes to work everyday hoping everyone screams ” wow she’s HOT” when she walks in.  unlike you, heidi dear.

            • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

Well, I go everywhere hoping for that, but somehow it just never materializes the way I expect…

    • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

I WANT ALL THE TOP DRESSES IN MY WARDROBE.

      • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

Yeah, I would have happily worn all of them.  And in fact, I have pieces similar in my wardrobe right now — and this is one of the few challenges that that comment isn’t a slam.  When you’re talking about something a woman can wear all day through 15 different things, you simply can’t be THAT innovative.

    • Joe J

Uch, Hayden.  They should have held out for Connie Britton, if they wanted someone from “Nashville”.

      • http://eclectictsunami.blogspot.in/ Cassie

I would have loved Connie Britton as a guest judge!

      • MilaXX

Nashville sounds like a dumbed down version of Country Strong, No?

        • Joe J

For me, it’s like trying to decide which is the prettier turd in the toilet bowl.

    • lessax3

May I just say how nice it is to see sleeves!

      • bitchybitchybitchy

        Sleeves….how novel!

    • MrsKrause

      Nina!  What???

    • Call me Bee

I like Christopher’s dress, but that long sash is killing me.  The jacket is a great design, but has a wonky zipper.  Dreaded execution problems.

      • 3boysful

LOVE it–in theory; would wear it in a heartbeat.  Fashion-forward?  Not atall.

    • dschubba

No, Your Highness. It’s the first time you’ve acknowledged Dimitri’s sewing skills.

      • CozyCat

Dimitri actually got a lot of love during the discussion.  Ven had better watch his back….

    • snich11

They all went for such a dark palette–black, charcoal grey. Blech

      • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

It’s hard to go day to night otherwise, unfortunately.

    • http://eclectictsunami.blogspot.in/ Cassie

“Dmitry can sew so well, and it’s the first time we’ve gotten to seen it.” No it’s not. It’s just the first time you’ve noticed.

    • dress_up_doll

Did Nina use the dreaded “c” word? Comfortable?

    • Maria Rosenfire

Oh, NOW you’re going to bitch about a designer making a print carry the whole design?! Bitches, please.

    • StelledelMare

If I hear Heidi talk about the “sex appeal” of an outfit one more time…

      • bitchybitchybitchy

She’s sounding very one note, isn’t she?

        • Kimbolina

And the thing is Heidi’s idea of sex appeal isn’t exactly versatile.  Her whole short, tight, shiny deal doesn’t exactly fly if you have to wear it to work.

          • Kimbolina

Or really anywhere besides cocktail parties/red carpets/whatever Heidi does.

          • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

Well, when your work experience is “Heidi Klum, VS model and TV personality” you can totally wear short, tight and shiny to work!

        • Stubenville

          She’s sounding like a cougar.

      • l_c_ann

Talking about Sex Appeal with a straight face when you’re wearing a leopardskin look wilma…..the sign of a
        a)cougar
        b) PR producer
        c) teutonic goddess
        d) humorless mother of four

        • Pennymac

          E. All of the above?

          • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1344922354 Eric Scheirer Stott

Heidi should marry Tim – just to play with our heads.

    • Stubenville

Despite everything, I think Buffi stays because she’s kookie. Bye Raoul.

    • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

Someone has probably already said this, but I LOVE that Rachel Roy is providing real, insightful feedback and critiques of the designers’ looks, rather than simply saying “I would/wouldn’t wear that.” Makes me wonder why Hayden is even there at all.

      • http://eclectictsunami.blogspot.in/ Cassie

Right? They already HAVE a good guest judge; what’s the point of having Hayden there?

        • l_c_ann

Did they have Hayden as star of some ABC show?  And wasn’t there an additional ABC tie-in in an earlier judging?  Are ABC and Lifetime owned by the same conglomerate?

      • MilaXX

I always like Rachel as a judge . Hayden is pimping her movie.

        • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

Aha, gotcha. But clearly they had some inkling that she’s a crappy judge, so they added RR too. :P

      • CozyCat

Yes.  Given the type of clothes she designs, she was actually a good judge for this challenge.  As long as they have one knowledgable judge, I have no problem with a starlett promoting her movie and “bringing in viewers.”  (assuming the same theory for putting them on magazine covers applies here as well.)

    • http://eclectictsunami.blogspot.in/ Cassie

Sonjia’s dress doesn’t exactly strike me as a red-carpet kinda dress, but I’m pleased that she won regardless.

      • alyce1213

It wasn’t supposed to be, but apparently the cheerleader thinks it is.

        • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

I assume it will be a low-key event, like a small premiere or a photocall.

      • Sweetbetty

I don’t think the challenge was to create a red carpet look, that was last week.

        • Sweetbetty

Oops, forgot H. P. asked to wear it on the R.C.

    • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

      TOOTIE WINS. TITSCREPANCY AND ALL.

    • dress_up_doll

      Yay, Sonijay won!

    • MilaXX

UGH! I was torn between Sonjia & Chrispher. Actually delete Sonjia and typed his name. I’m gad she won.  I think Buffy is out

      • CozyCat

It’s too bad this wasn’t the “lord and taylor” challenge.  Because any of the top three looks (as well as Gunnar and Ven’s looks) would sell incredibly well to EXACTLY the sort of woman described in the challenge.

    • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

NO NOT FABIOLOUS. He’s so cute.

    • dschubba

I like Sonjia, but this is her make-up Oscar for her candy dress. This week’s dress was very okay.

      • BuffaloBarbara

I think it’s more that she won because Hayden wanted to wear her dress, and it would look weird to say, “Dmitry, you won immunity for a challenge.  Sonjia… you lost, but your dress is hitting the red carpet.”  Which is the flaw with “I want to wear it” judging.

        • l_c_ann

Except we can expect the slit to have widened considerably.

          • BuffaloBarbara

             Oh, absolutely.  Without question.

    • http://twitter.com/urban_gypsy Tess Danesi

Can’t wait for Judging the Judges. I don’t like how any of them look this round. I think I’m defaulting to Nina.

    • Call me Bee

      Uh-oh  Buffi goes, I bet.

    • http://www.facebook.com/xerapis David Louis Quick

      Poor Dmitry. Always a bridesmaid.

    • Joe J

And with that, Sonjia is the first woman to win a challenge since Anya, fifteen challenges ago.

      • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

         WHAT?! Seriously? That’s insane.

        • Joe J

Seriously. “All-Stars” was Y-chromo all the way, and the first three challenges this season were Christopher, and Ven twice.

      • janetjb

        Wow.

    • http://eclectictsunami.blogspot.in/ Cassie

Aw. I can’t argue with Buffi leaving, but I really liked her. She was sweet and fun and surprisingly laid-back, and I’ll miss her livening things up.

    • Stubenville

Well this is going to be an exceptionally boring season – three of the most interesting people have gone since the last episode.

      • http://eclectictsunami.blogspot.in/ Cassie

God, we lost Frokemon AND Buffi. That’s grim.

      • CozyCat

Yes, boring in terms of personality. But it is heartening that the remaining designers are on the whole pretty good.

And I still have hope that either Ven or Dimitri will let lose on Gunner at some point….

        • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

           Dmitri, gotta be Dmitri.

        • Kimbolina

Definitely going to be Dmitri.  Ven is too high and mighty to talk to anyone.

        • Sweetbetty

LOL!  I’m envisioning Comrade Snape putting an evil spell on him then the huge Ven-bot putting a good ass-whupping on him just to make sure he understands.

    • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

“I said earlier it was going to a matter of taste… and it was…” Oooh, there’s a spark of the bitchy Tim we all love and miss.

      • Nelliebelle1197

I didn’t realize how sharp that comment was until I saw it in print!

      • http://eclectictsunami.blogspot.in/ Cassie

I love how he managed to be both reassuring and bitchy in a single sentence. That’s talent.

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_2VBWWGHZEBKTVQMXE5SO5NCU2I Mich

i think he meant a matter of personal taste for the judges versus buffi’s perceived lack of taste. although it was obvious they thought she didn’t have any. but i don’t think that’s what tim meant.

      • Sweetbetty

But Tim is one of the few people on earth who can say that without it sounding snarky.

    • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

Aw. Bye, Buffi. I for one will miss your crazy kookiness.

      • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

I know!  We lost Buffi and Frokemon in the same episode!  It will be so sad now — every time I watch, I’ll have to do a shot for each in their honor.

      • CozyCat

Buffi is this season’s Peach or Sweet Pea–someone who doesn’t have much design talent, but who you’d love to have as a friend.

    • http://twitter.com/rawrali Alison

I had actually been looking at a couple of old posts this past week, and wondered if we would ever get another Alex cartoon! Love it.

    • dschubba

I wouldn’t wear most of her stuff but, kookiness aside, Buffi seemed like a decent person.

    • MrsKrause

I’m hoping for some Nina Caps next week.

      • 3boysful

She gave them some gooood material to work with tonite, n’est-ce pas?

    • Stubenville

Looks like more shrieking and running around with scissors next week…

    • dress_up_doll

This was an okay epi, however, I can’t believe they kept Raul over Buffi.

      • Nelliebelle1197

I think they liked his potential and style. Buffi not so muchi.

        • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1344922354 Eric Scheirer Stott

Raul’s outfit was pretty bad but you could see he had some ideas and techniques. Buffi’s was just a shapeless drape.

      • DeTrop

I agree.  Buffi has such a great personality.  Raul not so much.  I may be alone on the branch, but I saw the concept in her design.  She should have taken Chris’ black chiffon and it would have raised the level of the ensemble.  Of course, it could have been executed better, but Raul’s outfit was a mess from top to bottom. I think Buffi showed more creativity than Raul.  I’ll miss Buffi.

    • rolacus2

Can we please have Rachel Roy replace Micael Kors? She is so thoughtful, sweet, smart, and constructive with her remarks unlike him. I would love for her to be a permanent judge, or at least on All Stars season 2

      • DeTrop

Maybe they just add her onto the panel.  I really like MK warts and all.

      • Stubenville

How about replacing Heidi with Folgers Crystals?

        • formerlyAnon

With ANYthing. I’m tired of making fun of her fashion instincts and while I might be wrong (sometimes you don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone, eh?) I don’t think she adds much to the show.

    • BuffaloBarbara

I think I’d have given the win to Christopher, for the jacket (the dress was one more black dress).  Dmitry’s was excellent and well tailored, but I couldn’t see it very well.  They seem to have said several times this season how hard it is to detail in black.

And also, I am SICK OF BLACK DRESSES.  There.  I said it.

      • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

I thought Christopher’s was great, but I don’t know how daytime that dress really was.  To me it read more cocktail with the jacket there as an attempt at being day appropriate.

        • BuffaloBarbara

I’ll have to look at the stills.  My mind read it as basically a long-ish plain black jersey dress, but how my mind reads clothes is not necessarily how they’re meant.

          • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

For me the issue is the top and the bottom:  the length hits at a point that reads more evening to me, and the way the neckline wraps around does the same.  I think if we saw it without the jacket, we wouldn’t be saying “That’s so versatile.” but “That’s a great cocktail dress.”

And yeah, the jacket was there to make it more daytime, but it fell a little flat on that level for me.  There was just a bit of a disconnect between the two.

        • NDC_IPCentral

We didn’t get to see the dress without the jacket covering the upper half.  That was true for all of the “several pieces” entries.  No shots of the model taking off a jacket (Elena) or the Melissa (?) hooded cardigan.  Show the individual pieces, models, producers and camera(wo)men!

          • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

That’s a decision for the designers, actually.  They’re the ones who give the models their instructions so they’d tell them to either remove the jacket at the end of the runway or to keep it on.  My guess is that none of them stand as well individually, so the designers told their models not to remove anything.

            • Sweetbetty

Sometimes the judges ask for a jacket to be removed, though, and last night they did have Christopher peel off that little leather (pleather?) jacket from his model.  It didn’t look like she could have easily removed it on the runway even if he had wanted her to.

      • granddelusion

I’m sick of black dresses, too, but Dimitry’s had wonderful details and was so beautifully made.

        • BuffaloBarbara

It really was.  I envy the fast sewers on this show.  They can do really neat things in the time allotted, and Dmitry really did some neat things here.  Unfortunately, if the camera hadn’t gone close up, I’m not sure I’d have noticed them.

Apropos of nothing, I want to say “stitchers,” because “sewer” in writing seems more of the pipe network underground that waste water flows through, but I guess it’s a proper word.  It took me forever to understand why poor Epperson was tagged “Easy Sewer,” though, until someone said the word out loud.

          • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

I think a lot of it is a question of honesty, confidence, and memory.  The better you remember the patterns, the faster you can work.  The more honest you are with yourself, the better your choices will be.  And once you’ve designed a piece, you don’t have time to second guess yourself and hesitate over choices that were already made.

          • unbornfawn

When I was working in costume shops the people who did the sewing were called “stitchers” we didn’t use the term “sewers.”  Go ahead and use the term.

          • Sweetbetty

Regarding Dimitry’s exquisite details; it’s a shame when the designers choose to do such work on dark fabrics where they don’t show up.  He could have used a lighter grey or even a beige if he wanted to stay in the neutrals and those marvelous tucks would have been showcased so much better.  And I’ve used “sewist” in place of “sewer” for many years just for your reason .

    • Joe J

If we can get Rachel Roy and Diane Von Furstenberg as replacements for Michael and Heidi, this season would be instantly saved.

      • alyce1213

But who would wear tight short and shiny?

        • Stubenville

We”ll buy Kors bicycle shorts.  [eyeroll]

          • formerlyAnon

If there are sparkly things on them, my contribution is hereby committed.

(You KNOW there are photo albums somewhere of Young, Young Kors in bike shorts,or at least those super short running shorts that were big in the 70s)

          • Lilithcat

            Ewwwwww!

    • BuffaloBarbara

On the low scores, I’m sorry to lose Buffi the Taste Slayer, who seemed nice and was a great presence on the show, but I can’t think of a more deserving auf.  That was just awful.  Neither better execution nor a different color of chiffon would have helped, because the idea was bad.  I like her weird ’80s approach–I’m apparently the only person in the world who remembers those nutty colors fondly–but this was just So Wrong.

Fabio’s wasn’t as bad as they made it out to be.  I expect they put him second to the last instead of Raul in order to give him the critique and tell him to apply his personal style and compliment him on the ropes around his neck.  I can’t say I’m enthralled with his personal style, but it would have been more interesting than the crazy-print shift dress.

Raul’s should have been second from the bottom.  We’re in insane crotch territory.  (I believe the Duchess actually came up with “Cuckoo.”)  But I kind of liked the wacky long jacket.  Its execution wasn’t top notch, but still.  Kind of cool.

      • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

Yeah, I will miss her but I can’t say she didn’t deserve it.  I kept hoping Raul would go again, because I haven’t seen any reason for him to stay either.  Tonight’s work, however, Buffi was clearly the worst.

      • Sweetbetty

“I expect they put him second to the last instead of Raul in order to
give him the critique and tell him to apply his personal style and
compliment him on the ropes around his neck.”

Why were they so enthralled with the robes around his neck?  If he had put them around his model’s neck do you think they would have scored him higher?  I just don’t get the love for them.

        • BuffaloBarbara

Yeah, I don’t get it, either, but judging by their comments, it’s apparently a thing for them.

    • Laylalola

Oh man, I had just been looking at the portfolios today and couldn’t decide between Frokeman and Melissa. So sad to see him go — but I can understand why. From his portfolio, he doesn’t do women-on-the-go unwrinkled styles that need to fit in at work. And he definitely hated the challenge and dress that walked down the runway last week. And the way this show goes there probably really would never be a challenge where they would just let the Frokeman style shine without penalizing it.

      • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

The avant-garde challenge, or the UM challenge, which he wasn’t slammed for at all.

        • dharmabum8

You know, though, Frokemon is much more a Bravo-PR type than a Lifetime-PR type. Too many make a pretty dress challenges now, not enough design something that represents your astrological sign type challenges.

          • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

I agree.  I think the flaw is that BM doesn’t understand what the show was and how fashion operates.  I think they want to replicate the success Siriano had, and so they’ve tried to go more RTW with their designers.  But that’s never been what really thrills people, in TV or in fashion.  And the worse their winners do, the more they shift to the middle America ground.

            • 1_other

I’m hard pressed to think of a winner that hasn’t been more to the RTW. Jay, Chloe, Jeffery?

            • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

Chloe I will agree with, but Jeffery and Jay were both more unique — their work was far more interesting.  I suppose I misspoke when I said RTW — I should have said bland mall clothes.

      • Sweetbetty

Yes, many commentators have defended his designs by saying how spot-on they are for Japanese street style.  Well, that’s a very narrow focus and is not going to take you far in the fashion industry as a whole and certainly not on a show as mainstream as Project Runway.

    • StelledelMare

In regards to next week’s challenge, I seriously do not understand how some of them can keep complaining about working with other people. Do they not realize that basically all designers work with teams of people?

    • http://www.facebook.com/xerapis David Louis Quick

So disappointed in teh Frokemon. =smh=

      • Lisa

Me too, him and Andrea.  For once, Little Gunnar Bitchpants was spot on – this is something that could turn into a great opportunity that they won’t get otherwise, and they tossed it away.  Besides, I get how tough the competition must be, I really do.  But it’s not like they were kidnapped in a van with a gun to their heads and forced to compete.  In Frokemon’s case, I also think it was a case of “Wahh waaah waaah, I can’t design the kind of stuff *I* like”.  No, that’s right – you can’t.  And you knew this if you ever watched this show for two seconds.  You can bring in your own aesthetic as much as you can, but you will have to make a version of your own garments out of candy, out of car parts, or not at all if that’s what the challenge is about.  Deal with it.  I have no sympathy for either Andrea or Frokemon.  At least poor Buffi went down swinging.

    • kikisayshi

I love this! As spot-on as it is, I just can’t stop watching!

    • Pennymac

Could some one tell me if I’m being overly optimistic or if I am developing “PR specific taste issues syndrome”; but it seemed to me that there was actual designing and decent entries this episode. Am I hallucinating, or did actual that actually happen? The Duchess actually complimented designers ability to craft garments and I agree? What the hell?

      • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

No, I was fairly impressed by this week’s entries.  Not a lot of innovation, but this challenge wasn’t about being innovative.

      • 3boysful

No, I totally agree, you beat me to saying it.  For all the black, at least things did look designed and sewed–with sleeves!– rather than stapled origami short strapless dresses (or colorful, no-sew caftans!).

    • dharmabum8

What’s the difference between this woman on the go challenge and design a line of professional women’s wear, conceptually? Yawn. That said, I didn’t hate the top 3 this week, which is an improvement anyway.

      • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

This was to be a “day to evening” look and only one.  Next week is a line and the pieces don’t have to do double duty.

    • Lisa

OMG, I’m thrilled that we’re having drinks in my neighborhood tonight!  Then again – watch out for ringworm!

Thank you for the hot picture of Comrade Snape relaxing and sketching.  Mama likes.

As much as I’m tired of Costello-lite’s fluttery dramatics, I do think he should have won.  But then again, I was thrilled for Sanjia – her dress really was gorgeous!

So sad that Buffi’s gone!  Look, she wasn’t going to go much further, I know, but I loved her a bunch – not her designs, but she was a cool person.

    • granddelusion

Apropos of nothing, I miss the real Tim Gunn.

      • holdmewhileimnaked

the sad truth is that even if he didnt choose to be what he is now he allowed himself to be made into it.

      • annaplurabelle

Maybe this is the real Tim Gunn. But I know what you mean. I miss that other guy, too.

He left us in Season 7, I believe.  I miss him too.

      • formerlyAnon

I decided last season that I’ll just hope that he is being VERY well-compensated and that he’s using the money for something that is truly meaningful to him.

      • Tatiana Luján

I prefer Joanna Coles than this Tim Gunn.

    • granddelusion

Dimitry’s on the bottom?! Are you effing kidding me?

      • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

No, he wasn’t on the bottom — they liked his dress, just not as much.  The bottom were Fabio, Buffi, and Raul.

      • Laylalola

He was in the top three. But I noticed Heidi just gave him a curt “You’re in” and didn’t throw him any kind of standard “good job!” or “we loved your piece too!” phrase to the top three.

    • kjthorp

I missed you Alex! And TLo– a lemon drop isn’t the same without you two to share it with.
      XOXO

    • Lisa_Cop

I think TLo are going to have to take back that remark about Hayden. Of course, though, she said it to the winning designer.

    • http://www.facebook.com/tiyuju Yuju Ti

Alex must has a crystal ball.

    • bluefish

How annoying was Heidi Klum tonight with her insistence on the sexy and the hot?  Shut up, woman!  She can be so ridiculous and tacky.  I was happy to see Nina, Michael, and Rachel basically hose her off by commenting on the simple elegance of Dmitri’s dress.

The cartoon sketch is hilarious — and oh so true.

    • MissAnnieRN

Snooze fest!!! Can no one make a day to evening look that isn’t black/grey dress/jacket?? This is so boring.

    • MissAnnieRN

A cigarette pant, a tuxedo pant, a fab pair of riding pants. Something!

    • annaplurabelle

I think Andrea ran away in the night because she didn’t want to stay at the Atlas until the end of taping, like the other eliminated designers. What do the “aufed” do all day anyway? No matter, she really made herself look bad by sneaking off like that.

    • Brooke Gasdaska

Hahaha did anyone notice the look Michael gave Heidi when she mentioned (since we didn’t all know already) that when she looks at a dress, she prefers it to have sex appeal? That was priceless!

    • Meelah

Heidi’s insights were horrible.  Christopher’s dress wasn’t sexy.  It was a draped turtle neck under a leather jacket and if I were a judge I would have asked to see what was under it.  I’m glad Buffi is finally gone I saw no potential in her “designs”.  Just looked like she threw crap together or made basic American Apparel type items in bright colors.  If you can’t sew a dress hem you shouldn’t be on Project Runway.  Doesn’t mean you can’t be a designer just means that you’ll never make it on the show.

I don’t think Koonan was ready for all of the negativity.  I feel a bit bad when the judges start laughing at the designs.  I will admit Michael Kors descriptions usually get a kackle out of me; but it’s one thing for viewers at home to chuckle another thing to laugh in someones face about something they’ve spent their sweat and tears working on.  I’ve wondered what kind of toll that takes on the other designers.

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=751285857 Sally Brownson

Not only that, I think he started to realize that it wouldn’t be good for his career to give them any more material with which to paint him as a nut. I imagine he could’ve thought that as fashion-industry people, the judges would be more aware of Tokyo style and at least recognize it as legitimate; actually, when I’d initially looked at the portfolios before the show aired, that was what I assumed would happen. I’m pretty annoyed with the judges, actually. Way to suppress creativity in favor of department store clothes.

      • Laylalola

Heidi’s comments were ridiculous — apparently the designers should just design sexy head-turning showstoppers meant for a celebrity every time, regardless of what the challenge is. This one was supposed to be something that an on-the-go woman could wear in multiple settings the same day without it getting wrinkled.

    • DeTrop

I just want to say that Hayden Panettiere acted very childishly.  Her laughing as the designers were being critiqued was so immature.  Glad that Nina’s cool overrode HP’s dumb comments.  BTW, how does an outfit picked for the Red Carpet work as  day to evening?  Just asking.

I LOVE ALEX! I’m so glad he’s back!

As for last night’s episode….I had to turn it off halfway through. All the crying, angst and melodrama reminded me of living in a girls dorm, when all the menstrual cycles sync up.

    • sdtripper

I can’t wait to see Hayden P on the red carpet in Sonjiya’s dress.  Presumably that would be the red carpet at some boring corporate event.

Also, although I completely totally agree with Buffi’s aufing, I fear it is Good-bye to Color now that both she and Kooan are gone.  Was there any other color on the runway last night besides black, gray, brown, white or drab?  Pray that one of the remaining challenges is a Yellow Challenge or a Teal Challenge.  (We know from past experience that a Green Challenge isn’t about the color of the clothes.)

Can’t wait for Judging the Judges.  I think Heidi stepped it up this week.

I really dislike how Andrea left.  First of all, defending herself on the runway – she didn’t exactly lie but her version of what she had said was far from the real thing.  But the main thing is stealing away in the night without leaving a note or anything.  It’s immature and somewhat cowardly.  Kooan’s exit at least was reasoned out and probably a good thing.  He seemed to have undergone a personality transformation.

Still, you have to wonder if some of these designers have ever actually watched the show.

    • SewingSiren

It was funny that the criticized Snape for using black when all three of the top dresses were black or very dark grey.
The three losers were prints or brights, with the brightest going home.
I more or less agreed with the win. Christopher and Sonjia’s dresses were very similar weren’t they? They finally put Dmitry in the top, for his least outstanding dress so far.
I thought Raul should have been auf’ed . I disliked Buffi’s but it was definitely  consistent with her point of view. Raul’s was just a mess. Fabio’s was just okay.

    • Kimbolina

      Posted in the wrong spot.

    • aristida_girl

I love the cartoon! Long live Alex, and may he give us more TLo witticisms soon :)
