Robert Pattinson in Gucci

Posted on August 14, 2012

Robert Pattinson has stopped crying and cutting himself long enough to get dressed and shuffle his way back out into the spotlight. Let’s all take a moment and salute his bravery and fortitude.

Okay, moment’s up.

Robert Pattinson attends the ‘Cosmopolis’ premiere in New York City in a Gucci suit.

That opening was perfect for a segue into ripping him to shreds, but we actually like the look here. It’s a perfect summer suit and it fits him perfectly. We think pairing it with a darker shirt and a black tie was not the best of ideas, but that’s a matter of taste. To us, a suit like this screams for a crisp white shirt and brightly colored tie. What makes this look personally endearing to us is the white hair clinging to his lapel, we don’t know what kind of creature that came from, but as stylish dudes who own a white cat, we sympathize, brother.

But Hollywood Boys, we have to tell you: you are put on notice. We will denounce your neckbeards until you crumble to the floor, weeping and pleading with us to stop. We will DESTROY your neckbeards as if we were Victoria Grayson and your neckbeard is a servant with an attitude problem.

I do not get his appeal.  He does look good in the suit, from a style standpoint, and of course the neckbeard is terrible.  But that’s about all I can work up over him.

    • SignLadyB

Actually, this is one of the first times I’ve found him attractive since he was Cedric. His eyes aren’t so slitted as they usually are and the blue shirt brings out the beautiful blue of his eyes (who knew?) Beyond that, I tend to definitely agree re neck beards. The suit doesn’t bother me one way or another.

      • Jessi03

Only thought he was cute as Cedric, and he was breathtaking in that.  Ever since, meh.

        • Sobaika

          Because he bathed as Cedric.

          • Jessi03

             Bwahahahahaha!  One million likes!

          • Rand Ortega

             HAHAHAHAHA! GOLD (pun intended)!

          • Toto Maya

Seriously, he’s just so slimy and greasy I can’t stand it. I want to gag. I had a crush on him as Cedric but that is long gone.

    • I didn’t get his appeal at all until I saw him eating Ben & Jerry’s with Jon Stewart on The Daily Show. Now… well, now I want Ben & Jerry’s. But Robert seems nice.

      • AlwaysCoco

I Know! Now I have a hankering for some “Chubby Hubby”:)

      • RebeccaKW

That would have been my exact reaction.  Actually…I would like some, just from discussing it.

      • Anathema_Device

I cracked up when he admitted to not having a publicist! What the WHAT?!

        • formerlyAnon

           Does explain some things, though.

      • MK03

I know! I was surprised by his personability. Don’t know why; maybe because he always looks pissed off at premieres and such.

    • Alisa Rivera

He gives great interviews. If all I had to judge him on was Twilight and red carpet appearances, I’d hate him. But he’s very funny and self-deprecating, which gets him a big thumbs up from me.

      • RebeccaKW

Funny and self-deprecating-I can get behind that.  I know personality can make you more attractive, I just don’t know that he would work for me in regards to him.

        • CatherineRhodes

I didn’t think he was very interesting on the Daily Show. Jon Stewart was doing all the heavy lifting during the interview. What exactly does a publicist do, anyway?

          • Alisa Rivera

I agree TDS interview wasn’t all that great. The best one I’ve seen with him is when he was on Leno and read emails he gets from his father while his parents were in the audience. It was endearing.

          • RebeccaKW

Jon Stewart is great.  I’d like to see some photos of him.  At least I KNOW he has a good personality.

    • margaret meyers

I don’t get him either, but that is one great suit, and perfectly tailoreed.

    • Anathema_Device

I think I like him b/c he doesn’t understand all the fuss either.

    • I don’t get it either. I remember being super-annoyed that they’d hired him for Cedric (so not pretty enough) and nothing since has changed my mind in the slightest. If anything, he gets less attractive with each passing year.

Or is it just dirtier with each passing year?

I will say this for the look: he looks clean (a change); as many before me have noted, the suit fits very well and the hem is perfectly done, and he doesn’t look quite as stoned as usual. Not that I mind the stoned part, because if I had his cash, I’d be high too, more often than not, but is it too much for him to pay an assistant to follow him around with some Visine? Or even some Robert Downey Jr.-esque shades?

Toothpicks for his eyelids? Something? Oh well. Give it a year or two and we’ll be hearing from him about as often as we hear from Hayden Christensen these days.

      • RebeccaKW

My hope is that he and Kristen Stewart are so typecast in these twilight roles that they don’t get any new roles.  I mean, I know they’ve both been in other things, but nothing that’s won them any acclaim.  Nor have those movies really done well.  Not that I begrudge them movies or success-just that I don’t want to see them in magazines anymore.

      • No kidding, I saw him as Diggory and was like “you’re kidding,” because Cedric should have been a young Sir Laurence Olivier.  I mean, in what world is Krum hotter than Diggory?  Anywho, I feel for the guy and am glad he was able to laugh at the ever-expanding ridiculousness of his life on the Daily Show.  And thank goodness he looks relatively clean.  Maybe his former grunginess was his way of trying to show solidarity to KStew?  Cuz she looks like she doesn’t shower all that frequently either.

    • pookiesmom

I kind of hated him, and then I saw this: After spending an embarrassing amount of time clicking through that tumblr, I kind of adore him now. In spite of myself. He’s got this really weird, charming sense of humor. I don’t really find him attractive, and he looks high/dirty ALL OF THE TIME, but he doesn’t seem to be a douche. Which is surprising and delightful.

  • His suit looks like shades of mourning…black for the deepest darkest part of his soul that is missing Kristen (blech), the dark blue for how he’s emerging out of the darkness and the lighter blue for his “back to normal” (he doesn’t seem to be a chipper sort of dude, you know?)

That being said, I like it.  It fits him well, I like that he went off the beaten path with the ensemble.

  • rockwithyourleft

The Daily Show (he guest starred) was on point last night, it was fantastic.

    • Pants_are_a_must

I actually thought they were coasting on the fact no one was going to watch anything but the Pattinson interview last night. The show was much more on point last week.

  • estella_nyc

    Eat your heart out, kstew.

  • j_anson

    Eh, god, ew. As always.

  • Victoria! Forget Patto – bring back Revenge already!

  • KQ67

The third and fifth picture (are they the same one from different vantages?) are super awkward looking but he looks really good otherwise (and other than the filthy neckbeard, a plague upon modern men).

  • While you’re at it – can you just destroy all the beards.  HATE them, even on Mr. Pitt.  Go Rob – she wasn’t worth it!

    • Never!  Beards, tight ones, are amazing.  Esp against the skin.

  • hear, hear.  No beards!

  • cakeordeath13

As a dedicated follower of TLo for many years, I am disappointed to find self-harm mentioned in such an offhand, joking fashion. It is a serious problem faced by many individuals, and perpetuating a stereotype of emo-kid self-pitying self-absorption is harmful. I am not trying to be a buzzkill, and I love the snark and sass of this blog. This particular joke gave me a rather unpleasant jolt, and as someone who has had many loved ones affected by this issue, I felt compelled to say something.

    • Kristin McNamara

I had the exact same reaction. (I was wondering if I’d be the only one…) I usually love all the snark that gets thrown around on this site, but this particular “joke” category has always upset me. Thank you for saying what you did, and much more eloquently than I ever could.

    •  Who hasn’t been affected by an issue as common as this? I’ve been affected by this issue for years, and I still thought it was humourous. An offhand, hypothetical joke like that is not meant to offend, and only offends the most sensitive people.

      • Cali Sherwood

Unfortunately because you find it humorous doesn’t meant that the rest of those affected by the same issue should feel the same, or be judged for the sensitivity you lack.

    • ASK26

?  does anyone else see the irony of your moniker with your post?  :o|

  • JAYSUS! *vowel sounds* The man can rock a suit.

  • TheOriginalLulu

I’ll never get his appeal, but this may be the first time I actually think he looks good. He looks showered and groomed and he doesn’t look stoned, for a change. The hair is a little lopsided and sure he could have trimmed up that neck scruff, but overall he looks pretty good to me.

  • Pants_are_a_must

Maybe that hair came from Cronenberg, rubbing himself against Pattinson for good luck.

  • Why do all the Twilight kids (except the werewolf one) look like they’re stoned out of their minds on every red carpet?

    • Vickiefantastico

      Umm, cause they are?

      • if i had their money i would be too.  how did jacob miss the magic bus?

    • MK03

‘Cuz you’d have to be to deal with those crazy fans?

    • Yes I wonder why. I can not imagine any reason why that would be the case 🙂

  • formerlyAnon

Now you’ve got me fixating on the neckbeard.  Your powers over minions are mighty.

    • See also: pant hems. First thing I notice on a guy now.

      •  Me too!

      • alyce1213

Me too – his are (is?) perfect.

      • Pennymac

        Me too, on both accounts.

See also: irrational hate of nude shoes.

  • 3boysful

Whatever the deal is with KStew, he’s clearly been taking lessons from her in How To Never Crack a Smile Even Though I Am A Big Deal & Make Boatloads of Moolah.

  • From now on, any male star who can’t bother to take the time to groom should only be featured on this site from the neck down. The suit looks great on him, and his hair looks good too, but that beard. Seriously. Come ON, boys.

    • can we photoshop a brown paper bag over their heads, TLo?

  • The suit is OK, but he is repulsive.

  • kimmeister

Everything looks impeccable except for the stupid beard.  His hair (that’s on top of his head) even looks good!

  • nannypoo

Isn’t there another of those Twilight movies coming out? Here’s my theory: The vampire movies, having been overshadowed by The Hunger Games, need a publicity boost. What better way to get everyone’s attention than to have the two stars break up.  Ooh, everyone will be eager to see the chemistry between them! Maybe they can even get back together as a result of their dramatic love scenes!! Jennifer Lawrence will have to expose her boobs at a luncheon to get an equal amount of publicity for the next Hunger Games movie (oh, wait, she did that yesterday).

    • formerlyAnon

       Excellent theory!

Though I figure it’s way less interesting: She’s 22, he’s 26. (-ish) They’ve been dating according to some article I read, since he was 22 & she was 18.  Pretty much explains everything. A break up, with or without subsequent reconciliation(s) and breakup(s) was inevitable. The rest is just details.

Too bad they have to suffer the lack of privacy that goes with success in their field.

  • Alyson Epstein

Forget the neck beard.  His whole facial hair thing has got to go!

    • and while we’re at it,  can we get rid of the face too?  oops.

  • mjude

i think he looks great & i get the appeal.  but no no no on the neckbeard.

  • he obviously has not got the memo yet on the neck beard.  let’s check him tomorrow, then schedule the execution.

  • Anathema_Device

I think he looks great. A bit of the neck beard, though, eh?

For some reason, I find him totally endearing. I’ve really enjoyed the handful interviews I’ve seen or read of his.

  • TieDye64

Seriously loving the suit and shoes. Gorgeous. But, I will forever loathe the neckbeard. Ick.

  • Jangle57

I never quite got his appeal back in his Cedric days and only to some degree with the Twilight franchise.  However, I happened to catch him on The Daily Show last night and he seemed quite funny and personable.  I thought the blue suit looked good on him and thought the darker blue shirt with the lighter blue suit was very complimentary.  All in all, made him much more attractive to me than before.

    • Yeah, same. He’s doing his own “jilted” publicity tour I see.

  • alyce1213

I’m not the biggest fan, but other than the neck I think he looks great. Love what his wearing.

  • Trisha26

He looks great, if a little sad, and the neck beard – OMG, it’s becoming “a thing.” I noticed the white thread/hair immediately – his handler doesn’t carry a de-linter?

    • MilaXX

He said he needs to hire a publicist, maybe he needs new handlers as well.

  • ccm800

I LOVE that leaning in pose where you KNOW some pap said “LOOK AT THE CAMERA ROBERT” Funny fellow this RP

  • DaveUWSNYC

I had a neckbeard as part of my first mid-life crisis and I can say that they ITCH like a bitch. They’ll get over it. Nice hair, though.

  • He’s freaking GORGEOuS!

  • jjfg

The suit is nice – actually the photo would be fine if you shopped someone else’s head on to the suit.  I totally do NOT get the appeal.

  • JasmineAM

Good lord lots of sensitive people on this blog today. Lighten up, please!

  • Rand Ortega

Too sparkly. I don’t get the allure at all. If you manage to look like crap in a Gucci suit, you’re not in the entertainment business.

  • MilaXX

I hate to admit it, but he looks pretty good. This is the first time his clothes actually looked expensive to me. If only he would shave that scraggly mess off his face.

    •  The clothes look expensive, AND the don’t look like he slept in them the night before.

  • Scoobydrew

Ah, pet hair on a man’s clothes – my favorite accessory, and I’m sure it has nothing to do with the fact that I have JRT fur everywhere.

  • Lucy145

Have the hipsters tired of the handlebar mustaches and moved on to ironic neck beards?

  • Seriously, I love a nice beard, but growing out your scruff doesn’t mean you’re exempt from trimming and grooming, menfolk. Tidy that shit up. But I like the suit and the color combo. The rest of this is working for me.

    •  Exhibit A of a nice beard: Joe Manganiello. ( And Exhibits B, C, D…)

  • The neckbeard sucks, and that hair is hilarious.  Maybe he’s rebounding from the trampire with an albino?

  • LinXGUA

He looks very, very good. Said that, i think:
-Those colors say “party around the fireplace, on a chilly night of november” to me, but i understand why he used them. They look great on him.
-There was something bugging me, but it wasn’t the neckbeard (well, maybe a little). It’s the size of his head. Maybe it’s the angle of the photo. Maybe he has narrow shoulders (see photo n.2). If that’s the case, he is condemned to wear big jackets or make that “shoulder pose” whenever he can  -which explains the jaw: I tried doing the shoulder pose (for science) and instantly, my jaw stood out-.

  • redgauntlet

What long, narrow feet he has.

  • H3ff

Why is he creepily lurching forward? Yikes.

  • YourBaloneyDontGotNoSecondName

am i the only sane person who does not believe for one second that the whole robsten breakup thing was not carefully orchestrated, and that they aren’t great friends?  i still think that jennifer and angelina skype each other daily to plot how to troll people magazine over and over.  plus, i miss ted casablanca.

    • Susan Crawford

Wait just a minute, here. Next you’ll be telling me that TomKat’s whole marriage and divorce was somehow. . . planned! Is there NOTHING left to believe in? Not even the Kardashians? I’m, like, totally crushed.

And I miss Ted, too. Oh, so much.

  • butterflysunita

Agree about the neckbeard.  I saw the photo and just thought “douche”.  I tried to examine the suit and I do like the suit, but the douchiness of the neckbeard overwhelms it.

  • I give him a break on the neckbeard.  He’s been hiding out from Kirsten Stewart (Kristin? – who cares), doing fist pumps waiting for an appropriate time to “come out” and start doing the pole dancing and blessing God every time that he (maybe) got out of that relationship.

  • guest2visits

This all looks good to me (minus the cat hair); even his face is more interesting or mature. That sounds too trite after recent events,
but it seems to be true. Or maybe he just looks particularly good in a beard. I wish him good luck with the new movie, looks like one
    I’ll go see.

  • Rick Aiello

Does this guy EVER smile?  Geez.

  • Lisa_Cop

Don’t know much about him (is he married to Kristen Stewart?) but think he looks terrific.

  • CatherineRhodes

He was wearing a similar color scheme on Jon Stewart last night, so this must be his new thing. He was also boring as hell.

I do not find him attractive one single tiny bit. I’ll be on the other guy’s team (whoever that is).

  • Susan Crawford

“Neckbeards”! You guys are the BEST!

I love that Mr. Pattinson is giving us his best Sadder-But-Wiser face. It’s been a cruel, cruel summer for the boy, but still he soldiers on. (And personally, I’m hoping that white hair is from Dame Helen Mirren, who dropped by to explain that life has MUCH to offer if one chooses to pursue one’s options.)

  • quiltrx

I have decided his facial fungus MUST go.  He has some pretty great hair, and he’s young…why age yourself with that mess on your face?  (Cedric was gorge, RPatz!)

And please tell me everyone has seen Will Ferrell on Conan about the breakup.  If not, go to YouTube right now!

  • Lisa

Yeah, he needs to lose the neck beard, but other than that, he looks flawless.  Plus, I have to give him and Jon Stewart props – together, they had a couple of great moments on The Daily Show last night.

  • snarkykitten

Dear male celebs: when the word “neckbeard” is a not so affectionate term for misogynistic asshole who probably still lives with his mother, it’s not a good look to emulate.

  • julnyes

he looks clean for a change.

  • elemspbee

aw Victoria Grayson. oh how we miss Revenge. Wonder how it’s going at the Hamptons this summer?

  • i’d be his kitty cat.

  • RzYoung

He looks amazing here. I love the colour of that suit, it’s so subtle and expensive looking. I’d love it if he were snuggling with some sort of fluffy white stuffed toy before he stepped out of the car!

  • Amy Ennis

As for the neckbeards, Gunner Deathrage’s has to be the worst offensive one I have EVER seen.

  • PeggyOC

From the neck down, that’s the best he’s ever looked.  From the neck up, same ‘ol greasy unkempt mess.

  • kaycem

lmao i’m SO GLAD you mentioned the white hair on his lapel — distracting!

  • rolacus2

well at least a neck beard on rob here is more appealing than one on shila

  • ChaquitaPhilly

Keep it up with the neck-beard critiques. It may not do any good, but you are so very, very right about them!

  • bluefish

Love the color and cut of the suit — and his super shiny shoes!  I’ll bet that deep down inside that boy is relieved as hell.  I know I would be.  Onto to greener pastures, Robert.

  • For god’s sake, lighten up…it’s summer. Looks like he went from a funeral to red carpet. Would someone please hand me a clothes brush so we can clean up that suite. He is a good looking guy killed by iffy hair and a stupid beard.

  • i think he looks fantastic without kristen stewart hanging all over him, moping.
the suit fits great!  (pants are hemmed!  yay!)

watch his interview with jon stewart on “the daily show”.
    he’s very endearing.

  • His beard is pathetic. I love beards (and can abide a neckbeard in certain situations) but only on men WHO CAN ACTUALLY GROW THEM. Shave it off, Robert.

Otherwise, he has never looked better. Except maybe as Cedric Diggory.
