Rachel Bilson in Los Angeles

Posted on August 20, 2012

This is adorable in a “going out to lunch with a friend” kinda way:

Rachel Bilson out to lunch with a friend in Los Angeles in a Rag & Bone dress paired with Rebecca Minkoff sandals and a Chloé bag.

Rag & Bone Mercer Print Sleeveless Dress

Chloé Elsie Square Shoulder Bag

Rebecca Minkoff ‘Bardot’ sandals

It’s sassy and interesting, but laid back and obviously very comfortable. It helps that she really dressed it up with those sandals, which are SUPER-cute. The bag is nice too, but it almost feels a little too dressy for such a casual outfit.

Maybe we’re overpraising everything, but we’ve covered this gal on the red carpet plenty of times and never saw her wear anything half as interesting as this.

This seems to be the day where we ask a lot of hair questions, but what the hell’s going on on the side of her head there?

    Pinterest hair?

    • PinkLemon

Yeah, braids are having QUITE the moment.

    • Little_Olive

I was gonna say. Although in Pinterest they look very shabby-polished.

  • alyce1213

I’m not digging the cut and pattern layout. Loose and flowing is desirable in hot weather, but this thing is put together like a tent and makes her look huge from every angle.

    • BazoDee

I pretty much just said the exact same thing. Too much tent!

    • schadenfreudelicious

its a bit too maternityesque for my taste, though i am sure it’s cool and comfortable in the heat

Actually, I was thinking lampshade, but it’s the same general idea.

    • http://twitter.com/emilyf007 emily

I’m sorry (I’m actually not) but that thing makes her look OBESE. Not just huge but morbidly large. Like she should see a doctor big. Anything that swallows up a tiny girl and spit out a huge one should be burned.

  • BazoDee

I want to like this -I really do and it is interesting but it is a tent -dreadfully unflattering tent!

    • PinkLemon

She’s about to take flight with one more zephyr.

  • Sobaika

Cute, if a bit average. I don’t think it’s as interesting though.

  • LesYeuxHiboux

She twisted sections of her hair back to put in the ponytail, which keeps it from getting too flat or poufy in the front view but shows big bald-looking patches from the side. I have the same problem. It also looks like second-day hair.

This is a really cute look for her.

  • TieDye64

    Coveting the sandals.

  • Amy Ellinger

Its tenty, but oh, i would wear the SPIT out of this dress during the Texas summers. I’m a bit taller than her, though- makes her a teeny bit stumpy.

and its a braidy-twisty ponytail. Its a handy way to corral layers in longer hair- so they don’t fall out of the pony when you’re running around.

My mother would call that an Omar The Tentmaker dress.

    The shoes are adorable, though.

Are there… braids… on the side of her head? That’s a little too cutesy, DIY, Pinterest-ish.

But the dress is cute, and perfect for a hot, casual day. LOVE the shoes. The purse doesn’t “go” but I don’t think it always has to “go.”

I like the dress and LOVE the sandals. You’re right about the bag; a nice black tote would’ve been just right.

Her hair is already in a ponytail. That random cornrow/twist was unnecessary. And even if she wanted one, it should have bit a bit thicker.

  • MilaXX

Cute outfit. LOVE the sandals. I think the chain straps make the bag a teeny bit too dressy for the look. As for the hair, I think she tried to do some flat twist on the sides and they either didn’t quite work or her hairs too fine to hold them.

  • MoHub

    I WANT those sandals!

    • prettybigkitty

Me too. Very, very much so. I heart them.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=678337501 Carla Axtman

Hmmm…really? It sort of looks like a giant tent to me. LOVE the sandals, tho.

  • http://twitter.com/dixielou8 Ashley

    Is she pregnant?

  • GillianHolroyd

Those sandals are stunning. Cute dress, maybe the wrong length.

  • jilly_d

Hideously unflattering. LOVE the sunnies and sandals though.

  • nannypoo

The dress looks like a Project Runway fail but the shoes are cute.

  • GillianHolroyd

How I HATE this new comment format. I have to check it EVERY time to see all the comments.

I mean, it defaults to “best”.

  • Qitkat

Cute prints. Nice back, bulbous and droopy from front and sides. I’d be nervous of a surprise breeze. A sassy idea sure, but needed tweaking.
    Love the sandals.

  • DaveUWSNYC

It’s the kind of dress your buttcheeks would eat getting out of a car. Hate the dress and the hair.

  • Contralto

Love the pattern; however it looks like something I’d toss on after a shower.

  • crash1212

Re: Hair – looks like she had a couple of braids on each side and then decided to sweep it all back. Odd, to say the least. Super cute dress and shoes!

  • http://vhanna26.typepad.com Vera

It’s cute for the most part, but could have been less loose. At least she’s seasonal.

  • VeryClaire

Cute dress, cute shoes. But I think she’s going to be stripped of her celebrity status if she doesn’t get a bag the size of an overnight bag!

  • Judy_J

Would be a cute maternity dress.

  • SapphoPoet

I like the dress, love the sandals. The bag seems a bit fussy and autumnal for this look. Not sure what’s happening with her hair.

  • Susan Crawford

Very cute dress and sandals. I like the bag as well, but it seems too tailored and autumnal for this summery look. But with a great tweed blazer or hacking jacket, menswear-inspired trousers and a pair of Tod’s. . . yes, this is the right bag. And I want one.

  • http://twitter.com/amndad amanda lynn

i’ve got a very layer-y haircut and if i want to pull my hair back braids are very helpful.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1208138556 Sara Munoz Munoz

Ugh, no. The dress… is just bad.
I love the sandals though. Very cute and comfy looking. And trendy but not fashion-victimy.

  • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

that’s probably what my hair looks like from the side when i put it in a ponytail, but i wouldn’t know because i don’t have a two way mirror.  maybe that’s her problem as well.

  • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

cute dress, love the two prints, but what’s up with the hemline?  is it longer on the sides and short in the front and back?  it’s a sideways mullet skirt.

  • margaret meyers

I think we’re all attracted to it at first because it looks so, so comfortable… and we like that.  But really, that dipping cut across the waist and hips echoed in the hem is clunky, not graceful, and the contrasting fabric pairing doesn’t work.  And the deep arm holes look so long-day-in-the-garden.  No.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jessica-TallGirl-Freeman/1043623567 Jessica TallGirl Freeman

It would be better if it didn’t look like she could hide a hula hoop under it.

  • ConnieBV

This kid has a great figure, but this thing makes her look hippy a hell. Boo.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/J5QKZG5NFXQE3MLXFN3MAQDUTA Mary Stone

what’s going on with the side of her head is this: grab hair in ponytail, move elastic currently residing on your wrist onto hair, wrap around hair, twist, repeat.  Without benefit of comb or mirror.  Yoga class hair.  That’s a trend, isn’t it.  The dress is interesting and comfortable, but not exactly flattering, it’s a pup tent with an interesting bottom border treatment.

  • afabulous50

    HIDEOUS!

  • TheOriginalLulu

I just can’t believe that this thing costs $400. Seriously, all it is is two pieces of fabric sewn together, with no shape or anything to it. As a matter of fact, the shape is exactly like a nightgown I have, which cost all of $16.99.
I have a hard time believing anyone would actually pay $400 for that. You’d have to be a real sucker.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_3KCDEX4FOTCFHZP6WLKSOOKUVM Danielle

Um, no – disagree.  This is passable in the “I’m 8+ months pregnant and it’s hot as hell, but I have to wear something, so a tent will do” sort of way.

  • librarygrrl64

Yawn, Rachel Bilson. Wake me up when it’s over……zzzz……

  • sockandaphone

it looks comfortable but it makes her look so wide. like anyone over a size 0 cannot pull this off without looking huge.

  • guest2visits

Really simple and casual, but really cute. Don’t love the bag, but it’s not terrible.

  • veronkimo

She obviously thought that braids would look cute on her, but she has really thin hair and not much of it…. so, it doesn’t look as hot as on someone else. sorry, bilson. Love ya, girl.
