Paper Magazine: Get Busy, Get Dizzy

Posted on August 16, 2012

Before we open the T Lounge and begin the process of dulling our senses in preparation for tonight’s episode of Psych Ward! Project Runway, we thought it best to stimulate them a little. And what better way to charge up the senses than with this pattern-tastic editorial from Paper Magazine. If you stare at it long enough, you might see a sailboat or something! Maybe!

    ow. my head hurts.

    • Sara LaBatt

      I had that exact thought.

    • Sara Feltner

My rods and cones are poppin’! Just add scrolling for insty-nausea!

    • Louise Bryan

I am totally with you.  I thought I was getting a migraine until I got to the end.  The comments helped return my balance.

  • Kiltdntiltd

I found the sailboat! I also found the lost city of El Dorado, the original formula for Coca Cola, Waldo, a cure for halitosis, and a pair of toe socks I lost in 1973. Do I win something?

    • HomeOfficeGirl

      LOL!  My eyeballs hurt!

    • Ginny Ellsworth

My undying affection! And a pet Weeble. :-)

For that comment? You certainly should!

    • RebeccaKW

       So many likes.

    • LesYeuxHiboux

Jimmy Hoffa and the Fountain of Youth (coincidentally the name of my new indie band).

      • Kiltdntiltd

        Fantastic band name!!!

    • NurseEllen

       Yeah, but where’s Amelia Earhart?

      • Kiltdntiltd

She’s probably on the back of one of those outfits, where we can’t see her, along with the crew of the Enola Gay, and the Andrea Doria.

  • MilaXX

It’s like that episode of FRIENDS where Joey put on all of Chandler’s clothes.  Each mode looks like they are wearing the entire collection.

    •ía-Gavello/1253586868 Lucía Gavello

      Wonder if they’re going commando?

    • Sara Munoz Munoz

Could I BE wearing any more clothes??!?

      • Lori

You can’t go commando in another man’s fatigues!

  • Frank_821

Ouch, I think now need a deprivation tank. The assault of colors patterns is liken to how the japanese traditionally like to match their kimonos and obis.

However there is something to it and kudos to the people for their audacity

  • homofascist

I totally love this.  I want that striped jacket.

    • Brady Galan

       Me too!

  • Karen Tully

This should come with a warning about pattern-induced seizures.

  • newleaf1

Hey, is this one of those magic eye things?  Or is Waldo in here?  Cool!  (Also reminds me of my sister’s Peter Max pants from 1972).

  • ChaquitaPhilly

LOVE IT! The perfect cure for whatever ails you: PAPER MAGAZINE!

  • Apocalipstick Now Redux

It’s like the models had to look as blank and bored as possible to distract from the rest of the…seizure inducements.

    • j_anson

Except the Asian model! She’s got some sass shining through in a few of those.

  • Kathy Marlow

It reminds me a little of the United Colors of Benetton ads back in the day..somehow..

    • random_poster

Yes! It’s United Colors of Benetton Gone Mad.

  • SewingSiren

Very United Colors of Benetton.  I love the mens  striped vest and striped jacket. The models are great too.

  • jonnyf8

Oh how I miss Kooan already!!!

  • schadenfreudelicious

    had to stop, migraine inducing….

  • wisenhar

I COVET the men’s pants in the first picture, but I’m also perfectly aware that I would look absurd in them.

  • VioletFem

Why do style editors do this? Aside from the fact that this is concept of piling on every article of clothing on one model has been overdone to death, it is really annoying. There are actually some cute pieces in here but they are so hard to pick out among all this clutter.

  • j_anson

    This is awesome. So lush.

  • mjude

this is another reason why i have dry eye.

  • ojosazules

Love it, but it would be rough running into this bunch hung over.

  • Michael Telles

This has to be one of the best features on this website in a really long time

  • Judy_J

I need to stare at a blank piece of paper now.  My eyelids are twitching.

  • SewingSiren

I stared long enough and i saw a pair of green satin wedge sling backs with giant glitter on them. I love them so much I almost can’t stand not owning them.

  • Ass Kicking Adviser

Fan frickin’ pattern tastic! It makes me want to pull out the sewing machine and head to the fabric store.

  • hughman

Hipster Emergency Tip #1 – when your apartment in Williamsburg catches on fire, put on all your clothes at once and run, not walk, to your photo shoot.

  • call_me_schmeg

coming from someone with a big! loud! graphic wallpaper accent wall! in my dining room, please don’t look at this if you’ve consumed any psychadelics.

  • blue

That’s a fun editorial! Kind of eye-searing, but definitely interesting and stylish.

  • PinkLemon

  • SapphoPoet

I’m getting a migraine just looking at this.

  • GillianHolroyd

    Love all of it.

  • krelnick

The wind tunnel created by Coco Chanel spinning in her grave has knocked down several headstones and bent a tree.

  • Jessica | Surely Sonsy

this, more than anything else ever posted here, truly made my eyes hurt.

  • sherrietee

is this one of those magic eye pictures where if you can just unfocus your eyes long enough you can see a picture of a bear or something?

  • guest2visits

My sister had giant cuffed plaid pants of that exact material in the first pic, with platforms of course. Late 70s.
    It may be the same pair of pants, cropped short; since hers were made of some kind of industrial polyester/acrylic fake wool;
    – to last into the next ice age.

  • kimmeister

Now I feel like making an origami crane.

  • UglyCasanova

Male model has some gorgeous lips.

  • Tatiana Luján

    I see Matisse.

  • marilyn

Now I see where Kooan was coming from.  No one was EVER going to understand his perspective!

  • Joshua Woofter

    Look a schooner!

  • NJPaganelli

I want all of the guy’s pants. And the guy, but I digress.

  • ballerinawithagun

    Did Style Bubble do this?

  • MarissaLG

Is it just me? I think this is brilliant!

    • Melvis Velour

TOTALLY brilliant!  Just not at 5:06AM CT when I wasn’t quite ready for it…

  • Gabriella M

I love this. I feel like these sorts of editorials are good for pattern-matching/clashing inspiration, and then silhouette.

  • tinyredlocks

    This was seizure-inducing…

  • Qitkat

Oh, Good Grief. At least we now know where Karen Gillam got her inspiration. See alien* below.

I love color. I love prints. I have mixed many a print in my time designing quilts.
But this is multi-hued vomitus. Sorry, to put that in ya’lls minds, but yeah, puke.
Not edgy, not cool, not out of the box.
This is how an alien* would think we dress if they had all the scraps from all the seasons of Project Runway.

Although I do like the outfit in #6, third from bottom.

  • Verascity

    And now I’m blind.

  • PeggyOC

Head hurts, and I was never any good at those magic eye thingies.  But it’s visually striking (even if it strikes a little hard) and props to them for using models who also represent different colors!

  • EEKstl

I don’t know how this is working, yet it is.  But I do need Visine now.

  • Janey

I LOVE ALL THE PATTERNS but my eyes hurt

  • Ashleigh Boutelle

I LOVE THIS. love love love. I want the pants in #1! gimme

  • Trisha26

    Make it stop……………

  • formerlyAnon

I liked looking at this. Like a treasure hunt to see the clothes as pieces, though.

  • littlemac8

I’m pretty sure somebody got a migraine from looking at this editorial!!
