Olivia Munn in Raquel Allegra

Posted on August 23, 2012

We don’t know WHAT the hell kind of lousy day Olivia Munn was having, but we feel like telling her to skip Letterman and go treat herself to some Ben & Jerry’s or something.

Olivia Munn makes an appearance on ‘The Late Show with David Letterman’ in New York City in a Raquel Allegra dress paired with Sole Society sandals.

Raquel Allegra Pleated Cotton-jersey and Voile Dress

This is a total Monet of a dress. We thought she looked okay at a glance, but when we got in close we realized that she put on a shapeless sack that just barely corrals her boobs, with  a mullet hem and fraying edges EVERYWHERE, and then, in an attempt to make it NOT a shapeless sack, she crookedly belted it with something she got off the racks at Today’s Man and clipped an iPhone case to it. Sure, the hair and makeup look presentable and the shoes are okay, although they look like an ankle snap waiting to happen (and we’re inclined not to like what we call “naked shoes”), but from anything closer than 15 feet away, girl is kind of a MESS. This is a dress for cranky, bloated, eating-on-the-couch days, not public appearance ones.

Wow. This dress appears to have some kind of built-in boob restraints. Or, did she just realize at the last minute that she needed some boob restraint, so she cut the straps off a bra and glued the cups to her chesties? Is there some kind of special boob glue?

    • VioletFem

At first I thought it was a strapless bra, until I realized this dress is nearly backless.

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_2CNDPMVO4W23R5TVC2QMTJ5BZE Heather

I thought that at first, but look at the side view. If she was wearing a strapless bra, you’d see the sides and back of it, going under her arm. It’s like she’s JUST wearing the cups.

        • Sobaika

I think they’re pasty type things that are meant to prevent nipplitis.

        • margaret meyers

She must be wearing just press-apply cups.
I suppose without the belt this muu-muu wouldn’t need nipple coverage, but once she got the belt on she realized the dress was indecent day wear without them.  I think that when you a realization like that you have to say no to that dress.  Really, this dress has a taste problem and should be photographed by a dumpster.

      • MilaXX

it could be a backless strapless. They are tricky to wear because the not straps go down and round the waist. My guess that is why you can see the imprint of the bra.

    • artsykelly

I think she has one of those silicone stick on bras on, like this: http://www.amazon.com/Adhesive-Silicone-Color-Backless-Strapless/dp/B000QURHUU/ref=pd_sbs_a_4

    • artsykelly

I think she’s wearing a silicone stick on bra.  Google it!

      • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

I think you’re right. No other answer for how smoothly that super tight top is gliding over her boobage.

        • j_anson

She definitely does have something on. You can see the outlines in several of the pictures, especially the last one. There’s clearly nothing built-in on the one on the model (though I suppose she could have had something added in tailoring.

          • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

I think our fellow PUFs are right that she has on adhesive bra cups.  Lord those must be uncomfortable.  Anyone here ever use them?

          • Kristin McNamara

            NOT comfortable. Painful to remove…..

          • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

I’ve used latex pieces in theater with spirit gum. Getting that stuff off my face was murder.  I can only imagine.

          • MilaXX

yep, like pulling a giant bandaid off your boobs

        • AzSportsGirl

OOOOO yeah. I’ve used them and HELLO raw skin when they are ripped off. Also, er um, well they are QUITE the shock to any companion who is getting amorous!!!

          • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_2CNDPMVO4W23R5TVC2QMTJ5BZE Heather

Ouch, I can only imagine! Plus, the residue!!

Thanks to the fellow Bitter Kittens who clarified my initial question. I had no idea that silicone stick-on boob cups were a thing that existed in this world. Learning is a lifelong endeavor!

          • poggi

Wow.  I get pain for fashion.  But if you are going to be uncomfortable and risk raw skin by pasting a bra to your chest, you had better look damn good.  This outfit isn’t worth it.

    • schadenfreudelicious

she is definitely wearing one of those stick on bras that just cover the front, they are shaped liked a strapless bra, sans straps…didnt notice it at first…

  • MarissaLG

Cute, but painful-looking shoes. The dress is the losing look on PR.

    • AudreysMom

including poor sewing skills. Do I see frayed hems in the close up?

      • Anabag

The model’s skirt is also frayed, which suggests that it’s intentional?!?  It looks pretty awful to me.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_VZLU6YVO4BRTELTTH3GRAAMWZQ Dot

How do those shoes even stay on when she walks? The way her toes are crammed under that front strap looks painful — like her toes are trying to escape.

  • schadenfreudelicious

it’s only a matter of time before one of her girls makes a run for the border in that dress….

  • http://twitter.com/MandySCG MandyJane

The color looks great on her, but yeah everything else is a mess.

  • Sobaika

A resounding ‘MEH’ to the outfit.

Entirely unrelated note: Is anyone else floored that she’s killing it on The Newsroom? She’s honestly the best part and I’d barely heard of her before.

    • artsykelly

Agreed!  I love her character and I also hadn’t really heard of her before.

      • gabbilevy

She spent lots of time as a correspondent on the Daily Show, on which she was awesome. I love her as Sloan on the Newsroom, too.

        • ampg

Oh God, I thought she was horrible on The Daily Show. Totally unfunny and always looking like she’d rather be somewhere else.  I was so glad when she left.  Haven’t seen The Newsroom, but I thought she was surprisingly good in Magic Mike.

        • bellafigura1

           Wasn’t she on House, too?

          • teensmom99

            Olivia Wilde was on house.

        • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_CQVHL5FXQGJJJPXUFXXBM3UZ3Y Maria Reine

I liked her on G4′s Attack of the Show.  Everything she’s done since, including the Daily Show, has seemed stiff and awkward, as if she is trying just too hard to be funny.

    • MilaXX

I’ve loved her since the Daily Show. For some reason I can;t get worked up enough to watch the Newsroom so I don’t know how she is there.

      • Sobaika

I have many MANY issues with the show and have considered giving it up, but she’s one of main reasons I want to stick around. I remember her now on the Daily Show and you’re right, she was great on it. I’m interested in seeing more of her.

    • Kristin McNamara

The Newsroom is my new obsession. I’ve spent the last two weeks getting up to speed on this whole season! She steals the show, you’re absolutely right. Her character is so unaware, it’s hilarious.

      • gabbilevy

Me too, so much. But am 110% the target audience for the show–it could have been written for me. Newsy: check. Political: check. “Insider baseball” of the news process: I’m all there. Badly-written romantic storylines: hell yeah. Tons of references to musical theater. John Gallagher Jr. Sorkin says what’s in my brain and puts it on TV. And Munn is killing it.

  • teensmom99

Monet of a dress–love that and will have to use it (will of course give credit).

    • AthenaJ

The monet line is originally from the movie ‘Clueless’

      • teensmom99

OMG, how did I forget that?  Must mean I’m due to re-see Clueless.

  • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Its actually not mullet hemmed, its just that her rack is pulling the dress up in front quite a bit. and fergawdsakes, if you insist on belting this, make sure that crosswise seam is straight afterwards.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_ZBFH32YG44LIIZYLSQPMBXMYCU Sarah

‘Tis mullety on the model, though, and she does not have nearly the rack of Olivia. Agreed on the belt. It was not meant to be, on that dress, which was not meant to be worn in a more fancy way, in the first place. Color looks great on her, though.

      • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

How right you are!  Oops. Sorry I missed that.

  • rab01

I think the dress actually has more of a monet effect than that — I think she looks great in this picture and the dress combined with strapless bra is, intentionally, making her look curvier than she actually she is. So the dress may not look great but it’s doing its job of making her look great. I wish the belt buckle weren’t off-center but this is definitely not a dress for someone feeling bloated.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Ashetalia-Staatz/100001792695528 Ashetalia Staatz

The belt wrecks the dress; the whole point of the thing is to be easy, loose, flowing.  I’d personally wear it grocery shopping on a hot day, or to the beach. The unhemmed look is cute; it adds to the flowy skirt.

    • kikisayshi

You’re absolutely right – this dress is fine for running errands, but not for a TV appearance. I know the frayed hem is intentional because you can see it on the model, but to me it just adds to the sloppy look she’s got going on.

      • bellafigura1

I’d love to run your kind of errands if this is what you’d wear! Glam life!

        • kikisayshi

Haha I run errands in jeans and a t-shirt. But if I was a celeb in LA I might wear a dress like this. It just doesn’t seem suitable for an event.

  • EverybodysStarling

The dress looks like my 3-year-old got himself some fun with scissors. Holy Moly.

  • janetjb

The color is pretty on her.

    That’s all I can muster.

    • Sue_Asponte

Agreed. It looks so great at first glance. Total Monet.

  • MK03

Ugh. She’s another one on my irrational hate list.

  • TheLaurenJean

She looks fine! You are just extra cranky today, I say.

    • http://www.facebook.com/fiddlecub Kevin VanOrd

Did you look at the dress? It’s fraying all over.

  • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

This is the fourth mullet skirt I have seen today.  WHERE WILL IT END?!!

    • Judy_J

Funny you should mention that.  I’m wearing my very first mullet skirt today, and I’m kind of digging it.  I always hated them, too, but oh, well…….

      • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

Eh, what do I know?  :)

        • Judy_J

          It was a bargain I couldn’t resist. :)

      • Little_Olive

Me too! I used to loathe them! How much of a victim of marketing do I feel like… But this one actually looks cute (the difference between short and long is not too much)

  • nannypoo

Awful. And those shoes. Let us never speak of this again.

  • piecesofconfetti

The “intentionally raw hem” is making me twitchy. I could find better uses for $300.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jessica-TallGirl-Freeman/1043623567 Jessica TallGirl Freeman

Not to mention her taped on bra is showing through…..messy!!!

    • SewingSiren

Better to see that she’s wearing a bra, than to see that she’s not.

  • SewingSiren

She’s busty so she belted it, so she wouldn’t look like a tree trunk. But it was the wrong thing to do. Shoulda just picked a different dress. Even if she had to , you know, actually pay for it. Sometimes freebees aren’t worth it. The dress actually could look quite striking on a woman with a smallish bust. Like an updated flapper.

  • GillianHolroyd

This dress is not meant to be worn in The City.

    • DeTrop

You hit the nail on the head.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_ZBFH32YG44LIIZYLSQPMBXMYCU Sarah

As a woman who spent three months on the couch last year after an unfortunate deployment of very high wedges in Las Vegas and a subsequent shattered ankle and repeated surgeries resulting in a plate and thirteen pins in my leg, I cannot endorse those evil shoes. They are plotting injury on their wearer, have no doubt.

    • SalmonCanon

Oh my gosh. What a horrible story. I will never wear shoes like that again.

  • Judy_J

That is one sad dress.  The chopped-off with a scissors hem alone qualifies this for the rag bag.  And I really hate, and I mean HATE those shoes.  The dude standing behind her is calling for backup for this fashion emergency.

  • Little_Olive

Disagree on the shoes. I wouldn’t wear them (those heels scare me) but I think they’re great. And anyone who can pull off ankle straps and not get cankles is object of my envy.

Agree that the dress is a summer housedress with a fug belt. The non-sideboob combined with that arm opening is too threatening to wear in public.

  • http://twitter.com/MajorBedhead MajorBedhead

It looks like something’s been chewing on that dress, like her boobs are trying to make a run for it and her feel look tortured and ridiculous in those shoes. I hate the mullet dresses that seem to be everywhere lately. Those and the sharkbite hems can just die a nice, fire-y death.

The colour is gorgeous on her and she’s a very pretty girl, but this is not a good look for her.

  • l_c_ann

I thought some idiot had chopped it off in front to show her legs.  Wrong.Even the model’s hem is frayed, not that it should be called a hem, it’s a cut edge, nothing more and a whole lot less.
And if the designers thought that frayed around the neckline would pull it together, WTH were they thinking.

I really thought that she was so frustrated with it that she had taken a not very sharp pair of scissors to it.

  • Kate4queen

I really don’t like those mullet skirt dresses and they are everywhere!! Even in my local Target!!

  • http://www.GiftedCollector.com Nancy Abrams

The designer should be ashamed of herself to allow a dress to leave her studio with such shoddy workmanship. Olivia didn’t have anything else to wear?

  • PinkLemon

    I want those shoes!!

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1576973112 Patricia Groves Dobrowski

why does a dress that’s supposed to be made of cotton jersey/voile look like it’s made out of cheap polyester suit lining?  Plus, while the hem’s frayed on the model’s dress as well, the fraying at the straps just makes this look a dress that’s been on the floor of her closet that she’s forgotten about for 5 years, and wanted to see if she can still pull off.

  • j_anson

Fun fact: I actually did break my foot falling off of shoes like those once. It also involved a very cute puppy and not watching where I was going.

  • MoHub

It looks to be about 3 sizes too big, and that belt isn’t helping. I like it on the model in a 1920s chemise-dress kind of way. It just looks tortured on Olivia.

  • NCDFan

I kinda like the concept of the dress but with those unfinished edges it looks poorly made. The neckline appears to be puckered and frayed. I can see why she’d want to belt it but with that dropped waist I don’t see how she could have done it without making the seam uneven unless she bloused the part above the belt which defeats the purpose of adding the belt in the first place. Pretty color on her though.

  • Melissa Brogan

Girlfriend needs to get another dress in that color. Almost any other dress.

  • marilyn

Ah- another dumpster/Dave Letterman picture.  She actually looks okay, and I think the belt improves the dress.  I can’t see it up close like you can, so I am going to say she looks fine.  Why do they pose in front of the dumpster?  How classy can that be?

  • charlotte

Mess of a dress, yes, but she deserves some props for (probably) being able to sit down in it.

  • ojosazules

Something strange is happening with whatever it is that is holding her boobs in check.

  • CarolinLA

I don’t get why this girl has a career.  She’s cute and she’s got a nice rack but she cannot act.  I never understood how she got hired for the Daily Show either because she has no comic timing.  She must give off a sexy vibe in the room or on camera because I don’t see any other reason to hire her.

  • SneakyKitty

And to top it all off, she’s getting her picture taken in front of a dumpster.  I feel bad for her.

  • Laylalola

I’m now convinced still photos don’t do her justice. She is breathaking on The Newsroom, and not a single still photo comes close to capturing that somehow.

  • MilaXX

This looks like something from her own closet.  If it wasn’t for the frayed edges and visible strapless bra, I’d like this. I guess that means I like the idea of this look more than the actual look.

  • ballerinawithagun

Perfect from the front but don’t move!

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/FUKKIIH5ZIACY4IOLLXOX6PR6U T

I think she’s really, really pretty, and the color’s nice. I’m enjoying the photo bomber behind her just a little more.

  • Contralto

    NO.  NO.  NO.

  • http://www.thirteen.org/downton-abbey/category/the-downton-dish/ Gotham Tomato

If a stylist did this to her, that stylist should lose their license.

  • quiltrx

Those shoes are AWFUL.  And the dress is indeed a Monet…I couldn’t have said it better myself.

  • http://twitter.com/annaria Ria V

LOL @ Monet. How very Clueless.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/J2VE4NE2FY2BP4QD2XOYKJGLPI Laura

That dress is a piece of crap. Yikes. Tacky, frayed. Yuck.

  • m0r0

Anytime a belt is under a woman’s breasts….it is irredeemable.

  • http://twitter.com/yankeefoxtrot Alex McGeagh

A rare occasion when I can’t agree with anything you boys wrote. Her hair and makeup look fabulous, the color and breeziness of that dress is lovely too. I wanted to love the shoe but then I saw her pinky toes falling out of them and had to draw the line…

  • holdmewhileimnaked

wasnt, whats her name–katie–tom cruise’s exwife–wasnt she wearing this dress recently? if not, boy does it look like a dress she would wear. the unbelted version, of course.

  • RzYoung

Weird, just odd what a disaster. Although I appreciate the stick-on bra.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Louise-Bryan/1177213326 Louise Bryan

Was this a long dress that someone attacked with scissors?  The fraying is visible from quite a distance.  And the belt is… odd.

  • jw_ny

That extra fabric hanging off the back could be better utilized for covering side boob.  Those shoes look like she could easily slip out of them…”ankle snap” is right!

This outfit is really tragic once you closely look at it.

  • boweryboy

You don’t belt a dropped waist dress. Whoever her gays are they need to fired and then stripped of their gay membership card.

  • http://twitter.com/cornekopia Shawn EH

    There’s a walk-of-shame vibe going on here.

  • DesertDweller79

Her boobs look sad in this.  She needs to not wear this kind of dress anymore so that she can wear a decent bra.

  • DeTrop

Am I right in seeing fraying on the runway dress?  Is this becoming a new fad?  If so, it should stop.

  • Anniebet

Her little pinky toe isn’t quite covered by that minimal strap on the shoes. One of my pet peeves is seeing toes hanging off the side of shoes. So off-putting.  Those shoes look like “posing” shoes, certainly not “walking” shoes.

  • http://robot-heart.tumblr.com heartbot

If you look like her, why would you waste it on such ugly–and not even interesting ugly–clothes?

  • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

it’s an insult to monet to associate his name with this dress.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_F73LIJ3SJGI5AJQMXMWXCKILHI Pamela

Haha!  “Ankle snap waiting to happen.”  Exactly what I think of nearly every pair of shoes featured here daily.

  • Truly_Outrageous

Ugh HAATE the shoes. And the dress looks suited for a waif body type (and this is in no way attacking her body type).
