Morena Baccarin in Maria Lucia Hohan

Posted on August 01, 2012

Morena, we’re begging you: stop wearing your hair like this.

“Homeland” star Morena Baccarin attends 2012 TCA Summer Tour – CBS, Showtime and The CW Party in a Maria Lucia Hohan dress.

Maria Lucia Hohan ‘Lexy’ Mini Dress

We realize her character on Homeland is not at all glamorous and is meant to be a typical suburban housewife in a family that appears to not have a lot of extra cash lying around, so an aggressively UN-chic haircut like this makes a certain amount of sense. But you pair it with a dress, jewelry and shoes like that and it REALLY looks wrong. Honey, slick that shit back if you have to. You looked fabulous in a pixie cut so we’re thinking a slicked-back wet look might work really well for you.

The dress is pretty, although we don’t like those things hanging off the back all that much. The shoes are a HUGE improvement over the last pair we saw on her. We think it’s kind of charming and endearingly defiant that she refuses to wear anything but a relatively modest heel on the red carpet. The pressure for her to strap on the platforms and stilettos must be enormous. Maybe she has a doctor’s note.

Finally!!! Someone actually cut off their bridesmaid dress and wore it again!

    • librarygrrl64

      Bra-va (slow clap).

  • I have to disagree about the hair. I love the short, casual look she’s got going on. Dress is fabulous on her too.

    • VioletFem

Same here. I like it,  it has a breezy look to it that is nice looking. The pixie look suits her better than this cut, but she is obviously trying to grow her hair out, so there are probably going to be some awkward lengths along the way. It certainly looks better than it did in the last post.

  • Le_Sigh

Is she just growing out the pixie cut or something?  The damn thing seems so… unfinished.

    • Yes, she cut it off right before she did V and has kept it for a while now. It does seem unfinished..I’ve said previously that she should be able to find someone to put extensions in until the real thing comes in a bit better

  • Judy_J

I have an irrational hatred of that dress.  The color, the fabric, the design, none of it works for me.  It looks like some forlorn castoff she found at a thrift store.  Sad, really.

    • MoHub

       Could she look any saggier?

      • Judy_J

        Saggy and depressing.

      • It is a dress that absolutely requires standing up straight, shoulders back and tits to the wind.  Otherwise, it looks like the whole thing is pulling her down.

        • MsMajestyk

Tits to the wind will be my mantra!  Thanks GTT!

          • Giving credit where credit is due, Bette Midler coined the phrase (as far as I know).  But I’m sure she won’t mind if you adopt it as a mantra!

        • luciaphile

The dress reminds me of what the Amazons on Wonder Woman wore during the first episode of Wonder Woman (Lynda Carter) or maybe from an episode of the original Star Trek….

    • Agreed.  To me, when the bodice stop suddenly and the illusion netting (GAG) starts, it just looks like the wearer just threw on an unfinished from from the dress form.

    • HazellC

It looks like a cheap ice dancing costume. Hate it.

  • call_me_schmeg

that minty? seafoamy? greenish color is beautiful on her skin. but ohmygodthathair.

  • BawlmerGurl

She is gorgeous, but this hairstyle hides it all too well.

I like the dress AND the things in the back!

I am a dork — those heels are plenty high for me…

    • carolie_king

Somebody, somewhere is going to have to explain the overly high heel thing to me. Somewhat high heels make your legs look attractive, but most RC shoes jumped the shark long ago. It can’t just be that women are trying to look taller, because tall women wear them too. Is it a status pain tolerance thing, like when guys eat ridiculously hot peppers and pretend they like it?

      • BawlmerGurl

No, I have to conclude that heels high enough that prevent the wearer from walking easily are designed to do just that–prevent freedom of movement.

And why would only women be expected to wear something that prevents free movement?

        Hhhhhmmmmm…….Let me think……….

  • That is a figure skating costume.

    • poketom

      my thoughts exactly!

  • nomoreprinces

Growing out my own pixie cut and it seems like she and I have the same sort of hair texture going on, slicking that back makes look like some weird shellacked helmet.  It doesn’t stay as flat to the head as one would hope.  That being said, there’s ways of making it look sassy, but it’s tough as hell.  These days it’s either a headband and messy wet-look curls or Mama Incredibles hair. Sigh.

  • mom2ajs5

I want to give the hanging things in the back a good tug to hoist up the front!

    • Lori

And then cut off the excess that’s hanging down below the hem. It looks way less odd on the model because the whatever-you-call-them stop at the hem instead of trailing off behind her.

      • mom2ajs5

Very good point. I didn’t realize that until you said it, but yes, it looks better without them being longer than the hem.

  • Baggy illusion netting makes one look like a Shar-Pei.

  • The hanging things remind me of those wire puzzle desk toys. Like if you just find the right way to pull it, it’ll all come free of itself.

  • Allyson Wells

I hate that wrinkly, skin-colored fabric on the back… what is the point of that exactly? It doesn’t seem to serve much purpose here.

    • MilaXX

The illusion netting is fug, but it sometimes gives designers a way to make a dress that has the appearance of being naked/backless but with less chance of a wardrobe malfunction since the bits covering the boobs have something to hold onto and don’t have to try and defy gravity. The problem is illusion netting is difficult to match to skin color really well and can get a bit wrinkly like it is on the model.

  • Also, I bet she’d look fabulous if she curled it into something with more umph.

  • John Gregor

I love the hair.  It’s got a post-Dorothy-Hamill, disco era vibe to it.  I’m guessing she’s trying to grow it out.

  • Dr. Derf van der Derf

This dress makes her boobs look sad.

    • Catiline

This!!!!   I wasn’t even looking at the hair because the bust is so horrifically droopy.

  • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

I do have to give her points for not standing in the usual twee “I gotta pee” pose that too many starlets do.  Seriously, how can we make it stop?

  • nannypoo

Illusion netting is the work of the devil.

    • bittykitty

you took the words right out of my mouth. looking at it gives me hives. why won’t it stay at the icecapades where it belongs?

  • I imagine she’s growing out the pixie.  I prefer this to extensions.  Kinda reminds me of my 70s high school hair.

  • afabulous50

This reminds me of my old Prom dress in the 70’s – only shorter.  Same color too!

  • Some ladies–and I am one of them–cannot pull off a middle part for the life of them. I’m thinking that parting her hair in the middle is causing a lot of the wonkiness here. She’d look really different with a side part.

  • ScarlettHarlot

Why is she wearing Ashley Judd’s hair style?

  • Ice skating costume.  Or something Taylor Swift would wear. I don’t hate the shoes.

  • I wonder if a very soft fingerwave would work for that length. The dress being sort of 1920s-30s, that could have worked well.

  • I love the shoes with the dress; very soft and satiny. But she should be going for some Brigitte Nielsen 80s slicked-back look, totally. All that soft and flowy isn’t for the RC.

  • Alexis Keller

I disagree with some of the commentariat I LOVE that dress its such a pretty color and style. I want it my closest now!

  • j_anson

That make-up is managing to make her look like a girl-next-door 16-year-old, which is very very odd with the soccer-mom haircut.

  • sashaychante

The shoes don’t bother me, however, that dress is a lot of bizniz.  It’s got a lot going on, and what is up with the mesh on the back, which I think is called “illusion netting”, but I can’t remember my fashion terms.  It makes her look like she has stretch marks along her sides, at least in the pic.  Not loving the color of the dress either…it looks seafoam green to me…which reminds me of 1980’s interior design color schemes (peach, seafoam, dusty blues), YIKES!

  • Any time I see her looking “normal” (not Inara or Anna), all I can see is the Crazy-Eyes girl from How I Met Your Mother.

  • Leonardo Alves

I really hate this color on her!

  • sagecreek

I really wanted to say, “Awww, there’s our girl!”

But no. Can’t say that. Morena, stop.

  • TheOriginalLulu

The color is very pretty on her, but the dress itself is bad. As mom2ab said above, it REALLY looks as if she re-purposed a bridesmaid dress. Also, her straps are wonky. One looks wider than the other. The hair I really don’t want to talk about.

  • kimmeister

I liked this dress so much better before I realized that half of its back was missing.

  • MilaXX

I was thinking the same thing, slick that hair back and it would glam this look right up. This looks like she was trying on outfits for a wedding she’s going to later. You expect her to leave and put her jeans and tshirt back on any minute. Also is is me or does her foundation look slightly off? It’s matched well, just looks a bit heavy as if she has her makeup on from filming.

  • miagain

I don’t get it… those shoes look like stilettos to me…. they’re just not the reeedickulous platform stilettos we have unfortunately become accustomed to of late.

  • H3ff

But dammit if she doesn’t have probably THE prettiest face of any of her peers. I don’t know if it’s the shape of her eyes or what, but she is just so uniquely beautiful. I can’t say a bad word about her.

  • ChelseaNH

The dress is making her boobs look sad, which makes me feel sad.

  • littlemac8

Once again I am tying some netting around the mouth of a vase into a colorful bow.  It compliments the flowers therein.  It is an excellent  use for netting.  THE END.  Oh, and I hate mint green with uncontained passion.

  • Figure skating costume.

  • The hair is SOOO much better than than last time. The dress and shoes are ok, but a marked improvement.

  • alyce1213

Awful, sad looking, terrible design, washed out.
    Nice shoes, though.

  • another_laura

I just can’t with the illusion netting.  Once I see it I can’t see anything else.

  • LambeeBaby

I hate her hair. It ages her about 15 years and although the color of the dress is pretty, the silhouette is very ice dance appropriate.

  • formerlyAnon

I think she’s adorable and the hair usually works for her – but it certainly isn’t fancy enough for the dress, about which I am ambivalent: front, mostly yea; back, mostly nay.

Hell, I don’t care. She looks JUST LIKE the buddy with whom you escape all the boring events midway through. And whatever’s on the agenda from there on out is always a good time.

  • All she needs now is a ski boat and other girls in that same dress to stand and make a pyramid (circa 1955 when that dress was last in style)- Remember the Go-Go’s Vacation video? (and ditto th  dreadful hair) this is the same goddess from Serenity?

  • granddelusion

I like those shoes. Theyre plenty high enough. Good for her!

  • guest2visits

Thought this dress was so pretty until she showed us the side view. Now I hate the dress. What a messy back, kind of tacky too.
In fact, it looks kind of retro on her; something from the 50s or 60s. If it were longer it might be a better look for her.
I think the hair looks pretty this time around, but it would definitely look great slicked back.

  • ccm800

    sheldon cooper in drag

  • I think the colour looks terrible on her. Also, I really dislike the dress  – It’s just generally silly and makes her boobs look sad.

  • Jessica Goldstein

Or maybe she’s got my stupid feet that simply can’t handle a heel over 3 inches any more. It’s irritating, but agonizing pain does get one’s attention. Totally agree on the hair: Slick it back!

    • sagecreek

Me, too, Jessica, don’t you hate that? There are just so many shoes that I can no longer wear. I’m glad I wore ’em when I was young!

  • You call this a modest heel?   I’ve got news for you, a large amount of women in the real world can barely stand two inches, let alone the 3.5 she has here.

    • No, we called this a “RELATIVELY modest heel,” and were quite clear that we were comparing it to the average red carpet heel.

We’ve got news for you, we never write about what women in the real world wear.

  • ThaliaMenninger

I think she looks fab, and (gasp!) I even like the hair. It’s reminds me of the gamine young 60s starlet, like Leslie Caron and Kim Novak and Natalie Wood.

  • Warmheartedgirl Seattle

Love the shoes!  Makeup, jewelry and clutch are good.  Not crazy about the dress, other than the color against her skin.

  • frankystein123

You have such a gorgeous face, why must you ruin it with such tragic hair? She should had chosen her character Erica’s (The Mentalist) slick ‘do instead.

  • TieDye64

Oh, honey. You’re so pretty so WTF are you doing?
