Miranda Kerr in Willow

Posted on August 30, 2012

It’s weird how, all summer long, the starlets went out in getups more appropriate for fall, and now that we’re winding down to the last week or so of summer, a whole bunch of them hit the red carpet in floaty whites. It’s like they all suddenly got a clue.

Miranda Kerr attends the David Jones AMEX Press Conference in Sydney, Australia in a Willow dress paired with a Miu Miu belt and Lanvin shoes.

Willow Angle Draped Dress. Miu Miu Boxcalf Leather Belt. Lanvin Pointed-Toe Asymmetric Leather Pumps.

Gotta say, this dress is gorgeous. True, it’s still not quite a summer dress, but it’s light and clean, with just enough design interest to bump it up to chic.We don’t normally love such complicated skirts, but we think she’s pulling it off. Love the belt and the shoes, although they’re fighting each other a little bit with nothing but a blank canvas as a backdrop. This might have been a time to either pursue matchy (that’s right) in the accessories or to go for a pop of color in one of them.

In fairness, it’s the start of spring now in Australia (so maybe it’s a winter white?).

She looks fabulous either way though.

      • http://kittysdrawings.com Esz

Yepuh I was gonna say the same thing – Its fresh low to mid 20s (Celsius) in Sydders this week so the dress is very weather appropriate :-D

        • patticake1601

Sydders?  I’ve never heard it called that before in my life….and I was born there.

          • http://kittysdrawings.com Esz

Hehee ;-) Its my crappy ‘ironic’ slang. Sydders like ‘preggers’ – deliberately bogan :-D

            • patticake1601

I was beginning to think that I’ve been away from Oz for too long.  Bogan is another word we never used…unless referring to a moth.  LOL!!   BTW, I left in ’98 and haven’t been back since…but will be returning for good in few more months.

            • http://twitter.com/foodycatAlicia foodycatAlicia

The moths are bogongs, not bogans. Bogan started to be used instead of westie in about the early 2000s, as far as I remember (I’ve never said Sydders but I’ve certainly heard it said).

            • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1550881905 Hildegerd Haugen

The bogans is what we in the old world call “white trash”?

            • http://twitter.com/pointlesswords jayme

It is, yes. Chav in England, Trailer trash or White Trash (or ten thousand other variations) in the U.S., Naco in Mexican slang! Aren’t you glad you asked?

            • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1550881905 Hildegerd Haugen

Well, ok to have certain slang clear, but to dehumanize people who try to cope with their low socio economic surroundings is not my thing.

            • http://twitter.com/pointlesswords jayme

Ha ha are you serious? What other word would you use to describe Lara Bingle (Australia’s very own Kim Kardashian!) And the Cashed-up Bogan is an entirely new social class, you really have been away too long!

        • http://twitter.com/pennyeager Penny Eager

It is getting a little bit warm in Melbs too, hooray! If she were wearing it here it’d have to be the black one though :)

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=698491952 Jessica Falconer

Yep, was still Winter in Aus (spring today!)

    • Alyson Epstein

that looks like a bed sheet

    • Elaine Lang

      Hate the hemline.   HATE IT.
~with a flourish, takes pair of shears and snips off annoying corner~

    • librarygrrl64

Love the dress and belt, the shoe is fine (if uninspired), but the lip color is a distraction.

      • kimmeister

Yes, the lip color is so orangey!

        • librarygrrl64

I don’t mind the color, but the shade is way too intense for me. Too neon.

    • lehen

      ew i hate those shoes

    • mjude

      not loving the hemline

    • Sobaika

Shoes are wrong, but overall it’s a cute look.

    • Imasewsure

The belt seems to ruin the line of the dress which is pretty. Shoes are putty-ish without being putty which is a good sign… make up seems kind of harsh but she looks very pretty… kind of a Cathy Cambridge look though, isn’t it???

    • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

I love the whole thing. I can’t decide if I want to sell a kidney for the dress or the shoes or both.

      • Amy Ellinger

you could kidney and part of your liver- it regenerates.

And agreed, love love it. I want to be her friend- she’s so damn pretty, and comes off as really accessible and sweet.

    • call_me_schmeg

my coworker saw this and declared from across the room, “it’s kinda unfair how frickin beautiful miranda kerr is!”

    • TheOriginalLulu

I hate the belt with this. To my eyes, they look like they belong with a pair of jeans, not with a pretty dress like this one.
      I like the shoes.

    • SewingSiren

Very pretty. Dress. Shoes. The belt is a little off. I can see why she wore it, to define her waist. The waist seam on the dress is too high, but I should think they could have sent her over a dress that fit better, instead of clobbering it with a heavyish belt.

    • IAmJ

What’s the point of wearing a dress with this type of neckline if you’re gonna cover it up with your hair anyway? This dress itself is beautiful, but the belt is kind of ugly.

    • MilaXX

Love the outfit, but I think someone with a few more curves might look better in it. Not someone extremely voluptuous, but someone with a little more hips and boobs. Her torso looks straight as an ironing board, and her hips look the same size as her waist.

    • afabulous50

The version on the model is much nicer.  The model’s shoes are killer!

    • halleygee

In the first pic it looks like she got her dinner napkin stuck in her belt.

    • http://twitter.com/MajorBedhead MajorBedhead

She has perfectly arched eyebrows. That’s my takeaway from this.

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_2CNDPMVO4W23R5TVC2QMTJ5BZE Heather

Though her eye makeup makes her look like she has crow’s feet, which she does not.

    • Trisha26

She looks lovely. But I dislike the hemline (eek – I’m agreeing with Michael Kors on the handkerchief hems!) and can someone explain those shoes to me? I don’t get that kind of platform.

    • Judy_J

The platform on those shoes looks like she stepped on something and it stuck to the sole of her shoe.  Odd.

      • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

I hate those type of platform shoes; they look so silly.

        • leftcoastpickle

          yeah, like a weird sub-floor!

      • kimmeister

“Oh, THAT’S where my coaster went!”

    • Orange Girl

Do lady stars dress in seasonally inappropriate clothing in order to get their pictures in magazines?  Like, in the September issues, there are tons of shots of stars wearing full-on fall apparel.  I always wondered how they ran so many photos of stars wrapped in scarves and blazers. They must be assembling September issues during the summer months.  Just a theory, I know nothing about the timeline of putting together an issue of a fashion magazine.

      • http://twitter.com/AilatanMyopic Ailatan

It’s winter beginning of spring here in the southern hemisphere… maybe that’s why it’s confusing to all of you.

    • http://www.lindamerrill.com Linda Merrill

Those shoes make it look like she stepped on a hockey puck and kept walking.

      • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

good thing she found one for the other shoe too.

      • http://profiles.google.com/ameliaheartsu Amelia Logan

I feel like shoes like that aren’t intended for well lit situations. I think if the floor and lighting were darker you wouldn’t notice the gap under her feet – thereby creating hidden platforms.

    • http://twitter.com/jenontheedge Jen on the Edge

To be fair to her, it’s late winter in Sydney. I was just down there and it was still chilly.

    • Call me Bee

Beautiful!  Really cute dress. The weird hem does not bother me too much–it would if it were longer. Then I’d wanna cut it off. I like that the belt and shoes are different tones of brown.
Gotta say, I love these (almost nude but more of a tan) pumps so much better than the silly-putty colored ones with the goofy platforms.  (Are we done with those now–I hope so…)  They are much more flattering to the leg.

ETA: OK I take that back–just noticed the stupid little platform on the bottom of the sole. Yep–stupid.

    • uprightcitizen

Very pretty, but I can’t wait until this trend of sticking a smaller platform to the bottom of the front part of the shoe goes away. It looks ridiculous, like an oddly tacked on scrap of wood was needed to make her a specific height, but we’re not supposed to see it or something. What is the point of that?

      • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

that IS annoying.  i hadn’t noticed it.  cute shoes otherwise.  it’s like they just had to do something odd to them.

      • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

I don’t mind it – it’s a more delicate form of a regular platform. If these shoes were a regular platform they’d be hideous. And without the platform, they’d be boring as hell.

      • ASK26

Yep at least with a regular platform you a bit more stability than with the smaller base

    • Lilak

A typically ‘David Jones’ sort of outfit . . . shrug.
But hey, she’s still a loyal rep for the brand (iconic even?), and knows how to respectfully color inside the DJ lines.

    • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

I’m ok with the shoes because it looks to me like the platform and the heel match the belt in color. Plus, they’re pretty damn fabulous shoes. And I like the dress.

    • Samantha Irene

Living in Sydney – I have to say that her outfit is perfect for the weather right now. It’s sunny and lovely, but still with a cold edge so the sleeves are perfect!

    • giiiirrrr

This is totally unfair, I just cannot with her.  I mean well-played and all that, but every time I look into her smug eyes I can see the back of her skull.  Plus, that Vogue September issue Terry Richardson spread (pun intended) with her naked in the high heel boots.  Ew.

    • buffythekid

This looks like a Cathy Cambridge outfit.

    • http://beaverstokangaroos.com/ Jenn

I am sitting here this morning in Melbourne and it is 5 degrees out and raining and I am thinking — wouldn’t she be freezing in that thing? Although it is warmer in Sydney. I think she is very, very pretty and I love that dress. But everyone here is still in wool sweaters and boots. Spring starts tomorrow!

    • http://twitter.com/ChezSonSon Sonia

So I guess after posting this you’ll realise what season we’re going into in the Southern Hemisphere. Take a further look and you’ll realise just how ahead of the curve Australian and NZ designers are.

    • CatherineRhodes

Love this dress, hate the shoes.

Why is it so hard for celebs to wear gorgeous shoes? Every time I go shopping, I find at least six pairs that I would die for (but can’t afford). So why would an actress with unlimited means ever defer to ugly pumps?

    • ASK26

Isn’t this pretty close to the skirt everyone hated a couple of weeks ago on PR (was it Christopher? Gunnar?)

    • mayavaly

Love. Feel like she’s channeling AngieJo here a little, no?

    • EEKstl

A red belt would have been gorgeous, but why quibble?  She looks terrific.

    • kikisayshi

She is cute as a button and this dress is fantastic. I just wish she wasn’t covering up the interesting neckline with the over-the-shoulder hair.

    • ChaquitaPhilly

Hate that droopy hem thing. It seems to be the thing to do now, but…it almost always looks like a mistake!

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_DJQMGJU7MZMBVLSD4GUTPJEPD4 murt

Love the lipstick she’s wearing too.
