Michelle Rodriguez in InStyle Russia Magazine

Posted on August 15, 2012

The theme of this editorial appears to be, “I’m Michelle Rodriguez, and this is my slammin’ torso.”

Michelle Rodriguez covers the September 2012 issue of InStyle Russia photographed by David Mandelberg.

And hey, go with that, Miche. It obviously works for you. She’s developed this style persona over the years that can only be described as Cher-like. Or maybe Cher-lite. Early on in her career, she appeared to hate the whole act of gussying herself up for the cameras, but somewhere along the line she got it in her head to have fun with it and to show off the goods as much as possible since they were helping to pay the bills. In other words, she’s very much of the old school style mantra, “If you’ve got it, flaunt it.” She looks amazing in that Yudashkin gown, even if it does look like it’s melting off her.

Look at Princess Puffysleeves’ clothes being used in an editorial!  I STILL love me some PPS.

      • mjude

so glad you mentioned that i had to go back & look!  love PPS.

      • Nelliebelle1197

That was my only thought on this!!

      • TieDye64

The model’s version is pretty bad, though.

    • Anathema_Device

Slammin’ Torso is a great band name.

      • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Damn, you beat me to it!!

      • Kristin McNamara

I think that last photo screams “I’m Michelle Rodriguez, and this is my slammin’ booty” quite a bit more than it screams  “I’m Michelle Rodriguez, and this is my slammin’ torso.” haha

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Lucía-Gavello/1253586868 Lucía Gavello

There’s actually an excellent funk band called Screaming Headless Torsos so you may be onto something here ;)

    • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Most of these clothes end up coming off as vulgar. Which in fact, some of them are. I’m looking’ at you, Mr Yudashkin.

      • http://twitter.com/TheRedZavodnik Ginger

My thoughts exactly.  I didn’t see anything that reads sexy in his clothing…just desperate.

        • call_me_schmeg

i think her vibe has always been, “i’m a badass sexy bitch. and what?” not for everyone, but the cher reference does make sense.

        • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Designers persist in creating these sheer over a nude body looks, which no one other than desperate to please starlets will wear.

        • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_3JSTXMWWVZN2QNP2UEKJMTWD7U Isabel

          Looks like
negligee from the 1960s – stealing from Mad Men!

    • AnnPopovic

I would SO jump a fence for her. Like an English hunting dog, I would jump fences for her.

      • snarkykitten

pretty sure she’s the one who made me jump the fence in the first place

      • joything

Yeah, “melting off of her”? Like, who wouldn’t?

    • mshesterp

Damn, she looks super fierce in almost all of these.  This is a more interesting editorial than I’ve seen in quite a while from our lady stars.   Love the pose in that last Yudashkin.

    • holdmewhileimnaked

i thought the yudashkin was the marchesa worn both inexplicably & badly by kristen stewart; either way, looks better here. in either picture [or both].

i really like the christian siriano.

also the iceberg jacket. odd, i dont often like iceberg. but it works on her.

what really gets me, & this for a reason i dont quite get is:
one love / keep it sexy!!!
i dunno, it just seems so silly.
but the pictures are very nice.

      • tereliz

I had to shake my head at the two quotes, as well. Very silly, indeed.

    • CatherineRhodes

The picture I like the least is the cover shot.

    • LaylaSV

It’s a nice editorial. But I’m more fascinated by MR’s extended Mediterranean vacation. How did a rough and tumble latina with an apparent temper problem, a rumored love of lady parts and two trips to jail end up as the favored guest of Europe’s uber wealthy. Is she the female version of Hasselhoff  – middling US appeal, inexplicably popular abroad? Who and what is she doing on all those yachts? How did she end up in Russian Vogue? And can she be the next bond villain already?

sidebar: (since nothing on the interduh actually does go without saying) obviously this is none of my business. Nor do I have any sort of expectation that tabloid photos ever reflect the truth of someone’s life. But I am intrigued by the fiction as it is portrayed.

      • joything

“interduh.” Must appropriate for personal use.

      • out for a walk

oooh next Bond villain YES PLEASE.

    • Sobaika

This editorial has me questioning my sexuality.

    • Rand Ortega

      The Bod. Is Bangin’.

    • PrunellaV

Michelle in the Valentino jumpsuit shows Kristen how it’s done. I think the belt improves the look, too.

    • http://twitter.com/cornekopia Shawn EH

The Yudashkin fits in with the sci-fi theme of her movie. She’s basically like “step off, Milla!” in this shoot!

      • tereliz

Oh. She’s in Resident Evil: We Just Had To Make Another One, right? Was wondering why she was popping up.

        • http://twitter.com/cornekopia Shawn EH

They can’t stop making them since 3D became a thing … but she died in the first, so it’s about time in her case!

    • mjude

i have always liked her, had no idea she could pull it off.

    • ringthing

What condemned building is the background here? There’s artsy warehouse, and then there’s almost crackhouse.

    • PinkLemon

What’s with the face? It’s almost completely hidden in all of these shots. So yes, torso indeed.

    • Judy_J

the theme seems to be  “X marks the spot”.

      • formerlyAnon

    • IMNAngryLiberal

If MY torso looked like HER torso, I would wear clothes like this EVERYWHERE — grocery shopping, walking the dogs, taking out the garbage, EVERYWHERE!

      • AthenaJ

I’d put on that Valentin Yudashkin and walk my dogs right along with you!

    • http://profiles.google.com/denise.alden Denise Alden

I know I’m going to get whacked for this, but god, I love the cigarette she’s holding in the Valentino.

    • Fordzo

The cigarette…how often are they used as props in American magazines?  Are they even allowed, or is it just advertising them that is verboten?

    • MilaXX

These are hot. I love the one of her smiling on the stool. She used to look like a butch chick in a dress. I guess she has grown more comfortable in her own skin, because now she manages to look cool and sexy more often than not.

      • greyhoundgirl

Oh, MilaXX:  Butch chicks can look VERY sexy!

        • formerlyAnon

But in my (admittedly limited by my overwhelmingly straight orientation) opinion*, they generally are not at their sexiest in a dress.

*Opinion heavily biased by my preference for that fashion middle ground where male and female attire overlaps and the hair styles, make-up, accessories & footwear become interchangeable.

        • MilaXX

yeah but butch chicks in frilly femme dresses almost always look awkward and uncomfortable. Here she looks smoldering, sexy and very comfortable in the clothes.

    • MightyMarshal

      Oh, the tanlines!

    • hughman

I’m sorry, I still can not wrap my senile little mind around the fact there is a thing called “InStyle Russia”.

      • AZU403

My reaction exactly. Oh what a difference 20 years of capitalism makes.

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/FEP56YB4DUIXBWSLIMSSSGQHWY jimmack

Looks good. Nice clothes. A winner at last.

    • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

I assume y’all meant the second Yudashkin gown, because the first Yudashkin gown doesn’t seem super flattering to me. But she looks great in every other picture, so good for her.

    • Tatiana Luján

She looks very Britney – like in some of the pictures. A brunette Britney.

    • formerlyAnon

Mostly clothes for new-money mobster’s girl friends and trophy wives who don’t care if they’re accepted by the Junior Leaguers at the country club.

She is darn pretty and looks great in them.

    • http://profiles.google.com/grubhooligan J. Owen Dickson

Um…  Yum.  I dislike the Yudashkin gown on the model, but on Rodriguez (especially in the cover photo) is is delicious.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jessica-TallGirl-Freeman/1043623567 Jessica TallGirl Freeman

Michele, keep dressing like a lady, it really suits you.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_WMOQB4BO2IT5V2OKPG6PXTOTVM yahoo-WMOQB4BO2IT5V2OKPG6PXTOTVM

love how she looks better than better than the models. I think the pictures scream “I’ll Michelle Rodrguez and I am a smokingly hot badass.”

    • theblondette

    • http://twitter.com/watchinginkdry Krysta

ZOMG I would totally hop the fence for Michelle here. DAYUM.

    • Susan Crawford

      In a word: zowie.

    • http://www.ellenciompi.com/ NurseEllen

Well, if you’ve got it, I guess it’s OK to flaunt it, although these styles are more unwearable than most.

Does the top in the 6th photo down remind anyone else of the dress that Demi Moore wore in “Indecent Proposal”?  (And PS, I would *still* take Redford over just about any other male star.)

    • Thathoodwink

She is one hot babe! Love her.

    • LesYeuxHiboux

She makes for a surprisingly good model. Her face looks incredible in the Valentino shot, and the Christian Siriano “Yee-ha!” is fun. Pure glamourpuss in the last shot, reminds me of a similar shot with Charlize Theron in a gold gown several years ago.

    • quiltrx

She’s quite a good model, especially considering the bad-ass bitch she portrays in films!

    • ccm800

the last pic is great – nothing especially Cher about MR to me – but okay.

    • http://profiles.google.com/sauchih Sau-Chih Feng

I love the smouldering look in the Valentino gown with the cigarette, even if it is going to give her lung cancer.

    • librarygrrl64

My eye scanned  “show off the goods” as “show off the gourds.” I think I’m really anxious for autumn.

    • TieDye64

Looking pretty damned good in every shot, except the cover.

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/NJ4PWRIWYNU43PS46HFCUM2YU4 Angie

how can i order this magazine with michelle R. to California USA ?

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1374951897 Katrina Wray

      Michelle is beautiful :)
